Popped in here to grab a snack before hopping onto the Lucky Star bus from NYC to Boston. Luckily I was first in line at 10am and got some fresh fried chicken. An angel must have been watching over me because they had a $1.99 deal for two pieces of chicken and a biscuit. Plus, I made it just in time for my bus ride back home. It was a wonderful welcome back from Europe because you know they don't have fried chicken like this over there!

There was a ton of people here who love their Cajun fried chicken the night I dropped by. All the tables were occupied and the workers couldn't exactly keep the place clean, as people kept coming in and demanded their fried chicken. The big thing is that this Popeye's is right next to the Chinatown bus stop going to and from Boston. This is definitely the biggest selling point, especially if you're catching one of the later trips (I personally took the 10 o'clock bus back to Boston last week). This Popeye's is like the only American establishment in all of Chinatown. You see all these Chinese and ethnic storefronts, then all of a sudden, Bam! a Popeye's out of nowhere! The service is okay, however, one thing that bugged me was that you have to be buzzed in to use the restroom. It's not convenient, and can offer an opportunity for someone to walk in on you or vice versa. I suppose it's a necessity considering that there are a lot of vagrants in this area too. The restaurant only accepts cash, which is a total bummer. I was only lucky that my friend gave me some cash after he owed me for lunch earlier last Friday. The quality of the chicken was good overall, but I felt that it could have been hotter (as in temperature-wise). I realized that this restaurant wasn't 100% wheelchair friendly, as you'd have to go around to get onto a level entrance. So, if you're not a paraplegic and you don't mind warm chicken and being buzzed into the restroom to wash your hands, then this Popeye's is for you!

I guess Chinese people like their fried chicken, this has survived while some of the other restaurants and other places around it have failed. And it's a great place to pop in before a trip to Boston and grab some food before you go... although people on the bus will be mildly jealous. Service is generally quick, decent turnover and all the regular Popeyes food makes it a generally solid snacking place or if you need a quick meal. Some seating.

I love that it's near me. They always have deals on their posters hanging on their windows and walls. Don't order the pricier items on the menu when they run specials all the time..check out the posters! I never eat there but it looks clean and I always see tables to sit at. Only problem is other Popeye's will oblige me if I ask for all dark meat on their MIXED PIECES specials. Not this location because majority of the Chinese people love their dark meat! Hey I am Chinese..I can say that!

It's Popeyes comes to Chinatown! This location is perfect for the Boston-New York travelers, especially in the later hours when many other things have closed. Proximity to the train BD makes it a convenient stop for food and it's actually clean! Which is amazing considering the location and number of people they serve. Seating can be tight, but there are tables at the front and a more obscure set of tables to the right, making it a total of about 10-14 tables (I think). Since there are many people in and out daily, the food is fresh, warm, and just fantastic! Will probably go there to get the fried chicken this weekend. And the biscuits! The service can be slow depending on who is running the cash register and packing your food, but not too bad considering how good it is!

My reason for disliking this Popeyes is solely because of the lack of air ventilation. Whenever I used to go inside, I'd immediately want to come right back outside. How can you make your customers enjoy their food if they are not even comfortable eating the food? Perhaps, getting take outs are okay but dining in is totally NOT. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of Popeyes.. it's just this branch that I dislike.

*Must Try: Cajun Fries! Extra addicting. *you can never go wrong with Popeyes' mashed potatoes or buttery biscuits, especially when served hot and fresh! *Popcorn Shrimp are tiny pieces of crunchy awesomeness. *Fried Chicken is always crispy with juicy meat. *expect a long wait, even if the line looks short.

The chicken was so juicy, see picture. I would have liked the spicy to be spicier though. Three pieces for $5 was a great deal.

Popeyes at Canal St. - DON"T GO... Cashiers don't speak fluent english.. I told cashier, 11 piece bonafire. Kept on asking me- "what number, what number"? I thought i went to chinese restaurant. So i pointed to them. "Spicy? Mild?" he asked me. I told him" I want dark meat". He ignored me and threw in 11 pieces of chicken into box and said $25.99. I threw 4 pieces of white meat into garbage.

Fast food restaurants are almost everywhere. Except when I want fried chicken, I will always trust popeyes. I stopped by on Monday desperately wanted to dig into some juicy fried chicken and I almost sprinted to Popeyes. It is in a very convenient location and is almost always packed. I chose the option of 11 mixed (or tenders) for 13.99. They had another option of 10 for 12.99. I save 2 cents per chicken when I do the first option (haha). I had a mix of spicy and mild and they were so good. Their hot sauce is more on the sour side with a kick of heat. Popeyes will always be my favorite place to get fries at. Tip: order a small soda because a medium costs 3.09 and it is not that much worth it. KFC used to be my favorite chicken place, but no one can do fried chicken like popeyes. Their tenders are always good as well, except they are so stingy about their sauces. It is .25 cents for an extra sauce. Despite the complications of their prices, I will always be back for some good finger lickin' juicy fried chicken.

Cheated me. Normally, you can expect a skimpy piece or two, like a breast piece that's got a chunk missing, but the last time i went here it was inexcusable. I ordered a 16 piece mixed spicy/regular. When i got home, i found that there were 8 wings; that is HALF of the pieces were the smallest pieces instead of four pieces each of breast, wing, thigh and drumstick. I called them to complain and they said it must have been an accident. I'm sorry, but you don't accidentally make half my order wings.

This Popeyes is below average service and restaurant setting wise compared to the average Popeyes, in my opinion. Located at the corner of Chrystie and Canal Streets this Popeyes is a popular haven for the homeless and bus riders to sleep and just loiter around. The employees here don't really seem to mind as they also use the restrooms without purchasing anything and leave a mess. Food wise, it's fried chicken. Who doesn't love fried chicken?

It was a cold Wednesday night. I was drunk. And Popeyes filled that hunger burning inside of me. If I was a Zillionaire, I'd hire a chef who's sole purpose was to make me the fried chicken and the bbq of my dreams. Everyday. However, even then... probabley a few times a year, I'd have to eat me some Popeyes. I know what good burgers are, but sometimes...I just need a Big Mac or half a dozen White Castle burgers. Same with fried chicken. Is it Blue Ribbon, Amy Ruth's or Bob White quality? Hell, to the N. O. But, when the time calls for dirty and cheap fried chicken, this Popeyes is it.

Reviewing a Popeye's? I rarely review fast food restaurants, but I thought I should give a quick review to one of my favorite Popeyes locations. This one's located at the foot of Manhattan Bridge. It's a decent size for a Chinatown restaurant with adequate seating. Through the years, the best thing about this location is that there are always 9, 11, or 13 piece chicken specials. For some reason, the Popeyes at Walker Street never seems to have these types of deals. To sweeten the deal, if you are a dark meat fan, you can ask them to limit your order to legs and thighs only! I've been to other locations where they don't allow this. As for asking about white meat only, I don't know if they would allow this. As for the chicken quality, this Popeyes chicken is never overcooked, always golden brown and has high turnover, so the chicken is always hot. In summary, I think this location is what Popeyes is meant to be.

DAMN YOU POPEYES - DAMN YOU TO HELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I ordered to go here an hour ago on SUPERBOWL SUNDAY looking for a good WING MEAL. I ordered the 12 pc mixed family meal, and asked if I could have all dark meat; they said yes and I was a happy camper b/c I know a lot of spots don't do this. When I got home, I opened the box excitedly, ready to destroy some wings when I realized that NONE OF THE 12 PIECES WERE WINGS -- like, not even one f*cking wing. I was/am so beyond angry that I paid $32 for a meal that doesn't contain the one thing I freaking wanted. And WTF MAN, since when were wings not dark meat? I'm sorry, is it too hard to differentiate dark & white meat? Are wings in the gray area? WTF MAN!!!!!!!!! DUDE, IT'S SUPERBOWL SUNDAY AND I HAVE NO WINGS. Am I overreacting? My boyfriend says no - and for $32, I don't believe I am!!!!!!! Sigh. I know reviews for chain restaurants are sorta like 'eh' but I needed to do this. Unfortunately, this is the only popeyes in the vicinity, so next time I have a craving I will make it crystal clear to them that I want wings included. Excuse me while I cry in the corner.

I get the fried chicken here everyone once in a blue moon. I normally get the 2 or 3 piece meal with a biscuit. The pieces of chicken you get w this value meal are so tiny and sad looking compared to the ones they have displayed. They must have a hidden rack with these "special" pieces so you don't get them till after you paid lol. The biscuit is okay, but on my last occasion must have sat under the lamp way too long. Plus they only take cash :(

  • A W.

I love fried chicken and biscuit, nothing can stop my love for fried chicken, so this place is perfect for me when I crave for fried chicken. I always like to get the three pieces with a biscuit. The drunstick, wing and the other piece were juicy and delicious!

Love Popeyes chicken and this is my closest location. The good Popeyes taste is consistent here but the the service and chicken size is not. Would be nice if they offered a chicken basket special of dark meat only at lower price like they do in some of the suburb locations.

Those tender pieces are so tiny, and they just give you a little bit of fries compared to a popeye I go in brooklyn.

I popped in for a blackberry & cream cheese pie, which turned out to be delightful, and something to wash it down with. The chicken looked golden and glorious. Although I didn't get any on this particular visit, it was there in abundance. The joint was busy. No service mistakes. Free refills. I like this location to take in the scenery. I'll be back again.

Chicken and biscuits don't get any better! This location is VERY busy since this part of Chinatown is covered with bus travelers. I suggest that if you're looking for the best bang for your buck in this area and you like fried chicken, you're in the right place! NOM NOM NOM.

Pros: It's open and it was close to my Hotel. Cons: Out of my entire stay in Chinatown this is the ONLY time I've gotten an upset stomach from eating out. And I ate everywhere. Got a 3 piece with a biscuit, took back to Hotel, ate it, got sick. Not fun. Maybe if the food were actually HOT it would have 1)tasted decent 2) not have bread food-poisoning-qualities. Also, Staff were decent enough. I wish I went to any random place other than this for my late night fixing.

  • Tim G.

I kinda stumbled upon here when we took the D train back to Chinatown and ended up in the Lower East side by the Manhattan bridge. The fried chicken here was good compared to Popeye's standards but the butter shrimp box wasn't that hot. It was too greasy and the shrimp was really small. I wouldn't recommend getting that here. This is a cash only place and they don't accept credit cards. They have an ATM machine inside but I wouldn't trust it... The restroom was sketchy and really musty. They also ran out of paper towels :-\.

This place is usually a regular Popeyes, but today just pissed me off. The guy at the cashier tries to rip me off and sound like he's making a deal for me by separating my 3 piece bonafide meal into different deals. The 3 piece and a biscuit for 3.99 special, a small side, and a drink. It comes out the $8.44. The guy walks away to get my food and the other cashier looks at what he's done and changes it all to a regular meal and it comes down to $8.14. Though it's only $0.30, the guy tried to gyp me. Like what the heck. I'm usually very calm too, but what the hell. He doesn't ask me if I want spicy or mild, let aside any preferences for pieces. He doesn't even bother to give me my receipt despite paying with credit card. He doesn't ask. He assumes I don't want it. The chicken is overly salty. You could taste the salt all over the chicken. Disgusting. He didn't even give me napkins. When I ask for more napkins, the cashier gives me 2 napkins. Like what the hell. This guy deserves to be fired. An angry man right here! The nerve. The nerve!

Definitely not one of the better Popeye locations I been to. And I know its Chinatown and all but can you accept Credit Cards?!?! Even the McDonalds a block away accepts and so does the Popeyes in Flushing....Its actually one of the reasons why I don't really come to this spot because its a hassle on me to go to the bank. The food is whatever but I've had better Popeyes. People can head over to the other spot on Walker and Center Street where its cleaner and accepts CCs.
