Advertised as having Jewish deli fare...total EXAGGERATION in the inducement. Jewish delis have tounge and corned beef...not ham, italian sausage, and capicola. If you put this on Long Island (or heck even Cleveland Heights) ...the newspaper reviewers would eat YOU for lunch for deceiving the public... Evidently the industrial rot of Buffalo has effected the area between the ears that pertains to food knowledge.

Luckily, I stumbled upon this little secretive spot hidden in the basement of the Pearl Street Brewery/Grill. Hardly a hole in the wall, the use up a ton of space trying to go for that NY deli vibe. Great place to stop in for a quick bite for breakfast or a sandwich. My The Cycle" (turkey, 2 eggs, and spinach between toasted wheat) was one of the most substantial breakfast sandwiches I've ever eaten. And if you really think you're a big eater, "The Barrel" is a 3.5 lb behemoth costing $29 but free if you can take it down.

I had heard good things about the deli downstairs from Pearl Street and finally made it over for lunch with colleagues a week ago. Upon walking in, I was pleased with the menu. There were plenty of options for sandwiches and some interesting salads. The sandwiches were very big and everyone seemed to enjoy their sandwiches or salads. The potato salad is very good. It had some kind of meat in it...bacon? some kind of smoked ham? I don't know, but it was good. Unfortunately, where they were speedy with most orders one colleague and I had to wait so long for our sandwiches that everyone else at our table was halfway finished by the time ours came. I think they went out to catch the tuna to make it. At least 7 people who ordered after me got their food before I did. Another colleague had a big piece of plastic bag mixed in the lettuce of her salad. When she went up to show the workers, they just took the plastic and threw it away without even an apology. Although I enjoyed my sandwich and potato salad when it finally came, Brawler's service did not impress me and doesn't make me want to go back.

I've always liked Pearl St, so I figured this could be a good downtown lunch option. Its a large, nice space in the basement of Pearl St, with a promising menu. Unfortunately the food and service doesn't live up to the space or the restaurant upstairs. 'Girlie' and 'Brawler' sizes of sandwiches aren't whole or half subs as you might expect, but rather too much meat or double too much meat. I ordered a hot brawler turkey on white thinking I'd get a whole toasted sub, and then waited 5 minutes while the disinterested girl at the counter called out orders in the most nondescript way possible (turkey sandwich! - did that guy take my food?). Once one came up that seemed to be mine, what I ended up with was 2lbs of warmed up deli turkey, a cold slice of cheese, on two slices of cold wonder bread, for $13. I mentioned that I'd ordered a hot sandwich and she confirmed - yes, he warmed the turkey on the grill. What about the mac salad I'd paid for? "Oh, we're out of it, you can have chips if you want. Or, I might be able to find one more potato salad." Find one? Like one that fell behind the fridge? I rolled my dice with the latter option and it was questionably old. Gas station mayo and mustard packets in a box by the napkins. $15 down the can - I will not be back.

This place has a great old world deli quality about it. I am constantly amazed how clean the rough cut lumber rafters are. Every sandwich I have tried has been worth every cent of the price and the Pearlie girl is an incredible sandwich. Not to mention a short trip upstairs has some of the best locally brewed beer in the area

Unfortunately, I do not subscribe to the "bigger is better" notion in terms of eating. The sammies are stomach-turning HUGE. So large that I think about putting that thing in my mouth and lose my appetite. Yup, that's me-your meat is TOO BIG. You can roll your eyes right now. Cough cough. So I try to order their salads for lunch and they can't, for the love of god, ever get it right. I've gone back too many times and had to fix too many orders. The juliene salad is supposed to come with egg, cukes and tomatos....I order it with chicken salad as the meat, and get chicken salad on a handful of lettuce. No comprendo.

Egg sandwich was great. Greasy, meaty, and delicious. Honestly, exactly was I was looking for during my stay

THE staple for my meeting-friends-for-lunch, this review is long overdue. The only reason I leave off a star is because there is nothing small or lite if you are just looking for a bite. So bring your appetite! My favorites are The Pearlie Girl & Chicken Salad Wrap, but I have also enjoyed the Reuben. All orders come with a small side of either pasta or potato salad. I've hit this place up a few times after work as well and they offer a great selection of beers including in-house brews however, they are usually only open until 3pm.

Very good sandwiches!! Hidden downstairs. Sandwiches are packed with meat and lots of variety.
