Good italian food. Big, kinda weird, smells old. Try the La Scala bread.

Ok, my husband and I went to try La Scala for Restaurant week and we were very disappointed. The meatballs with garlic bread were terrible. The meatballs were not seasoned (and we are by no means salt lickers) and mushy. The garlic bread were soggy from sitting on top of the meatball sauce. The three course meal we had were not the worse but not the best either. I had the calamari and the presentation were horrendous. With the marinara and garlic sauce globed right next to one another. The entree of fettuccine alfredo di mare was a disappointment. The mussels were not cleaned thoroughly and we both could taste sand in our dish. The dessert of rum cake..tasted like something from a box. The service was poor. I will not be going back again. Save your $ and go to Buca Di Beppo, their chain Italian food is more authentic than La Scala.

I hosted a corporate celebration in the private dining area. The planning staff was great to work with and made the process easy. The team working the night of the event was friendly and ensured everything ran smoothly. The food is not the greatest, but it was a fun environment and reasonably priced. If you are looking for a casual private dining area I would recommend La Scala.

This is an expensive place with mediocre food. The calamari was pretty flavorless by itself. The Filet I got was fine, but nothing special: definitely not worth the money. The Spaghetti Pomodoro had terrible meatballs and overcooked pasta. On top of that, the service was mediocre even though I went with someone who worked there. This is place has unmemorable food, bad service, and high prices for what it is.

I have to admit I was a little apprehensive to try La Scala. I've heard the rumors. Have you? It seems silly now, but a long time ago (late 90's) I'd heard it was run by the mob, and there would often be car-break-in sprees during weddings and such. I also heard the food wasn't good and the inside was gross. Well! While still built for events ("on this, the day of my daughter's wedding"), things seem much improved and less scary. Upon a brief chat with our waitress, we found out that La Scala has been under new ownership since August 2009. A few Yelpers have mentioned that the interior seemed dated. I didn't think it seemed dated-- I rather liked the artwork. It's juuuuust that side of cheesy italian (not as over-the-top as Bravo, but along the same themey vein), and when you consider the massive space they were working with, I have to give them kudos on creating an intimate atmosphere in such a large space. I came here with my parents about 30 mins before the kitchen closed on a Tuesday night. We decided to sit on the patio. While the view was just of the parking lot and busy street... it was still really pleasant. The weather was amazing, and things were pretty quiet. It had been a long day-- and we came to La Scala just to share a couple of the wood-fired pizzas. We got the Artichoke Florentine and the Italian Sausage 'zas. The crust was delightfully crispy, though I thought a tad on the dense side, and the pie tasted a tad salty overall. It definitely tasted wood-fired though-- the working oven is showcased right in the front of the restaurant. The Peroni beer, perfect weather, nice patio, and good pizza after a long day was relaxing and soothing. No mafia encounters, either. So that's a plus. Everyone kept all their fingers. I was torn between giving this place a 3 star rating and a 4... not that a 3 is bad! I still recommend coming here, which is why I went with the 4. I especially recommend giving this place another shot if you've been scared away in the past. I'm sure we will be back to try other items on the menu besides the pizza.

We really like La Scala, and I was surprised about the awful reviews on Yelp. Yes, the food is a bit bland and predictable, which I think explains why it seemed like most everyone in the restaurant was over 50. (Is that age-ist?) Well, anyway, we felt a bit out of place. But it was a great ambiance, and pretty low-key, quiet, with nice music and decor. Excellent service, timely and attentive. They have Sunday Pasta Specials for 9.95 which is a great deal. You get lots of food, and I think it is much better than Olive Garden. Also, the Lunch Buffet is pretty huge and delicious. But watch out- they're closed on Mondays.

Took a date to dinner at La Scala last night. It had been a while since I've been there and doubt I'd go back. Great atmosphere with the piano player & decor but the food was terrible. Got a shrimp & scallop dish that was an absolute abomination. The worst meal I've ever been served. The shrimp & scallops were over cooked, the pasta & sauce a watery mess that was dumped on top. I barely touched the meal & the waitress cleared my plate without inquiring as to why. Waited forever for the bill while we sat & watched her chat with staff at the bar. Definitely not a great experience, lots of better options in the area.

Ok, let me start off by saying that I have noticed some bad reviews of this restaurant. These people are out of their minds. This food is incredible. Trust me, I have good taste. The entree specials are incredible. My favorite being the Gnocchi is rich, creamy, and portions are huge! Their pizza is incredible, very classy and high end tasting. The prices are great too. Great for families and great for events. I eat at this restaurant all the time. I have no complaints. The ambiance is awesome. The staff is friendly and their buffet is incredible for the price you pay. My wife is a very picky eater, and she loves this place. That says a lot. Give it a try, you will not be disappointed. The people who give this place a bad review are all wrong.

Snotty Servers and poor service! I have been there 3 times now, each time the same. If the servers don't know you, they don't even try. Free bread? Really, never for me! Come in business clothes and have money, they serve my drinks warm. They better step it up and cater to new clientelle or they'll be out of business.

I went here at lunch time once with a group of coworkers. This place is huge, nicely decorated and has a really nice atmosphere over all. We all decided to do the lunch buffet, which was pretty good. Several salads, a couple soups, some pastas (some are consistent every day, some vary), a special that varied and a couple dessert choices. Most everything was really good, and it was all under $10, which was nice. One thing that was a little disappointing was that nothing at the buffet line was labeled, and both the members of the wait staff i spoke to seems to have limited knowledge of what the food choices out there actually were.

The food was not bad, not great. I would say equal to an Olive Garden. Prices are pretty good too, again along the lines of an Olive Garden. Our experience with the service was poor. I wanted give the busboy (a 16 year old kid) our tip as apposed to our middle aged waitress. He cleared out plates and filled out drinks AND asked if we needed anything else after our meals came out. He was much more attentive then our actual waitress. We also had to wait quite some time for our food to come out, but the place was pretty busy. All in all a solid 3 stars. Nothing to write home about.

I just ordered takeout from La Scala. My food was done within 15 minutes and was well-packaged and hot when I picked it up. I ordered the veal parmesan and thought it was merely okay. The portion size was generous, and included a side of spaghetti. However, it wasn't the most tender veal I've ever had. Am I in a hurry to go here again? No. I'd like to try out some of the other Italian Options in Dublin.

We attended the 2011 New Year's Eve party at La Scala, on Dec. 31. We chose to attend in the Caruso room with the Eddie Palino Band. Dinner was a 4 course meal with: caesar salad, Pasta Valentino, Beef Tenderloin and Shrimp Caruso, and Tiramisu. The room was packed with about 200 people in the room, seated in tables of 8. The tables were large enough that you didn't feel crowded and there was also enough room between the tables so that you didn't have to squeeze through. The dance floor was a little small for that many people, but everyone packed in and even danced in the areas between the tables. The highlight of the evening was the Eddie Palino band. They played a great mix of songs from the 60's to the 2010's and mixed up enough slow dances with faster paced numbers. The musicians performed very well, and the trio singing were very good. I'd give them 4 stars! They were a lot of fun to listen to and they kept things moving. My only complaint was that they stopped just after midnight. I would have liked to have stayed for more. The food was less spectacular. The caesar salad tasted like it was freshly prepared with large portions of parmesan cheese shaved on top. The Pasta Valentino was also very good. The portion was large and it was warm when served. The Valentino sauce was very much like a carbonara sauce and was very tasty. My Beef Medallions were also good. Tender and cooked medium, they had a brown gravy that was seasoned well and complimented the meat. Other people at my table were less impressed with the beef medallions. They said that they were tough and overcooked. The Shrimp Caruso was not very good. It looked like shrimp in creamed corn (and unfortunately, looked as though someone had thrown up on the plate). The shrimp were way overcooked and rubbery and the sauce didn't really have any flavor to it. Most people at my table did not eat their portions. The cheesy mashed potatoes that finished the main course had good flavor, but they were very runny. The Tiramisu was very nice as the final course for the evening and was very flavorful. Service was a mix. The waitress who took our drink orders was wonderful and kept up happy banter with us. It seemed as though she were the only waitress taking drink orders in the room, but she was as prompt as could be expected with that large of a room. The assisting wait staff were mixed. Our water glasses were filled quickly and often. Overall, we had a very nice time at La Scala (this was our first time there for the New Year's Eve party). I was disappointed in the food as I had expected better quality and preparation from them. I doubt that we will go back next year.

I was pretty excited to go here for a company function because I love Italian food, however it didn't take long for disappointment to set in. I ordered the penne primavera which was more like under cooked pasta and vegetables swimming in olive oil and garlic...the best thing about the meal was the salad, water, and spumoni ice cream, thank goodness I didn't have to pay for my food. I don't think the phrase "free" will get me to return.

We went to La Scala last night to celebrate my boyfriend's grandmother's 90th birthday. Ninety years is a HUGE deal, so I was pumped to be a part of the celebration. We were expecting a nice, family gathering. Greg's family is always a blast to be around, it's nothing like you're typical family get-together. We booked a private room in the back of La Scala. Unfortunately, some highschool booked a Valentine's Day dance in the private room behind ours. All night, songs like Gold Digger, Get Buck, and Party Like a Rockstar literally shook the wall between our room and theirs. And every once in a while, we'd get a crazy flash from the disco lights. Let's be clear, Oma does not kiss girls, and she does not like Katy Perry. We asked the waitress if we could turn the music down several times with no luck. It was so sad, I have no idea what Oma or her three sisters said when they gave their toasts. And several times, drunken teenagers mistook our room for the bathroom and stumbled part way in before being ripped back into the hallway by their friends. Our waitress was not very nice. She left us sitting with just drinks for about a half hour. When we asked if we could get some complimentary bread to hold us over, she sort of snapped back with 'I'll be bringing it in a moment.' She never once apologized for the slow service, but she did give a few excuses throughout the night. PS, the family drink is a Manhattan. These Manhattans were embarrassingly small and weak. They might as well have come in shot glasses. The pace picked up after we ordered. It seemed like hardly any time passed before we got our entrees. Our waitress, luckily got a little help at this point in the meal. I couldn't believe that up until then, she had been expected to serve all twenty-five of us on her own. But the bad thing is that most of the servers smelled overwhelmingly liked cigarette smoke. Unappetizing. I got the Shrimp and Scallop Parmagiana. The shrimp was unfreshly fishy. The scallops were small and tasteless. The food definitely looked better than it tasted - except for Loren's which was drizzled in bright orange sauce. I didn't hear anyone who really said they loved what they ordered. Only one of us in my section of the table got dessert. When asked how the cheesecake was, Edan nicely stated, 'It's a B...' When we walked back out, through the main part of the restaurant, I thought the decor was nice. And there was a piano player that sounded pretty good playing a One Republic song. But, overall, this was a unfortunately bad experience. It was seriously like something out of an SNL skit, and all night, we kept reminding ourselves out loud 'This is real life. This is really happening.' Bad, bad, bad.

The best thing La Scala has going for it is the atmosphere and the predictability. Predictability is not a bad thing - some people only eat what they know, and La Scala certainly seems to cater to these clients. We visited La Scala on a Wednesday, and the atmosphere was very sedate. The clientele was elderly and quiet, and there was a pianoman playing stylized old love songs all night. The restaurant is quite large and has an interesting layout with a stage area, along with private and semi-private rooms alike. Our waitress was attentive, friendly, and had decent timing. The menu was extremely generic. All of your Italian favorites are featured here, and are not executed with anything remarkable to note. During the week, you can get a three-course meal for two for $30 - if you're interested in spaghetti and meatballs, lasagna, or eggplant parmesean. My partner ordered chicken parmesean with angelhair alfredo. The chicken was completely smothered in melted mozerella (maybe too much so), and the noodles were extremely buttery, but probably not house-made. I ordered veal picata. The veal was passable and the sauce was almost overpoweringly acidic. We both loved the mushroom bruscetta appetizer: a variety of mushrooms with herbs, sauteed in cream and parmesean, served with 4 toasted bread slices. We could've used more bread, but the dish was simple and elegant with perfect spices. Along with four drinks and a desert, our bill came out to $75. If you order the three-course meal or stick to the classics, you can dine here for a much smaller, decent price. La Scala is best described as SAFE. That's not really my thing, but I'm sure there are regulars who have a special fondness for their food and decor.

They had a function occurring on a Thursday and were completely under staffed in the restaurant. We decided to sit in the bar but after being ignored for 30 minutes decided to go to J. Liu's up the street. Reconsider eating here if the parking lot is full...

As far as presenting a food review, I cannot since we never received service let alone a meal. My wife and I went here to try someplace new for a late lunch. After being seated we continued to sit for 20 minutes without a server or even a water. Whether this was an error by an aloof hostess or disregard by a waiter who did not see enough dollar signs in our casual attire, it was enough for us to not make another appearance since that visit over 2 years ago.

Let's start with this. I can't say I hated the food... Food has to taste like something to hate it. I ordered the LA SCALA SPECIAL which includes: Spaghetti, lasagna, manicotti, meatball, and Italian sausage, covered with red sauce. One dish could have been another, as it was so bland. Even the sausage was disappointing. However, our waitress was nice, the drinks were quite tasty, and the prices were low (plus I had a 2 for 1). They also have a nice space there, which is probably good for banquets and weddings. But considering how many people told me how good this place was, I was really disappointed.

The review that mentioned Olive Garden was right. We went on a Sunday, when all the pasta entrees are $9.95. That's a fair price for what you get. The Beny salad was good (that was better than Olive Garden), and the ambiance is pleasant (service was OK, not great). Overall, it is fine, but I won't be going out of my way to go back soon.

Our party of 8 spent quite a bit a money for what I considered mediocre food. First, I ordered bruschetta, since I was quite hungry and had not been offered complimentary bread, which I found out was available, but not offered to us. The bruschetta was so disappointing. It was simply bread, tomatoes and cheese with no seasonings, onion, basil, and had no taste. Besides, it was brought to the table barely warm, so I sent it back because the cheese wasn't really even melted. It came back a little browner, but no hotter. Secondly, I order the veal parmesan, which is pricey, and was shocked how tough the veal was. It really was not a quality, tender piece of meat. Since my husband spent $80 plus tip, I felt very unsatisfied with the dinner. Other people in our party order the filet mignon and it was so undercooked it had to be sent back twice. I am hoping these comments will help you address some problems in your kitchen. I do not plan to try LaScala again.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
