High Cholesterol at Applebee's

Well, steaks and ribs go hand in hand with cholesterol. Being their signature dish, it will be a challenge to find low-calorie, healthy food for those concerned with their cholesterol levels. However, you can always opt for their salads and other light foods to keep the cholesterol in check.

While the salads and soups sound healthy, you must skip the Fiesta Chopped Salad and Loaded Potato Soup at Applebee's. Okay I am going to warn you now, if you do not like meat this is not the place for you, also the decor isn't the greatest BUT all their food is amazing. Its a small resturant, its not up scale at all, but you feel like you just arrived back home with the food and music they play. The BEST Chicharones EVER ever ever.. MUST try with some Yuca and onions. Sometimes I think they put crack on those onions because they are amazing. The chicharones de pollo ( fried chicken) is also the best I have ever had. It kicks Popeyes and KFC in the behind. The seasoning is just amazing. This is a Typical Dominican cuchy Frito (like a friend food spot). The empandas ( they have them of yuca or patelitos which are made of flour) are also good and so are the quipes. Any time I have an event I always order my food from here, because its just the best for finger food very popular among Dominicans and many Caribbeans. So if your in Corona or are just craving some good greasy food THIS IS the SPOT. Take that 7 train to 103rd street and walk towards 39th ave you will see there green awning The CABANA. Love it!

Was driving from JFK to NJ & I wanted to try some great latin food in this area. Yelp showed me La Cabana & it's great reviews. They were right. Using the reviews I ordered the Chicharones Mofongo & the Chicharones with Yuca. Wow!! They both were great. I had Mofongo in Puerto Rico & it was heavy on plantains. This was heavy on Chicharones, which was fine by me. The Chicharones were delicious. With Yuca they were big fatty meaty pieces. If you ever had Chicharones & love them you will love it here. Terribly unhealthy stuff but when you gotta have it this is the place to go.

Hands down #1 mofongo in all of New York. When you walk through this hole-in-the-wall during lunchtime (and even on off-hours) you will see locals and plenty of Dominican folk munching away on chicharron, yucca, and platanos. The staff speaks very little English so you might want to brush up on your spanish! My go-to is the mofongo de chicharron, served with those sweet pickled red onions on the side. Mofongo is basically seasoned crushed plantains with garlic and oil, alongside the crispy, meaty chicharron makes for a really good meal. It's a bit oily, but who cares about that!

  • Tom C.

I was truly expecting a spectacular lunch with the 4 1/2 stars overall rating. Sadly, the chicharonne (sp.) was dry, but more importantly, it was salty as heck! I had to use the like to give it any semblance of "juiciness"... The fries were plain old fries...nothing to write home about. Would I come here again? Maybe...doubtful... Was it horrible? Not at all... It was just ok in my humble opinion.

  • David W.

First time to try Dominican food, but I feel disappointed because this tasty is not good as the reviews' descriptions. I order the mofoogon, a mixed of roast pork belly and yam. However, this is too dry, hard and tasteless, the side is sour onion, the taste is special, but I still don't like it. Because it is my first time to try, and I am not a fan of sour food , so I think the restaurant is ok. ,

Love this place. There chicken mofongo is the best. Place is small I am 34 and been coming here since I was 8 definitely recommend this gem

  • Rinceli M.

This place isn't what it use to be. But still is a good dominican spot. People mainly come here for their monfongo or their chicharones. Their monfongo is soooo filling it's full of amazing red onions. I wish they would sell Moro or batata frita. I would recommend this spot to anyone just don't come on a diet lol.

  • Paola M.

I've been going to la Cabaña since I was born! This used to be my favorite spot, friendly staff, fresh food!! No complains-- it seems they changed owners and have become more popular. Their prices have gone up... For fritura (fried Dominican food) as being in corona they're too pricey. On another note their food isn't as fresh as it used to be, the food seems to be days and days old. I guess they have their days but the last couple of times I've gone , I was disappointed.

  • Phil M.

I'm giving this place 5 stars for their mofongo! I've had mofongo at plenty of other places but this one was like no other. It was moist and had some really good pork cracklin in it plus the yuca was the best I ever tasted. I had to order a side of chicharron de cerda for only $5 because the pork cracklin was so good. Other items on the menu sound so good as well. I'll have to try them next time. The place looked deceiving. I didn't expect them to have good seating or tables in there but I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of tables and just how the place is set up since the outside waa nothing to write home about. The staff is pleasant and took care of me really good even though I don't speak anything but English. I didn't have a problem getting what I ordered. I will definitely be back here to get that mofongo. Best in NY!!

  • Christine L.

Went here to try some Dominican food since it had great reviews. The place was busy, tables were almost full but we found a seat. Order was taken and we waited (ordered 4 wings and chicharron). We waited and waited. We saw people who came in after us get their food first. We waited some more and just got up and left. Will not be coming back (it was just the 2 of us).

  • Suzi X.

My BF and order the mofongo, chicharron, tostones, y maduras. We also ordered an extra order for leftovers. We paid $27. It was enough food for two days. Everything was delicious. My BF is Dominican and he was extremely pleased.

  • Gio A.

The chicharron de pollo is pure crack! I swear you've never eaten fried chicken like this. What is even better tho is the mofongo! I've had a lot of mofongo in Queens, but this place blows the others out of the water, the mofongo here is so soft and flavorful, nothing in the world compares to it. I would go here just for the mofongo. The clientele was all local, we didn't hear a word of ingles in here, that's how you know the food is legit! The service was also pretty quick, considering that the place was overflowing with people. The prices too, 30 dollars worth of food is easily enough to share with four people. Best Dominican food in Queens, you heard it!

  • Teresa S.

I attempted to buy some of their famous chicharron de pollo but they've tried to play this non Spanish speaking young lady. It's a fairly small restaurant and there was a long line with most people ordering to go. I tried to figure out what to order via yelp because there was no English menu. I knew I wanted the chicken but I didn't know what it came with and NONE of the staff spoke English. The worker told me the chicken alone was $8. I asked a customer who spoke English and he explained the combo came with yucca and sautéed onions which is what he ordered and he paid $10. When it was my turn to order again, the cashier told me my order was $10 just for the chicken. By then all the cooks behind the counter were looking and laughing as I attempted to ask him why my order was $10 with no sides. He didn't care he just shook his head and said no $10. I happily closed my purse and walked out. There are way too many Latino food spots in the area for them to try and jip me. I definitely won't return here and if you don't speak Spanish make sure you know what you're getting and the actual price. Not cool!

  • Rosy R.

I've been coming here for years. Chelin (the chubby guy who's always at the register) is a family friend and he always makes sure we get the best service when we arrive. The employees are great regardless. Super fast service. It is small though. On busy weekends, you might have to wait for a table. The mofongo de chicharron are the best thing on the menu tbh

  • Luis M.

Yo I don't even know how to start this review as nothing i'd write would describe how off the chain this spot is, if u live around the area and haven't been here yet I don't know what u have been doing with your life. This lil hole in the wall stays pack, all day errday, well maybe not in the morning, cant seem to imagine anyone having chicharron con yuca for breakfast but then again they also have other goodies, anyways they have a decent dinning area, cant accommodate to a big party but then again u don't need everyone and their momma to come with u in order to have some deliciousness. As i tell everyone that knows me, i stick to what works and thats their yuca and chicharron de cerdo, wife always wants maduros as well so we throw it in the mix as well, they are extremely consistent with the way they cook it, no surprises, no let downs... U go in, order, wait 5 to 10 mins and boom ready to take home and savage the whole plataso. I take it to go as I need the comfort of my home to GO IN!!!

  • Khalid B.

Don't have much more to add than others have stated. Yes the best chicharron I have ever had. Good prices, quick service and everything is delicious

    (5)
  • Amy C.

I love this place!!! The best chicharron ever whether it be pork or chicken, it delicious. The place is nice, small and they serve the food on paper plates. Nothing fancy just great food. You pick your beverage from the fridge like you were at home. Great music great food great atmosphere. Enjoy!!!

  • Nelson A.

This Hole-in-the wall type typical Dominican spot is the Bomb, but only for one dish. The Pork Chicharron (fried chunks of Pork skin) is their specialty. Served with Yuca (boiled Cassava) and pickled red onions is the best way to have it. Unfortunately, the rest of the menu is lacking. My friend was upset that rice and beans were not available, nor was there any garlic mojo for the Tostones. Yet he enjoyed the dish as presented. Therefore, if you're in Corona Queens and want an excellent fried pork dish, enjoy! You'll be pleased. And go ahead have it with a cold Corona or Presidente, you probably deserve it!

    (3)
  • Tina B.

The food here is addictive. The mofongo is the best anywhere. If you go here forget about your diet. But it is worth it. Everything is fried. You can have a cold beer with your order. This is another spot I visit when I come home.

    (5)
  • Kay V.

This place has the best mofongo around. I truthfully only hesitated to give this place 5 stars and stuck with 4 is because I've been going to his place for many years but as their clientele seems to grow they have stayed in the same small location but this will never affect how great there mofongo is, let's not forget about the yuca (Cassava) and fried pork! Delicious!!!

    (4)
  • Marcia S.

Don't be alarmed by the ambiance its a hole in the wall mom and pop place, but everyone seemed to be regulars. We had the chicharron de Pollo and mofongo, both of which were great!

    (5)
  • Emely M.

Hands down the best mofongo in NYC, and this is coming from a mofongo enthusiast! Their version is perfectly seasoned with chunks of chicharrones throughout it, and pickled red onions on the side. Their other entrees and sides are delicious as well. Most of the staff doesn't speak English but that's not too much of an issue for me, this place is definitely worth the trek IMO, it's located right off of the 7 train on 103rd at in the heart of Corona.

    (5)
  • Jonalys C.

They are most famous for their mofongo which I absolutely love! Its perfectly garlicy and the meat in it so delicious. Some days it comes out better than others (meaning when its softer and more moist). But its always delicious. Their yucca is awesome a very well made dish. I have gotten just about everything on their menu and I love it. Being Dominican and knowing this is what traditional Dominican food should taste like is awesome! Greasy and delicious!! Lol definitely a place to try out

    (4)
  • AC C.

Only five stars because I could not give it 10. Yelp does not allow it. Best Mofongo in NYC. Boricua's, we need to step our game up. This little DR spot can make a Mofongo. I'm from Chicago and will be a frequent customer whenever I'm in NY!!!!

    (5)
  • Gilberto M.

People rave about this place I had not idea what they are talking about. The food was not good at all very average I order the BBQ chicken with Yuca, my friend order the fried chicken with tostones both were very dry also had a quipe real bad also if you are trying to loose weight do not go to this place pretty much everything is fried and greese. So stay away.

    (1)
  • Michelle T.

The place may not look like the fanciest restaurant but the food is delicious. They make one of the best mofongo with chicharron ever topped with red onions. Also their chicharrones de pollo are so good! It's typical Dominican fried foods but always made with great seasoning. This place is usually packed so if you plan on sitting down you might want to get ready to wait for a table. There isn't a lot of room either but you can tell they do a good since since the place is always filled with people. That would be why I rated it 4 stars versus 5. I haven't had a bad experience with my food and refuse to eat mofongo anywhere else ! They have different types of mofongo so if pork is that for you , not to worry ! There's always something good to eat.

  • Cynthia L.

Please don't come here on a diet. Straight up fried foods that are tasty like WHAT. Order at the counter and then take a seat, your food will be arriving shortly. I was quite surprised to see a bunch of men (very handsome) behind the counter. I was thinking it would be nice abuelitas types but hey it really just made my day seeing all these macho men behind the stove aka fryers. It helps if you speak Spanish, I received some nice compliments (flirting haha) after ordering. Yelp did not fail me. An order of tostones, yuca, mofongo con chicharron and baked chicken. Carb overload but totally worth it. My body can only handle so much mofongo (1x/year I say) but here it was very tasty with the pickled onions. The chicharron of course was very rich. I just wished they added a bit more. There was enough food for me to take to lunch for myself and the hubs. Come try if you are in the neighborhood and want some no frills Dominican food. I told my colleagues, many who grew up in Corona about this place and they went on and on about how legendary it is. La Cabana lived up to it's reviews!

  • Annalise H.

Came here based on the yelp reviews on the mofongo. Ordered a mofongo with chicharron to go and we thought it was just ok.

  • Karolina B.

Went to this place today based on all the hype. So many people said it was soooooo good. I decided to give it another try because last time I went I got chicharones and they sucked. They had no crunch to them at all and had more fat on them that meat. So I went in and ordered mofongo con chicharones con cebolla. Came home fast and was disappointed once again. Once again no crunch that you expect when you freaking eat chicharon. EVEN MY DOMINICAN MOTHER IN LAW SAID THIS TASTED LIKE MIERDA (shit) She asked me why I didnt go to LA CARNIDAD I asked myself that same question. Cuz I was too lazy to walk all the way to Northern Blvd I don't think my fellow yelpers have had real good mofongo or chicharron. I have had some delicious chicharon in my life (in the Bronx)and this place doesn't even compare.

  • Elisandra O.

Love this place if you are looking for fancy tableware and fancy interior just turn around and walk out. They know what they are doing here when it comes to food. The food is always good, the mofongo is off the hook they never disappoint. I've had Yuca with chicharon before and it was very good as well. They have Country Club as well. I give them two thumbs up for my Dominican antojitos!

  • Angie B.

I was really craving mofongo while visiting my aunt so I pull this place up on yelp & lead the way. Street parking was okay, the place is narrow and deep. If you are looking for Puerto Rican mofongo that sits in the broth, this is not your place. The mofongo here is served on a plate w pickled red onion and they will give you hot sauce if you like. Btw. If you have no clue what I am talking about, google mofongo. It's a heap of plantains that have been sliced, partially fried, then mashed up with your fav meat (pork, chicken, seafood), garlic, olive oil and formed into a peak of awesomeness. A comfort food... I'll do more searching for the original thing when I go back. We were on a tight schedule & didn't want to drive to Brooklyn. Best one i ever had was in Arecibo Puerto Rico at a food truck. It was a lobster mofongo served in a tiny pot w seafood broth around it!!!

    (3)
  • Carolyn L.

We came here for the mofongo, my very first time trying it, and it was awesome. It was extremely oily but that was probably what made it taste so wonderful. The portion was generous and the pickled onions went very well with it. The tangy taste of the onions cut through the grease of the mofongo. Simply love the fried pork rinds (very similar to the Chinese roast pork belly skin with its crispiness). The place itself is pretty basic, no frills and no pretenses. Just serving homely good food.

    (4)
  • Kay W.

It was my first visit & I just loved it!! The chicharrones were amazing!! The staff were soo friendly, the overall ambience was good & welcoming. I would definitely go back for some more chicharrones!! You gotta try their onion, it was soo good!!

  • Jen Jen A.

Best Mofongo ever !! I had the mofongo de chicharron is so delicious the caramelized red onions men!! Also the yuca Frita is really good the food is fresh out nice and warm too love to eat here . Even tho I move and not close I still take the drive to to pick up some really good food

    (4)
  • Jenny G.

Small mom & pop type of restaurant , the staff is welcoming and there is usually music playing in the background! Hands down BEST YUCCA MOFONGO!!!!! It's perfectly mashed yucca & chicharron topped with red onions. Go for it,you'll be hooked! All those who I have referred to this place;truly enjoy it! GO FOR IT!

  • Jonathan R.

If you want to eat healthy not good tasting food plz don't come here. I come here for unhealthy fried dominican goodies that taste so good, I wish I could eat here everyday and have yuca with chicharron. I still haven't found a place that makes better chicharron than la cabaña. This chicharron is so crispy, tasty and juicy it's amaZing. My friend ordered tostones (fried plantains) with longaniza (Dominican style sausage).

    (5)
  • Tania C.

Great dominican food. My favorite is the chicaron de pollo (fried chicken pieces) & Mofongo ( mashed plantains) w/ red onions. Its not a huge restaurant nor is it fancy and they serve the food in a paper plate. Quick clean up I guess lol BUT you will not be disappointed. If your thirsty try the Presidente beer. Doninican beer. Mmmmmmm yum!!

    (4)
  • Ahmed A.

This is a Dominican style fast food spot if there is such a thing. Their chicken is very good but a bit greasy. So, those that are on diets be warned. They have different types of plantains including Fritos and maduros; both are good. I was upset they didn't have rice and beans. I have never been to a Dominican restaurant that didn't serve rice and beans. If I am in the area I will stop be for some good chicken.

I love this place ... my boyfriend brought me here one sunday afternoon and all i can say is that its great. We had chicharonnes de pollo( chicken) Y cerdo (pork) platanos ( tostones & maduros) as well . You can't go wrong with this place it's so tasty

This is my place to go when I am craving fatty greasy Dominican food. I mean, this place is a hole in the wall, paper plates, blasting bachata and tipico... but that food is seriously out of this world!!! Carne frita with yucca , the chicharrones, and the pork mofongo are sooooo delicious. I ordered a whole roasted suckling pig from them last year and it was a hit. Everybody loved it. Great food, friendly staff, authentic food and cheap prices.

  • Marvin G.

4 stars. Just for the fact that the food is super oily & greasy, But that's how dominican food is. Well for a huge part of it. If you want real traditional dominican food come here for sure ! You won't regret it. Fried morcilla Mofongo Just thinking of that my mouth watered. Come here and you won't regret it for sure.

  • Yael R.

Great food, prices are very reasonable and they even have high chairs. One problem: the bathroom. The ladies room was locked so I had to visit the men's....I wish I didn't. The place was super dirty and made me wonder about the overall safety of eating in this location.

  • Marina C.

Very greasy, but tasty food. We got what everyone else was ordering - The Chicharron con yuca y cebollas... I ate most of the yuca and onions and only sampled one piece of the chicharron since I can't really handle too much oily food. The yuca was seasoned nicely, it tends to be somewhat bland normally. The pickled red onions were marinated with lots of garlic which gave it a nice flavor. I actually ate the chicharron cold since we took it to go and walked all the way back home. It's better than any of the chicharrones sold at the Colombian places in the area. I'll definitely try the mofongo next time if I ever decide to walk that far to Corona.

  • Rudolfo A.

The food is great cant find another walk thru service with food this good around that area. Most of the time theres a line but for good reason there is and the control the flow of people in a organized way which i applaud them for .... No wonder this place has been open since i was a baby

This little hole in the wall spot located right off Roosevelt avenue is very well known all around queens and even uptown manhattan. This spot has the best fried Dominican food you will ever find in queens. The prices are really good and u get what u pay for. I always get the mofongo , which is green plantains with fried pork mixed into a ball. My husband likes to pick a different thing every time we go because everything is just so delicious . We split everything and for $20 we are full almost all day. I wouldn't recommend eating there even though they are always packed because the place is very small and tight. The wait , even on the weekends is always fairly fast . Def a "take out" place. If ur ever in the mood for some inexpensive .. Delicious... Dominican food, this is definitely the go to place.

YUMMY! We stopped by on Sunday night to pick up some quick fast food since we were in the area and Yelp led me here. We loved it. It's a tiny shop, so we got the food to go. The food was delicious. I ordered Mofongo de pollo (Mashed plantain with chicken) and picked onions and chicharones de pollo (deep fried chicken chunks) con maduro (sweet plantain). The food bag felt light when I picked it up and I was worried it wouldn't be enough for 2 people, but it was. I did squeeze a lime on the chicharones that added to the flavor and used a little hot sauce I had in the fridge with the mofongo. I will ask them for some hot sauce next time. We paid about $19. We are definitely gonna go back. Maybe this time I will try the mofongo de chicharones and get the best of both worlds. P.S. It didn't hurt that there was a Dominican cutie behind the register that night. ;)

OUTSTANDING ! ! ! It's not the healthiest option for dinner, but if you are looking for traditional latin food with a ton of flavor then this is your spot. Priced right too; but remember to not order too much. Beyond the fact of how unhealthy it is, the servings are huge (really huge). We ordered food for 4 people to go; once we opened the containers at the house we realized we easily had enough food for another couple to join the feast. I live in South Florida and just like New York, we have a huge latin population. With all those cuban, dominicans and puerto ricans we have in South Florida you can find some amazing latin eateries but "Mofongo" is a hard find (and it happens to be something we love). The Mofongo offered by La Cabana is above and beyond anything I have found in Florida; simply Ah-May-Zing ! ! ! The yuca and pork are damn good too but the chicken was far from perfect (super dry... quite the let down). The guys behind the counter are upbeat and enthusiastic; cracking jokes from the moment you enter until you are ready to head out. Keep it up guys.

Food wasn't that good. Plantains were clearly not fresh. To add insult to injury, it is more expensive than most places. I've had way better mofongo in the city and for much less.

Best Mofongo in New York, I sample other places that look a little better and they always not as good when I compare them, the problem here is kind of loud and the fancy girl in me can't believe I even eat here is a grease spoon plain & simple 95% off the food here is deep fat fried but everything is so so delicious, if you like mofongo you have to come and try this place.

As good as Dominican food gets. It seriously a piece of the island. Every time I'm in New York it's a must to stop here for lunch with my family. It isn't the healthiest but it's delicious.

Warning: They either refuse to or can't speak English. The good- everything looked fresh (you could see them bring meat out from the kitchen), lots of tables, the mofongo was tasty, and the sweet plantains were also pretty good. The bad- the chicharones de cerdo (pork rinds) were disappointing (not enough meat, and super greasy... though I guess that's to be expected). The guy working the register was also pretty rude to us.

Carne frita, tostones, y mucha ceboya. Fried beef, plantains with a lot of unions. See now you can order in Spanish, who needs rosetta stone! Been eating at this place my entire life. Classic Corona Spot. Been here back when Corona was a Dominican neighborhood.

My all time favorite place to eat. This is Dominican fried food heaven. I save my cheat days just to come here and yes, I happily make the drive because the mofongo, chicharrones, yuca, and onions are THAT good. This place looks like a hole in a wall but do not be fooled. Greatness exists behind those walls. I'll be back this week.

Dined here last night with 4 other carnivores. Fried calamari was good but was the highlight of the meal as the mixed grill and steak were not impressive but the sides were decent. The meat was a little under-seasoned and I was tempted to ask for hot sauce. The server was also less than enthusiastic but I don't know if that's because we actually asked him to do his job and take our order. Gave this place a shot due to the ratings and reviews on here but I wouldn't guarantee a return visit. If I/ we do, would definitely order something else next time around. Wouldn't dissuade anyone from checking it out but think twice about the items (calamari aside) we ordered if you like tasty meat dishes.

Got my Chicharron fix here. The best. The place is small, but offers table service. Been here twice so far. I'm sure my doctor won't like it, but I sure do. Crunchy pork goodness. Go here.

I have been going to this place for years and the food is AMAZING!!!! I've had Mofongo in DR, Washington Heights, and my moms kitchen and this is the BEST. The chicharones are great. Leave your diet at the door and indulge!

If you really want to get a taste as to what true Dominican food taste like, this is the spot to go. You know you can find the best tasting food in all of Corona. Their mofongo are great. Great garlic flavor, lots of meat... you can't go wrong with it. They sell everything from mofongo to Quipe. Their prices have been steadily raising over the last couple of years but its worth it. Great place to bring your family, friends and those who are Dominican food virgins. I swear the prepare their onions perfectly. I can eat a bowl of their onions that is how good they are. I know people who don't eat onion unless if its from this place. The chicharron is also really good. I've been going to this place for over 5 years and I have never been disappointed after eating here. If you're counting calories, this is not the place for you .If you want to get your mind blown, come over here.

Never had a mofongo before but it was really good. A bit oily but i guess thats how mofongos are meant to be. Their fried chicken is very good and its very affordable. Six pieces for $6, cheaper than kfc.

I've been coming here for years as a kid with my dad, now I bring my sons. Our favorites are chicharrones con yuca, the quipes, and of course the mofongo. Forget your diet and try it all. Everything on the menu is delicious.

OOHH man, I could eat their mofongo de chicharron every day if I didn't think it would stop my heart; even though it might be worth the risk. delicious. DO NOT skip the pickled onions. I've never actually seen the restaurant, just had a co-worker pick up for us a number of times... but I honestly don't think I care how it looks.

Solid Dominican foodstuff. Great chich, but better at Tipico Dominicano around the corner - which definitely has a homier feel. Plantain rellenos were great. These things are hardened on the outside, then its glistening goodness on the inside. Say yes. This place is very popular, which means fresh. The men behind the counter mean business, so that is good. I thought the food, however, was just passable and didn't slap me in the face - which I was hoping for. I love food from DR, but I'm looking for another source. (I can be persuaded to come back if you have a plan.)

As an asian I can associate with latin food- and not just cuz of the rice. Its mainly due to the fact that ppl group latin foods together when each individual culture has its own distinct style. Its like walking into a puerto rican place for tacos, or a korean place for spring rolls. Anyways in case u didnt kno this place is the mothaflickin bommmmb You come here for the chicharron and stay for the yucca. The chick at the counter likes to ask me chicken or pork? Girl, PLEASE. I give her the illlest staredown. "Ay this chinito be bugg-in!" Cuz she knows its pork all da way. She doesnt even have to ask fries or whatever cuz its yucca, extra onions and like 6 limes. Yeaaa this is how we do. French fries? Save that for the tourists, babygirl. If u dont know what chicharron is, go slap yoself right NOW. Its a slab of pork bacon (similar to ssamgyupsal, for those that kno korean) but untrimmed, deep fried and crisp. And here they do it right, dominican style. Its not the measly chicharron that comes w the cuban breakfast platter with an avocado half; these are fist sized slabs fresh out the fryer waiting to be cooled by fresh squeezed lime and hotsauce. The yucca here is nice soft and moist too. You can get the mofongo, which is awesome here- id say if this mofongo was somewhere else, itd be the best. But why would u go for mofongo when theres the best chicharron n yucca in front of u?! location is alright....Its right by the 7stop near the pharmacy that used to be a X-rated theater back when this hood was real rough

My parents have a been here before and then one day they took me with them. It's like a fast food to me sort of, like a Chinese take out, fresh fast food. But it's pretty good. It's like home cooking. This place is good for a small group of 3 or 4. We shared the chicken, french fries, tostones, and my mom and i shared a potato stuffed with beef filling...which my dad said they used to serve a much bigger potato before. I guess with everything getting expensive, they just slightly lessen the portion size to keep everything at the same price. Still pretty good size though and good food. It's home food, comfort food, not some fancy food. Good for it's value. Overall we paid about 20 bucks for our food and three beverages and were stuffed. -------------------------------------------------------------------- My delicious blog!! A solid Dominican...place. In spanish we have a few words. Puerto Ricans call em a "cuchifrito". Dominicans say "Fritura". Although the words aren't found in dictionaries, the point is this. These are the places that make those fried goodies your moms only makes when there's company coming and there's either a holiday or a damn good party. - Pastelitos (known to most other cultures as "empanadas") - Mofongo (gotta be tried to be believed) There's is a platano base with some yuca I believe and they add tostones. They have one with everything but the kitchen sink, ham, chicharron, chicken, pork...comes with lots of pickled red onions (you want the onions, trust me) you see the guy marching out with a shaped mass of plantainy goodness in a steel bowl coming from the back, and you know it's coming back your way on a plate any second. - Fried chicken - Chicharron (spanish style pork rinds) - Any fried version of potatoes, plantains, yuca (cassava if you rep the motherland) - papa rellena (a potato filled with deliciousness of your choice) If you know dominicans...they probably have fried cheese, fried salami to go with mangu and all that. I had fried chicken and fries last night. They have a big sliding door cooler with beer, soda. OH BTW they remodeled the place, with nicer tables, paint, two tvs. It's a small place but enjoytable. Right off the 7 line 103rd stop...like 25 feet away. HOLLA
