The last few times I've ordered from here I feel the quality has gone down. Or maybe I just got bored with their menu. Everything has a spicy mayo sauce. Since Tomo and Aji 53 now deliver to my house I have been ordering from either one of those places and find the fish to be much fresher and the menus far more interesting and diverse. Depending on my mood I think I would say I actually like Tomo over Aji 53.

Shiki is a wonderful little Japanese restaurant hidden in sort of a nondescript row of businesses on 25 in Smithtown. The parking and main entrance is actually in the back (make a right at the James Cress florist onto Bellemeade Avenue and left into the parking lot). We've been going now and again to Shiki for about ten years. The sauteed oysters are AMAZING and the main reason we keep coming back. They make them fresh and they have a terrific white wine and butter reduction with lemon over a carrot matchstick garnish. It has to be one of the greatest indulgences ever. We used to fight over they oysters, so now we each get an appetizer for ourselves. The sushi is also very good and fresh. They have a nice variety of specialty rolls and the prices aren't bad. I haven't had the non-sushi entrees in many years so I can't really comment on them. All in all, Shiki is a pretty good little place and has a loyal clientele, for good reason.

Shiki is a typical Sushi Restaurant. Prices are reasonable, food and service match what you pay for. They won't knock your socks off but you won't be disappointed either. It's a very intimate setting, It's clean, quiet and good quality. The parking is in the back. Don't bother parking across the street if you value your life. Traffic is insane! The fountain drinks are not free refills. Which was not always the case. The waitresses are not there to entertain, don't expect any lively conversation. It's a good restaurant, perfect for a friend date, but not really romantic one. It's been in that location since 94, although it's changed ownership. The previous owner staffed high quality staff. They used to have a german chef there who was rediculously talented. Now it's lost some of it's character that made it a special place to visit.

My mom had a groupon which is why we ended up here. The sushi was GREAT. When you walk into this place it is not impressive very casual, but the food is awesome. Very good sushi. The service was great and the good was awesome. Don't expect a fancy a restaurant just good sushi.

The old staff use to be better. The sushi chef and the tall waitress who was real friendly. Anyway, they change staffs very frequently so I'm assuming the kitchen chef has changed too. Overall, their food and service downgraded since I first went there in late 2013. Sashimi are thin and rolls aren't even wrapped tightly. Kristina M: Do tell me a place where you can get a salad for $2.50 that isn't full of iceberg lettuce. I would love to know because every Japanese restaurant I go to serves iceberg. At least Shiki has some spring mix on top.

Was pretty good sushi, just a bit pricey. I liked the simple soba soup and white tuna / yellowtail sashimi was fresh. I also ordered shrimp. Would like to see how their chirashi measures up next time.

Sushi I always hear a lot of good things about Shiki so eventually got in there to try it out. This is / was an old school sushi place - much, much smaller and more intimate than the sushi / hibachi palaces all over the place. Small tatami room in the rear. The servers are decent but not spectacular but they get the job done and do not hound you to order more drinks or appetizers, which was nice. Salad was standard fare. Choices of sushi specials was limited but I sort of like that as it shows some sort of focus on what they are doing. Sushi chef made a very nice little Amuse-bouche (not sure if they would call it that in Japanese though) which was very thoughtful. Sushi rolls were well made and the price was decent. Overall a solid sushi place bordering on how sushi used to be instead of the huge places they have become. Parking is a little hard to find behind the place- odd parking lot - just follow it to the end to find the rear entrance. Give it a shot.

Went to Shiki's a few yrs ago as I bought a gift card for a friend and they never used it so we went together. Now, I bought this card as I never thought I would be going there with my friend as I am a huge fan of "Kotobuki" and "Aji 53". I went with an open mind the place was very casual & I felt kind of dim which didn't excite me in the least so that set the tone for the rest of the dinner. I ordered a few ala carte sushi items and a tempura dinner. I was not crazy for either, however, my friend enjoyed his meal and said he would go back again. I'm assuming since I'm Japanese I have a higher standard than most when eating at a Japanese restaurant. But compare with "Aji 53" & "Kotobuki " there not even in the same league. They need to change the atmosphere & brighten up the place and perhaps the chef should go check out their competition down the road.

We paid a visit here because Takumi ran out of fish and Kotobuki, our Plan B, was packed. Their green salad is standard. The dressing tastes too much like orange juice. Also, they skim the top with spring mix to make it look more sophisticated. The remainder is iceberg. The salmon and avocado salad was a joke. 90% of it was iceberg lettuce; the 6 pieces of salmon sashimi were paper-thin. Our first two options for Japanese restaurants are more generous with the protein for the same price--MAYBE one dollar more. Their Yaki Soba was satisfying, although the soba noodles themselves were overcooked. The sautéed oysters? False advertisement, for they are deep-fried. Although tasty, my partner and I have sensitive stomachs with deep-fried fare. The service is alright. There's not much more to elaborate on with that. The place was empty and our waitress was still a little slow. Overall, there's potential but I can see why people may visit Aji 53 across the street. Just take the extra ten minutes to drive and support Takumi.

Just got home from there and it just didn't do it for me. Food was bland and they could have used another person on wait staff. They were very friendly and nice, food was presented nice but no flavor.

I love this place...it's one of my favorite Japanese restaurants ... But I have noticed lately they do not have enough wait staff during the week and i overheard the customers other complaining about that... I think they need to address this...4 stars for food 2 for service

This place is wonderful. I would have never tried it if it wasn't for my mother's repeated suggestions. It is on the main street strip and somehow can be easily missed. From the outside, it doesn't look like anything very special and seems pretty run down. But the inside is small, nicely decorated, and clean. I cannot stress enough how unbelievable their sauteed oysters are. If you're from the area, you may know that Kotobuki claims to have the "best sauteed oysters on the island" but they are wrong. My boyfriend and I did our own taste test and, hands down, Shiki won the competition. We even dipped out sushi rolls in the leftover white wine/butter sauce (and full disclosure- drank the sauce off the plate. I'm not even sorry, it was worth the embarrassment). Their sushi rolls are pretty standard but they do have a large selection, with good weekly specials. Can't lie to you and say they are earth-shattering, but I do genuinely like them. Prices are very reasonable, and you won't be disappointed.

The best sushi in town! Very friendly staff, very good food. Small restaurant but never have to wait for a table as they have decent turnover. Mt Fuji roll is the best!

I wanted to love this place, I really did. The first time I loved it - couldn't wait to go back. The second time however, the food was tasteless and dry, almost embarassing for me since I had bragged about the joint to my friends and this second time, I got it with them.

Go to Shiki and order a bunch of rolls. They'll taste ok. The fun part comes with the tab. You can argue with them for hours when your bill comes because they won't charge you the advertised price. The reason is because the "price of sushi has gone up" between the time you ordered your rolls and the time they write up your tab. Leave in your "big boss car" all pissed off and next time take the time drive to Kotobuki, Benten, Sapporo, or Azuma.

Had miso soup, shrimp tempura appetizer, and chirashi (dinner) for lunch yesterday and it was a good lunch. The place is small (7-8 tables + sushi bar), clean, and quiet in noise and decor. The miso soup is ok (not salty and decent amount of tofu and spinach). The shrimp tempura had 3 shrimps and 3 vegetables (I felt the shrimps could have been bigger and the broccoli seemed out of place in taste and didn't fit in) with an ok-batter that's not greasy and not too heavy but could have been a little lighter. The chirashi was not in a bowl (never had it on a plate before since it's supposed to be "...on a bed of rice") but I felt the portions were a little small, especially for a dinner item. The raw fish were good though, tasted fresh and no funky smell or taste. The service was prompt and nothing special really. He didn't refill my water and I didn't bother asking. Overall, it was a decent-to-good experience and the prices are decent also. I will probably come back to try the fried oysters (which a couple reviewers are raving about).

I went here a few times years back; unfortunately the current version of Shiki is a pale version of what it once was. Back then, my Japanese friend and I went there and were satisfied with the dishes, which would have garnered 4 stars. Now, things are different. Between the service and the food, 2 stars is all I can muster. Their Philly roll had a minuscule amount of salmon, unsmoked. Adding avacado instead of scallion or cucumber made it worse. Their sukiyaki was middling at best. It seemed that smaller and less palatable portions of ingredients were used. The broth wasn't really up to par. The edamame they gave at the start? Seemed like it came right out of the bag, cold. The salad was weak as well, and the service was middling overall. My friends often order out from Shiki. The orders are usually very late, and either misinterpreted or just not great. I honestly have been disappointed.

I can't say enough good things about Shiki. This place has never once failed to amaze me. The staff is so nice, the food is incredible and the menu won't disappoint. I give it 5 stars because no matter what they will accommodate you. Want a private room with only 2 people? Done. Cozy atmosphere, nice dining room and as for the sushi chefs- the sky is the limit for what they can do. I come here at least once every month and I couldn't recommend it highly enough. Come with family, friends, alone, doesn't matter. Shiki deserves a lot more praise.

The sushi is good, fresh, and cheap. Their is fast service and a good lunch menu 3 rolls, and a soup or salad. I like to split the 3 rolls with They also have the bento boxes. It's a great cheap deal for lunch it's just the rolls are very simple on the lunch menu. If you get the more complicated rolls the price will raise to the average cost of sushi. I really do like this place and it's just as good as Kotobuki, the other good sushi place out here on long island. Just don't get a dessert, they aren't bad but truthfully it's not worth the extra $5. Also they do take- out and free deliver if it's over $20! P.S. Parking is in the back, there's a whole lot and an entrance for the restaurant... it's right behind the florist on the block.

Keep your Kotobuki peoples ( yelp.com/biz/kotobuki-ja… ), cause the Shiki Japanese Restaurant is freakin' unreal.

My wife and I eat lunch here most every Saturday, and are very pleased with the food, the prices, and the quality of service. Their sushi rolls are great; mostly fish with very little rice. Prices on the luch menu are squarely in the bargain category as well. We've tried this place, Kotobuki, and Hotoke, and like Shiki the best of the three. Definitely recommended!
