Road trippin and figured we would stop here. The place was nice but that was it. I got a basic everything bagel with cream cheese and a coffee. I went to fill my cup up with hazelnut and it's completely empty. I told the girl and she said she'd refill it. So after waiting 5 minutes I decide Ill just eat my bagel instead of on the road. The thing was loaded with cream cheese. I mean like no joke 1/4 cup of it. That's WAY too much. Finally the coffee was replaced and I filled my cup. I should have just went for what ever was actually there because waiting proved to be worthless - nastiest coffee ever. First time trying these guys and I will definatly be my last.

The food was good, but not what I ordered. The girl took my order, made it and sat it on the counter without telling me it was mine. So it sat there for a while before I eventually asked if it was mine. When I went to eat my sandwich I realized she made my sandwich with ham instead of sausage. I was already at home so I wasn't going to worry about it. My other visits were better than this, which is why I still gave it 3 stars.

Great lunch time spot. Lots of options, prices aren't bad and the food is tasty. My favorite sandwich is the lox and cream cheese.

I love this place...they have the best bagels that I've ever eaten outside of New York City. My favorites are the everything which has just "everything" and is totally popping with flavor and also the plain bagel. I'm that kind of girl...either all or nothing. Plain bagels are especially good when you get them fresh and they're still a little warm. Barry's bagels are dense but not too much and chewy like a bagel should be and flavorful...It tastes like a bagel! :) If I get a sandwich it's normally pastrami because theirs is delish. But I also like their smoked turkey a lot. Their soups are great (homemade) as are the sides...mac salad is very good and creamy! The cream cheeses have a nice variety and are all mixed there in the stores. The actual restaurants are bland...nothing to them like a fast food place but the food is great. Try them out if you get the opportunity!

First time here. Decided to try it after all the great reviews and hype. So here is mine: Upon entry: very unwelcoming feel. Almost like a warehouse. Food: was really good. Nice, fresh and tasty for sure! And you have to try their cookies! Menu: kind of confusing since the electronic marquise rotates too quickly. You barely could read what's on there. Price: I guess it all depends on what you order. Some things are a bit over priced but the others are right on. Service: my favorite part of a review. Why? Because it's almost a deal breaker for me. I informed the ladies working that it's my first time here, so I was letting people in behind me in line. So I decided to order, and I kid you not, all I asked was can I chose any meat on my eggle. Oh dear. It's like I asked for the world. The sighing, the huffing and puffing. And just to clear things up, I'm not that annoying customer! Every. Single. Employee was acting that way. Total turnoff! Look, I know it's lunch time and all but please! I just dropped $22 on lunch for two. Have some respect for your customers. Would I come back here again? Yes, for sure, their eggles are delicious!... But just to give their service another try. If they're still as crappy as they were today, then they can take their tasty bagels and have fun with them.

Staff was impersonal and rushed the experience. My sandwich was average but the soup was way too hot to eat. Also, what they call a bowl is small cup anywhere else. There are better places in T-town.

Walked into this location and it smelled of cigarettes and garbage. Needless to say, our appetites were immediately extinguished.

There is a huge variety of bagel options here and they make fresh bagels every day. I have lived in Toledo for almost 4 years now and these are by far the best bagels in town. My favorite is the Eggel, a bagel with and egg and cheese and ham, bacon, or sausage. They also have soups, salads, mac n cheese and some really awesome cookies with candy in them. Barry's is a must!

  • Sarah B.

The people were very friendly and the sandwich was good as well. I had a pastrami sandwich on an asiago bagel. The best part of the meal was the cauliflower cheddar soup.

As far as bagels go, I consider Toledo very lucky to have a locally-owned joint like Barry's. This is coming from an import to Toledo, via the Northeast (CT & NYC). I love the toasted bagels with their large selection of cream cheese schmears for breakfast. Salt bagel with cream cheese, tomato, and onion, please. But then there are all of the deli meats to make sandwiches! Salt bagels with ("jr." portioned) peppered turkey, lettuce, tomato, and onion are my favorite. There are a bunch of other fitting dishes on the menu board like Matzo ball soup. I've never been disappointed. I have been curious as to why there are poppy seeds on "salt" bagels, but it's not because I dislike poppy seeds... I just don't get it. Before I moved to Toledo, and was just visiting, I remember the old place in Westgate. Yes, I preferred the old location because of the atmosphere. But, I am okay with the new place too. On those weekend early afternoons when I am usually there, it's not the vibe I'm focussing on... it's the food.

I happen to love Barry Bagels EXCEPT this location. Each time I have visited, the service is horrible and the food takes forever. It seems the employees spend more time chatting with eachother than paying attention to the customers. There is absolutely no professionalism nor do they take any pride in how they look or speak to the patrons. I will avoid this location at all costs.

Move over Panera, because my bagel standards have escalated all thanks to Barry Bagels. True, it may be a favorite hangout for high schoolers, but I can overlook that so long as I get my hands on their yummylicious bagels. Favorites thus far are the Asiago Cheese and the Cinnamon Vanilla. The cinnamon vanilla is a treat in of itself sans cream cheese, but the asiago cheese bagel and the chive cream cheese is a killer combo. BB is a bit on the pricey side, especially when it comes to some of the other menu items, but I'll make the best out of what T-town has got to offer. Don't forget to pair the bagel/eggel/sandwich with a cup of Biggby coffee -- talk about an ingenuous idea! And as a random aside, the webmaster(s) of barrybagels.com has an obsession with babies and bagels. They're cute pictures nonetheless.

This one has changed since they redid the Westgate Shopping Center but it has not lost its charm...maybe has gained a different kind. Very nice inside and their food is still very good. Breakfast, lunch, dinner...all of the different sandwiches and salads are great. The bagels don't seem as big as they used to be but still very good. I am funny about eating potato salad but theirs is very good...I go there alot.

I may be biased because I've grown up eating bagels from Barry's, but (in my humble opinion) they have the best bagels. Period. Nothing I've had in New York City or Europe even compares (two places I have actually lived, so I tried a variety of bagels over a length of time). In fact, they are so good that my friend from Luxembourg asks anyone visiting the area to bring her a dozen bagels from Barry's. Needless to say, they are not very fresh once they reach Luxembourg, but she gobbles them down nonetheless. If you love bagels with cream cheese as much as I do, go to Barry's. My only complaint is that they do not open earlier for those of us who are required to report to work in the wee hours of the morn (i.e. high school teachers).

I will say I'm a bit nostalgic with my love of Barry's. I REALLY miss the original location in the Westgate shopping center that was raised for costco. The original location had a wonderful atmosphere. Wood paneling everywhere, lots of personality, a giant salad bar, tons of seating AND a coffee bar. The "new" location is a little sterile. Kind of tacky, contemporary colors and furniture. Super high ceilings and a very industrial vibe. VERY much like a school cafeteria. It used to be, the locals would hang out for hours. Now sadly many of them grab food, and end up next door at Starbucks. LAME if you ask me. No worries, because the food is still terrific (even without the salad bar) and the service is friendly and helpful. Plus, the same west Toledo regulars fill the dining area, so you're always going to bump into someone you know. It's just lost the social hub it used to have. I will say, the meats they offer aren't super great quality. SO don't treat this place like a deli. Treat it like a sandwich shop that benefits from research and a few visits. Personally i've found deep love for the pastrami they keep in a warming drawer. Top it with some muenster, tomatos, onions and mayo on a salt bagel and you're in "cheating from your diet" heaven. They offer well over a dozen bagel varieties, and also several flavored cream cheeses. I love the jalapeno cream cheese, as well as the chive. I give Barry's 5 stars in part because somehow, even with our large jewish community and sandwich loving community they are THE ONLY locally owned bagel shop in town. I also give them 5 stars because they know what they are doing. While i'm pretty focused in my ordering, I really enjoy watching what other people order. They sell a shit ton of baked potatoes covered with the craziest of things (just today i say someone get a potato covered in chicken salad!!!! as well as one coverrrrrrrrrrrrred in cheese) They are locally owned with several locations. They do a great job with hiring great people. And because of my deeeeeeeep fond memories of their original location that I wish to god they would try to recreate, they get a solid 5 stars from me.

This place is close to my cousins' home, and I always look forward to getting some Barry's every time I visit Toledo. The bagels are so fresh.. My favorite is the sesame seed toasted bagel with jalapeno cream cheese. It's not just cream cheese with jalapenos thrown in, they add some spices that add so much flavor. Love this place!

Right before I left for the airport, my boyfriend and I came here to grab a quick bite! This location seems like a good place to study at. I got a smoked salmon on plain bagel with scallion cream cheese. It was quite delicious. But my wallet was not happy. To me, this bagel was not worth $7 :(

    (3)
  • Faith C.

They have the freshest bagels. They're so soft and delicious! They are great to have for breakfast. They don't stay good for long, but it's ok because they're so good they don't stay around for long! And I absolutely LOVE the jalepeno cream cheese! It's great on an everything bagel or even on a sandwich! I highly recommend Barry's if you love bagels!

All I can say is that anyone who even dares to compare these pieces of dough and flour with bagels from New York City needs to be cast as a quickly-dispatched victim in a Robert Rodriguez film.... Being from NYC I had these "bagels" and they are trash compared to legit bagels in NYC. I don't want to hear anyone say they are OK for Toledo standards - that is irrelevant. These bagels are trash. Sorry people but you either never tasted real bagels or if you have then your taste buds need re-education classes. Smh....wake up people - these bagels are garbage and if you consider them to be anything else then please take Interstate 80 to NYC and get a real bagel. Until then, please refrain from canonizing these

I have been eating barry bagels ever since I was a little girl! My favorite bagel is their everything bagel. I usually get a sandwich when I go there- when ordering this, you have the option to get a junior size or regular (junior size=less meat). Their sandwiches are a little bit more on the pricey side but well worth it, especially if you've never had it. You also have to tell the person what other condiments you want on it. Lunch time is always busy so keep that in mind, but they usually work pretty quick! I've never had a problem there. Can't wait to go back again!

  • Steve W.

The very best bagels that you can get in Toledo. New York , Shmoo York!! I don't believe you could get any better anywhere. The sandwiches are just ok . But the bagels = best

I had their garlic Bagel with scallion creme cheese. As far as taste good, they are pretty delectable. As far as price go, I think they are little high on their sandwich. I went on a Saturday morning and I was impressed by the Ambiance. It felt like a high end breakfast place. To cut a long story short, its a place worth going.

Ahh, Barry Bagels. Their bagels are always fresh and the variety is superb. If you're buying a baker's dozen, try as many as you can! You won't be disappointed. Their cream cheeses are fresh and delicious. Their meats and sandwiches are superb. Their service is quality. The only thing keeping Barry Bagels from 5 stars is the price of the bagel sandwiches. That and I don't like the Chipotle-esque redesign of the inside. But I'm a bit biased for the older set-up. Quick tip: to save a little dough (no pun intended), get a junior sandwich. You still get plenty of meat, at about half the price!

  • Matthias B.

Their bagels are so good. I always liked them when I lived in Toledo, but now that I have moved away I realize that I took for granted just how good they are. Toledo is lucky to have a source for bagels this good. If you get them by the dozen w/o cream cheese they are very cheap. The bagel sandwiches are also very good, but the prize jumps up fast. Still, well worth it. Try the junior size sandwhich to save $ unless you are very hungry for a lot of deli meat.

  • Brendan W.

I love the bagels. They are great for any meal of the day. But the restaurant itself it way too expensive. From what I remember, it was like 5.50 or more just for a simple bagel sandwich. And it's not as if you can order a bunch of toppings on a bagel sandwich like you could a sub, just for the simple fact that it won't fit! Good sandwiches, and a nice atmosphere, but you could buy a dozen bagels for the price of one bagel sandwich.

Quite a good bagel place. Went there for the first time just this past Friday. They have a decent selection of bagels, and the staff was quite friendly. When I got to the register, I had another pleasant surprise. I found out that when using their members card (which is available free of charge) purchasing standard breakfast bagel sandwiches before 10 Monday-Friday made them half price! All the more reason to come back again!

  • Scott M.

Have eaten here many times. Bagels are always excellent and fresh. Meat and egg salad portions are generous. Matzo ball soup with noodles is yummy. Some of the other reviews are negative on the service. Can't say we've ever had poor service but the staff is not overly friendly which is really not a problem.

This should be everyone's go-to lunch spot. The sandwiches are amazing. There are so many options to choose from not just the type of sandwich, but also the type of bagel it goes on. The types of bagel range from plain to spinach & feta. They also make all of their cream cheeses in house... yeah they have a variety of those too! The place is big and there is free wi-fi. So far I have tried: chicken salad on a wheat bagel - great veggie & beef soup - great veggies & hummus on a spinach & feta bagel - great matzo ball soup - great This list is going to continue growing for as long as I am in Toledo because Barry Bagels in definitely my go-to lunch spot!

Love their cream cheeses! Best bagels in town. Those baked potatoes are awesome! Everyone who works there is very nice and fast!

I love Barry Bagels, but I cannot give this location more than the minimum lone star rating. The staff is always incredibly rude. I get that they're busy, but I've worked in food service and I was always able to maintain a friendly persona under pressure. It's not difficult. It's just a sandwich. You can crack a smile and be friendly. There are always about 8 different people trying to help make sandwiches in a very small space when it's busy, so food is made sloppily and you have to yell over other customers to get your order to them in busy lunch hours. Consistency of quality and portions between employees is poor. Potato salad at this location is pretty hit or miss as well. It's either mostly flavorless or so overpowered with mayonnaise, it's repulsive. One of the most annoying things I've experienced at this location is that I've ordered the same thing for years (corned beef bagel sandwich, potato salad, drink), yet I've been charged anywhere between $8-12. It's a combo meal and I am consistently charged exactly $9.92 at the Holland-Sylvania Road location. I've questioned the cashier when it's more expensive and have been given a different, stupid reason each time. Each lame reason was clearly made up on the spot. Also, they have had the exact same BOGO (aka: buy one, get one) coupons in circulation for years - literally, *years* - with monthly changing expiration dates. I once grabbed one from home without looking and it had expired the previous day. Even though the exact same coupon was in circulation, the cashier would not let me slide. I was pretty infuriated and annoying as a regular. This guy had waited on me multiple times and should recognize my patronage. I told him I didn't want the second sandwich, since my coupon wasn't going to be honored, and he threw the sandwich in the trash right in front of me, with a matter-of-fact attitude. Can someone in the service industry be any ruder? I used to frequent this location all the time when I worked in the area and went to UT, but pretty much stopped following coupongate. If a local place can't help out a regular who patronized them once or twice weekly, they don't deserve to be in business. Go to the Barry's location at the corner of Holland-Sylvania Rd. and Sylvania Ave. if you want a completely 180º better experience.

If you can get their bagels fresh then enjoy. The sandwiches however are nothing special. If you can buy lunch meat at the grocery store then skip Barry's. They serve Vienna corned beef as their specialty which is a travesty. So if you're looking for a classic deli look elsewhere, if you're looking for a sandwich place go elsewhere. Unfortunately there really isn't anywhere else to go in Toledo for deli.

    (2)
  • Molly S.

Ah, Barry's. The place we would go so seldom because we never had a coupon. It is a little pricey, but you're paying for freshness and quality. The bagels are baked at the Holland-Sylvania location, but are still chewy and delicious at Westgate. You can get an Eggel (breakfast sandwich) ALL DAY. The Everything Bagel is tops!

    (4)
  • Clay C.

I go to Barry's regularly and I almost always have the Eggel with cheese on a whole wheat bagel with coffee (they serve Bigby coffee so I assume the two companies are owned by the same person). Their jalapeño cream cheese is pretty awesome as well. It's a clean, upbeat place and the staff is friendly. The food tastes fresh and healthy for the most part. I am no bagel connoisseur, but I know what tastes good. Barry's is good stuff.

  • Matt W.

I never realized how good their bagels were until I travelled to other cities and tried others. Turns out, no one else knows how to make a decent bagel. The bagels here are chewy outside and soft inside. It's all about texture. Not to mention balanced, fresh flavors. I like the garlic, egg, and everything bagels (that's 3 different flavors). Their corned beef and pastrami is quality, as well. You can order lean or standard, which is good and fatty (come on, we're talking pastrami here). You will pay a hefty price for these bagel sandwiches (around $6.50, plus 1.00 surcharge for cheese). However, the subtle texture and flavor of the bagel, accompanied by fresh, quality meats, cheeses and veggies will leave you satisfied. Other, similar places simply don't have the standards to pull the bagel sandwich off. Just don't come expecting a true Jewish deli. You have to go at least to Detroit for that.

  • Steve S.

The best bagels I've every had, and yes I had them in New York. Barry's also has a good selection of meats and cheeses, that are top quality. You can't go wrong eating here. I've been stopping in weekly for over 20 years!!! Pastrami and chive cream cheese on a salt bagel, yum, yum.

    (4)
  • Michelle R.

The best bagel's ever. Period. I have lived in Chicago for 5 yrs and have yet to find a bagel that even comes close. Barry's is an absolute anytime I'm home visiting. My fav?? Corned beef & muenster on a garlic bagel - ridiculously scrumpch!

    (5)
  • A-dogg S.

My favorite bagels in the world. I've had bagels in LA, DC, and NYC. I've had Noah's and all these other big chains. Barry's are soft and chewy. Also, the deli selection of meat and cheese is superior.

    (5)
  • Josh W.

Great bagels, crappy coffee. They tend to be really packed in the morning to prepare to wait inline. The bagels are also on the pricey side, they really screw you with the cream cheese (which isn't that good). But the quality of the fresh bagels will still force me to give them a 3star. I hope the loss of the near by bookstore doesn't force them out of business.

  • Amanda M.

When people that have lived in T-Town their whole lives tell me they have never had Barry's my mouth literally drops. I have never had a bagel that compares the chewy, delicious treat that this place provides. They have a huge selection of kinds of bagels (tomato basil to good old everything), and many types of cream cheese (strawberry, veggie ranch, jalapeo). And don't stop at the bagels! Their soups and baked potatoes are simply amazing as well! A tidbit - if you don't want half a stick of butter and a full container of sour cream on your baked potato ask for it on the side, same with the cream cheese on the bagels. Since I can't even find a bagel to compare in Chicago, I visit this place at least once when I take trips back to Toledo to visit my family....ok...drooling over my laptop thinking of it now! My personal favorite: A garlic or salt bagel with scallion cream cheese - watch out though, it will make your breath pretty stinky!

Every time I pop in for breakfast to go on my way to work, I am in and out quickly. The food is good and coffee is always steaming hot. Doesn't matter if I'm getting just a bagel and cream cheese or a "eggle" with sausage and cheese....they consistently come through fast and fresh.

This place is a Toledo tradition. My favorite, corned beef on pumpernickel toasted, spicy mustard, lettuce and tomato.

  • vee v.

No place will ever compare to Barry's ...as we fans call the place. If you are lucky enough to be in the shop when they remove the jewels from the oven...take one...no..two! LOL It doesn't matter what flavor...you will love it! Warm from the oven...ummm..that is gonna hurt the hips..but I didn't care! LOL Take one of these lil suckers and place some roast beef on top....give it a whirl of cream cheese...as Emeril would say...'oh yeah babe!' If that combo doesn't suit your palet...try another...they will make it to order..fresh and with a friendly smile. Enjoy!
