Great broasted chicken and fish. Best known for ribs but I have never had them. People in my circle of friends say they are excellent. Good sides.

Jules and I had often eyed up the Original Rib House on US-40 many times, but we just hadn't made a trip there until this past Sunday. Looking for something to eat after an afternoon of lawn-mowing and yard care, we were ready for something low-key and relaxing. Original Rib House reminds me a bit of a slightly less classy Buckhorn Tavern; it has the dark atmosphere, the wood-paneled walls, and the meat-centric menu of Buckhorn, but it's not quite as expensive (and, yeah...not quite as good). However, that's not to say that we had a bad time at Original Rib House. Far from it! Their broasted chicken was crispy and juicy, with a spectacular 'crunch' as you bite through the chicken skin. Jules ordered the bacon-wrapped turkey medallions, which had been permeated by the smokiness of the bacon and were wonderfully tender. My ribs were a touch on the dry side, but I prefer that to fattier, less-cooked ribs. Likely, they were cooked on higher heat, rather than being smoked over a longer period of time. I was also a touch disappointed by the cottage fries: on first appearance they appeared to be golden-brown slices of potatoes cut chunky home-fry style. But, they lacked salt or any seasoning, which left them kind of bland. A bit of garlic salt or the like would go a long way for those. For $30, though? Jules and I were pretty satisfied overall. Original Rib House definitely provides a nice alternative to the Englewood mainstays of Company 7 and Oinkadoodlemoo. While I might not go there specifically for the barbeque, the broasted chicken definitely makes this a destination for us!

This place is really a joke. It is in need of a desperate makeover look and SMELLS like the 70s..mildewey damp smell, dreary dark colors etc. I ordered the ribs and chicken dinner. First of all, there were about 3 tiny ribs. They came out dry and burnt. SO much so that the waitress told me ahead of time that if i didnt like them she would take them back. WHY would you send them out that bad in the first place? I sent them back and the next ones came out SUPER TOUGH like they are boiled then grilled later or something. One rib was bloody/pink and the other 2 were so tough and almost pink that they smelled like raw pork! WOW! The BROASTED potatoes are supposed to be crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. These were almost soggy and limp! Next was the chicken. No flavor whatsoever, the breast was juicy but tasteless..crisp skin. The wing was so burnt that it shrunk to the size of a pigeon wing! Dry and crispy to the bone. The baked beans COULD HAVE been good but it looks as if they are made in bulk and reheated time after time...thick and pastey! This "meal" cost me $20 with tip and I drank water! The owner was walking around telling people that "he was the owner"...I wouldnt be too proud to brag on that at this time. SAVE YOUR $, over priced and its NOT REALLY BBQ!

Everyone I know loves this place, personally it's not good at all and majorly needs a remodel. Place feels dirty.

Very interesting local vibe to this rib joint. Rib fanatics may not get that excited as none of meats are smoked, but for what it is, it was very good. I got the BBQ combo with ribs (a little dry and too well done), pulled pork (very good flavor), and what they call a boneless rib. It's actually a pork tenderloin covered in dry rub, cooked like a steak, and served on sticks. Tastes like a pork chop. Sides were ok, but the third star is for the served cold, apple-sour cream pie baked fresh by hand, by the owners mother. Fantastic dessert. Prices are the other amazing thing. Most dinners were in the $10-$15 range. I think the mist expensive thing was still less than $20.

Baked potatoes burnt, ribs were itty bitty, and not so good. A little over priced for what we got

So after reading the current reviews and coming off a full day of travel, we were looking for a good dinner place and figured the Original Rib House would be a good stop. Wrong. First fail was the wine. Completely undrinkable. The beer, however, was cold and very reasonably priced. Stick with the beer list and skip the wine. (Sorry, ladies.) Second fail was the salad. Limp lettuce drenched in the house dressing made for an unappealing start to the dinner experience. (Forget the ambiance...there isn't any...so I had to start with the salad.) Plus, the white bread dinner rolls were not housemade and were cold. Third fail was the steak. My spouse ordered the filet and was grossed out by the connective tissue that was stringy and nasty. I tried a bite and it was also tasteless. No seasonings made it a huge disappointment. Her baked potato, however, was edible. Fourth fail was the "knife and fork" ribs and broasted chicken breast special. The boneless ribs were tough, overcooked, dry and basted with a vinegar sauce that was not remotely tasty. I tried to like them, I really did, but it just wasn't possible. I was so looking forward to the broasted chicken which got such great reviews from other diners...but alas, another fail. The thing tasted remotely like shrimp! Do you suppose they broast the chicken in the same fryer as they broast the shrimp? Nah...no one would do that. Would they? The result is that I had to peel the skin off and try to get through the nicely done chicken breast without focusing on the fishy taste. Really? Should I have to do that? The potato wedges, while perfectly done, were tasteless as previous reviewers have noted, so no sense going there. We spent $50 for a dinner that was a huge disappointment. If you are really, really hungry and are facing a drive after coming off the plane in Dayton, head south to a chain restaurant where the food quality will not be so disappointing. On the upside, the people were nice and the service was snappy. Too bad the food was a two-star performer.

Solid 3.5 stars. Located close to the Dayton airport, we stopped here on the way to Cincinnati. I didn't know what to expect, I almost thought it'd be a dive-y, grimey, good ol' boy, bar type of restaurant and was pleasantly surprised. The restaurant is large, with wood paneled walls lined with booths and a couple college games playing on some older TVs. Mike, the owner, sat us at our booth and was very helpful--giving suggestions and answering our questions on how the food was prepared. First glance at the menu, I already knew I liked the place. The first thing I read was that separate checks were OK and that they didn't add automatic tip for large groups. Oh word? Then I saw their prices. Stella was $3. Alright! So sad, I'm so used to LA prices, I swear. The dinners (ribs, broasted chicken, fish, etc) came in around $10-15. Nice! Then I turned the page and saw they had a smaller portions menu priced around $7-10. Awesome! Since I was going to be driving another hour to Cincinnati, gorging on dinner portions and driving in a food coma or transporting leftovers that would go bad at the hotel room would be no bueno. I settled on the petite baby back ribs with broasted potatoes and mac n' cheese ($8.49). Mike warned us that the ribs weren't the fall off the bone type, more pork chop textured. They were cooked rotisserie-style and slathered with original barbecue sauce, a vinegary, slightly spicy sauce. I thought they were very good. The broasted potatoes were giant wedges, crunchy on the outside but soft on the inside. The mac n' cheese was the OG, thin, orange-y sauce kind. Meh, but it's still mac n' cheese. Haha. The service was just OK, the waitress seemed irked that evening (therefore not the full 4 stars). Working at a slow place on the Friday of Labor Day weekend? I feel ya. She still did her thing though. After dinner, we spoke to Mike again and he gave us more suggestions on what to eat and try out in Cincinnati. All in all, good meal, left satisfied but not too full, and got some good tips. On to our next (food) destination...
