The waitresses were very friendly and courteous to everyone that came in the door. The food was excellent as well. So much to choose from! We had the sloppy joe and chicken and biscuit special for $10 each with 2 sides. Great place to eat!

Excellent food. My wife and I both had burgers. I had the John Boy and she had the Mushroom and Swiss and they were both really good. The fries were perfect. Soft on the inside and golden and crunchy outside. I wish this was by my office on the other side of the state!

Recently came back to this place after a 5 year hiatus from eating here. I was a groomsman in a wedding and recommended the guys eat here the morning of the Saturday wedding because of its close proximity to the church. After everyone arrived and ordered ( and let the server know we had a wedding to get to), we didn't start receiving food until almost 45 minutes later! On an already big day filled with nerves, waiting so long for breakfast is the last thing that the groom needed to think about. What baffled me was that other groups of people who arrived after us (that appeared to be regulars) received their food before us. To top it all off, the pancakes I ordered weren't even that great - crumbly and thick in consistency. We ended up having to scarf our breakfast down in order to be on time, rather than have the leisurely morning we hoped for before the day's events got rolling. Our server was very apologetic and the owner came over also to apologize. While that helped some, I was very disappointed in the extraordinary wait from such a historic restaurant.

I remember visiting George France's restaurant in the 1980's with my Dad. He loved the place. At that time coffee was only .10 a cup, probably the price it was when George France opened up the little diner in 1949. Regardless, it was a deal my father could not pass up, even it if meant driving 13 miles to catch it. I remember enjoying the most wonderful root beer floats, which most likely kick started my love affair with all things root beer. It had been decades since I had been back, and the opportunity presented itself last week. Husband, friend, and I all stepped inside the time warp and had a most interesting dinner. I would describe the food as adequate. My husband ordered the Sal's Birdland chicken wings and a portion of his wings was still frozen. I had the spaghetti and meatballs, which was accompanied by garlic bread. All was fair: sauce was a bit too sweet for me and meatballs lacked seasoning, the garlic bread was my favorite part of the meal: toasty and buttery would have eaten more if offered. We tried the bumble berry pie and it was fine. Again, nothing exceptional, but neither was it disastrous. The attraction is the throw-back charm of diners of old. From the decor to the solicitous friendliness of the staff, it was a place where one could feel comfortable - a return to home. Apparently it's a favorite among locals, as the waitresses knew most everyone by name. Would I go back? Sure, if I was in the area. I think it would be a great place to take a big city dweller. Have a taste of Mayberry!

My daughter would rate this six stars. We just recently discovered George's because of the Sal's Birdland sign in the window. My husband and daughter LOVE Sal's! The quality of the wings and wedges is consistent with other Sal's locations, even the Cabaret in Oswego, NY. I had the party melt with fries. Good quality marble bread. The fries were hot and crispy. 50's style diner with nice ambience and good service.

I was hoping to find an alternative to the Lima diner since I will never go back there switching to George France, ..well, the food was OK, but pretty dam expensive had a " special" omelette .. $8.99 ..potatoes ..$2.. soooo over 10 bux, and no coffee yet with tip breakfast was near $15, that's just not a realistic figure, and I should mention I wasn't very full when done I'll drive a few miles further to Leisures in Lakeville sorry, George

Took my grama here a little while back for a fish fry. We were just out and about and saw it and decided to stop in as it was dinner time. The place has a super unusual set up but I really like it. There are 3 rows, one in the middle and one on either side. There are two use shaped diner bars and booths on the outside rows. That way the servers can get to all the booths and bar diners but just walking down either "server row", it's kind of set up like a W. The fish fry was ok but nothing out of this world. They did loose major points on the clam chowder. It was so bad! Pasty, goopy, no potatoes, had to be STRAIGHT out of the can and it was probably a pretty crappy can too. They should get a lesson from Chowder Up! They had an ice cream window too which was fine, nothing special. All in all, not a place i'd regularly visit and definitely not a destination on it's own. I'd say stick to the ice cream and if your starving, pick something from the friar.

I live in Lima and visit George's on a regular basis for breakfast and the occasional dinner. The service and atmosphere is always top notch, very laid back and pleasant. We bring our 2 year old son with us regularly and he has a blast playing with the toys they have around the seating area. While the menu is good I nearly always order from the specials, as they are constantly changing and offering new home cooked dishes. Some highlights are the pot roast and turkey dinners. For breakfast I usually go for the spanish omelet or gutbuster garbage style plate, both excellent. The only downside I can think of is the bathroom is outside but thats really pretty trivial. George's is the real article, a locally owned and operated diner serving excellent diner style cuisine, love it!

I'm not so much a fan of the food as I am of the Custard Stand style of soft ice cream they serve here. Between the sundaes and the soft serve cones with a mug of root beer, I'm a fan! Service is generally good for as crowded as the place gets. Prices are very reasonable.

I went to the George France on a late afternoon in 10/05. It's a diner in the small town of Lima and I had a good-sized bowl of New England clam chowder for $3.50. The only problem is that it lent new meaning to the term "piping hot", but it was tasty and the service was pleasant.
