Not sure what the hype is about. I get that they have a great selection of beers for the people looking to try something new, however most of the rare imports that you would want to try are crazy expensive. A little bit older crowd then I would like, late 30's-40's, it seemed.

Sturdy Midtown West bar and good meet up spot if you and your friends are beercentric like mine are. Menu is varied enough to satisfy and service is good if you make a point to charm your waitress and order heavily on the drinks. Making your way through all the beers on tap will keep you plenty busy.

Pretty good selection of beers, pretty good service at the bar. But the waitresses for table service were inattentive (though friendly when they stopped by.) Also, the AC seemed to have two modes when sitting at a table...off, and gale-force. So we moved to the bar. The waitress didn't notice for about 20 minutes, even though we'd been trying to order from her. And then she briefly paniced because she thout we had skipped out. The place wasn't even busy. Not a bad place, but not worth going out of your way for.

Surprisingly low key bar with a big-enough outdoor seating area. I thought it would be more touristy, but thankfully it wasn't. The beer menu is nice and nothing is too pricey (I was happy to pay $7 for my 22 oz hefeweizen ;)). I was happy to see a decent selection of Oktoberfest beers, especially since they weren't marked up for being seasonal (grrr to all bars that do that!). My girls loved their mixed drinks (the cookies and cream/peach schnapps martini is surprisingly tasty!). The down side: the food! My girls ordered the wild mushroom fries--um yeah...they're not fries. Basically, a big coffee cup with about 6 penis-looking sticks full of bland mushroom mix with burnt liquid (oh wait, "sauce") at the bottom. Not good. They were so turned off by the whole thing that they just stopped eating after a few bites (and yes, we had to play with the sticks a la 8th grade cafeteria;)) and ordered the very safe nachos. So the drinks and atmosphere were a plus, but I would definitely eat up before coming here--the food just isn't that good or remarkable.

Typical mid town west bar. The good things it has going for it are decent beer selections, friendly bartenders and HDTVs. It attracts too many tourists and some "locals" for my liking and but thats what you get in the area.

The House of Brews is a nice after-hours spot. They've got a great alcohol menu, and my favorite bartender Ray (shout out, what up?!) makes great recommendations every time. I've had some of the food, though it's not always the greatest. I can, however, consistently recommend the Belgian Frites - OMG, so good! All things considered, this is a pretty good place to spend an evening.

I had a really good time meeting up with colleagues here on a Friday evening. I tried some new beers, and fed the wall juke box machine. I'd go back.

Admittedly only just starting to drink beer. But if high-alcohol, domestic micro brews are your interest, House of Brews does not disappoint. The list is seasonal, so for now the draft selection is dominated by light beers. And if you're looking for a Belgian other than a basic Chimay, you should go elsewhere. The food menu is "extensive" (how many bar menus offer actual entree salads?). Ray, the bartender, is very knowledgeable about the selection, so don't be shy about reaching out to him for suggestions. Just watch it lest he flip a quarter into your glass while you're not looking! (No worries, he'll pour you a fresh one if he succeeds.)

This place rocks if you're in the area. They have a pretty good selection of different beers and, more importantly, knowledgeable staff who will assist in the decision making process. I have only sampled the appetizers and they were nothing special but who goes to the House of Brews for the food? Not me! I stumbled into this place while exploring a couple of years ago and make it a point to stop in again whenever I'm close by.

Need to go to a Broadway show? Need some after work drinks? Live in Hell's Kitchen? Well then do I have a good place for you.... House of Brews is definitely going to have the best beer selection anywhere near Times Square, no doubt about it. Also, a full bar, good food on the menu and a fun atmosphere with lots of TVs.

This place was better than I expected. The beer menu was respectable, but not the best I've seen. It took awhile to get a drink. Prices were a bit on the expensive side. The upper level was sort of cramped. Around 1:30 AM, they turned on the lights as their "time to leave and go home" signal which I wasn't so fond of.

Decent beer selection but expensive. Mediocre atmosphere.

Nice (by that I mean annoying) selection of tourists fresh out of broadway shows.

Been here, done that, what can ya do? Typical Heartland style bar except they do have a great beer selection. I guess if I had nothing else to do I would come here, but now that our office is a full 3 avenues away, I doubt we will bother to make the trek to stop off for a beer and a snack here. Not that there's anything wrong with HoB, it's just that there's nothing spectacular either.

Watched the Jets-Colt AFC Championship game here this past Sunday. I was referred to this place because of the 25 cent wings during NFL games and thought that I would give it a try. We had a great time. We got there about 25 minutes before the game and the place was packed all around the bar but empty upstairs. Unfortunately, all of the seating was reserved upstairs and filled up quickly by game time. We found a couple of seats at the bar and after some negotiating with our fellow Jets fans, we got people to move around to get a few bar seats together. Lucky us, the seats were all in front of one of the BIG TV's. We had an amazing view. There are TV's all over the place so I think there isn't a bad view in the whole place. They had cheap beer ($2.50 Bud Lights, $4 Stellas, and $5 Hoegardens (spelling?)) and cheap wings at 25 cents a piece. We each got 10 a piece (minimum order) and tried the "Buffalo" flavor. They also have "BBQ" flavor. Wow...for 25 cents, you sure get huge wings. I was expecting those tiny wings thinking that I would re-order by the end of the 1st quarter. Well, between the beers and the big wings, I was stuffed on just 10 by half time. They were a bit dry but still delicious and instead of celery and carrot sticks, we got celery and cucumber sticks with blue cheese. The atmosphere was great at the downstairs bar throughout the whole game. The 1st half was nuts and you heard the obvious J-E-T-S chants as well as the 2 lone Colts fans clapping while the rest of the bar was silent during the second half. Bartender was friendly and generous with the drinks. The waitress girls serving the tables we pretty cute but dressed pretty conservatively. It seems like they have been slow lately as I heard a few of them complaining about it finally being busy this Sunday. We stayed for both games and had a great time. The crowd was late 20's/early 30's mainly but that's what you get in Hell's Kitchen. A good sports bar crowd. There were some older people who came in from the Theater Crowd and were disappointed to see that it was NFL Sunday. They also played the volume for the games which makes it a proper sports bar. Overall, I will be coming back here next season for a Jets game or two. The location is Hell's Kitchen but it's close to the blue, yellow, and red lines so easy to get there and meet people at. To summarize: Beer...4 stars; Wings...3.5 stars; NFL Sunday Atmosphere...4 stars; Bartender and Waitresses...4.5 stars; Sports Bar...4 stars; Overall...4 stars On our way out, we were told that they have a decent menu other than wings but that will have to wait till another day.

Leeanne is AMAZING! She is easy to talk to, and super attentive. Leeanne is super witty and engaging- it makes the second floor of the House the best place to be! Another awesome person to bump into at the house of brews is Angie- these two ladies will make your afternoon or evening most fabulous;)

Excellent selection, sports on the telly and a great cast of characters at the bar. Great place for catching a beer buzz and people watching. This place has been added to my NYC pub crawl list, and will now replace the recently demised Scruffy Duffy's!

I found this place by asking a complete stranger on the sidewalk if there were any good bars nearby. She said that she lived right by one and that if I walked with her she'd show me. Then she came back with a few friends and hung out with me. That's pretty cool, don't you think? I came to Manhattan to explore the city on my own (I live in Chicago), and this shows me that there are some good people around here. As for the bar, it has a lounge upstairs and a pub downstairs. And a great beer selection. I had four different beers that I had never heard of before. I like that. Service was good, and the Greek salad I had was pricey ($12 I think), but delicious.

OK, so we had dinner and had about 90 minutes to kill before our show (thank you to our friend for the gift tix to Jersey Boys...). Where to go for a beer (or two or three)? YELP! Aha, The House of Brews is right around the corner AND they have Duvel Green (draft), which we hadn't yet tried. Off we go down the street and there it is, easy enough to find. We have a seat at the bar and start ordering the Duvel (my wife who travels to Belgium on business far too often pronounces it "Duvull", but the bartender kept on correcting us by saying "Duvell"). I tend to believe my jet-setting spouse, but whatever, can we please just have a beer?? The Yankee playoff game is on (and I don't care because I'm a loser Met fan, but its a bar in NYC so what do I expect?). But the beer is good. And cold. And goes down nice. A few Duvels (or was it Duvells?) and an hour later its time to go. The bill? Whoa - $60 for those few Duvels each! Ahhh, Theater District prices - love it! But hey, that stuff is strong so we got some good alcohol content bang for our buck. Oh yeah, Jersey Boys was pretty good on a Duvel buzz too.

good selection of beers was helped by kathleen the waitress who suggested GREAT beers for our tastes prices are good and the table tap made our whole trip!!! plus points for it being walking distance to our hotel at the hampton inn. i give it 4 stars because i'm not sure what it's like on a busy weekend but we got there early on saturday when we were done with the tourist stuff and just wanted to sit down for some stella, heffs and cider. brooklyn lager was very good too

Great beer selection with the option to order beers by the flight and make it a tasting. Fairly large 2-story bar so you may actually have a shot of finding a table. Definitely try Chimay if you've never had it. Wish the waitress hadn't spilled 5 beers on me, though, and left the broken glass by my feet. Food is overpriced but good with burgers around $13.

House of Brews is a great after bar. The downstairs bar is narrow, but the upstairs has plenty of room and the service is great so you won't have long to wait for a drink. If you're with a group it's fun to order the yards, and even more fun when someone decides to drink straight from the yard (funnel style). The menu is comprised of your standard bar fare - wings, nachos, potato skins, etc. All pretty good, especially for those late night orders.

The philosopher Jagger once wrote: "You can't always get what you want but if you try sometimes you just might find, you get what you need." So goes my experience with a beer-centric bar in New York City. To put it mildly, I am among the snobbiest of beer snobs you'll find. Well, save those who go really crazy and make significant inroads into the home brewing beer market. God love them, but those people are a special sort of crazy. (But if you want me to sample your beer, I'm more than willing . . .) I have to say, I was favorably impressed with House of Brews (oh ho ho, such a clever name!); I was skeptical going in. The beer menu looks better on paper than it does in practice, largely because for the number of available beers, one might expect more draught options. Still, I have to give credit to any operation east of the Rockies that can muster a fairly respectable beer list that features some decent draught options and for that reason (along with the decent though not remarkable wings), I'm willing to round up to four stars rather than rounding down to three. House of Brews features roughly 12 American draughts, perhaps 10 import draughts, and has a decent variety among them. A highlight of the draught menu, which was on temporary special on my visit, was the Hacker-Pshorr Weisse, which is among the best of Bavarian Weisse biers. As I say, it's hard to knock a place that does pick up some truly excellent brews and among those on their permanent list (albeit bottled) is the Hop Devil, which is also well worth sampling. The lower level is an appropriately dungeon-esque environment that features a long bar with several tables and televisions at the end. The Tuesday night clientele is about what you would expect: nothing too exciting, so there's plenty of space for the random drop in. As a bit of a wing connoisseur, I feel that it's worth mentioning the wings that, upon noticing them on the menu, I naturally ordered. I was somewhat favorably surprised, to be honest. Now, that shouldn't be mistaken by any readers of this review for a huge endorsement because I didn't haven't particularly high expectations; but they were very decent. Nicely crispy, which was the high point. However, the wings themselves were a bit on the small side and the sauce, while enjoyable, was a little on the pasty side for my tastes. I concede that in my mind, anytime a restaurant is going to attach a word like "Diablo" to their spicy wings, I'm expecting something from the later chapters of Dante rather than purgatory in my wings. The House of Brews wings are spicier than I might have expected from a mainstream menu offering, but not face-melting hot; that could be good or bad depending on your point of view. Overally, I had a good experience and if I could give it 3.5 stars I would. But the above average beer selection scores them a bump up, and the wings were decent enough that I didn't come away disappointed. Might I have wanted more? Certainly. I expected more beers on draught and I think that of those on draught, there could have been better. As for the wings? They could have been better as well. The frying was good, but the sauce could use some work and that can be tough when you're only working with one sauce for your whole customer base. However, in spite of the fact that I might not have gotten exactly what I wanted, I got what I needed.

Traditional bar food with a couple twists like whiskey gravy, bison burgers, and butternut squash toppings. Medium to thick cut fries were good. Not a huge selection of drafts, but several local ones. This was a random find but I'm happy I stopped here.

This place is located across the street to the Ippudo Westside location. We came here on a monday night while waiting to be seated. What we got: On monday during happy hour, we decided to get the 2 for 1 blue moon offer. Tasted like blue moon, and our server was very nice and attentive. No complaints here!

Fantastic beer list, and the beer and bacon Mac and cheese is to die for. Throw in the balsamic mozz sticks with the pesto dip and we may come back after the show

Great spot to grab some drinks! Was there with 2 friends for several beers. The place is a bit small, but we were able to grab a place at the bar. They had a great selection of beers on tap and in bottles. I love trying seasonals and there were multiple ones to try. We also split the nachos with chicken and the calamari- buffalo style. Both were good portions and tasted great! I'm totally a calamari snob and that spicy plate really hit the spot. The bartender was friendly and attentive as well. I'd definitely go back next time I'm in the area!

This place is the true dive bar you could easily walk by. Yet at the same time. Its clean, great atmoshphere, laid back. The food is unreal. Do not pass this place up ! Cheers !

This place is a very well run sports bar. It looks small from the outside but it is quite late inside. There are two floor with a back room for private parties. If you love NFL sports come here for some great drink and food specials and enjoy the game on many flat screen tvs. They have about 20 beers on tap with a great selection of bottle and can beers. They have a beer menu that this the beers by types...now that's the way you should do it. They also have a few wines and can make any cocktail of you desire. The food is the best bar food you can find at a sports bar. The staff in my many visits have always been friendly and quick. I recommend the buffalo wings and nachos. Check this place out.

Came in here to get away from the crazy crowds near Times Square. The bar is thin but nice. We were seated at a tiny table in the back (I'm way too big for Manhattan I think). They have a Tuesday 2 for 1 special on pints of Stella which was pretty solid. 7 bucks for 2 pints is a very good deal. Grabbed the Hummus appetizer which wasn't bad either but maybe a tiny bit overpriced at 10 bucks. Not bad really though considering the price of beer. The service was solid considering how rammed it was. The waitress with the Puerto Rican and Swedish flag tattoo is great. Overall a solid, semi generic, bar.

Standard American fare with extensive beer selection. Nice hole in the wall if you're near Times Square. Very festive holiday decorations.

Came in here for a couple of drinks before dinner. There was no room at the downstairs bar so the hostess suggested we go to the upstairs bar. I was one of three people at the bar, a perfect time for a bartender to chat up patrons and make loyal customers, instead she was in the corner talking to the other servers and eating! Sorry I don't want a bartender eating food behind the bar and not attending to customers.....oh wait now she is putting on makeup....great! The plus side is they have a great beer list!

We were so excited to watch the big 10 championship game here, but every tv , but 1 had a UFC fight on-staff was not friendly and fun at all, food was so so, will not be going back then next time we are in town.

  • Melibelle L.

Been here a few times during happy hour, well because they make great drinks here. They have a 2 for 1 Stella special and a bunch of other beer specials, as well as $5 margaritas and cosmos. I have a thing for bars where I have to walk down steps to get to (don't judge me), so I love the comfortable feel this bar has. The staff is very friendly and cool and they have a bunch of tvs playing all the games. Haven't tried the food yet but it looks and smells really good. Def a spot you should visit if you're in the area and want some good, inexpensive beer.

I stopped in here with a couple of friends after having dinner in the area. Having never been here, I was pleasantly surprised - this place is great! The House of Brews has a massive beer selection that is much fun choosing one as it is to drink one...well not exactly, but you get the point. Having trouble deciding, no worries, they have a sampler flight of beers. For $8.00 they serve you a paddle of (4) 3oz. glasses of any brew on tap. If you are really thirsty, they have 94oz. beer bongs - and it's a pretty good deal. The atmosphere here is really cool with plenty of seating either at the bar or around the room at tables. There are a lot of flat screen televisions all over, so it would be a great place to come and watch the game. The crowd seemed to be really friendly the night I was there with a heavy English and Irish presence. Staff were also very helpful with many suggestions. The food here looks insane too (check out the pics!). I didn't partake as I was already stuffed from dinner, but one of my friends ordered the nachos. For like $12.00, it could easily feed 3 people. The menu pushes towards popular English and Irish items like Shepard's Pie, bangers n mash, Dublin fish n chips, but also has many other sandwiches, burgers, wings and all that - and reasonably priced. I would definitely love to check this place out again I had a really good time here. They have another location on W 46th I'd like to try also. Well worth a visit if you're into microbrews. Crazy selection with some hard to find names; actually had Corne Du Diable - which I've only other seen in Montreal Oh sooo good!!

Reviewing for Midtown Lunch - not for the bar. I ordered the vegetarian penne off the lunch specials. Could have used more veggies and got a bit salty at the end. but the quality was pretty good for pub fare. As in, the vegetables didn't appear to be frozen (but probably were). Service was okay, the space is great for happy hours, and the beer list is extensive. Food was okay.

Good place to come by for drinks to watch a game, though more favorable of a spot to both drink and eat compared to other sports bars. Upstairs boasts a number of counter-top tables for small group seating for 4 to 8 and many of these have back booths on one side against the wall. Monday = 2 for 1 Blue Moon Tuesday = 2 for 1 Stella Artois Wednesday = 2 for 1 Yuengling Lager Thursday = $5 select appetizers from 5pm-1am Sat & Sun = $10 unlimited Mimosas -or- Bloody Marys Sunday = 2 for 1 Harpoon Drafts The menu has typical American-style pub food--chicken tenders, nachos, etc.--but also a handful of more traditional pub items such as fish and chips, shepherd's pie, and bangers and mash. The one offering of bangers and mash I've had was excellent--plump, juicy sausage with extremely snappy casing and well-made mash.

Stopped in here with friends to pre-game before a concert at Roseland, which turned out to be a bust, so we ended up back here anyway. It's a great bar. Very casual and relaxed. PLENTY of beers to choose from. I'm can be picky if I haven't had it or can't pronounce it so I stuck with Yuengling but I really enjoyed myself. The nachos and loaded cheese fries were good. Nothing special, but they hit the spot.

Your standard mid town watering hole. The food menu leaves a lot to be desired. The plus is there's a lot of space with two full floors of tables and a bar. They do have decent daily specials - like 2:1 Yeunglings.

  • Amanda W.

This is a place you'd come for drinks, not for food. It was very crowded, but that's to be expected on a Friday night. However, we were cramped into our table while trying to eat, so that was a tad annoying. The beer was excellent though, I tried the beer sampler and it did not disappoint. The food was not the best. I ordered the steak and it was very tough and filled with fat. I expect a decent steak if I'm paying close to $30. The staff was also quite good, but not enough to make up for the food. I might go back, but only for the beer.

This is a pretty standard bar/restaurant. We ordered some chicken tenders and cheese fries, which were pretty good. The beers are pretty reasonably priced too, especially this section of New York. If you're looking for a place to drink that isn't too through-the-roof expensive with some yummy munchies on the side, this is a good place to go.

This bar is the ultimate for all types of beers not to mention the tasty vittles they offer! Bring your friends and your appetite. A must for those wanting to experience the various brews offered. Well? What are you waiting for? Go!

We went here for drinks/dinner when visiting NYC. It was a short walk from Central Park, where we were staying and had the perfect atmosphere for what we wanted... Good beer/good service/casual/not too crowded. We had a few different beers from our server recommendations which were all delicious. The nachos were delicious as an appetizer. We ended up splitting the cobb wrap which was good- just a little dry. Overall great place if you are looking for laid back casual bar/pub with good beer and bar food...

Typical sports bar: very crowded, very noisy. The waitress was nice, good selection of drinks. I had the Brews Burger & fries which was good. Prices are decent by NYC standards. I came here because friends insisted coming here but due to crowd & noise I would never come here otherwise.

About as good as New York bar's can get! Atmosphere by the bucket loads, great beer selection. Very friendly and knowledgable bars staff and waitresses. If your staying near 8th and 51st you must give this place a shot. Food was fantastic, well priced for this area. Very clean. Highly recommend for visitors new to New York.

A nice version of a dive bar in the area. I wanted to really like this place. I think I do. The bartender was nice, friendly. It felt more of like a friend serving you. They had 3 beer specials on the Sunday I went, $4 Brooklyn Lager was the one I got. They have $5 specials for all NFL games, nachos, wings, and meatball sliders. We got the wings - 7 pieces, kind of tasty. Weren't the best wings, but $5 isn't such a bad price. What was not a good price was the chicken BLT. That thing sucked. 2 pieces of small toast, 1 tomato slice, some lettuce, dry chicken breast, and 2 or 3 slices of bacon. It came with french fries (which were really really good). But for $13? That is a serious problem. It's worth closer to the $6 you'd pay at Wendys. I must say that I do like the venue. There weren't many people there at 830 Sunday night. I think I'd go back because of how close it is, but it isn't a great indicator of my feelings of the place. Maybe other dishes would be better/larger for the price.

Loved this place. Excellent service, delicious beer (wish the draft selection was bigger), and awesome appetizers. Corn dog lollipops and pulled pork eggrolls were so good. The pumpkin ale was amazing. Will come back.

I've been to this place a couple of times either for lunch during work, or after work at a function. I really do like this place! The selection of beers is really vast, and the prices are also reasonable as well. House of Brews also has a $10 burger/beer lunch special which is a great find in this neighborhood. Typical food fare, but nothing really to complain about at all. I can definitely say that I will be coming back in the future for a work related function, but probably for no other reason. Place is no frills but it definitely is conducive to a good time, and has multiple TVs to keep you up with sports.

This is the by far the best bar I've been to in NYC. Why? I ARMED WRESTLED A KNIGHT, THAT'S WHY. We were lucky enough to drop in when Knights of Mayhem was promoting its season premiere. That meant, free drinks, photos, and medieval arm wrestling. I can't say I've had a drinking experience quite like it. Ever. As for the normal operating procedure, House of Brews is covered in TVs, which I appreciate. Also, you can order 80 oz beer towers. Not only that, but if you get 5, the 6th one is free. When your group is 10+ people, this works out quite nicely. I look forward to when I cross blades again at the House of Brews.

  • Seana B.

I wish I could love House of Brews. My coworkers go there religiously every Thursday night, and I join occasionally, after enough time has elapsed that I have forgotten how disappointed I was in my last trip. Ok, it's the House of Brews, and truthfully it is set up to fail the moment I walk in the door, as I am not a beer-drinker. The wine is mediocre and the martinis are an embarrassment, but I would forgive those small flaws if the food were even marginally better. It's not. For example, the nachos have very little in the way of cheese or topping, and they are almost unbearably overloaded in black olives. The fries are OK but not amazing, and the quesadilla is greasy and limp, with little to recommend it. On the plus side, service is friendly and prompt, and I like the vibe and the music, which is why I am going with three stars, despite the other shortcomings.

  • Bill W.

The daily drink specials are nice. The burgers are great. The french fries are great. But here's the thing about this place that makes it special... The service. All of the staff was pleasant, but our bartender Ali was the absolute best! If there's one thing you're not guaranteed to find in New York City it's a bartender who truly kicks ass. Go to the House of Brews, enjoy their wide selection of beers, and if you're lucky, a young lady named Ali will be serving you. She's the best. You won't regret it.

My favorite place to watch day time soccer games! There are two floors and cozy lounge corner where you can hung out with your group of friends. And yes, their burgers are awesome!!!!

We happened to stumble here on a cold rainy evening & was amazed at the selection of beers, great food & awesome ambience. Loud music and great company made it all worth the bucks. Sure to visit again soon!!!!

My friends and I usually come here during the baseball season to watch the games because there are so many TVs and they show whatever they got, if you ask. I'm a Met fan, but they usually show the Yankee games here. I usually ask the waitress though to switch to the Mets game, she'll put it on the TV closest to me so it doesn't cause a ruckus. They're so nice. The food is pretty good. I love the onion rings and the nachos. And the fries... very yummy. And the drunken burger has bacon, and anything with bacon is always good! But even without the bacon, it is quite tasty, though I don't really taste the beer is was 'marinated' in. For drinks, there is so much to choose from. I usually just pick one randomly and especially one I haven't had yet. They're all very good beers, very different in their own special way. It's great! I should do the sampler though- it'd be faster (and cheaper) to try all of them.

My fiance, a friend from out of town and her boyfriend and I went here last Sunday during the Oscars. Downstairs the bar was relatively full and had music playing, it looked like a nice crowd to have a drink, even though it was a Sunday night it looked like a typical after work type crowd. We chose to go upstairs because we planned to have dinner there. Upstairs was very empty, hardly any customers at all. This appealed to us because we wanted a quiet dinner where we could talk and catch-up. Our waitress was very nice and helpful. We ordered flights of beer to sample. They were out of a couple of the beers on the menu but our waitress was able to recommend other beers to try. They had some good local beers on the menu as well. I am a fan of the Brooklyn Brewery Beers and they had a selection of their beer. I ordered a burger and fries. It was cooked the way I asked. I tried my friend's Shepard's pie which was very yummy. All and all a great place to have a low key dinner and drinks with friends. I will definitely return.

best beer selection of any bar i've been to in the city...and that is about it.

    (3)
  • Scott S.

Large beer selection available both on draft and bottles. Not quite the selection of say Ginger Man or Blind Tiger, but still a solid variety of international beers and domestic microbrews. However all of their brews are at least a buck more than the average cost at any other pub in Manhattan. (a bottle of Tsingtao for $7!?!?!).

I wandered around the area of my hotel looking for a quick dinner, and since I saw a sign for Shiner lit up in the window, I decided to stop in. It was only me, and I was seated in a very awkward lounge area, with low benches and low tables that were more like coffee tables. Felt like I was sitting at a kids' table. I like that both drink and food menus were already at the table, but alas, as extensive as the beer list was, no Shiner was to be found. Settled on Magners, which was still a nice find. After I was seated, it took at least 15 minutes to get anyone to take my drink order. By the time the waitress came, I ordered my food too, which took over 20 minutes to come out. I'm no food service expert, but I think that's longer than normal. For dinner I ordered the BBQ Mac and cheese. It was okay. Definitely not cheesy enough for what the dish is called, so it was more like a creamy noodle dish with pork in it. Good flavors, but for $16, I would not buy again. In all, it was just an average bar experience. It's definitely not spectacular enough to have me go back ever. If you're looking for a nice sit down dinner, there are other more promising looking establishments within a block of this place.

Big props to the waitress who took care of a birthday party of ~25 people yesterday. She was friendly and attentive. Still lovin' the beer list. Their mixed drinks could be a little bit stronger, however, in my opinion.

Friendly staff, but for a place called House of Brews, the beer menu is pretty disappointing. Stella and Yuengling aren't exactly unique and exciting in the city. There were a few more interesting seasonal choices, but don't go expecting to discover many new brews. Its a good happy hour bar, but not the hop adventure the name would lead you to believe.

(+) "flight" of beers is available, sample several different beers of your choice (+) beer selection is pretty good (-) place itself is just ok...sorta old and small, not many people here (-) crowd is meh

It's a shame I have to write this review since I do really like this place. I got a burger there last night with a side salad for happy hour, and unfortunately I got horrible food poisoning a couple hours later. It was probably a random, unusual occurrence and I still think this place is a great happy hour spot with decent tasting food.

One of the very few sports bars that plays UFC. That, in and of itself, makes it worth going to. The food is your ordinary bar food, pretty decent. Garlic Parm Wings? Yes please. Buffalo Wings? A good variety of wings can be had here... In addition to a large serving of nachos. What I did NOT like, however, was that they put broken chips on the bottom under the toppings. Who does that? I'm paying for this, give me real chips for my nachos. 3.5-- if not for the nachos, it could be a 4.

What's in a name? The reason I ask is because even though you know this place most likely has a nice beer list without having to walk through the door, couldn't they come up with a better name? No? Ok. It really isn't a big deal. I'm just saying. Today was my day in NY on my visit back to the east coast. I haven't been able to get in the last few times I've been back to this part of the country so I wanted to make a plan to come in this day to see some folks. Was meeting up with a friend for lunch and after walking into a few places with long lines, we came across this one and figured we might give it a shot. I like beer and I like burgers and this place had both. Got a seat towards the back and took a look at the rather large menu. They have a daily special that I went with. Burger and a beer for $10. Sold. They give you a choice of 3 draft beers you can choose from and I went with Chelsea Brewing Company Checker Cab Blonde Ale. It was a bit lighter (pretty much a Kolsh) than the beer I usually drink, but it was the best of the 3 they offered, or at least I figured it would be the best. The burger was your standard burger with lettuce, tomatoes and onions along with waffle fries. Cooked medium like I asked, it was fine. Just fine. We also had nachos which for some reason didn't come with beans or I don't believe meat for that matter. Both could be added for an extra cost which seemed a bit odd, but this is NYC. Overall a good find. Very big beer selection, but we didn't dive in on this trip. That is probably the main reason to come here. The food is fine. Just fine. Take that how you want to.

A decent little gem that I ran into randomly, needing a drink. The tap list is quite decent, along with the bottle selection. It was a pleasant surprise as it's a big bar with a good amount of space.

I like the HOB. Our Drupal meetup group meets here once a month and they always set aside a room for us to hang out and geek out. The servie is always pretty good, and they always have some sort of good deal on drafts going on. On Wednesday nights they have 2 for 1 yeunglings. Not too shabby.

    (4)
  • Christina C.

This is just your normal pub.. nothing special. They have decent beer specials, but it's not a place you want to make plans to go to. If you're in the neighborhood and are bored, it's a good place to grab a quick drink and wings. The wings were good, but also nothing amazing. I don't think wings are something you can really mess up!

A spacious, two story joint with $5 margaritas (in a tiny glass, however) and cosmos for hh, and 2 for 1 beers. I tried their Oktoberfest pizza and it was standard-like any other diner. The server was friendly to our group of ~12, and came by pretty often to check on us. We had an entire area reserved for us, with several tables and little cushioned squares to sit on.

Came here for an unofficial holiday party for work. Drinks were cheap, the food was standard bar food, and the music was what is on the radio. Nothing really differentiates this place from any of the other bars in NYC. Actually, I stand corrected. They have a wide variety of beers from all over the world but I am not really a fan of the brewski so perhaps this place just wasn't for me. If you love beer, you would likely enjoy this place.

  • Alice L.

When we walked in, it didn't look like much. But upon being seated, I glanced at the drink menu ~ Now THIS was a House of Brews! An entire menu of beer ranging from light and fruity to heavy and hoppy. A beer for everyone's palates. Prices are Great Staff is Friendly and Helpful Cute Comfy Booths Huge Beer Selection (and Full bar) What else could one ask for?!? * I love the $8 4-Draft beer sampler!

Been here twice. Had the bangers and mash on last visit. They were nothing special. Not bad, but not great. Decent beer selection. Wish more were on tap (as opposed to bottles). Service was just fine. Really not much more to say. If you are looking for a good place with decent grub, an above average selection of beers, and a moderate price range (for the area), this will suffice. There are better brew pubs, but there are also worse. Probably a 3.5 star place, but Yelp doesn't allow the 1/2 star. :(

  • Michelle S.

Awesome atmosphere. Great music. Service is on point. When u have a question or need something they are right there. Beer list isn't too big but a few good beer on menu. Food is amazing and mixed drinks are nice and strong :)

Great beer selection, a little pricey but worth it for something other than the usual pub swill! Decent food, and the rotating specials menu always has creative/delicious dishes. Also great beer/burger special for $10 during the day and some other happy hour drink specials. Great bartenders, fun staff. It's a nice place to come when you're looking for a pub feel with more than your average beer fare. Oh, and: The guys who wrote the pissed off UFC fight reservations reviews are missing a specific detail. Every person who calls and makes a reservation (which I have many times) is told "Your reservation isn't confirmed until you talk to a manager." If they didn't talk to a manager....well, it's kinda their fault, right? I'm sure it sucked, but I don't think they needed to call the hostess a bimbo. What does that prove?

We come to the city a couple times a year on excursion buses and they usually pick us up within a few blocks of 51st and 8th, which makes the H.O.B. my favorite place to go for a couple pints from their excellent selection of brewskis and a plate of wings or nachos or a sammich prior to heading home. Last night it was packed downstairs due to a blizzard and the show Wicked had let out. Our server, Julia, was very friendly and was quick with our first drink and follow ups. We had the nachos and enjoyed the Bronx Pale Ale. I have brought friends here over the years and they all enjoyed it.

Such cute bartenders! When I went, there were 2 Scottish guys at the bar, cute accents and cute looking. They were friendly too, and even took shots with some of the customers! OK back the point, the beer. There is a wide selection of beers classified y country. I am not a big beer drinker, I like girly drinks, but I even found a beer here that I found not bad. I had the Purple Haze which tasted like raspberry and it was good. The more you drink, the easier it goes down.

Ordered through grubhub. Pleased with the quick delivery and packaging. However food was mediocre. Wings were not meaty and should have slide off the bone more easily. BBQ sauce was unexceptional.

Im a mac and cheese connosoeur. Ive spent a lot of time looking for amazing baked mac n cheese in the neighborhood. House of Brews enticed me on Seamless because they had a lot of varieties which made me think oh they must do Mac n Cheese well. I was wrong. I haven't tried anything else but the mac n cheese is beyond sub par.

The place seems like a great place for beer. They had a wide assortment and the staff were nice. My friend and I did not have beer but their other cocktails and they weren't great. I like beer but my friend doesn't so I opted for the cocktails. A bartender even started to play songs in our favor! In short: go for the beer.

Just like trying to write this review this place it annoying. Nothing special about the beers and the burger was grossly overcooked and since I had limited time and I hate to send food back I just wanted it done right the 1st time. Anyway I probably won't be returning although the service was fine nothing special. Location 46th St.

good selection of beers on tap and in bottles - Weihenstephaner is here, which makes me happy. a bit costly, but not out of place in this sector of the concrete jungle. the seats are way comfortable. not much more to say. I went here a few times in my pre-Yelp days, but hadn't been back until the other night when my really drunk friend needed one more beer. being an enabler, I said sure.

Running a sports bar is not always easy. However, House of Brews makes it look impossible. I've never liked this place, but when watching UFC I don't care if they serve piss and cow dung. Just get me a chair and play it on a display bigger than 40" and I'm happy. I'm easy that way. I think that also goes for my 7 buddies who came with me last night to House of Brews to watch the fight after we booked a reservation for 8. Thanks, House of Brews, for _almost_ ruining the nights of 8 people who made a reservation at your place, only to be turned away. Luckily we walked over to Playwright, which was PACKED and still managed to accommodate us. As far as the food at House of Brews goes, it's terrible. I've never been to prison, but if their cafeteria food is worse, I'd be surprised. I'm sure the beer is fine, though I don't drink it. So if you fail on delivering sports, and you fail on food, I'm afraid that for me, that puts you in the dumpster of sports bars. Here is a quick rundown of my experience at House of Brews. I call in at 2:20 PM to make a reservation for that evening at 9:45 PM for 8 people to watch the UFC fight. I am told that the reservation is confirmed. I then offer to leave my credit card, and be pre-charged for any amount, just because I can't bear the burden of even the remote possibility of letting down my friends. (Note to the manager of House of Brews: This is called "integrity", something you clearly lack). No mention that the reservation needed to be confirmed was made. As far as anyone who speaks English and has an IQ over 80 would be concerned, that *was* the confirmation. When we all got there at 9:45 PM, we were told that our reservation was gone because I was apparently called back twice, and didn't pick up. Meanwhile, I showed them my cell, and there were no missed calls. Among the various excuses and lies that were made were "We don't take reservations after for 8:30 PM". Meanwhile, there was a large table where we'd reserved a table with a "reserved" sign on it.. Note to the manager: if you are going to lie, at least try to fabricate something credible. If you want to give the table to one of your buddies after you've committed it to a customer, have the decency to offer something, or at least let them know. I will end by saying this: of the 8 of us, only 1 of us wanted House of Brews. Every other one of us prefers Playwright on 49th. But the 1 guy that likes HOB just got married last week, and we tried to make him happy. Instead, it almost cost us the night. Ultimately, I'm actually happy that House of Brews sucks so bad, because I got to eat real food, watch a game in a place that rocks, and will never have to explain to that friend why we go to Playwright over House of Brews.

House of Brews is a so-so beer bar. A bit touristy due to its Theater District proximity and not quite sure of its identity, so it draws non-hoppy crowds. Still, a very nice beer selection (they had Firestone Walker bottles!) and what looks like a legitimate food menu. Definitely stop by if you're jonesing for a good beer after a show.

If you happen to find yourself in this desolated part of Manhattan, you could do a lot worse than the House of Brews. In fact, as far as brews are concerned, this large (two floors) beer place is impressive: about 80 different beers, of which 12 on tap. Including some personal favorites like Palm, Blue Moon, Hoegaarden, Weihenstephaner Hefe Weiss, Magic Hat N. 9, and Duvel Green. I opted for a Chelsea Hop Angel IPA (7% ABV): a nice rich amber color, little head, very hoppy flavor with a somewhat citrusy aftertaste. Overall I found beers oddly priced: while Palm on tap was a very reasonable $6, and $7 for a Hop Angel, other beers are $1-2 more expensive than at your average bar. Moreover, their beer menu on line does not reflect the actual prices. Odd. With lots of large flatscreen TVs all over, this is a good place to catch a game while sipping a tasty brew. I also liked the fact that there were coat hooks by the bar (a little detail that is never appreciated enough), and also airline seat-size mini-TV screens by the bar, for your personal use. Very civilized.

Great decor. The place has a homey vibe to it. The food was decent. Can't really fuck up nachos. And the beer selection was good. Too many choices can sometimes be a bad thing. I had trouble deciding what I wanted to drink. Just stuck to my old standards. Price was out of this world. My friends and I went during happy hour. 2 for 1 blue moons. We all ate appetizers for dinner and had about 3 beers each. There was only 3 of us and our bill came up to 100 bones. Only 2 of us got pricey beers for one round. Won't be coming here again. I can get better food and cheap beer if I just go down the block to 9th. Only ducked into this place cause it was snowing.

Great place if you're in the neighborhood. I stay at a hotel nearby so I've been here a couple times. Good crowd too, not spillover from Times Sq. Cons: - for being a sports bar I'm surprised by the number of times I've had to request that a game (heck, any game) be shown on the TV instead of music videos. - food is average. Pros: - very comfortable place. Even when it's crowded it usually doesn't take too long to find a seat. - really good selection of beers. - fantastic staff. I'm no regular here but the waitresses and bartenders have remembered me and provided top notch service. Extremely friendly.

Wonderful selection. They have a draft sampler. You can order 4 mini mugs for $10 because there are so many beers to choose from. Atmosphere is pretty good. This place has a little bit of a dungeony feel to it, which I felt really complemented all the beers. Great for a first date or for a group of friends.

This place is just flat out awesome. I went over the weekend to catch the USA - Ghana World Cup match, and I could not have been happier. (except of course for the result of the game - damn you Ghana!) Flat screen TVs showing the game in HD were plentiful, and the atmosphere was lively but not overly crowded. The wait staff was friendly and super helpful navigating their gigantic selection of hops-based beverages. The food was simply superb, especially the jalapeno poppers. The prices were also pretty decent for a midtown bar. They had a special while I was there for a $20 bucket of four random premium beers, which turned out to be an awesome choice. My sampling included an excellent German Doppelbock that'd normally cost at least $10-12 on its own. It's also worth mentioning that they have all three types of Chimay on friggin' tap. Four stars alone for that!

Stopped in here before a Broadway show. We asked the hostess to seat us near an electrical outlet, as we had been exploring the city and the phones were nearly dead. She took us upstairs to a very comfy and cozy loft, and not only did we have an outlet but we had a nice window view of the street. The table and seats were lower to the ground than I expected but didn't deter from the overall experience. The food was delicious, typical bar food (I ordered a burger, fries and a beer) but lots of great choices in salad and appetizers too. Waitress was very on top of our drinks and orders. Very friendly staff and decently priced.

Ahh, House of Brews. The Cons: - Beer, while varied with a fun seasonal menu, is expensive. - Food, while not great, is also expensive. The Pros: - Very friendly staff, never had a negative experience. - TVs...so many TVs... If you like sports (me! me!), you'll go in and be like one of those green plush dolls from Toy Story. Oooooooooooh. - UFC PPVs. No cover. (Shhhh. Don't. Tell. Anyone.) The beer is good, and I figure what I spend on the booze I save on not paying a $20 cover for my UFC. And I should be cooking more for myself at home anyway :P 4 stars!

Awesome selection of beers! Typical Bar food. My husband's Mac and Cheese w/ buffalo chicken was good. The chicken on my salad was over cooked. The Chili was good! As far as service, the waitress started off great but then forgot about us. We had to ask for our check.

Stopped in for a quick brew-dog after a nice dinner in the area. I was impressed by their beer list, and rightfully so with a name like "House of Brews". And plenty of wine choices to boot, which is not usual for bars. Place was not too crowded and we had comfortable seats near a beautiful fish tank (well maintained fish tanks = instant bonus points with me). Plenty of TVs for sports fans. Staff were all friendly and quick. Totally worth a stop in for a drink!!!

Good atmosphere but poor service and salty food. waitress didn't care that we only ate one bite of the buffalo chicken dip but gladly gave us the bill and then flirted with the manager. Many other places in the area with better good and better service. New York beer co same company but way better. Nutella pizza I am on my way there now.

This is my type of pub. They keep a rotating draft and bottle list (separate from their regulars). I had an IPA from a NYC brewery (can't remember which, but it was good), and one of my favorites, Founders Breakfast Stout. This may not have the most extensive list of beers, but the ratio of good beers to not so good beers is much higher than the average bar in NY. This is a place where you can hang out with a small group of friends and catch up over beer, or set out to solve the world's problems. It's a nice cozy place with great beers.

House of Brews is one of those places that combines all the best a bar has to offer -- decent service, great variety in food and beer, and fun music. The music is one of the oddities in this well-decorated establishment, in that it goes up and down in volume every so often to "wake the patrons up" as the bartender explained to me. They have an impressive selection of bar food as is their beers on tap (ranging from fruity to micro brewed ales). They used to have tiny TVs and a projection downstairs but they've since upgraded to much larger flat screen panels. The few minor glitches in this gem of a bar become more evident when the crowds come rushing in, exposing how small the place can be and how stuffy it can quickly become. Hence the second floor is the saving grace for this place as its more spacious, better seating, and better visibility for the big games on multiple screens. There is better seating for crowds, cool beer taps, and a relaxed ambiance with more attentive service.

Got out of the rain to have a bite and a cocktail! We had to visit our favorite bartender in Hells Kitchen- Damien "Raffo". The crowd is always great here and you can see the game from every seat in the house. They make delicious wings and have great brews on tap, not to mention their list (I mean, it IS called house of BREWS). It doesn't get much better than this :)

    (5)
  • Louise P.

They have a lot of good beers on tap. The service was pretty fast considering how crowded it was after work on a Tuesday. I wish the bar was a little wider because it was impossible to stand for a second without having to move for someone walking through. Plus there is only one stall in the ladies room which meant we always had to wait. No serious complaints though, and I love anybody with Capt. Lawrence pumpkin on tap :)

I actually went to this place two times in one weekend. I like it. Good beer menu, although I do not drink beer, but my husband seemed satisfied with the options. They make a killer dirty martini The atmosphere is nice, comfy TVs everywhere, which is nice Hot waitresses Hot Bartenders You can't go wrong with any of that.

Decent beer selection. When we were there, all of the beers we requested were out. We ordered one of the large tubes that was sitting on the table. I guess it is our fault for not specifying, but we assumed that there would be some benefit for ordering a larger quantity of beer (like saving some $ on the overall cost), but when it all worked out, they charge you per pint to fill that thing. And it wasn't cheap. Somehow our tab came out to $250 after just a couple of hours. And be careful - they had a hold on my friends debit card for about 2 weeks after their first visit there.

I came here with my boyfriend and his parents while in NY for the day. It was the only place around that was open for lunch at 11:30 (which means my Yelp app lied to me about Tom and Toon's hours) so we went in. The food was pretty good, nothing great but definitely not a disappointment and our server was friendly enough. The problem came when we tried to pay. First they said one card wasn't going through, probably because of an issue with the bank (?) so we tried another. Then they realized it was their machine. They were trying to reboot it so it would work but after a while it had been almost 20 minutes and we hadn't seen our server so my boyfriend's mom just said she would go to the ATM to get cash when we finally saw the server again. The manager then came to look at the machine, didn't say a word to us of apology even though he walked right by us - and by the way the place was almost entirely empty. When my bf's mom returns, she asks, since no one offered like I would assume they would, for a discount. The server then, only after she asked, comped one of our meals, which was nice. But in the end the lack of customer service, especially from management who still never said a word to us, has to make this 2 stars

Awesome beer selection - within walking distance of our Time Square hotel - UPSTAIRS bar is where we sat and the bartender was attentive, very friendly and let us sample a few of the beers we were unfamiliar with. Thank you! A+

I'm a beer snob, so the name piqued my interest. And really, if you're going for beer, it's not too shabby. There was a decent - not great - selection of craft brews that were priced accordingly with midtown Manhattan. Good pour, too. Our waitress was friendly and prompt, and very happily gave me a sample of one I wanted to try (wish she'd have been honest with me up front about how bad it was - she agreed with me that it was terrible after I tasted it. But hey, I understand). However, we stopped in for lunch, and while the beer was a nice precursor, it was the food that makes me give HOB only two stars. I realize it's midtown Manhattan, but the prices for sandwiches were a few dollars more than they should have been. When you get the food, and see how paltry it is in both quantity and taste, you'll think it's several more dollars too much. Taste was just average on my wife's wrap, and my Reuben (which sounded delicious on the menu) was a greasy, fatty but thin slice of corned beef on an overly-toasted bun. The fries came out lukewarm, greasy, and overly salted, so I imagine they'd been getting acquainted with the plate long before the rest of the food. The saving grace was their brunch. My daughter got French toast, which turned out to be a good-sized portion that actually tasted pretty good. In fact, my wife abandoned her wrap for the French toast leftovers. Just be careful when ordering - the sides (like the four small sausage links) turn out to be pricey extras that you're surprised with when you get the bill. The place is probably great for neighborhood bar food and beers, but skip it for anything more than that. Basically, for our $75 lunch, we ended up with two beers, two terrible sandwiches, and a plate of decent French toast. All-in-all, not a great experience for the money, and not one that we'll revisit again.

I know the Theatre District is expensive, but $8 for a local beer, like Brooklyn Brewery, is RIDICULOUS. While they have a large selection of craft beers (drafts and bottles) to choose from, it is expensive. Obviously when dealing with craft beers, the higher the alcohol content, the higher the price. However, the prices here were marked up by a couple of dollars and was not worth it, in my opinion. The food menu was large and was all over the place. They didn't seem to have a specialty, and the food the people in my group had was mediocre at best. It got packed, so I guess the high beer prices wasn't as much of an issue for others as it was for me, or maybe they were just drinking Bud Light, which was still $6 a pint. Unless you are stranded in the area with a wad of cash and you are dying for a Sixpoint Mad Scientist 6, I would suggest going elsewhere.

Bit confusing since there are 2 of them one at 51st and one at 46th. The place is downstairs, good amount of space, needs more stools, and a bit crowded at times but it fits the "lets meet up at ___ and then we can figure out where we wanna go" bill since its small enough u can walk in and meet up but not somewhere u are forced to wait around for a long time.

What a surprising find! Who knew a bar with an exceptional selection of beers including many Belgians could be found in midtown? I happily drank Palm on tap for a mere $6 a glass which is probably half of what I would pay at Vol de Nuit. The beer selections are pretty varied in general covering many countries in the world, but do not disappoint by short changing domestic, craft beer selections. A notable highlight was espying the much coveted Samuel Adams Utopia beer (the strongest commercial beer in the world) on the menu at $450.00 a bottle. Plenty of Dogfish Heads and even Abita were on the menu. Yeah, I was happy. Aside from the beer selection, the place works pretty well as a sports bar too. Large flat panel TVs were plentiful as well as small, individual, iPad-sized TVs that allow for personal tuning. Further, there are bars on two levels and even another location nearby. I didn't make much of a go of this place on my visit, but I will be sure to be back.

Good hang out. You need to have a taste for international beers to appreciate this place. The food is good, not great. Great place for a Soccer match or ESPN 2 type sports. Friendly staff.

Great food, attentive service and a delicious wide selection of brews! Excellent place for lunch or dinner or for a casual hang out The chef is amazing and exceeds expectations for a bar. Try the Shrimp or buffalo Mac 'n cheese, Parmesan garlic wings are the best I've ever had, and buffalo calamari is exquisite to name a few.

In a neighborhood relatively desolate of good bars, this place really comes through in a pinch. Great beer selection, casual environment with 2 floors and the place has both bar and table seating. Great for after work drinks or drinks with a group. Also, growlers.

I've spent years working in Hell's Kitchen and this is a place that I always revisit. Great beer specials (2 4 1 Yuenglings on Wednesdays and Monday $10 Blue Moon pitchers, my faves) and really delicious food - some of the best bar food I've had, hands down. The happy hour $5 margaritas are generally always good, though different depending on what bartender makes them. Excellent wings/buffalo sauce and nachos!

80 beers from over thirty countries and many U.S. Microbreweries. 'Nuff said. Okay, that's not enough said? I came here for a birthday party and while our server was a bit slammed with orders she did a good job and even relented and let us go on individual tabs - a godsend because we could never have managed a single tab with 40 people streaming in and out through the course of the night. Didn't get to check out much of the food, but they had a decent menu and the burgers... wow... I'd have to give them 5 stars just by how good they looked.

Too bad yelp didn't offer negative stars because this place would have received the lowest score possible. For now it is just a 1 star Eek! Methinks not. It is generic and not the best place to have beers in town. I normally do not go out in this part of town. Since we were in the area we decided to stop in for a drink. Disappointing and has a misleading name. With a name like House of Brews you would think they would have a world class selection of beers. There list does not stand out at all. The worst part is that the staff is amazingly rude! Yep RUDE in ALL CAPS. I was standing there it was loud then got bowled over by a waitress. I said excuse me works. She replied saying that she did say excuse me. Usually excuse me works when someone can hear you or before the customer says something. I've been to plenty of loud places that are crowded, and haven't been bowled over by the staff. Most places would tap you on the shoulder before trying to knock you down. RUDE!! AVOID THIS PLACE!!

Ordered delivery. Got buffalo chicken mac and cheese and sweet potato fries. The portions were on the bigger side. The mac and cheese itself was solid but there was barely any buffalo chicken. Pretty disappointing. Plus, they didn't put any buffalo sauce on the rest of the mac and cheese. It was basically their normal mac and cheese with a tiny portion of buffalo chicken on top. As for the sweet potato fries, they were soggy and rather flavorless.

I like beer. House of Brews has a lot of beer. Therefore I like House of Brews. I was really only in here for one drink, but it made a good impression and if I was ever midtown west again, I'd definitely stop by.

  • Chris S.

They dropped a star. The beer selection stinks for a place called "The House of Brews". It is misleading and meant to attract uninformed tourists. I went back recently thinking I'd give it another try. I was handed a laminated menu that looked like it was from IHOP. How can a place maintain a diversity of beers if it prints it's menu like a chain restaurant? Never again.

3.5 stars. Good place in Hell's Kitchen for a decent variety of international and domestic brews. Has two floors of seating so that's never a problem as there are always some available, even on Friday and Saturday nights. The food is your usual bar food so not much commentary there except that there is a wide variety of food, always a plus. Given its unassuming location and exterior, I was pleasantly surprised at the vast selection of beers on its menu. I especially loved the fact that they have several types of trappist ales (my faves and not easy to find in normal beer joints). The other plus is that they show all the Yankees games during the season!

The food was excellent. My daughter got the mac and cheese, one of the best I've ever had. The burgers were cooked to perfection. Huge selection of beers. Just the service was a little slow.

I would say 3.5 stars really, but since really only came for drinks I can't rate higher. After a long leisurely afternoon of wandering around Times Square in the rain, basically just killing time till our last Umphrey's show of the weekend (my third, some folks seventh) and of their east coast section of the tour we really just needed a place to sit down and relax. Charge up before the concert. We had spent all afternoon in the tourist traps and needed respite from the crowds. So we came upon the House of Brews, the downstairs had a decent number of patrons eating dinner, but upstairs we found the jackpot! A fairly empty, quiet room with a long rectangular bar table. High leather stools with backs and hooks for our raincoats. A lovely waitress put up with us and our shenanigans for the next three hours as we dried off, decompressed and drank our fill before heading over to Nokia Theater. It was great, there were amble tv's for game watching, but still quiet enough that we could all hear each other talk. Which is key when playing Harmen Killabrew and you can't repeat names. And the beer list was pretty impressive for a sports bar. Then again it is called The House of Brews! They had everything from small craft California breweries to PBR's. I'm pretty sure we all went or Yuenglings, taking advantage of every second we had to drink that sweet nectar that is so hard to find in New England! A solid bar that I would definitely patron again if forced to be in the TImes Square area again.

The name says it all: lots of beer to choose from. The bar tenders were fantastic, friendly, and attentive. I especially loved the beer sampler. For $10.00 you can sample a few ounces of 5 different beers.

Cute pub. Friendly staff. Delicious fish and chips. You get two large pieces of fish and it was cooked perfectly. I also had the draft beer flight and that was fun. Comfortable atmosphere. You can watch TV and just relax. Music can be a tad loud but you can still hear your conversation.

I am a huge fan of The House of Brews. After a summer day in Central Park, this is the place to go for a cold one. Good beer selection that changes regularly. You can sit outside, at the bar downstairs or the upstairs bar. It is extremely air conditioned. My favorite part of this place: every time I go (getting close to double digits) the waitresses and bartenders are super nice!

    (5)
  • Julie G.

Oh House of Brews, how I miss thee. I used to live 2 blocks from here. They have the best buffalo chicken wrap in all of midtown. Close contender is CopperSmith's. They have a pretty solid beer selection, but I'm more interested in an ice cold Magners myself. This location is larger and usually less crowded than the Restaurant Row location.

When my spice girl, Preeti B., says the Hot Wings are HOT. I immediately steer clear. As such, there will be no comment about their hot wings from moi. The Sesame Teriyaki Wings were too salty. But, the Smoky BBQ Wings were perfect; they hit the culinary spot. Now, these aren't the best bbq wings I've had. Seems they fry up their wings, then toss them in the sauce, as opposed to actually cooking (slow-smoking, simmering, baking, or otherwise) the wings. On the other hand, when you order your wings, you can direct them to split them half-half with the different sauces. They can even serve up your wings with the sauces on the side. As it stands, these were great wings to demolish a happy hour appetite, and to accompany a tower of beer. That's right my little alcoholic homies, they offer up their beers in the form of towers. My recommendation goes to the tower of Checkered Cab. Goes down really smooth; almost like a smoothie, almost. The space is preeti big given its location. There's a bar area on the first floor, a huge bar area on the second floor, and an outdoor seating area out front. Oh and tons of flat screens all over the place. Note to management: why isn't there a trashcan in the restroom? Tip: those xcelerator hand-drying machines are amazing. If your friend should accidentally knock your beer all over you (and your beloved Strand messenger bag :.(. the xcelerator will dry you up in no time.

I've been here twice. The first time I visited, it was to have some brews, some wings and watch the US play hockey against Canada in the last game of the Olympics. It was pretty empty upstairs when we got there so a table was easy to score. HOWEVER, when asking the waitress about the different beers, she was completely clueless. That was a disappointment. You'd think they would expect the staff, and not just the bartenders, to be well versed in the beer selection because...well...they are the House of Brews after all. So I just winged it and ordered beers that sounded tasty. Hell, trying new beers is when I'm game, but it would have been nice to at least be guided in a direction by the staff. Second visit was much better. Sat at the bar and actually had a much better discussion about beers to try with the bartender. This place serves flights of beer. Great to try if you aren't sure what you want. And it's only $7! Can't beat that. The food isn't bad. Go for the wings and the burgers if you're hungry. I will definitely be heading back here since it's only a few blocks from my apartment. Go with a bunch of friends and try the gigantic 96 oz beer test tube thingy that you can fill with any beer on tap. Fantastic!! (They also sell growlers for refill...love it!)

The only things I've had here is beer and burger during lunch time (shhh, don't tell my boss) so this is the focus and extent of my review. The deal is 10 bucks for beer and burger which is really a great value. The burger is very good quality. The beer is, well, beer -- so needless to say its good! Service is always very prompt and friendly at the bar. Adding a star for the outstanding value!

Went to this House of Brews on 51st Street [between 8th & 9th Ave] a few times. So far, I'd have to say that I like their Sundays' NFL Games Chicken Wings deal the best. For $.25 a wing [right in Hells Kitchen area] is an efing bargain, y'all. Although the super cheap chicken wings were what drew me into this pub, their main stars were and always will be their extensive selection of beers and more beers. The waitresses were also super friendly and very attentive during the few times I ventured into this bar. Of the 2 floors within the venue, I prefer the chillaxing ambience of the upstairs bar a bit more though. There are enough TVs spreading around the upstairs bar/dining area for peeps to enjoy watching/rooting for their favorite NFL teams. On a side note, if the waitresses were donning skimpier outfits, I would have given this bar a 4 in the rating. But for whatever it's worth, it's located less than 2 minutes walk from my humble abode, so I found myself going back here at least once or twice a month on their Sundays wings special deal. BTW, for the cheapos out there [myself included], they also have domestic craps like Bud Light for less than $3, if I can recall correctly.

If you need a good beer in the theater district then I would suggest here or Valhalla which is about 10 blocks north. Don't expect a huge draft selection, but they'll likely have something to please everyone's taste. As for food...eh at best. If I were rating this as a restaurant it would not be a 3.

This was a neat place to stop for some after-dinner drinks. Tried several of the beers and the "Flights of Beer" option was a good way to have small servings of 4 different beers. Did not eat here, but the food looked good!

I've stopped by the House of Brews on a couple occasions. Not a bad joint, two floors, one bar one top and one below, friendly staff and table service to boot. I came here once with a friend and the bartender gave us a beer sampling sponsored by a local brewery. They all tasted like shit. But hey, free drinks are good drinks in my book, so I'm not complaining. Unlike the other reviews, I haven't been here when it was overcrowded or there were climate control issues. And while I wouldn't go out of my way to check out House of Brews, if you live or are meeting somebody in the area, this joint is as good as any.

You see, I enjoy the occasional drink once in a while, but I hate venturing out into crowded and noisy bars. "Well, you go to bars to meet people," they tell me. I keep to myself and prefer to socialize with the people I go out with, thank you very much. And that's really hard to do when you cannot hear the people you're with. So, I was surprised to find this bar just off 8th Ave. Even though there was a lot of people here, the place was pretty relaxing and it didn't feel crowded at all. Just the way i like to spend my time at the bar. I'm really not a beer drinker, so I can't really give you any feedback on that. I realize that this rating probably is solely on the bar's ambiance, but hopefully this review can help those that hate crowded and noisy bars as well!

You would think that a place called House of Brews would be really wild and fun. Instead I found myself yawning and wanting to move on to the next bar on my pub crawl over the summer. They do have a stellar selection of beers though. About 30 different kinds of bottles from around the globe. And that's not including the seasonal selections. But the crowd seemed very uptight and just hanging there to kill time before their Broadway show started. no one seems to be overly excited by the cocktail cornucopia that lies before them. It offers those who like to act like a frat boy or annoying drinker tabletop beer pong tables. Ugh..Ugh I say. The decor offers wooden booths, TVs tuned to sports, and barrels with built-in taps on display. This bar is bi-level and a way thing, because after you hear "chug, chug, chug" by the aforementioned beer pong tables, you need to escape.

The only reason I know of this place is that a friend of mine is allergic to gluten and this place serves Red Bridge, a gluten-free beer. Turns out its a great place to have a beer after work. The beers are not cheap, starting at about 5 bucks, but they do have a good selection, chill atmosphere and good pub food. If you can make it before 4:30, they have a burger and a beer special for $10. Its a thick, juicy burger on good bread with a plateful of fries and a pint of your choice of a couple of beers. One of the best deals I've come across for lunch.

Great place. Since I work in Times Square I frequent this spot pretty regularly after work. They have a great beer selection as the name implies. They also have great food, which is a little expensive for bar food, but the price on appetizers is reduced during happy hour. Also, if you live or work in the Times Square area as I do, you can take your pink "Crossroads" card ( crossroadsnyc.org ) and get 10% off your bill.

So torn. I would like to say nice things about the House of Brews, because it seems like a classy joint, and the staff is very friendly. Perhaps it is because I don't normally sit down at the bar itself, but I found Jerry to be the friendliest and most conversational bartender I've ever dealt with. Plus, they feature an interesting selection of brews, including the quite tasty Harpoon Raspberry Wheat. However, there are some definite shortcomings. First and foremost, the tricky $1.50 cheese surcharge on their $10 beer and burger with "all the fixins'" combo. Wait a minute there son. Cheese is undoubtedly a burger fixin'. Why you gotta nickle and dime me? Secondly, the burger bun was brioche, and it was disconcertingly sweet. Thirdly, the ground beef was not that good: kind of bland, and with a weird texture. I only ate about half of it. Finally, the cute cushy chairs on the upper level are nice and low to the ground, which is all well and good, except when the tables are barely rise high enough above the chairs for a short girl like me to squeeze her knees underneath. Needless to say, my 6 foot 3 dining companion found this arrangement even more uncomfortable than I did, and was forced to eat with his plate in his lap or risk serious burger juice drippage. I'll play nice and hand out three stars, because this is a decent place to throw back some brews at reasonable prices. However, please skip the food (though the fries were good) and don't be fooled into sitting at the loungey tables on the second floor. They may be cute but this place is a bar, not a lounge, and they've seriously miscalculated normal human proportions. I guess the House of Brews just runs into trouble when they branch out beyond their name's mission, because otherwise I'd be happy to write a better review.

My boyfriend and I met here in march 2011 on a first date. We went back for our one year anniversary this year. I like that it is quiet, laid-back, and not too loud, so that we were able to talk on our first date. I love the selection of beer here too. I like different types of beer, and this place has beers like chocolate, blueberry, and raspberry. This is a good place to go for beers. we will be back for our 2 year anniversary next year, i think.

Hey all you 20-something, newly-legal, "gotta gyrate" drinker/morons who think life is a frat party and say "like" every other word: This isn't a place for clubbing, dancing, getting "wild and fun," or getting a "plain 'ol margarita." IT'S A @#$%ING BEER BAR for draft beer connoisseurs (and the occasional bottled import and/or hot pepper-infused vodka). And a beer bar with a phenomenal selection, I might add. I don't know anything about rude or incompetent waitstaff. I've always found the bartenders to be professional, friendly, willing to give out tasting samples, marginally flirtatious (the women, that is), and knowledgeable. If you want a Bud Light, a burger, and a bargain - news flash: THIS AINT THE PLACE!

I went here with a large group of girls for a bachelorette party. It was nice place. We ate at a large table together upstairs. So for large groups it's good. The food was pretty good. Your standard pub/bar fare. Pretty good and the prices weren't bad. I actually was disappointed in the beer selection. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't as extensive as I thought. First of all I guess I was expecting a much larger selection of beers on tap. I've been to the Yardhouse out in San Diego. That place was excellent. They had everything you could imagine. This place being called "The House of Brews" I kind of expected the same thing. Most of the ones they had on tap were also light beers. I love the darker beers so I had to revert to the bottle list, which was large, but not that large. Again they kind of favored the lighter beers. How much they rotate their selection I really don't know, but you would think they would keep a healthy stock of certain types of beers. Overall it was alright. If you stop by for lunch or you want a casual group meal somewhere it would be a safe bet for decent. If you are a serious beer drinker looking for new novel things you might be a little disappointed as I was. There is honestly a better beer selection at WilliBrew in Willimantic, CT. This is NYC!

This place is great!! They have tons of beers to choose from, and it's a great location right on Restaurant Row. I didn't have any food, but the beer selection was awesome! Great service and a local crowd made this place a great spot for pre/post theater drinking. Wed night was 2-for-1 Stella and Thurs was 2-for-1 Yuenglings. That may be the best deal in the city! This place is called House of BREWS, so anyone rating it based on their food is missing the point. It's a cool bar.

My daughter, granddaughters and myself were going to a matinee of Wicked and wanted to eat somewhere close by.While walking around we spotted their sign and decided to have a look. While I guess you could all it a sports bar, it wasn't overly so. They had a brunch special until 4 p.m., as well as a regular lunch menu. We ordered chicken tenders, philly cheesesteak for the kids and my daughter and myself availed ourselves of the brunch. French toast and glazed pineapple was my choice and my daughter ordered the fritatta and home fries. Drinks, mimosas and bloody marys were an additional $8 for unlimited. Delish! The fritatta was watery, maybe from too many veggies. Our server was a peach. All in all, a great experience.

This place fills my heart with the joy of a would-be baby daddy's hearing Maury say "You are Not the Father!" For anyone who is a true beer fan, this place is heaven. Amazing beers, very good prices. If you live in NYC, you are lucky and very very spoiled to have such places.

I was a regular here for many years until I had a pretty bad altercation with the douchebag manager. My friends and I have spent THOUSANDS at this place over the years and this scumbag treats us like we're some disorderly kids. Complete lack of professionalism. The long and short of this place is they don't value their staff (I've watched them let more than a handful of people that had been with them for YEARS walk), they certainly don't value their customers, and they don't appreciate what the bar used to be. When this place was BB Doyle's a few years ago, the owners and the staff cared about the people in the bar, and it was a fun neighborhood hangout. Everyone who worked at the bar knew your name, and by the time you even got to your seat there was a beer waiting for you. I used to make a regular habit of bringing all of my friends here when they were in town ... now I'm ashamed to admit I spent as much money as I ever did there. This place is a tourist trap, the food sucks and is overpriced and nobody who's left there has any personality whatsoever. Try the house of brews on 46th street if you're really in the mood for a great selection. The vibe is better and even though its the same greedy out of touch owners it's without a doubt the better bar to go to these days.

Oddly enough, House of Brews really surprised me in a positive way. The beer selection is actually great. You wouldn't expect that from a place that sort of looks like a renovated T.G.I.Fridays... but there is a ton of foreign and domestic beer to choose from, and it's all organized by region. The food is also good, another surprise... burgers are a good bet, and they'll kindly serve them with a side salad. I guess my expectations weren't very high when I came in here, so I was constantly impressed. And there are also TVs here, so my friends and I enjoyed watching The Preakness while we savored some delicious brews and had a nice meal. Good beer, good food, and TVs with sports. That's the Triple Crown I'm talking about...

Place is easy to find, went on a Thursday night after work and the clientele was mostly suits with a spattering of tourists here and there. They do have a crapload of beers, no doubt but be ready to pay a hefty sum for the more "rare" brews. Their finger foods like potatoe skins and onion rings were actually pretty terrible. Can't speak for the entrees cause I didn't have any. But the worst part of the night was our wretched waitress. She was awful, rude and just not there. Maybe she had a bad day at band camp or something, but it was unacceptable. If you get seating upstairs, avoid the girl that looks like she is taking a break from the jersey shore. Go for the asian milf, she at least smiled once or twice.

This place was such an immensely pleasant surprise!!!!!! I ended up here last thursday with a bunch of friends, mostly because a bunch of us were lookin for someplace to get drunk before going to Roseland Ballroom. We saw the name, rolled our eyes, and figured it was going to be cheesy, but it was nearby, and had a really nice outdoor seating area that was sub-street level, and so we settled in. I ended up loving it and cant wait for an excuse to go back. The beer list wasn't just some giant unending list of everything under the sun, and instead had a fantastic variety of great and unusual beers from around the world. Each beer was served with either a glass appropriate to that beer (and they had many shapes and sizes of glass) or no glass at all (for the hand canned beers, like PBR). They were out of the $24 beer I wanted (a 24 oz delirium tremens from belgium) but I had a Duvel instead that was fantastic. I also had a Mothers Milk, a Skull Splitter (fantastic!), a Dead Guy Beer, a Porkslap (disgusting!) a PBR, and I think that was it for me. Our waitress was unbelievably knowledgable, and told us stories behind some of the beers and made amazing recommendations too. Oh and did i mention the food? Great bar munchies like Potato Skins and such (and they were so much better than the typical pub skins) but the highlight of the night were the mini pulled pork sandwhich sliders with garlic coleslaw. AMAZING! I had two orders. I only went inside briefly. They have two levels and I never saw the upper one, but the lower was a nice typical walkdown bar. Oh but they had these adorable little tv's built into the bar at a few of the seats so you'd have your own personal tv right in front of you. Im not sure why some people complained about the location. Who cares if its near the theater? Great bar!

Been coming here for 5 years! The bartenders are always amazing and the beer selection is always good! Hence the name lol. Food is ok but mainly come here for a cold beer!

Dinner at Becco, which is right next to House of Brews. Everything about the House of Brews is basically average or a touch above. Head downstairs, bar on the left, high tables on the right with more tables in the back. Like so many other places, the House of Brews is pretty narrow. As advertised, there is a large selection of beers. Enough TV's to catch the game, but definitely not THE place to watch the game. Overall pretty relaxed place with an above average aged crowd. Probably 3.5 stars, but I can't do that.

This place showed up when I yelped 'beer' near Columbus Circle. With an auspicious beginning like that, I was mentally prepping myself for a dive bar, but was pleasantly surprised by the classiness here. It's a very inviting space, not too loud, not too quiet, and they play great music a la 'Free Falling', 'Sweetness' and 'Such Great Heights'. My friend and I snagged a corner table and the bench was a perfect spot to relax and people watch. They've got a great selection of beers and I ended up with one of the seasonals, a smoked porter from Pleasantville (delicious, btw). Definitely coming back here one day

The Good: Amazing beer selection. Late-night (and delicious) bar food. Chicken fingers, yesssss. Great company. (Jealous?) The Bad: Theatre district locale. Sky-high prices. ($20 for a Delirium Tremens?) The Ugly: Sticky menus. Roaring pack of post-Broadway cougars in the corner, drinking Coors Light?! All in all, if you need an alternative to the overpriced, packed-to-the-gills club to hit on a Saturday night but still want a raucous good time out with your friends, House of Brews isn't a bad place to start. All the greats -- DT, Chimay, Lindeman's, plus beers from all those OTHER countries -- at ridiculous prices (but what do you expect?) and plenty of room to spread out and enjoy. And how can you not like a place that offers a brew called Pork Slap IPA?

House of Brews, I love you. Every time I come to New York, I have to go here. Granted, it's 2 doors from my friend's apartment, but we'd probably still go anyway. I literally go here directly from the airport. I spent 10 hours in here on a Saturday once. I've been upstairs once briefly, but if you just want a chill atmosphere, go downstairs. Colin is a great bartender, friendly, nice, hilarious, and anything sounds good coming from that Irish boy's mouth. I've heard he makes a mean bloody mary too. They have a wide selection of beers (hence the name, duh) so for God's sake, don't order a cosmo. Go here when you want a nice place to watch the game and talk to some great people on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon.

I went here before a show, and had a few beers and some buffalo wings. The wings were good, the beer was good, and the service was decent. It has potential, but I haven't been back yet to see what this place is capable of. The prices aren't any lower than the places around it, and that's why they get the 3 stars. I don't mind paying a little extra for beer, I do think there should be a tradeoff. If I'm already shelling out $6 or $7 for a beer each, my wings shouldn't be $15! Though, it comes with the neighborhood. You don't drink here if you're drinking on the cheap.

Good: Terrific atmosphere, pleasant wait staff. Very helpful hostess. Bad: small portions and think it deserves three $$$ symbols... Not two.

I preface this review by saying I don't drink beer. However, the pure delight in my boyfriend's face when he saw they had a selection of 80 different beers and we decided to have a night cap here with some friends is the reason for the extra star. I had been here before previously. I had a glass of wine, the only Sauvignon Blanc on their very tiny wine list. It was okay, but I didn't expect much considering this place is called "House of Brews". I liked it. Good service and it's not what I'd really consider a dive. They have tables and and upstairs and downstairs. I think if you like beer, you'd be pleased with this spot.

I luh this place. It's called House of Brews, and lives up to it's name well. I've found beers here that I spent a year looking for at other bars and beer stores. I'd been asking for Hazed and Infused (Boulder Beer) forever, and was pleasantly surprised to find out that they carried it. Oh, the aroma . . . The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. If you don't know what you want or are feeling adventurous, you can count on the bar staff to have a suggestion for you. However, just say NO to the chipotle flavored beer. There are some ingredients that just don't belong in beer, and jalepeos are one of them. Classic bar food menu, and being a bar food connoisseur, I have to give this place a solid B for selection and quality. Chicken fingers are great and the classic "plate of fries" never fails either. You won't be sorry. To sum up - awesome selection of beer, solid bar food menu, friendly and knowledgeable staff, and decent atmosphere. If you're in the area, it's a great place to stop and stay a while.

Man, have I been spoiled by Taco Mac in Atlanta. When you see a name like this, you think that this place is going to have LOTS of beers on drafts, and by lots, I mean at least 50. But I guess in NYC that takes up too much space, so they only had 20. Actually, that's quite impressive for most places. We asked for local beers (though not Brooklyn, since we can get that in Atlanta) and wound up with checkered cab. The waitress was attentive enough, and it was early enough that it wasn't too crowded or noisy. Love, love, love that there's no smoking in NYC. Good tv viewing space, comfy seats. However, kind of feels like a tourist trap, which it probably is, considering how close it is to the theatre district.

This place was really cool. Was visiting for business. Great vibe here. Walk down a few steps and find a seat. Carol the bartender was very nice and polite. There were a lot of regulars here. Would go back for sure.

This place is great if you want to get your ear talked off by a welshman who knows way too much about hops. just kidding gerard. no but seriously guys, SERIOUSLY. this place is fun, really good selection of brews (get it, house of brews? not apartment of brews and not tent of brews but HOUSE of brews. a whole freaking house). and the food is pretty good. its the theatre district so of course you pay for a musical when you order your drinks but its worth it once in a while. I recommend any captain lawrence (pleasantville, what what!) and anything gerard recommends because I guess hes probably right.

Decent food. Decent selection of drinks. Five stars mostly for the waitress that was so incredibly nice to our group. She even offered to split the tab to individual checks of 15 people. Like no server anywhere would ever offer to do that.

Uninspiring even after a pint of 6.75% and a pint of 9.8%. We worked up some hunger but $13 burger led us to stagger out prematurely.

***Note - Alcohol Review Only*** Came here last night for happy hour with some co-workers... HOB has a few tables outside and who would have thought that in Feb it would be 55 degrees out? So we grabbed the tables outside and enjoyed the weird, but nice weather we were having... HOB boasts 80+ beers on their board... I actually counted the beers on the menu... 78... WOW... that's awesome... I had a great Winter Ale - La Chouffe... It was GREAT!! Citrusy, spicy, smooth... reminds me of Hoegaarden, but better... The server was really nice and attentive... Sometimes when you having only a few outside guests, the server tends to forget, but she didn't... But yo... What's up with the smell upstairs? I was on my way to the bathroom and upon entering the 2nd floor, my sense of smell was attacked by the overpowering scent of broken coochie... Now, I don't really know what broken coochie smells like, but if I had to guess, I'd say it smells like the 2nd floor of HOB... EW....

These guys take their name seriously and it shows. By far one of the best selections of craft ale I've seen on the island. They've got Dogfish Head, Magic Hat, Victory, Brooklyn, Belgians, etc all on draft. If you're willing to get into bottles, the selection becomes ridiculous. Food is slightly above average pub fare, and they have a slew of TV's. The staff were great the night I was there, I think they are mostly actors working their off-days from the shows in the area. All of the above combine to make this a tough choice to beat if you're staying within walking distance.

Went here for some beers. The place is fine. It's got a casual atmosphere and the waitress was very friendly and helpful. I guess I was just a little disappointed in the beer selection, particularly the beers on tap. For a place called House of Brews, I figured the selection would be more in line with a place like Gingerman. They still had some high quality beers though. I'd go back if I was in the area, but wouldn't go out of my way to go back.

A awesome selection of beer and thats what matters. Any place that gives you a "beer menu" is alright in my book. The food was decent to. Great place for groups to.

Went here late one night for a drink and wasn't overly impressed with it. The beer selection was nice but it seemed like a local Hells Kitchen/Midtown West joint for suits after work. Considering its location, I'd probably not return to this house.

Great selection of beers, nice atmosphere, could do a little better on the happy hour specials, but the variety they offer more than makes up for the prices, plus the bartender was really friendly. If you're looking for an interesting beer, come here.

Many times have I walked by always wondering what kind of delicious beers would be housed within. The name of the establishment is intriguing. I went with a large group of 15 coworkers and were able to secure a few tables on the second floor. The happy hour special is $1 off all beers. Pretty decent but really what it does is is normalize prices as they were all about $1-2 more expensive than they should be. Alas, inflation due to tourist and theater viewers. Though the beer I had was quite delicious. Mother's Milk (seasonal tap) and O'Hara's (bottle, very good Guinness alternative) warmed me up. My coworkers order many pitchers of Blue Moon as they were only $10. Not certain if that was just for Monday or for happy hour in general. I then proceeded to try their beer flight which was four 2 oz or 3 oz mini mugs of any beer on tap that was $9 and below. More Mother's Milk, Leffe Blonde, and two others I can't seem to remember. Beer seems to do this to me. I also had $5 dollar wings which were really good actually. The deal is only obtainable if a NCAA tournament game was on. It was the NIT. Since it was Monday night, it had to do. I also tried the appetizer sampler which was chicken breast glazed in buffalo sauce, mozzarella sticks, and some pita with hummus. All delicious. Their menu boasted a full variety of salads, burgers, and everything else bar food beautiful. Our waitress, Hillary - who also makes her own jewelry and is about to start up a store on Etsy - was very nice and suggested great beers. I would definitely come again though the place would be a four star if the prices were a little lower.

Went here Sunday night and enjoyed the $4 New York brew pints. Got a nice little table upstairs next to the window, and the waitress was much more friendly than the normal New York server. Recommended!

The place is great. Service is quick, but appetizer prices are a bit high. The chicken tenders were good, bit it was eleven dollars for three small ones. Great place to grab some beers but snack elsewhere.

If you consider yourself a beer connoisseur or just want to want to go to a place that has a TON of different beers, this is the place for you. I have been here a few times and have always enjoyed myself. The last time I was here we went in with a group and were seated immediately. Upon being seated, you are given your "Beer" menu. It is great - larger than most food menus and just beer. This place has so many beers and tons I have never heard of. I make it a point to try beers I have never had before. Some I end up liking and some I end up hating. A real plus for me is here is that they have a lot of these not-so-well-known imported beers on tap. There is nothing better than a draft beer. Great place to go and sample a few beers. They also have 96 oz beer bongs here. You can get a 96 oz beer bong of bud light on Sundays for $15. Talk about a great deal to watch some football. I wouldn't classify this place as a "sports bar", but they have plenty of TV's throughout.

Yelp led us from our God forsaken Priceline hotel to this oasis. Very good beer selection and the food was just fine for standard pub grub. If you want to escape the buzz that is Times Square for a brewski and don't want to go too far, check this place out.

Great beer selection and a pretty good staff experience. I came here for an industry happy hour and we were in a cozy space upstairs. Quite a few sports fans were watching the Packers-Cowboys game but were not too rowdy thankfully, but the place was packed. The mini-burgers and other pub food were also tasty, as was the Chimay Triple on tap. A good spot to grab a good beer and hang out, especially if you are around midtown west.

From the outside you'd never expect to find the chic little eatery inside - but rest assured there's something for everyone. They have a great selection of beers on tap and very tasty wings and calamari. You can also expect to find great service and sports on big screen TVs.

Had lunch here on Saturday, the 18th, and it was a great time. The beverage selection is the best I have ever seen, and both the food, and service were top notch. Would heartily recommend to anyone. We will definitely be back...

51st street location. Went solo, sat at the bar. Great burger, and wonderful selection of beers. Charmingly scatter-brained barmaid, with good advice on beer and on food prep. $35 for burger and 2 beers (really, really good beers). Not cheap, but a warm, welcoming location. I'll be back. I found this place just walking by at random. What a shame that Times Square tourists waste their $$ in crappy places when great spots like this exist so nearby.

Great location if you're seeing a Broadway show, or you happed to be in the area.... Huge selection of Beers, great calamari and other pub food. And they had Kronenburg 1776, my favorite beer which is rarely on any menus...

Some friends and I stopped in for a some food and drinks before going to a music venue in Midtown. The drinks menu is rather extensive listing beers from all over the world. There were about 16 or so beers on tap and another 50+ bottled beers. Hoegaarden, Smithwicks, Newcastle, Magic Hat, Blue Moon, and Brooklyn Lager are all on tap, to name a few. The bottles included good brews like Anchor Steam, Dogfish Head, and Wailing Wench - to international beers from over 20 countries. Six seasonal brews were also available - three on tap, and three bottled. While my friends downed their Guiness, I tried the Kona Longboard too. Most beers on the menu were $6-8. In terms of food, I probably wouldn't eat here again. All of the apps and sandwiches/burgers averaged $10. The place is super clean and has a nice atmosphere. The walls are covered with several large LCD tv's, so you won't miss the game.

I can't tell you why there are two(2) 'The' House of Brews less than 6blocks from one another... but I can say I've been pretty happy with this place... lots of TV's... never had a problem grabbing a table for 2-6 of us on a week night (post run club, 8ish).. they've got plenty of beers to choose from and the food does not disappoint..... wings were great(2dz for $20) and got the thumbs up from the wing lovers in the group..their spicy buffalo sauce(they call Diablo?) was solid and no puny wings..they were good size. Chicken fingers were also great and the Drunken Burger(made with Guinness!) was steep($15) but juicy & good!! With a weekly happy hour, I'm adding this place as a go-to spot when in the neighborhood...

Came here for a Super Bowl gathering that a co-worker organized at the last minute. The pub grub was ok, nothing special. But the beer bongs of Yuengling mounted on a base with a tap made the night. They kept coming and coming, and since the damn thing was located right in front of my seat, my glass never left the half-empty mark.

I went here for the first time over the weekend, and I didn't think it was so bad. We sat up at the 2nd level, and it was still pretty early so it wasn't too crowded (just a few "just-out-of-work" groups but thats all). The beer menu is very diverse which I liked.. the chicken wings were pretty good too. The only disappointment for me, was the one drink I wanted, they didn't have one of the ingredients (?!) which was strange since it wasn't really THAT late out. I guess next time I will have to get it? I had no problems with the waitress. She did seem not all there, as she needed me to remind her twice for water, and then she forgot to charge us for one of our drinks! Wasn't too pricey, all depending what you got. the beers could range from $6-$20-something (with $1 off during happy hour) with some mixed drinks around $9-$11.

I had been here several times to meet out of town friends before/after a show (it's down the street from the Gershwin), but then I moved into the neighborhood and discovered mid-week BOGO Beers and $.25 cent wings for NFL Sundays. Add to that some of the friendliest bartenders in the world, and this is a favorite waiting to happen. And the food is fine -- just your standard issue bar/pub menu. If that's what you are looking for, you'll be fine. If you want a fancy meal, go to one of the other 300 restaurants in a 4 block radius of the place while the rest of us guzzle the tasty, cold brews.

I don't really hang here but I file in every spring and summer once, maybe twice for the burger and a pint. You see, I have yet to find a bar the serves Checkered Cab which to me is like if Stella had a spring brew that's what it'd taste like. I even like the fact that it's the only place I have found it so far. So yeah, I love the burger, its a well built , great tasting burger, but the fact that it comes with a free pint of Checkered Cab makes it well worth the visit.

Traditional bar food with a couple twists like whiskey gravy, bison burgers, and butternut squash toppings. Medium to thick cut fries were good. Not a huge selection of drafts, but several local ones. This was a random find but I'm happy I stopped here.

Getting Sloshed One Country at a Time The House of Brews is a great location to host a birthday or just a friendly get together with friends and coworkers. You will find your standard bar foods such as sliders, wings, nachos and burgers. All are pretty well prepared, but you aren't coming here for the food. You are here for the larger than life listing of beers, wine and hard liquor. It is one of the few bars in the city that serve one of my favorite beers Kronenbourg (made in Alsace, France which is located near the French/German border). For all my other beer decisions I typically close my eyes and point to a random beer. If my finger lands on Utopia, I retry since I don't feel like paying over $100 for a beer. There service is solid and friendly, but the bartender who handled the bar a few months ago during my last visit was truly impressive. Capable of taking multiple orders, pouring/mixing many drinks at once and remembering where they all go during the lunch rush. Meanwhile he was trying to find out where my online order disappeared to. Also remembers his regulars and their typical orders (just like any good bartender should). If you tend to order food online like me don't use delivery.com for House of Brews. For some reason my order didn't go through. The manager and I tried to figure out the issue and we deduced that it originated from delivery.com . Despite not being at fault the manager made certain my order came out of the kitchen post haste. I recommend showing up in person and placing the order, calling or using another site. Overall: 3.75 Stars Look no further if you are looking to wet your whistle after a long day of work, whether you are alone or with a group of friends and colleagues.

Down in a cellar (almost) no phone signal but they can give you a wifi password. The place needs a bit of an airing but it is fine if you just need a place to his edit the sunlight and have drinks with friends or a sunlight challenged date :) Otherwise, nothing to make this stand out to be honest.

Doesn't compare in beer brand numbers to The Peculier Pub, but they do have a good selection. I'm happy to see that they support to locals including the fine BRONX BEER on their menu. There are lots of taps and a decent selection of bottled beer. I had an excellent Shiner Bock... a Texan beer that is rare in NYC. For bar pizza, that was surprisingly good. We also had the wings-- just okay and the nachos-- same. The bar is decent and would earn 3 stars (one minus for not having a record of our reservation) if not for Nicole our waitress. She's a star and deserves one for herself. Funny, friendly, on the spot, and a good sport (we're not the easiest group to deal with). Thanks Nicole. --Drink Club NYC is a roving group of NYC drinkers, a different bar every week

My friends and I have been going on a trivia "world" tour as we try to find the best trivia spot in NYC. Lately we've been frequenting various NYC Trivia League locations. The House of Brews sports the typical league format (five rounds, one of them a picture round), although they temporarily are not having an audio round as they try to fix the issue. The question master, Alex T., did a very good job efficiently going through the questions and checking everyone's scores - the tightly-run trivia ship ran Tuesday night from roughly 7:15pm-9pm. The only issue is that the bar may not be able to have an audio round for the foreseeable future. The start time is notable, as the place ties with Social Bar as having the league's earliest start time (which is also a key selling point for the two places). There's a healthy amount of competition (16 teams). The first-place prize was the second-biggest I've seen in the city ($75 off your bar tab). Second place was $25 off, and third place got a free round of drinks. The burger/fries were standard, but on my second trip I enjoyed the turkey burger. Both times the waitress was very attentive. The first time I went there was a slight service hiccup with my friend's burger order, but it was properly addressed (she admitted there was an issue with the system, apologized, offered a free drink, fast-tracked the order, and then soon returned with it). There's a happy hour until 7pm (which includes $5 Bud Lights), and drink specials throughout the night. The biggest strengths were the earlier start time, efficiently run trivia, and number of competing teams, but everything else (prizes and the establishment itself) were average. Social Bar has a good amount in common (league trivia spot, location, start time), but I enjoyed the food more there.

As a spoiled, beer loving, San Diegan, I was underwhelmed by House of Brews. It did not live up to their name. The tap list is pretty short, maybe 15 tops. The bottle list is slightly longer but unimpressive. They had local choices on tap as well as a few non locals I went with the Brooklyn Brewery summer ale. It was good! The place is dark and slightly below street level, not bad but again just average, normal. There's nothing special here but there's nothing particularly bad either.

I came here to watch UFC 187 and had a fantastic time. No cover. We came around 8 PM and got seats at the upstairs bar (they play music downstairs, but fight commentary upstairs). All the tables upstairs were reserved. Amanda was our bartender and was great even when it got busy (around 10 pm). First time watching a fight in Manhattan and strongly recommend this place... even though I lost $20 betting on Johnson... haha.

I made a mistake coming here! Not in a bad way. Problem is, I overstayed my welcome and had a wee bit too much to drink. A stones throw away from the hotel we were staying at, and surveying many restaurants up-and-down the street, the House of Brews was where we settled in for lunch. The place is inviting with seating outside after you walk down a few steps. We chose to eat inside. As we walked through the door from the outside patio, the bar was to the left, with tables along the right and in the back. The lighting comfortably dim, with plenty of lighting along the back of the bar, which was complete with a large flat-screened TV. A new tap handle and keg had just arrived for Brooklyn Brown Ale. I ordered one and it was a full-bodied flavorful beer. In asking about their entire selection, they boast 20 different craft beers on tap, with 80 different styles representing over 27 microbreweries in bottles. Our bartender was Pat. We got into an interesting conversation since he attended The College of NJ, not to far from our home. Asking Pat what he would recommend from the menu, he described the vegetable pizza as one of the most popular items on the menu. We ordered the pizza, which was delicious and plentiful. Where I left the path to a decent lunch and a wonderful night was when I started in with Goose Island Sofie Farmhouse Ale. It's a wine barrel-aged beer with a slight orange taste. It was delicious. While it is only 6.5% ABV, I had 6, count them, 6 in a an hour and a half. Buzzed didn't quite describe it. Arlene paid the tab, pushed me out the door, and hailed a cab to deliver me to the hotel which was only a block away. Am I going to House of Brews again? Hell, yea! Will I drink more than a few Sophie's? Nooooo. House of Brews is a winner. You should give it a try the next time you visit Hell's Kitchen.

Ate here on a Wednesday before a show. Fantastic burgers. Great service. Good music. Lovely desserts. My kids loved it. Seems like a good date place, not too loud. Fantastic burgers, beer, dessert, and service...!!!! Honestly. Come here.

So I walk into House of Brews at noon on a Saturday, to watch a major soccer game (the FA Cup) before going into work nearby. There were two people finishing up at the bar, paying the check, and 2 or 3 others spread out throughout the place-- it was dead. The game is already on the TV... nice! "Hey boss," I said to the bartender, "Any chance of us watching that game with the sound on?" "No," he says, "We only put the sound on if there are a bunch of people. To put the sound on for just"--he looks at me, dismissively-- "ONE guy, it's not fair to the other customers." Ok, if that's their policy-- who am I? I'm just one guy... and If 3 people would rather listen to the old Red Hot Chili Peppers songs playing inside the bar, that's that. I went to another bar down the street, where in a place FULL OF PEOPLE, the management was tripping over themselves to find the soccer game and put the sound on, because they're awesome and understand how to run a business. I'll just go there first from now on. Even though I have worked in this area for nearly 10 years, and have hung out at HOB many times, I won't spend my money here again. It's not fair to the other bars in the area who are way cooler.

Chill spot! I'm not sure how they usually are on Friday nights, but when my friends and I arrived for a small birthday gathering at 9 p.m. one Friday evening, we had an entire backroom virtually to ourselves up through midnight! The amount of brews is pretty impressive, but, per usual, I was glad for five ciders to choose from, including McKenzie's Seasonal on tap. (Yay!) The food options were passable, the beau enjoying a few regular ol' mozzarella sticks to fill his belly while we had a few drinks. The staff was extremely helpful and accommodating. I arrived to my friend's birthday gathering, yet my friend's name was not on the list! A few others of us arrived, asking to go to "Marie's party", but they could not find the reservation! The hostess was as puzzled as we were. (I know my friend is not one to lie about a reservation she made! Haha.) She called the other House of Brews location to make sure it wasn't placed there, and it wasn't. No matter; she and one of the waitresses set us up in the aforementioned space in the rear of the second floor, and service was incredibly on the ball. Everyone we encountered were so pleasant! I was very pleased with this spot. Though the cacophony off of 8th Avenue can irk me more often than not, this is slightly off of the beaten path and a very nice respite.

Came here with some friends to watch a UFC event. This is a nice bar with a bunch of seating upstairs. TVs all over the place so you can see from every angle in the place. They have great beer and drinks - but what really surprised us was the food. We ordered wings, burgers, fries, all that goodie goods. Everything was great. Our favorite, however, was the Mom's Baked Mac & Cheese. It was just made so deliciously, everyone was at the table was fighting over the last bites. Throughout the night, the place got super crowded. Although we had seats, there was people standing almost right on top of us. One star off for the fact that we called a few days ahead of time to reserve a large booth and were told they don't do reservations, yet when we got there, all the booths had RESERVED signs on them. That pissed us off - we were a large group that spent a lot of money on their food and drinks and all we wanted was a booth so that the other people weren't right on top of us.

Ordered Jamison burger. Burger itself good. Bun was probably from local grocery store. Stale. Cheese looked like velvetta First beer cool in temperature served in warm glass. Second beer I asked for a cold glass. Came in a slightly cooler glass. I travel every week for work and eat at a lot of burger and beer places. Worst in an least 2 years. This is NYC...I expect better. ****UPDATE**** Previous review was 1 star based on my experience...but was contacted by manager about my experience. That means a lot in terms of customer service. He very sincerely wants to make things right. 5 stars for customer service / doing right thing. Updating to 3 stars based on management response.

We planned a night in the city (i.e., dinner and a show with another couple). I began my planning by making a reservation in Yelp using their SeatMe thing). This actually worked quite well, as the restaurant called to confirm the reservation the morning of. We arrived at the restaurant a little early, but the rest of our party was running late getting into the city. The hostess was quite flexible, giving us the option of sitting at our table and waiting or waiting at the bar. We chose to wait at the bar. The bar was a little narrow, had lots of televisions, and three different bartenders in staff. My wife and I both had a flight of four beers, trying all of their seasonal options. The bar area was find and the selection on tap was good. The washrooms in the bar area were VERY small and not that clean. When the rest of our party arrived, we were seated right away. The food was great!!!!! My wife had the Jamison burger, I had the Beer and Bacon Mac and Cheese, my colleague had the same, and his wife had the turkey burger. We all raved about the food, and I can't say enough about that Beer and Bacon Mac and Cheese. Overall, we'd go back and I know I'd order the same thing.

So I already gave this place a five star review back in 2012, but wanted to let everyone this place still does a stellar job. The beer list is very nice and though it's not too adventurous, you'll find plenty to drink. Beer club came here with about 33 people and the place was hopping. Everyone had a great time and a very important reason people had a good time can be summed up in one word: Amanda Now, Amanda knows us from NYBC, where she was also awesome. But her ability to keep 30+ thirsty guys supplied with beers all night was beyond incredible. She handled the crowd with grace and aplomb and we couldn't have been happier. We've always had good service here but this is a reminder to me that we need to do more events here. Thanks to Amanda and the management staff for a fun evening.

Not the largest selection of beer around but they have a rotating draft set of four, so mix it up. It's a nice little bar for a drink with friends. Not too loud and very comfortable for men and ladies alike.

Looking for a pub which is relatively speak-easy and not crazy loud in the midtown? Go to this spot, to the second floor. It's pretty spacious while it's not easily packed in the evening, even on Friday. You can relax and have a long conversation with your frieds over drinks. I'm rating this place with 4 stars to give credit to this friendly ambience. I also watched Worldcup matches this summer on the second floor with my parents. My dad, a big fan of local beers, loved their Brooklyn beers as well as a beer glass with an embedded green logo of 2014 Brazil WorldCup. He wanted to take it home for just his memories of vising the city, and the manager was happy to give us the glass! So nice of her!

Great little place for burgers and beers before the show. I had a bison burger that was great. The IPA was very good and the service good. The location is the best. Took a taxi from Penn station to the place and then walked to the theater. My wife was very happy.

Came here on a Friday last minute (about 6:30) before seeing an 8pm show. Hostess said there was no wait. The hostess was extremely pleasant and joyfully showed us to our seat. It was happy hour and the beer list shows HH selections for $5 but there was no menu for other happy hour selections. I verbally asked waitress. Went with a margarita. Margarita looked beautiful! Never ever tasted the alcohol but whatever, it was cheap. Hubby ordered a rye old fashioned and it turned out a little different than normal but overall, fine. I ordered the avocado turkey burger. Very yummy! Menu says it comes with Brussel sprouts. Do not be deceived. It's only 2 full Brussel sprouts (4 halves) and fries as a side. Fries were delicious as was the burger. Hubby got fish and chips. He meant to give me a taste of the fish but forgot and it was gone! Must have been yummy! Check came quickly when we asked as we were sorta in a hurry. Overall, it was a last minute resort that turned out to be great!

2 full pages of awesome beer selections with elaborate descriptions for armatures like me. How did I not know about this place after working at the neon building 2 blocks away for 2+ years until I moved across the country?! Low key... The food is NOT just bar food! Bangers and Mash was ridiculously delicious... Then wash it down with a cold bahston lager... Man it makes me want to be a dude!

My girlfriends and I ended up at the bar while waiting for our table at Ippudo. The beer list isn't all that exciting, but it was a great place to sit, drink, and chat. The waitress always made sure we had a drink and that everything was okay. It was quiet when we went on a Saturday around dinner time but it was exactly what we were looking for.

My friends and I came here while we were waiting for a table to open up at Ippudo. The hostess was friendly and seated us immediately. We were offered a table that was more inside the establishment, but there was a great table just in front with a large TV playing the NFL game, so we sat there instead. They have an extensive beer menu. I opted for the Kopparberg Pear Cider, which was really good and refreshing -- it tasted of real pears (almost like biting into a Bartlett). My boyfriend and I also ordered the nachos and mozzarella sticks. The food was pretty average for bar food, so we were satisfied with everything. Nice place. I could see why people come here.

Recently visited NYC with a group... We stopped in here a couple of times during our trip, both during the afternoon and evening. The afternoon visit was less busy, and we had a good time talking with the bartender ,who made some great beer/food pairing suggestions. The pork empanadas and crispy fried calamari (mixture of calamari, cherry peppers, and shallots) were great and went well with beers on tap that he suggested. Beers that we can't get here in Oklahoma. :( Our evening visit was little busier, with slower service, but the food and beer were still delicious. We enjoyed the opportunity to sit down and relax in between checking out the city.

I had their macaroni and cheese and It was so good. The waitress was really nice and it wasn't as expensive as most places around the area had been. Avg meal was 12-15. My sister had really want craft beers and was pleased with their beer. Although I thought they might have more?

This review is exclusive because I was here for a small painting event. Held in a small section on the second floor for the painting class. There was a two drink minimal; ordered a bluepoint blueberry ale and pomegranate margarita. I really enjoyed my ale but the glass they gave me had a lip mark on it which i had to wipe off since i didn't want to trouble them for another empty beer glass. If only the ale was a bit more chilled then it would of been even better. The margarita was decent, not too watered down. Place was rowdy because it was a Tuesday and trivia night was going on. Crowd got into teams to compete to win money vouchers to spend on this place. It seemed fun but I did not participate in it since I was painting. It was kind of distracting to paint in such a noisy environment but the space was pretty nice. The instructor said the food is pretty good but didn't get a chance to order anything since I was too busy with my painting. Waitress was sweet even though she got our tabs mixed up. She was quick and got it fixed right away.

Happy I came here for a relaxing afternoon lunch with a friend last week. We were looking for a place to sit outside, while having a beer and some junk food! I mean there are plenty of places in the city for that, we just happened to pass this place first! This is not the greatest place to eat outside. There are a few tables outside in a nook. It is below street level. Not a good view. I was just so hungry and warm at the time i just wanted food and to sit outside anywhere. $5 beer happy hour for a regular glass is okay... not the best happy hour I have seen around. But it was the macaroni and cheese entree list that made me stay here. My friend liked the $5 margaritas and cosmos... which she said was really worth it. I ordered a pull pork mac and cheese. it came very hot in a casserole dish. Overall I definitely enjoyed the food, and found it satisfying. However my problem was the meat being a little chewy. It could have been a lot more tender. Luckily the sauce that was incorporated into the macaroni was tangy and yummy!

Oh House of Brews, why didn't I find you earlier? We were seated on the second floor and I immediately loved the layout. We sat in a cozy, comfortable booth and ordered food right away. Beef sliders, mozarella sticks and a burger. Food came immediately and was pretty good. Good bar for a drink or a burger and to catch up with friends.

We had tickets for an early Sat show and were looking for a place to have lunch before hand. Arrived just after they opened so the place was all but empty. Next time will try to sit outside as it is a bit on the dark side but that is to be expects for a bar after all, not a knock on the place just a personal observation. The service was great and the food was too. We both had the bar burger with sweet potato fries. Excellent burgers but my wife and I are split on the fries. She thought they were too greasy were I thought they were just about right. I guess that goes to taste. I also tried the chocolate and peanut butter crepes with vanilla ice cream. Overall it was good but found there was more peanut butter then chocolate proportions making it more of a peanut butter creep. We will be coming back again for sure.

Its ok to stop in here for a drink after dinner. The atmosphere is that of a late 30's/40 crowd and tourists from the nearby hotel. Saw some of the staff having their breaks at a table by the entrance which I thought was strange.

Stumbled upon this place earlier this afternoon. The positives were that they had, hands down, the best beer selection around. We ordered the empanadas to start. They were filled with lamb and golden raisins and they were delicious. Now for the negatives. I had a salmon burger for dinner and it was pretty bland. My friend ordered the pulled pork Mac and cheese. He enjoyed it but it didn't really sit well with him. Lastly, the service was a little poor. Our waitress only had our table but it took a very long time to get her attention and eventually, the drinks.

Very very nice. Two floors, buzzing atmosphere but not crowded. Reasonably priced, extensive beer list. Waitresses were very nice and quick. Lots of tables, definitely a place to grab a seat with friends and stay a while. They serve food but I didn't have any. A lot of people ordered food, entire families (sometimes with children...) came here for dinner so it must be worth something. Oh, the music here is really diverse. It's accompanied by a TV playing music videos which can be a nice blast from the past. I'd definitely come back!

Decent beer selection for both tap and bottle at Hell's Kitchen prices which is to say a tad too high. I did see the bartenders break two glasses by mistake, which I have no issue with, it was just kinda funny and they astutely observed that it was two fewer cups to wash. To protect them, I will not say what day I was there.

They serve some great beer (Allagash white!), and they have a fantastic chef. One of the best Buff chicken wraps in this part of the city. One of the less crowded places, especially during the weekend, which is a surprise. Great joint.

This was a neat place to stop for some after-dinner drinks. Tried several of the beers and the "Flights of Beer" option was a good way to have small servings of 4 different beers. Did not eat here, but the food looked good!

Great bar!

Fun bar. Gets crowded in the evening. Waitstaff nice but not overly eager except for bartender Collin. He was super!

  • Jason C.

  • Tyler L.

  • Olivia R.

  • Brian S.

    (3)

Extremely friendly.

good selection of beers on tap and in bottles - Weihenstephaner is here, which makes me happy. a bit costly, but not out of place in this sector of the concrete jungle. the seats are way comfortable. not much more to say. I went here a few times in my pre-Yelp days, but hadn't been back until the other night when my really drunk friend needed one more beer. being an enabler, I said sure.

I never choose to drink in the Times Square area, but I came here for a company happy hour - the food, drinks, and service were all good...as in nothing particularly amazing, and nothing to complain about

OK place, I feel like they have way too many TV's for my taste. I did have a founder Double IPA which made me tolerate the TV situation a little easier. :)

This place is the true dive bar you could easily walk by. Yet at the same time. Its clean, great atmoshphere, laid back. The food is unreal. Do not pass this place up ! Cheers !
