I've only been here a few times, but everytime I've gone I have been pleasantly surprised at the experience. The food is prompt and much better than you would expect from a small tavern in the little village of Newtown, especially the pizza, which has been recognized in the top 25 in Cincinnati on a regular basis. The beer selection isn't as good as the nearby Flipdaddys, but it does taste like it is nice and fresh, especially the Mt. Carmel (which is brewed about five minutes down the road). The service is friendly and willing to let you make your own liqour drinks. The interior is a bit run down, and the atmosphere is a bit lacking, but the five star shines through this due to the amazing value of this place. I went just to drink one night, having 4 beers, 3 custom mixed drinks (middle tier liqour), and my bill was a mere $22.00 (on Friday night!). The same would have been an easy 50.00 downtown. It's not the classiest place to drink, but the value and surprising food sets it apart.

Village Tavern (and Village Pizza, connected to the bar) has the best pizza in Cincinnati. No joke. Pizza is my favorite food (I'm quite the gourmet), and I've never had a bad pizza there. This is not one of those fancy pizza parlors with crazy toppings (although they do have plenty of "specialty" pizzas, I just don't think they are too "out there"), but their pizza is just consistently great. The crust is similar to LaRosa's traditional crust, and they cut it into squares. Why are pizza squares so much better than triangles? The sauce has great flavor and they are not shy about the cheese. My husband and I usually order a large mushroom and pepperoni, and take the uneaten half home to eat cold for breakfast. I swear it might be even better cold. The fried pickles are also great, served with homemade, delicious, incredibly fattening ranch dressing. During any televised Reds' game, you can get dollar domestic drafts. It is a small bar with four tables in the bar area and several more in the back room. The ambiance isn't great, but I'm just there for their delicious food, friendly service, and affordable prices.

Wow I completely agree with Jennifer G. For the standard pizza category: Newtown Village Tavern is the best pizza in Cincinnati. They don't do crazy gormet style pizzas... but if you want just a regular supreme pizza or pepperoni or whatever you like, this is the place to go. I also really like that they have a few local beers on tap, always good to see local supporting local. The staff was super friendly and open to new people even for being a local spot and they were quick with the pour and happy to assist with whatever we needed. We will totally be back: to sit on the patio, enjoy a nice cold Mt. Carmel brew on tap and split a pizza.

My favorite pizza in the world is Turoni's pizza in my hometown of Evansville, Indiana ( turonis.com ). It comes on a thin, crisp, cracker-like crust. And the toppings are always delicious. I have found it a little hard to find a similarly delicious pizza since moving to Cincinnati three years ago. So it was while I was monkeying around on Google Maps looking for a pub/bar/burger joint somewhere near my house that I discovered the Newtown Village Tavern. Quickly referencing Yelp to see if this was a location I should visit, I was surprised to see the rare overall 5 star rating, as well as raves about their pizza. Better check it out. This is a tavern. There is no other way to explain it. It's small, but cozy. In the main area there were only 3-4 tables (besides the bar) but there was another seating area in the back with a handful of tables. My wife and I sat at the end of the bar and were waited on quickly and efficiently and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. They had a pretty fair beer selection. I had Moerlein IPA and my wife had the special which was $1 Miller Lite, served in a small plastic cup (not the IPA, just the Miller Lite). They also had some Mt Carmel Brews, a couple seasonals, a couple imports, and the usual domestics. This was just the draft selection. We ordered fried zucchini, which was pretty much just as you would expect. Fried zucchini, although the batter tasted like maybe it had some parmesan cheese mixed in to it. Enjoyable. But really, the payoff was in the pizza. I can't put my finger on exactly what made this pizza so good. They only offer thin crust, but it wasn't the crispy-thin of my favorite pizza joint. We ordered a medium with ham, sausage, banana peppers and black olives. The toppings were toppings, not the best I've ever had, but above average. The sauce used was tasty, but I really feel like it was the cheese, which seemed richer than most cheeses. Also it didn't seem inundated with the usual amount of grease. Whatever it may have been, it was absolutely delicious. I would heartily recommend checking out this place if you live even vaguely nearby. I guess some people might be put off by its size, as it is definitely a "neighborhood" joint, but it was very clean and family friendly. I absolutely love the feel of places like this, where conversations can be held at a comfortable volume and both the food and drink are delicious and reasonably priced.

Decent pizza, and obviously some local regulars including the town cop. About 8 beers on tap, maybe 1 local. Nice local watering hole, but not really a top notch classy kind of place, but it's not trying to be. Want a nice pie and a beer, it's a great spot. Not the best pizza or beer it town, but it'll fill your void. Spend local.

I live in Philadelphia but my boyfriend is from the area so I've been here with him dozens of times when we visit. I dream of this pizza constantly it is so amazing. The jalapeño poppers are really good too. I can't tell you how good this pizza is. I feel like a school girl with a major crush that's how much I daydream about this place.

Decent food, low prices, HORRIBLE SERVICE!!! Constantly have to pester the waitress to get anything. Need a refill? Better ask because they will walk right past you without looking twice, they love their regulars though and give them all the attention. Ordered a beer, it took ten minutes to get it. Asked for popcorn, never got any. Ordered an appetizer, it came out with the food. Very frustrating

Tried for first time. Ordered 2 pizzas and they were ok. Very busy on Friday night and clearly popular. Pizza crust seemed tough and tomatoes sauce wasn't great. Decent value but not our favorite. May retry in future to see if it was a fluke with crust.
