Pretty decent barbeque and they have great sweet tea; so good, I have to cut it a bit with unsweet tea :) Staff have always been friendly when I've stopped in. With Graeter's next door for dessert, how can you go wrong?

Disclaimer: Shortly after I wrote my initial (one-star) review of this City Barbeque location, I was contacted by a member of the City BBQ corporate team. I was offered a $50 gift card and asked to give the Beavercreek location another shot. As such, take anything I say with an appropriate amount of salt. Jules and I used said gift card to grab takeout this week, after spending the majority of our evening cleaning up the house for our impending holiday celebrations. We ordered online, which was a smooth and seamless process. Both Jules and I ordered "City Samplers", which contained a sampling of most of the meats available on the City Barbecue menu. One of the unfortunate realities of barbecue restaurants is the likelihood of running out smoked meats. That happens--I understand it and respect it. And, given the fact that we ordered relatively late in the day (about 8:20 pm), the store was out of both brisket and smoked pork. That doesn't bother me, especially given the portions of turkey, sausage, and chicken we each were given. What does bother me is the inattentiveness of the service staff in serving these items. We stood for a solid 10 minutes in the restaurant at the counter before being served. While the gentleman at the "pick up counter" was on the phone (with another customer--not complaining here), at least two other staff members made eye contact with us, then promptly turned away. Foodwise, the aforementioned City Sampler comes with two sides. While Jules got both of hers, my applesauce was not included (which I didn't realize until returning to Englewood and unpacking the bag). Further, my chicken wasn't picked particularly well, and I found two large (and inedible) pieces of cartilage in among the meat. I'm really struggling to think of reasons to actually go to this City Barbecue location, which is anything but a good sign. With numerous other, better barbecue options throughout the Miami Valley, I'd give this place a pass.

Growing up in Cincinnati, Montgomery Inn will always be my favorite barbeque place, but City bbq is still really good. The pulled pork is great, the sides are delicious and the iced tea is amazing. It's great to eat out on the back porch in the summer. The prices and very reasonable and the service is fast. Great casual place for lunch or dinner.

Love city BBQ! Try to go here for lunch at least once a week. All the meats and sides are great. Service is fast and friendly.

It is a rarity that I revise reviews...in fact I think I have done it once in my hundreds of reviews but this place certainly deserves it. I initially gave it a 5 star shining review and after the past few visits it is down to a 2 and that is solely based on the food...Let's start with the only good part of this joint...the food. Their BBQ is delicious. My husband loves the brisket and I enjoy just about everything else. You can't go wrong with the pulled pork and chicken. Their sides are all delicious. I love their cukes in the summer and their potato salad is amazing as well. Their food is consistent and I like that. If you are a rib lover come early because I have been there on a number of occasions when they have run out. Onto the service...In my first review I raved about the friendliness and courteousness of the staff. Not any more. In fact, I have experienced downright rudeness. A few visits back a gentleman at the register was snippy and appeared to be in a terrible mood. He made me feel like a burden. I spoke with the manager about him and either they didn't care enough to talk to him or this guys just doesn't get it. Again tonight he was a jerk. He asked to take our tray and basically grabbed it before we took some of the remaining items off. When I asked him to wait (and I was nice about it) he rolled his eyes and shoved the tray back on the table. I told him we could get it ourselves and he walked off in a huff. As trivial as it sounds this really did make for a negative end to our meal. As we gathered our things to leave, and cleaned our own tray, I stopped by the front. I told the young girl at the counter that the guy out there was a jerk and based on his service it is possible that we would not return. She was silent and with a sugary sweet snarky tone said "Have a good night ma'am" and began to what appeared to be gossiping to another employee. As I turned around they both just stared at me. I used to work in customer service...let me tell you how I would've reacted..."I'm sorry for your negative experience. Would you like to speak to a manager?". I am not even going to waste my time calling to speak with one because this is now become the norm here. Poor service. Rude staff...and did I mention the plethora of gnats we had to shoo away during dinner. Sorry to say this 5 star establishment has plummeted...and they don't care.

Brisket sandwich was awesome, great bark and not too fatty. Used regular barbecue sauce, too chicken to try the spicy sauce, but it was a great nonetheless

Tried to order and three employees looked at me and walked away. One was even the manager. I guess they did me a favour because unhappy workers mean unhappy food.

Loved the BBQ favors - fall-off-the-bone ribs, juicy chicken, yummy green beans and Texas toast great too. Everything was tasty! First time but will be back.

We was there the other day. I had the Cowbells Sandwich and it was So So. good if you know what I mean not Great. Now I'll say the onion rings was Great! The service we got there was Very good last Monday. I haven't been to City BBQ in a long time because of WOODYS being down the street but they closed there doors so we didn't have time to go to Springfield to Rudy's or go to Warner's so we thought we would give them a second chance. I understand BBQ isn't easy to make it great or Awesome because you just can't rush it. It's just an ok in the amount of attention it gets and for the $ you spend the side items are just to small for the price. Oh and they Don't give Military Discounts like the other places I mentioned.

We always have very speedy and efficient service here. The portions are very generous and always have that delicious smokey flavor you crave in a good BBQ. I always get their gumbo which has sausage and brisket mixed in and sits on a bed of brown rice. (The rice wad a tad bit under cooked tonight, but that's never been a problem before. It's got the perfect amount of spice to it, and my bowl always ends up empty, way too fast! I also always get their turkey on Texas toast instead of the regular bun and it is SO good dipped in their hot BBQ sauce. The turkey is smokey, juicy, and full of flavor. Yumm, my mouth is watering again just writing this review. I can't get enough of this place.

I participated in an event catered by City BBQ and they did a good job. Sometimes catered food can be a real disappointment. But this wasn't! Was it the best BBQ I ever had? No, but it was pretty good. The protein and the sauces were really the shining stars!

I'm writing this review while waiting in a line that started out the front door, but I am not going to get it finished because the employees are keeping the line moving well! I know that I am getting pulled pork naked (without bun/texas toast), green beans w/bacon, and corn pudding as the sides for my wife. I chose pulled chicken naked, mac & cheese and corn pudding as my sides. I get to the front of the line and hear the person in front of me order corn pudding, which they were waiting to come up and would be about 15 minutes. My wife and son are in the car so I can't wait for beloved corn pudding and opt for the hand cut fries with malt vinegar. I grab my bag and am out to the car in 19 minutes. Well done City BBQ. They also do military discounts. Great place.

I love BBQ! ...and this is ok. I went for Veteran's Day 2014 as they were offering a free sandwich platter to vets. Thank you! I ordered the brisket with green beans/bacon and hush puppies. The amount of brisket was good, but definitely too dry. The green beans were over cooked. The hush puppies were good, but a little on the sweet side. I have had better BBQ in Dayton, but this one seems popular. Caio!

I'm always reluctant to go to a chain. Sure I make a few exceptions for "Local" chains, but this place has nearly 20 locations now. However, I remember eating at the original location back when it was the ONLY location, and I remember driving there from my apartment in Columbus to get delicious BBQ. The food is still just as good at basically any of the locations I've visited and I never have walked away unhappy (unless they ran out, which happens in the late evenings). The pulled pork is amazing, pulled chicken is tender and never dry, the sweet vinegar slaw is good... though I add a bit of the spiced vinegar to it, the fries are a huge portion so plan on sharing them. Go on Tuesdays for ribs that are about a buck a bone, and don't forget to pick up a cold beer or vintage soft-drink from the iced down beverage bins while you wait in line.

We really enjoy City BBQ. I enjoy the pulled pork, brisket and baked beans the most. The beans always have a chunk of brisket in them which makes it that much better. I've had their ribs (some cuts are better than others) and their peach cobbler which is just okay, but I got my "cobbler" fix. They have Rib Tuesday so you can get them for a good deal. The interior is decent and the service is good; but you go there for the food. Definitely a place we will miss when we move.

LOVE City BBQ! This was the first place my husband and I stopped when we were in town for a pre-move house hunting trip. We were tired and hungry and knew nothing about the place at the time. We've lived all over the country and have had several types of BBQ. City BBQ is outstanding. We have since been back many times. We also get it to go to take down to my parents and uncle in Cinti quite often. We've also used their catering for parties at our home. Their hams are a big hit for holidays (really wish they would have them more often). The employees are friendly, fast, and professional. The food never disappoints. They may seem a little spendy to some, but you get what you pay for and this is some quality grub. We are now 5 year loyal customers and don't stop for BBQ any place else in town. Thanks City BBQ!

Pretty delicious! The girl that helped me at checkout was super nice. The lunch sandwich was small, but I got sides and got more full than I thought.

What's not to like about this place? Prices are super reasonable, TONS of selection, and the cornbread pudding is to die for. Shortly before moving from the area I also discovered that they sold banana pudding which was also nom nom. We never had a bad meal there and trust me we ate there frequently. My favorite was the turkey with the mustard based BBQ sauce with pickles... Oh the pickles..... And the sweet tea.... Mmmmmmmm....

Meh is about right. Went here for a going away luncheon for a co-worker and was really looking forward to some good barbeque, it was not to be found here. Typically when you think of BBQ, it's a huge helping or meat with either it's own sauce or add your own, either way is ok with me. I ordered the brisket sandwich, greens, and baked beans. I was really a little shocked at how small the brisket sandwich was, like something you'd get at White Castle, more like a brisket slider. Small bun with three little slices of brisket, I took small bites to trick myself into thinking it was bigger. The greens were pretty decent, the baked beans on the other hand, not so much. The baked beans were in a sort of thick paste, it was not very appetizing. The only redeeming quality about the beans were some chunks of brisket hidden in the paste, I picked them out to supplement my sandwich meat. My wife and I had eaten here years ago and I remembered it being ok, my wife who is not really a fan of BBQ anyway, didn't have any good memories of it. As we were leaving, she gave me the "told ya so" line as I complained about how bad things were. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing, maybe it was a bad day for them, who knows. We probably won't be going back any time soon.

This place was a mixed bag for me. First impressions were favorable, as the alluring aroma of smoking meat wafted it's way over to my car as I parked. The space is done in country chic, with lots of distressed wood and a laid back vibe. The food just never made it past OK, and some of it was downright unappetizing. The pulled pork was the winner here for me, as it was nice and smoky with a moist texture. My husband thought it tasted off, but I didn't get that. The sides were not good, and I didn't like the ribs, so one dish does not a great BBQ restaurant make. The greens had so much meat in them they were more like a meat side with some greens mixed in. Weird. I don't mind pork in my greens, but this was overkill. The ribs were over cooked. I know that some folks like their barbecue "falling off the bone", but that means that the meat has spent too much time in the smoker. It had no chi (life force) at all. Maybe some of you think that's an abstract thing, but it's not...overdone is not palatable to me, and is hard to digest. The vinegar based cole slaw would have been good, but they added onion, and that was all I could taste. This is Cooking 101; do not put aromatics such as onion and garlic in anything that won't be consumed right away, as they will take over in a jiffy. They have some good ideas here, but the food isn't being given the respect it deserves, so I will be enjoying my barbecue elsewhere.

Good place nice atmosphere inside for a bbq place mac and cheese was good and creamy the sausage was really awesome and had a great taste to it. The brisket is good a little to moist for me I prefer more the TX dry taste. The sause was very good over all it was a good place to eat and good bbq not the best but good

I used to come here quite often when I lived in Fairborn but they have definitely changed for the worse. My husband got the ribs tonight and they were almost completely inedible. He could barely cut his way though the meat and a good 20% of what was on the bone was charred gristle. The hush puppies were fried to ashes. I ordered the turkey breast and while it tasted okay something was off about the texture. I realized afterwards that the meat had been cut with the grain which is a huge fault if you're claiming to be a good barbecue joint. We also got the cherry cobbler to split for dessert. I took 1 bite as did my husband ad that was all we could stomach. It was sickenly sweet and was closer to a bread pudding with cherry pie filling glopped on top than a crumbly fruity cobbler. The counter service was also decidedly lacking. Overall this pathetic meal cost $35. I will definitely not be returning to this location.

In town for a work trip and a colleague suggested it. I was a bit hesitant to try Ohio bbq but went with an open mind and ended pleasantly surprised. Quality bbq & quick, friendly service to top it off. Be sure to include the hush puppies as a side.

I've been to this location twice, both times the food was so delicious. Best BBQ style restaurant I have tried so far. We live out of town in NE Ohio, but we always talk about making a road trip down here to eat. Family member used to live in Dayton, that's how we came across City BBQ. Food is so flavorful, hot, and big portions, and the meat is tender. Lots of options choose from Can't wait to come back.

My husband and I tend to come here when in need of a large meal where we can take home a ton of leftovers. Which is why we get the family platter everytime. Hey if it keeps me from cooking every night I'm all for it. My only complaint is the consistently of their food. You can tell if its fresh from the pan or if its been sitting out awhile and needed to be warmed up in the microwave. I find their corn pudding to have this issue most of the time. It can be very dry, a little burnt, and doesn't taste very good. But if you can catch a dish of this when its warm, gooey, and fresh it's SO GOOD!

Overall, I've had pretty good experiences with City Barbecue. The brisket is my favorite meat to get on the menu, and I always ask for extra bark. It's the best part. I also like the smoked sausage with the vinegar slaw. Lastly, the chicken and ribs are good, but I don't care for the pulled pork or smoked turkey. The turkey has a weird taste/texture and the pork is always dry. The side dishes are hit or miss. I love the corn pudding. It's a must try. The hush puppies and fries with cheese and bacon are good as well. The traditional southern side dishes (collards, Mac and cheese, baked beans) were not very good.

We went to City Barbeque craving that good old fashioned BBQ experience, from the smoky rich air beckoning you welcome, to the iced teas served with a smile. We have had BBQ all over the world, but most memorably in the South USA, and were excited to try Dayton's take on the Southern specialty. Perusing the reviews, I thought it was a typo that this joint was listed as "No" with regards to waiter service. Nope, folks. Not a typo. Two seconds after I opened the front door, I knew I had been mistaken. Oops! This is not your typical BBQ joint but rather a cafeteria style, "everything's a-la-carte" BBQ place, with pretty decent food sadly worthy of much better presentation. For just over $40.00 we ordered ribs, smoked salmon, corn bread, mac & cheese, cole slaw, fried pickles and their amazing looking chocolate cake done "Texas Sheet" style. Of everything we had, the corn bread and chocolate cake were the two items to write home about! The corn bread was impressive in that the texture just melted in your mouth instead of sucking it dry! The chocolate cake was beautifully moist, claimed to be made from scratch (as an accomplished cake baker myself I doubt everyone agrees on what it means to be truly from scratch though and wonder if they share my view) and the frosting was perfection. It was rich looking, generously applied, full bodied milk chocolate flavor but with an amazing light silky mouthfeel. Well done I say! Everything else was done well, as in not dry, smoked properly, sauces were great, but presented in such a lack-luster "empty plated" bare bones sort of way that left us feeling kind of...underwhelmed. We spent over $40 for our meal, which isn't bad at all I guess for two adults and a child, but we felt we would have enjoyed it more had we been at a real Barbeque joint, service and presentation included. Now just because it didn't suit our particular mood doesn't mean it wasn't great! We just didn't know what to expect, this time around, and as it turns out, it wasn't my thing. If you're ever in the mood for decent Barbeque in a hurry, you cannot beat City Barbeque. Hands down! If you're like me and prefer the whole experience, Southern Hospitality included, keep looking but do try City Barbeque to see what you think! It is an excellent middle of the road choice for a quality meal in a hurry. This restaurant joins my list for Military Appreciation as they offer a "Military Monday" discount of 10%. Thank you City Barbeque!

OK I have to give this place 5 stars now. The chicken is boring and tasteless, but the brisket is delicious! The cornbread and corn pudding are amazing as well. I will most definitely come here more often.... just skip the pulled chicken.

I think I like Oinkadoodlemoo alot more. But City BBQ still gets 4 stars. The hush puppies might be the whole reason for the 4th star. The BBQ is good. The sauce is good. The green beans are great. Nice place for a quick lunch.

I'm a big fan of City BBQ. The interior isn't much to write home about, it can be crowded and loud. But that's not why you go to City BBQ, you go there for the great meats and classic sides. City BBQ cooks St Louis style, so sauces are welcomed and they do more than one kind of meat. The brisket is my favorite and is awesome, the pulled pork is also outstanding and the ribs are great. There have been times when the meats have been dry but thankfully that's been very rare. The sides are also great, I enjoy their green beans and potato salad very much. My wife is a big fan of the vinegar slaw and cornbread.

Food was decent and accurately described by other yelpers, but what turned us off was the complete self service. You carry your food to the table, fetch your condiments, and bus your plates and utensils at a cleaning station! I felt I was back in middle school! Prices were fair and portions decent, so would try again for carry out.

Everything I tried was excellent but the food was a little heavy for a California girl. My favorites were the hush puppies, the banana pudding, and the pulled pork. Portion sizes are great. I had the gumbo. It came in a relatively small bowl. Thank goodness, because that was a heavy dish! I couldn't finish it. Not by a long shot. Still yummy. The staff was really friendly and the place is very clean. I plan to come back next time I'm in the area. Hopefully soon!

Husband and I were heading into Graeter's when this heavenly whiff overtook us. Suddenly, we were standing in line at City Barbeque, dying for some BBQ! That smell was just too good to pass up. Since we weren't super starving, we went with the City Sandwich Sampler- that way, we were able to try their brisket, pulled pork, and sausage sandwiches along with a little of their baked beans and sweet vinegar slaw. The brisket and pulled pork were tender and not super vinegar-y as I have found at other BBQ joints. They were a little dry, but that was easily solved by coating them both in Brush Fire BBQ sauce (my favorite, by far, of the 4 sauce choices). The sausage was my favorite of the three meats- juicy, flavorful goodness made even better when you added some of the sweet vinegar slaw on top of it. The slaw is great by itself as well- definitely one of the better slaws I have had in my life. As for the baked beans, they were too sweet and molasses-y for my liking. Overall, great BBQ! I definitely plan on coming back for more :)

I love City Barbeque. They have a great menu, tons of different sauces to put on your meat of choice and awesome sides. My favorite is the corn pudding, and no offence to Joanne, but I think it's far better than Oink-a-doodle-moo's"! There is ample seating inside and their Beavercreek location has an enclosed area that converts to patio seating in nicer weather. I think that their tables and chairs could be more comfortable, and I do not enjoy bussing my own dirty dishes. They ask that you sort your dirty dishes into separate compartments and it's pretty messy!

Rating based on taste: 3.5/5 *Bacon Cheese Fries were 5/5 - they tasted like In-n-Out fries and were soooooo-ho-ho-ho-ooooo delicious! *Corn pudding was a bit too flour-y for my liking (Oink-a-doodle-moo was better) *Meat was well cooked, nice and moist *Sweet sauce was the best. The original BBQ sauce and the spicy one was just OK, and a little behind Oink-a-doodle-moo. Rating based on customer service: 5/5 *SUPER friendly cashier, personable and polite. *Server was *always* smiling and open. Rating based on restaurant decor, sanitation, and condiments: 5/5 *Not one speck of dust or sauce liquid on the tables. Well stocked, *cleaned, and refrigerated condiments. *For $1.89, you get unlimited refills of soda, lemonade, or sweet tea! Verdict: Come here for the Bacon Cheese Fries alone if you want a taste of California's In-n-Out. ^O^ Yum yum yum~

I love the hushpuppies and corn pudding. In fact I was FAT and order an extra side for corn pudding. The sides are what makes this place a winner in my eyes-giving it it's 4th star. The BBQ is pretty good, with 3 different sauces to choose from. The picnic style benches are cute, and the FUNNY signs in the bathroomS are a hoot (yes, having laughed in the ladies room I had to check out what was in the mens room).

I consider myself to be a tasty barbeque connoisseur and REALLY enjoyed the food here. We ate here last night for the first time and have friends who recommended the place to us who said how great it was. When you come in, you order at a counter and they call when your order is ready. I don't know if our experience last night was typical, but by the time we ordered and made our way to the end of the counter, our order was up! Yeah, it was THAT fast. I went with the Pulled Chicken Sandwich on Texas Toast, and my husband got the Beef Brisket Sandwich on a regular bun with potato salad and slaw as his sides. We each got a drink. It was about $22.00 total. Kind of expensive by our standards (as others have mentioned). Additionally, as it was our first time there, the cashier asked what type of bread I wanted my sandwich on, and named a bun, white bread, wheat bread, or Texas Toast. Of course I jumped at the Texas Toast. Come to find out AFTER we paid looking at the receipt that it was .79 extra to get the Texas Toast. Really? As if it wouldn't have been expensive enough without having to pay extra for the bread, but then to not even tell you that it cost extra? What a joke. As I said though, the food was delicious. The sandwiches are supposedly 1/2 pound and they don't cheat you on the meat. My husband commented that there was actually too much meat for the bun. Truly there was. Even for mine which was on bigger bread. I can appreciate the generous helpings of meat, but why not make some proportionately sized bread to accommodate the 1/2 pound of meat? The sides were pretty good. The potato salad was my favorite of the two. I'm more of a sweet mayo-based slaw girl, but it was not bad for a vinegar-based one. The sweet tea was DELICIOUS, and thankfully, refillable. :) The decor was backwoodsy with picnic tables, wooden tables and chairs, and little painted signs with funny quotes from other restaurants inside. Overall, the food was top notch, but more money than we'd typically spend for BBQ. It will have to be a special once-in-a-while treat. We just moved here from one of the most expensive areas in the country and our favorite BBQ joint there was cheaper AND a side was included.

City BBQ is always a solid choice. It's not the best BBQ I've had but for the price and location it fits the bill. The sides leave something to be desired, the corn is by far the best in my opinion. But the meat is delicious, the bbq is also great..and I love that they have different options on the table. The staff always seems friendly and the joint is kept pretty clean. You can seat yourself but you do have to clean up after yourself also. But hey you're not tipping someone to do it for you. So I think it's worth it.

One of my favorite places to eat in the entire world...no exaggeration. I live in the Washington, DC area but am often out to Dayton on business. I actually look forward to (and dream about) eating City BBQ. In fact, a few of my friends who live in Dayton have started a tradition of text messaging me "Mmmmmm...you know" every time they eat there just to torment me while I'm in DC. You really just can't find BBQ like this most places. In Baltimore, they advertise for "Pit BBQ"...which is completely misleading. It's not BBQ if it's not slow smoked. Pit BBQ sucks. This is the real deal. Delicious bark...clear pink smoke rings throughout the meat...awesome selection of house made barbecue sauces (served both warm or room temp). The sides are amazing (I recommend the corn pudding and baked beans), the sweet tea is LEGIT and the "help yourself" pickles complete the meal. The atmosphere is amazing. Picnic tables, old school Robert Johnson style acoustic blues, random bbq memorabilia on the walls. You'll leave totally full...but the best part won't hit you until you get back in your car and start to drive off...because the smell of smoked pork will follow you for the rest of the day. It's like heaven.

Barbeque chicken. mmmmmmmm. I didn't actually eat inside City Barbeque, but I had their food catered to a wedding rehearsal dinner that I attended. It was SO good. I over-ate this buffet for sure- The meat was super tender, the flavor very good, with a tangy sauce on top. Everyone kept talking about how good the food was, so I wasn't alone in this opinion. I tried two sides- coleslaw that was vinaigre, not cream, based and mac and cheese, and they were alright, but it was the chicken that was a real winner. I would recommend their food for anyone who needs food catered for a party.

I travel a lot so when ever I see a BBQ place during my travels I usually check it out. While City BBQ is not the best by far, I will say that I was not disappointed either. Food is good and reasonably priced as well. Service is good and friendly, although it does have a chain franchise feel which I do not like, especially when it comes to a BBQ place. It is worth the stop if you have a BBQ craving.

My coworkers and I had a pretty good lunch here while we were in town recently. The pulled pork was tender and juicy, the ribs had a decent amount of smoky goodness, my coworker really liked his brisket, and the variety of BBQ sauces allowed us to get the sweet and heat just right. My only complaints were the size of the sandwiches (they were closer to sliders than real sandwiches) and the mac-n-cheese (overcooked mushy noodles and gummy Velveeta sauce). If you stop by on a Tuesday for lunch, I recommend you grab a pulled pork sandwich lunch plate for $7.50 (with corn pudding, baked beans, or salad as your two sides) and a couple of their ribs for $1.15 each - it will be just about right for filling you up without breaking the bank!

Been here twice.. The first time was when they were open about 2 weeks. The second time was quite some time later to see if things had improved.. they haven't. Portions are small for what you're paying. The ribs are dry and tough. They have a silly sign on the door about not falling off the bone. So, that explains the toughness part. After paying a small fortune for myself and my family, we sit down in a tiny crowded dining room thats set with picnic tables. Way to go all out to make your customers comfortable.. Nice.. 3 tables.. no elbow or foot room and you're probably gonna share that table with strangers. Now I'm really feeling ripped off. The only thing that was above the acceptable was the baked beans with brisket. They were good.. Too bad the rest of the meal was a big Meh.. Next time I want BBQ, I won't be going here. I still don't understand why everyone raves about this place..

Being from the south, I'm often disappointed by the lack of good barbecue in the area, especially when the weather prevents me from firing up the smoker in my backyard. The barbecue here is passable though. Nothing fantastic, but they don't mess anything up either. Solidly acceptable. If I were to compare it against all the barbecue I've ever had, I would have to give it 3 stars. But I'll be fair and take the region and local competition into consideration and bump it up to 4.

A bit of a challenge to find, off the main road, but worth the effort! In a area filled with chain food restaurants and fast food places, City Barbeque is a change to the mediocre chain food restaurants. (although they have five restaurants: Cincinnati and Dayton). As others have stated, BBQ is prettty good, I had the three sampler sandwich of pork, sausage, and chicken, along with two ribs (you can purchase individually). On Tuesdays, it is $1 ribs - I will have to return on a Tuesday for the RIBS plus four biers for $10 (they actually had Lone Star bier - kind of funny to have Texan bier (although not brewed in Texas) in Ohio). Side dishes are great! The atmosphere is best exemplified by the pictures taken and posted by Katie F...the pictures were from the male latrine (Army talk for men's room as opposed to "head" which is Navy/USMC version). I wonder what the women's room sign state? Probably something just as poignant. Under the mirror in the male latrine was a something like, "and you wonder why you go home alone..." Our eyes were definitely larger than our stomachs because in our version of MAN verses FOOD, FOOD WON... and we were hungry...so I do not know about the We went on a Thursday evening, it was not too crowded. Will I return? Yes, but need to order less.

I really like City BBQ. Great meats, great sides. Some says it's pricey but quality is not cheap. I've had the ribs, the chicken, the pulled pork and the brisket and would recommend any of them. My favorites sides are the mac & cheese and the fries. Their coleslaw is a little different and not my cup o'tea. Be aware it's counter service, not sit down service.

Best meat in the area; beef brisket and pulled pork melt in your mouth and you have a choice of 5 or 6 BBQ sauces. GREAT brewed ice T/sweet T, too and wide variety of sides.....great value for the price and large portions.

Pretty decent barbeque and they have great sweet tea; so good, I have to cut it a bit with unsweet tea :) Staff have always been friendly when I've stopped in. With Graeter's next door for dessert, how can you go wrong?

The cashier was friendly. A+ for that. Not impressed to say the least! I don't know why I was expecting a sit down restaurant. I guess because each meal runs about $10+, but I guess it wasn't so bad because I didn't have to waste more money on a tip! First off, I ordered the smoked chicken breast 1/2 lb sandwich with a side salad, macaroni and cheese and a drink. It ended up being like $12? REALLY? I was a little peeved at the fact that underneath the 1/2 Sandwiches was a small, awkward box saying you could order a 1/4 sandwich at half the price til 3pm. No, I'm not blind but I didn't see it until after the fact. Their menu is kinda a big cluster---- of stuff. Okay, so back to the food. I was impressed by the salad. Great selection of greens. I would have liked some cheese, maybe but otherwise, great. But it's a salad... can you really mess up a salad? The macaroni was cold and had a shell of plasticky cheese on the top. Not appealing. My one year old wouldn't even eat it. I'm a huge fan of mac and it was a huge let down. The sandwich. Wow. Okay. It was a big sandwich. Not worth $7 though! It was served plain--which maybe most are served that way. But it was dry. Good smoke taste, but dry. Also, the bun it was on it was like taking the top half of a normal bun and slicing it in half.... paper thin and didn't hold up at all... completely worthless. The cherry on top was when a table got up to leave--the only other people in the whole place--and out of all the paths this large woman could find to fit her rather large backside of course had to be right beside my face! While I was trying to eat! LOL! There is no saving this dining experience. I'll go anywhere else next time!

Sorry, not a fan. Portions were small and the seating arrangements are tight. Nothing like bumping elbows with strangers on a picnic table. Not my idea of going out to eat.

I'm surprised this place doesn't have better reviews! Maybe the other reviewers are from parts of the country where there are super high standards for good BBQ (similar to how I have super high standards for pizza and bagels, being that I grew up in the New York area), but this Northeasterner has really become a fan of City BBQ! Their pulled pork, beef brisket, and baby back ribs (each rib--note this means individual rib, not slab of rib--is $1 on Tuesdays) are smoky and flavorful, and they have a plethora and abundance of sauces at each table to slather onto your BBQ to your heart's desire (one thing I HATED at some other BBQ places I've been to in the past, primarily in the Boston area, is their weak sauces and the fact that they skimped out by serving those sauces in miniscule containers). As for sides, I really like their fries and mac & cheese. Drinkwise, I always opt for the sweet tea, which I sometimes mix with a little regular tea if the sweetness is a bit overpowering that day. City BBQ is definitely a solid BBQ place in my book!

I have not really had much luck with chain BBQ and went under protest. My fears were justified. I like the place, menu, prices, staff. I didn't like anything about the food. I tried ribs, pork, slaw and greens. The meats are overcooked and don't taste fresh and alive to me. They have that overdead quality to my palate. The sauces are ok. The greens had way too much pork in them and had an onion overtone. I hated them. I really wanted some greens. The slaw was cooked in its vinegar bath and had the same insipid onion overtone. It tasted like yesterday's food.

I still haven't found Pulled pork better than City BBQ's. It is always perfect in smokey-ness and is tender. Paired with the sweet city BBQ, it is amazing. I usually buy a bottle every time I'm dining in. The sweet sauce with the small chunks of onion in the sauce ---sooo good! The sliced turkey is also the best turkey I've ever had. I used to work here and have literally ate every single thing on the menu and there isn't anything I can complain about. Also working there I can comment on the freshness of the food and it is always fresh! If there is any question of freshness it isn't served. The guys who opened City BBQ started it out of their garage and have grown it into a multi-store business. They treat their customers and employees like family and it's what keeps people coming back. That job taught me everything I know about customer service and the importance of it. Naked, on a bun or upgrade to your meat served on Texas toast- it's all good. DO NOT pass up the cornbread and slice of triple chocolate cake. They both add amazing flavor to the whole dining experience.

3.5 to 3.75, but I just can't round up. My hubby and I decided to split a city sampler. Unfortunately they were out of sausage, so we got some extra of either pulled pork or brisket, but I don't remember. We also decided that we needed a full slab of ribs. The ribs were absolutely fantastic. They didn't fall off the bone, but they certain came off the bone just like they are supposed to. The turkey - it can be difficult to not dry out turkey and this was getting on the dry side, but it was still pretty darn good. The pork - again good, but a little on the dry side (I guess that is what the sauce was for). The brisket: Again - what is it with chopping up a good piece of meat? I want slices. So with the brisket, there were really really good pieces and really dry pieces - and I'm sure there was a beautiful smoke ring in there somewhere, but unfortunately we couldn't see it. For the sides we chose the baked beans which were good and the greens with pork which were a little bland. Its worth going back for the ribs, but slightly disappointed in the other offerings. Maybe it was just an off night?

  • Jed M.

I don't like the ribs but I wish I did. I've had them twice. The first time I was a little disappointed but it was a while ago so when that old ribs-monkey got on my back I just had to go back and try them again. I got the full slab which is insanely huge; they don't mess around there. But the ribs were tough with a lot of bark and skin and weren't very tasty. I tried dousing them with barbeque sauce but they still didn't hit the mark for me. Now the good stuff: I do like the people who work there; they are very friendly. I like the atmosphere. I really like their green beans and gumbo. I have tried the pulled pork barbeque and remember it being average, but better than other places around here. So all told, three stars for effort. Maybe I'll go back and give the ribs another shot sometime in the future.

Would give a 3.5 stars! Food: I ordered the corn bread, mac n cheese and the pulled pork. The corn bread was yummy. I was disappointed with the mac n cheese -- it was really bland, no flavor at all. The pulled pork was tender but kinda on the dry side. I guess I could've put BBQ sauce on it to solve my problem but I wasn't in the saucy mood (the reason for me not ordering ribs). However, the rest of my table ordered the ribs and they all DOWNED their food and said it was really good. Service: Not really a customer service oriented place. You order in the front, seat yourself, pick up your own food at the counter and dispose your trays after your meal. The worker at the register was friendly, answering all the questions I had about the menu. The order comes out really fast! I waited less than 5 minutes and my food was ready -- and still HOT. Lots of seating available, good food, decent price. I would come back again if I'm feelin for some BBQ! Note: They have 10% military discount!

I had high hopes for this place but... Alas... Those hopes were dashed and a disappointed grin lingers on my face. This is NOT a restaurant even though from the outside it looks like it is... It's actually a go up to the counter and order like fast food restaurant without the drive through. Choices are plentiful, portions generous and the aromas pleasing... Until you sink your teeth into each of the grease pockets every morsel holds from the meats to the Texas toast. You will feel heavy with fat after a tour through your meal... Not that I don't enjoy the heavenly taste of well placed shine but this has the distinct flavor of more than just beautiful meat juices. I needed a hot shower after my meal. The barbecue flavor was alright... The sauce is your choice... I can't write anymore. City Barbecue is just another fast food joint that is overpriced for what you get.

Fast courteous service - no waiter= no 20% more for a tip! Ribs smoky and fall off the bone, green beans a little bland, cornbread pudding a unique treat for the area. A little pricey but worth it and a value for ribs.

Caio!

Nice atmosphere. Customer service is fantastic in this location. So many choices and the side dishes are great.

Love this place. And the sweet tea is my favorite! I like the brisket and the variety of BBQ sauce choices. It gets busy so come early
