When I think of Astoria, I think of a quirky, old and exhausted Victorian town that had its heyday many moons ago and now stands on its own as a funky place. This is what you get when you visit Grandview B & B. Funky, old, and in those two things - charm. Sharlene is someone who has lived a nice long life and probably has many stories to tell. She is usually the woman who greets you when you arrive. Be patient, as it takes her a bit to get to the front door. Also, if you come down to the lobby area after you have checked in and try to talk to Sharlene, make sure she can see who you are. I watched a few times as guests came down the stairs to call out to her about a question and she can't move her neck as easily to know who she is talking to. :) Be kind and patient with this wonderful lady. We stayed in the Treetops Room which has a balcony where you can look out over the river and see the old Flavel home. And you can even spy the Goonies house in the far off distance. Breakfast is served at 7:30, 8:30 or 9:30 and you get to choose which one works best for you. Bagels, smoked salmon and chocolate muffins! YUM! The sweet chef was wonderfully sweet and we felt very special eating in the closed off room. If you want 1000 thread count sheets or modern amenities, this is not where you will find them. Come for the experience and the charm of staying in a very old house. I love this place and am making this a yearly traditional stop on our way to Cannon Beach.

My daughters and I had a really nice time at Grandview. It's a large Victorian style home with a spectacular view of the water, all of the rooms we saw were brightly decorated, clean and comfortable. The service was great and enjoying a very nice breakfast while looking out over the Columbia was very memorable. Some things to keep in mind the house is over a hundred years old so yes, not everything is going to be perfect. It's a b&b, you're there for the experience, charm and personal touch.

This was an amaaaazingly grand find! All major chains were booked solid so we first checked into one of the $80 rooms on Marine Dr. to find it had no AC!! We opened the windows only to be blown away with traffic and bridge construction noise. We immediately asked for a refund and started calling lodging options away from Marine Dr. and lucked into an available room at Grandview! Our room, called "Cloud Nine" came with a lovely view of the Astoria-Megler Bridge and Columbia River sunset! And in the morning, we sat in the private breakfast nook in a turret with a gorgeous view of the river!! Breakfast included fresh fruit, juice, coffee, salmon and cream cheese on a cheddar bagel, and chocolate muffins. Staying at the Grandview was a highlight of our trip, a wonderful surprise find!! Please note that this review was written in July 2013. I just got around to posting it a year later!!

We enjoyed our stay at Grandview. Not only beautiful, classic B&B at an affordable price, but clean, comfortable, and gorgeous views. The breakfast was by far the highlight, fresh fruit, toasted cheesy bagels with cream cheese and local smoked salmon! Only slight downside was the windows in the bedroom were painted shut, so it was hard to get a cross breeze. But this probably isn't an issue most of the time as we stayed in one of the hottest weeks in July.

Not for me. The place is in need of repairs...and updating. No air conditioning so the rooms are hot and the place has that smell of visiting your grandmother who never opens a window in her house. The wifi...you can't connect to it because the speed is less than a mega byte. For me, really creepy visit.

It was a random gorgeous Saturday morning when we woke up in February 2010, one of those rare, beautiful, actually warm days in the middle of winter. On a whim we decided to go to the coast for the day/night. Having done the Seaside / Canon Beach thing to death (great cities, but a little stale), we did a quick perusal of beach towns within a reasonable drive of Portland and settled on Astoria. Although not "technically" a coastal town, as it sits on a hillside overlooking the mouth of the Columbia River, it's still nevertheless only a 20 minute drive to Fort Stevens State Park and its nice beaches. My wife and I are big fans of older houses so the Grandview easily fit the bill of a decent looking place to stay. I called around noon and asked for their cheapest room (~$50). The elderly woman on the other end immediately asked me if I chose that room because it was the cheapest. "Actually, yeah," I remarked a little sheepishly. She then offered us any room in the place at that price. Score one for traveling in the off season! We ended up reserving "The Treetops." The description from the website: "Spacious room with spectacular view from balcony overlooking the Columbia River and grove," did not disappoint. The room was decent enough, painted white, old fashioned furniture, and with a few paintings/photographs of the above mentioned "treetop" theme. The kicker was the absolutely breathtaking view from the private balcony, located on the uppermost floor. Sunlight bouncing off the water. Boats and barges leisurely floating by. The Astoria Bridge in the distance. And not one, but two churches probably built in the 1800s within blocks. As we left for dinner, the elderly woman gave us the key lock combination to let ourselves in when we returned, which wasn't until after midnight and a thorough study of the various eateries and bars Astoria has to offer. Breakfast in the morning was a simple affair. No selection on what was served, but we aren't picky eaters anyhow. I know you're supposed to get "bed" AND "breakfast," but really, who doesn't stay somewhere for the bed part of the deal 95% of the time? Options included: oatmeal, orange juice, coffee, fresh fruit, bagels with lox and capers. I know that I ate my fair share. Plus for the price we paid, any morning food is a treat. I can't say that I would of enjoyed eating with random strangers, so I'm glad we were the only ones staying there. Overall, recommended.

Day of Memorial Day we wanted to get out of Seattle and drive aimlessly. We ended up driving south, all the way to historical Astoria, Oregon. The town iteslf is so whimsical, quaint, and full of sleepy old buildings and victorian homes. We arrived to an almost rain free destination early in the afternoon. Since we didn't plan this trip, we were hoping to find a place that had a vacancy so last minute, and that also accepted children. I started to look up some lodging options on the trusty iphone while cruising through. While searching for a Bed & Breakfast that accepted children/babies, we stumbled upon Grandview Bed & Breakfast. There we met Charleen, the owner, as she so warmly welcomed us in, and invited us to look around her beautiful victorian establishment. The view is spectacular, the hospitality is top notch, the rooms are cozy, and the breakfast is yummy. I woke the next morning to the smell of brewing coffee and baking chocolate muffins. She generously offered us 7 different flavors of cocoa available anytime of the day. If we ever go back to Astoria, we will definately stay here again! This place is walking distance to downtown shops, restaurants and museums as well. Oh, and did I mention reasonably priced? Much more charm than your average hotel room. See pics!

This B&B is wonderful and the owner is really funny. We felt like special guests and the service was wounderful. on our second night there we were the only guest because she forgot to take down the no vacancy sign. Because of this we were able to see all the other rooms. our favorites are treetop, gazebo and the secret garden ( we stayed in this room)' The breakfast is very yummy and there is a tea and hot coco bar. My husband and i will defintally miss this wonderful home away from home. Astoria is a jewel.

I stayed here in March, rain rain rain, but the Grandview is a huge spot of sunshine in my opinion and the owner is a delight. I felt that I was a special guest, she is that warm to her visitors. My sister and I stayed on the top floor and had a spectacular view of the area, oh my, the sunset was spectacular. Our room was warm and comfortable and we loved having breakfast in the turret, fresh fruit, warm bagels and smoked salmon to die for, just the sort of breakfast I love. This was a few days of getaway from the stresses of our usual life and we picked the perfect spot to decompress...Astoria and particularly this B&B are at the top of my list of places to visit again. Thank you thank you Charlene.

Comfortable bed but no iron or hair dryer. Do not try to get a cup of coffee in the morning before your allotted time though, you will be chased off - with no coffee!
