Lunch, very fine bento box. Lots of good food in the $10 range. Salmon teriyaki was superb, Thai red curry was good, they substituted tofu for the meat on request. Miso soup was large and with good insides, the baked tofu side is A-1, edame was real good, and more, and down a winner. The decor is ok, some cute twists, more importantly, the place looks and feels immaculately clean. Sometimes in Dutchess the restaurants have been musty smell, this one is a pleasure to sit and relax. They have thin soba noodles in a couple of dishes. That's all we ate, so I can't comment more. Service fine.

After moving to this area from Staten Island nearly 2 years ago, we have been in a constant search for our "favorite" restaurant of each type of food. Sushi was a bit of a struggle at first, my wife is a vegetarian, and I am not. Having gone to a few locations that did not offer any veggie options, we were left disappointed. While Kodomo only has a few veggie rolls, its enough to satisfy my wife. Overall I have been very satisfied each time I go here, so much so that it has become our "go to" location for sushi and have brought friends and family here. They recently introduced a "all you can eat menu," and I admit that I have taken advantage of that for sure. The rolls are fresh, as is the sushimi. I've never had anything that did not taste right (and I've been to quite a few sushi locations that have left me questioning their quality). The decor is pleasant and comfortable. The staff is very friendly, however when they are busy they appear quite overwhelmed and service tends to slow down a bit (this wouldn't hold well in NYC, but upstate is more acceptable). If you're looking for a place in the area for good sushi, I definitely recommend Kodomo. They have other Chinese, Japanese, and Thai meals for those that just can't bring themselves to try sushi!

I was really excited about Kodomo - relatively new to the area from NYC so a good sushi place was at the top of my list of places to nail down, plus the sushi is solid and there are some unique special rolls that are particularly good. What really got me excited is they have an all you can eat sushi menu - however I've tried it a few times and every time they leave out parts of the rolls which has just gotten frustrating at this point. The first time every roll was missing tobiko and various toppings that really make the roll for me. The second time I mentioned it as nicely as possible, and we received rolls missing actual key elements within the roll. I still feel like for price and the all you can eat aspect that Kodomo may be the best game in town, but this experience has me looking to try a few more and make sure.

This new sushi place is fabulous. I loved the decor and the atmosphere. Everyone was VERY friendly and the sushi was fresh and delicious. I definitely have a new favorite in the area! It's easy to miss, but it's across the way from the home depot plaza, over by McDonald's and BadAss Coffee -- where Boston Market was years ago and most recently a Rib restaurant. DEFINITELY recommend trying it if you're a sushi lover like me!

I really love Kodomo. Friendly staff, great food and we appreciate the all you can eat sushi option- great deal!

Sushi is fresh and their all you can eat deal can not be beat. Service can get slow if its busy. Over all one of the best sushi joints in the area.

There are a lot of sushi/hibachi places in my neighborhood and they are all fine, but Kodomo stands out as being the best. My wife, who is particular about sushi, says its the best sushi she's ever had. I really like the hibachi. Don't be fooled by the neighborhood or the exterior of the building; it's very nicely decorated inside and has a full bar. Good service too.

Great food and great service! Try the satay chicken, miso soup, Moscow roll and teriyaki chicken. They gave us a great fried fish appetizer on the house as well.

My first visit & impression was one of intimidation. Tacked up on the entrance is a large sign entitled GUIDELINES. "No sharing, all you can eat, but do not waste food." Common sense for most but this is not Fort Knox. The place has a modern look and is clean. We chose to order the ALL YOU CAN EAT SUSHI for $21.95. You get little paper menu's and order by marking off your choices and handing over to the chef or waitress. Food is artfully prepared in a timely fashion. VERY fresh and flavorful. It gets only 3 stars because of the intimidation factor. I was sure the "sushi Police" would appear if I left a grain of rice on my plate or tasted a friends Edame!

This place is ridiculous. First of all, the place was dead on a Friday night. So, obviously this place is going to suck. And I was right. Our server never spoke to us, never asked us how the food was and I'm pretty sure my order was wrong. There's no price for the all you can eat sushi and I had to ask about the parameters. If you don't finish all your food, there's an added charge but our server didn't say what it was. You would think if there are so many rules, the server would volunteer those and not me have to fish for information. He didn't forget to scold us for hypothetically not finishing the sushi even though we didn't order that lol. I just don't understand how businesses think this is going to work. The worst part was probably all the servers eating in the middle of the dining room while we were there. As a former server, this is extremely bizarre to me. Then my friend got splashed in the face with a water re-fill and we decided it was time to go. Sushi was decent but not worth all this bullshit.

A nice place to sit but food is less than ok... still edible but not worth the time. Service is very cold... no smiles until payment time. :) We ordered hibachi (cooked in the kitchen) and some sushi. Fried rice from hibachi is ok... more like Thai style but not as good. Sashimi taste fresh but sushi rice under-seasoned... what a waste of good fish.

A diamond in the rough. This gem is nestled by a busy intersection, you can drive by and miss it but luckily there is always a way back. The interior is so sleek and beautiful. Lighting is intimate and gives a sense of richness. The food. Now I love sushi and I was a little skeptical about this place. But after 2 recommendations I gave in and it was the best decision ever. The sushi is delightful. Fresh and divine. The waiter gentlemen is kind and courteous and offers suggestions whenever we are not sure. We eat a lot of sushi so from what we tried and loved goes as follows in no particular order: foxy lady roll, christmas roll, super dragon roll, moscow roll, iron chef roll, dinosaur roll and regular dragon roll. All were delicious. The moscow roll is actually wrapped with cucumber and its surprisingly fresh and cool. The super Volcano roll has barely seared filet mignon on top and also has asparagus which is something I don't see in sushi often. They also offered us white fish tempura that was on the house which was quite delicious. Over all this place is going to be our usual haunt. Sushi and service are fantastic. We just finished our meal and the waiter came up with dessert on the house!!! We didn't order anything yet (we usually get fried icecream) and it was exquisite. We devoured it so sorry no pictures. It was a piece of cheesecake with chocolate sauce and pineapple and whipped cream!!

This is one of the hidden gems in wappingers! They have come up with an all you can eat offer and it really is worth the price. The food quality and service is excellent. I do not write a lot of reviews but after eating the food here and knowing the quality and service, I had to write about it! Bottom line is that it impresses my taste buds. I will most certainly come here agin.

Not a great location, and we weren't show what to expect, but we were pleasantly surprised. Interior decor is fine.... Food was really good. Udon noodles with chicken was really tasty. Duck roll was good. The fish based sushi rolls weren't as good as Bonsai, but were OK. The filet mignon tatani was very tasty. Spring mango salad as starter was excellent. Overall, very happy and plan on coming back.

Just moved to the area and without question our new go to sushi bar. We sat at the counter and watched the skillful chef and an EPL Derby match. The staff were all friendly and social. A must try. It also has a full bar with tv. I said only beer and wine in error

This place was fantastic. It is beautifully decorated, very sleek and modern - but without feeling uninviting. Our server was very nice and appropriately attentive. We ordered two sushi entrees which came with miso soup and salad. The miso soup was delicious, not too salty and had a good amount of seaweed. We also ordered at he crab rangoon appetizer which was delicious. Everything came out very promptly and they even brought over a dish of white fish tempura on the house for us to sample. The entrees were fresh and beautifully plated and the prices were reasonable. I highly recommend this new restaurant!

Coming from San Diego my wife and I are extreme sushi junkies. I rather not share some the bills we've had at the end of the meals lol. The first time we dined here the rolls and service were 5 stars. We still can't figure out if everything was as good as it tasted, because we had been deprived of sushi for a few months. I'm going to just say it's was a breath of fresh air lol. Now, the second dining experience was this past Valentines day. The place was at its capacity, which is good to see, but they only had two guys in the back making sushi. The service was terrible That night. You almost had to trip the waiters to get their attention. Anyways, they had a special going for the night. All you can eat rolls for $21, not a bad deal, except It took forever to get the first rolls served and the second rolls took just as long. I almost feel as if they were trying to stall the customers out with slow service because it was all you can eat. That's just looking at it from a business perspective. Let's not get it twisted though. They did make up for the slow service with a $5 gift card at the end of the meal and the food was still bomb. This is my goto sushi spot.

The sushi is fantastic but the wait time is horrible. We went there on our hour lunch break which turned into nearly an hour just waiting for food. However, the sushi is soo good and they even gave us a comped roll & sake. I'd go there again as long as I have time to wait. It's also very clean inside. Edit: wait time has improved. Try their lunch specials!

I've been here with my significant other twice so far, and they've both been enjoyable meals. The decor is modern, with soft lighting and a Manhattan feel. The sushi bar is spacious, but there's plenty of good seating spaced a decent distance apart if you so prefer. The fish is fresh, but the sushi rice is slightly under seasoned. The service is good, but unnecessarily slow, especially when there's only two other tables. Which is the main reason for the fifth star removal. If they pick up the speed, this will be a solid spot.

Great, clean and tasty food! This is probably the best sushi place in the area or NY for that matter. I had "all you can eat" and the menu has very wide selections. Everything that I ordered were cooked with a great care and consistently good (not many places can achieve that). The tempuras were crispy and light without any oil presented on the plate! If this place is nearby me, I would go there every week. I had to lower the rating due to the slow service on my second visit. It was unreasonably slow (it took 1 1/2 hrs to get the rolls)

Kodomo is a new, clean, and attractively designed restaurant. The food is excellent and both my wife and I feel that the chef is a genuine artist. The dishes are presented with an aesthetic flare and surprising beauty. All of the appetizers, soups, main dishes, and desserts are fresh and wonderfully tasty. We are impressed by the variety of flavors and appreciate the obvious care taken with each dish. The service is excellent and the manager, Danny, is very friendly and welcoming. We plan to eat there at least once a week because the food is healthy and delicious. The prices are quite reasonable for the excellent quality.

This restaurant has the worst service we have now been waiting over two hours for food All you can eat means little if the food doesn't ever come !! I would not recommend this restaurant and will certainly never return

Mellow, simple ambiance with an often clever menu and attentive service. Though they have an "all you can eat" menu option, I always stick to the main menu as the offerings are more interesting. Some VERY interesting and tasty house rolls, artistically presented, like the "Whiter Geisha" (Spicy salmon, shrimp tempura, mango & avocado wrapped in sesame soybean) and the "Foxy Roll" (Salmon, yellowtail & avocado top with spicy tuna and crunch served with eel sauce) are stand-outs. Parking takes a couple seconds to figure out, as you have to go around back to find it, but good things come to those who wait...

I frequent this place more often than others, that being said I'm a very picky eater and value a good restaurant when I visit one. Kodomo has yet to disappointment me. Their service is always great, the restaurant has a great atmosphere and professionalism.

Forgot my order. Waited an hour to get my food after I finally reordered. I would definitely not recommend. Food is ok but service is so frustrating that it's not worth it.

This new place is somewhere you should try. I wont get into specifics but I shared an order of spicy tuna roll over fried scallions. I'm very particular about sushi and it ranked up there with my top 5. The menu has a nice mix of sushi, Thai, and some fusion dishes. Only reason it received 4 stars was from the length it took for our meal to come out. The waitstaff happily offered edamame on the house.

Kodomo is an excellent Asian fusion restaurant. The menu offers many interesting and different dishes. The food is very fresh, flavorful and artfully presented. The tom yum soup is spicey and really flavorful. The sushi was also fresh. The decor if very quiet and intimate. Our servers Kanina and Eveloi were extremely courteous, friendly and provided excellent service. They even went out of their way to make our visit memorable. After my wife and I finished our meal and paid the bill, they found out it was my birthday. They asked us to stay a few minutes more and then came out with a really nice , fried ice cream dessert and sang happy birthday. The prices are reasonable and menu varied. I highly recommend Kodomo and will definitely be returning soon. This is hands down one of the best Asian fusion restaurants in the area.

I hope this place makes it because it's really good quality sushi. The inside is really nice, it's recently renovated so it's modern, extremely clean and nicely decorated. I ate here with a friend and we shared the pad Thai, miso and clear soups, and a few rolls and everything was fresh and delicious. I will definitely go back it's nice having a great Japanese restaurant so close.

We dined at Kodomo today and it was excellent. The food was very good, especially the duck roll appetizer. We thought the value was very fair for what we had. Everything was fresh and clean. We will be coming back again soon!

Sushi was really good! Fresh! The Tom yum soup was good too, spicy. The presentation was beautiful, you can tell they take pride in their food. Only downfall is they didn't have gluten free soy sauce for me. Other than that the experience was good.

Food was exceptional and so were the drinks....not sure how some people can say their food could be bad, it was amazing. We had Shumai, Thai rangoons, spider rolls and the best of all was the Mango shrimp entree

I've eaten at most sushi places in the area, ranging from Poughkeepsie to Newburgh, and I'm generally left content, but every time I'm hoping for something more. Service at most isn't the best and the food always leaves something to be desired. I've been to Kodomo twice now and I've loved both experiences. Contrary to most sushi places I've been to, the food tastes clean and fresh. I find sitting at bars charming, so I always plop down right in front of where the chef makes the sushi. He's been nothing but friendly both times and had even sent out a complimentary appetizer for my guest and me. The menu is relatively extensive, offering a variety of rolls, which is something I look for when eating sushi. If you're in the area and looking for a quality sushi, look no further. There are only a few hidden gems in the Hudson Valley where the sushi is worth the money and this surely is one of them.

    (5)
  • Ron A.

Modern decor, extensive menu, including traditional Japanese, sushi, Thai and fusion entrees. Food is fresh and very nicely prepared and presented. More a vibe of a modern bistro than a typical Asian restaurant in the Hudson Valley.

Drive by this restaurant a few time on route 9 while it was still under construction. Stopped in for lunch. Decor is nice. Kind of an industrial chic. Most importantly, it is CLEAN. Kodomo probably opened not too long ago. We were offered to try their house sake for free as a grand opening special. Light and floral - not bad. We ordered a Kani salad and 4 specialty rolls. We were also given some tempura fish on the house. The fish (both the sushi and cooked) was fresh. The tempura fish was fried nicely - crispy not greasy. Can't really comment on service since there was only another table occupied while there but our server was very nice. Prices are reasonable for what it is. Hope they do well so we can visit again and sample their other menu items!
