Diabetics at Village Inn

Village Inn is a tough place for diabetics, and you must be extra cautious while ordering food at the Village Inn, especially if you're a diabetic. The food items low in sodium are high in sugar or cholesterol at Village Inn which makes it difficult for diabetics to choose the right food at the diner.

Foods to Avoid at Village Inn for Diabetics

Village Inn offers very few items edible for diabetics without any threat. You can avoid sandwiches and burgers at Village Inn and try the light breakfast items on the menu. You must also skip the shakes as well as other juices from the beverage menu. Almost all the dinner items on the menu are high in sodium except Grilled Tilapia and 6 oz. Top Sirloin & Toast. Avoid Soup bowls and opt for cups instead at Village Inn.

I am not much of a breakfast eater, mainly due to the fact almost every diner style restaurant I've been in is dirty and the food is marginal at best. The Village Inn has great food, awesome service and you can't beat the prices on the VIB breakfast. The chocolate peanut pie is amazing too!

Great food and great service. We were promptly seated and the waitress continued to ask if we needed anything. Not annoying but perfectly done. Always love coming here.

I go here to get my favorite breakfast item. It is a hidden item that is no longer on the menu, but I am still able to order it. It is the Mexican skillet. The skillet comes with taco seasoned beef, onions, peppers, french fry potatoes, and eggs with a side cup of salsa, and sour cream. You can also get toast, or pancakes with it. I love how they bring you a thermos of Coffee so you never are left waiting to refill your cup of coffee. You can refill it yourself whenever you want. The restaurant is recently remodeled, and looks very clean, and inviting. I just don't understand why every restaurant these days think they have to have TV's now. I understand TV's at sport bars, but that is it. The only thing that bugs me is that as soon as you finish a plate they are right there taking it away. It makes me feel like I am being rushed out of there.

Easily the best "chain" breakfast place in the area. The owner runs a tight ship, food is ALWAYS good, very consistent which is all I'm looking for in a place like this. Their french toast is especially good. Highly recommend.

The Village Inn doesn't look like much from the outside but it kicks butt over Shari's in my opinion. I love the V.I.B. breakfast where one can choose from 4-7 different items starting at $7.99. I love the single strawberry crepe, the egg white and mozarella omelette and the choice of bacon, sausage or both. And my boys love the DumDum lollipops at checkout. The service is good and there's generally no wait to seat and plenty of parking.

Tried this establishment for the first time today and don't plan on returning. This place reminded me of a Shari's because of the variety of food. They serve breakfast, lunch, dinner and a huge selection of pies. You can order anything off the menu at any time during the day or night. The food was decent. I ordered the strawberry banana cream french toast with a side of sausage. My husband ordered the Eggs Benedict and a side of french toast (2 slices). When we got the bill, we were shocked. They charged us $5.90 for 2 slices of french toast & $3.25 for 2 small turkey sausage links. You can buy a whole loaf of french toast bread for $3-4.00.That is ridiculous expensive. Who does that??? It was a rip off and not to mention there food wasn't that great. There were no prices on side items anywhere listed in the menu or perhaps I didn't see it. It wasn't all that good per the other reviews about this place. I rather go to IHOP over this place. The service was decent but wasn't too impressed. I'm definitely not going to return. Despite the experience, the newly remodel establishment had some great colors and decorations.

This was a great spot on the westside to take my 15 year old son. If you don't have one or haven't been one, 15 year old sons require a lot of fuel. If you're trying to feed one a weekend breakfast, you want a place that has big portions for him and satisfying food for me too. The only two things that really mattered here beyond feeding the boy were - wait for it - the coffee and the bacon. But there was a third perk I wasn't really anticipating. I'll get to that. The coffee - typical family-restaurant (read: Shari's, Denny's, Applebees) fare, with a pot of it at your table. Not awful, not great. Highly accessible. The bacon - WAS REALLY GOOD! I wasn't expecting a lot from this type of family-style restaurant. Usually value-food equals wimpy bacon. But this bacon was THICK and CHEWY and CRISPY. Not at all wimpy or limp-noodley cheap bacon. It was damn good. I am now hungry for bacon. The sausage was also good. I feel like I'm neglecting my love of sausage in my reviews. Perhaps a new challenge...? Oh. The Third Perk...the service! The service was excellent!! The waitperson was cheerful without being annoying, and friendly without being cheesy or not knowing her audience. She was genuine and engaging, and you could tell she knew all of her regulars. I'll go back for the bacon and for the foodfest that was my 15 year old's breakfast.

Today's visit to Village Inn with my girlfriend and 2 other friends was disappointing to say the least. It was all going rather well, but the service was awful. There was 1 offer of a refill, right at the end of our visit, after all of our plates were cleared away and we were ready to leave. I had the Southwest Benedict Potato Pancakes, which was slop on a plate. I also ordered a side of hash browns, which came out with a weird aftertaste, almost like dish soap. I sent them back, and was told that since they were on my check already, that a fresh batch would be made. Everyone else was on dessert, and I would have liked pie instead, and the hash browns taken off my check, but RUTH told me that she'd already put in an order for a second batch, and so I was given no choice. Admittedly the second batch was nice, but it took 15 minutes to come out and everyone else had finished their pies, and by then we really just wanted to leave. I feel like it is inappropriate to demand that a customer gets what they order, even after they have to send it back. I can only imagine that if the second batch had tasted weird, I would have been subjected to a third plate, or told that it was simply my taste buds and that I would be charged anyway. In addition, my girlfriend's Banana Creme Pie tasted like the whipped cream had expired; very stale and flat. Banana Creme is her favorite, but we didn't want to send it back, after the hash brown fiasco. I loved this restaurant before they remodeled and this is the second time I've been in the last month. I don't know that I'll be coming back anytime soon.

They have good coffee, and decent pancakes. I think overall, I like them better than IHOP. But, being a chain, there's not a whole awful lot more to say about it than that. Decent place for a quick breakfast.

My family really enjoyed our visit here. I appreciated the bright, graphic decor as a designer. Our breakfasts were really tasty for diner fare. And the bacon was exceptionally crispy.

I really enjoy this quiet Restaurant. The food is good and consistant the parking is ample and the people are fun to chat with. It is hardly ever busy so I don't mind taking my kiddos. I get the Heritage breakfast with regular pancakes. This gives me extra crisp hashbrowns, scrambled eggs, a thick slice of ham, bacon, Sausage and of course pancakes. I slice up the ham and mix it with eggs and hasbrowns add ketchup and voila! Perfect Breakfast any time of day. The pancakes taste home made and melt nicely in your mouth with the right amount of butter on them. The syrup is served warm and I am begining to get hungry. Well guess I'm headed back to village inn. See you there.

This is a great place if you are in the mood for breakfast anytime or if you just happened to have too much fun the night before and need some hashbrowns and strong coffee. We've been here a couple times and the service is always great, the biscuits are always nice and fluffy, and the hashbrowns are always crispy and good. If you're in the area and want some breakfast stop by the Village Inn.

Our favorite weekend breakfast place. Looks sketchy on the outside, but I love the interior. We've never had to wait on a seat, even mid morning on the weekends. Service is very friendly, food is fast, and the restaurant is very well run and clean.

Retro 70s feel and absolutely spotless. Very clean, with fresh interior, fixtures and paint. The food was light and healthy versions of classic and contemporary comfort foods. Loved to options and was easily able to relax in the calm atmosphere. Great spot to come to eat and have a chat with friends in a low pressure relaxed restaurant. Friendly knowledgable staff with great service and a tasty meal. Bonus was kids eat free with paying adult.

I thought I had given Village Inn in Beaverton a 4. I didn't. I had given them a 3. The service was still good and, this time, the apparent owners were on hand to greet and seat people. I ordered the meat loaf again and, being a Wednesday, they featured the free slice of pie (or slight up-charge for the pie of your choice). The meat loaf was a little drier than the last time, the cup of soup was small although the soup, corn chowder, was good but I'd recommend the included salad instead, and the side order of beans was just plain cold. I returned it. They were returned warm (from a new pot or nuked?) That shouldn't happen. I should have just asked for an altogether different side dish. As for the pie, I opted for the currently featured white chocolate key lime pie. It was fine. If going for their slight up-charge pies, I'd recommend opting for their reliable chocolate peanut butter or French Silk pies. In summer, there is typically a pie called Hawaiian "something" - it has strawberries, pineapple, whipped cream, coconut, and it's pretty damn good. That one is also worth ordering when it is featured. This more recent trip to Village Inn in Beaverton was more "meh" than previous ones but, overall, it's still holding at 3 stars.

I had a chance to visit Village Inn recently whilst waiting for some service to be completed on my car nearly directly across B-H highway. It was certainly... fine. Basic, no-frills breakfast here (can't speak for lunch/dinner). Clean, quiet and pleasant, for sure. This was, admittedly, during the middle of the week, so that undoubtedly influenced my experience. Service was friendly and efficient. The interior was clean and... nondescript. -1 star for not being Pine State Biscuits (hah!) -1 star because I feel like it

This is like a cooler Denny's. This is good, the food is greasy and delicious. I had an omelet, a bacon something omelet. It was good, not spectacular, but what you'd expect from a diner type place. The hashbrowns were also good, buttery, greasy, and crunchy. I like that they seat you right away. I went on a Sunday and it was full, but not completely. Though, one waitress looked at me like she wanted to eat me, I may go back solo.

6/15, time for an update: We had family breakfast at Village Inn this morning and based on my last review I was pretty skeptical. They seem to have toned down the Romper Room colors and are now a bit more neutral and inviting. The service was FANTASTIC, our Waiter was on it the entire time. I think the thing hubby and I enjoyed most was the fact their portion sizes are not outrageous so we did not leave feeling stuffed. The pancakes are the size of a coaster, not a plate and most everything else is a little scaled down compared to most breakfast places. To be honest we used to eat there every weekend with friends about 20 years ago and the very same owner was there today, and even the same Waitress, seems we have all aged, HA! They did not have my old "usual" Ham and Cheese Skillet on the menu any longer but the Waiter remembered it and they made one up for me, "memories", it tasted exactly the same and was frankly quite delicious. Hubsters ordered and Omelette with multi-grain pancakes and he was very pleased. The Omelette came with Hollandaise Sauce (he ordered it on the side) and it was quite good, has the nice lemony zing I love. I would certainly go back for breakfast!

Yes this place is a chain. It may turn some people off, despite all chains started out as "mom and pop" restaurants, but this is one of the few that are actually good. The food is diner style but stepped up a notch The inside decor is decked out in a modern-retro style. By that I mean, it has a 1970s style but with modern finishes including a TV that plays the news. It appeared they only had one and it was on mute with closed captioning. For breakfast, they have this "build your own" meal for $8.89. Just as it says, it allows you to choose from different items listed. I had the two eggs, country potatoes, bacon and an orange creme crepe and a carmel ice coffee. I do wish the country potatoes came with onion and bell peppers. They have other "standard meals" but why limit yourself on what they want you to have? get what you want. I Went back for dinner that day and had their turkey dinner. Yes, folks, they serve turkey dinner all year. It was a refreshing change from the same old burgers or a cheep steak. I figured what the heck. There's nothing wrong with having a turkey dinner in the middle of April. You got the turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing and cranberry sauce plus a homemade biscuit. I had their blueberry pomegranate limeade with it. It was around $11-$12 for the meal but it was filling and wasn;t that bad either. It looked like they used red potatoes for the mashed, but I could be mistaken. Both times, staff were friendly and we were seated promptly. Over all, if you are hungry and want something other then fast food give village inn a try.

There aren't many diner-like places- this fits the bill. Even though it's a chain, this franchise seems family run. The owner knows us, and always accommodates our child. The servers are uniformly kind. I recommend their breakfast food above all- it's solid. Also, if you haven't been here in a while, they renovated the place- and it looks cool! We are there 2 or 3 times per month. For the life of me, I don't get the negative comments. This is what it is. It's not Veritable Quandary or Le Pigeon.

Friendly and fast service. The tomato basil soup was delicious, but a little too creamy for my taste. The southwest salad was OK; it had horrible presentation and was difficult to eat. The components of the salad (aka the chicken, tomatoes, onions, etc) were cut up in too big of chunks to be able to have good table manners while eating. As a consequence I felt like it didn't have much flavor. It looks like the reviews for the breakfast items are good, so I might come back for that instead.

Two words: never again. We used to eat here every weekend with friends but the last few times have been nothing but letdowns. It's a convenient place for us to meet and the menu is broad so we kept giving it a chance to get better, but it never did so we're giving up. We ate there Sunday and decided it would be our last time. Up until then there has been a steady decline in the quality of the food. Don't get me wrong, it's Village Inn so our expectations were always in check, but you expect your food to be served hot and served in a reasonable amount of time. Many times we waited 30 minutes or more for cold food. Iced tea should have you know, ICE in it. When they had crepes on special I ordered them and they were made with powdered eggs, which was absolutely disgusting. The only thing that has never let me down are the pancakes, but anything with their version of "meat" in it was always a dice-roll and generally left us feeling slightly ill afterwards. Sunday I ordered the "Denver Skillet" with was advertised as being "smothered in queso cheese" sauce. The picture in the menu showed what looked to be queso cheese sauce. I love me some queso! But what did I get on mine? Neon yellow fake "cheese" sauce with nothing whatsoever in it. Queso has salsa or browned, seasoned ground beef or pork in it (or all of the above). This had nothing, it was the same goop that you squirt on your nachos at 7-11 only with NO FLAVOR, no spice, nothing. Someone needs to educate their chef about what queso is, because that wasn't it. I ate half and pushed the plate away, completely grossed out. My partner's burger was underdone and the other couple that ate with us was served cold food, so we'll be finding another place to eat after this. Sorry, Village Inn. Train your kitchen in proper food handling techniques and train your chefs up a bit and we might try it again. Until then, we're moving our business somewhere else.

We had not been to the local Village Inn in over two years....stopped in...only two tables....great...quiet dinner. BUT...the huge TV screens...YUCK....when did Village Inn become a sports bar?? So....the hostess was sweeping a far section of the restaurant when we walked in...she looked up...saw us....continued sweeping. When she came over, she asked "two" and started to walk us to a table. No..."hello...how are you this evening" or "welcome to Village Inn"....after she picks up the menus, she looks at her watch as if we were a major inconvenience. We told her never mind....we'll go somewhere else where they can be polite. If this is the person they have running your restaurant, no wonder there were only two tables.

    (1)
  • Leah A.

We parked right outside the front window where the hostess can see us. She's already glaring at us before we come in. After walking in she just mumbled follow me. Didn't say "hi" "Welcome" or ask how many people are in our party. She walked us to our table and threw our menus down then walked away. Our waitress was really nice, except she was there only until we got our food. I guess her shift ended so the hostess took her spot. She never came over to check up on us or gave us refills on our drinks. After we put our forks down she comes over and takes our plates. We went up to the counter to pay handed the hostess, now our waitress the money and left. She didn't say a word to us. Food was.... Unappealing. I had the country sausage crepes. Inside the crepe, was this brown, monocolored mush. Every bite I had was the same texture, bland and tasteless. The only good thing that was good was their hash browns, perfectly cooked. Every piece was crunchy. Maybe because it was so thin. Don't think I will be coming back.

Back for the second visit two days ago. We had to get another pie, the peanut butter cup pie, which is sinful and evil, both. I'm not a candy-pie person, all these new Snickers and Oreo Cream and all that. This did not say any major name, just is a fantastic pie. You have to try it to believe it. Make sure the whipped cream on top is not old. Our second pie was a bit dry from age, but it was still superb. Breakfast the second try: I asked about their Hollandaise sauce, was it real? If you follow my reviews you know I care deeply about this subject, having a bad name for the packaged stuff which I won't share with my fans. But I asked! They said it was real. If that is real hollandaise sauce, I'll wash their dishes for free for an entire night. I mean with butter and egg yolk, nothing else but lemon! Maybe a pinch of cayenne! Geez I think there was chicken broth in that blend. omg. Still, despite my pet peeve with the sauce, the staff here is so professional, we were very late on a weekend, and the place was packed. Still they seated us away from all the noise (we are obviously seniors) and we had a second delicious breakfast. I'll just avoid that hollandaise and eat more of the pies. Man, that pie was so effing good. Two pies in two days. You know that was a good pie.

My parents are 80 years old and they love places like Elmer's and Denny's so this did not disappoint. I had the half grilled cheese sandwich with a Caesar salad. The salad was not good at all but the sandwich as A-OK. My parents were happy because they had a senior menu and my Dad loves potato soup, which is what he had. My Mom had breakfast and loved it.

We'd passed this place countless times, meaning to go in and try it already but something just screamed "don't go in there" about it. Probably just the Original Pancake House-loyalist voices in my head. Well, I'm sorry it took us so long. The VIB (Village Inn Breakfast) let's you choose any four items from a pretty comprehensive list of breakfast goodness for a very reasonable price. Because of that (and the fact that we share), we had an eight-dish breakfast sampler that pretty much kicked ass. Cheese omelet, pancakes (buttermilk or multigrain), hash browns, fresh fruit, waffle-- all very good. Cinnamon apples-- no, booooo, stay away. Well, unless you're into apple pie filling. What have you. Coffee was weak but expected at these chain places. They leave the carafe so you can self-medicate at will. The service was efficient and friendly, and despite walking in behind two other parties, we were seated within a couple minutes. Barely got our coats off, and water appeared with the server assistant. And the server really did come back when we didn't know what we wanted on the first go-round. Amazing. All-in-all, we were very pleased with our experience here. We'll definitely be back.

I've been looking for a place that will make me hashbrowns like Waffle House (no Waffle Houses in Oregon). Village Inn gave me that! I can put whatever I want in or on top of them and the waitress doesn't look at me weird. The French toast is awesome, made with thick slices of what resembles Texas toast. You have to specifically ask for powdered sugar on them, though. I just wish it was a tad bit less expensive. $6+ for 2 thick slices of French toast is a bit much, but it's the best around so I'll gladly pay. The decor is an older vibe of Denny's, but it's a plus when you walk in and all you see is mostly senior citizens; they know their breakfast places!

It is our secret place we go to when we are tired and want breakfast for dinner. The food is diner grub. We get great service because we are polite and tip well. They recently remodel... Nice and clean... Wednesday night is free pie night .. I know it's a gimmick, but it is one that I like.

You know, I like The Village Inn and here's why. 1) Every dang time we have a party (we live in Beaverton) and guests sleep over, they wake up wanting to go to some fancy breakfast place... usually somewhere in SE or NE Portland. They have lots of arguments for this... "Oh, here, I clipped this review from Willamette Week..." or "I saw that place on the Travel Channel" or "My friend Bianca lives over there and loves it... " or "They offer free coffee while you wait..." Blah, blah... We always get sucked in to going and this is generally what transpires: We get stuck in traffic, ALWAYS. It takes for freakin' ever to get there. Then when we do get there, parking is always a big problem. So it takes at least an hour or more to get to the place. Then, we arrive, and have to wade through a mob to get to the generally aloof and self-important hostess to put our name on the absurdly long list. The free coffee? Generally issues there too... out of cups, no coffee condiments, or some mob in front of the coffee station making no effort to allow access by anyone else. Then we wait... and wait... and wait... and wait... Sometimes watching people who arrived after us go in before us... and wait... And when we finally get in the food is fine. Just fine. Good even. But we're so worn out from the getting there, eating 2 hours later than when we all decided we were hungry, that it doesn't seem worth it. If we had just gone to The Village Inn, we'd already be full of good food and home napping by now. 2) The Village Inn's breakfasts are good. Solid, old-school, good. Everytime we go. No there is no Salmon Brie free-range-eggs Florentine or organic Brioche French Toast. Sorry. But there are a nice array of quality conventional breakfasts that never fail to taste great and arrive in a timely manner. The service is prompt and friendly, we are seated right away, and we're in and out and home within an hour. 3) And this might be just me, but I can get a meal that includes eggs (in a variety of forms), bacon, hashbrowns AND pancakes. I HATE going to restaurants where I can't get pancakes with my meal... or the meal comes with pancakes but no hashbrowns... and I feel like a total pig ordering a side to go with my already gluttonous breakfast meal. I can get all the variety I want in a meal in one entree. I LOVE THIS. So... If you live in or around Beaverton, and you or your hungover friends think you all need to drive to PDX for a good breakfast--DON'T DO IT. Instead, head right over to the Village Inn, park in their spacious lot, get seated right away and have some good old-school breakfast from a friendly server who doesn't have a stick up her butt. She might have 30 more years on her and 30 fewer tattoos on her than the PDX servers... but that's OK. Tip her well. Then go home and nap.
