I've been going to Eastern Nights Since I was about 18. The service wasn't the best but sufficient. I recently went with a few friends and i was shocked to see that they had the entire place remodeled. I think they must have changed owners because they were very rude. when we went we asked for a table for 5, there was 3 of us there and 2 other friends where meeting us. They were very rude because we had a 5 person table and not a 3 person table. The owner must have instructed his employees to ignore us because after we ordered our first round they wouldn't look at us or bring us anything. To make things worst they tried to charge us $40 for 3 waters and $30 for a hookah that was advertised at $8. i wouldn't recommend anyone wasting their time going here. BEWARE!!!!

I have had a fair share of history with this establishment. For starters they don't make their own food. One of the owners owns a deli on the next block so if you order your food keep an eye out for a delivery boy dragging your food by in styrofoam packages, which they then put on a plate to make it look like it's NOT awful cheap deli delivery food. PLUS do not be surprised if you have to wait 45 minutes for your "food", or end up overpaying horribly. Also, their furniture is awful! They drape it in fabric to masks it's age but don't be fooled that fabric hasn't been washed in months. Not too comfortable either. The nice couches are forever occupied by the regular men who sit there from morning to night. Oddly enough, their hookah isn't bad at all, it is probably the only reason I came back. But in retrospect, my friend used to work here and trust me fellow Yelpers; DO NOT GO HERE. I myself have recently stopped coming here because of the rudeness of some of their frequent customers and one of the owners. This is not the hookah lounge for me.

I've been going to hookah spots on Steinway for many years now. Many of them are mediocre at best but this place takes the spot at the very bottom of the list. After being greeted and seated we ordered 2 hookahs, immediately I noticed the tobacco was horrible, it made everyone at our table severely cough along with a burning sensation in our throats. We notified them twice they did nothing. The owner's son approached me when I refused to pay and told me to meet him in the back alley way. Many better hookah lounges on Steinway why settle for garbage and get threaten. I would give Eastern Nights zero stars if I could, stay away!

Two friends and I were looking for a place to eat on Steinway and chose this place randomly. The result was the most hilarious dining experience I've ever had. We ordered three lamb shawarma sandwiches. After taking our order the waiter (only employee present) left the building. We started wondering to each other where he had gone when he returned with a plastic bag containing three styrofoam boxes. Shortly thereafter we were served our sandwiches. The guy bought shawarma sandwiches from a food cart and served them to us in his restaurant. My friend jokingly wondered whether we'd have to pay a delivery charge. Also, when two of us said we were "fine with water" to drink he brought us bottles of water that ended up costing $2 each. When the bill came a 15% gratuity had been added for our party of three. Bush league. This place is so ridiculous all I can do is laugh about it.

I have vivid flashbacks of my final years in school trekking up Steinway street for a little after school hookah and what I've always noticed about this place is the unbridled hospitality. I've seem to have been getting lucky in terms of Middle Eastern establishments in Astoria, the older staff at this like many of it's neighbors make you feel more than at home. Offering specials, personal favorites and warm hospitality all at normal (Queens) prices. I recently came back with some college friends to introduce them to Astoria and the Little Egypt row of hookah spots and restaurants. For the most part, the place I remember going to in high school was essentially the same. Unfortunately (albeit understandably) a few things have changed in that short time. In order to keep up with the times, a lot of the old charm that the place used to have has been replaced with attractions for its new, younger clientele. No longer do Egyptian and Lebanese music videos play on the tv screen or through the speakers, now it's mostly that generic techno laced tracks that everyone listens to nowadays. Epileptic shock from the new strobe light system included. I can live with those things as long as the hookah stays on it's game, the prices don't skyrocket, and the service stays hospitable. I'm holding out, but New York is changing so I'll only hold my breath a little longer.

Worst POS place EVER. Service was terrible (staff was extremely rude, drinks tasted like a 85 year old trannys breast milk, and hookah was tasted like a charcoal BBQ grill. Would NEVER go there again in my life!!

If your under age and looking for a place to smoke, this is definitely it. If not, EXPECT TO BE BABYSITTING... or even have a flashback back to high school. Service sucks, Over packed(Saturday nights), small dance space, no food, dirty bathrooms, and horrible management! Age 20+, unless you're still stuck in your high school phase, don't even bother going here... all you'll get out of there is a smoothie and hookah. But on a good note, the hookah wasn't as bad as the experience.

Worst hookah on Steinway. Horrible customer service. Disgusting food. Dirty seating. Literally horrible in every aspect.

  • Doug B.

I was very disappointed in this place. It used to be nice. Now it caters more to what seems like a bar-drinking, hip-hop crowd. Extremely loud western dance music; so loud you can't even hear yourself talk. The shish is way over priced and service is horrible! I will probably not go here again.

Visiting Eastern Nights was actually my first and only experience with hookah so far, so I really have nothing to compare it to. But, I enjoyed my evening there. We were promptly greeted and served. Both the cantaloupe and strawberry flavors were tasty. Nobody ever rushed us. or pressured us to continue ordering. Generally speaking, it was an extremely relaxing and laid back evening. I suppose that other people who were there that night felt the same way. I noticed a few people had fallen asleep on their couches and were napping when we arrived. I'm not sure if this is the norm at other hookah joints, but it did seem a little odd to me. The atmosphere is lacking, and there is definitely something to be desired in that aspect. It was very dark, which I assume all hookah places are. But the couches were shabby and in need of replacement. Also, it wasn't really cheap. For two types of shisha, and four waters our bill came out to $38. (They included 15% gratuity in the bill) However, I don't have any serious complaints. The service was surprisingly quick and attentive without being pushy and the shisha was a great new experience. While I do expect to enjoy the hookah again, I probably wouldn't return here since I'm sure the area offers places with equally good shisha in a more comfortable atmosphere.

Pretty cool place, but not for the over 21 crowd, or even 18+ crowd. I went on a Friday night and it had to be Teen night because everyone in there was 14-18; I even saw an 11 year old waiting tables. There was an older lady, maybe someone's mom watching the place and standing by the bathroom making sure the kiddies didn't go in for a makeout session. No drinking allowed which is fine because they had pretty good smoothies. The fruit hookah was really good, just lasted for like 10 minutes. I mean it's not worth going to again, but I'll definitely send any high school kid in that direction.

Not great, not bad. Just OK. After scouring Steinway for the perfect hookah bar that served food, alcohol, and had a nice, welcoming atmosphere, we ended up at Eastern Nights--mainly because it was came closest to what we were looking for (which was not all that close!). To be fair, I am not a huge fan of restaurants with loud, clubby music and disco lights distorting all the pictures on the walls to begin with, but I walked in accepting atmosphere for what it was. First and foremost, the hookah: We ordered the double apple, which went down really smoothly, but did not taste like apple in the slightest. Actually, it tasted more like anise, a flavor I really don't like. So that was kind of a foul. Next, we got the falafel and foul (pronounced "fool," it's kinda like a Middle Eastern version of refried beans) and both were delicious! And affordable too! The service was painfully slow, however, so don't expect McDonald's style speed if you're hungry! The service was not bad either. I was actually surprised to see what other reviewers were saying about the service, because I really didn't experience anything negative. The bill: At the end of the night, we owed 37 smackers, which wasn't too bad, except that I was peeved about the water charge: So when you order water, they immediately give you bottled water and proceed to charge you $2 per bottle later. That's kinda BS because they should be asking you if you want bottled or tap water. Grr. The other annoying thing is that they are cash only, so make sure to stop by the atm before you step foot in here. Lastly, take note that they do not serve alcohol here. If you're looking for a hookah bar that serves booze, keep walkin'!

Came here after having dinner at a nearby place. Plenty of people on a Saturday night, staff was very attentive and made sure our coals were replaced timely. Drinks and hookahs were all cheap. Two complaints: the bathroom had no tp nor any paper towels and they had no honey-flavored shishas. Other than that, we will come back. P.S. It's a bonus if you speak Arabic- the staff will be extra helpful.

Seats were not that good. But the hooka was about a 6 out of 10 or maybe 7.

If this place is really closed then I'm so happy because it SUCKS! The WORST hookah spot I've ever been to. I should have known since there was NO ONE inside. My friend and I were the ones in there. We ordered a hookah and they have an option where you can have more tobacco so it lasts longer but it's $2 extra. I forgot the proper term, but it was written in the menu and I asked about it. The waitress automatically assumed because I asked about I wanted extra tobacco. When it came time for the bill, she took forever to bring it out and I discovered that she had charged me extra when I didn't even order the extra stuff! When I asked her about it, she said I had to pay because that is what was served. She tried to argue that it was my fault that I asked about it and that since we were given extra tobacco, we had to pay. Very poor customer service. I will never return and would suggest that you don't go either.

With exceptional pricing on their menu items this is a great place to hang out and relax with friends. In addition to the food on the menu many come here at night for the hookah. Although the menu only lists their popular flavors, asking what their "over 40 flavors" consisted of the waiter was quick to spill off a plethora of flavors and recommending his favorites. Cheap hookah, cheap and tasty food and decks of cards & backgammon boards means it's a great casual atmosphere for enjoying old and new company. If you're into hookah, the attention to replenishing is impeccable by the staff even when the place is packed. They try to throw in an Egyptian theme to the decor which works out well with in a place of this size keeping each little table comfortable and cozy.

This place re-opened at some point, so the "closed" part of this restaurant is not accurate. The hookah is hookah. It's a nice atmosphere where you can go, chill, talk, and inhale far too much tobacco. It's a nice experience, it's not too expensive and it's right by my house. If smoking didn't kill, I'd be here once a week. Unfortunately, it does, so this place is a DEATH TRAP!

The price is a great place to relax on a Friday night. But what I hated was how hard it was to get the attention of the waitresses! The food was VERY expensive, especially the drinks...$3 for a can of soda. And it really made me mad because I ordered a plate of fries the lady said was $4..it was a large plate but when the receipt came, they overcharged us for things we didn't even order and the plate of fries $9! After convincing them about everything, it was taken care of good. The guy who kept coming to change the charcoal was very helpful and checked on us ever 30 min. Too bad we decided to be assholes and teased him the whole time.

So, after reading the mostly good reviews on here, I decided to go. Big mistake. I failed to realize that most of these reviews are outdated. 1. The $7 hookah is now $10 2. They only have fruit flavors (lemon, grape, common things like that---with the exception of cappuccino). 3. There is a minimum of one drink per person. 4. And most of all, the service is HORRIBLE. Waiters/waitresses ignored us the entire night. We had to wait 15 minutes before someone even responded to our request to replace the coals. A waiter even walked right past us talking on his cell phone -_- There was one pro, however: smooth hookah. But even that wasn't worth it.

First off they are cash only and don't have a liquor license. so not good right off the bat. The waitress was THE WORST I have ever had anywhere. She did not understand a word we said and when she did not understand instead of trying to find out she just stared at us, she forgot half the stuff we ordered and seemed to only remember about us once an hour. Apart from not having a liqueur license they would not let me get my own and bring it. The DJ seemed like we saw a how to DJ video on youtube and then got a job JDing. We had to go up and tell them that the colas needed to be changed. They had no control over the people in the place, they really need a bouncer or something. I gave it more then one star because the green tea was good.

a four star for a hookah lounge/restaurant in astoria (no offense, maybe i didn't get a chance to go to any fancier spots in astoria) lighting here is dim service is good. atmosphere is okay music is a bit too loud to communicate food here was better than expected. loved french fries. philly sandwich was good i don't know what it was called but once the waiter recommended us this with all the assortments of appetizer and i was soo good :) but when you are doing hookah, food and hookah is the worst combo. eat first then get some drinks with hookah later ;)

Blasting music, blue mist and arab people. Everything you need. Definitely a lot of fun, but can never replace Egyptian. Best to visit on a Saturday night.

I wanted to try something new, my husband and I live fairly close to Steinway Street. We usually go to Khan Lounge for Hookah but I thought we'd try something new. So we walked towards the end of Steinway's long history of lounges and fell upon the glowing lights of Eastern Nights. I was excited to try something new. Their "regular flavors" hookah is $12.00, and their Starbuzz Tobacco hookah is $14.00. They only have two Starbuzz flavors. We ordered the grape and blue mist hookah which was pretty good. I wouldn't say it's the best I've had but it was decent. I also ordered this Arabic milk coffee, which was supposed to be extremely tasty as explained by the waiter. He was very much enthusiastic about the drink so I decided I'd order. It came out, it was literally, hot, frothy milk with some nuts in it-no sugar added, to top it off, they add corn-starch to the drink to make it have a thick consistency. We also ordered beef "shawarma". This is where it got really bad, to the point I probably will never go back again. We requested that our beef shawarma have fries and hot sauce on the inside of the shawarma. The waiter, said, "yea sure, no problem." We waited about........35-40 minutes for our Shawarma until finally my husband said to cancel the order. The guy came to our table and said the guy is almost done making it, it's ready, it will be done in 1 minute." He ran outside and came back with a white, Styrofoam box. I knew it, I knew that was the order and that he had ordered from outside because he obviously doesn't have the items he has listed on his menu. He should have just told us. Anyway, seconds after he came back with the box our "shawarma" was served. We stared down at our "shawarma" anticipating that it would be scrumptious and everything we'd hoped and expected since we'd waited for so long. It wasn't even a shawarma! It was minced beef inside of a French bread roll. No sauce, no fries inside, and no hot sauce. Nothing. Very disappointing. We kindly told him as he bought our $35 dollar bill that what was in front of us was not a shawarma. He argued with us and attempted to cover-up this shawarma type thing he claimed. I've had several shawarma. I know what a beef shawarma looks like, the beef is not minced, and it's definitely not in a French bread roll. He still made us pay for the sandwich which we did not order, and the thick cornstarch milk I didn't drink. Also, if you're going to have a TV please play something decent. I kept seeing the same re-run of an advertisement about a man who purchased a house full of paintings! Wouldn't recommend this place unless they offer a Groupon ever. If he had straight up told us that he didn't have that menu item available, and had it not taken so long to obtain the pseudo-shawarma, maybe this review would have been better. Also, Eastern Nights, if you are in fact going to go and seek outside sources for your Shawarma, I'd suggest you get them from El-Rawsheh Restaurant. They have EXCELLENT, authentic Shawarma's.

The place was OK I wen there Saturday with a group of Friends. The music was good and the hookah wasn't that bad. You can change your charcoals as many times as you want on till you leave.

  • Jeremiasz T.

Hookah was pretty bad, service was nonexistent, $5 minimum per person. Music was louder than a nightclub with a crappy sound system. Also the mix was atrocious, jumping without any consistency from middle eastern to top 40 to spanish. Not a great experience.

This is a great spot. What better way to pass a Thursday night then sitting outside on Steinway Street with a great hookah attentive service and first class food. Kibbe (not on the menu) was superb; Their falafel was excellent and a great variety of middle eastern foods. Finishing off the meal with a very strong but smooth turkish coffee and great cream caramel and rice pudding while puffing on the hookah. Tough to beat that.

ive heard all sorts of shining reviews for eastern nights - here on help, on time out new york, etc. its not that bad. but thats it. nothing amazing. yeah the shishas good and the food is reasonably priced. but the restaurant itself just looks terribly run down. the chairs are all shabby. maybe the problem is they look really comfy and inviting, but when you sit on them, they're all torn and hard. the highlight of my time here was the turkish coffee. it was excellent! sweet, rich, and thick and they brought it to the table in the little teapot and poured it right in front of me. ive had their apple, strawberry, and grape shisha. they're all very good.

Walked in to visit some friends from out of town who chose this place to chill at after their dinner. Right off the bat the rude waitress said we all had to leave unless I ordered something, although the group of 6 already had dessert and soft drinks. I went ahead and ordered a dessert they were advertising on the window called "Um Ali" - Ive had this dessert before so I know how it normally tastes. When I got their version, it was cold instead of warm and the kicker - it tasted like a soggy bowl of corn flakes with nuts in it. What really got me annoyed was the price afterwards - $9 for a lil bowl of cereal with nuts... Nine dollars!!! I didnt complain about the price but when the owner asked me how I liked it, I told him it tasted like corn flakes and ive had better - especially cause it was cold. The owner apologized and said it was missing a warm milk that was supposed to be on top and that his version is the Syrian version instead of the Egyptian version im used to . He then said next time I come order it, he will "work it out".. dont know what that means but there wont be a next time. Too expensive, rude service, and food not so great (based on what my guests said about their desserts)... Way too many options on that block now. I would go elsewhere.

I love this place. I've been around hookah bars for about 12 years and I have never seen anything that can compare to eastern nights!! From the hookah to the staff everything just goes perfectly. The staff works extremely hard for us every single time we go and everything is brought out to us at a really quick time. The hookah has the truest taste to it. If you order and orange hookah your hookah will tastes like an orange. I usually get the fresh pineapple which is my favorite ever since I tried it. I usually go on Thursday's and Saturday's. On Thursday's it's a nice, calm, relaxing atmosphere. On Saturdays I go with my buddies and party. They always have something new going on its awesome. I love this place and will never go anywhere else!!! It really feels like they rey family even other customers that I got to know over time. The crowd is really down to earth and all are just really nice to one another. The funny thing is their slogan is " be a part of the eastern nights family" and that's really how they make people feel. I love eastern nights and I'm looking forward for all the new things thy will do:) This is the spot in Steinway!!!!

Other than Egyptian Cafe, which has been my HQ for hookah since '04, most of the other hookah spots on Steinway are a dime a dozen. That doesn't mean I should give Eastern a low rating. Ive been able to spend weeknights here (well, Thursday) until 3am which is great for insomniacs who enjoy hookah and late night company. I've only had hot beverages (strong cappuchino and green tea) here, but I've been told that their shakes and food are solid. The only thing that separates one hookah spot from another for me is the service. If you have crackheads behind a curtain in the back room doing lines rather than replacing my coal, then I'm not coming back (R.I.P. Sahara Rose). I love my girls here, they always treat me right and are attentive. $7 dollar hookahs and Poker until 3-4am. I'm saving A-rab Money while having a great ass time. FYI, they only list about 10 hookah flavors, but they have plenty more - just ask. You can mix shisha. My signature mix is Vanilla Mint.

  • Masumi T.

We came here after having lunch at Kebab Cafe for shisha. We sat on the couches in the back. It was pretty hot so we asked them to bring us a fan. The price of the shisha was not bad, the menu showed $6. We were forced to order drinks so we had cans of soda for $3 and a bottle of Poland Spring for $2. We tried the double apple shisha which was okay. It lasted for about an hour between 3 people. The waiter came to replace the coal without having to ask them. When we settled the bill, however, they charged us $7 for the shisha. We showed them the price on the menu and they told us that the menu was there for food rather than the shisha. We argued with them over the principle of charging us a different price from the menu. They refused to refund us the money and our waiter was rude about the whole situation. In the end, someone else nicely explained the situation to us. Needless to say, I won't be coming back here.
