Disappointed.....Ordered 2 pizzas and wings to-go, paid 45 bones and was given 2 burnt pizzas and wings that tasted like they were in a kitchen fire. My order should never have left the kitchen and I'm 100% that if I was dining in, it wouldn't have.....but because it was to-go they were all, f%&k it.

Order the wings, they are amazing. Cooked and then grilled briefly for flavor. When you finish them save the sauce, dip your pizza in the sauce. Amazing.

Ultra thin pizza cooked over a grill never disappoints and the selection of beers are phenomenal. Casual honest atmosphere with a hint of the quirky. The bartenders are great too, no pretense here for the uninitiated. .

Great place to grab dinner and drinks before a show at the Cap. Super friendly staff, casual atmosphere, good selection of beers on tap and yummy grilled pizza. The pizza has very-thin crust with fresh toppings in some intriguing combinations. We also enjoyed the arugula salad and it was more than enough to share between two of us. Prices are very reasonable.

I was in NY for business and found this place on Yelp. Super yummy pizza! We had the Dean Martin, I loved the pizza sauce and the crust was super thin, like pizza on a cracker! Wish I could take some home but I don't think it would make the 5 hour flight!

Great food, a bit run down atmosphere but the pizza quality overwhelms...will be back

Large, thin, light, cheesy, and flavorful 'pizza' that left me wanting more This place really surprised me. Definitely the best thin crust I've ever had, no contest. I tried three different pies and the 'rustic' was my favorite. The combination of truffle oil, mushrooms and quality cheese was delicious. The atmosphere here gives off a bit of a NYC hipster vibe with micro-brews available and some quality beers on tap. Although I didn't have any beer on this occasion, I definitely appreciated the options they offered. Service was on point. Our pizzas came out in 10-15 minutes and drink refills were constant. Although this is a 30 minute trek from my home I will definitely be back for more.

Pizza tasted amazing , soft yet lightly crispy with a rrrrrreally tasty sauce. Wings had a delicious taste as well and were very fresh. Everything was fresh . Atmosphere nicely lit, very warm cool atmosphere, with music , staff was nice as well. Will go back

I come here on Fridays for lunch. The Pizza is fantastic. Even the burger is on point. They have the best local beer menu around. Service is stellar. The only bad thing I can think of is my favorite bartender, Ari, no longer works lunch on Fridays.

Best thin crust pizza I've ever had! We had a late weekend lunch. Ordered Smokey Joe pizza , cheese burger and fries. Pizza was freshly baked and perfectly thin and crisp. A bit salty topping so might be better with beer. Cheese burger was very classic style but pattie was juicy. Fries was also good. Kind staffs ,cozy atmosphere. Will come again.

We went here in June, before a show at the Capitol. Living in the Metro New York Area you get to develop a pizza palette. The Coals menu did not suit my palette at all. The crust on our pie was soggy despite the grill marks on the top of the crust. It was also on the salty side They did serve a salad of arugala which I enjoyed. They did have a good selection of local beer on tap, which I did not have time to enjoy.

This place is as good as it gets to artisan pizza in Westchester County. A definite solid starter was the Caesar Salad with a side of duck bacon. Was introduced to duck here and it couldn't have been better! I had the Margarita & The Must Have. Both pies were excellent. Both consisted of a lighter crust which doesn't fill you up but allows you to finish your entire pie. Generously sized as a personal but make sure you come hungry to finish it. It's become a normal date spot but its also great for a bite to eat.

  • Jen H.

The food was really good. Although some might gripe, I like that the pizzas are so thin. It's all about the toppings, anyway. My favorites were the PURE BLISS and the MUST HAVE. The CRISPY BRUSSELS SPROUTS were delicious too. I'm already a fan of the sprouts, but they were good enough to convert a non-veggie eater. I would have given 5 stars, but the service was actually pretty terrible. Our female server was very unfriendly, borderline rude. Also, we had to wait an ungodly amount of time for our table, despite it being a weekday night. And prices are quite high, for Port Chester, but considering they are artisanal pizzas, it's justified. I do appreciate that they offer a free pint of beer with purchase of a pizza (before 6pm). Thanks to new and interesting restaurants, like Coals, Main St. is reclaiming it's former glory. You go, Port Chester!

I love this place!!!! Total bar atmosphere but in a really cool fun way. Amazing beer tap menu, fantastic pizzas (they grill them...very unique!) and really good apps...(loved the wings!). Not a lot of space so you could wind up waiting for a table and its loud but that adds to the experience. Highly highly highly recommend!!!

For a small place, coals has a lot going on. Great pizza, great burgers, and a great rotating craft beer list. I would give this place 5 stars except they really could expand their menu just a bit. Pizza, burgers and wings are a little limiting, although good since they cook them right. But you can't even get bacon on your burger because that's not an option (but duck bacon is an option). So I'll go back for the great beer selection, ambiance and burgers WITHOUT bacon :-(

This has become my wife's "favorite". I'd say that we go a couple of times a month. The wait staff is friendly and attentive. I'm on a "restricted diet", so I bring my own "fat free mozzarella" cheese. They know what I'm going to order, and hold out their hand for me to place he bag of cheese in. My wife loves the Dean Martin, as well as the grilled brussell sprouts. My wife and daughter enjoy trying the different beers. Always crowded, and for a good reason!!!

I have found this on yelp! At first I was surprised by the small place, but than than I experienced best thin crust pizza I ever had! Try the one with the truffle oil, to die for!

Amazing pies, wings, burgers and beers. A real gem of a dive in Port Chester. Thinnest grilled pizzas crusts in the game with great toppings. A must try.

My first re-RE review. Back to 4 stars...a few years in and they have developed a good rhythm with the staff. Used to have really issues with the service here, they have certainly settled this issue...staff was attentive and efficient. Food really good as always.

You have to come and try for yourselves! Haven't had a pizza quite like it, they are all thin crusted with homemade sauce that is to die for. The chefs pay attention to detail with every pizza pie! My favorite was the 'Pure Bliss' pizza that has three different kinds of cheeses along with an amazing pesto sauce! Very unique pizzas, large craft brew list! Must come & eat your heart out!

Fabulous! I was just there with a friend of mine and her entire family over the holidays. The food and service is simply superb. Doesn't really get any better than Coals. The beer menu is superior to the wine, which leaves us oenophiles a bit out in the cold. Given the quality of their ingredients, I think the wine list could certainly be improved. But, it's drinkable and the pizza is so damn delicious, you won't be able to talk about anything else! Given the amount of fresh garlic, I'm not sure the "heavenly scent" will have you or your breath smelling in the "heavenly" realm... but the taste is divine. Don't miss it. Frankly, I just can't wait to go back to Coals on my next visit to the Rye / Port Chester area. I can still taste that mouthwatering crust.

Excellent food. Go before 6:30 because the place fills up fast. The pizza is excellent thin crust. We their special wings that had some kind of bacon flavor hot sauce that was so good we used bread and pizza crust to soak up the last bits.

Great pizza, thin brick oven type. Salads awesome as was the Brussels sprouts appetizer. Nice selection of craft beer

great concept and beer! My sister and I went to visit this place last week and when we walked in it was packed and the hostess was in the corner and i'm assuming couldn't get to us. we walked out to go someplace else but we were really craving pizza! so we went back and got a table right away. however we were on top of another couple. The pizza was good we had the smokey joe and the rustic. The flavor was great but not super overwhelming i felt like the grill flavor took over the pizza a little to much but obviously it's grilled pizza. Personally i'm not sure if i'm a fan of grilled pizza bc it reminds me too much of burgers and I was worried they were cooked in the same spots, the owner assured me they were not [for any of you vegs out there]. But I don't like burgers. We moved to the bar after our meal and enjoyed great entertainment and service by Ari, the bartender, and eventually split a TO DIE FOR nutella pizza. This place is definitely a must try and different and if you love grill flavor definitely the place for you.

This restaurant is on our "go to" list when we are craving pizza! The grilled pizza is like something you can't get anywhere else. We also always order the Brussel sprouts for an appetizer which are awesome! Only complaint is that 5 out of 10 times I've been there, the pizza was a little overdone and bordered on the burnt side underneath. Still awesome enough to keep coming back!

I loved this place when it was in the Bronx and was so sad to see it move. However I visited its "new" location in Port Chester recently and sampled some of the new additions like local beer sampler and roasted brussel sprouts appetizers. Yum! The pizzas were as good as ever, but sad to see the paninis gone-- bring 'em back! Overall, this is a unique, delicious place. The soups are always good too.

Came here 3 weeks ago after an art show close by. I usually don't go out in this direction, but my GF had a piece of art work in a show, and we decided to take a road trip. After drinking some wine and hanging out in the nearby gallery space we all decided to grab dinner at Coals. Sasha said the pizza here was good, but I wasn't expecting this much. This place reminded me why I love pizza. My gf said I looked pretty happy wolfing down the equivalent of 2 whole pizzas. I tried like 5 different types of pizza. Everything was delicious. The thin cruzt was cooked perfectly, not burnt like a lot of pizza these days, and still light and delicate, but with a bight. The perfect vehicle to shovel fresh toppings and yummy cheese oozing together into my mouth. This was just very good thin crust pizza rustica. I would definitely come here again. The prices were very reasonable and the food was perfect, especially for the value. We met some other friend's here too. Two of then are chefs, and they also praised the fresh food and taste. Something about the owner having another store previously that was good. I didn't get to try the hamburger, but they gave the burger a thumbs up as well. I did pilfer a few of the French fries, and they were pretty ordinary, if not a little lack luster, so that was my one down side, but I wasn't expecting this place to have 5 star fries. It did have nearly 5 star pizza, with a fun and relaxed atmosphere and cheap food. The beer washed it down perfectly, giving me a wonderous meal, totally unexpected in this unknown area. Sasha, you know your locations and food spots! I was and am excited, and want to adventure more in Portchest. I hear the food is reasonably cheap, and if it is all as good and reasonable + yummy as here, I will start taking trips out to discover good cuisine.

3 1/2 stars* but I'll round up. This was probably the thinnest pizza I've ever had, but surprisingly filling. We opted to try the Margherita Pizza & the special pizza of the day (3 cheese, shiitake mushrooms, garlic, etc.) Verdict: Crust - extremely thin, no real crust. The grilled base was crunchy and slightly smoky. Cheese - the mozzarella on the Margherita was pretty good and basically the whole pie was covered. I couldn't taste all 3 cheeses on the special pie, but I'm sure they were all there. Sauce - slightly sweet and tangy. Good stuff Overall, the mushroom pie had a bit more flavor, but both pies were good. We were beyond stuffed after eating 2 pies.

Great pizza, atmosphere and staff. Had the dean Martin; I would definitely have it again. I recommend this spot for a family outing or even a date, the pizza pies are enough for two.

Cool vibe at this place. Ari, the bartender was friendly. Great selection of beers on tap and the thin crust grilled pizza was so delicious. I had the Rustica. Great ingredients, great flavor! We need a place like this back home in the Berkshires.

I really can't think of anything that was wrong with the entire experience at Coals today. I've been meaning to go here for a while now, but it just never worked out. The Brussels Sprouts appetizer was awesome. Really flavorful greens. I guess you can fry an unpopular veggie and put cheese on it and make it taste amazing. :-) On another trip I tried the black bean soup, which was also great. I had the rustic pizza, which was super light and fresh tasting. Perfectly crispy. Just great. Can't wait to try another on next time. Then I had this habanero flavored beverage which was really unique. Since that first trip I've tried a bunch of other pizzas. The great thing is they have so many veggie options. Most of them have been great. Finally, it was large group so we shared a nutella pizza. Really delicious. I mean, I think nutella is OK, but this nutella pizza was deliciously warm. I think the service could've been slightly better; I know a couple of people that kept trying to order beverages, but were unable to get our waiter's attention. Personally, I didn't have too many issues, though. I think that first time was a super-busy day. Subsequent visits have been better. One of the seeming managers served our table this past time and he was excellent. Definitely recommended and I hope to be back soon before my project in this area ends.

Great tasting pizza- unique. I've tried many different kinds and enjoyed them all but the absolute BEST is the fluffernutter dessert! Service is always good. I typically order the "must-have" but last time I had a friend get the pizza with the mushrooms on it and it was amazing!

Coals, in downtown Port Chester, serves pizza that is truly 'Italian-style' as is served in Italy. It is thin-crusted, fresh and delicious. The coal oven gives the pizza a unique taste, a good taste. Their soups are delicious too! The place has a cool vibe, like it should be in Greenwich Village. A big PLUS for Port Chester. Worth trying...I'll be going back.

  • Louise S.

Highly recommend! The pizza has the most amazing thin crust. I've tried about 5 different types and they're all SO good. Even the Nutella dessert pizza shouldn't be missed. I've also enjoyed their salads just as much.

My fourth time here and you can probably tell from my first review I really want this place to work. I called ahead on my way home from manhattan to order a pizza and wings for take out. When I called they told me it would be 15 minutes. I got there in 15 minutes and sat there waiting for another 15. I can see someone saying 15 and it being 20 but not taking twice as long as it should. Keep trying Coals.

Excellent food but be prepared to scarf it down. Both times I have been there the wait staff doesn't even give you time to TASTE your appetizer before bringing out the main dish. They are also ready to grab your dishes the second you out your food down onto your plate - even if you're not finished. Yes, their food is so delicious but I can't give anything better than a 3 because I've left feeling sick both times because I had to eat so fast.

Good spot close to the train station and center of town in Port Chester. Stopped in for a bite before a show at the Capitol Theater this Saturday. There was plenty of seating when I arrived around 5:30 and was completely packed by 6. Sat at the bar and they have a great beer selection with about 10 on draft which always seems to be rotating. The pizza is SUPER thin crust which allowed me to eat a whole pie (yes, I'm fat) without feeling bloated. I got the margarita which was fresh and delicious. The sauce has a nice acidity to it which complements the subtlety of the fresh mozzarella. Atmosphere is casual and they were playing some great music, catering to the hippies who were there before the Phil Lesh show. I'll definitely be back before my next show in Port Chester.

Stopped here for pizza, service was fine and the restaurant is cute inside. The margherita pie was just okay, the sauce on it was really good but some of the slices didn't have any. I also felt the pecorino cheese was a bit overwhelming.

The first time I went here I would of rated the place 5/5, it was amazing. Based off that experience I decided to get take out. The grilled buffalo wings was just grilled bones with an amazing buffalo sauce( I gave them two stars on this rating because of how good the sauce was). The pizza looked like it was dropped a few times and it looked like they cut some slices off to fit in the box.

Prior to coming to this establishment, I had never had grilled pizza. I am officially a FAN :) I started off with a Pear cider...there are about 8 beers on tap, some local and about another 15 in bottles. I then ordered the "Dean Martin" pizza...heavenly! It's super thin crust pizza, delicious tomato sauce, a few cheeses and pepperoni. Need I saw more!!! And for dessert...Nutella PIZZA! Heck yeah...I was stuffed from the pizza, but took it home...they had said that it tasted good cold...they weren't kidding! I had it for breakfast the next 2 days! The staff was warm, helpful and very attentive! I've been recommending it to all my friends and I am looking forward to my next visit!

COALS! This is usually the first place I bring someone if they come visit me. The wait is usually a little long but worth it. The Rustic pizza is the BEST pizza they have there in my opinion (topped with truffle oil and mushrooms, mmm.) The thin crust is to die for and they have a pretty okay beer selection. They need more stouts! I love that they do flights as well!

  • Aristotle L.

Awesome grilled thin crust pizza. I came here and had the Dean Martin; it was their pepperoni pizza. What I really liked about it was that it wasn't shaped like an ordinary "pie pizza" with the crust on the outside. It was very easy to finish and there wasn't any bland crust left over. I finished up with the Nutella Pizza. Not much to say about it. You can't go wrong with Nutella so it was definitely good. The bad part was that it was little messy to eat and I choked on the powdered sugar a few times.

Any restaurant that has great food and gets me Shazam-ing their music gets an extra star. I've been to Coal's with adults, kids, teens and everyone loves their super thin-crusted pizzas that have that nice grilled taste. We also love their arugula salad (get it every time) and the crispy Brussels sprouts. I'm not a beer drinker, but I know that people I've gone with really enjoy their beer selection and being able to get the flights so you can taste several. The place has kind of a cool, Williamsburg vibe (at least for the burbs) and the service is very prompt. You can go adults only or bring kids/teens. Keep in mind that since the pizza is so thin, a hungry teen can demolish an entire one by himself.

Pizza can come in a bunch of varieties - from the famous Chicago deep dish to thin crust. Coals Grilled Pizza, with its original location in the Bronx and latest in Portchester, NY, serves up a unique variety of pizza, with a hand-stretched crust seemingly made of pita bread. I recently checked out the Portchester location. Atmosphere The interior of Coals is fairly plain, with a quirkiness to it. A bar lines one side of the long and narrow restaurant, opposite a solid red-painted wall. The restaurant is definitely bright. Ample sunlight is let in through skylights dotting the high ceilings. Aside from a few random paintings strewn across the wall, a chalkboard menu and Presidential placemats, there isn't much to the place. From what I've been told, the interior is fairly similar to that of the previous tenants. On a Sunday afternoon, Coals was empty. I've heard this place is packed at night - mainly because of its "no reservations" policy - leaving diners to show up early in hopes of snagging a table. Food For a pizza place, Coals has an extensive beer list, with beers on tap from across the country as well as from local breweries. I quickly ordered the sampler - a tasting a four beers of my choosing. This came out on a chalkboard-coated plank, allowing the bartender to transcribe the name of each beer. Nice presentation. Up next was a pile of addictive Brussels sprouts, fried and tossed with some delicious sweet sauce (I wish I remembered what this was) as well as walnuts and raisins. These were delicious. They were very sweet, not too salty and had a nice crunch to them. For anyone that refuses to eat Brussels sprouts, I challenge them to try this dish and tell me they don't like it. I need to figure out how to make this at home. A plate of fresh house-made mozzarella, arugula and roasted red peppers added a touch of color to our table. This was all equally delicious. Whenever someone puts a huge ball of fresh mozzarella in front of me I'm not going to complain. I was very impressed with the portion size. I'd order this to start off the meal every time. The pizza is where Coals really differentiates itself. We ordered two pizzas - margherita and smokey joe. The first thing I noticed was the crust. Coals uses hand-shaped grilled pita bread (if it wasn't pita bread it sure looked and tasted like it) as its crust. This dough is rolled until it's very thin and grilled over a coal fire so you can see the grill marks. The pizzas seem to glow as they arrive at the table. The dough is clearly brushed with olive oil and this, along with the melted cheese, helps to give off this inviting sheen. They're cut into long rectangular slices and are so thin I quickly over-indulged. So much so that I lost count as to how many slices I ate! The pizza was incredible. My mouth is watering just thinking about it now. I can't begin to tell you how good this crust was - the grilling gave it a nice charcoal flavor. The pizza is extremely light but packed with flavor. Loved it! Service Our waitress, Samantha, never left our glasses empty and was at the ready to make sure everything was up to par. Since the place was empty we had the opportunity to really take our time, hang out and relax. There was never any pressure to wrap- up and leave. Value Appetizers average around $10 and pizzas range from $11 to $15. The value is staring you right in the face. I would have expected the prices to be at least a solid $5 higher all around. Great value with extremely reasonable prices. Keep it up. The Verdict Coals takes pizza and gives it a twist with a unique version of your typical pizza crust. As I'm sure you can tell, I loved their version and thought it really helped allow you to taste all the ingredients of the pizza without having to chew on lots of dough. Kudos to Coals. I definitely will be back and recommend checking them out. I may just have to experiment in the kitchen and try to cook up some of this type of pizza myself.

The pizza was good, wish it had been more crispy. It was quite flavorful. Hubby enjoyed the beer flight. The stout was his fave. The grilled spicy wing appetizer was my fave. No room for dessert this trip.

A very cute and cozy spot in downtown Port Chester. The food was delicious! We had the Margarita pizza w a side of Brussels sprouts. We couldn't believe how quickly the food was served. The bartender Ari was so friendly and accommodating. We chatted with him all night. We met the owner Tim as well and he was friendly & welcoming. This is a great place & we will definitely be back!

NOW I KNOW WHY I HAVEN'T BEEN BACK TO THE FIRST COALS IN THE BRONX SINCE MY ONLY VISIT ABOUT TEN YEARS AGO. No need to review anything but the main course here THE PIZZA: Ridiculously to thin. No flavor coming from the crust. Most of the flavor was the sauce. This pizza is grilled. Maybe that's why the pizza was Luke warm. ( no they weren't busy it was lunch ). The pepperoni was soft and uncooked possibly again because of a grilled Pizza OR Maybe they don't know what there doing, so in a few weeks,I will personally go to Rhode Island. Famous for there Grilled Pizza. I will Taste and compare. QUALIFIED PIZZA LOVERS ARE WELCOME TO MEET ME GOOD TASTE A MUST

Here in Connecticut all pizza gets compared to Pepe's. Well let me tell you, Coals is right u there in that league. Had it last Sunday for the first time and we will definitely make the trip from Norwalk again. Great vibe too!

Amazing, we ordered the Rustic , the Pure Bliss, and Margherita. The rustic was my favorite but the other 2 were just as outstanding . Small place. Waitress was sweet and accommodating I think by far best thin crust pizza in the area and I've ever had. It was so light and crispy and flavorful!

This place is awesome! They have Wachusett Blueberry Ale on tap which is what brought me in the door!! Coals has a wide selection of beers on tap with additional choices in bottles (& PBR in cans!). They also offer $1 off draft beers if you have a ticket to see a show @ the Capitol Theater (which is why I was in the area) that night. Who doesn't like saving money?! The Ceasar salad was EXCELLENT with perfect romaine hearts, incredible Parmesan-dusted flatbread, and surprisingly good despite the anchovies that was mixed in (not sure I've ever had anchovies in my salad though I know that makes it a TRUE Ceasar salad). Now the pizza. Was. Amazing!!! If you're a thin crust fan, you will love it! If I'm ever in this area again, I would def grab a bite and beer here again.

Coals is back! They used to be in the Bronx but they popped up in Westchester. The concept is cool. Everything is cooked on a grill, including the pizza! I had the margherita and the hummus pizzas with an arugula pear salad. The dough could have a more developed flavor but the grilling more than makes up for it. Also...nutella pizza. Nuff said.

Coal's is a really fabulous restaurant with excellent food and friendly service to match. While they specialize in thin crust pizza, which live up to the rave reviews, they also serve burgers and a range of other appetizers and entrees. My wife and I particularly enjoy the Brussels sprouts which are phenomenal. Although the wine selection is somewhat limited, the selection of craft beers more than compensates for that. While it is well worth the wait, Coal's tends to be very busy on Friday and Saturday evenings between 6:00 and 9:00 pm, so plan accordingly

What an unexpected pleasure it was to go here. The pizza is very thin crust and really good, we also had the salads which were also great along with the fried Brussels sprouts. The beers are a little off the wall micro brewery style but with a little help, found ones we liked. Staff were very friendly and attentive.

Super thin crust pizza with fresh toppings...you really can't ask for more! I came here on a first date (I'll spare you the details of that train wreck) on a Saturday around 9PM and we did not have to wait for a table but the place was packed. I had the Rustic pizza and my date had the Marlon pizza. I absolutely loved the Rustic pizza. The Marlon pizza had a little kick to it but it was still delicious. They have a nice selection of beers on tap and I was quite happy with the Captain Lawrence Pumpkin beer.

Roughly once a month, I get together for dinner with two friends, and each month, one of us is responsible for picking the restaurant. Of course, this means the pressure is on: Pick something good, or you'll never hear the end of it. I'm so glad I recently chose Coals. It was the perfect spot for us to unwind after we'd all had a tough day. For a pizza joint, Coals has an impressive beer menu, and they'll even do flights, so you can try several of the interesting brews. Fortunately, unlike a lot of other places in Westchester, Coals doesn't put an insane markup on the beer. The three of us in my party were so busy catching up on each other's news, we hadn't had a chance to look at the menu. However, when asked by our waitress whether we wanted a starter, I took a quick glance at the menu, and the first thing I saw was grilled wings. Perfect. Easily shareable. So, I took it upon myself to order the wings, even though I am not a wings person ... and the way Coals prepares the wings, they're a nearly ecstatic experience. Because they're grilled, you don't taste oil and breading, nor are they spicy to the point where all you taste is "hot." Instead, the wings are succulent, meaty, and flavorful. And still, my two friends, who I'd consider to be wings connoisseurs, loved them. Long story short: Get the wings. Each of us then ordered a pizza. As you probably know from other reviews or reading anything about Coals, the crust is incredibly thin, yet it's fresh, and I even saw the owner rolling out the dough himself in the back. It's clear that great care goes into every pie. The crust of the pizza is flavorful, and well done yet not burnt. Two of us had the Rustic pizza, topped with fontinella, fresh mozzarella, roasted mushrooms, truffle oil, grana padano and garlic. You could taste the individual flavors of all the toppings and the cheeses. The mushrooms had also been cooked to perfection. One of my friends ordered the Dean Martin, and it was refreshing to see a pizza establishment serve a pizza that's topped with pepperoni, yet not with a slick of oil. For dessert, we shared the Nutella pizza. If you can bear to consume anything more after your entrees, indulge in this. Our eyes were pretty much rolling to the back of our heads from it. Coals is not fancy by any means, but it doesn't set out to be. It is, however, a friendly establishment with great music and great service. Coals clearly puts its focus on the food, and it shows. I will most certainly be back!

In full discloser I must admit that I was a regular at coals in the bronx...it was my favorite place to dine alone either during lunch or after work....I love the waitress Christina and decided to follow her to Portchester once the bronx location closed down....anywhooo the wings were great as we're the Brussels sprouts...the service is great too...had a blast just can't drink as much as I like since I have to make the trek back down to the Bronx....

Best pizza in Westchester! Grilled, with a thin crust, authentic quality ingredients. I didn't know my favorite pizza was grilled...soft and crispy is possible at the same time.

Went here last night with my Husband and another couple. Small spot, great friendly service and good pizza! We ordered for an appetizer the house made mozzarella with roasted peppers and arugula and I liked that the mozzarella wasn't salted. The waitress said they make the roasted peppers in house and honestly they tasted the same as when my mom makes them so I was happy about that! for Pizza's we started with the Marlon (fresh mozz, tomato, pecorino, arugula, roasted peppers and spicy oil) - awesome, really tasty! I love that their tomato sauce is sweet. Then the Dean Martin - awesome, if you like pepperoni then get this. it wasn't obnoxiously oily like i find pepperoni pie's to be. finally the Smokey Joe - I'm not personally a huge fan of that smokey taste but this was good because it wasn't overbearing. I hate when it feels like you're just eating black smoke. This was good. all the pizzas had an extremely thin crust and held up pretty well in terms of not falling apart. You have to eat it pretty quickly though in order to enjoy the crispy crust. Finally we ordered the nutella pizza. Same thin crust but it was folded over like a crepe. If you love nutella go crazy! They didn't overload it with nutella which is nice. Its nice to not always be a fat disaster when eating desert. I really shouldn't talk though because they give you 5 slices of it and of course I had two slices while everyone else only had one!

GREAT thin-crust grilled pizza (NY pizza snob) GREAT choice of beer selections(NY beer snob) GREAT location, if you're going to see a concert at The Capitol (went on Sunday eve) + BAD service - Personality-free, invisible "service" = 3 stars

Food was ok nothing to rave about. All pizza had same base...similar cheeses and barely any proteins on menu (think I saw wings, one burger, chicken in a caesar salad and pepperoni on one pizza - so limited). But decent atmosphere and good selection of beers so worth a try but not a repeat.

Grilled thin crust pizza. Came here last night for dinner and loved it. The pizza selections all sounded good. The personal hand formed pizza is thin crust and huge. The fresh made sauce and fresh grilled vegetables were amazing. I ended up getting the must have which is a white pizza. Yum. But I had a taste of smoky joe and that was yum too. The pure bliss was that as well. The only drawback is that they can only make 1 pizza at a time so if you are with a larger group, one person may be close to finished while the other is being served. But with the awesome beer selection and the option to share makes the wait bearable!

I have been a fan of Coals from the Bronx location. The pizza is the most unique you will ever have. Not to mention it is outstanding. Super thin crust & grilled. Don't ask, it just works. As a point of reference, my favorite pizza places are: Patsy's in Harlem Numero 28 East Village Motoreno East Village Frankie & Fanuchi in Mamaroneck or Hartsdale Nice place inside. But need to work on the noise level. It's a winner!

Came in on a Sat night at 9pm, was seated right away. The atmosphere was really nice and there was good music playing in the background (Phoenix, smashing pumpkins). The bartender seemed really friendly. For my meal, I stated out with the arugula salad, this salad was HUGE, I could have shared it with 3 people...but I didn't! Tons of grilled onions and walnuts, this could have been my meal. I got the margherita pizza for my entree, good amount of cheese and basil on my pizza too which I like, sauce was sweet. Again, I could have shared this but being my first time here I didn't know. I was full but I could not resist the nutella pizza because I love nutella....did not disappoint. Next time I will be trying their version of a fluffernutter which has nutella and mascarpone cheese. What could be bad about this! I will definitely be eating here again, service was great, felt very relaxed and not rushed at all. Forgot to take pictures of my food but took some pictures when I got there of the food specials and the beer list (great selection of REALLY GOOD BEERS!) I had a glass of the house sauvignon blanc with my pizza and it was good. Thought I got a lot of food for my money which is always nice.

Y'all know I love me some Coals. I decided to head back to the city of my birth. Pizza is just as tasty as the Bronx location. They also have some additional items, like the brussel sprouts dish. OMG this is the best preparation of brussel sprouts I have ever tasted. I don't know what Billy puts in this dish but it was AMAZING. I found it to be a bit drafty but that is really the only negative. I would come back just for the sprouts. Great selection of beer and wine. Love COALS for life.

The Duke of the Bronx locale ventured North last weekend to see what the hype in Portchester is about. Let me tell you, its all about the Brussels Sprouts deep fried then dressed in walnuts raisins and a tart mustard vinaigrette. Shockingly and absurdly delectable. HYFR. Like !!!! Sadly, the sprouts are only available up North and now I may be waiting until the weekends for my Coals fix.

Best pizza, on our list of top 5 now in area! The pizza is thin and crispy to last bite. We ordered the rustic and the heaven scent. Both we great. We also ordered the Brussel sprouts, these are a must! This place gets packed so go early, no reso's! We will be going back every week!

Never had grilled pizza before and it's great. Super thin and crispy. It's a pretty simple menu. They have grilled pizzas and burgers. They also offer a few appetizers. I recommend the grilled buffalo wings. The burgers are also VERY good. If you're a beer snob you'll also like this place. They have a great beer selection.

My daughter and I ate here tonight- we stumbled across this place on our way to another restaurant. We walked in and were immediately seated. It is a small room with a bar in the front and filled with little tables. The pictures on the walls look like thrift store finds or items from granny's attic...the overall affect is unassuming...and unpretentious - which is part of the restaurant's charm. A very pleasant (and my daughter says cute) waiter brought us menus and offered us drinks and we explained that it was our first visit and he immediately made two suggestions:fried brussel sprouts and rustic pizza. My daughter was skeptical-she hates brussel sprouts. They were amazing - a sizeable plate was delivered to our table filled with carmelized brussel sprouts and garlic and glazed with a sweet vinegary reduction (just a guess) sprinkled with walnuts -so good! The rustic pizza has 3 cheeses, roasted mushrooms, garlic and truffle oil. Truffle oil is an often abused ingredient in today's foodie world - many kitchen use it and ruin dishes-that is NOT the case here. The rustic pizza is a mini revelation - the paper thin (they grill their pizza) is light and crisp and the ingredients are evenly distributed so that you get the full flavor in every bite. In this case the cheeses and garlic strike a nice balance with the truffle oil and roasted mushrooms -again my daughter hates mushrooms - as she said "I'm eating things I hate because they taste good!" I told her that she liked everything because it was well prepared. We finished the meal with dessert: a mascarpone and nutella pizza.....words fail me. Run don't walk to this gem!

We tried Coals a couple of weeks ago, and have been back 3 or 4 times. I lost count. If you like grilled or thin crust pizza with creative toppings, this is hands down, the best pizza in the county. My wife and 3 kids can't stop raving about it. My older daughter, who eats almost nothing, fell in love with the Rustica pizza and caesar salad. But everything is good. The service is very pleasant and accommodating. My son has a nut allergy and they made sure to tell exactly what was in each menu item. Can't wait to go back.

This place is a great little spot! Perfect for casual quick lunches or dinner. There is a cute little bar area and just a few tables. The pizza is grilled and I've never had anything like it. The crust is just amazing. It gets a nice char on it and has a satisfying crunch. It's somehow soft and crispy at the same time. Would highly recommend this place, and it's a great fit on Main St.

My husband and I used to go to the Coals in the Bronx, we tried to get there about once a month, when a Coals opened in Port Chester we were thrilled. The pizza is amazing, the beer choices are exceptional, we don't have any complaints, we love, love, LOVE this place. The wait staff is young and all have been very sweet and helpful. Truly, we do not have a bad word to say, try this place we do not think you will be disappointed.

Just went here Sunday. It's a cozy little place with a small menu. In the front entrance there's a bar area where you can sit to dine and watch the game. There are also a good number of tables. There is a blackboard in the entrance with all of the beers available. Most if not all of them are from the US, especially NY. I love drinking craft beer so this brought a smile to my face immediately. Depending on the beer, you may also have them served with garnishes. For instance the blueberry beer came with a few blueberries on the top. I honestly appreciate this attention to detail. I got a pumpkin ale and the rim was covered in pumpkin spice & sugar. For the appetizer we got the mozzarella, arugula, & roasted peppers dish. I've never been a fan of roasted peppers, but these were excellent. The mozzarella and roasted peppers are homemade. The dish was clerkly served so that the three items resemble the flag of Italy. The pizzas are thin crust and cripsy . Exactly how I like my pizza. I don't remember exactly which types we got. I think we got the rustica and marlon. I preferred the marlon since it came with those delicious roasted peppers. The sauce they use for the pizza is great. The rustica doesn't come with sauce and has just a little bit too much garlic. For dessert we split a chocolate cake. It was decent at best. Nothing I would order again, but not intolerable.

Went here tonight for dinner with 2 friends. Didn't know what to expect when I walked in at 6 pm and the place was empty, but by 7:30 there was not a free table to be seen! Every staff member that I encountered was friendly and helpful, and the food was AWESOME! We started with an order of wings as an appetizer, which were grilled and delicious. Then I had the "Rustic" pizza. Aaaaamazing! The crust was super thin, the toppings were flavorful. Finished the dinner by splitting the Nutella pizza.. Once again, so so good! And the craft beer selection was pretty impressive as well. This place knows what they're doing and how to make customers want to return (I know I will!). Also met the owner who was a very nice guy. I'd recommend this place to anyone.. I'll for sure be back!

Great thin crust pizza and really good salads. Lots of beer selections and the wine is a good value. We went on a Sunday night and it was so busy that they ran out of dough! Four plus stars while they work out the kinks on their way to five.

Went here for pizza which was good, but I wish that I had selected one with fewer toppings to that the dough remained crispy, which is how I like it. I saw another reviewer mention the brussel sprouts which were awesome! The decor is nothing special so i think this is a good place for a weeknight bite but not for a date night. I will go back.

WOW!!!! YOU MUST EXPERIENCE this pizza because you never ate a pizza quite like this. It's sort of like a nan bread with an amazing coal flavor. Toppings are so fresh and mouth watering. Husband ordered the the marlon: Arugula salad, rosted peppers, mushrooms, slightly spicy truffel oil, perocino, I had the margherita, friends had the vegan: humus, arugual, red onion, spicy olive oil. We wanted to have the nutella, but were beyond over fed! Portions are for sharing. A long list of unusual beer. There's one for everyone's palate! Mange! Enjoy! HOWEVER...get there early. We were seated at the last table at 5:30 on Sat night. Many people were standing and waiting...delighting in beer at the small bar. Restaurant is very small but comfortable.

This is a small, extremely casual, modestly priced eaterie with an original and creative kitchen--the sort of youth-oriented place one expects to find in a college town. Although the menu is limited, it's not easy to narrow it down and make a choice. The pizzas are "grilled," with a very thin crust and unusual combinations as toppings; there's a burger, some vegetables and salads, a few desserts; and a wide assortment of beers. I have greatly enjoyed everything I've had there. If what I've described appeals to you, you'll like it.

We ate here before Bob Dylan at the newly restored Capitol Theatre. It is a very easy walk from both the train station and the theatre. Service was swift and friendly and the pizza was delicious. I've never had grilled pizza before and the thin crisp crust and hints of the grill in the flavor make for a perfect pre-concert or anytime meal. They also boast an excellent beer selection.

the pizza is delicious, homemade tasting and thin-crusted. This is no run of the mill NY pizza joint with prefab crust and greasy cheese. This is the real deal, all ingredients are genuine and the results show. If you are lucky, the owner is around to introduce you to all the wonderful craft beers on tap. Don't miss the Nutella desserts!
