I have to preface this review with the fact we were one of only two familiies in the restaurant so, we really didn't need to wait for anything and the waitress/cooks weren't rushed. The service was what you'd expect for a small town diner. I ordered a bacon cheesburger. The bacon was the real kind, think and full of flavor, the hamburger itself was very flavorful. As it was a winter day we also ordered hot chocolate for the kids, which was a good quality hot chocolate, not the typical Nestle in a in a single server package. We also ordered a pizza which the toppings were good, sauce was good but the crust was of the pre-made or packaged kind. Prices were a bit on the high side but, also understandable for a small town and this one is a bit of a tourist town as well. All in all this place was good and I would go back if I was staying in the area and needed a place to eat.

What started out as a 2-egg, toast, bacon and coffee cheap breakfast ended on a $17.75 note. NEVER coming here again. charged us $5 for a SIDE of bacon. Didn't even remember the eggs. Then he charged us 1.50 more for our eggs than the menu said. What a rip-off.

This establishment is average at best, if folks who rate it high are not really worldly? This is a basic breakfast, lunch and dinner place, they have deserts. The winter service may be a bit down market compared to summer, when i was a kid i went here, but this review isn't about that experience. The Korner post has very little competition in Detroit, the decor is a nice antique theme. As for the menu, it is modest, nothing too fancy, they were out of a few things but it wasn't fatal. The service was quite attentive, one waitress was doing nearly everything the day I was in, again this is probably winter service. The menu was a bit over priced for what was being served, things tasted like the had a slight bit of freezer burn. The place has nice scenery and an unusually cold/unheated bathroom, slightly dirty/unkept. The restaurant is a bit crowded with booths and could use a bit of a reduction in cluttering, basically if your hungry and in Detroit this place probably is good enough. The vegetarian options are limited but not completely inhospitable.

In order to have a 4-star experience at Korner Post, one must first hike 11miles with heavy packs, and a minimum of 2.5 of these miles must be off-trail and densely wooded with low brush and fallen trees. Only then can one truly appreciate the beauty of a formerly frozen garden burger with a slice of kraft singles, and a side of deep (and I mean deep) fried onion rings. There were only 3 parties in the restaurant, but our server was very friendly and attentive. Prices are high-ish, but on par with CA prices, so wasn't too shocking for me. I'd return, after another day of burning well over my normal caloric expectations.

Quiet on a Tuesday night during prime tourist season. Food was decent but not spectacular (better than a chain like Denny's/Shari's, but not what a spoiled foodie is used to). Waitress forgot about us after delivering our food despite our being the only customers.

A really nice motorcycle ride from Portland is to run up the Clackamas River highway past Breitenbush to Detroit Lake, and grab a bite to eat in Detroit before heading home (via highway 22 and Silverton/Mollala/Molina/Liberal/Oregon City). Looking around us, we find ourselves in the city of Detroit Oregon, population 262, and way the heck and gone up in the mountains. We're talking road food here, no gourmet coffees or fine dining establishments. Two eateries in town, the one that's not a sports bar / biker magnet is Korner Post. Lunch menu consists of about 20 varieties of bacon cheeseburger, onion rings, fries, potato salad, soup, salad. Service varies from utilitarian to small town friendly. Locals eat here along with tourists. Breakfast until 11. Yes, it's nine bucks for a hamburger with sides and none of it is deluxe. It's just food to get you back on the road, and because it is clean and quiet, it's a good place to rest up before hitting the road again. And the food is harmless, which for a traveler is what you really need to know.

DO NOT EAT HERE! WORST food in the world! We stopped here last night to give me a break from cooking while camping this last week! We have not eaten out any other place in a week! My husband and I both have had diarrhea all day today since eating there OR attempting to last night! We ordered a hot dog for our 7 yr old granddaughter. It cost $6.00!! Her glass of milk was $2.00. We ordered the cod fish & chips. $14.00 ( only thing that looked remotely good) so because waitress said the pieces were big, we decided to split the dinner. It came with a side salad. The lettuce was pink and scumy, the fish was FISHY tasting to the point we could not eat it. The waitress said the cook said it was fresh! YA RIGHT! We know fish and this was NOT fresh. The waitress took off the $14.00 from our bill. The resturant was musty and greasy and dirty- just like in the past 30 yrs. Nothing has changed. It was the ONLY place open for dinner last night. We will NEVER step foot in this place again even if we were starving! Overpriced dirty grease that will make you sick the next day!

Preface: We came into the Korner Post as a 2 top looking for breakfast near the cut off time for the preparation/service of said breakfast. It seemed to be a fairly slow time of day in the restaurant, only about 4 tables in service, most of which seemed to already have their food, this was amazing since it was memorial day weekend in a popular lakeside tourist town. Before being seated we asked if said breakfast would still be served, the response was; "yes, breakfast is still being served, go ahead and sit anywhere and I'll be right with you" Body: Fifteen minutes(yes fifteen) after sitting we were finally addressed at the table, no questions answered, no water service, and certainly no coffee, we must have brought the menus with us as we sat because I do not remember those being given to us. In the meantime, the cut off time for breakfast service had come and gone, and we had watched the only server(remember this is a holiday weekend) attend to the other tables near us, with coffee, water, orders and food(amazing that such things can be offered to you in a restaurant). When the server did finally find the time to get our order, I was (pleasantly)surprised that she let us order off the breakfast menu, but we should have known better. 10 minutes after our order we did get our water and our coffee.... And a full 45 minutes after that we finally had our food in front of us. Being a tourist town I don't expect economy pricing, but I do expect the quality of the food to be on par with that for which I am paying. This expected congruency was not found, the portions were meager, and my palate was nowhere near satisfied. The menu offers typical diner fair, and we ordered nothing that was out of the ordinary, french toast combo plate with a side of hashbrowns, no substitutions. The bread was thick cut, but had no seasoning other than the egg batter it was dipped in, a little cinnamon would be nice, even the syrup was flavorless, I'm not a syrup connoisseur, but Mrs. Butterworth's would have run to the hills if presented with this stuff. The hash browns were OK, but really not much for the price paid. The only thing decent on the plate was the bacon, but it's not hard to mess up salty fatty goodness. The service is its own story.... To use an analogy here, if poor service were sea level, the service at this place is Marianas trench. After seating ourselves, watching others receive attention from the server, and spending more time waiting than sipping on the aged folgers brew, the one saving grace that could have earned this place another star would have been a hint of recognition from the lone server(who only had a maximum of 4 tables the whole time we were there). I realize there are many factors that could have contributed to this horrible experience, it can be difficult to work a restaurant floor by yourself, especially on a holiday weekend, and perhaps it was a very busy morning that we just happened to miss. We did technically order breakfast after the cut off time, but a 45 minute wait with no check-ins by the server is completely inordinate. When it comes down to it, we are this restaurants livelihood... If they want us, the tourists, to come back and pay their exorbitant food prices, and write a favorable yelp review, they had better treat us well. Conclusion: Basically, to receive a meal of such low standards, with the high price, poor service, and ridiculously long wait was a hard hit. While we were waiting for our food we literally watched people arrive at the restaurant across the street, order their food, eat, and leave before we had our plates in front of us. The Korner Post management should look a little deeper into the training of their wait staff, or if they choose to leave service at the same level, at least think about scheduling a few more people on a holiday weekend to cater to the guests of their establishment. Bottom line: If you like a wait, sub-par diner style food, folgers coffee, folksy memorabilia, service without a smile... Or if you just like to take a gamble with your dining experience, the Korner Post is the place for you in Detroit, OR.

We went up above Detroit Lake last weekend for our first time, for the seasons first snow. On the way up we decided to stop in for some lunch before we got bogged down in the snow. We stopped at Korner Post for a quick bite to eat. We couldn't get out of there fast enough. We expected to prices to be a little high considering that we were in a mountain town and they have to make a living. But we were expecting better food for our money. I ordered a bowl of clam chowder as did my 14 year old son. My 11 year old son ordered a hot dog and fries. My wife had a cup of clam chowder. And we had a side of corn bread for our soups. When ordering, we asked about the clam chowder. She seemed pretty proud in answering that they make it there. So we were really looking forward to getting our soups, being clam chowder freaks and all. My son was first to get his food, the hot dog and fries. The hot dog was of the Oscar Mayer variety and just plain frozen fries. Bummer. When you pay six bucks for a dog, you at least expect a real hotdog. Or better fries. Something. Then along came our chowder. First, it had a beige-yellowish tint to it, not white. And super thick. So much so that it really wasn't a chowder, but like a condensed soup out of a can. Huge chunks of potatoes in it. That's a good thing, but hard to handle when the soup is thick like pudding. The biggest issue that we had with it, among quite a few, is that there didn't really seem to be any clams in their clam chowder. It was more like potato chowder. In fact it didn't really even TASTE like chowder. More like potato soup. My son didn't finish his soup and so I ate it (might as well, I paid for it). But I wasn't happy with it. We told him we'd get him something else at the store across the street (terrible service, but another review). We almost felt as though we were a captive audience in this town, but there was a restaurant across the street that we wish we had tried instead. Live and learn. We'll go there next time. I know we won't be going back to the Korner Post though. When paying for food, we know we don't want bad chowder and packaged goods from the grocery store. We want real restaurant food. If you stop by this place, just know that you're not going to be getting the best food around. Not the worst, by far. But not the best. The inside of the restaurant is charming enough. We didn't see our server but for the time that she took our order and dropped our food off. So service was definitely as bad as it gets. I would rather a bad server come by and make an attempt to serve us, than staying away at all. We were one of only two tables in there being used, so I know it's not the crowd that kept her away. Must be the fact that we only ordered waters. What can I say, we were thirsty and water quinches thirst better than soda.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS RESTAURANT IF YOU VALUE YOUR HEALTH. We stopped in for lunch on our way to Portland. The service was slow, only one bathroom worked. I ordered a simple burger and later suffered with nausea/vomiting/ lower gastric upset. From the reviews it looks like other patrons suffered the same results from a meal at this establishment. PASS IT BY...
