I used to love this place. They had the best chicken salad in Norman, and could usually be counted on for decent service and quality food. What the hell happened?? We stopped in a few nights ago, looking forward to our old favorites. We were surprised when it took them half an hour to make our food in spite of there being no other customers in the restaurant. Things got worse when our order arrived. I ordered the CAB (chicken-avacado-bacon), easy on the sprouts. What I got was chicken, no avacado, no bacon, heavy on the sprouts, and with so much Russian dressing that my fingers went right through the bread when I tried to pick it up. My husband and daughter each ordered chicken salad on white. Instead of chicken salad, the sandwiches held small chunks of tough (grilled?) chicken covered in black pepper and...nothing else. There was no mayo mixed with the chicken, no mayo or dressing of any kind on the bread, no celery or onion or anything. Just chunks of peppered chicken and a slice of Swiss cheese on dry bread. Was the chef high or did he/she just really, really not give a sh*t? Unfortunately, we had ordered all this to-go and didn't discover all the errors until we got home. Yes, we should have checked to make sure everything was kosher before we left with the food, but honestly the place had never given us a reason to worry before. We considered taking everything back, but it had taken so long to get our food in the first place that we just gave up at that point. .

On a rainy Friday night, the BF and I decided to go out on a bar crawl. I was the DD, so the boo had a beer on tap, forgot which one. They were only 2 bucks- score! Bison Witches was our second stop! I think the place is real cozy with a divvy feel. Dive bars are my fav! I didn't have a drink, but I noticed one of the workers bought food from The Garage. I really REALLY want to try their sandwiches which were highly recommended by my co-workers.

I love Bison Witches for trivia night on Tuesdays! The crowd is pretty chill, the grilled cheese is a staple, and they are known for their Irish Trashcans - and I highly recommend the IT! We usually have really good service there, but that is partially because we have been going there every Tuesday for a couple of years now. Friends also have the tortilla chicken salad every Tuesday - so it must be good!

I've been going here for over ten years, best soups in town. The bread bowls are excellent.

Like Pepe's, Bison Witches is one of my old school, go-to Norman eateries. I've been eating here since before I could legally drink (let's just say that's a long while) and the food still satisfies. Let me say that for me, Bison Witches is a deli, not a bar - so my review is from that point of view. They have an incredibly-reasonably priced special that includes 1/2 a sandwich, a bread-bowl soup and a bag of chips. I always get the Veggie sandwich on wheat, with the Portobello harvest grain soup and spicy (which equates to Ms. Vickey's jalapeño) chips. DELICIOUS!! While the inside could definitely use some "sprucing up", the food is still spot-on - If you're looking for convenient eats before a show at Opolis, Bison Witches is the place to hit up.

GREAT sandwiches and soup bowls! Truly a Norman staple. There are too many good sandwich choices to list. Not my favorite place to hang out at night, pretty fratty for my taste. BUT a wonderful place for lunch or a relaxed Sunday lunch and drinks. Ps...try the chili cheese nachos.

Waitress was a bit odd and sort of standoffish. It was my first time here and I told her that. She didn't have any recommendations and seemed to rush my decision. But- the food was sensational! I am super picky about sandwhiches. I ordered the half club on a croissant along with broccoli cheddar soup and pasta salad. A very good value. I am impressed and will go back. I'll make sure to avoid this place on Game day though! Looks like a major college hangout!

The great thing about this place is the food, though the consistency varies.they are always good. The fairly recent price increase has notched this little haven into another category that is a poor fit. New tabletops coming!!! Get real, the business card adds paying for tabletops are just such an out- dated deal. The booths are hideous and have needed replaced 10 years ago. The bathrooms are nasty and smell and overall Money needs to be spent refreshing the whole place. The beer selection is average yet pricing outside of happy hour is a little high when you factor in they are not real cold when delivered. This small college chain has somehow forgotten Norman and needs to refresh the place. Service varies depend ant on time visit and wait staff so I rate it average. I like BW and am hoping that the owners will quit milking this fantastic opportunity of putting BW over the top. What it really needs is total and I mean total refreshing, better or repaired coolers for the beer and slight changes to improve consistency of the food. Waitstaff are always on point but need some urging to put some giddy-up in their service. I have been to one other BW. location located in Lincoln, Nebraska which has a cleaner environment and fills all the boxes that the Norman location misses. So a word to the management/ owners of the chain: get your act together and bring the Norman location up to par cause your teetering on the edge of loosing a fantastic money making opportunity as well as the chance of keeping an icon going.

great variety of sandwiches. have great combo deals, half sandwich, soup, and bag of chips. who doesn't love being able to get a beer with their sandwich? The decor is dar and simple. nothing to extravagant. Its a homely little place, thats why you'll love it. The broc cheddah soup is amazing.

OMG. This place is so great. The Grilled PB&J and B.L.T are sooooo yummy. I have to make a stop here everytime I am in Norman. Bison Witches made it hard to be satisfied with anyother lame, boring, toasted sandwich. I just really wish there was one in Austin...

Okay, the sandwiches are amazing, and the soup comes in a bread bowl. While I love a bread bowl, it is a lot of bread when you get the soup and sandwich. Besides fantastic food, this place has a very local feel, and if you are an old lady like myself, I avoid it at night because it is very college kids, crowded and loud. But some people dig that. The service is not so hot. Our waitress had little knowledge of the menu, did not seem to know what beer they had, and made us feel more like serving us was an inconvenience. She spent much more time chatting with co-workers then refilling our empty drinks. If terrible service does not distract you from good sandwiches than I recommend it. I don't come here if I am in a hurry, because the staff is not.

Okay, the sandwiches are divine, and the soup comes in a bread bowl. All you complainers just need to ponder that sentence. The sandwiches. Are divine. The soup. Comes in a bread bowl. Ponder, ye Okies. Okay...so...on top of fantastic food, this place has a very local feel, which was just what a tourist like myself wanted. Wheeee!! The OU game was on, and although it was too early for the bar crowd, the dinner crowd still erupted in cheers if OU made a good play. That was fun. Our waitress was admittedly somewhat slack about service (she was eating her own dinner in another booth with some guy), but we weren't in a rush, so whatever. Chill, ye Okies.

bisonwitches= buy some sandwiches... get it? that is what we used to say when we were in college...lol a good variety of sandwiches to choose from... try the combo deal: 1/2 sandwich, bread bowl soups, and chips.. moved back to oklahoma so went back here...it has been years since my last visit and i have been craving their bread bowl soups and sandwiches...tasted the same....noticed you have a choice now in bread (even wraps) for your sandwich and more variety of chips. gets very crowded and loud...more of a college scene avoid the evenings unless you want to drink...but for food..come during lunch time... earlier to avoid the crowd.. wish they had a second location ..that is bigger and more kid friendly because i love their sandwich & bread bowl meal!

There's a lot to both love and hate about this place. First, the positive. The sandwiches are pretty awesome and they have enough variety to satisfy several tastes. Also, life is better when soups, even side-soups, are in bread bowls. Finally, the beer selection is surprisingly good. Now, the bad. The service is unbelievably pathetic. In every instance, our waitress had no knowledge of the menu, did not know what beers they had (and could not find a drink menu), and generally made us feel more like an inconvenience than a customer. She spent much more time chatting with her sorority friends than checking on customers. If terrible service is not enough to distract you from above average sandwiches than this is a place to try.

went to high school in Norman. went to lunch there as a student. Every time I am back in town, I try to make it back there for a veggie sandwich on wheat and jalapeno chips. portion sizes are huge, so come hungry or get a box. Perfect lunch place, but also has a nice bar scene at night too.

This is the bro-iest of bro bars in downtown Norman, and it's too be avoided at night, at almost all costs (unless you plan to order a quick well drink and get the hell out). Food-wise, however, I am totally into it. For the past few years, I've tried several items on the menu, mostly back in college, when this was where you could get dollar Boulevard Wheat drafts, and I thought Boulevard Wheat was a really solid beer. Now, I'm a grown-ass woman, and I get the same thing every time (half soup / half sandwich -- portabella harvest grain / green turkey on wheat, with jalapeno chips), and the quality from visit to visit hasn't varied at all. The service is meh, the atmosphere is meh (jukebox is WAY too loud and somehow plays Weezer every single time I'm there), but the food is cheap and worth sitting through the rest.

The pony-tailed bearded guy behind the bar has got to go. Rude/attitude. He made it seem like they were doing me a huge favor by feeding me, even though I arrived 10 minutes before the kitchen closed (which, BTW, is 10 pm, not the 2 am listed here on Yelp - that is how late they serve drinks). What happened to service with a smile and going the extra mile for the customer? Also odd that they do not have milk. I'm not sure how they cook without it, but there is no chance for you to drink anything healthy - they have only alcohol and soda to drink. I guess you can't get coffee or a White Russian here either. My ruben sandwich was not good (meat was flabby, bread was not griddled adequately). For a place that prides itself on being a deli (although an oddly-named one at that), I expected way more. If you want FAR better sandwiches, served until midnight, a better bar, and service that really does come with a smile, please do yourself a favor and skip this place and drive one mile south down Classen Blvd. and eat at The Mont. Oh, yeah, and the Mont also has that exotic drink - 'milk.' I'll never return to Bison Witches.

Yummy sandwiches! Bread bowl soups! Hooray! Be sure to look at the reviews as a "bar" - I just go for the grub during the early afternoon...

Great sandwiches and great beer specials. I love the deli/bar combo too. I recommend the soup (broccoli cheese) and half a sandwich. Soup comes in an amazing bowl. The bread is fantastic so you won't mind that there's extra! Waitstaff is made up of mostly sorority girls. They're going to be nonchalant and uninterested, but they usually won't screw things up.

These sandwiches are awesome. Warm with gooey ingredients, on texas toast (if they made texas toast in rye!). If you're really hungry, go for the half sandwich and soup. It's a totally unreasonable amount of food: the half is like a whole, and the soup comes with a breadbowl. Plus, a superflous bag of chips! The atmosphere is chill, and there are always places to sit. Also great for a beer with friends. Downtown Norman is looking great, but even before it looked great, Bisonwitches was great. : )

First the good, the soup was amazing. Tasty, flavorful and in a bread bowl. You can't go wrong with that. Sandwich, after the amazingly flavorful soup, this was bland and rather non tasty. They should have their sandwiches match their soups in flavor. The service is not the best. Forgetful (had to remind her a few times about drinks or salad dressing or anything else we ordered). Not going back. I can get better service somewhere else.

Bison Witches, what the hell happened to you? I used to love you, love your beer specials and your food. The last FOUR times I have visited you, I have been treated horribly. Why? And it's not just me. Several people I know have commented on how terrible the service has become. First, what is your deal with the jukebox? Every time someone puts on an 'urban' artist, you turn it down or turn it off. The first time you said it was because of lyrics and there were children present. (It was En Vogue and the child was a baby) the next couple of times, you tell me it's because you want to rotate music. Only when I asked for a refund did you put the music that I PAID for back on. Second, SERVICE! I'm not sure but it seems like every customer is invisible to you. Are you all visually impaired? I have seen numerous people get up and leave after no service. I have literally flagged down a bartender just to get a beer. I had to almost grab a waitress to get my tab. A bartender told me you don't carry a vodka that is clearly on your shelf. Third, the last and FINAL time I came here, the bartender put a $60 SIXTY dollar hold on my card and everyone's card I was with. Instead of just keeping the card, the bartender put a hold on it that lasted for 6 days since you neglected to clear your machines. I really like your food and your drinks but you need to do something about the service. It's gotten to the ridiculous point. You used to have great bartenders, now you just have douche-nozzle, racist jerk offs and lazy service.

yup, i love it too. sandwiches are great, just question the tired little bag of chips you get with them... (for the price...) AND! the have sierra nevada on tap! now, where else you gonna find that? think i might just go there tomorrow... 1 star off for the price. maybe i'm cheap, but i don't think it adds up.

As a bar, yes, Bison Witches is fun and has cheap beer. But I have to admit, I don't go there for the beer. I go there for the sandwhiches and soups. OMG their food is so damn good. When you have company in town, this is one place you need to take them for lunch--it is only in 4 towns in America--so I consider it kind of a "Norman" hole-in-the wall, special place. All of their sandwhiches are good. My favorite sandwhich: Shelly's Special--turkey with cream cheese, sprouts, avocado, and mayo on a croissant. Runner up: The Family--thinly sliced pastrami is combined with thinly sliced corned beef, topped with melting Swiss cheese, and a spread of Dijon mustard and house (really good) honey mustard. Downside: Service is not-so-great on gameday.

Awesome sandwiches and great beer specials. Theres something about their mayo which makes it delicious. I've only tried a few sandwiches on the menu so far but they have all been great and huge. The half a sandwich and soup combo is a good size too. The soup I got came in this giant bread bowl which made it even tastier.

One of the best kept "secrets" in Norman. anytime any friends or family come into town, we take them to Bison Witches. Great drink specials!

My favorite sand and soup combo. My friends know i NEVER come to norman but when i do i eat here everytime. I don't know something about the sandwiches here are just spectacular. They have daily beer specials which are mostly pretty decent ones and i think that is pretty cool. It is not as yuppie as most of the campus corner places, as it is a little farther away from the campus.

I'm currently going back through and reviewing places I used to frequent growing up in Norman, OK, and this is one of them! Bison Witches is a nice sandwich shop & bar that's located in downtown on Main. Apparently they have other locations in other states, but this is the only one in OK. Anyway, if you go, I highly recommend the grilled PBJ. I've tried making my own version, but don't put as much pb or jelly in it as they do so it's never as good. Everything else I've tried there (that I can't remember as well) was always good too. This is a great place for lunch or dinner! The service was always quick enough that my friends & I could make it over during an hour lunch break from school and still have plenty of time to get back and search for parking the lot. (:

Last time we went to Bison-witches, my boyfriend said that the sink in the men's room was broken, but the toilet was still in use. He spoke with the manager about it and he said that the sink broke on Saturday he knew and was going to have a friend fix it. It was already Tuesday. Needless to say we were a little grossed out at the idea of the cooks using the restrooms and not having a place to wash their hands.

What a bar, what a bar... another college favorite of mine. Bison Witches was really happening on the weekends, and quite enough during the week to... study! hahaha, yea! They had a awesome happy hour... (which they still do, last time I went back to visit family)... 75 cent draft beers... yes, that's right, 75 cents! Good ones too. Great little college town bar, and I had so much fun there!

This is in my top 5 worst bars in Oklahoma. Long story short... my first time here was Norman Music Festival, and within 45 minutes, I saw 2 people throw drinks on other people for absolutely no reason other than being far too drunk. This was on top of a guy being so rude to a bartender she left. It's a bar of frat guys and sorority girls, that clearly have no clue what their limit is, and are too rude to be allowed in public. Although they have bouncers, they cram so many people into this small bar that the bouncers can't even keep an eye out. I'll never return, and I will avoid Norman at all costs just due to this bar. Steer clear.

Love the vibe of this place. Reminds me of a relaxed joint you'd hit up after a day of skiing in Summit County. Most everything I've had has been delicious, but nothing beats the potato soup. Even if it's a blazing 100 degree Oklahoma day, I'm still gonna get the potato soup - it's just that good. Make sure you try this place out at lunch time, as the half / half special is a steal for the quality and price. My only knock is the cookie - a place that can crank out food this good can surely serve up something better than a pre-packaged Grandma's Cookie. Side note: the iron artwork on the wall is pretty slick, and to be honest, slight trippy.

The half sandwich and soup is the way to go if you're not a fatty. There are plenty of diverse savory choices in a slightly heavier way than Cafe Plaid (which is my personal preference). The service is okay but twice now I've inquired about the beer or daily special and the servers didn't know. That's completely unsat.

I love this place. Best queso in town next to the Mont! Their sandwich and soup combo is a great deal and it tastes fantastic! Getting harder to make excuses for these guys. Waitress didn't greet us because she was too busy sitting at the bar visiting. Didn't see us come in. So we sat and waited. Loud drunks at the bar. Again. 720pm on a Sunday. Hollering, being annoying. We just tries to avoid their attention. What does the bartender do? Serves them another round of shots. We were wanting to get out of there ASAP. So we got our food quickly. It was tasty, but not even as good as a month or so ago. And them I found about an eight inch hair in the potato salad side, which was a dollar up charge. Unfortunately, I found it in my mouth. I would have said something to a manager, but there was no one who appeared to be a manager. This place is in disrepair. It has no standards apparently. Very little in the way of staffing. No proper protocol for drunks. I am about to stop coming. Been coming for over a decade....but I just can't handle the yelling 40yo drunks, no management, no desire to be good. Oh, and hair. Don't prefer hair.

As a first time customer I found this place, as a hang out spot was, not for me. I am not use to bars and pubs, which this is. It was very loud inside with loud music and there was a loud mic going on with a dj who was asking trivia questions to the customers (college kids) inside. I read reviews on how good their sandwiches and soup was and that was the reason why I went there. After wandering around where I was to order for take out, because I didn't want to sit down and eat, I went up to order and got my sandwich and soup within 8 mins. The sandwich was AMAZING! I got my soup which was more of a chowder consistency. Over all the food was pretty good but the overall scene just wasn't for me so I give this place a solid 3 stars

Last time I was here (before today) was when I was an undergrad attending the university of Oklahoma which was 5-7 years ago. The taste has not changed at all which was a relief!! They have couple of options here. There's obviously the whole sandwich with a side or you have do half soup half salad. Half soup half sandwich and I'm not sure but I'm sure you can do half sandwich half salad too. I got the miss priss or something. It had white turkey, alfalfa sprouts, tomatos, lettuce and they homemade honey mustard. So the honey mustard isn't as sweet as most places. Here is a bit more mustard like and it added an interesting taste with each bite. Some may need to get used to it. For my half soup ( no such think as a half soup I think since it looked like a full amount) I got the creamy potato and bacon soup. All of their soup (I think) comes in their own bread bowl (white bread) which is a nice touch. I would come back but I live by the will Rogers airport and I just came to show an underclass man places to eat in Norman but excellent place to eat lunch and it's all less than 10$!

I've given this place a try twice. Both times the service was awful. Young girls who think they're way too good for everyone. Very rude. FIrst time I got a sandwich and soup. Both were okay, nothing great. Second time I got a salad and sandwich. Sandwich was flavourless. Salad was warm because it had been left under the heat lamp for so long. Lettuce was warm and wilted. Both times I felt extremely unwelcome and the food wasn't very good. Won't be going back.

This was awesome! We have a Sooner Senior and a Freshman and drove from Maryland and this was perfect for the end of the trip. We had 3 of the half sandwich and bread bowl soup combos. Great deal. Great food. Great service. Had Beef and Brie, the Slamwich, the Pistola, and the Sooner sandwiches and broccoli cheddar, portobello harvest grain, and potato and bacon bread bowl soups. We kept eating off each other's plates because each one was better than the other!!

yup, i love it too. sandwiches are great, just question the tired little bag of chips you get with them... (for the price...) AND! the have sierra nevada on tap! now, where else you gonna find that? think i might just go there tomorrow... 1 star off for the price. maybe i'm cheap, but i don't think it adds up.

Great place to visit for lunch or in the evening if you're wanting a late snack and some drinks! Reasonable prices and good choices! Fun on the weekends and great drink deals! I might be a little biased since I did the chalkboard art work above the door years ago :)

We've been going here for years. It's always a great sandwich, and the salads are huge. The booths are a little worn, but for lunch, it's perfect. Not too crowded, quick, good soups. That bread!
