I really wanted to like this place. Searching for your "favorite local Chinese restaurant" is hard and I was hoping to actually find one. We've tried this restaurant again and was gravely disappointed again. Despite having fresh vegetables the sauce in the szechuan chicken reminded me of La Choy canned Chinese. The chicken friend rice seemed too oily and the flavor was mundane.

So a cup and a half of rice with 4 ounces of chicken, a couple scallion bits and sauce equals 11$. Thanks, great job.

This is our favorite local Chinese restaurant. We visit frequently. Our only complaint is that the flavor of the food is not always consistent. Sometimes, the General Tso's is extremely spicy, sometimes is on the bland side. Same with the Broccoli Beef. Sometimes, it has a lot of garlic flavor and other times, I have to add more garlic just to give it any flavor. On the positive side, the crispy chicken dishes are always very crispy. The staff are extremely pleasant and very polite. In just a couple of visits, they will recognize you and remember what you had previously ordered.

Definitely the best Chinese in Westerville. We've been going there for about 10 years and never had a bad meal or service! I would highly recommend.

Lucky House is my favorite Chinese in Columbus. I go there 1-2 times a month, usually carry out. When I do dine in it's for lunch. My order is ready right away when I order take out. Lunch is pretty prompt, and the food is piping hot. I would recommend Lucky House to anyone who wants yummy food that's priced well, especially considering the portion sides are really generous. I can't eat the whole lunch portion I have extra to take home. The dinner portion is enough for two meals for me. My husband can eat the whole dinner portion himself.

Evening out with my daughter before shopping. Enjoying our meal. Lots of locals in/out for pickup. We had the veggie egg roll, shrimp with vegetables and beef & broccoli. Huge portions. Enough for a separate meal. Moderate prices. Good service. Will be back.

For what you receive this is a moderately priced and excellent restaurant in my view. A particular favorite of mine is the orange chicken and my wife is passionate for their scallops. Pleasant atmosphere, excellent service, highly recommended. It is not "fine dining" Chinese or top-of-the-line or whatever, but it can come close enough for a very pleasant dining experience with friends and family.

I give Lucky House high ratings. The staff is friendly and helpful. They will let you customize your order to your satisfaction. Could not finish all the food. Gen Tso chicken was great. Wife's Cashew chicken was great. Our neighbor had the human beef and it was great. Great service too!!!

Saw the reviews in Yelp and decided to give it a try for lunch. My wife and I had been here years ago, it looks like they freshened up the dinning area since the last time I was here (15 years ago?)... Well it was a while :) The Mrs had the house Lo-mein she loved it. Yours truly had the Szechuan Chicken it was terrific. Also we enjoyed a bowl of Egg Drop Soup, absolutely wonderful and I even had a spring roll. All was very good and we have leftovers for later. Great experience, friendly staff, give it a try!!

Outstanding food here, the General Tso's and the wonton soup is top notch

I am no Chinese food expert, but i love the flavor of their TSO and their warsuguy (sp)

Quite good (consistent) take out Chinese. My favorite is the cashew chicken. Worth driving out of your way occasionally. Yum!

A little torn on what rating to give this pace... I feel like it's kind of hit or miss. I've had several things here that I really enjoyed and thought were high quality, but I've also had, or seen other have, dishes that were really... eh. For instance, they make sweet and sour chicken the cheap American way - deep fried in batter with sauce drizzled over it. Ick. But in general I like it more than any other Chinese restaurant in the area (save for Yeuns (sp?), which is closed).

Inconsistent meals, some days (Sunday is traditionally the worst) the food is simply great, other days it's just a mess. Mess - taste is off, meat, chicken might be on the fatty side, and at times under cocked. It's ran by a very nice guy, and when issues brought to his attention he try's to make right.

Wow- even I am surprised I'm giving it five stars. I don't do it often, but my whole experience here was great. This visit was a surprise in several ways. Firstly, it was a surprise because I hadn't planned to eat here. I discovered we didn't have much to make lunch with at home, headed out to run errands assuming maybe I'd eat at the City near here, then threw caution to the wind. Secondly, the place itself was a surprise. I've known about it for a long time but always took a pass. It's in an area that has been kinda run down, though is now slowly coming back. The building itself is unassuming; nothing particularly bad about it, but from the outside it doesn't do much to attract attention. Inside, it is a mix of "old school" Chinese decor with a more modern open layout. It's much bigger than I expected, and there's plenty of room and light. Finally, the food was surprisingly good. I didn't expect much- I like Chinese, and it's rarely bad, but I didn't expect it to be as good as this. I started with crab Rangoon. They weren't very crabby, but the flavor of the filling was good and went well with the dough. I gobbled them up even though I wasn't particularly hungry. The menu was pretty varied, but I went with my standard to compare: Mongolian Beef. It was excellent. Tender meat, savory sauce, good green and white onions- in just the right ratio with the meat. A big portion of fairly standard fried rice, but again, the right amount and flavor to complement the entree. Service was phenomenal. The waiter was helpful and friendly, unobtrusive but always there when I needed something. Just perfect. And the price was low for such quality and service. Lunch specials looked even more affordable. I wish I'd checked this place out sooner, and will definitely be back.

Great hot and sour soup and the chicken wings were to die for. I almost fell out of my chair after the first bite.

Best Chinese in the area! Friendly staff and food is delicious! The food also comes out fairly quickly.

So I've ordered a lot of other things beside my usual, Kung bao chicken & the food hasn't been that good, I hate to say I'm looking for a new spot :-(

Don't judge a restaurant by its exterior. I have passed this place many times and finally stopped by for some soup. This restaurant always smells delicious and luckily tasted delicious. The tables have white clothes and the waiters wear black vests. I ordered hot and sour soup with egg rolls . I love egg rolls! These egg rolls are flakey and the filling was yummy. The soup was hot even by he time I had driven home. I will definitly be back.

Whenever we come back to Westerville, Lucky House is always on the list of spots that we need to go to. Anything on the menu is worth a try! Great food with great, friendly service!!

Went Saturday night right before close to share an order of dumplings and combo fried rice with my boyfriend. They were very nice to let us in right before closing. We were not fond of the dumplings as they were not steamed....they seemed deep fried. We learned that they have a Sunday buffet. So, Sunday we came back. The temporary buffet they sat up was really nice. Great options. I really enjoyed the lo mein and the General Tso Chicken. Boyfriend enjoyed the Pad Thai. One nice surprise is you get a bowl of soup brought to you during the buffet. The won ton was good. Seemed sweet but we believe it was from the pork that was in it. We will go back to try more from the menu.

What a great dinner! A bottle of wine and a four course meal for 2 for $50! The service was spot on and the portions of the food were very generous. The chicken didn't have inches of breading, but were flash fried and amazing quality and quantity. Nothing fancy but a great overall experience.

I actually like this place. R doesn't, and makes that face any time I suggest we get food from here. You know, THAT face. Sometimes I just order it anyway and the order is ready before I'm done placing it. I'm being slightly hyperbolic, but they seriously get stuff together post haste. It isn't fancy Chinese food, but it'll do if you're looking for Chinese food that is fast and not terribly expensive, so let's not get all high-brow here.

Lucky house is easily the best Chinese restaurant in Westerville! Their food is consistently good and higher quality than others. It would be awesome if they delivered but it's worth picking it up. When you dine in, you will get great service and their restaurant is very clean.

Man was it crowded! I am normally hesitant to try new places, i am sure glad i did. I was very surprised that there were just a couple places to sit. The food was very good along with the appetizer. Finding a place to park was good, and we did see quite a few people ordering take-out. All in all it was very clean and tasty place.

Lucky House is SERIOUSLY good. I always order orange chicken with white rice and I am NEVER disappointed. The service and food are great and it is also a tradition of mine to order on New Year's Eve - but beware! It is PACKED!

This is the Chinese restaurant I've gone to my entire life and it's what I crave when I'm gone from Westerville for too long. The Sunday buffet is always a good (food-coma inducing) choice. I get the sesame chicken and ask to add mixed veggies and they're more than happy to comply. Salvador is our favorite waiter and would help me practice my Spanish when I came I in before a vocab test in middle school. Good family environment. Just goes to show what a good group of people work here and run the business. Also recommend the egg drop soup, Singapore noodles, wor su gai, and mala string beans with fried tofu.

This is one of our favorite restaurants and we go there frequently. It is family owned and much of the wait staff has been there for years. The Family Dinner specials are really good with really large portions. Often times we'll order the Bobo Special for Two which includes all the main appetizers. We usually add 2 bowls of wonton soup and extra egg rolls - makes for a filling meal without leftovers. Last night - for the 1st time - we tried their seafood soup for two ($6.99) and it was excellent. Served family style in a soup tureen - it was equivalent to about 4 bowls of wonton soup. This is a family restaurant and is very casual. Not too noisy / great service and good food.

This has been a regular place for me since 1992. One of the few very good Chinese restaraunts that has good food and reasonable prices. My usual being Kung Pao chiken and hot n sour soup. More flavor than most places at this price. Firndly and quiet atmosphere.

I think for a buffet they are hands down great. My family and friends have been going here for Mother's Day and Father's Day brunch for probably 15 years. It's never a disappointment. They make the food in small batches so they are replacing it with fresh batches on regular intervals. They are also very accommodating for our LARGE party of 20 plus people. As long as we make reservations, we are always in the same spot ...... plus, it's a reasonable price for kids who don't eat alot.

Best family Chinese restaurant in town. Friendly service with a consistent great meal over the years. Try the ribs and pad tai.

  • Chris G.

Totally overrated. This is bad Chinese people. It tastes weird and the place smells like a basement. If you think this place is good, you owe it to yourself to get outside of your box and try some other eateries. I'm serious, it's expensive and tastes bad. We just ordered takeout, took a few bites, and then threw $30 worth of food in the trash. Don't make the same mistake we did.

Been a customer for years, and will continue to be one. The table service is always attentive and most of the people know who we are and what we typically drink, and even order. That's rare today, and I am always impressed. The short ribs as an appetizer are delicious, as are the spring rolls. I typically order the orange shrimp with steamed rice. It has never been disappointing. Not once. When I come back in town, I always make time to eat a meal here.

This is in an old Frishes or something similar. But they've got it pretty well cleaned up and with white tableclothes you'd never know it. I started off with a "spring roll" which looked so much like a regular egg roll I couldn't tell the difference. But they're not supposed to look that much alike, and they don't in most places. For my dinner, I ordered Singapore noodles and they were just barely passable. Not awful, but not great either. I should have passed but I didn't.

I would not go so far as to say Lucky House is authentic Chinese food, but it is pretty good. It's better than the fancy asian fusion places at Polaris and Easton, although the menu is more chinese-centric. The portions are large, which is good, because the price is a bit higher than your run of the mill neighborhood chinese delivery place. The restaurant used to be an El Bee's family restaurant, and you can still see the elements of that restaurant here, which kind of takes me back in time. Bottom Line: Lucky House is my go to "fine dining" chinese place, although it's still casual. If I want take out, I stick with China House in Glengarry Shopping Center, but Lucky House serves it's niche well, ansd is a better choice for chinese than the asian fusion rip-offs.

Went here for lunch with six people from work last Friday. I think Lucky House must be synonymous with outhouse, because that is where all six of us ended up for the next three days. Sorry, but something is not right here.

I love Lucky House so much that I burned myself out on it. There was a time when I couldn't go a week without getting their Tofu Pad Thai. I like to get their take-out, the young hostess is kind of rude and one of their usual waiters is kind of spazzy. Although there was a time when I brought my two daughters in and the host who cashed me out took my food out to my car for me. It was so nice! I would recommend the Tofu Pad Thai or Empress Chicken. Those are my faves!

If you are looking for a so so Americanized Chinese food, this is not a too bad choice, however, portion is not that large, and no special flavor. If you want some real Chinese food, DON'T GO THERE. I order double cooked pork, instead of fresh cooked pork, they use the nasty sweet taste processed pork. I didn't touch my dish again after 1 bite. I feel ashamed by their cooking as a Chinese. Imperial garden is the place to go, best real Chinese food in Columbus.

  • Kurt M.

The food here was deeply mediocre, but sometimes that's all I want in take out. Nothing was bad, and nothing was great. If it was much cheaper I'd go here all the time (assuming occasional breaks for work and the rest of "life"), but overall it's ok.

Not the best chinese food spot ive been to, but it does the trick. Reasonably priced, very fast, pretty good too. The restaurant had a weird smell to it that i was not familiar with. I was only in and out but i would definitely hit this again

Authentic Chinese food as you can get in Columbus, OH. Chef is great. Staff is friendly. All the dishes on the menu are authentic. Cannot think of one bad thing about this restaurant. You want real Chinese food, drop by Lucky House!

    (5)
  • Erica H.

Who cares about authentic? This is Chinese American food and it's awesome. Their sesame chicken uses thin cuts of chicken that are higher quality than the normal fast food Chinese fare. Portions are large enough for two meals easily. I also love their hot and sour soup. Been going here since I was little--ever since the place opened near 20 years ago.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
