This was a really fun place to start the day! Fancy this, we've lived minutes away for two years and had never dropped by until as fate would have it, we were moving away from the area. Go figure! One reason we had never stopped by was the reviews, coupled with my Husband's initial impression when we first moved here, when he merely stuck his head in the front door to look around and didn't think I'd like it. That was really too bad, because this place has a lot of charm in it's old fashioned simplicity. I really enjoyed the interior! It was divey, clean, out of the ordinary, comfortable warm and humble all at once. Little touches here and there let you know someone, at one point or another, really loved this place. Freshly made bread greets you when you walk in on a little table, presumably part of the salad bar. Their salad bar has the most delightful looking features, including homemade sheet cakes and more. Quite charming, really. We dined in for breakfast, and my family sampled their waffles and typical breakfasty fare, reporting it delightful. The waffles were nothing out of the ordinary, batter wise, but were very enjoyable or so I heard! I was really impressed that they served freshly made strawberry jam with their toast. I just really enjoyed the charm of it all, that, and our server was so very sweet. This place seems to take pride in hiring quality people, which I always appreciate and see as a good sign. I highly encourage you to go check them out! Come expecting a taste of the past and you won't leave disappointed.

We treated ourselves to the Carriage Inn yesterday for lunch and as always, the food was delicious. Constant companion had the broaster chicken dinner and I, the liver and onions. Both meals were wonderful. The thing we like about this place is the fact that the food is consistently good, well seasoned and served hot. The service is always prompt and friendly, something we find more at family owned restaurants than the Olive Gardens of the world. We will definitely be back the next time we are in town.

Update: My mom and I stopped here for dinner last weekend while I was in town. It was quite busy with the Sunday post-church crowd still wrapping up so we were eager to get fed once we finally got seated. Then I saw it, those individually packaged Smucker's jams and jellies; you know, like the ones they have at Bob Evans? In a moment of panic I turned to my mom and pointed, "Mom, do you think they got rid of the homemade jam and apple butter?" "Of course not, don't be silly," my mom replied. I looked around at the other tables hoping that she was right, that those were just there for the people who ordered off the menu instead of he all-you-can-eat chicken dinner, but there wasn't any homemade jam in sight. I sighed and grabbed one of the apple butter packets to spread on my biscuit but my mom was in denial. She tracked down our waitress to see if she could bring us some homemade jam. "Sorry," she said, "we no longer serve the homemade jam." She went on to tell us that the place recently came under new ownership due to the previous owner having some health issues and for that I am truly sorry. But I honestly don't know if I'll be returning until the take the Smucker's off the table. Our waitress (same women who has waited on us for years) made it very clear that we were not the only ones with this concern and, in her opinion, the lack of jam was a true travesty. What a shame.

Met a friend of the hubby for early dinner here. Our server took our orders quickly and we hit the salad bar. The regular salad was sad, iceburg lettuce, a few carrots and NO tomatoes. The rest of the offerings were good; I had cole slaw, beets, macaroni salad and pickled cucumbers. We all had chicken and dumplings; very good and the fried apples on the side were tasty as well. Not a hip kind of place, but a good pick for comfort food and good service.

Well..... The first time I went here for breakfast with my girlfriend, about a year ago now, I could not believe how good it was. The eggs were perfectly over easy. The bacon was crispy, as I had asked for. The potatoes, which need to be really, really crispy, were phenomenal. I thought I had found the breakfast for which I had been seeking. Next breakfast trip: Not quite as good, but still tasty. Side trip for chicken dinner on Sunday: Did not tell my girlfriend this, but...what's all the fuss about? Chicken was ok. I was expecting golden crunchy chicken! Not really. It was good, the mashed potatoes were...ok.... So back to my last -- really my last -- breakfast: Eggs were ok. Bacon was cooked about half, though I can't order bacon or potatoes without "well done" coming out of my mouth. Bacon tasted odd too; maybe that was just me. Potatoes? I could have cooked them better with a Bic lighter. To say they were warm through was generous. So maybe I just got a cook on a bad day. Except, the days for the cooks have gotten worse in my four visits in about a year. Thinking this may be the kind of place where if you're feeling lucky........could be a good day for you.
