Reviewed this restaurant this week for a meeting that I am having with 16 people later this month. Can't say enough about the service and the food. I have traveled the US for 30 years and have been to my share of Italian Restaurants including the Big Apple and this one ranks right up there anear the top. My pic for Best in Columbus. Everthing from the bread service to the quality of the food is spot on. Plan on spending some money here this is not your Frazolis but well worth it. Stop in and say hi to Judy the owner and enjoy.

Boxed pasta. Mediocre chef's special. Too much pasta in a sausage & zucchini dish. No sauce. Chunky weird cheese cubes. Sub-par salami & cheese in the antipasto. Great service. Great wine. Not good enough to make up for the lame food.

Hands down best Italian ristorante in Cbus!! Don't be deterred by the unassuming strip-mall storefront, check this place out it's fantastic; interior is a nice upscale dining experience with an open view to the kitchen. I like starting off with the Shrimp Cognac and a zuppa, though the bruschetta and stuffed shrooms are fab too. I've taken an expansive tour of the menu, my two favs are Vitello Parmigiano & Vitello Marsala; though if veal is not your thing just substitute with chicken, those same dishes as pollo are delish as well. Finish it all off with an espresso and a cannoli - they're homemade and simply amazing!

Scali's is a great place to go whether you're on a date or going out to dinner with family or friends. I've never had a bad dish there and they have a great wine selection! On Wednesdays, all bottles of wine are $7 off. The ambiance is formal with low music. You can easily have a conversation. The tablecloths are white linen and there are custom murals on the walls. The staff is well-versed in the menu and can offer some great suggestions. The chef always has special dishes that are not listed, as well. During my last visit I had Chicken Marsala and it was superb! The chicken was cooked with wine and doused with mushrooms, which I love! Great job, Scali's!

Arrived and got seated right away (had reservations). The inside is not overly decorated Italian-style. Plenty of room to walk around. The waiter came and took our drink order, only after a few moments. Nice, polite, informative gentleman. I ordered the Peasant Tortellini: tortellini in a white Alfredo sauce, chopped sausage (substituted it for the capricola ham), mushrooms and peas. The sauce was very rich and creamy. Great Alfredo taste. And the sausage? Wow! Huge chunks mixed into the dish. I tried a price of their Tiramisu cake for dessert. It wasn't bad. I'm sure I'll try it again, should I come back here :) This joint has been around for over 30 years. Authentic Italian food, indeed :) A good pick for a a Christmas dinner party.

Oh wow that was the best meal ever. Have been here a few times before, all excellent but have had a hard time getting in since this place is small and so busy. Definitely best to have a reservation. Ordered a bottle of a Sauvignon Blanc I didn't care for and I have no idea how they realized this because we didn't complain about it but the chef came out and made a personal recommendation for a wine that was fantastic! Have no idea what it was but was dry and had an earthy finish. The guy is a mind reader! I had the Lulu pasta, hubby had the Peasant Tortelini which I tried to talk him out of simply because typically pricier Italian places will offer maybe 4 raviolis, 2 cannellonis etc and I know my guy was here to eat. He discussed it with our fantastic waiter and decided to go for it, portion was incredibly generous and so good! My Lulu was just as I remembered it, perfection. Can't recommend enough though I will say do get a reservation otherwise a wait is likely. We got super lucky because they typically do not have calamari but they did today as a special and it was definitely the best calamari I have ever had!

My partner and I went here not expecting much, but were pleasantly surprised when we sat down at our table. Even though they are located in a shopping center, their interior felt sophisticated and intimate. We both ordered the fettucini alfredo with chicken and shared a bottle of wine. Everything looked and tasted great. We then shared the red velvet cake for dessert, which was ok. But we felt we maybe should have went with their tiramisu instead.

This place was packed when we came in on a Friday night. I was greeting by a very friendly lady (possibly the owner) who was very nice and on top of everything. The food was really great and the service was wonderful. Our food came out a little bit late but everything was pretty good. All in all it was a pleasant experience at a nice family owned restaurant.

I feel awful about leaving this review because obviously people like it here. I honestly think it was just a BAD night due to the small wait we had to endure. The broccoli and spinach side dish was very bland and the veal salmibocca (sorry I think I butchered the name) was pretty flavorless. It tasted like pork that had been left in a basement for 6 weeks, unrefrigerated. I think they have what it takes... The food looked amazing and looked to have potential but tonight?... Was not the night!! The wait staff was VERY generous.

Bruschetta is fantastic. Caesar salad is really good as well. They don't overdo the dressing like some places. I had Baked Manicotti...a fantastic dish! Teresa had peasant tortellini without mushrooms...again - fantastic. Helen was our waitress and she was an absolute dear. We felt like she was Mom and we were visiting her for dinner. She took good care of us! Words fail me in trying to express how good the food is here. It rivals the best we had in North Beach in San Francisco!!! And it's a lot closer. Reynoldsburg, Ohio...who knew???

As usual best food ever. I had the grilled swordfish with arugula, it melted in your mouth! Husband had seafood pasta special, ate it all! Great service from Sam. Love getting the emails. Really helps us so we don't miss a great special. Can't wait to go back

It was just okay. The unfortunate part is the bread isn't good. What Italian restaurant doesn't have good bread. That may have been the deal breaker right there for me. I had the lasagna. It was just ok. It was super cheesy. I wish it was more meaty than cheesy. My husband loved the white sauce Raviolis he got. I am willing to try it one more time and see if it is just an off night.

Wouldn't think this place was so amazing and the food incredibly delicious from the outside of the building. But it is so good. Pasta is all made in-house. Staff is super nice and helpful. And prices are great for the value!! Tip - make a reservation! Not a ton of seating but very cozy and roomy. We sat at the bar tonight and it was great. Bartender was so good and sweet! You should come here! Great hidden gem in Columbus.

OMG. DELICIOUS!!! Definitely the best Italian I have had in years. My husband, friend and myself had an array of appetizers. All outstanding. The Mussels were perfect as a main dish. We sat at the bar to eat and drink. Make reservations!!!! There was an hour wait without. Now only open for dinner. The waitress at the bar was so friendly very quick with our service and very helpful in the menu selection. Highly recommend.

Awesome Italian food, better then an olive garden experience. Family owned and operated. My wife and I had our dinner rehearsal here and we're more then accommodated. Would recommend to friends, family and future Italian food goers.

What can I say other than WOW!!!! It's been about 15 years since I've been here and after tonight I'm not sure why it's been so long. The restaurant itself isn't striking but true to the Italian philosophy it lets the food speak for itself. The language it speaks is food of love!!! Because we didn't have reservations we opted to sit at the bar for immediate seating. The bartender was quintessential professional and we were well cared for from start to finish. I can't speak more highly of her and her professionalism and skill as she took care of the patrons at the bar and the servers she made drinks for. She is a gem. I had my mind made up until she explained the night's specials and then my dilemma began. However after my evening there I'm certain there was not a wrong option. I had a great glass of Chianti with my dinner which was the perfect compliment. I can't remember what the special I chose was called but it was amazing. Orecchiette pasta with zucchini spinach and cannellini beans. I chose this because it was a lighter option for dinner and I've been working to keep my new year's resolution. I was very pleasantly surprised at how the beans contributed a flavor to the overall dish. I've never heard of this flavor combination before but WOW did it work. My companion had the manicotti and I had a taste and it was delish as well. The sauce was simply perfect. I can say without a doubt we will be back again but with reservations secured next time.

Service was amazing tonight on a super Busy valentines day!!! I did expect amazing food and was disappointed that it was just average Italian food. The staff though is super friendly and in point. Would come here again and try something other than the manicotti. Would have also expected better bread based on the reviews.

Scali is one of, if not the best Italian Restaurant in the Columbus area. Great staff too! Best dishes include the Pollo Mediterraneano, Lasagna, and the Tiramisu is the best I've ever had. But you can't go wrong on this menu. We have been going there for years!

    (5)
  • Emerson G.

We showed up and we were seated almost instantly. After ordering, the food took about so long to get to us (45 minutes) though. They give you too much food and ot is very rich. You take 3 bites and you can't eat any more. All together, it was good, but it took way too much time.

  • Deb D.

Wonderful Italian food! Being from a densely populated Italian community in upstate NY, I miss all of the authentic Italian restaurants they have there. Scali is one of the best places I have found in Columbus so far. Their pasta is always cooked perfectly, they have delicious specials every day and an excellent array of Italian wines. Ask your server or the owner himself (he is always floating around) for the perfect wine for your meal/tastes and they will be spot-on! We go here often and love it!

  • Morgan H.

Food is delicious. Been here twice and loved it both times. Staff is very nice. I recommend the Peasant Tortellini!!! My boyfriend always gets the Brascioli.

  • Grace J.

I've been here several times now and each has been a great experience. I'm not a fan of their bread, but the entrees and desserts are delicious. The Chicken Parmesan has a little too much breading for my taste but it is still very tender and fresh. It's a bit on the pricy side but worth going. The service is always very attentive and accommodating. Everyone is friendly! I highly recommend it for a nice dinner date!

Our family was passing through in the way to PA. I checked out Yelp and it directed us here off of I-70. I am a spaghetti and meatball guy. The best I have ever had!!! The girls had the Lu Lu and loved it as well. Service was outstanding. We came in very causal and a bit worried we were underdressed. We were welcomed and had a fantastic meal. This will be a regular for us as we travel back and forth to PA.

Very good food and even better service! I took my family there last night for the first time and we were all impressed - even the kids. The food was delicious and they served plenty of it. I had the baked manicotti and my wife had the brascioli while the kids had spaghetti and meatballs. The staff does a really good job of keeping the environment light and fun, all while delivering great service. This is a place we'll definitely be visiting again.

I found this place through yelp review and had a very high expectation before going. And I liked the service and decor. But the food was just ok. I got lunch portion of veal, it was too oily and bland for me. The side dish was awesome, sautéed broccoli with garlic. I think I may come back to give this place one more chance to surprise me.

We have been regulars at Scali's for almost as long as they have been open (20 years this year). This is the ONLY place in CBUS we go for Italian. Family owned and operated it is simply the best. The lasagna, peasant tortellini, spaghetti and meatballs and gnochi with cream sauce (so decadent but so good!) are our favorites but I've never had a meal there that wasn't absolutely delicious. Definitely save room for dessert. The pana cotta and canolis are our favorites. Be sure to stop in and see the owners Frank and Judy. It doesn't get any better than this!

  • Mike N.

I give it one star primarily because my chicken was pink on the inside! Previous experiences were ok, however I asked if they would make me chicken Parmesan with grilled chicken instead of breaded. Not sure if the undercooked chicken was intentional or not but I got sick enough to not return.

I have been going to Scali's for many years now. It's one of those real hidden gem restaurants - located in a shady little strip mall in the middle of nowhere Reynoldsburg, next to an equally shady bar. Don't let those things discourage you, as the best restaurants are often found in the least likely places. This is a real family-run joint, with daughters, sons, cousins, uncles, and anyone else helping out. This is a regulars joint, and the owners seem to know everyone. The food is DELICIOUS. The pasta lulu is wonderful, and bruschetta is fabulous too. If they have the panna cotta, do yourself a favor and order it. It's homemade, and soooooooooooo good. Honestly, everything here is delicious and as long as you go on a good night, you'll leave very satisfied. The one issue I have had with Scali's is that they can be inconsistent. Sometimes they are on top of their game, but sometimes they suck. I am not put off by that, and you shouldn't be either. This place is insane. Go. Now. Enjoy.

Thank You YELPERS! This is one of those places I probably would never have discovered if not for the assistance of Yelp. So in turn, I am grateful for Yelp's existence. Scali's is hilariously tucked away in a strip mall in Reynoldsburg, but definitely fits as a "Don't-judge-a-book-by-it's-cover" situation seemingly common to so many restaurants. The decor is clean and simple, the dining room is cozy without being crowded, and the open kitchen lends a sense of intimacy to the whole dining experience. Service was top-notch, from the host stand to the final check (and even after). Our server had ample knowledge of the menu and assisted greatly in making selections for my wife and I. I didn't necessarily find the pre-meal bread to be anything special, but the Wedding Soup here is freakin' delicious so make sure you order a bowl. It's filled with plump and tasty tortellini, a rich broth, and all the appropriate vegetables for such a dish. My entree was simple and well-presented - chicken breasts finished with lemon garlic butter and rosemary. OK, I love rosemary. LOVE IT. I will sometimes ask my wife, "Honey, do WE use rosemary?" It's a miracle she agreed to marry me. Don't get me wrong, it was a tasty dish. My wife went for the special. Holy freakin' crap. All I know is it involved penne, smoked salmon, and mascarpone cheese sauce. It was seriously the best thing I have ever had at an Italian eatery. I still think about it to this day. After the meal, we fell to the trap that strikes an estimated 47.2% of diners at the end of every meal -- we got up, left, and forgot our to-go boxes. When we realized this several minutes later, I knew we had to go back. I was not about to leave that food behind. I entered the bustling entryway and made my way to the host stand. Our server (who I think mentioned that he was the host's husband) was just coming over to confer with her about our abandoned to-go containers and had everything ready for us to go. That's good enough for a smile. I've got to give big thumbs up for a family business using fresh ingredients and preparing all meals to order. To have friendly and impeccable service on top of that slides Scali's comfortably into 5-star territory. Definitely get yourself a reservation for this place, the small waiting area fills up fast, and while it's worth waiting for...if you don't have to, then why do it?

Ive been here about 4 times now, and this is the best authentic Italian restaurant I have found in central Ohio. The ambiance is good, the restaurant is clean, service is impeccable, and the food is outstanding! They have a full service bar, and a very nice wine list. Portions are full and reasonably priced. Their Vitello Saltimbocca and Pollo Mediterraneano are just 2 of their awesome signature dishes. I highly recommend them, and we will definitely be returning.

This restaurant is FANTASTIC! Great menu, quality ingredients and fabulous service. I was in OH for business and I wanted to avoid the restaurant "chains". When we entered Scali we immediately felt welcome and relaxed. We were greeted and had the pleasure of meeting our server named Helen! I'm convinced our experience was better because she guided us to the specialities of the house. We started with an amazing antipasti, enough for 4 people to share. The pasta Nonna (i think), rigatoni, eggplant and fresh mozzarella was awesome. I was stuffed however had to try the homemade lemon cake with buttercream icing. Start to finish the meal was great. If you try this restaurant ask for Helen to be your server, she's spectacular and will improve your experience. Nice wine list and italian beer (yum).

This is the best Italian place on the East side of town and one of the best in CBUS. I think the only real competition is Tony's in the brewery district. On a Friday night, with no reservations, we walked right in and got a table and the place was jammed. We were expecting the standard hour-long wait but we didn't have to deal with that at all. Instant seating which is awesome. We must have gotten there in the nick of time as there were a bunch of people sitting and waiting by the door all night long. The service was prompt, friendly and knowledgeable which seems to be a rarity these days at restaurants. Our server told us about all of the specials, what was in them and what not to order for certain food allergies. We didn't even have to ask about food allergies he just told us about them. Excellent! My wife had the veal picatta. I stole some and it was fantastic! I had something, I forget the name of it, but it was steak that was flattened out and rolled up with cheeses and meats inside and then cooked like a giant burrito. What ever it was called it was also quite good though I think I'll get the veal next time I go. We had tiramisu that was one of the best tiramisus I've had in CBUS. My wife had their cheese cake which was also life changing good. Definitely save room for dessert when you go here.

Best Italian food since we've left New York. Everything was fresh and tasty. I ordered the Brascioli, it was perfectly cooked the sirloin was thinly sliced and not fatty, the capicola brought a lot of flavor to the dish and the cheeses mellowed the meat roll out without being to overpowering. My companion had the linguini in white clam sauce and I didn't even get to sample a bit because he scaffed the whole thing. The best thing about the meal is that it was so much food I got to take home a doggie bag for breakfast tomorrow.

Fun place to dine. Energetic atmosphere without the noise, if that makes sense. I hark from New York so I'm always on the prowl for excellent authentic Italian. This is very good, and the service is great. Wine list is good. Sauce is decent! Although I wish I could get cappallini pasta; their story is they can't find a brand that doesn't break while preparing. Huh? Overall, it's very good and a fun place to go!

We showed up and we were seated almost instantly. After ordering, the food took about so long to get to us (45 minutes) though. They give you too much food and ot is very rich. You take 3 bites and you can't eat any more. All together, it was good, but it took way too much time.

Food is delicious. Been here twice and loved it both times. Staff is very nice. I recommend the Peasant Tortellini!!! My boyfriend always gets the Brascioli.

I give it one star primarily because my chicken was pink on the inside! Previous experiences were ok, however I asked if they would make me chicken Parmesan with grilled chicken instead of breaded. Not sure if the undercooked chicken was intentional or not but I got sick enough to not return.

Just ate here tonight. Excellent service and the food was marvelous! I had the stuffed mushrooms and the Pollo Alla Marsala. Just wonderful. Next time may just order the stuffed mushrooms a couple times. Good service, good food. What more do you need.

Go. Now. Enjoy.

We were going to go to another Italian resturant downtown, but there was some event going on. I had heard about Scali on the radio (610) and we decided to try it out. My dinner companion had been there before, about 15 years ago. I had never been there. The resturant is in an old strip mall. Unless you knew where it was you could easily have passed it by. We walked in and were asked if we had reservations. I don't recall being in any establishment in the past several years where I was asked that question. With out a reservation we were told it would be an hour wait, unless we wanted to eat at the bar. We chose the bar. The bartender was very friendly and very knowledgeable regarding the menu. I ordered a ceasar salad and the manacotti plate. The salad was large, fresh and very very good. The manacotti was a huge portion and was delicious. The pasta tasted home made. The filing was amazing. We were so full that we were unable to try the desert. We will definately be back!

This is a great Italian restaurant and the dishes are scrumptious! Had Lu Lu - penne pasta with shrimp and crab in As luscious cream sauce. Shrimp was plump and fresh while there was a nice amount of real crabmeat! Loved it! Had the chocolate pate cake Wow! It was like eating fudge! Very rich - but so worth it! And the berry sauce just topped it off perfectly!

Still the best. The off menu items have become very inventive. In keeping with the freshness of ingredients, sometimes they are in limited supply on a given night. The wine list has improved and prices are steady given the times. A top 10 Columbus favorite of mine.

I was craving a piece of Italy last night for dinner. Authentic Italian, not an Olive Garden. I searched for places nearby, and came across this gem. I spent a good $60 on myself, which was entirely worth it and I regret nothing. The Bruschetta was amazing, the pollo Rosamarini was delicious and I finished it off with a huge piece of Tiramisu. Service was great and always attentive to my needs. Scali's is located within a plaza off of Route 256. The outside looks sort of scary, but once you step inside, it's like being inside of an Italian kitchen. The tables are set with white linen, sterling silverware, and a candle. The bar has granite countertops, and several bottles of Chianti decorating it. A black and white poster of Sophia Loren adorns a wine cabinet. The kitchen is wide open, and if you sit at the counter, you have a front row seat to watching your meal be prepared. The wait staff is incredibly knowledgable and friendly. I started off with the Bruschetta, which was to die for. Four huge pieces of the ciabatta with ripe tomatoes, garlic & olive oil. It is sprinkled with grated Parmesan cheese. For my entree, I chose the pollo Rosamarini, which was two chicken breasts in a white wine, lemon, rosemary & garlic sauce, garnished with lemons and rosemary. With an entree, you choose a side, so I chose the traditional pasta with red sauce; also amazing. To end my delicious meal, I was more than excitied to get the Tiramisu, which was homemade and well worth every calorie consumed. If you are craving an authentic Italian meal, do yourself a favor and stop at Scali's - you will not regret it!

In my family, you are not really considered to be a "significant other" until you have gone through "The Scali's Meal." We eat there almost constantly, for a lot of birthdays, holidays, and general meals. Out-of-towners LOVE the place and often ask to go back! You cannot go wrong with any of the menu options, but I always start with the zuppa--Mama Scali's specialty wedding soup, with filled tortellini and beautiful meatballs. The bread is fresh and crusty, and all the entrees are done to perfection. I've been eating here since I was 8 and have never had a bad meal! They offer a kids' menu and an extensive wine list, as well as excellent desserts and take-out. Make reservations for weekends! And prepare to search for a parking space in the strip mall lot if you have a later reservation. But it's all worth it for the amazing meal that's in store!

Delicious. Best Italian I've ever had and I've had the other three major places and disappointed but this place the manicotti is amazing so is the bread and Parmesan cheese and the customer service. Great dinner.

AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My wife was stationed in Sicily for the navy and said this is the most authentic dinning experience. Me being from south eastern OH and not ever being out of the country was amazed at the atmosphere and the food. I used to take my wife to olive garden but after seeing her reaction to this restaurant it has become our new place to celibate and have a great meal.

I've only been there tonight and I only come to Columbus for business trips ever few years, so I hate that Yelp requires me to give a star rating, rather than just letting me publish my experience. So, I urge the reader to ignore the stars and just read and consider my review. Wait Time: acceptable Ambiance: Very good. Very nice presentation. Not too noisy. People sitting at other tables seemed to be enjoying their meals and everyone seemed happy. Staff: Excellent. You could tell this was a family-run place where the family liked each other--my waitress referred to the chef as "Papa". Menu choices (as printed on the menu): Very good. As someone who doesn't eat red meat, but is happy to devour fish and crustaceans, there were several options for me to choose from. I wish there was a veggie lasagna option, but I am in Columbus, not California, so I did not expect there to be one. I asked for a recommendation between the cheese and spinach ravioli, the salmon and bowtie pasta, or the linguine with clam sauce. The waitress said everyone loved the linguine with clam sauce, but she recommended the ravioli since it was their specialty. I took her recommendation and ordered the ravioli. First, out came the bread: several slices of blah Italian bread, pre-smothered in olive oil. Buzz. Next, the salad. This was nice with a little bit of spice to either the house Italian dressing or the kalamata olives. I enjoyed the salad. Ding. Then, came the ravioli and boy was I underwhelmed. This was perfectly acceptable ravioli, cooked al dente, but the sauce tasted of tomatoes with absolutely no seasoning in it. It was certainly Tomato sauce with a capital T and the tomatoes were obviously fresh and the sauce tasted homemade, but it also was spectacularly bland. And, "perfectly acceptable" combined with bland was a huge letdown from what I expected of a house "specialty". There was nothing special about this dish. I probably should have picked the linguine with clam sauce and ignored the recommendation. Buzz. Since I was dining alone, my phone was almost completely dead and I wanted to use the navigation on it to find my way back to the hotel, but I still wanted to try the dessert, I ordered the chocolate cake with berry sauce and took it to go back to the hotel. Back at the hotel, I ate the cake. The cake itself was good, not great, nice rich chocolate that was a little dryer than I like, but the berry sauce was delicious and made up for the tiny shortcomings of the cake.

We picked this out-of-the-way place randomly, as a way to satisfy a fluke craving for Italian fare. I'm glad we did, because it's the best Italian place I've found in town, and maybe the best Italian restaurant I've ever been to. Everything from the bread to the tortellini to the sausages is hand-made, and you can tell. The Brascioli is absolutely to die for.

My father took me to Scali for my last birthday. This is one of his favorite restaurants and he absolutely raves about it. I have not added Scali to my list of favorite restaurants yet. Don't get me wrong, my food was good, my wine was good and my dessert was good. It just wasn't great. I didn't eat anything that i couldn't have gotten at a dozen other places. That being said, I did not leave hungry and I wasn't sorry that I went. I am only disappointed that I did not have the absolutely glorious experience that so many other diners seem to have had. I am going to give Scali another try, I am hopeful that I just ordered poorly, or it was an off night in the kitchen.

I eat here occasionally on business. A nice family run restaurant. Seems reasonably authentic for an Italian place in the Midwest. If you think veal is cruel then you obviously aren't Italian and should avoid this place. However if you like to eat great veal dishes this is your place. Over the last several years I have been served by several different people. The last waiter a couple of months ago was a condescending a##hole who also happened to be a lousy waiter. A deadly combination for a small restaurant. I will continue to eat here once or twice a year based on the food but will simply ask for a new server in the unlikely event that the last idiot still works there. Would recommend ordering wine or beer instead of somewhat weak mixed drinks. Just ask to speak to the owner in the event that service is not on par and enjoy the food. My one bad service experience with one bad waiter should not discourage you from trying this place out yourself.

This place is authentic, with a management staff that knows their stuff. Questions about the menu? The wine list? Prices? If your very well trained server doesn't know, the manager on duty does. Great food, great ambiance, great service. My only complaint is the location - I always forget they are there!

This is a damn good Italian restaurant. I've been here a few times before but I guess it was before I started to Yelp. I generally have one of the specials if they appeal to me. Tonight they offered zuchini stuffed with cheese, proscuitto, and a few other things so I had that for an appetizer. For my main course I had Penne all' Amatriciana, but I had them substiture spagetti for the penne. Other than that, it was a normal menu item. As usual, it was a heck of a meal. If it weren't 23 miles out there, I'd probably go there a little more often.

Wonderful restaurant tucked away in a small shopping center. The friendly and knowledgeable wait staff was very attentive. Decor is pleasant. The food was wonderful. Without a doubt the best Vitello Saltimbocca I've ever eaten. The veal was fork tender and the sauce was exquisite. Service was excellent and timing was perfect. I couldn't have asked for a better authentic Italian meal.

We had high hopes going in, I'm from Cleveland and my girlfriend is from New York, both from areas with lots of Italians, and as a result, lots of incredible little Italian restaurants. Sadly this little place wouldn't stand a chance in either of those areas. It started downhill right from the out....with the bread. It was dry and a little stale, and utterly drenched in oil, a sprinkling of Parmesan (a little jar sits on every table) became a spoonful as the oil greedily soaked it up, and even then it was still not good. Didn't finish the basket, definitely didn't ask for more. Next was the appetizer, Bruschetta, which I had ordered prior to my first bite of the aforementioned bread. My heart sank as it was delivered to the table on the exact same bread we had just given up on, but it at least looked appetizing so we dove in...and promptly drowned in Garlic. The bread itself was a tiny bit better than its' predecessor, (perhaps stored better, slightly toasted, I dunno) and other than the copious amounts of Garlic it was decent. Fresh Basil, tomatoes, etc... but still not great. So far this place was getting clobbered by any chain restaurant I've ever been to...sad. On to dinner....my GF had Gnocchi, and I had Brascioli. Not what I would call bad, but not good, either. My main issue with the entrees (and hers, too) was that they were bland. I hate to say it but I've had better sauces out of a jar. At home. That I got at the grocery store. Did the truck with the seasonings not show up? or was that really the recipe? Not sure why we did it, but we thought maybe they would redeem themselves on dessert. Nope. She had a Cannoli and I got Panna Cotta, both desserts they make there. Her Cannoli was so over-cooked (hard) that she actually cut the inside of her mouth on it, and while the Panna Cotta gave me no injuries, I kept looking around for a life-jacket for it...it was positively drowning in the Berry sauce. The service was ok, and though they did ask once or twice how things were, we didn't complain. Generally we don't, because here's the hard part: I work in restaurants....have for over 20 years, she did for over 10, so we try to be sympathetic. Honestly I hadn't even planned on writing this review, (figured we just wouldn't go back, and that would be the end of it) but the indigestion I got later made me change my mind.

Very disappointed in the absolute lack of customer service! My husband stopped by after a long day of Christmas shopping to place an order and bring it home. Turns out that they decided tonight they would not "do" take out orders!! Really?? It's THAT hard to make food, and provide it to a paying customer...who isn't even going to dirty your table, plates or silverware?! Shame! We've been customers for over 7 years celebrating birthdays, special events etc. We will not be back.

Our favorite neighborhood restaurant--and we are not alone! Great food, great wine, great people. You can eat inexpensively by choosing pasta or chicken; the nightly specials will run up the tab. Wedding soup and bread and ravioli and lasagna are made on premises by Mama & Papa Scali. Their son Frank is the chef and wine guy. There's likely to be a special bottle or two not on the menu--just ask. Panna cotta and tiramisu are also homemade. I've never had a mediocre meal here! Lunch is served on Thursday and Friday--a great bargain. Once you have eaten their lasagna or spinach-cheese ravioli, you will NEVER order them again at Olive Garden!

You wouldn't believe your eyes upon entering Scali Ristorante. A hidden treasure located in a run down strip, Scali Ristorante is Italy in Reynoldsburg. A family owned restaurant run by first generation immigrants, Scali Ristorante offers up the first bite of real Italian food you've ever eaten. This is not a cooperate Buca di Bepo. This is not greasy red sauce and overly salty bread. This is real food, with real and fresh ingredients. I can't tell if the setting and decor influences the food, or if the food increases the atmosphere. The owners have really captured the feeling of Europe with the crisp white linens, the beautiful mural of Italian architecture, and the open kitchen. Things are clean, and the seating feels both open and intimate, with conversation flowing easily. The food can be described as nothing short of amazing. The Alfredo sauce is thick and creamy. Heavy cream and butter linger on the tongue. Marinara sauce is delicate with refined flavor. It doesn't bite or scream for attention. The portions are appropriate though you might still take home a bag of left overs. Overall, this is the most pleasant dining experience I've had in some time. The owners are hospitable, and I noticed many regulars striking up conversation. If you are around the East Side and wanting a real Italian experience, I suggest stopping in Scali Ristorante for lunch or dinner.

This gets my vote for best Italian in Columbus (Note - I have not eaten at La Tavola). This is not upscale, fusion, bistro Italian. You won't find pretentious servers or dishes with fancy pants names and don't expect microgreens in your salad. What you will find is excellent, honest, simple food. Mama Scali works the front of the house and Papa (Frank) Scali is in the kitchen making some of the best fricking ravioli ever. All the food is good, but the ravioli is really where it's at. His ravioli florentine is delicious and I always make sure to ask what the special is that day. Frank will also help with a nice Italian wine to go with your meal. Prices are reasonable and the portions are big enough to have a yummy lunch the next day if you can keep yourself from eating it all. Be sure to MAKE RESERVATIONS for dinner or you might find yourself shit out of luck.

What an amazing meal! My parents, husband and I went to Scali's for dinner at 5PM. About a dozen people were waiting in their cars for the restaurant to open at 5PM....good sign. So, reservations are recommended. We started with the Cognac Shrimp appetizer and Antipasta.....very good. The bread is slightly dry peasant style....it is already brushed with garlic and olive oil. The bread was perfect for dipping into the Cognac Shrimp sauce. My hubby and I split the Cesar salad with anchovies. Dad had the Veal Marsala, Hubby the LuLu Pasta, Mom had the Veal chop (special) and I had the Veal Piccata. All the meals were excellent especially with the very good bottle of Chianti we had. However, next time, I will order the Veal chop because it was outstanding and add a child's fettucini alfredo. Our entree's came with pasta dressed in a very simple tomato sauce. We split the Berry Panacotta and should have gotten two....it was devoured and strongly recommended. Dad had an espresso which he was pleased with. Mom and I each had a glass of Limoncello. Trust me....if you never had Limoncello...treat yourselves. It is an Italian lemon cordial served ice cold and will make you very happy. Oh, the service was wonderful as well. The only criticism is our main courses did not arrive immediately together. They should have a bus boy or another server help bring food out all at once....no biggie though. Mom and I are already planning shopping trips to the Eastside so we have an excuse to go here for lunch. I plan on bringing friends here in the future. Enjoy!

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
