Didn't stay there but popped in for a beer. Stuffy , over rated , staff not engaged , was gonna have an anniversary dinner there but was only offered a 530 res by inexperienced hostess. Went to KANU. they cater to business folks, high end meetings.

A very fine dining experience. You pay quite a bit, and we believe you get what you pay for.

Dinner was ok. The food was good, but the prices were kinda steep for the quality food, service and ambiance received. It's a decent date place, but not super romantic. However, it is a nice view of the lake. I would skip breakfast here if you are ordering off the menu (i.e., not the buffet). It's overpriced, and the breakfast fare is nothing spectacular (although the fresh-squeezed orange juice is very good).

Best lamb I've had in my life. The staff was also fantastic. Would definitely go back!!

This was the best service we've ever got. Thanks to our waitress Chelsea for making this special occasion even more memorable. The food (market fish of the day which was a grilled wild sea bass) was perfect, as well as the vibe and the view of the restaurant. Definitely a must go in Lake Placid.

Good food and wine. Zero atmosphere. Dated dining room. My sister thought she should have been clutching at a set of pearls to fit in (had there been any ambience). Felt like a scene out of a 1920s movie (set for a bad soap opera). Pretentious yet very poor service. We had to ask the water boy for someone to come take our drink order, and then again ask to order our meals. Coming from NYC this place was nowhere near worth the prices they charge. Do have to give them credit though for honoring our anniversary with a nice complementary dessert and a framed photo - nice final touch.

They are in need of a new chef. The lake and mountain views are excellent. The menu needs to be redone. Traditional menu items should be offered as they were in the past. Diners should be offered what they like, not what the chef would like to showcase and show off his cleverness.

This is a very classy restaurant. The ambience for dinner is very calming. The menu is reflective of farm-to-table specials. I had the pan seared duck special which was served medium rare over a sweet potato purée with some grilled cauliflower. It was superb. My husband had a Caesar salad starter which he thought was the best Caesar salad he ever had (which is a high compliment coming from him). Then he had the trout entree which was delectable. My daughter had the braised venison which she absolutely loved. The service was outstanding! Melissa was great! I highly recommend this venue. Although the prices seem high, you certainly get what you pay for and that is high-end dining with a beautiful view.

Over-priced breakfast: We had breakfast at the View on a weekday. We had to wait 15 minutes before we got a seat. The view of the lake outside the windows is beautiful but the food is just so-so. There was only a small selection of food for a $20/person + tax breakfast. Food was really not impressive for the price, not very fresh or tasty. Won't try breakfast at the View again.

I can't imagine anyone having a bad or even mediocre experience here... simply outstanding. Had a nice, romantic evening at the View, complete with the most impeccable food and terrific service. The ambiance is perfect for a relaxing and romantic dinner. Toby, our server, was professional and personal, wonderful job! We will be back again and again! Worth every penny!!! The farm raised chicken and the venison were top notch..creme brulee was phenomenal... crab cakes will have us dreaming about them til next time!!!!

My husband and I were very disappointed with the food and service at the View. We were guests at the Mirror Lake Inn where the restaurant is located and had a made a reservation way in advance. But we waited for a half hour for our table. More importantly, the food was awful. The prices were so overpriced for the poor quality. The view is beautiful, but when it's dark, you do not see the lake view. The salad consisted of greens that tasted bitter and ill prepared. The dressing was scant. My husband had the fish of the day which was NOT fresh, tasted fishy and not at all good. I had the duck which tasted like chewy steak. The night before we ate at The Hungry Trout about 10 minutes away from Mirror Lake. While not as fancy as the View, the food was so good and fresh. It did have a great view of a babbling brook and the service was outstanding.

2.5 stars. Not as expected. The view of mirror lake from the table is fantastic, ambiance excellent, food average, presentation above average and service below average. Our water glasses, wine glasses and martini glass were empty the majority of the dinner. The server wasn't attentive at all. She appeared to be overworked with 5 tables occupied. She'd disappear for increments of 15 minutes. Typical 5 star restaurants have have servers work in teams with less tables to ensure precise service. We don't consider ourselves to be needy, but we do expect good and attentive service at a supposed AAA four diamond restaurant. The food...we each chose the Caesar salad for starters. It was ordinary. The dressing lacked the robust flavor you expect from Caesar dressing. I had ordered the free range chicken for my entree. The chicken was tender, but the flavor was odd. I wouldn't get it again. He had ordered the prime filet. It was also tender and all around average. Nothing exceptional. Our server brought us the dessert menu and after dinner drinks list, however, she didn't return for nearly 20 minutes. He was going to order the vintage scotch flight, and I had planned to order the Mirror Lake Inn coffee drink and creme brûlée, but we grew annoyed with the wait. When she finally came back, we asked for the bill and cashed out. All in all, it was not worth $200. The service is the main component that needs improvement. Their wine list is wonderful, however, complete with our favorite wineries in Napa where we are wine club members. Joseph Phelps and Charles Krug! This explains why they have won the wine spectator award. We are staying at the Mirror Lake Inn currently, and just expected more from the restaurant because every other aspect of the Mirror Lake Inn has been wonderful.

Not sure why the bad reviews. Went for dinner last night. Snowing, romantic and just perfect. The food was top notch. The service was top notch. Very pricey but you get what you pay for. A must go!

Every part was delicious. cocktail amazing. UNIQUE caesar salad and delicious. flounder to die for. Very romantic. quiet. peaceful. service attentive in the right way. (i was apprehensive at first b/c there was a weird odor at the hotel entrance (detergent + fishy... yuck)), but inside the restaurant and the meal were perfect. YUM. best meal in lake placid.

Ate there last night for my birthday. The service was outstanding, the view very nice and the food was excellent. We were there for a leisurely 2 1/2 hours and enjoyed it all. The pate and soup were very tasty and beautifully presented. We enjoyed the sorbet as a palate cleanser. The duck entree was outstanding. The chocolate tart came out with a candle in a piece of strawberry. Our server, Pierre took a picture of us which then arrived at our table in a pretty cardboard frame. Couldn't have asked for a better experience and worth the price.

we stayed at the inn for a few days. The pancakes were hands down the best I ever had. They were lightly crispy on the outside and fluffy inside! My husband and I thought they were wonderful. We went to dinner as well. It was good with a wonderful view and great warm staff!
