Customers Be Warned of the terrible service!! The good reviews has to be family, friends, they paid someone or the owner The only and only good thing that Betty Boop has going is the generous portions with reasonable prices. Aside from that, the staff will keep coming to the table until the customer/s are ready to order but once your food arrives they are not attentive at all. A customer would be lucky if they ask for more water or a napkin and actually get one. Speaking of water the waitress had the audacity to say "all you ask for is water, we have other beverages", WTF! This has been my 4th and last time since I was yelled at in front of seated customers after I complained but the owner waited until paid the bill. She treated me like I was begging or did not want to pay, I was embarrassed at the way I was treated and my wife was sitting with her jaw dropped in aww with her eyes bulging as to what happened. Me: The service was slow and me and my wife's food was not given to us as ordered nor was it good! Owner: "get out of my restaurant" and "you are not welcomed here" I have only eaten @ Betty Boop's 4 times: I would order the Country Fried Steak (Thick,Tasty and Moist), 3 Scrambled eggs w/cheese (Fluffy and Good), Hashbrowns (Good) and Whole Wheat Toast lightly buttered (Ok). My final visit: The same order but the Country Fried Steak (Tough, Dry and NO Flavor), it didn't seem and taste like 3 Scrambled eggs (it was overcooked and no cheese, I asked for cheese and the waitress took my plate and roller her eyes, brought back the eggs with cheese but it was not melted and cold), Hashbrowns (Overcooked and Crunchy enough that it cut the inside of my mouth) and Whole Wheat Toast (Dry, felt like sandpaper and it was lightly buttered too). My wife hates there coffee despite that she ordered the 3 huge Pancakes w/Butter and not crispy bacon or soft, the waitress took her plate and came back with 2 pieces of curled up bacon that looked like they were end of the grill waiting to be given to a poor unfortunate soul instead of 4 burnt ones. Wife: Coffee taste grainy Wife: Pancakes were Dry and Not tTasty, the bacon was burnt Wife: Raises her hand Waitress: Comes over Wife: I asked for not crispy bacon or soft Waitress: Takes the plate and rolls her eyes while snapping her gum loud Waitress: Brings back the bacon and not in a nice way! Wife: What is that? Waitress: You wanted soft bacon or not crispy bacon Wife: That does not look like soft bacon and why is it curled? Waitress: It was on the grill and we have no more bacon cooked yet so you would have to wait for 2 more soft pieces. Wife: Was in shock that she was told that That is when we had enough and decided to leave and like other customers who gave Betty Boop a bad or negative review will not return as well and will let others know of the horrible, no class, unprofessional, can't take correct orders and criticism and let's not forget the Not So Tasty Food. Betty Boop Boop be Doop, I will pop open a bottle of champagne when you finally close for good riddance, you are a disgrace to the restaurant/diner industry!

From the out side it looks like a dive bar but the inside is filled with local love. The menu is nothing amazing, but when you have a small good menu why push it. Had the chicken parm. It was very good and so filling I could not finish it.

one of my favorite albany diners ! The homefries are epic ! and i am a girl that NEEDS the homefries to be good !! they come without onions or peppers which i dig ! but they will add them for you if you ask .. which i also dig ! the prices are good .. the service is fast .. the decor is alright .. i am not a fan of red as a color .. but red and diners almost go hand in hand . also the french toast is quite tasty ! i HATE the parking on philip st. , that's the only reason this place gets four stars . if they had a parking lot .. it would be5 stars for sure !

Pretty good classic diner food. Nothing fancy or pretentious about the place. You can get a massive amount of food for an some unbelievably low prices. I've gone twice now, once for breakfast, the other for lunch. I was pleased both times, but honestly the lunch took the cake. My chicken sandwich was MASSIVE. At least six inches high, an entire chicken breast, good cheese, a ripe tomato, delicious pesto mayo, and well done crinkle cut fries. I think it was 8 dollars. I honestly don't know how they can make enough money to be worth it. Huge omelets, delicious bacon, and piles of pancakes and waffles. The place is small, and it can get packed on a Saturday or Sunday morning. Service both times has been a little slow, and total time spent there was close to an hour, so keep that in mind. Both times I've gone there the credit card machine was down and the ATM was out of order. I'd bring cash just in case. Regardless, head over there next time you're craving a massive breakfast for as cheap as it gets in the area.

My wife and daughters raved about this place! When we got there 6/1/2015 for breakfast it was no one in the place! We said cool we sat down it took the waitress 10'minutes to get to us and another 15 to order food! I ordered corn beef hash eggs over easy with American cheese! Not only were my eggs cooked wrong it had no cheese in it, the waitress brought my plate of food to the table and said oh yeah you were suppose to have cheese on your eggs, she then brought it back to the kitchen where the cook named MO(reminds me of one of the three stooges) put cheese on my eggs the same shitty eggs they were brought out the first time to me! The corn beef was lunch meat chopped up into small pieces with some watery potatoes! My wife had the country fried steak it was as big as a baseball tough as all hell the gravy looked like wall paper paste! She had two bites of it and that was it! I took one bite of mine food spit it in the napkin and that was the ball game folks! Our bill came to 23.95 I left a 10 dollar tip! I picked our son up and walked out! The lady asked my wife when I left out he did not like the food he didn't touch anything on the plate! As I walked out Mo was coming out the side kitchen door he couldn't look me in my face he turned and went back in the entrance of the kitchen! Never again will I ever eat there again! I heard when the parent are there cooking the food is great! I'm not giving it another try! Get rid of MO, my 90 year old grandmother can out cook his ass! This is coming from a chef who's been in the business for 25 years, I'm not toting my own horn but come on,Magen I started out as a breakfast cook I sucked! I got better now I'm great, Mo do yourself a favor get some books watch a few YouTube videos! Take some culinary classes and maybe just maybe you will make a great breakfast Chef L Clark

1st time visiting this AM. Food was ok, but kinda tasteless, (eggs Benedict ) should have more lemon, hash browns great. Other guest with me were very happy All in all will go again sometime The biggest disappointment was the COFFEE! How does a diner not have good coffee. Seriously bad and I honestly don't think its me. Next time tea!

This is a funky little diner offering friendly family service and good homemade food. The breakfast offerings range from eggs to giant omelets and pancakes. Lunch can include wraps and hearty sandwiches, and dinner might be a good juicy burger or Italian specialties. The food is VERY inexpensive and the servings are huge - two can eat with beverages (no alcohol available) for less than $20 including tax. Just be careful you don't go into a food coma on your way out. The food is very good, no surprises - great spot for Sunday brunch with the family.

If you're looking for a mom & pop neighborhood restaurant, this is as good as it gets. Great home-style food, friendly staff, and you simply can't beat the prices.

So So Disappointed today because I feel like I was taken advantage of and many others there probably were as well. Last weekend I had no problem using one of my deals I had but this weekend they decide to change the rules on a Double Take/Local Flavour because the owner said that the service has been slow on weekdays and busier on the weekends and she said she called to tell Double Takes of the change but I didn't see it noted online and not sure if I got an email about it We didn't know she wasn't accepting Dounbletake until we were done eating breakfast and when I than presented the deal they refused to accept it. I believe the owner was deceitful by making you to come back on a weekday to use it and get you back there to spend more money. She sure made out well having me buy the discounts because I didn't benefit from it at all since last week our receipt was around $12 and I had paid $10 and the deal was worth $20 and since I won't now go back I lose another $10 on the second deal purchase. There is no reason why she couldn't have just accepted the deal, The restaurant wasn't busy today by any means. What the owner was doing wasn't right at all. I do believe it was an intentional because those deals are good for like 6 months and right before they expire the business decides to not accept it on weekends, I don't think so. I decided to go here with my parents for a treat since I had a deal to use up by Monday. But who ended up paying for the meal ; my dad since he felt horrible for me and the way I was treated. I told the waitress how I felt and she was very gracious and tried to assist and deserves praise for even working there. What they ended up doing to us and others is down right disgraceful and I won't be back ever and I have been been here numerous times. Always wanted to go to dinner also but now that isn't going to happen. Because the business doesn't care for their customers and doesn't have good business sense is why I am giving them only one star today and no more of my business.

I ordered eggs. It took an hour for the food to come. Plus, the server was very rude and clearly had some mental health issues

+++ - Mom and pop environment, the owner is a waitress and she really knows her customers - Food feels very homemade, like your eating breakfast at a friend's mom's house ++ - HUGE!!!!! portions, one Betty Boop pancake is the equivalent of 3 regular panca

One of the nicest things about Betty Boop is the owner Theresa and her staff.. They're always very helpful and are fun. I suggest the eggplant parm (homemade) or the greens and beans. Enough for two meals.

Bettie's is a good local diner. Its location is very convenient. Food is good and bad. I figured it out. If you order a meal and it's cook by the elder guy that owns the place. Then you should have a great meal. Problem is, It's a family business and when mom and pops are out the diner its ran by the sons. If you had a bad meal most likely it was the sons who prepared it. When I go there now I immediately look at the cooks. If it's the elders I'll order. If it's the sons, I grab a to go menu to make it look good

In the past year I have been to this diner multiple times, and both the service and the food has been consistently inconsistent. You never know if you're going to be waited on by fast friendly servers, overwhelmed and negligent ones, or ignored by young kids on their phones behind the counters. This morning was Betty Boop's Last "last chance". There have been raw pancakes, and long waits, cold toast; so I feel as though I have been more than fair in giving them a chance to win me over. I live less than two blocks away and it would be so awesome if it was actually good. This morning we went at 11 and were seated at a dirty table, (which was bussed, don't misunderstand, it was just dirty with "fresh" silverware, including two dirty knives); one of only 2 open tables as the diner was full of people already eating. When it came time to take our orders I ordered eggs Benedict for the first time there, and my boyfriend ordered a country fried steak, and the waitress asked "how he'd like it cooked".....ummm??? What??? So his mother orders eggs with wheat toast and he Orders white toast and the waitress says "wow, everyone's getting wheat today" and hurries off before we can correct her. So for the next HOUR we wait, three cups of coffee, several reassurances that "our food's up next" and we watch as other tables seated after us are served and a table who was seated before us waits patiently, another table of 5 was served one plate at a time. At one point every table was full and only ONE had been served. During this time several parties stepped in and right back out again upon seeing the wait. The people behind us sat at least 10 minutes before having their drink order taken, and due to their disorganized "sit where ever you like" style seating an elderly gentleman sat himself to later be moved to a small corner table. On the hour we stood up and put our coats on to go and were assured that our food was done, and do we still want it, to which his mothers response was as long as it's really done and the toast Isn't cold. So another 5 minutes passes and the waitress comes out with two plates, and it actually was country fried steak, and then brings out my eggs Benedict.... On wheat toast??? And a large plate of their two orders of "wheat" toast which was undercooked, scantily buttered and so clearly re-made that it was just sad. It's obvious that my English muffin was cold hence the wheat bread substitute, which honestly was tasty and inventive, but not what I ordered. The home fries were good as usual and the coffee was basic mediocre diner coffee you'd come to expect from any diner dive. When the meal of the people seated next to us who waited over an hot arrived we couldn't help but notice it was basic sausage and eggs, nothing fancy, what on earth could have taken so long is a mystery to me. This visit was a lot like thanksgiving, wait all morning and finish the meal in 10 minutes. I know I am writing a small novel here, but I think it's imperative for businesses to know that when you are serving your guests, you are serving real people with jobs, which may or may not be in the food service industry, and they fully understand what a rush is, and how difficult it can be to keep up, and further more they are aware of when they are being mistreated. This establishment is so deeply flawed that I am almost certain a large portion of the positive reviews here are personal friends of the family. And understandably so. I have witnessed excellent customer service to patrons who appear to have a report with the owner, but beyond that it's Russian roulette. I am also aware that this detailed account makes it quite obvious exactly who I am and which table I was at, but that's ok. I am never stepping foot in Betty Boop's Diner again.

This place exudes the small town mom n' pop charm I look for when escaping from the chains popping up so frequently as of late. The down-to-earth waitstaff, Frank's Red Hot stationed at every table, and tacky Betty Boop decor set me up for an authentic experience in this humble little diner. I wasn't disappointed. The friendly and very conversational waiter, "E", suggested the French toast, which I ordered, along with turkey bacon and eggs over easy. The French toast was served on huge slices of Texas toast, making a short stack of two enough to fill me. They were delicious! There was a crispness to the crust that succumbed to a soft inside with flavors that surpassed the customary vanilla and cinnamon. The eggs and turkey bacon were each prepared perfectly. I saw someone order homefries and regret not having a side of those as well. They looked great, but I will definitely be back for the French toast.

Considering my three experiences here over the past year, I read the reviews that are hidden... those sound more accurate than not. The food and service are mediocore. I think the space would be better served by not trying to be a dinner, but by focusing on a few things that are done well. They have spread themselves too thin, and it shows in the food and service.

Was up in Albany and wanted to go to a diner, and I found this establishment. It was so much more than a standard diner. Everything is homemade such as the grits which were cooked perfectly, the "house special sauce" on the roast beef sandwich an the potato salad. I will love to go back here to try some of the other items on the menu the next time I am in Albany.

Visited for the first time last week and it was so yummy. The pancakes were pretty much the best I've had. Big, soft and fluffy!! Bacon was a little too crispy but that's ok I was more excited about the delicious pancakes!! :-) can't wait to return.

I recently ordered from here on a recent visit to Albany to see family. The food was great which is why I give 3 stars. The portions were nice but I believe I was overcharged for my pick up order. How does pancankes with turkey bacon, a side of fries and 2 dozen wings come with $32.25???? I think I will be skipping this place on my next visit just because of being overcharged on my order...

While the sevice is fine and the portions are generous the food itself is disappointing. After a short wait for breakfast both the eggs and hashbrowns in my meal were undercooked and my toast was burnt, also the dining area is a bit cramped.

What started as a great breakfast took a very sharp detour. The restaurant is a cozy place, but we were seated immediately. Even though we've never been here before, DeAnna finds people she knows and walks over to say hello. Between greeting the people she knows, the 50s style, and the coziness, DeAnna is comparing the place to a restaurant her parents owned 30 years ago. Instant nostalgia for her... even thought we've never been here before. I decided to order something I've never had before. I went with the first thing on the menu, country fried steak. I don't know why, but it seemed like a good idea at the time. The plate was pretty good. The steak was a nice sized helping, covered in a light gravy with mushrooms and a hint of maple sweetness. There was a generous serving of home fries, grill cooked (no peppers). And to finish the plate. a smattering of fresh fruit, including blueberries, a strawberry, and a piece of orange. DeAnna ordered a make your own omelet - adding mushrooms, feta cheese and tomatoes. She loved it. And then I saw something that turned my stomach. As a table was being cleared, the waitress brought a handful of silverware and put it on the table, leaving two place settings that were unused by the party at the table previously. All of this was sitting on the table exposed as she squirted Windex over the glass top table and wiped it down, moving the silverware into and out of areas that were just sprayed. Instantly, everything in my mouth suddenly felt like it was covered in Windex. I put my fork down and would not pick it up again for the remainder of our time there. I then saw the same woman do the same thing to a second table and told DeAnna it was time to leave. It is a shame, the meal was great and DeAnna was loving the restaurant. However, I expect I will never walk inside that door again.

My daughter took us the this place for dinner. My husband had the bacon Omelette and home fries, he loved it. My daughter had a penne with chicken and vodka sauce. It was huge! She will eat at least two more times from that (she's interning in Albany). I tried the sauce and it was absolutely fabulous. I had the fusilli? chicken. It had arugula, sundries tomatoes, and big delicious pieces of roasted garlic. The dish was great. Both pasta dishes were served with a salad. We asked for Italian dressing and got a perfect Balsamic dressing - loved it. Now for the down side, my plate came out late, they said they had to rebook the pasta. When it did come out, my husband was over half done and my pasta was seriously undercooked. I'm an al dente pasta lover, but it definitely should not crunch. We also had two flies buzzing our table for most of the dinner. And this is ones of those places where people from the South shouldn't order iced tea :). Staff was friendly and prices reasonable.

Had lunch here with my Dad. We both got Reuben's. They were both pretty good. However they were made quite sloppily and the fries were under cooked and soggy. I'm willing to give it another go, especially for breakfast from what I saw the Belgian waffles looked awesome

Good, but especially in Albany where mediocre food is the norm. Home cooking Italian cuisine, as well as breakfast and diner fare. Mom and pop feel to this beautiful clean new renovation. Delicious!

Actually I'd give it a 5-Star but for the lack of space. We got lucky, just happen to be walking by on our way to another destination. I heard plenty of social chatter coming from the open door. We were planning on eating elsewhere but turned to see wasup?! Inside was warm, colorful and inviting with staff and patrons equally so. Even with a party of 8-10 seated before us our wait wasn't too long. Food was really good, I strongly recommend the potato salad as a side, its crazy good!. Should have come here for breakfast the next day instead of going to (see my review of) Pearl Street Diner. It would have gone a long way to a great ending to our little Albany get-away. Keep in mind seating is limited so be prepared but you won't be disappointing if you don't have to wait too long.

This place is awesome! Came here for breakfast, everything tasted so fresh, big portions, and great prices. The place is cozy and the staff very friendly. One of the best breakfasts I've had in Albany! Definitely coming back! (Highly recommend the french toasts or the country fried steak and eggs)

I was excited because Betty Boop's website touted a "four star chef" and homemade pastries. I was imagining this great little American diner with a scratch menu, tucked away in a quiet little neighborhood. Inside, the diner is clean and cute and - as you might imagine from the name - heavily laden with Betty Boop memorabilia. Shortly after we sat down, an employee decided that it would be a good idea to fix the wobbly table right next to us, so he proceeded to flip it upside-down and work on it as we sat chatting. I ordered steak and eggs (rare) and home fries. I was imagining a juicy, rare steak with crispy home-fries flavored with onion and garlic, but what came to my table was a plate of grey meat and French fries (they were out of home fries, so the waitress took the liberty of brining me a pile of thick-cut French fries). The "steak" turned out to be three small disks of tough, gray, overdone cube-steak. Cube steak? I didn't even know that people still ate this stuff; I had my last one in 1976. I tried to drown it in various condiments, but it was just too tough and flavorless, so I gave up. I ate the toast (which was very good) and eggs and called it a day. The staff is courteous and pleasant (which is the only reason the place got two stars), but it scarcely makes up for the food. We crossed this one off our list immediately.

Very cute little place with friendly waitresses, excellent service, and great prices. Breakfasts are standard diner fare (yes, the homefries are fantastic) but the soft scrambled eggs and heavily buttered toast set it apart from other local preparations which are often too dry. Looking forward to trying the lunch menu.

Stopped in today for breakfast. We were seated right away and had our drinks quickly. I ordered the chicken fried steak and eggs and M.A. Got the spinach feta omelette special. Our food arrived before I got through one section of the newspaper. The portions were surprisingly large. M.A. had asked for her omelette "soft" and the one she received had been cooked too long. We let the wait staff know and the omelette was replaced quickly with one that was just right. Both of us were surprised by the generous portions and affordable prices. We will definitely be back.

The Betty Boop Diner is great place to stop in for breakfast, lunch, or dinner! My friends and I went back two days in a row. Two sweet waitresses took care of us both visits. It had delicious food and a friendly, family atmosphere. The helpings are large and a lot for the price. Great food, friendly staff, and a warming atmosphere make for a perfect place to stop for a quick bite when in Albany! I would recommend Betty Boops to anyone and can't wait to go back!

We really wanted to like this place because we live right down the street and it is one of the only businesses in the neighborhood. However, both times we went the service was very slow and items came out one at a time. Who wants their toast halfway through their meal? My girlfriend ordered blueberry pancakes and they came raw. When we told the waitress that they were raw, her response was "oh, really?". She made no offer to remedy the problem and did not remove it from our bill. Furthermore, the coffee is bad and the decor is extremely tacky. On the positive side, the potatoes are good, the portions are large, and the prices are reasonable. We also find it very odd that they put up their own parking signs on our street, thereby taking up our much-valued public parking spots. We won't be going back.

Went with three friends around lunch time on a Sunday. We wanted to order lunch items, such as burgers, and were told we couldn't because they "only serve breakfast on Sunday." A few minutes later, a couple was seated near us and proceeded to order burgers with no problem. We ate our breakfast without saying a thing, however, the service was horrible. Our waitress made a mistake on two out of four of our orders, was very confused when we attempted to tactfully and nicely explain the mistakes, then kept us waiting forever when it came time to give us our check. We ended up having to go up to the register to pay because she still forgot to bring us the check even after we reminded her (which is pretty incredible seeing that the diner is very small and we were seated in an obvious place that she walked by at least 50 times). At this point, we were so disappointed with the service, we decided to question her at the register about why we were told we couldn't order burgers when others did so with no problem. Her face turned as red as could be and she said, "well, their waitress must have known them." Suffice to say, we will NEVER return to this diner.
