I don't understand the pricing of this place. $13 for a plate of hummus with mushrooms? That same dish is $7.99 at Nanoosh (which also feels like a "higher-end" hummus place) and $8.95 at Hummus Place. Both of them have locations in more expensive areas than Murray Hill.

I'm pretty much a regular at here, or at least used to be. The lunch special was just so much better than the other options around here. Lunch Dishes: Hummus with anything: The hummus is the creamy kind that I like, and the pita is nice and soft. There's also a choice to have raw vegetable sticks instead which is a nice tough. Laffa's (Wraps): All of them are good, it just depends on the mood I'm in. Though I never really order the chicken one. Cool tip: The falafel one comes with an extra falafel on the side. Shakshuka: I thought the shakshuka was a bit weak here. Platters: I've had the lamb kebab so far, and it's great, I'd rec it. Mazze's (Appetziers) Hummus: Comes in a small dish and topped with chickpeas. Beet Salad: Highly recommended. Cauliflower: It's just OK Rice: It's rice Taboule: It's made of quinoa Falafel: Their falafel is pretty good here. I think they're fried though. All the drinks were decent. And somehow the water tastes like hummus (that's before meals)

Best affordable dinner we had in NYC! we went here because we lived close, but it's certainly worth the trip if you're looking for a great tasting meal. ordered: Mazze trio (hummus, babaganush, over roasted cauliflower), Seni'ya the great: the taste! the hummus was some of the best i have ever tasted, hands down! the Seni'ya was burting with flavor and actually surprised me when i ate it. you could really taste the marination in the lamb and the chicken. the good: the whole experience was great, and the bathroom was spotless. also, was the cheapest dinner we had in NYC, but one of the best in terms of taste. notes: it was actually a 4.5 in my books because the service was a little disappointing, especially when we didn't order any drinks or dessert. but the taste and the value pushed it to a 5. bottom line: I'd go back tonight if I wasn't back in Portland. i've already told friends to go there. you should too!

The hummus was tasty, I'll give Hummus Kitchen that. Otherwise, I feel like the experience left much to be desired. Although we had multiple waiters/waitresses, it was insanely difficult to get a glass of water. I got the light hummus which came with a selection of a few nasty tasting vegetables. I ate one carrot and decided to request some pita instead (which tasted fine, nothing special). They also took forever to give us our check. From my experience, I'd stick to the hummus and probably take out so as not to have to deal with the iffy staff.

I ordered lunch from this place (it's literally 2 blocks away from my office) and not only did it take almost 2 hours for delivery to arrive, but the food tasted like it's been sitting out for a long time. My soup container was completely collapsed where there was part of the paper lid floating on top. The food was nasty and I threw it away after 2 bites. Also, during the 2 hours we waited for our food, we called multiple times and was lied to on each occasion (delivery guy just left, etc). Never again.

I really enjoyed dinner here. Nice atmosphere and very friendly staff. My friend and I shared an appetizer, large salad, and wrap and it was just the right amount of food. They have great options if you're looking for something healthy.

A friend of mine introduced me to this place for lunch- highly recommend for lunch! The lunch special is generous, and there are also discounted drinks for lunch also. The white sangria is delicious, and the wine selection in general is pretty good. However, dinner I find way over priced. Not worth$18-$20 an entree- sorry its just not worth it compared to the other Mediterranean restaurants in the area.. Great for lunch though! Order the red chicken- or Spring chicken. Babaganuch is very tasty too! ;)

Shared a light dinner with my husband: falafel, and sides of beets, carrots and roasted cauliflower. The lemonana (fresh lemon and mint slush) was a pleasant surprise! Great value!

Five stars for service, atmosphere and the hummus. Three stars for the other food. Hummus Kitchen is an adorable spot if you are looking for some healthy, hearty food. The space is clean and cozy, and the staff is incredibly nice and helpful. They forgot to bring my soup with my meal so they gave it to me to-go on the house. All the items are dairy free. The hummus is to die for - super light, great flavor and comes with the most amazing warm, fluffy pita bread. However, I was disappointed with the rest of my food. The super healthy salad was mostly a pile of quinoa without any flavor. The oven roasted cauliflower topped with green tahini was also tasteless despite it looked like it was covered in seasoning. I would come here again if I was looking for a light lunch of appetizers/hummus/wine but otherwise, there are better places to go.

As other reviewers have said, the hummus here is actually quite delicious. If only that were enough. Actually, all the food I got here was very yummy, but the service was utterly horrible. Having worked in food service myself, I understand that when things get busy, it's tough to keep on top of all of your tables. But during the entire time we were there, we could never figure out who our server actually was. Whenever we saw a staff member, we just immediately did a wave-dance thing to get their attention while such a rare opportunity presented itself. Stick to takeout, I say. Get the good food without the potentially disappointing service. And save on tip. Win-win? Yes.

I had the falafel sandwich for lunch. It's pricier than some places nearby but it's worth the extra money because you get a larger portion, better quality and a free appetizer from the lunch special. The meal all together I turned into two meals. Lunch special: Free appetizer with Sandwich, Platter or Salad. I went with the free hummus and it was a good size portion of delicious hummus. The hummus has some green sauce mixed in there that's really tasty. Super-friendly staff. Quick to make the food. I'll definitely be going back.

My husband & I ordered delivery of the hummus, tomato/cucumber salad, falafel & chicken kebab. We were underwhelmed with the food vs. the price tag. I prefer the falafel place on Sullivan St. or Hoomos Asli downtown. Much tastier & fresher & lower price tag.

More like a 3.5 for bad service and great food. The restaurant is cute and cozy, nothing fancy or special. I came at 10 (an hour before closing) and was informed that the kitchen was closing in 15 minutes, wait what?) No biggie, I made my orders even for dessert in advance. My date and I got the hummus, beets and falafel. I'm not sure if it's just me but the falafel wasn't good. It tasted of old oil and it was really hard on the outside. I like the hummus at Taim Falafel much better. The hummus was good though (beets too but how can you mess up beets?). I got the chicken kebabs which were so much better than I expected. The chicken was juicy and the rice was so flavorful. Perfect plate however, it came out on this huge skewer that was like 2 feet long. What the heck? I almost smacked my date's arm trying to pull the damn thing out of my small pieces of chicken. I mean, it doesn't take long to take the meat off the skewers. Throughout the course of dinner, we were being rushed and the 2 people serving us were making us so uncomfortable and it wasn't even 11o'clock. We ordered this "flan" (malabi) for dessert which wasn't to my taste. It was watery and had an odd taste to it. They brought it out when we just finished our appetizers which I felt was a bit rude. I don't like being rushed when I'm eating. They've got a few kinks to work out but I think it'll get better in the future (as if I'd come back when Taim Smoothie and Falafel is closer to me).

I've been frequenting Hummus Kitchen for a few years now and I must say that everything that I've had here has been spectacular. I honestly thought that in addition to top notch service that the shawma was the most unique take I've ever had--- delicious!

Good sangria, tasty hummus and falafel, and you get a free dessert if you "like" them on Facebook. Not the best hummus I've ever had though.

I didn't think I would like Hummus Kitchen...I don't usually eat things that are healthy. But I really enjoyed my lunch there. The menu does have a lot of things I won't eat (I know, I'm a grown up, I should be better about this). I have an aversion to condiments and sauces, so I like most things pretty plain. But the Chicken Kebob with Wild Rice ($15.95) was really great. The decor is warm and exotic, and the servers were casual and friendly, just not the best they could be. I'd definitely go back, and that's saying a lot from someone who usually prefers lunch in a fast food container.

Cute, cozy and amazing food - I absolutely LOVE this spot! I have tried almost everything on the menu and it is all delicious. Their Green Tahini Platter is my ultimate favorite dish here (if you are cool with eating red meat you have to try it). Their baba ghanoush and falafel are also to-die-for. Another thing I love about his place is that no matter who I bring here we are all happy, Hummus Kitchen has great options for vegans, vegetarians and hardcore carnivores (like me) - it is one of the only places all of my friends can eat without any of us having to make some serious sacrifices (I have been forced to eat a lot of tasteless sprouts, tofu and other meat substitutes in my day). Their takeout menu is awesome, if you feel like staying in and their service is always stellar, if you feel like stepping out. If you haven't hit this spot up yet you absolutely should.

So good and so cheap. Another neighborhood spot to take vegetarian friends to when you're looking for a low key, quick meal. Two of us shared a mazze trio and were totally satiated. The hummus is great, of course, and the bureka and babaganush didn't disappoint either. You definitely need to order/pay for more pita bread, but it'll still come out to a very inexpensive, healthy meal.

This place just opened up in my neighborhood. I'm a big fan of hummus and needed to see what the new restaurants in my hood could do. Recently I had bearburger which also recently opened and was very pleased. I was hoping that murray hill could continue opening decent restaurants, Hummus Kitchen did not disappoint. The place use to be a Tibetan restaurant. I tried that once and either they did a bad job at cooking of I don't like Tibetan food. Anyway I was happy they closed down (sorry if this offends anyone). Anyway the interior was nice. Had a very foreign/middle eastern feel to it. It isnt big but it was very nice to look at. Someone took some time creating the atmosphere and it totally worked out. I ordered the Seni'ya, it was amazing!!! I never had anything like it before. I saw the ingredients and I knew I had to give it a try. I love trying new things and I love it more when they turn out super awesome! Ground beef and lamb with alot of tasty spices and onions with tahini and pine nuts all on a hot skillet. It was really tasty. We had the hummus and the falafel appetizers which came with our lunches (decent lunch deal). The hummus had great texture but a touch on the bland side but that's fine and the while wheat pita was fluffy and hot! Great! The falafel was just okay. I had better ones. These didn't taste amazing and fell apart very easily. The sauce that came with it was also just okay. Their rice that they served with the entrees was very delicious as well. Overall I really like the restaurant and everything was fairly priced. They totally won me over! I'm coming back to eat everything else on the menu so be ready Hummus Kitchen!

Decent pricing for an eat around the area. It's a good place for a dinner or lunch. Mmm...I'd say maybe 8-12 dollar range a person? The service was somewhat attentive. If you're a regular, they're good with you. Also try to make some good conversation. Staff is nice and friendly. They won't bother you, and will go help you if you need it. I have tried the following: Lamb sirloin & hummus: nice mix. fresh. Moroccan Fish with peppers & couscous: It was alright. Something was sour, probably the lemon in it. Appetizer of falafel, baba ghanoush, and some other thingy: Nice and healthy. The BREAD is a WIN! Warm & fluffy, good and fresh. I think that wins the place pretty good points.

After walking by this place in my neighborhood everyday, I finally stumbled in after a Sunday Funday because I decided I really wanted some hummus. What I thought was more of a grab-n-go take out shop turned out to be an adorable sit down eatery. Ended up sitting (had a friend in tow) and ordering hummus in addition to a great (and enormous) salad. The food was delish and our waiter was especially accommodating and friendly. He gave us some tips on the wine selection and even let us do a taste test between two varietals before purchasing a bottle. Will definitely be back.

You know how happy all those people in the Olive Garden ads look - all familial and loud and happy about their never-ending pasta? The people at Hummus Kitchen are ACTUALLY like that. Luckily, that's the only thing Hummus Kitchen has in common with the Olive Garden. The hummus was creamy and warm with big chickpeas on top, and my babaganoush was the best I've had in years. I lied - like the Olive Garden's stomach-painingly enormous portions, Hummus Kitchen also rocks the cheap-and-generous angle. So two similarities, but I swear, that's it.

This place is so fucking legit it makes my eyes water just thinking about how dominant it is. Hummus the way it should be -- warm, flavorful, with rich ingredients and ample soft pita bread for dipping. Somehow Hummus Kitchen manages to do all this for reasonable prices. They've even succeeded in making their tiny 3rd Ave space stylish and comfortable. I've gotten take out from here many times, and I think the portions are pretty solid. UPDATE: My previous rating of 5 stars has been knocked down to 3 because Hummus Kitchen has now failed to deliver to our office in a reasonable amount of time three times in a row. I'm talking about hour+ long delays for lunch orders placed at 10:00 a.m.

A small place in the city.. Tried the hummus platter and liked 2/4 so it wasn't too bad. I also had the diced apple cider with brandy, it was great for my cold. They only serve beer and wine FYI. Service was up to par and the Falafel wrap was pretty good. My friend had the platter which seemed typical but I would stick with the wrap as it was delicious. It was reasonably priced for the city and i'll surely go back to snack.

Great food, and great service! I got the mazze trio with the falafel, beets, and rice, and it was all so good. The falafel was some of the best that I had ever had and it was very crisp on the outside but really soft in the middle. The beets were also delicious. My sister got the chicken cous cous and she loved it...she said it was very flavorful and she would definitely get it again. The waiters were also very attentive and the food came out extremely quickly. I would absolutely recommend it, and I will definitely be returning!

Had dinner here last night. Great addition to the Murray Hill area. Every time I've walked by it's been packed. First, it's BYOB and no corkage fee. Score! Second, the staff is extremely nice and helpful in helping you decide what to eat if you are unsure. I tried the falafel, beets, and babaganoush. The least favorite dish was the beets as it lacked flavor. The babaganoush was my favorite. I liked the small chunks of eggplant. I also tried the hummus which was creamy and smooth. Both these spreads are homemade and you can tell. My friend had a chicken dish which was really flavorful. Portions and prices are great. I just wish they made their own pita/flatbread to go with the spreads. One thing to note is the place is small and they have a lot of tables crammed in, so if you're looking for something intimate, I wouldn't go here. Also, it can get loud as well. Glad to have another spot to go to if I'm craving some simple mediterranean food.

Been here a number of time, price incredible for what you get, food's great and service is accommodating. Portions on the Mazze's are small and priced accordingly. Highly recommend the wraps, mushroom hummus and the baba ganoush A staple on my Med. restaurant list!

Not feeling it. bad service and poor food. its called the Hummus Kitchen and it served bad hummus the one time i went. without getting into much detail, the only thing saving grace from a 1 star was this lemon and mint drink that was delicious.

When a friend and I dined here a few weeks ago, we were in for a nice long treat. First off, the restaurant is BYOB and there are several wine shops in 2-3 block distance for a bottle at $10 or cheaper. We ordered hummus, shakshuka (so good), roasted cauliflower (not so tasty), and falafel. I love the taste here of the food and the warm pitas they serve as healthy as you can get with whole wheat. The dessert was on the house. The service was super fantastic, friendly, and prompt. However, expect a wait as the place gets a bit crowded sometimes, even during a Wednesday time.

This place was great. Lots of great healthy hummus options, and falafels that were perfect! Everything was so fresh, and flavorful. We even attempted to recreate one of their dishes with quinoa at home. Good stuff! For me to give a 5 star rating to a casual dining place means the food made a HUGE impression on me. We visited just before the start of Hurricane Irene, and loved our meal so much, we actually ordered a bunch of take out to stock up for the next day instead of waiting in line at the grocery store. It was worth it. Small dining room, but they serve you pretty quickly.

YUM YUM YUM! Really simple food, cheap, extremely cute inside & BYOB! (that don't charge a cork fee)! Went there last night for a quick catch up with one of my best girlfriends, and we sat there for two hours. Drinking wine, talking and nibbling on their yummy hand/home made whole wheat pita, hummus(which came out warm :-/ but oh so good, and baba ganoush (creamy and chill) and the oval shaped falafel (which were bright green inside for all the parsley that I assume they add). Since my friend wasn't hungry I didn't want to pig out alone, and we didn't order an entree. I'm not saying the portions are huge, but nice value. Our dinner came to $10 for a bottle of Malbec I bought at a winery up the block and our bill came to 9.98 plus tax it was 10.50! (once again no corking fee!) I'll be coming back here for a chill catch up dinner with my girls and family :) Can't say it's a first date kinda place but the decor is def up to par, just the laminated menus aren't too cute. But if your in the mood for a homey-cheap-date-mood, this is the spot! check it out for yourself.

i personally think they have one of the best lunch specials around. you get a free appetizer with any dish weekday at lunch, dine in or take out. i love their healthy variety of tasty treats!! i happened to be in the neighborhood this past weekend and saw their sign out front for brunch 16 dollar price fix for a whole lot of food and variety with a five app taster included with hot tea and coffee. as if that wasnt enough there is a bottomless sangria(red or white) and\or mimosa for just $4. probably one of nyc's best kept secrets

the food. the service. it was great! i had the green tahini kebab for dinner; my boyfriend had the vegetable couscous. i like vegetables, but i really love meat. i won that round! to start we had the three appetizers for $11 or $12. i don't know what they do to their cauliflower, but it's something magical because it's the one vegetable i don't enjoy. the beets and buraka (bureki? not sure what it's called) were the other two appetizers which were also good, but the cauliflower is slammin'. and for dessert - baklava that the waiter recommended. i'm a fan of baklava in general and this was really good!! the service was very friendly and fast. we didn't have any alcohol, but they did have some israeli wines which i thought was interesting. we've been to the new one on the UWS side for brunch, and we are officially fans.

It really pains me to write this review. I've been a Hummus Kitchen fan for over a year and I consistently LOVE their food, but the service is HORRIBLE. It's a cute little place if you eat there, but be prepared to have a really, really long meal. I started ordering delivery because I couldn't stand the service, but the delivery is even worse. I've waited over an hour and a half for my food before (usually the wait is about an hour fifteen--still too long), and when I call to see what the deal is, they are often rude and unhelpful. One time, the delivery guy delivered my food to the wrong address--and I didn't even get so much as an apology. I would say ordering takeout is the best option, but check your order...they've messed mine up a few times. Once again, LOVE the food, but only go to the Hummus Kitchen if you really have the patience for it. Also, if you do try it, go for the brunch. It's fantastic!

Loved this little place! Got the red med. chicken , it was excellent , the goldstar beer was not a highlight but I can check that off the beer list. Falafel was good. Nice morrocan-ish atmosphere. Dine inside or out ...

Relatively new place in a very busy area of Kips Bay. The entire space, including outdoor seating during the summer, equates to less than 15 tables. However, the friendly staff, simple menu and reasonable prices make it a favorite of mine. I highly recommend for both lunch and dinner, but weekend brunch is a special treat! Enjoy.

I really do love the Hummus Kitchen on the Upper East Side. However, my experience at the Murray Hill location was really poor. The food was of only slightly lower quality however the staff was truly terrible. First of all, they did not allow my friend to add grilled chicken to the quinoa salad which she has done at the UES location. Instead, the manager actually had the nerve to recommend that she order both the quinoa salad ($8.95) and the grilled chicken entree - which comes with a different salad - for $11.95. That recommendation was far from accommodating. Our waiter seemed very "new" and awkward. He handed me a plate of vegetables instead of setting it on the table. Fine, I'll cut him some slack. When it came time to pay, they were having an issue with their credit card machines. They came over to inform us and two other tables that it'll just be another 5 minutes. 20 minutes later, they still have not resolved the situation. They were extremely rude to my friend and the manager actually disappeared into the kitchen and downstairs, leaving her waitstaff to deal with a group of angry customers. We finally suggested to our waiter that he take down our credit card information and charge us later. As he's taking imprints of our cards, the manager returns and says "Oh, that's a good idea." Ya think?! She rolled her eyes at us multiple times and was never apologetic about the 30+ minute wait to run our credit cards. It would've been nice for someone to take responsibility and offer some compensation for our wasted time. Next time I'm craving Hummus Kitchen, I will stick to the UES location.

Hummus Kitchen is by far the best of the hummus chains. All of their locations are equally good, serving fresh hummus with great add ons like chicken and mushrooms. Their delivery is fast (cash only) and the prices are cheap. Definitely better than Hummus Place and Nanoosh. If you go at lunch you get a free mezze, so try the cauliflower with green tahini..steamed fresh and super yummy.

I came here a few weeks ago with some girl friends. We each got the 3 dish sampler, and all enjoyed it + a pitcher of sangria and baklava to share. The food was tasty and very reasonably priced, service was good, sangria was good and reasonably priced, backlava was good (too small to share with 3 people though, it's more for one person or two people who don't want too much). The decor was very nice as well - clean and good decoration. Service was good. I can't wait till they open their location on the upper west side, I will be a regular customer then.

Hummus Kitchen is a delightful little neighborhood spot. One day my friend and I decided to walk down third avenue and find a restaurant the old school stumble upon way. We've been coming back ever since. The hummus here is smooth and creamy. They obviously skin the chic peas, something enough places don't take the time to do. This makes a huge difference in the ultimate texture of the hummus. Usually I order the sirloin hummus which comes with a stew of ground beef & lamb, onion, paprika, parsley & extra virgin olive oil. It also comes with two large pieces of pita bread (white or wheat), which you can dunk in the hummus. So good! The sangria here (both the white and the red) is also excellent. You can taste the brandy. Make sure to catch it during happy hour when the drinks are much cheaper.

Around 9pm my mom and I were looking for a quick bite. We were walking down 3rd ave and not much was open due to the holiday. I looked up on yelp and saw Hummus Kitchen looked decent so we decided to go. Well... The 2 star rating is for the amazing hummus and great falafel, which was homemade. I really enjoyed both. My mom ordered a salad that sounded pretty good. It was mixed greens with grilled chicken. When the salad arrived there was only spinach and the grilled chicken... No mixed greens. My mom more than likely wouldn't have ordered the salad if it was just spinach considering that's just not something she really cares for. When my mom had asked why the waitress explained that the kitchen had run out of all other greens and only had spinach available. Understandable that things do happen, but she should have let her know to give her the opportunity to either order something else or ask if that was something she still wanted. She was kind enough to offer something instead of the missing ingredients, but it was still disappointing. The service on the other hand was awful. A little surprised considering there was only two other tables seated at the time. We had asked for a second piece of pita bread twice and had to wait for about 10 minutes. It seemed that they were very preoccupied with take out orders. The waitress disappeared when we received the check and we ended up walking up to the front to pay because we couldn't wait any longer. Overall not the best experience.

Unimpressed. The multiple hummus dish was just the same hummus with different things on top of it, not much flavor to either the topping or the hummus itself. I was never even talked to by a waitress or waiter they just came over to my table expecting me to just say what I wanted. Nice decor.

The perfect inexpensive lunch place. Here you get delicious healthy food. I had lunch here several times and very much enjoyed the food. The menu is varied and full of yummy vegetarian dishes. I live in the area and am very happy to have this little gem in the hood. I definitely recommend Hummus kitchen to everyone who appreciates good food.

Upon further review, really only the hummus is good. And they were out of four different menu items last night. Maybe reduce expectations a bit before going.

Hummus was great, the pita was warm and toasty but the service was not good. The waitress offered to bring over more pita but never returned with it. A busboy noticed we still had hummus left so he brought over another piece of pita bread. The salad was ok but nothing grand and disappointed as I was told it was grilled chicken over mixed greens. Only a bit if spinach leaves were on the bottom. Had to wait so long for a check that I walked up to the counter to pay. Seems like they do lots of deliveries. If you try this restaurant, I'd advise take out only, besides the awful service the wooden bench was not comfortable to sit on.

Had lunch for the second time at Hummus Kitchen today...my thoughts: Service - Food took FOREVER to come. At least 30 minutes...and the restaurant was 15% occupied. So obviously this is a problem at this restaurant (see my previous review). Food - *The Quinoa / Chickpea special with Kale was a giant disappointment. Presentation wasn't appealing in the least. *My daughter had a Lamb Laffa and the meat was burned on the outside, and undercooked on the inside. *My husband's Chicken Kabob was fine but the rice was dry. Overall - We won't be returning as there are far too many better options in the area.

They have a lunch special from Monday to Friday, which is a free Mazze with any order of Hummus / Laffa / Platter / Shakshuka / Salad. Babaganush: broiled eggplant mixed with tahini paste. Cold, very creamy. Baby Eggplant: served with tahini & lemon dressing. Deliciously warm. Chickpea Hummus: topped with whole chickpeas, paprika & extra virgin olive oil. Thick and creamy. Stuffed Quinoa & Lentil Butternut Squash: topped with spicy house sauce, chopped salad (tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, parsley and mint mixed with lemon and extra-virgin olive oil), and mesclun. There was a nice mix of flavor from the spiciness of the quinoa contrasting with the sweetness of the butternut squash. It's a half squash which is a good meal portion. Hot Apple Cider (without alcohol) with cinnamon stick, pieces of apple and lemon. A sweet hot beverage for a cold day. Molten Chocolate Cake: filled with nuggets of halva, served with Anis vanilla sauce. "Baked to order." I love that! "Allow extra 10 minutes." Those minutes are worth the wait for a piping hot cake. It's bittersweet and I like my chocolate bitter. I was intrigued by the anis vanilla sauce which was good. They are listed on the Clean Plates book. :)

All types of hummus, appetizers, and drinks. Something for everyone on the menu for vegans and meat eaters alike. Tasty Middle Eastern food in a nicely set up (but small) space. Service is attentive. Place was clean. Hummus platter is great for sharing, and I love their warm and fluffy pita bread - very good - problem is I wanted to eat the whole basket by myself! Being able to partake in an Israeli beer here is a bonus. Keeping it real. They have multiple locations around the city. A bit pricey but decent overall if in a mood for hummus.

It's a cozy spot to catch up with friends or even a quiet night out with the S.O. If you come to Hummus Kitchen, you must try their hummus! I got the hummus platter which came with 4 different types of hummus (no meat), all of which were creamy and delicious! Their homemade pita bread is wonderfully soft and perfectly complements the hummus. If you prefer your meat, I also highly recommend the chicken hummus. It's a lot less oily than the sirloin hummus, but they're both equally as delicious. I also tried their Kebab wrap. The meat was a little charred, I wasn't too fond of it. I also tried their $5 sangria (during happy hour), which they made delightfully strong!

Had chicken kebab skewers, a kale and quinoa salad, and a kebab wrap of beef and lamb. The food was ok according to everyone. Service still quite slow at lunch time. Value for money doesn't really make sense given alternatives that are nearby. While nothing glaringly at issue, not sure about likelihood to return.

Got a veggie laffa to go for dinner. Decent. Healthy. Light. Eggplant and roasted red pepper was good. Garbanzo beans in it were nice added texture. I ordered it with sauce on side, thinking of some sort of yogurt sauce or anything they might add now listed on menu. Instead they put the hummus on the side. Or at least I think it was hummus, since it was a thin hummus with lemon and tahini flavor. Not bad.. Easy to pour onto laffa at least. Kind of pricy for what it was. $13. (I will never understand NY food prices.) But overall good. Nice and light for a late night dinner.

My fave spot in the area for a light dinner. I usually find myself here before or after a movie at the AMC. The signature salad, grape leaves, falafel and mushroom hummus are my faves. Their laffa wraps make a compact but filling meal too. The place is cute in a shabby-chic kind of way, and service is friendly but sometimes slow.

I had a craving for mid eastern food that would not quit so I walked over for some lunch. I had the lunch special with my main as Sabich (basically a hard boiled egg, eggplant, pickle sandwich) and the babaganoush as my side. The sandwich was soooo delicious but the babaganoush was too creamy and mayonaisey for my liking- I like chunky, dry babaganoush. The other reason why I snubbed them a star was because for what you get, the price is pretty ridiculous. I guess you can get away with that in Kips Bay but I probably won't go back.

We came here with another couple of an early dinner on a Sunday evening. I have been to one of their locations in Hell's kitchen but this was my first time at the Murray hill location. I ordered the Moroccan mint tea and everyone else ordered the sangria (which is available in red or white wine). We got the red white sangria; personally this was not my favorite sangria it felt was a bit sweet and didn't really have many fruits except for oranges really. The tea was really nice, and I asked for honey with my Moroccan mint tea which made it slightly sweet and absolutely delicious (brought back memories of home - I am from Abu Dhabi). For entrees, we decided to get and we ordered two plates of the mazze platter (which you can order with 3 sides each). We got the hummus, baba ganoush, roasted cauliflower, stuffed grape leaves, mujadra and quinoa. Since I am gluten free, they got crudités for me and got a warm pita for my friend. The boys ordered the Mediterranean red chicken which comes with a broth-y sauce and with a side of mujadra rice. They also bring out this green spicy sauce if you ask for it, so if you like spicy food I would recommend asking them for some. I pretty much liked all the items in the mazze platter, the hummus was delicious, the baba ganoush creamy, the mujadra was yummy (its basically long grain rice cooked with lentils), the stuffed grape leaves was not only delicious but also served hot. The only items I wasn't a huge fan was the cauliflower which was a little underdone and bland and the quinoa which I thought lacked seasoning. I am vegetarian so I didn't try the chicken but my boyfriend said that the chicken was cooked very well, was tender and moist, but the sauce was too runny and perhaps would have been better served with a thick gravy type sauce. At the end my boyfriend and friend ordered the Turkish coffee, which turned to be really horrible - it was grainy and runny (almost like a watered down espresso). We tried to send it back, but the server refused to comp us even though it was badly prepared, which to me doesn't sound the best way to deal with customers. But overall, it was a casual no fuss dining experience on a lazy Sunday night.

This place is clutch for a weekend lunch or brunch. I actually had a Sunday brunch with a friend after browsing the City at a different location years ago. And I have to say that each of them has a slightly different vibe, but equally great quality food. The location in Murray Hill comes across as a bit more crowded and fast-paced. I actually got take out this time of the falafel, which was fairly large for $9. It was filled with chopped salad and pickles, topped with tahini, and served with amazing sauces. I heard that the Super Healthy Salad with apricots, cranberries, walnuts, and quinoa is amazing. Last time, I got the lentil soup and hummus appetizer with chicken kebab. I would recommend sitting in for a quiet lunch here. The stay-in menu is very varied and peaceful atmosphere. Baklava and Turkish coffee are a treat! And don't miss out on ordering any of the hummus platters. Definitely recommended, would opt for upper east side location.

People who work here are amazingly friendly. I love the staff!. Food is top-notch, menu is varied. Very vegetarian and even vegan friendly restaurant. I would come back in a New York minute to either sample more things on their mouth watering menu or flirt with the very friendly waitress.

Hummus bum-mus. This place left me disappointed. Yeah, yeah - I know it's a kosher meat spot, so fuggedabout the dairy, but seriously - shakshuka without cheese is a crime. Thinking their spinach version might make me forget about the disappearance of dairy, I went for it. Served at room temp, their Green Shakshuka dish consisted of the classic tomato stew with two small poached eggs and about 10 baby spinach leaves steamed on top. Somehow, my beloved Hummus Place finds a way to always serve a piping hot, bubbling skillet version where the eggs still burst open with perfectly runny yolk. So, maybe shakshuka isn't the way to go here, but it's hard to bring yourself to spend $18-22 on a bleh entree for lunch at a joint as casual as this. The lunch "special" of a free baby appetizer isn't great, especially when you're served up a too-creamy baba gha-mooosh instead of traditional baba, thick with actual strands of smoked eggplant. The baba ghanoush app I ordered had a texture combination somewhere between hummus and yogurt. Ba-bleh. We also ordered the overpriced chicken hummus, and the ratio of chicken to orange-y olive oil to hummus was 1:3:5. I hope you like their pita - you'll need it to soak up this stuff. The brunch special actually sounds pretty decent, and the service here is very friendly. Cute ambiance, and they don't rush you out. Honestly, my little Hebrew heart wishes I wasn't bitchin' about this Kitchen, but it seriously bummed me (and my wallet) out. Go to Hummus Place in West Village!

I haven't been in NYC since 2011, but the last time I was there, I lived right around the corner on 30th between 3rd and 2nd and came to Hummus Kitchen all the time. OMG. I swear, I miss this place so much.. Haven't had amazing shakshuka since the last time I was there... plus, this place had the best hummus I've ever eaten in my life. I live in Oregon, but I think about this place with misty eyes and longing...

I walk by Hummus Kitchen everyday and one day I randomly walked in for dinner. We had a very friendly server (5 stars for the server). SHakSHUka Classic I really like raw yolk and I was very excited when I saw the dish. It looked better than it tasted. The server recommended and I wish I picked something else. I learned warm tomato is not my thing. I wish it had more spices - the dish was too bland for me. Seni'ya My friend had this and when I asked her how it was she said "she doesn't hate it". She wished she had more carbs (pita/rice) Home-made Lemonade with Mint Leaves Server told us that we can add a special alcohol to our drinks with 'traditional' alcohol that tasted like cloves.

I've passed by so many times and finally after having a rough morning and I missed my yoga class, I decided to eat in. It is a cute decor, quite girly. I Live the window seats - for lunch you get a free appetizer. I got the falafel sandwich with babaganoush. I honk they've raised the price... The falafel sandwich is now $9. It looks small at first but I was more than full when I finished. Price is steep for falafel sandwich but I can taste they use fresh ingredients and it satisfied my falafel cravings.

A good choice for Mediterranean fare, particularly if you're in the area for lunch. It can be a bit pricier than other places as their entrees start at $9 and the prices just climb from there. The lunch specials come with a complimentary side. I chose the grape leaves and they were only all right. I tried my friend's hummus instead and that was very fresh and light. There's a warm, sticky-ish yogurt sauce on top of the grape leaves that kind of weirded me out. I recommend getting their falafel wrap. It's absolutely humongous and probably some of the best falafel I've ever had, super crunchy and full of flavor. The service is rather unnecessarily dismissive and rushed when we first walked in and then the server was nowhere to be found after that. Next time we come back, it'll definitely be for takeout, not dine-in.

I'm currently munching on my leftover falafel wrap from yesterday (they're huge) and though it doesn't reheat well in the oven, Hummus Kitchen gets a solid 4 stars. The hummus is so airy but creamy, decorated with chickpeas and the baba ghanoush is also a solidly delish choice as well. I love the super healthy salad (tastes far better than it sounds and the dressing is great!) and the falafel wraps. They come packed with pickles, salad and creamy tahini. I've also tried the shakshuka which was fine, nothing to write home about. They have a lunch special where you get a free mezze with your order which makes the higherthanusual lunch price easier to take. The ambiance is unexpectedly nice - modern with jewel-toned accents. All in all, a great spot for lunch.

They've overtaken Hummus Place for taste, service and value, but seriously $13 for Hummus?? When did it get so pricey? Hummus Place charges $4 less but the portion is far less generous. Still good...proper lemonana drink too. I don't know, I guess I"m getting old and stingy.

I've ordered Seamless from here several times - the Falafel Laffa is the best deal - you get a good sized wrap and mine even had an extra falafel on the side! I also got the Chicken Hummus - for the portion size, it seemed a bit expensive at $13. I got it with veggies instead of pita and the veggies weren't that appetizing...the cucumber was gross (threw it out), the carrots were super thick (that's what she said...) and the celery was fine. It didn't seem like enough to dip, even before I threw out the cucumber. Stick to the LAFFA!

Hummus kitchen is a great place to grab a delicious, fresh meal with a cozy bohemian environment. The prices are very reasonable. The space is on the smaller side but doesn't feel cramped. The wine options are fabulous. They do not use dairy so you don't have to worry about allergies nor should you worry that there food lacking flavor or proper consistency. Their dishes are bursting with other amazing flavors. The hummus is very fresh and satisfying. The staff is very, very nice and accommodating. Looking forward to going back again.

I just moved into the area and was looking for something healthy and middle eastern. This place was absolutely amazing! The food was fresh and delicious and the service was great. I am gluten free and was very sad that they didn't have any gluten free pitas, I ordered the hummus anyways and when it came the waitress also brought me a plate of fresh vegetables to eat it with! My experience here was wonderful and I have already been back another time!! Everything I have tasted has been wonderful! You really can't go wrong with this place!

I used to order take-out from here, but the prices have risen noticeably. Quality was fine, but not remarkable. It's simply hard to justify spending 40 bucks on take-out for two on just hummus, which is one of the cheapest foods in the world to produce.

I considering Hummus Kitchen a "sure thing". It is by no means the best middle eastern food in the city, but you can't go wrong here. The food is fresh and decent size portions. Service is good and outdoor seating is a nice option. Their brunch is nice and has a good bottomless option. I definitely see myself coming back for my middle eastern fix without breaking the bank.

The Hummus Kitchen is great. The food is always delicious and the staff is incredibly nice and helpful. I've been here a few times, and my favorite dish (especially if you love lamb) is the Green Tahini Kebab. All the hummus flavors are great, but in my opinion the best is the Egyptian hummus (with egg and tahini).

Sunday night was my first time in Hummus Kitchen. I absolutely loved it! Why? Well the ambiance is beautiful, the food is great and our service was top notch! Our server, Ayesha, was so friendly, she was very knowledgable and just the sweetest girl! By recommendation, we ordered the Mediterranean Red Chicken and Spring Chicken platter. Both were phenomenal! We also got a mezze of cauliflower, grape leaves and beets which were excellent, thanks to Ayesha, yet again! While waiting for our entrees we decided to try a cocktail, we were recommended the Mediterranean Mojito and the Whisky Mojito. Loved them both. The food took a little long, which wasn't a problem at all because we were enjoying everything about this place, our server then brought us a mezze of hummus with pita because we were waiting! I haven't gotten such VIP service anywhere else. I love Hummus Kitchen. I will definitely be back for more! I recommend this place to everyone!! Our dinning experience was just that much better because of service. Thank you!! It is definitely worth traveling to.

One of my all time favorite places in the hood. Delicious food, consistently. The grape leaves are the best I've ever had, and the green tahini lamb meatballs, the couscous, and the green shakshuka are all amazing. Also its a kosher kitchen so they use tahini instead of dairy, which I think is awesome. I seriously crave this place when I go out of town. But more importantly, this may be the best undiscovered brunch place in the city! $14.95 for a delicious entree I usually go for the Moroccan Benedict or Shakshuka) and ALL of the appetizers (which are all amazing), plus coffee or tea. Sooo much delicious, healthy food. You feel full but not gross. And it's never crowded. I don't get it. Do yourself a favor and get to this place for brunch NOW!

All I can say is that this place is average. You can get much better Mediterranean food in the city, but if you're looking for a quick med-food fix this is a good spot for unauthentic, Americanized med-food.

I'm a big fan of eating healthy vegan/vegetarian food. For me, Hummus Kitchen always satisfies my Mediterranean cravings WITHOUT making me feel guilty or gross afterward. They also deliver, which is great for busy days at the office :). I usually get their super healthy salad. It's, essentially, quinoa with yams, craisins, walnuts, and a delicious mint dressing. The mint really ties the other flavors together, making it a light and crisp quinoa dish. I have also had their babaganush and hummus, which are totally on point. The whole wheat pitas are yummy, too!

U go through ups and downs with this place. Several times I have ordered a laffa and they delivered the wrong one. I have eaten in the actual restaurant twice. I think the food tastes worse when I actually eat there, not sure why that happens. Anyway I insisted my sister had to try the place she found black hair in her laffa and ate maybe 2 bites of it.

The food here is unbelievable! My favorite is the winter cous cous and chicken dish. Tastes like it was cooked in a slow cooker for hours, falls apart, flavorful, just unbelievable! The hummus and fresh pitas are something to not miss. A great place to take out from!!

Have had only one takeout - the green tahini kabob, which was really good, a bit pricey but you also get a side of chickpeas hummus and a couple of pitas, so not a bad deal. And I liked the interesting hot sauce they gave on the side, which added a good kick. The kabob was better than the few other kabobs I've had in NYC, which I guess is not that high a benchmark. Holding back the last star from a value perspective. While the kabob was very good, for $18 the quantity was a little light

We were looking for a reasonably priced place with great food and vegetarian options. After reading the reviews on Yelp, we chose Hummus Kitchen. I'm so glad we did. We all enjoyed our meals. The food was fresh and tasty. The portions were a normal size and priced accordingly. We tried the 3-appetizer special, which were a nice size to get a taste and not spoil dinner. We'll be back again!

MMmmm Hummus Kitchen. At affordable prices ($10 a head), great portion size (left me belly up and defeated), with interesting drinks (pomegranite lemondate), and delicious food (mushroom hummus with whole wheat pita, olives on the side, falafel sandwich wrap) the ordinary service is easily forgotten. This is the only part of HK I didn't enjoy. I really enjoyed sitting outside on a bustling street and having some quality Hummus. Well done, a nice change from the food on 3rd.

Do not have food delivered unless you have at least 1 hour to spare waiting!! I have ordered food from them about 3-4 times and every time I give them a chance to redeem themselves, I wind up waiting forever. Tonight I tried ordering online, received my confirmation email and they claimed to have never gotten my order (1.5 hours later). When I called to ask where my food was, the person on the phone claimed to check on it and then said it was on its way. When I called back 20 minutes later, it appears he lied about checking on my order, and now they never got it to begin with. They barely even apologized. They just didn't care. Nice!

Do not order food from here - ever! While the food is good, their inability to consistently provide it in a timely fashion makes this place not worth the effort. Instead, I highly suggest you walk down the street to Ali Baba or any of the other great places with good customer service. The most recent example (not the only one), of why I would avoid this place involved us placing an order for pick up. When we arrived at the specified time, our order had been sent out for delivery (even though we had emphasized several times on the phone that we would picking up). Instead of immediately replacing our order, the front of the house tried to call the delivery guy for 10 minutes to no avail. They then promised that our food would be replaced in 5 minutes, 10 minutes later, no food (even though they had passed through several other people's orders and ours did not even require cooking). The staff member trying to help us received no backup whatsoever from the senior management, who apparently expected us to wait forever. After it was clear that they were only interested in wasting our time, we left. 10 minutes later, when we were waiting for our food in another restaurant , they offered to give us the cold food they'd accidentally sent out 40 minutes before for free - eww and gross, no thanks. In summary, they wasted an hour of our precious time, while the restaurant down the street had hot and fresh food for us in under 10 minutes.

I really wanted to like this place, but I was disappointed. I ordered a chicken lafa sandwich, my boyfriend ordered a chicken platter which was over $6 more. For some reason my sandwich had a lot more chicken in it then his. His platter was about 4 small pieces of chicken, he left the place hungry.... Maybe their brunch is better.

Hummus Kitchen is a great neighborhood restaurant and a new staple for me. The food was yummy, service excellent and the ambiance was relaxed and welcoming. MUST HAVES: hummus, mediterranean red chicken, kadaif; I'm not a dessert person, but the kadaif was amazing - it was the perfect top off to a fantastic dinner.

This place used to have the best hummus and lived up to its name. The place has gone downhill and the hummus now tastes bland and watery. The other food is OK but does not stand out from other Mediterranean restaurants in the area.

I went to this restaurant about 3 weeks ago. It was a very mild evening in January. The inside was very crowded, so we sat out. With our coats on, it was quite pleasant. I love hummus and middle eastern food, and I am very particular when it comes to its preparation. They specialize in different flavored hummus, so we ordered the sampler platter. There was mushroom, eggplant, fava bean and traditional. I hate to say it, but they all tasted alike with a bit of the flavoring dumped in the middle. I have definitely had better hummus, including the one I prepare at home myself. I will not be returning.

A brand-new chain restaurant that opened last month. I went with a group of 4 friends on Friday because we were under the impression that it was BYOB because of other reviews on yelp. However, when we got there we were told that the restaurant is no longer BYOB because they got their liquor license on Thursday (4/14). That totally sucks. To add insult to injury, a larger group of 8 women that occupy a table next to us with their own bottle of wine and no one says anything to them. Let me get to the food. According to my friends the food ordered was so-so. The hummus was a little watery so maybe it was a bad batch. This would be minor thing, but when the name of the restaurant is called Hummus Kitchen you expect your hummus to taste a lot better. I probably ordered the best thing of the menu which was the Moroccan Tilapia ($16) with couscous. It was flavorful and tasted very good. My only gripe was that the portion was small. Perhaps if they had more interesting things on the menu I would probably give this place a second chance, but that is unlikely given this is a chain.

I have eaten here a few times and each time I was very satisfied. Great hummus and very good Mediterranean dishes. For the cheap price, I could not ask for anything more. I plan on continuing to go back.

All I can say is that this place is average. You can get much better Mediterranean food in the city, but if you're looking for a quick med-food fix this is a good spot for unauthentic, Americanized med-food.

The best Hummus and Shaksuka in the area. Their Falafel is also great, and when they have Goldstar in stock things are even better :)

Win-win? Yes.

  • Sean C.

This was the first time I ever had hummus, and it was amazing! I had the steak hummus and the regular chickpea hummus. A must to return to!
