I along with 3 people people came for the sushi buffet. The restaurant was half full which should mean service should be decently quick. We were soo wrong. 1 hour 20 mins after our 1st order we were served warm nigiri and sushi that fell apart once you picked it up. We asked the waiter why it took so long and he said they were 'busy'. They had served the non-buffet eaters first and ours was made last. One guy even sat at the bar, 5 minutes later got his sushi before we had ours. I don't know if this is typical but no other sushi restaurant in Texas or Asia serves in this backwards system. When specifically asking if sashimi was included, we got a clear yes. We had a diabetic person who can't eat alot of rice. Evidently these non-Japanese people equated sashimi with nigiri because all the fish came with a warm rice ball. Will I be fooled into eating sushi in Oklahoma again? I think not. Well then again, I remember legit sushi is made by Japanese and not college-age Chinese international students.. Thank God for Tokyo on Western. Never being adventurous again.

I went here for All you can eat sushi for $20 then I found out that it only includes basic rolls Like California roll, tuna roll.. Basically the same deal you d get at a Chinese buffet. So I decided to get a hot meal n couple specialty rolls. The sushi was served with hot rice n was falling apart, I ordered spider roll which usually comes w crab meat but they used imitation crab meat and none of the 3 rolls I ordered met my low expectations. I ordered hibachi meal for $17, it was ok but was not worth $17 n didn't look like a $17 plate (cheap plastic plate with stuff on it, just like the plate u d get at Chinese express at a food court) and there was no show. The service was great, friendly stuff n things came out on time but quality of food is at the low end. I went there because some friends recommended it but now that I think about it, those friends might not have been to a real sushi place before or to a decent japanese/Asian restaurant :). I don't recommend it if you are real sushi lover.

Being from a place that has authentic, fresh, delicious sushi, we weren't expecting much from a sushi place that was in the middle of the country. However, we were pleasantly surprised. Either we've been in the Midwest too long or the sushi was surprisingly pretty good. We ordered the all you can eat special for $26 a person. Do I think our plate of sushi was worth it? Not really. But sushi anywhere isn't really cheap. The service was on the slow side and you had to ask specifically for the all you can eat menu, it's not advertised. I'm not sure if we'll be back or not. Maybe if we need a fix again.

So... I don't know what to say other than... I'm kind of in love w/ this place. The food is pretty dang good and the prices are even pretty dang better! Basic rolls are generously priced and special rolls are very fairly priced. Portions are good and the food comes out quick! I enjoyed the $4, 6pc Boston rolls, $3.75 4pc crab rangoon and a $6 22oz 6%abv Sapporro! Very reasonably priced, good portions & very yummy! My husband got the $13 special which came with two full size rolls and a piece of nigiri. He's a big dude and he was full by the end. *Thumbs up* Total bill was $29 for two meals and a shared beer. *LOVE* Locations is awesome. The decor is kinda old-ish and out dated... but... everything seems very authentic! Can't wait to come back to try the hibachi!

It's all about your hibachi chef at Sumo! Leon is a 5 star! His steak is perfect medium rare and his food never lacks flavor. Show is entertaining and beer is always cold. Other hibachi chefs are 3 stars and food tends to be over cooked but we still like Sumo for the fried rice and ginger dressing. I read other reviews about sushi gone bad but we haven't had any issues with sushi apps. It's either crowded beyond belief or plenty of room for walk-ins so call ahead and check the wait times! Good spot for a fun date night and mingling with other locals! Friendly Okie's at their best!!

Sumo is okay. We have had a few group events here, even a birthday party once or twice, and the service has been ok, if not a little slow, and the hibachi masters have been pretty masterful and prepared the grilled items nicely and in an entertaining manner. They're no Benihanas, but they're pretty good. The sushi was not good. Not good at all. Poorly executed. Poor quality. Nope, nope, nope. I do like the general ambience inside, and the seating options are nice.

I had such a great experience here at lunch time. Our waitress seated us at the table where you sit on the floor in the chair with no legs. I came here with a friend and we both had a TON of homework to do, so our plan was to eat sushi and study. The waitress was more than accommodating and left us alone to study, but checking in here and there to refill drinks, or bring another roll. The restaurant was very clean, and the sushi tasted great. I will definitely be back!

Meh. This is my second visit, and I'm just, not impressed. The hibachi is okay - the chicken and steak was good, but the rest was just mediocre. On my first visit, the sushi was okay, but not great. Service and food delivery was VERY slow (even though I came at an off hour when there were not many other patrons). The other Yelpers are right - the location and exterior of the building are a little odd, and the inside is mediocre. I think there are much better places in Edmond and OKC for sushi and hibachi.

This is such a wonderful lunch spot! Not only do they have sushi for a great price, but they also serve you salad and miso soup with your meal! I was overwhelmed with how much food was served to me and it was so affordable!

The thing that attracted me to this restaurant is the "All you can eat sushi." I was highly disappointed by their service. It took about 2 hours before I was full from the sushi. This is because of the slow service bringing out the sushi. You fill out a small sheet of paper and list what kind and how many sushi you want and then they bring it out. Of course you'll be afraid to order a lot since you don't know if you can finish it. So I started out with a few and that took long as heck for them to bring out. So the 2nd time I ordered more. Their policy is $.50 for a piece of sushi that you don't finish, which is bogus in my opinion. That's just horrible. For a tip, don't order too much of their nasty fried rolls. It isn't nasty when you're hungry, but when you're full you won't even be able to take a bite. The restaurant had 2 TV's running and they're the old school TV. Come on, its 2014! Get some new TV's in here. They were showing some show from TRU TV if you're familiar with this channel. I'm not sure what show it is but there was a foot that got impaled with a nail and there was blood everywhere!!! This is not the kind of stuff that I want to see when I'm eating at a restaurant. They later changed the channel to some reality show. I'm pretty sure I won't return to this place anytime soon. For the all you can eat sushi, it cost me about $28.

Why 4 stars? Because this was standardly solid hibachi fare. --- --- --- I feel like reviewing any hibachi restaurant in the country is like reviewing McDonald's. They are all exactly the same... which isn't necessarily a bad thing. The fried rice always goes down like water. The scallops are always best-case scenario. The chef always does at least 7 of the same 10 tricks. Those same tricks are always equally mildly entertaining. The server is always incredibly slow to bring drink refills. And most importantly, you always wake up the next day feeling like you ate an entire farm of garlic. That being said, I love hibachi once or twice a year!

All I can say is I was once the recipient of food poisoning after eating sushi here. According to my sources, you don't want to walk into a sushi restaurant and it smell super fishy. Super fishy = not fresh. Wish I had known that before getting so sick with food poisoning that I was dizzy while laying down. :(

Best quality sushi and the best price in Oklahoma City and Edmond hands down. Seriously. The outside looks isn't super fancy but it's what's on the inside that counts right... From my experience at the sushi bar, service is prompt, waitstaff and sushi chefs are really friendly (especially Ming who's a super cool dude), and the sushi is fresh. Soup AND salad are included with a sushi order, unlike other places around town who charge extra. And then when it's all said and done and the meal is over, the total on the tab won't empty your wallet. Recommend: Haefer Park roll and Hot Lip roll I can't go to any other sushi bar in the OKC metro after eating here.

I ate here with my dad in '11 and with the nuclear family on Christmas night. Loved it. Consistently good food, and entertaining, highly skilled hibachi chefs. The sushi was decent, if not quite spicy enough of a tuna roll. (Forgivable because I am used to Texas-style o.t.t. heat.) The tradition continues even today for birthday and Christmas because the consistent and high quality!

  • Mayra R.

The service was pretty slow to start off. They weren't that busy either. The rice in the sushi was either not cooked properly or was old because it was kind of hard. I ordered the sushi regular and it was not very good. It came with miso soup and it was cold when I got it. The only thing I really like was the salad!

I've never been to Sumo for the Hibachi experience, but I'm sure it's exquisite. I've always gone for the sushi, and it's consistently been good. I can't say that I've ever had a bad experience here. Being an Indian, I tend to get the cheapest thing there is. Luckily, this happens to be one of the many lunch specials. Soup, salad, and two rolls (from a preselected list) keeps the stomach full for quite some time. This might also be because I'm terrible at using chopsticks and it takes me ten minutes to get anything to my mouth in one piece (I refuse to use a fork like some uncultured swine). The icing on top of the cake is the 20% student discount. I've never been to another restaurant and had two rolls for $7. It's quite a steal. The fried ice cream is delicious as well. Go on your birthday, and you'll get one for free. Just make sure that you go with someone that understands that paying for your own birthday meal is one of the saddest experiences one could live through. Even fried ice cream can't cheer you up after that. P.S. Don't try to eat the entire ball of wasabi. People tend to look at you like you're an idiot.

Whether you are coming in for the hibachi or for the sushi you won't be disappointed with your dining experience at Sumo. The wait staff is friendly and food is delicious (particularly the sushi). The only negative comment I could say about the restaurant really is only with the staff and on one simple preference. I realize I'm in America, Land of the Fast Food, but I always feel very rushed when eating there. Other than that, everything is awesome!

Nothing special about this place! But if you like cheap sushi that's poorly made, then this is your place to dine.

The food is Soso here. In fact. It is a Chinese run the restaant. So you can know what the taste it will be. Fake

Sumo has the best hibachi I've seen in Oklahoma. The food is absolutely delicious, the chefs very enthusiastic, and the sushi bar has some real good points too. First, the hibachi. The chefs put on a real show, and they obviously are enjoying themselves as much as everyone else. I've never walked away anything less than pleased. Every friend I've brought in has said the same. The sushi bar is great as well. It's not so much the regular sushi that is the draw as the long list of specialty rolls. It may be less traditional and more local flavor, but I've yet to find anyone in my circles who hasn't enjoyed it. The only problem I have is that the sake menu feels a little bit thin if I want anything other than hot Gekkeikan.

Always a great time and always fabulous food! Our most recent hibachi grill expert was superb! His mad jokes and sick skills impressed us and our children. We Will be back!

Fantastic food. The hibachi is always good and a fun show. I always get the steak and it has been seasoned to perfection, never too salty which is a problem with other places. I have tried a small selection of their sushi and it was very good too, but I am no sushi conneseur. The staff has always been very friendly and goofy with the kids, which they love. One of our favorite places for the family.

I would say I'm a Hibachi connoisseur. I've tried most of the OKC hibachi places as well as many in other large cities. The location and exterior of the building is a little odd, but quite nice inside, if that kind of thing matters to you. I'm only referring to the hibachi side, I've never spent any time in the other half which is basically sushi and non-live preparation of hibachi favorites. I've had some very good Filet Steak here, but the last time I went it was possibly the most tender Filet I've ever had. The cook is a young man, probably 22 years old who has been working their for at least seven or eight years. I believe his family owns the place, because when he first cooked for us, he would have been about 14 years old. I've also enjoyed their chicken, their shrimp and vegetables. My wife had their salmon last time and thought it was spectacular. It's also moderately priced for the quality. Several other hibachi places that have better locations or interior decor cost quite a bit more, but the food is inferior. This is my pick for the best hibachi in the OKC area.

Y'all. If you're a fan of sushi then I don't even have to go there. BUT I AM GOING TO GO THERE BECAUSE I'M THE PEOPLE'S YELPER. IMHO, best sushi in the Edmond city limits. Granted, I may have a slight emotional attachment to this place. I've been going here since I was a sophomore in college and discovered my love of sushi. And to be honest, I get the same thing every time. Summer Roll & Leon Roll. You'll thank me later. No but seriously. Sumo's may be in one of the oldest buildings in Edmond, and they may have some sketch sheds in the back, and they may be where I attended my first Acacia date party in 2007, but that doesn't matter when it comes to that fresh-rice-and-fish-deliciousness. With your rolls (that are slightly expensive, but if you're a UCO student you get 20% off), you get a small salad with some kind of dressing I haven't identified yet, and you also get miso soup. Then comes your sushi, and then comes satisfaction. Side story - one time my roommate and I went to get dinner and a drink (we both had class later that evening) and then just sat there and kept ordering sushi and drinks until we had skipped class and drank like, 25 Mai Tais. Ah, college. I've only been to the hibachi side a couple of times, but it's always been pretty standard. Hibachi's not my favorite, so the real star for me here is the sushi. It's consistent, tasty, and always fresh. All and all, this is my go-to sushi place in Edmond. It should be yours too.

One of the better sushi places in the metro. They have an all you can eat option (you have to ask for the menu) which is nice. The service from the sushi bar is spotty though.

Fun place to go for an occasional night out. Kids have a blast with "the show". Haven't tried the sushi as I'm always a little concerned about where one gets "fresh" seafood in Oklahoma.

My wife and I ate at Sumo with another couple. We have previously only eaten at Tokyo in OKC so we decided to branch out. We elected to do the all you can eat sushi for $20 a person. The menu list for the all you can eat is pretty short about 12-18, but we found plenty to like. The service was good, food was quick and the waitresses were frequently around. Would definitely go back.

I'll occasionally go to a Japanese steakhouse for the Hibachi experience, but it's usually not by choice. Not that there's anything wrong with the food or the show; it's just not my thing. The great thing about visiting Japanese steakhouses, though, is that you often can get decent sushi without the attitude or pretentiousness that sometimes comes with "sushi-first" restaurants. I've visited Sumo several times (sitting on the "sushi" side, as opposed to the Hibachi side), and I'm always pleased by the service (friendly), the value (complimentary miso soup and house side salad with a dynamite vinaigrette), and the sushi (fresh, large without being inconvenient, and plenty of both traditional and "contemporary" offerings). Are there "better" sushi restaurants in the metro? Probably. Are there sushi values ("bang" for the buck) in the Metro? That remains to be seen. The only negatives? Decor leaves something to be desired (not that I really care, but it bears stating), and it's in Edmond (yes, I'm prejudiced against anything outside of the Center City). Still, I'll make the trip occasionally (which is pretty painless since it's on Broadway). Recommended.

Came in with a group and a toddler. Great service great food and the best fries rice I've had in OK. The toddler even ate a man sized portion of fried rice. The cooks are very entertaining and very good at what they do. I will definitely be attending again.

We've looked all over OKC for a great Hibachi restaurant, and after trying Musashi's, Kubuki, Shogun's, and a few others with little to no success, we've FINALLY found our OKC Hibachi spot!! The restaurant is deceptively nice inside (the outside is a little sketchy), the waiters are super helpful and attentive, and the Hibachi chefs are GREAT. They're nice, talkative (but not to the point of being annoying), have great knife skills, put on a great show, and most importantly, make AMAZING food. Everything was seasoned well (unlike the other restaurants mentioned above), the portions were HUGE, and the food was cooked to perfection. Don't waste your time with the other Hibachi places in OKC, they're all either way too expensive, serve bad food, or both. We'll definitely be regulars at Sumo!!

While the hibachi show was fun to watch with the extended family, I've definitely had better experiences at Japanese steak houses. We had four people ordering sushi...and rather than put it on separate menu cards, we had to lump it all onto one. The kitchen became confused (we kept our own copy of what we sent to compare it) and we had to wait even longer (we sat there for a total of almost three hours) for our second round of sushi that they had never sent in the first place. Also noted...the bathroom stall doors in the women's room has what appear to be poop splatters, so don't touch them if you can help it. The tile around the toilets is also disgusting and had I not had half a bottle of wine, I'd have run in the other direction.
