i looooveee this place. i been been coming here for about 5 years and its always great..well except one time..we hated what we ordered..it was some seafood hot pot. I love their kalbi gui(which is little too expensive in my opinion), kimchi jigae, spicy pork bbq and dol sot bibimbap. the banchan are always good and service is always good as well. i used to order delivery from them i used to live close and its unfortunate that they don't delivery to my address..poop!!..oh well.

Great neighborhood restaurant. Quiet and family friendly. We've been coming here over the years. Highly recommend getting the Kalbi Gui. They cook it at your table Korean bbq style to perfection. But you have to order 2 bbq entrees in order to cook it at your table. The spicy pork bbq is actually spicy. Seafood pancakes and kimchi pork pancakes are pretty good. The soups are also highly recommended and they're all good.

Great BBQ spot. The quality is as good or better than anything you'd get in Manhattan or thereabouts, and the banchan appetizers have a lot of variety. The service is extremely friendly, and the prices are fair (as far as KBBQ goes). We live up the street from this 24 hour (!) location, and have been coming back every couple of weeks because it's just so good and convenient. Definitely check it out if you are in the area.

Recently had the pleasure of eating here with my bf on a frigid night having hot soup, he had a dumpling and beef combo and I had the miso soup. I love that they greet you with hot tea and samples of their delicious Korean cuisine! They even gave me more kale when I asked free of charge. The waitress was also understanding enough to explain what each sample was and the country it originated from. How cool is that? A history lesson on top of a full belly and excellent service!! Can't beat that and as an added bonus.......this place is 24hours!!!!!!!

My wife and I went there last Friday because we waited over an hour at Sik Gaek on 49th & Roosevelt for a table. This place wasn't crowded and we got a table the minute we walked in. The food was great and less expensive and we had a good waitress who took pictures of us at the table. I'll definitely go back there again. The chef came to our table and explained to us the best way to eat the different dishes in order to have the complete appreciation of Korean cuisine. Way to go:)

Great authentic Korean food. Lots of delicious side dishes. Good service, and nice food portions. Kbbq and the mool naeng myun is awesome here!

Ate hear about 3 times I believe. Didn't really like anything on the menu besides the kalbi beef, which in my opinion is over priced for a small amount. I'd say it's about 5/6 teaspoons for $35 + tax and tip.

My experience at Chung Ki Wa was not particularly memorable so I decided to try Haewoondae...and I am very glad I did! Although this place is a bit rundown and dirty, the food here is so good. Our waitress was extremely busy but efficient and attentive, with lots of energy! First off, they have AMAZING soup here! No idea what was in it or what it's called but it was delicious. I had BBQ with a group of 5 here and we surprisingly had a good amount of bbq meat provided for us. The kalbi and bulgogi were marinated really well and they were nice enough to even grill the bone for us because my dad loves chewing on it (he claims it's super savory and the best part~). The marinated veggies for the banchan were delicious~ I can tell they make their own fresh kimchi. To top off our meal, they gave us watermelon too! Overall a good experience as I enjoyed all the food a lot. It's a bit expensive, but when is korean food not?

I went in with my friend and found it completely empty. Very surprising! It was lunch time around noon. Okay, maybe it was 12:20 pm on a weekend (Sunday, to be more precise). I thought it was kind of strange. Our bill came out to $30 which was expected and the jigae was nice. I wish that my bi bim bap came with bulgogi or kalbi. It was vegetarian and served with a fried egg sunny side style. Usually weekends are a-bustling with business, but I digress. One thing that I thought was unnerving was that it was hard to flag down the waitstaff to get a refill on water, extra plates, and retrieving the check. Only when we left did people start to come in hordes.

I came here for BBQ (Kalbi) on my first visit. The cashier haggled for a tip on some waaaay overpriced food. Anyway that time it was ok at best. The ban chan is pretty dead. It looks like it belongs in a kim pab narang restaurant or something. I came back a second time for kalbi tang. The beef tasted like it was a year old. Please do yourself and go to Korea Town for Korean food. Esp. Miss Korea. Best place I've been to in NYC.

ive been coming here for years. in fact, this was the very first korean restaurant i ever ate at when i was like 14. its is a hole in the wall, no frills mom and pop korean joint. they use actual charcoal grills, which is a bit of a rarity these days. decently priced food, always good service and good wholesome crowd. its a really ideal location to get to by subway...but parking might be a little tough during peak hours. everything on the menu is reliably above-average. theyre open 24 hours in case you have that kalbi craving at 4AM. my only complaints are that sometimes the freebie dishes are scarce and boring, but this isnt always the case. definitely the best spot outside of flushing or midtown, imo. my family makes a pilgrimage here at least 2 times a year and i bring friends as an intro to korean cuisine. for me - id say im here at least 4-5 times a year. ive been to many places, but this place just feels like home.

I feel like this place deserves a better rating. It is indeed my favorite neighborhood korean spot. Partially maybe because this is the only place that let's me order a seafood pancake without scallion :D Their complimentary side dish always fill the entire table and they often come in a good variety of veggie and fish. You can't go wrong with their kalbi and seafood tofu casserole. The portions here are always generous. I'm not Korean, but this place taste as close as it gets to home.

Good place to have Korean food near our home because it opens 24/7, and love the service. Usually come late at night and early morning!

After a long haul morning and early afternoon of operating on-the-go without substance, a friend sought me for Korean BBQ. Party of two for a late lunch/early dinner at 3:30pm where this dinning hall was nearly empty. My friend, being a typical male, wasted no time to order a bottle of OB Korean Beer while we were culling through the menu and stumbled with "table d' hote" as one of their categories. Why is there a French dinning term in a Korean BBQ restaurant? Further onwards into the menu where dinner entrees are served at 3:30pm for extreme overprice at $23.00 and above where only the shamelessly rich and guilt-free can only afford. Our waitress gave us the most vulgar scowl look while answering our questions which fend us a bad taste thus we quickly made our grand exit to another restaurant without further ado.

Poor service, over priced food. The waitress weren't helpful at all, the rating is definitely too high here. Will never go there again, a waste of money.

I would not recommend this place for anyone who actually craves korean food at a reasonable price. Kalbi is $35 which costs more than city prices and the portion is enough to feed a toddler. Unfortunately, I have yet to find a korean restaurant in queens that employ korean chefs.

A solid 3 stars. The food is solid - pretty good actually - and can easily compete with the K-town and Flushing restaurants. Ban chan -Hands down, the best kim chi. All the others were pretty standard, but the kim chi was the best I've had. I always end up asking for seconds. Kalbi -It was only two of us so we had 1 order. Since it was a small order, it was cooked in the kitchen. Which, in my opinion, better so I don't have to walk out smelling like restaurant! -The meat was flavorful and cooked perfectly with just the right amount of burnt. -What I loved is that they also grill the bone. The little pieces still left on the bone is great to gnaw on. Cold noodle -Was exactly what you would expect. Seaweed soup -First time ever trying this. It's a clear soup with a beef broth base and a ton of seaweed. The seasoning was also spot on - not too salty. -What surprised me (since I never had it before), was the beef slices that was added to the soup as I was only expecting seaweed. Standard freebies -Kim chi soup with tofu and beef. A little too salty, but I can't complain - it was free! -Egg custard aka my favorite on-the-house freebie. We were given this the first time we dined there, but was definitely missing it during the most recent visit. Is it normal to ask for this considering it's free?? Again, the food is pretty solid. But the inconsistent service cost Haewoondae the 4th star. The service during the first visit was extremely attentive. The servers never missed a beat. But during the most recent visit, our request for tea was never fulfilled, the accompaniments for the kalbi was given to us 5 mins after we received the kalbi, and to top it off... Our waitress came by after the seaweed soup was placed on the table. She took the ladle and swirled it around the soup for 2 seconds, picked up the individual serving bowls and left. We thought she was going to help and serve the soup, but I guess she was more interested in catching up with her friends in the next table.

For those that are not able to venture out to Flushing or Midtown, this is a great alternative for Korean BBQ. And, they accept credit cards and keep the prices from getting our of control. The staff was fast and attentive and the service (complimentary dishes) given was more generous than most. When you are seated, you are given a warm glass of barley tea and then a banchan service including fried fish, homemade tofu, and pajeon as well as the regular banchan dishes. Normally, you would have to pay extra for these dishes at most restaurants. The fish (crispy with sauce), tofu (rustic and more flavorful than I am used to when ordering this dish), and pajeon (actually crispy and not cold!) were all very good quality as well. The boiling stone pot of Kimchi Stew was loaded with thin sliced strips of pork belly, kimchi, and glass noodles. If you order two or more BBQ dishes then you can grill at the table and have two additional small service pots (one stew and one egg), but we only ordered one dish so it was cooked in the kitchen. I had the Spicy Pork, which was of course spicy and not too sweet with a large amount of pork with not too many onions or carrots. Lettuce wraps and ssamjang was also provided. Yes! The price was only around $18 for this dish, and in the city I would normally pay around $22. A very good deal, with good quality, and bountiful service. I am impressed and will definitely return!

After a long day of work, who doesn't want to be gluttonous and eat a bunch of Korean Food. We get the seafood pancake and Kalbi. There are definitely better Korean food places but this is a nice stop for those who live in Elmhurst.

I came back in the afternoon with my boyfriend during a 95F-humid day. I ordered bimbimbap because I needed veggies but my boyfriend got Naengmyeon. Ahh so much regret. They had the BEST cold noodles. Light, crisp, vinegary and sweet with Korean pear and cucumber. The noodles were fantastically chewy. Bimbimbap was alright. They needed more sesame oil or flavor to the rice (seasoning?) -- meat was sparse and the veggies were pretty basic but good. I just covered it with hella gochujaang. It was good, but it was too hot to eat on a too hot day. This time I came around, I saw grill pans out and people were eating kbbq so maybe next time we'll swing around again if I can cook myself. Waitstaff (the guys) are fluent in English. I am actually impressed this time around. I'm glad I gave it another go still overpriced for Queens.

Not a good enough restaurant to mandate a 15% tip. They wouldn't let us leave without giving a 15% tip. I didn't know it was the law that you had to tip at all, I gave a $5 tip and they said it wasn't enough. Oh well, won't be coming back here anymore. If they wanted us to tip, they should've just included it in the bill in the 1st place.

One of the best Korean places around. The banchan offerings here are plentiful and delicious. The panjun is awesome... crisp yet moist with a good amount of seafood in it. The bulgoki comes (if they cook it for you) sautéed with onions and mushrooms - the sauce is rich and flavorful. The kalbi is awesome and comes tenderized for you. The ox tongue is pretty good as well. The staff is very attentive and friendly. If you can make it here for lunch (M-F), you're gonna get a steal for what you're paying. You will leave here just as full as if you would from Picnic Garden..and pay just about the same. YUM

Service here is ridiculously bad!!! Came here with my fiancé tonight. We were seated by the door when they clearly had tables available away from it. Then we were given cold tea, seriously? What the heck? It's winter!! Not sure why they gave us cold tea when everyone else was given hot tea (we could tell that they had hot tea because steam was coming out of their cup). I asked the waitress if she could give us hot tea instead. She tried to argue with me that we already had hot tea on our table. Okay yeah...I can't tell the difference. She's seriously crazy! Then they bring us hot tea in different sized cups. The size of the cups were dramatically different. I wish I had taken a picture. It was so strange - kinda funny in a bad way! Anyway, the fiancé and I bailed. We went to the korean restaurant (Chungki wa) down the street.

I've been living in Jackson Heights for several years now, and this has always been one of my regular places to eat at. Lately, my brother, bf, and I have all been getting the Kalbi Tang. Even though it's $15, you get big chunks of beef in it. YUM! I usually can make 2 meals out of it. We also request the "brown rice" instead of the white rice that comes with it, it looks like white rice with red beans in it. For a while, we were ordering Yook Gae Jang (poor man's beef & noodle soup) or Soo Long Tang (sp?) (beef & noodle clear soup - which I always get for after the drunken nights). The Soo Long Tang (sp?) is great; I never get a hangover the next morning. As for the alcohol, I'm a big fan of getting Soju and Bek Se Ju mixed together. The Soju is like Korean Vodka and the Bek Se Ju is like a Ginger drink. The Bek Se Ju re-energizes me for the next morning. The secret to Korean drinking! They also deliver for lunch or dinner. I also like the fact that they're open 24 hours!

Pro: The food is great, I'd definitely eat there again just for that. Con: The service is a little poor. I don't know if I was being paranoid? But I felt very out of place there.

Another after dark, SPICY drunk people restaurant food!! Likes: 1.This place is open 24 hours. 2.The prices are reasonable and portions are big. 3. Entrees and side dishes are good. I recommend their BBQ pork, Kalbi and kimchi jigae. Dislikes: 1. No parking lot. Street parking only. 2. Service isn't the best. The staff isn't attentive even though there's no customers at 5 AM in the morning. The food is good; but because of the poor service, I won't be coming here if other restaurants are open.

Been here once, the place was relatively empty. Service and food were mediocre--I didn't do the ordering. I didn't have the most memorable experience, but I'm willing to give them another try.

Lovely place for Christmas dinner. We had bibimbop and the chicken cooked with rice, dates and chestnuts (along with the plentiful free side dishes!). Everything was very good, could use a little more salt, but lucky for us, they put a really cool salt and pepper dish on our table. The free appetizers were a meal in itself. Service was great. I had the hot stone bibimbop, and the hostess came by to show me how to get to the best part (the burnt rice). When I told her that it hadn't formed, she took back the bowl and had them reheat it. Very kind. They were also very accommodating to a vegetarian diet. Thanks!

  • Lucy L.

The BBQ serving wasn't a lot and we ordered sliced beef. Unseasoned so not much flavor but you could dip them in sauce and wrap in lettuce. Codfish and clam soup was pretty good! And bibimbap was okay.. The rice and meat were a little dry when left long in the stone bowl. Overall 3.5 stars , friendly and fast service though.

it wasnt that bad but hey, it's new york, there are plenty of great Korean restaurants where you can taste authentic food and will be served with attentiveness. Certainly, this place is not one of them. I have been here 2 times only because i was dying for k food sometimes and i live nearby. The food was mediocre and the service was just like the food quality. 2nd review: I gave it 3 stars at first and last month I went there and had bbq beef and pork. And I got diarrhea. I had a very terrible time due to the food I spent over 70 bucks. I will not go there any more.

Every time my boyfriend and I come we get greeted as soon as we walk through the door. They seat us very quickly and are always so so so nice. The food is always amazing and I'm obsessed with Korean food so having this place close to my home is so great! It never disappoints with the quality and they hand you your check in your hand very respectfully. Its a wonderful place and I definitely recommend it!

The 5 stars are for their Stews and Hot Pots. They are all delicious. I also have a soft spot for them because they introduced me to Kimchi Jigae. Very simple but soooo amazing. It's now one of my favorite things to eat and after trying it at different Korean spots all over New York, no one can compare. When it comes to their BBQ meats I'd say go somewhere else

I went here with my friend, the service was great! And there was soo much food !! We order Bibimbap sliced grilled sirloin and kimchi potato pancakes, everything was so delicious!! The service was impeccable ! We also ordered their black raspberry wine which comes in a bottle for the table. I love this place and can't wait to try everything in the menu!

Worst place ever got a order of bul ko ki and it's supposedly $26 and is this small ass dish and we also got the beef bi bim bap and there's literally like two baby pieces of beef and called it a bi bim bap wtf!! Literally when we asked them if this was the beef bi bim bap they spooned out two pinches of beef and was like here completely outraged!!

I came in before the lunch special hour to avoid the crowd. The food was pretty delicious but I think the side dishes were not as well made as other resteraunts aound the block. However, the soondobu was great and the right amount of spiciness didn't over power the other ingredients such as veggies and seafood in the soup.

Ive ordered cold noodle w my gf for lunch on a saturday where it was empty. It was super good until.... I found a piece of hair on the broth....... DISGUSTING!!!!

i always order the buddae jiggae and seafood pancake sometimes and basically fill myself up with the freebie sides in the beginning. The jiggae was pretty good, can't say it was the best i ever had but it was good nevertheless. the sides in the beginning was missing the steamed eggs. i think only one korean place offers that over in k-town. oh they did have these potato side dish that were pretty addictive. the price was semi on the expensive side, especially for a queens joint. my jiggae was $13, i could get it for a couple dollars less at other places. i definitely prefer haewoondae over its neighbor 2 blocks over because that place has a loud ass bar next door and you could never have any peaceful eating at night without bass pumpin in your ear. but on to why haewoondae gets 5 stars. its the waitress here. ariel, i believe her name is. she has got to be the friendliest waitress i ever encountered. i know it gets lost sometimes, but a waitress should always be friendly and inviting. too many places, in particular asian joints are lacking that. they normally just do what they have to without a smile or friendly demeanor and be on their way. but not our ariel. i don't think this girl knows how to frown. she was always smiling and in a good mood. very attentive, albeit in a semi-empty restaurant during my late night dinner. always quick with refilling our sides as we down them pretty hastily. she was pretty damn cute too. hell, i think i have a little crush on her. and the other waitress, i noticed, was pretty friendly too. god forbid, two friendly waitresses in one place. so go here and tip ariel extra. just don't flirt with her please.

I love this restaurant. It is much better than the other Korean restaurant a blog away. Haewoondae has appetizer size jap chae, which is so convenient if you don't eat very much, and a very long list of delicious Korean soups. The servers here are always friendly to you too.

It's one of my favorite restaurant in this neighborhood. I prefer to give 5 stars if their bbq quantity matches prices. It is too expensive compare with restaurant in the city

I've been coming here for years and for the most part it's always great. There's been an odd occasion when the quality may have been off, but that can happen to the best chefs. For a neighborhood spot it's still my go to!

Quick Korean go to place and it being right next to the train makes it a definite! Soup is deliciously spicy but not over done as the waitress was kind enough to make it to taste. The price is right too! At $13.95 it is enough soup to feed two people! The Banchan are different from other places (I have been to only a few other places) but they are plentiful.

This is my first time having Korean food. The service was good. I had the BBQ Beef plate which came with a lot sides like rice, noodles and veggies. It was pretty good. The tea was good. The prices are decent also. This place is not fancy or anything but it is a good place for lunch or a quick dinner.

A decent Korean place for hot pot. Ordered the mushroom and seaweed broth hotpot with a friend, it was pretty good, portions are definitely huge and filling. They have purple rice, and a slew of the usual complimentary condiments. I'd come back but with more friends, portions are too big for me. Although the food was slightly above average I put 4 stars for the customer service. Highly recommend the very friendly and courteous waitstaff.

One of the best Korean restaurants in queens!!! Often go here with my co-worker for lunch and service is great! My favorites are, Yuhkejang, Kalbitang, Kimchi jigae, Budae chige (sausage, tofu and some noodles) and samgketang!!!! The side dishes are fulfilling as well. The kimchi is just right along with a whole grilled horse mackarel at times!!! Out of my favorites, Yuhkejang is my favorit as it has many veggies and sliced beef with a lot of soup. Often mix the rice in the soup at the end to finish it off.

Two days in a row! What was I thinking? But with such generous portions my first time around, I had to come again. And a charcoal grill! Awesome!! But the second time, there wasn't as much ban chan (appetizer dishes), portions were smaller all around for both the ban chan and dishes. They didn't even let us use the charcoal grill, but had a portable propane gas grill brought to our table. As the night progressed, people started to get fried whole mackerel as one of their ban chan which is one of my favorite dishes. I was a bit upset that we didn't get it, but my guess is that after a certain time they start to serve it. A few Korean groups that had arrived after us, also didn't get it, but later customers did. Also as we were getting ready to leave, they brought out charcoal for one grill, while everyone else had propane gas. My guess is that as the night progresses into the later hours, the charcoal grills are used and portions such as jap chae and their ban chan can be twice the size. Regardless, their spread is great, being one of the better one's, ranging from tofu, black soy-like beans, thin slices of fish cake, and the regulars like kimchi, pickled cucumber, seaweed salad, bean sprouts, creamy pasta/apple salad, and spinach. Don't be afraid to ask for more of your favorite dishes. Decor is unattractive and boring, with tables sprawled out on either side of the long railroad-style room. It's almost tacky with the Christmas lights near the front bar-like area. But what lacks in ambiance, definitely makes up in the quality of their food. Some of the dishes that I tried: Sol Gom Tang ($9.95) - ox tripe and bone simmered for hours, in a creamy white broth with slices of lean beef, sprinkled with chopped scallions and noodles. Alone, the broth can be rather bland, but that is where the two little containers of salt and Korean chili paste come in hand. Pour in to your liking, to make this rather boring dish, pretty stellar. Kalbi Gui ($24.95) - thick slices of beef short rib marinated in a house BBQ sauce. Smoky, tasty and tender. Combined with the salty and not too spicy ssam jaang (hot pepper and bean paste), and wrapped in romaine lettuce for some crunchy texture, makes for one of my favorite places for kalbi (my other favorite being Map BBQ). Thank goodness for the charcoal grill that makes the kalbi beyond delicious. Two thumbs up! Bulgogi ($21.95) - thin slices of prime sirloin also marinated in a house special sauce. The bulgogi was tender and not grisly at all. Yummy, though I'd probably pay a couple more dollars and settle for another dish of their yummy kalbi. Kimchi Jun ($12.95) - Crispy and not too greasy kimchi pancake that packs some subtle yet noticeable heat. A tasty treat after all that protein. Japchae (appetizer: $6.95) - these soft rice noodles are served hot with marinaded shredded beef, garden fresh vegetables, in a not too salty oyster sauce. A staple dish that doesn't disappoint. Also served with all our food was a hot pot of steamed egg (similar to steamed egg souffle) and a simple version of soondubu jigae consisting mainly of tofu and vegetables. Service was great as our waitress would always make sure that our cups of Korean tea were filled. They also do a great job grilling the meat, making sure to not overcook it, and either putting it on the side of the grill or on a separate dish. I definitely rate Haewoondae as one of my favorite Korean restaurants, not just in Elmhurst but all around a place that won't disappoint. I highly recommend checking this place out for their delicious kalbi and soup dishes. Two times this establishment has not disappointed, and I will surely be back again. And 24 hours?! I can surely get my Korean food craving any time of the day!!

I have to be honest that I have been spoiled by Hahm Ji Bach. I finally decided to give this place a try after keeping it bookmarked for a while, and it's proximity of commute on a chilly windy night. Although the banchan dishes they serve are not as many as Hahm Ji Bach would, they were still as tasty and good enough portion for two people. We each got an entree with a pork bbq to share. Everything was good enough portion that we did not have to pack any left over or waste left over banchan. I am kind of conservative in a way that I must judge a place by it's classic dishes when trying out a new restaurant. While the pork belly BBQ and my spicy buckwheat noodle were delicious the hot bibim was passable. Maybe I did not put good enough portion of sauce in it to be mixed. Overall, it was a pleasant dining experience in a very roomy restaurant.

First time coming here and we were very satisfied!! And Full!! We were seated fast, the service good and B10 was the most unforgettable thinly sliced pork BbQ marinated in their special spicy sauce! I'll probably even dream about it for days!

Hae Woon Dae has been in my Yelp bookmarks for such a long time! Finally my boyfriend and I were able to try it out about 2 weeks ago. We walked to the restaurant and dined in. We went on a Sunday night around 7 or 8pm and it was busy (lots of Koreans so that's a good sign). Although they were busy it did not comprise the quality of the service. Our waiter/server was awesome. He was super friendly, offered us menu recommendations, and even explained how some of the menu items are served. We ordered the #1 Kalbi Gui/short ribs ($24.95) and the #54 Yook Gae Jang/shredded beef brisket soup ($10.95). There was also various delicious banchan. We shared the banchan and both menu items are were completely stuffed! We took our leftovers home, there was enough for 2 more servings. I liked the food and the service at Hae Woon Dae and will be back to try more dishes! Plus they deliver and they are open 24 hours!!!

Me and Wifey made a visit over the weekend... This place was alright... Food was tasty, sides were okay, nothing to go crazy over, IMO.... I think the beef portions could have been larger, much larger... For $30 bucks a portion... Me alone could take down 2 and a half portions, I'm a slim dude too, at least that is what I keep telling myself and everyone around me... The glass noddles were good, forget what they are called, I'm good with pictures but bad with names... good thing I got a large order of the noodles... we also got a noodle soup that was ehh... Maybe if they put more beef in the order, they would have gotten another star, I dunno.... I dunno... It was not a terrible exp, but not the greatest as well if you get my drift...

The best in Elmhurst! This place beats almost all of the Korean restaurants in flushing and that means alot! Great service with endless side dishes that keeps coming!

Delicious! Incredible value for dinner, too. Had seafood stew on my first visit. Just $9.95, and it included the generous servings of appetizers. Staff is the real deal; friendly and attentive. The waitress even brought me extra appetizers when I finished the first round.

I so want to give this place a great review. I think the food is fantastic and service wonderful. First visit I had yuk gae jjang (excellent) and my boyfriend had dduk mandu guk (some of the best I've ever had). The other night we had bulgogi & doejji - also great. And haemul pajeon which was REALLY REALLY good. Ban chan is average -- not as much variety as Ham ji Bach in Flushing but quite good. The problem is both of us have felt less than good after eating there (I'm sparing all the details). Both times we went this happened. This is not an American-eating-Korean food thing nor a spicy-food thing. I spent over a year in Korea and eat both Korean and other spicy food regularly. I travel internationally a lot so my stomach has faced it all and I know when there's something just not right. If I wasn't so forgiving because of my travel experience, I'd give this place one star. For whatever reason, I'm willing to sacrifice comfort for taste some times. No one else seems to be complaining so maybe I just had bad batches of macaroni salad. But sadly this place is way too close to other great Korean restaurants to bother going again. Sorry!

I went with my half Korean friend and his full Korean mom approves of it so it must be good, right? My overall rating was: Food = Good; Service = Good; Ambience = OK Food: We ordered the mixed seafood scallion pancakes, jap chae, and BBQ Bulgogi and Kalbi. All dishes were the standard Korean dishes and tasted good. The jap chae was a bit on the sweet side but a little dip in the salty sauces provided a good balance. The BBQ meats were as they should be as well but just a note before ordering Bulgogi - it won't be able to be cooked Korean BBQ style. Service: Attentive but not overbearing. The food and drinks were brought out quickly. They didn't try to rush us out and let us linger past when we finished our meal. Ambience: Not divey but nothing fancy. Your regular Korean-style restaurant - tables with BBQs in the middle.

I came here on mother's day with a party of six and was happily surprised by this place. I usually expect a lot of ignoring when I go to Korean restaurants because I can't speak Korean, but this place was top-notch in hospitality. We got around 6 appetizer dishes, and they refilled them without any fuss and without us asking some times. The seaweed one was amazing - delicate green seaweed with a little spice. There was also the standard kimchi and a little stranger dish - 2 roasted fish. The fish was tender and salty, pretty good. They also served bean curd skin, spicy and chewy. There was also a cold casserole/macaroni dish that I didn't care much for. They also served puffy egg and a soup on the house, probably because we had a large party. Kai bi - very tender and well marinated. For $27.00, it was quite expensive, but worth it. The bulgogi was cheaper, around $23.00, but not nearly as good as the kai bi. Spend the extra few dollars and get the former. I also got the jap che, which was pretty oily, but still tasted very good. There was definitely a lot more veggies than noodles. The tofu soup was standard, nothing great, nothing awful. They don't have a wide selection of tofu soups. Overall, this place is amazing, and close to home. I don't have to trek all the way to Flushing anymore for some good 'ol Korean!

I never got the whole fried fish banchan. Seriously, I got jipped. Where was it? I did, however, enjoy the dilis and steamed egg banchan very much. Best of all was that veggie salad with apples, a standout. Our waitress wasn't very helpful. But, that was solely because of the language barrier. I suppose it didn't really matter much, the menu was rather large and every item was very well described. But, when I'm trying a new Korean restaurant, I don't need to read menus or descriptions. I know what I want. SOON DOO BU, soft tofu caserole. I often judge a restaurant by their version of my standard favorite. There are many places in Flushing well known for this dish that offer many varieties --- mushroom, kimchi, beef, chicken, clam, etc. The only kind available here was a mixed seafood variety and I went with that. Sadly, I was very disappointed. It was alright, but there was definitely something lacking in the flavor. The chopped chilis that I also enjoy were noticeable absent. To a novice, it might have seemed tasty but I found it bland and generally lacking. When it arrived, it was hot. But, it's supposed to arrive bubbling and very much alive. Instead of giving me a raw egg to crack into the concoction, they had already pre-placed a shelled hard boiled egg inside. Not too authentic, or at all what I'm accustomed to. Mama got the Sol Gom Tang, a lamb meat and tripe stew served with noodles. Although she did eat it, she didn't enjoy it much. She too complained that her dish was flavorless. They gave us some chili paste, so she dumped in a generous amount to make it edible. Jap Che was a redeeming dish. Simple Korean vermicelli with assorted vegetable, but really well done. A two star rating might seem a bit harsh. I see the potential in this place. And meat lovers will probably have given it a much higher rating. Sadly, the main dishes we ordered probably didn't reflect the best they had to offer. That, and I've been spoiled by a number of Korean restaurants in Flushing.

Doesnt get any better. Its been a good year since I have had some Korean BBQ. My friend had mentioned she wanted to try it and when plans fell though for the evening, I thought it was the best time to drag her to this spot for some seriously good eating. The restaurant was a little busy but we were seated right away. Two hispanic girls in a Korean BBQ joint. We did not receive stellar service. Having been a regular there prior to my one year sabatical, I was treated like an idiot. But thats okay. I would treat me like an idiot too. The food is great so luckily, i am not reviewing based on that technicality. We ordered kalbi and jap chae. The ban chan was wonderful as always. I can never get enough bitter greens. They are a little stingy with the red pepper paste, but if you ask nicely, they will refil your dish (that you scraped clean) Halfway through my meal, i noticed my jap chae never came out. When i asked the watiress if it was ready she rolled her eyes and told me it was coming... and then 5 minutes later a piping hot order was in front of me. Me thinks they forgot about it... but damn. It was good. My friend LOVED the bbq and cant wait to go back. Happy to share a new food with someone and then having them LOVE it! Good times! Might have to show my face here more so i can get some better service. My hips dont lie- i EAT.

If you can, head to Flushing for Korean food. If you can't, then this place is not a bad alternative. I haven't tried out much (and I'll update this review once I have) but the food I have tried was pretty good but wasn't anything particularly special. I got sul lung tang and was satisfied. The service was great, very fast and attentive. Anyways, I need to check out this place a bit more before I make a final judgement.... but I will be back, if that says anything. Update #1: So I've been here a couple more times since my first review and everything has been pretty consistently good. The service is fast, the food comes out quickly and they have a spicy soondae gook (), which is delicious. Also, they serve boricha (), which automatically brings them up a notch in my book.

I came to this place with my family. It's open a mindblowing 24 hours. The bbq was alright, and the staff was very friendly. Korean BBQ is always on the steep side for me, but that's alright. It was a chill spot, and the tea was good.

Solid but def not the best. IMO, Chung Kiwa (a block or two down Broadway) is better. But the fact that it's open 24/7 is pretty sweet.

The restaurant is spacious and clean. Wait staff was very courteous. We were served a good amount of side dishes during lunch. The BBQ beef, seafood pancakes, and Japchae was delicious. So good that you will want to go to an Asian grocery to buy a pack of Korean glass noodles to make your own dish in the future. Stay away from poultry. Somehow Korean restaurants don't know how to serve up a good chicken dish. They treat it like beef and managed to over cook the chicken teriyaki.

Not the best Korean restaurant but I guess you don't have much option in this area. I remember about 10years ago, all the food tasted so much more authentic, close to how I had them in Korea. However, I guess as the years went by they had to adapt to the area where it was becoming less occupied by Koreans. The taste is not the best for me, but I guess it's become more Americanized. By Americanized, I mean a bit more bland and less spicy.

i have been here countless times during vampire hours and not once was i disappointed. they give so many banchan dishes and they are all fresh and delicious even the kimchi and i am pickY about my kimchi. yes the table bbq is good, yes the soondooboo is passable, the samgye tang not bad and the kalbi tang is delish but what i come here for is their GAMJA tang aka crack soup. i first had gamja tang at hahm ji bach and i fell in love immediately. not every korean restaurant serves this amazing soup/stew of pork bones and potatoe simmered in a spicy broth and Haewoondae adds sesame leaves which makes the soup so addicting. this place beats many of the korean restaurants in flushing, the location is good, there is ALWAYS parking at 3am and the food is always amazing. everytime i come here the staff is super sweet and i always notice throngs of korean people drinking and eating so you know this is a good korean restaurant.

This is one of my favorite restaurants, and I don't like Korean food that much. I have been coming here for the past 6 years. They are not good at everything, so you have to know what to order. The only thing to order here is BBQ. The thin beef (not the bulgogi) is great, they heat it over a portable gas grill thingy's, and the thick pork (samgyapsal) is very tasty. The kalbi is cooked over coals that they'll bring to your table (you'll have to order 2 for the coal). The meat quality are all very good. When you order 2 bbq, it also comes with steamed egg custard and miso soup, which is part of the service. The prices are all very reasonable and much cheaper than koreatown. 8 times out of 10, their banchan (free side dishes) selection is excellent and fresh. It depends on who the banchan person is coming in to work that day. They make it on the premises. There's usually about 8 banchans. I tried their soups and korean pancakes on their menu, and they were meh. So stay away from those. The 5 star rating is only for the bbq. I only go there for bbq.

Coming home late one night from Atlantic City with my sisters ....we found ourselves looking for a place to eat when we all got off from the E to Roosevelt and 74th St.... where we had parked our car before heading off by bus for the casino ...We had fun playing the .slot machines we forgot to eat dinner....Most of the places were closed ...but wait!!!! We drove past this Korean Restaurant ...the big neon sign ourside says ...Open 24 hours......That was my first love affair with the place. Last Saturday was the 2nd......Camille was craving for Soon Doo Bu , Soft Tofu and clamstew with Shrimps,Oysters, vegetables and egg in hotspicy broth..and I had my mind set on having Hwe Naeng Myun...spicy buckwheat vermicelli noodles with variety of raw fish topped with vegetables, spicy sauce, sliced beef, and boiled egg....so off we went to Hae Woon Dae..... she got her wish but unfortunately they didn't have mine so I settled for Bo Yang Tang...Seasoned Lamb meat and tripe stew with korean special vegetable in a special hot sauce. A very interesting dish...was okay but really didn't like it that much....can't make out the taste...very bland ...it's a good thing I ordered some Jap chae...korean noodles with assorted vegetables .it's so good.....and their Banchan was great!!! 10 kinds...from Kimchi..anchovies,daikon salad, spinach, seasoned tofu, tea eggs, .bean sprout, apple salad....and some kind of fish...it was good..at least it made up for the order I didn't care for much..... Next time I'll have Hot Pot....you can never g wrong with it....another thing the staff hardly speaks English...but they were very cordial and pleasant. Remember this place is open 24 hours..... .

This is a really good little korean place. The Bulgogi and Ribs are good, U can cook them at the table. Also the Kimchi Jigae with Ramen is REALLLLY GOOD. The Pork taste like it has wine in it, but the lady told me the kimchi is aged one month to make everything taste better. Also they have pretty good sides. They change it up and they are not stingy at all. It is kind of expensive but most korean places are. The seafood pancake and the beef rib noodle is good too.

They start you off with more complementary banchan than you get just about anywhere else -- 9 dishes total, and each portion was rather substantial -- there was a sort of ambrosia salad topped with crumbled egg yolk, a dried then stewed fish, kimchi, tofu, chopped cucumber, some sort of bitter green, some sort of spicy green, some sort of gelatinous noodle... Everything was great. Two men behind me were sharing a plate of raw oysters and what looked like poached pork belly, and then the table behind them ordered the same thing, I asked the waitress about it, showing a lot of enthusiasm, but she suggested instead I try one of the traditional Korean barbecue platters, so of course I took this as a challenge and asked for a few minutes to make up my mind... I would've ordered that dish but it was too large, and after all the banchan I didn't have a lot of appetite remaining... I decided on what looked like the weirdest thing on the menu, and boy did I get what I asked for: cow tripe stuffed with fish roe in a bowl of extremely sizzling and excruciatingly spicy broth that contained tofu and clams and shrimp and lots of jalapenos slices -- to say the least it was quite an experience, I couldn't eat it all, I wouldn't necessarily order it again, but I really enjoyed it quite a bit. I could easily see myself spending a few hours here, hanging out, eating slowly, drinking Soju, watching the employees making dumplings from scratch while chatting up a storm -- it's surprisingly clean and well-lit, there's lots of space between the tables, the service is very friendly and unimposing, and the atmosphere is very relaxing... I've walked by this place a few times and it always caught my eye, and I've had it bookmarked on Yelp for awhile because of all the great reviews, but for some reason I put it off until yesterday, and boy was I glad to finally try it -- I'll definitely be coming back soon, it'd be a very fun place to bring a group of friends.

Having eaten at some of the best Korean restaurants in Flushing/Bayside, Ft Lee/Pal Park, & the 32nd St area (ktown), I can tell you that this lesser known intimate establishment is the best Korean I've had out in western Queens and the closest to the authentic food that you'll find in those other popular known areas. Prior to finding this spot over a year ago, if I wanted any decent Korean, I'd have to venture out to Flushing. The 5 stars are meant with keeping it's unique location in mind. While the bbq iself (kalbi, samgyup sal, etc) isn't bad, my staples here were mainly the chigae's & tangs (soups, stews) - kimchi, daeng jang, kalbi tang, etc. Jungols (party sized soups) & pajun (crispy fried pancake) highly recommended as well. Also, they offer a great selection of banchan (courtesy side dishes) esp. if u order any of the bbq dishes. Often korean restaurants are compared by their level of banchan offerings. In particular, some notable mentions are the whole fried fish and my always expected steamed egg dish. On the service side, I've been taken care of fairly well but I believe thats partially come with me becoming somewhat of a regular since its a very small group of workers. To be fair, I did have one unfortunate incident after eating the bosam dish (boiled pork mixed w/ cabbage, pickled beats, kimchi, & raw oysters wrapped in lettuce) there due to the oysters being bad which I & a friend so painfully realized within the next few days. But I'm willing to forgive them once. So if you're looking for good, solid Korean food in the area at any time of day or night (24 hours *bonus*) without having to travel further east, you've got a new place in Haewondae. Enjoy!

A small, hole-in-the-wall, mini Flatiron Building-like corner on Broadway that serves Korean BBQ and more. Okay, it looks small from the outside but it's really quite spacious inside. And it doesn't reek of BBQ smoke, hallelujah! I like the food here. Flavours are authentic, portions are generous, side dishes are insanely multi-varied. Extra points for the complimentary Steamed Egg banchan and Fried Whole White Fish banchan. The servers do the table-side barbecueing for you, so you can enjoy dining instead of worrying about your bulgogi being charred. Prices are reasonable too, for the large amount of food they give you. This restaurant is great for a low-key evening of kick-ass food and you'll roll yourselves out of this joint with satisfaction.

NEVER NEVER NEVER EVER go HERE!!!!!!!! I have never been soooo angry or disappointed and pissy in my entire life as I was when I went here! So here is how the horrible story unfolds...Ron (AKA Me) and a friend decide after the knicks game to head to get some Korean Grub cuz I was feenins for some Kimchee Jang and some Oh jing bookum (Squid)....and we decided to head to this place cuz it was close to his place and I had to be in Queens for a fam get together for dinner....soo...La de da...we head to HaewonDae.... We walk in and literally there are 4 tables of people out of the 20 free tables...that should have raised a red flag in my lil brain BUT I thought perhaps Its cuz we're there after normal lunch hrs....we finally get seated after waiting 10 minutes for the Ghetto Krn jerkface waitress to stop flirting with the krn front desk dude.... So fine, I can;t hate on GAme so I let that go...BUt then after I ordered my food and my accomplices food...not only did she forget to give us appetizers, we had to ASK for the appetizers that are usually FREE!!!!!, she messed up my order. I told her, pointed at, drew out for her that i wanted Kimchee chi gae with Spam not pork...she brought over Kimcheebudugee with ramen no meat!!!!! and instead of bringing me ohjingbukkum...she brought me octopus!!!!!! Then she forgot to bring me rice....after asking her 15 times (no joke!) she finally brought over our rice and appetizers! BUt get this...this was the straw that broke the camel's back for me...she wouldn;t fix my order for me when she clearly was not paying attn to me cuz she wanted to get with yucky counter boy..... So i called over the manager who ended up being yucky counter man,...who instead of correcting the issue, just told me its kinda the same thing...so why am I complaining...Then ghetto/I hate life Ron busted out and I had to karate chop the crap out of them...J/K I promptly told him and the she-hoe that I would never eat there again and will not pay for those two items..and proceeded to leave Immediately!!!! Just NEVER go here if your looking for SERVICE. Quality, or Kindness!!!!!

Lunch value here = off the fucking chain. Spent $10 and got Bulgogi, along with a small portion of fried rice, a small pancake, and egg pancake type item and a couple of "meh" california rolls (seriously?) This also happened to come with what could only be described as piles of ban chan. I find that a lot of spots are a tad skimpy on it, especially if they don't have to see you in person. Here, though, they loaded us down with the stuff, even though it was takeout and we spent under $20 for the both of us. The Kimchi was just okay, but the rest of it was seriously on point. Cucumber kimchi, bean sprouts, more cucumber (but in a sweet sauce that I seem to find a lot of the time on those little black bean ban chan dishes), some greens in store bought Italian dressing (not exactly korean, but totally took me back to my near-addiction to Kraft Italian dressing on food when I was a kid) and rice. Not that much, selection wise, but other than the kimchi it was all fantastic. Also, they all came in really large amounts in medium sized plastic soup containers (this was take out), so it was actually more food in the ban chan than in the main dish. About that main dish, though: I don't normally get Bulgogi. I think I've had it like once, maybe twice in my life, back at the very beginning of my foray into foods that you don't find in a Ruby Tuesday's circa 1995. I don't normally like it because I recall it being kind of bland and I tend to prefer seafood and/or spicy dishes. I was actually very surprised with the quality of the meat. Lean, and nicely flavored, and had some sauteed onions mixed in with it. Will absolutely, absolutely be eating here again.

Hands down best Korean I've had in New York. One block away from "Romantico's" (Extremely Latin) gentleman's club, lies this seemingly unassuming 24 hour Korean BBQ. Apparently New York stoners are far more cultured that the Pizza Hut loving type with which I'm accustomed. I cheaped out and didn't go for the $24, grill at your table kalbi - although I did get to watch a waitress delicately peeling meat off of some ribs with tongs and a pair of scissors. It was like surgery. Delicious surgery. I ordered Yook Gae Jang - "Shredded beef brisket in spicy beef broth with scallions and noodles." I literally had to pause and just smell it for about 5 minutes because a) it smelled effing amazing and b) it was scalding hot. The broth was blood red and filled with tender meat, a ton of greens and glass noodles. After the assortment of 12 appetizer plates (including a Korean variation on fishsticks, 1/4 lb of marinated tofu, kimchee, seaweed salad...) i was already pretty stuffed and had to take most of it to go. Definitely worth the trip. Next time I'll hopefully be with a group and we can go the whole 9 yards with soju and all.

I got the ox bone noodle soup here while my husband got the huge pot of chicken and potato soup. The size of my soup was the same size as the spicy tofu soups, but his bowl was a much bigger bowl of hotness. I was actually kinda envious. So, about my soup. When I first drank it, I found it a bit bland, but then I realized the waiter had put two little bowls on my table - sea salt and red pepper. I realized quickly it was to be used to season my soup. Once I added enough salt to kill a fat man, I found the soup deeelicious! At first I thought there weren't enough noodles in mine, but by the time I reached the bottom of my bowl, I was extremely full and had had enough. Maybe it was all the pajun (seafood pancake) I ate or all the appetizers, but either way its a good soup if you're feeling blah. I don't recommend it if you're a big eater. As for the BBQ, I looked at the prices, and they're kalbi and bulgogi and etc, are much much more expensive than other Korean BBQ places. They average about $30 a plate, while I know other places nearby average $20-25. This place is good for smaller crowds if you don't feel like rubbing elbows with really loud and rowdy drunk korean men (Hamn Ji Bach), and if you don't feel like venturing out to Flushing. Hope all this helps.

Haewoondae is what Open Table would refer to as a "neighborhood gem." If you want authentic Korean food come to Elmhurst. Korean food in Manhattan is so overpriced, full of msg and stingy with banchan. I was raised in Korea, so trust me - the trip to Elmhurst will be well worth it if you feel its a stretch to travel to Flushing. It's really quiet and the share of banchan (side dish) is traditional jungshik (meal) style, with more than five dishes. Their dooboo (tofu) banchan is SO soft. I've had almost everything on the menu and I highly recommend their haemool pajun, soondae gook, denjang jigae and samgyupsal. Tip well because their service is excellent ... !!!

I go to Haewoondae whenever I feel like to have some Korean food because it is close to where I live and their food is quite good. Their decor is very Korean style and the service is okay. I am also glad that the lighting isn't too bright. I love their Kalbi gui from Haewoondae!!! The meat is very fresh and juicy!!! We also order the grilled squid, seafood pancake and tofu bowl. I tend to order grilled squid whenever I go to Korean restaurant, the grilled squid in Haewoondae is acceptable but nothing special. I would say everything is acceptable but like nothing really stands out except the Kalbi? but I have no complaints about it, you get what you pay for. Kalbi is much more expensive than other dishes. One other reason I like this place is because of their banchan. They have like 8 medium size banchan with pancake, kimchi, eggs, tofu, apple and so on.

This is one of my favorite Korean restaurants in all of NYC. The kalbi is wonderful and I am always served a generous selection of panchan. It's nice not having to travel to Flushing to eat Korean food this good. You can't go wrong with Hae Woon Dae!

You know you've walked into one of those hard core Korean BBQ restaurants, when the entire staff casts and glum eye in your direction, having not walked in with your Korean posse, because they could give a crap about you and your apparently-white-ass, because you're not part of the K-family. The worst is when they don't serve you the banchan because they figure you don't know the drill. I'm not saying this place did that, because after the stares I got, I turned around and walked out, just like I was asked to, via high-context, non-verbal communication. The food is ALWAYS incredible at these places, and I'm sure it is here, too. Koreans take a lot of pride in their work, especially in their restaurants. But WHY the attitude?!?! How could these people dislike me before they've even met me? Before I've gotten drunk and become obnoxious? Before I've started asking them if they're from Kyoto? Before trying to order General Tso's chicken or pad thai? I don't do those things, but they made me feel like I did.

I 've been to Korean BBQ places numerous times in Japan and Korea and loved it, so I wanted to try this place out. I ordered the sliced sirloin ($20) thinking that it would be BBQ'd at my table, but it was brought out already cooked. Still good, but make sure to look at the menu since only certain meats are BBQd in front of you. The sides they brought out with the meat were plentiful, with tofu, kimchi, bean sprouts, fish, seaweed salad, etc... etc... I also ordered the scallion pancake ($12ish) and although it was good, though I've had much better elsewhere. The waiter was nice and the place was clean. I'd definitely go again but make sure to order the kalbi to BBQ.

I come to this place maybe once a week. Everything is good -- bi bim bop, neang myun, sundubu jigae. The banchan (side dishes) is exhaustive although sometimes I wish it tasted a bit more fresh. I often make the trek to K-town and Flushing for good Korean, but Haewoondae holds its own. Added bonus for those who have the time during the day: discounted bento boxes and entree prices during (weekday) lunch!

What a gem, totally above my expectations! I was craving Korean and since I was already in Queens, I was too lazy to go back to Manhattan/Ktown. This restaurant is extremely spacious with large wooden tables. They were extremely generous with the complimentary appetizer dishes (the marinated cucumbers were my favorite!). We tried the buckwheat noodles, the kimchee jigae and the kalbi tang. Buckwheat noodles were fairly standard, kimchee jigae was on the acidic side... but the KALBI TANG was AMAZINGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG it's been 3 days and I still crave it...

This a 3 1/2 rating, but leaning to 4 for two main reasons: 1. This is a true Korean restaurant, standing in this quiet corner of Elmhurst, and serving an excellent Gop Chang Jun Gol (Spicy beef broth casserole, noodles and tripe) and the BEST grilled ox tongue (with salt & sesame oil) of the whole.....vicinity? (I dare not say Queens for respect to Flushing) 2. It's open 24 hours! Now, there would be no reason for you to actually find or come this long way to try this place unless you: A) Live around here B) Are dating someone who lives around here C) Are a lost tourist D) Trust implicitly in the veracity of my review. If you are D, then be forewarned of the aesthetics: our lovely mom & pop hippie love, unable to change that 1974 opening night "fabness" PLEASE ppl, pay attention, David Cassidy is alive and well in Elmhurst, Queens. The food: Kalbi Box =Yes. Korean style Pancake = check. Appetizers = plenty and some varieties absent from K-Town. Great, real & original food. Last but not least: I'm glad to report that something else survived all the way from the 70's; the price. Unchanged; your meal will cost a song. Four stars on LSD.

Ill be honest, being Korean, i came here for some home cooked style food, and was surprised at how mediocre it mediocre. Apparently the owner changed but the menu stayed the same. I'd go back again, but beware of certain things on the menu!

This is an authentic Korean barbecue restaurant open 24/7, with a warm and friendly staff who will patiently explain dishes to non-Korean diners. The waitresses will barbecue your meat at the table for you, and are so eager to help that they seem to take it as an affront if you start cutting or turning the meat yourself! The sound level is a bit loud, but that's due to the infectious fun that the other patrons -mostly Korean families and groups of friends- are having. The prices may seem steep at first glance, but that is more than offset by the large selection of complimentary panchan (appetizers) which will cover your entire table. Also, portion sizes are so large that I've never been able to finish a meal here; I'm always left with a generously-sized doggy bag. Although this is a barbecue restaurant, there is a sizable selection of delicious non-barbecue dishes such as noodles, soups, mandoo, bibimbap, etc., and even some Japanese dishes.

One of the best Korean restaurants I've been to in NYC. They start you off with more appetizers than I've ever seen at a Korean restaurant. Vegetable bimbibop was decent but the short ribs were delicious and not chewy at all. I've never tried tongue before but that was cooked in front of us on a grill that was somewhat like the bottom of a George Foreman grill where the grease dribbled off to the side. It was surprisingly good as well. It came out to about $20 a person for 4 people but definitely worth it for great Korean BBQ.
