My wife and I came here for our anniversary - we had a great time! It's an outstanding date night restaurant. This is old Dayton at it's finest - it's dim, there's a cool old bar, and they stick fairly close to the classics on the menu. The clientele tends to be older and upscale. We started with the bacon-wrapped scallops; they were fantastic, truly the highlight of our meals. Crispy bacon, lightly fried on the outside, but very tender on the inside and beautifully done. The sauce with them was great as well - garlic, roasted pepper, and basil with butter. My steak was excellent, as were my wife's crab cakes. The chocolate cake was another highlight - very rich, very moist, with a nice raspberry sauce. A solid choice for a nice evening out.

My mother in law is originally from nearby Centerville and dining at the Oakwood Club is a special treat when we're visiting the area. The bar area is very clubby and looks like a terrific place to hang out and have a drink (we've never actually done that, only dinner - but if I lived nearby I'd want to try it.) I probably shouldn't admit it, but the bread at the Oakwood Club is my favorite part of the meal. They put some kind of buttery, salty spread on top of the warm bread and it's addictive. Not filling up on the bread is a challenge. My husband always enjoys the French onion soup and recommends it highly as an appetizer. I had a special steamed mussels appetizer the last time we were there and it was quite good. The husband also stands by the prime rib as fantastic and I know my brother in law loves the New York strip steak. I had the lamb chops and they were a reminder to stick to what Oakwood does best - steak. The lamb chops were gristley and I left them mostly unfinished. The sides are fantastic, though - I love the hash browns (I feel lucky to get to eat hash browns at dinner and these are crispy and delicious.) The one really important piece of advice I can offer is to get the walleye if they're offering it. It's not on the menu but is a frequent special. My father in law swears by it. The Oakwood Club is a bit pricey but worth the splurge for a special occasion.

My wife and I have been enjoying the Oakwood Club since before we were married. This restaurant is a true fine dining experience. The Oakwood Club steak is our favorite and thus we can't comment on any other entree. The Oakwood Club also accompanies their entree with tasty rolls and fantastic side dishes, including stewed tomatoes (to die for). This restaurant is particularly popular so you may have a wait at their inviting bar (not a bad thing). You will find the environment very pleasant with tables beginning to fill by about 5:30 or 6:00 pm most evenings. When our children were small, our parents would sit, such that my wife and I could visit the Oakwood Club nearly every Monday night (the smallest crowd). Desserts are available and quite good but there is a Graeter's Ice Cream Parlor just down the street and a Starbucks. By the way, seating is comfortable booths or various size tables over two main and one bar area. This establishment has a cozy / quaint feel ...a neighborhood quality.

Took my wife here for her birthday, we'd never been to have dinner, only bar, and had heard good things from friends and coworkers. It's a nice place but not super stuffy, and you can wear jeans - it's a good mix of folks having dinner with family, dates, and people just hanging out at the bar. The bartenders are always good, helpful with the wine and friendly enough. We put our names in, got to the bar, and as soon as the wine was in front of us we'd been bumped up since everyone else was at the bar and not ready to sit. Our server was nice, I got a blackened grouper with sweet potato hash browns, and my wife got the seared tuna. Mine was good, and the veg of the day, spinach, worked as it tied a somewhat southern theme together (veggies beware, lots of bacon in the spinach). Her tuna was good (although rare vs. med rare as ordered), but the sides with it didn't make much sense considering the Asian them of the tuna. So...she had seared tuna with wasabi, teriyaki, and ginger - along with a baked potato and spinach. Here's the catch - our server was nice enough, but we noticed that the person working the dining room stopped and checked every table but ours. Most manager do table touches to make sure people are ok, and we got skipped over every time. We noticed but shrugged it off - until on our way out - everyone else got a "have a good night" etc., but we didn't get a word, not even a passing glance. We're pretty much sticklers for customer service, and they missed the mark on that. Overall decent - I don't think we'd be back anytime soon.

I've always heard about the Oakwood Club but had never been. I went there for a work dinner. I really enjoyed the options on the menu. Seafood, steak, lamb, pasta combos. I got the fillet and it was wonderful but the side items stole the show. Sweet potato with Cinnamon butter!

The Oakwood Club is not really a club--anyone can enter the premises! This is the closest to a first-class English-style "pub" restaurant that you'll find in Ohio and possibly the USA (and I'm English). Situated on Route 48 (Far Hills Avenue) in Oakwood High Street, the Oakwood Club is relaxing, comfortable, low-lit, elegantly decorated and the service is exemplary. The food (steaks, prime rib, fresh seafood) and wine menus are superb and the prices reasonable (but not cheap). I visit the Oakwood Club one Friday every month for a few drinks at the bar before dinner, and my ONLY criticism is that the management needs to widen the range of bottled beers. Drinking the same ones gets real old.

My favorite restaurant in Dayton! Drop your misconceptions about the 'snooty' factor...they are very friendly here even if you're not a 'regular'. Yes, it's a bit expensive, but it is worth EVERY penny. I enjoy the low-lit, dark wood, romantic environment. Bread is warm, salad is fresh, dressings are homemade. I always get the petite surf & turf with twin filet mignon and shrimp scampi. Take a sip of red wine, dip that filet in the bernaise sauce and you're in heaven...oh, my goodness. The special of the day is always a good bet.

I almost gave the Oakwood Club 5 stars. This is a family favorite and I've eaten here hundreds of times, ever since I was a small child and ordered shrimp cocktail, followed by a cheeseburger, followed by vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce! Over the years, my tastes have changed and matured! Yet I am still a fan of beef and so I ordered my sentimental favorite last night: open face prime rib. This is a smaller slice of prime rib, served on a piece of pumpernickel rye bread and covered in Au jus. It was cooked to perfection- tender and flavorful! My husband ordered one of their specials: grilled salmon and shrimp, and he enjoyed it completely. My uncle and brother in-law both ordered the pan fried walleye and my sister ordered the veal francaisse and all enjoyed their meals as well. My reason for not giving the Oakwood Club 5 stars is that even with reservations they are slow to seat. Our waitress was prompt in taking drink orders but slow to take our food order. However once we ordered the food arrived in reasonable time. The Oakwood Club also has a policy that you should only plan on being seated at your table for two hours, but they will make adjustments if needed. Two hours can be plenty of time, yet when visiting with friends and family from out of town, that time can go quickly.

Where do I start?! I was actually pleased that we got a table right away. We were expecting a wait because it was 630pm. We ordered our drinks and the bacon wrapped scallops. We got our water and my husbands tea, I waited at least 15-20 mins for my glass of wine. The scallops were fine, but nothing special. I got the petite surf and turf with the filet medallions and fried shrimp. He got the New York strip. The salads were small and plain. The bread was good but too salty. My wine finally arrived after we finished our appetizer. The meals came, neither of our steaks were cooked properly. His was overcooked and mine was undercooked. I ate the first medallion, but sent the second one back because it was just too rare. Almost 10 mins later my steak came back, STILL undercooked! The waitress, Becky didn't seem concerned with whether or not we were pleased. She didn't even care to ask how it was after being "warmed up" I am an ex-server and I always tip 20-25% but I could not do that this time. We were celebrating his birthday and our wedding and were very disappointed. Will not be returning.

Three and a half...You expect to see Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra and SDJr holding court at the bar of this place. I like how festive it was decorated for Christmas, how packed it was on Christmas Eve, the old-schooliness of the atmosphere. They had quality liquors, great, experienced staff and the wait for a table was shorter than predicted. The food, not bad, not great and pricey. That said, I'd go again.

Although the Paragon offers a better steak dollar for dollar, Oakwood Club is not far behind. Much like the Paragon, Oakwood is an old-school steakhouse with excellent atmosphere, a fine wait staff, and top-notch bartenders. I've been dining here regularly (twice monthly) since 2000 and have never had anything go wrong. The operation is a well-oiled machine that flows smoothly regardless of the crowd. The only inconvenience we have ever suffered was a thirty-minute wait on a Saturday night when we arrived at 8 PM without reservations. But the bartenders and fellow regulars kept us well-entertained and added some lighthearted delight to our evening while we waited. To avoid crowds, consider a Monday or Tuesday visit. They are open late throughout the week and are always accommodating. I usually have the filet or the petite surf-n-turf with shrimp and the vegetable of the day. My significant other adores the Caesar with grilled salmon. The side options are typical traditional steakhouse fare and generally of high quality. With escargot to start and a punchy after-dinner drink to end, the experience is always pleasant without being stuffy. Over the past five or six years the wine list has noticeably improved and the monthly wine features have been very good choices that complement the menu well. It is a great place to become a regular. You will be treated well and recognized for your contribution to their success.

everything i ate here was great. a little expensive, but this isn't a place to go every weekend, so i wasn't bothered by the prices. our waitress was great. she even stayed after her shift was over just to chat with us. we told her we were just moving to the area and she gave us tons of advice about places to live and visit and eat around dayton and cincinnati. i will be going back soon.

This is the best place in Dayton for a business dinner. I have brought many clients to the OC over the years (including New York and SoCal foodies) and they have always loved the experience here. The traditional Ohio supper club atmosphere is unique. Great steaks. Not the place to go for healthy choices! Everyone talks about the Pine Club, but it's lesser known cousin the Oakwood Club is actually better. Service is great, wine selection is decent, the atmosphere is dark and very old school. Make sure you get reservations.

I've eaten at some wonderful steak houses across the country and I wasn't overly impressed with this, based on the price. The steak was good, not fabulous. Let me elaborate. Our server was delightful and attentive without being obtrusive or invasive. She made sure we had drink menus and a thorough explanation of items that were substituted on the menu. My recollection is that the walleye was replaced with a mahi-mahi. I ordered the petite filet (6 oz.) with wild rice. The steak was done properly and was tender but around a couple of the edges, just a bit charred. It didn't ruin the taste but at the price, approximately $35, I really do have an expectation that it be perfect. The portion size was accurate, the wild rice was flavorful and the salad fresh but not overdone. The decor is a bit dated with the booth tables made from formica. The inside has low ceilings and lots of wood paneling, reminding a bit of a cross between a midwest steak house and an old English pub. They've definitely put as many tables in there as is humanly possible and it tends to be a bit crowded but the noise level wasn't a detriment to conducting a serious business discussion. If I would compare this to the Bull and Bear (Waldorf-Astoria in NYC) or Morton's (numerous locations) it's slightly below those. I'm definitely willing to give this place another go around when I'm back for business and did enjoy the meal. The next time, just a little more attention to detail on the edges of the steak (done, not charred).

One of the best steak houses in town. I prefer over all of the ones south in Cincinnati. The location is great and the atmosphere is perfect whether your there for a work dinner or on a date. The service staff is very knowledgeable and tentative. Best sea bass I have ever had I high recommend. Also the steaks are outstanding and always cooked to perfection. Have never had a bad dish or experience and have always left very satisfied.

One of the best steaks I've had so far in Ohio. Maybe all time. The atmosphere is warm and dim lit. It is for sure an upscale place and, as it was described to me, "lots of old money there". It took some time to get seated but it was definitely worth the wait, but not an issue since we could have a couple drinks at the bar. I definitely recommend it.

Wanted to eat here but the wait was almost 2 hours! Smelled very good. Extensive menu. Small restaurant.

Mm! Tasty steak. Also, there as a six-top table next to us of the most utterly charming very old men who were talking about how gobsmacked they were by the gay rights issue that is on the front page news. They were of the opinion that it was just silly to make such a fuss - of course everyone should have equal rights to marriage! I'll be honest - not the conversation I was expecting when I first glanced at that table, but more power to Oakwood for attracting such grear clientele.

Be prepared to wait over an hour in cramped surroundings for a table on the weekend. A previous reviewer mentioned standing awkwardly while shuffling out of peoples way until a seat at the bar opens up. Yeah that pretty much sums up the waiting experience. Not taking reservations for a party of 2 at these prices with cramped uncomfortable waiting areas... Not acceptable. Seated at a booth with a table that is right up on you with barely any room to move around. You can't even rest your feet on the floor they have to be propped up on the bottom of this table stand which is 4 inches thick. Not comfortable. I looked around and saw that every table was like this.... OK fine. As long as the food is good... Waitress was slow and unfriendly. Didn't even bother going through what specials there were. Wine and beer selection was very good I would say. Had to ask for drink refills. Fine... whatever... as long as the food is top notch I can handle all this and more. At least the menu gives you lots of options. Blue point oysters arrive first. Not cold. Not fresh tasting as advertised. Bleh... French onion soup arrives next. Average. Nothing to write home about. Caesar salad arrives next. Terrible. Literally the worst I've ever had. Bread finally comes out... Poppy seed rosemary with plain jane butter. It's no sourdough but it's OK. Other one was pumpernickle I think. Meh... Main courses arrive next. The veal was good. The linguini it came with taste like dishwater. My date had shrimp pasta and filet medallions. She let me try some and honestly it was very good. I should have ordered that! Desert menu was nothing crazy the standard boring stuff you always see. Carrot cake, cheesecake, creme brulee, key lime pie YAWN.... decided to call it a night. Damage: $120. Not the worst deal ever but at that price for what you get out of it. Nope! Would not return. J Alexanders would be a better deal at that rate.

Bacon wrapped scallops? Delicious. Medium rare filet mignon? Delicious. Atmosphere? Delightful. It's like the Pine Club except newly remodeled and the food is a little less expensive. Their website states that reservations are for parties of 5 or more, so two of us walked in on Saturday night. The ambiance was very nice: low lighting, pleasant interior. However, it was so crowded I felt a little claustrophobic. We put our name down for a table and were told it would be an hour. Every table was taken, there were small walkways, and no seats at the bar. We stood around awkwardly for 20 minutes or so and had to keep moving out of people's way. It didn't take too much effort to get our drinks though, and they were very good. Finally we were able to sit down at the bar. There were water vases at the bar filled with (instead of water) Goldfish, pretzels, and peanuts. Our table became available right on cue after an hour wait. Dinner went very well. The service was good, and the food was great. A basket of bread comes out before the meal. I would definitely go again. My only complaint was the tight quarters and not being able to make a reservation.

Probably one of the best dines in Dayton. I've been here 20+ times and it always impresses me with its consistency. The mood is low light, accompanied by a full bar with 25-30 seats and plenty of tables to dine. It is upscale/casual, you can get away with wearing jeans as long as you look dapper. The food is top notch. The steak is my favorite, cooked just the way you ask and is served with two sides of your choice (7 items tops) and a salad (house ranch is the best I've ever had). You won't leave here feeling hungry. The menu features beef and chop specials, seafood, oakwood club specialties, and light entrees. You will find something that interests you here. The dining experience will definitely pull you in for another drink or two as well. The locals and the history of the Oakwood Club make it one of the must go-to restaurants in the Dayton area. If you're on your first date or 100th -- this is the place to go.

truly an amazing restaurant! The atmosphere is wonderful and the service is extraordinary. I've lived in oakwood for a few years now an this has got to be one of the best restaurants I've been to in the Dayton area! Their steaks are wonderful, but my personal favorite is the truffle mashed potatoes! If you go, I truly recommend you try them! You should defiantly go there if your ever going through Oakwood!

I didn't get a chance to eat here because the person who answered the phone basically told me not to come. I was in town for a couple of days for a funeral and asked if I could sit down at the bar and order food because I didn't want to take up their tables. I get a prompt, "oh the waitress is busy, you can't order food." I replied " So I need a table?" The gentleman says yes, but no tables til 8:30. Thanks Oakwood for making a traveler feel welcomed in your town. Maybe next time you should advertise "ONLY LOCALS WELCOMED" I took my money to Roost where they actually appreciated my patronage.

I don't eat here often but its a great place. This is one of my favorite celebration/special occasion places. We arrived early (5:25) on a Friday. Luckily they had a booth by the bar. As we were seated we realized we still had our coats on but they quickly offered to check them for me and brought me the tag #. I love the low light retro classy ambiance here(hello Don Draper?). My martini was ice cold and perfectly mixed. We asked to be left alone to enjoy our drinks for a while and they did just that. I would have enjoyed some bread or snacks as we relaxed though. I went with the medallions of beef and she the scallops. Now to me the scallops were a bit chewy but she loved them. My dish was wonderful. Perhaps presenting it on a plate vs a small dish would better let the beef show through the sauce . The house dressing is amazing and the garlic mashed potatoes are great. My side of veggies was simple and tasty but got cold very quickly. We ate so much bread with the salads that we were too full for coffee and desserts. Id love to come back and just have an app , bread, salad and drinks....leaving room for dessert.

Good food, but don't be surprised at your super high blood pressure after the overload of salt they put on everything! A whole lot of salt does not flavor make.

Date night...very special date night as hubby has been house bound for about 6 weeks, and there was no question this is where he wanted to go! It's become our restaurant of choice over the past year. Never mind we spent the last 20 years ignoring it until someone gave us a gift certificate last Christmas and we "rediscovered" it. The majority of the time I go for the Chef's special...last night it was veal with cranberries and walnuts over wild rice. So good. Whenever possible they use local fresh ingredients, and I'll always remember the Cucumber Soup and Fresh Tomato brushetta from last summer. Oh...and the pineapple salsa over Lake Erie Whitefish (and they've never had it since). Everything I have here is wonderful. Waitress always kids hubby because he orders the same thing...he say's if you find perfection why stray? Now she makes recommendations for him, and when he agrees he expanding his horizons too and finding new favorites. Return factor: 100%. Life is good.

Celebrated a family birthday here & enjoyed the classy, cozy ambiance. Homemade salad dressings (try the garlic), fresh bread assortment (loved the rye bread), and excellent onion rings. Prime rib, petite filet, & porterhouse steak all got rave reviews. Rainbow trout good, not great. Prompt service & great menu with varied choices & prices. Extensive wine selection. Highly recommend for fine dining experience in Dayton! One of the best around town.

My family has been going to the Oakwood Club for years to celebrate special occasions, and the food never disappoints. I love the potato crusted sea bass and their tangy house dressing. Be sure to make reservations if your party is big enough or go early because it does get quite busy, but it adds to the small town atmosphere.

Gosh, this is another 3 and a halfer. It was good but not stellar. Bumping it up to 4 because I would return. Let me set the mood... The interior is dark and steak-housey with dimly lit lighting and a somewhat intimate atmosphere. The plasticish booths threw me off a bit but I came for the steak not the interior decorating choices. When we were there (a monday night) the place was hoppin'. It was crazy busy and honestly the service reflected it a bit. Servers were running everywhere but I thought it was great that they helped one another out. The bussers were a little less than enthusiastic and spent more time chit chatting than really busting booty like the servers. Overall though, service was nicely paced and I didn't feel rushed at all. At the same time I didn't feel like I was waiting forever for my meal either. Bread was pretty good. The brown bread had more salt than the dead sea so I would steer clear of that carb. The salad was pretty mediocre. Pretty purple cabbage pre made greens. If it doesn't come with the meal you choose then skip it. The steak was absolutely divine. Huge portions! My hubby and I both left with lunch for the following day. I really loved that the steaks came with sides (Ruth's Chris and Morton's do not...boooo!) Dessert was great (we had the creme brûlée). The one bummer? We were celebrating my husband's birthday and when I made the reservation I informed them of that. The gentleman on the phone made it pretty obvious that they don't comp desserts and offered a candle in the one that we purchased. I thought that it was slightly lame that they couldn't even offer a scoop of ice cream with a candle in it. I can't imagine that they encounter too many people that commit birthday fraud and even so a scoop of ice cream costs about a quarter. I was ok with that but they at least could have acknowledged his birthday. I had to suggest to my husband that he use the bathroom in order to pull the waitress on the side and ask for the complimentary candle. That was a little lame too. Honestly, I think I am being slightly generous with 4 stars but the food really is pretty good. Overall though, we had a very nice experience and would likely be back.

I came here for a work dinner a little while back and it was the perfect venue to entertain coworkers or clients. The menu was filled with traditional steakhouse fare and the dark classy ambiance added to the experience. The waiters were very knowledgeable and didn't try to up-sell even when they knew we'd be paying with a Corporate card. The filet was excellent - perfectly cooked and it went well with many of the sides that we ordered for the table. There were 10 of us at the table and I didn't hear a single complaint about anyone's meal. I will definitely be stopping back here if I ever find myself in Dayton again, especially if I don't have to use my own credit card!

Love the comfy bar stools and the calamari is delicious. The wine list is decent but needs on be changed more frequently, especially since it says "Wine of the Month"....we go there frequently and would like more change on this list :)

A classic country club-atmosphere restaurant, with absolutely the best steak you can find. Also fabulous: the lamb chops, and fresh fish/seafood selections. We've been going there 20 years, and never had a disappointment. The seasonal specials -- like Copper River Salmon -- are beyond five stars. Owner uses fresh, local whenever possbile, especially with veg. This is family owned for two or three generations. There usually and hour or two waiting list on Friday/Sat for peak time, so call ahead. If you're looking for metro-trendy, this isn't your place. But if you like wonderful top quality ingredients prepared to perfection, you'll be richly rewarded. If you can imagine a Morton's or Ruth's Chris that is family owned and less expensive -- this is your place. PS: portions are good sized, and salads and sides are included. Excellent value.

Ok the place is a bit crowded but not too bad. The food was pretty damn fantastic. I has Parmesan crusted chicken atop a bed of fettuccini. Excellent. Dad had filet mignon and shrimp. Baked sweet potato with cinnamon butter. Excellent. Mary had filet and shrimp. Excellent. Krista had beef tenderloin medallions. Excellent. Trent had a 10oz filet. Excellent. I had French onion soup. Not too salty or cheesy. Excellent. Coffee was excellent, too. They had Samuel Smith's Nut Brown Ale. Fan-damn-tastic. Ok the place is a bit crowded but not too bad. My Mom and her husband really enjoy coming here and are out of towners so they look forward to eating here. So when I was in town with her and she suggested it I was excited to try the place. The atmosphere was very unique. It's an older restaurant with a sophisticated upscale feel. Almost old-fashioned, yet appropriate old-fashioned. The food was just okay for me. I had the Lemon Cod which wasn't bad. The veggie that night was green beans but they were a little salty and the stewed tomatoes which I tried since that's not a typical menu item seen elsewhere were way too sweet for my taste. All in all I wouldn't rush back to this establishment but I also wouldn't refuse another experience here. Service was great!

Classic Midwestern restaurant throughout - decor, menu, wait staff, regulars at the bar. Great place for beef - partner's bone-in filet was perfectly prepared . My lamb chops were great. Stewed tomato side was as good as it was unique. Good wine selection. I wish that I live closer - could be my "regular".

The oakwood club is my favorite restaurant in the Dayton area. The food never disappoints and is delicious! My favorite dish is carpaccia. The only place I have been able to find that serves it. I am not a fan of chain restaurants and I am very picky about how my food is prepared. My only complaint is if you get there past 5pm on the weekend be prepared to wait. It's well worth it even with the wait!
