If you are gunna come here - try to come during the summer dinner specials monday - thursday. 2 dinners with unlimited salad bar for $30. Thats the plus. Waiter staff was friendly too. We came here with 8 people to celebrate two birthdays. I called in advance and asked if we were allowed to bring in our own birthday cake. They allwoed it but charged $5. I feel that is poor accomodations considering we are bringing in so much business - especially since everyone was having bar drinks too! Food was ok. The salad bar has a lot of toppings which is nice. Dinners were OK - reminds of a place for old people to go.

Place has not changed in years, But, please don't ever change because it is perfect. Have not been there in years, which I now regret. First off service was excellent. Everything was perfect. Food was awesome. Prime Rib and steaks were very good. I ordered a special seafood dish that was offered that evening. It was excellent. Wait staff gets an A+ What a perfect evening

Extremely overpriced for only decent food. $20 for chicken Marsala and a baked potato

Went there last night and didn't have a reservation. Hostess told us 45 minutes. Not a problem, so we went to the bar. We were greeted within adequate time and served our drinks. When it came to getting a refill, that's where the trouble began. There were 2 bartenders, and 4 people at the bar. While I realize they get drinks for the servers, there were still two of them and we were never offered a refill. We did ask, after my husband's beer was empty for 10 minutes. The service was just ridiculous. We never did sit at a table, we were both so mad. We left and went somewhere that was worth the wait. Sad, because I love the fire place in the winter..but we will never be back.

First of all.....NEVER GO THERE WITH A GROUPON COUPON! And they make you let them know when you make a reservation. Not good. We did exactly as told to and arrived for a early dinner on this Sat night. We looked for the steak mentioned on line in their menu but when we ordered it, the price was jacked up a lot! Surprise! We ordered it anyway. It was my birthday celebration as I had been sick on the day and could not go on that day. The salad bar was fine. We enjoyed it. From there it all went down hill. We ordered drinks and had to beg for more over and over. Mainly ignored. The steak was not cheap, but flavorless, and for medium was overcooked. Fries were frozen and tasteless. The couple next to us got a huge free birthday desert with a candle in it. I did not even get a cookie. And the waiter keep congratulating me on my years. Really? He ignored us the whole meal. The noise level was horrific and made impossible for any conversation. Gave us a headache trying to hear each other. We usually give huge tips....and if given even a cookie for a birthday...we give 25 percent. We tipped a little over 15 percent which ended up being a lot considering the horrible service and dry sad food. Guaranteed we shall never return. We could have gone to old Applebees for the two for twenty deal and got great food and a steak cooked perfect, juicy and flavorful and they always ask if we think it is OK. And got friendly service and probably a nice cookie or better for a birthday. Never again! And if you have a coupon, you are already dead in the water at this sad place.

Nice warm atmosphere with a somewhat clueless staff. We were seated right away by a rather stressed out looking hostess. The restaurant was mildly busy but nothing crazy. The cocktail waitress stopped by but did not seem to know what was on tap so I said I would have a scotch. I told her I didn't know what the offerings were and she stared blankly at me. You would think a place called scotch and sirloin would have a menu showing what they had. My wife and I each ordered steaks. I got the special medium rare. I got about a fourth of the way through when I realized that the steak was pretty much uncooked throughout the thicker portions. I would have had them just throw it back on the grill for a bit but our waiter did not come by for at least 10 minutes. My wife had finished her meal by the time he stopped over. I showed him the inside of the steak. "Wow, that's not right" he said. He took it away and came back moments later telling me he would take half of that steak off the bill. I am not a complainer so I said that would be fine although I felt I shouldn't have to pay for something I did not eat. He then said I could take the rest home and cook it. Great. Salad bar was good but most of the containers were practally empty. My wife enjoyed her whole meal but was distracted by the fact I could not eat my steak. I did notice two others have steaks taken back as well.

Cocktails ok, food is high priced, ingredients seem low quality. Stuffed banana peppers, meh, with soggy toast. Chicken Cordon Bleu--tasted starchy, and low quality ham and cheese, meh! Snapper oscar, the crab was fishier than the fish...sub par food, but servers were nice

I have came here a few times, each and every time the food was great! Totally recommend the top sirloin. They also have an all you can eat salad bar which isn't too shabby. Also joe, our waiter on my last visit was great!

First time there - we were given a gift certificate. The food was good. Not great, but a solid "good." If you like meat & potatoes with a nice salad bar (like my husband does) then this is the place for you. If you are looking for cutting-edge food & innovative meals, don't waste your time. Décor is so dated it's now kind of vintage & cool. Lots of brick & wood & a REAL wood-burning fireplace, which I thought was great. Lots of Scotch available at the bar ( which I know nothing about so I won't comment.) Some nice house wines & 5 or 6 beer on tap. Prices (food & drink) were on the high end, but not ridiculous. The salad bar was well-stocked with fresh produce & several options for toppings. Hub's sirloin was cooked to order, and he was happy with his meal. Unfortunately, scallops came out almost cold - they were cooked nicely, but not hot at all. I did send them back( all the while fearing that they would now come back overdone) and they came back in about 5 minute still nice & tender and at the perfect temperature. I'm not going to rush back there, as it's not really convenient to where we live. But if we were invited to join friends there or if we happened to be in the neighborhood, we would go back.

went to dinner tonight with my husband. I remember coming here with my parents when I was a kid. Not much has changed, but that's not a criticism. It was nice to visit the old school salad bar that had beets and grilled mushrooms and thousand island dressing. I had the rib eye special that was perfectly cooked to the requested medium rare. My husband had the prime rib that melted in your mouth. Now that we are married, he is required by law to share his food with me. Steak, potato, salad. Nostalgic and good.

We came here on a Friday night as a big group, maybe 11-12 people. We waited about 10-15 min for them to set up the table. It was actually nice, they gave us one table all together with table cloths. The food, however, was not that great. I ordered the prime rib medium (medium and medium well were the only options). It definitely was medium well if not well done. It was probably the worst prime rib I've ever had. It was really tough. The baked potato and salad bar was fine, no real complaints there. I read other reviews here that say the prime rib is good, so maybe they were having an off night. Too bad, service was good, but I just can't stop being disappointed by the prime rib.

So stepping into this relic is like falling through a wormhole into the early part of the 19th Century. Dark and danky barn space and NO WINDOWS to the outside. I by pass this and think hey maybe it'll be something good. Clientele mostly geriatric as if they're time travelers from that epoch. Anyway I order a small filet mignon with curried rice. Presentation less than 0 they bring me the filet and it looked like it was butterflied therefore flattened which is not supposed to be! It's supposed to be look like the Rock of Gibraltar and the rice was awfully placed. Meal less than 0. Dessert less than 0 apple pie with ice cream which seemed to have been smashed up like the filet. This place needs to be put out of its misery and shut down already!

We are frequent visitors here and my wife has some seafood favorites on the menu that brings us back. The quality of the sale bar swings widely but it is usually fresh, early evening when we prefer dinner. The service is young well trained and invariably intelligent. But tonight was pretty sorry introduction to a special night out. We arrived at 4:20 and were sternly advised by the hostess that they didn't open until 4:30. I was amused that she didn't even invite us to have a drink in the bar while they prepared a table which is a common courtesy. Instead we sat on a bench in the drafty ante - room while being entertained by she, taking reservations and chatting on the telephone about the death of a relative. It wasn't a close relative since she did not know any of his children or their names. But that and moving furniture past us from the adjacent storage room entertained us until 4:40 when we were finally seated. I didn't order my usual bottle of wine in revenge. But the cocktails were first-class and I had a pretty good rib eye and my wife enjoyed her lobster tail so crass welcomes don't wreck whole meals.

Not sure what it is about this place.Maybe it's because it opened the year I was born, and I don't think the decor has changed since! I like the warm, casual vintage atmosphere. The same bartender has been waiting on us for years and makes great drinks. If you go, you will likely enjoy the salad bar.Drinks are pricey, but good. I recommend going for steak, and maybe steak only if you want to be assured a great dinner. The steak teriyaki is what we order time after time, and we are never disappointed. Watch for coupons/specials for an even better deal.

There are dinners out and there are one or two meals a year that you plan for, savor and remember. Scotch 'N' Sirloin is the latter. Although I hadn't been there since 2002, I remembered what an incredible meal I had back then and looked forward to going again. My buddy and I decided on Scotch 'N' Sirloin because we both wanted a great steak. He wanted a good cut at a reasonable price and I wanted to go to a restaurant and order a steak that didn't top out at 16 ounces on the menu. We both got exactly what we wanted. Like idiots, we didn't make a reservation and just showed up on a Saturday night at 8 o'clock. The hostess told us there would be a half an hour wait, possibly less. We hung out in the lounge and enjoyed some free popcorn and peanuts. For some reason, people attach a disproportionate value along with any restaurant that offers free popcorn and peanuts, or any establishment where you're welcome to throw your peanut shells on the floor. It was a nice bonus, but the free soda refills carried more weight with me than the snacks. A band set up for the evening (they have free live music every Saturday), but unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your point of view), we didn't hear them because we were seated earlier than expected. Leah (our server) took care of us right away. My pal Mike ordered the 16 oz. Sirloin (around $20) and with a choice between an 8 oz., 16 oz. or a 50 oz. Prime Rib ($50), I chose to go big, then go home. I have a profound love for prime rib, so the menu decision was a no-brainer. The salad bar had a great selection (sauteed mushrooms, fresh radishes, crisp cucumbers and hearty bacon bits) and their house blue cheese dressing was to die for. Like most men, I topped off my salad with about two gallons of dressing. Whenever someone brings a plate of prime rib to my table, I feel like a kid on Christmas morning. The 50 oz. cut was a sight to behold. I ordered it medium and it was cooked carefully and perfectly. The au jus was superb and the crust on the outside of the cut was memorable. I could care less about the decor. It was there. When you go to a steakhouse, you don't waste time assessing knick knacks and feng shui. The servers were all gorgeous, my meal was beyond delicious and the service was spot on. I also didn't care about the bill. As I said, there are perhaps two meals a year, two big nights out that you plan for, look forward to and savor. This was one of them. Scotch 'N' Sirloin provides a truly memorable dining experience if you're a true disciple of prime rib. If you live in the area, though, you probably already know that.

Steaks cut and aged on premises, don't have to say anymore. The teriyaki sirloin is my favorite. My wife usually gets king crab or lobster. Friendly staff and a very cool look to the place. Fireside lounge, and they have lunch too !!

Came here for maybe the 4th time tonight. Honestly every time a pretty lack luster experience. Our server was great. The food however was disappointing. We went 4 adults, and 3 kids. My salmon was fine... Not amazing or awful. My hubby got a steak which he also felt was just okay. Our son returned his steak as it was just horribly flavorless. And our friend really disliked her kabobs. I know crazy to give a place 4 chances if you've never been all that impressed. My favorite part is the sweet potato fries with side of honey. My hubby enjoys the salad bar. This place seems like they are just in need of a little restaurant rescue. They seem to have a great staff with lots of potential. Just very outdated. Dark and dreary. I feel they are going for intimate in a big space but its coming across as well, like i said, dreary. Don't really see going back again.

Salad bar a little run of the mill but good homemade bread and dressings. A bit pricey but prime rib is worth it!

We visited the Scotch N Sirloin restaurant Friday between 4:30 and 5:30. Business was brisk and our server, Lauren, was superb. We used a coupon from the phone book and saved 50 percent off of the price of one of our dinners. The salad bar was fine as an accompaniment to our dinners, but it's a bit overpriced as a stand-alone meal. The top sirloin steak was delicious and, amazingly, so was the vegetarian kabob with curry (which looks much better than the picture of it on the restaurant's website). One suggestion to management: The restrooms by the front entrance need diaper changing stations -- I witnessed a guest using the sink counter to change a toddler's diapers -- totally gross.

I had never been to the Scotch and Sirloin, drove by it a million times, and know it's been there forever. My husband and I had some simply certificates and decided to use them here. I called around 2:30 on Saturday for a possible 6:30 reservation, but all they had was 5:30, so we took it. We arrived at 5 so we could have a drink at the bar first. As soon as you walk in you can smell the wood burning fireplace. The decor is very rustic. A bit dated, but it works. We grabbed a seat at the bar, the bar tender was very nice and talkative. Told him it was my first time there, he told us how they have been in business since 1969' and that the are the only restaurant in Amherst with a real wood burning fireplace, because they are grandfathered in. After our drink we headed to our table. Our server was personable. My husband and I both ordered the 8oz filet with the king crab legs. My side dish I got the curried rice and my husband got the baked potato. We also split a side of mushrooms. Both our entrees came with the salad bar as well. The salad bar was nice, small and simple. Very clean. Our meals arrived in just the right timing. The steak and crab was cooked to perfection. The steak I wish had some sort of seasoning, possibly a light dusting of salt and pepper or garlic butter, it just seemed like it was lacking something. The crab on the other hand...out of this world. My rice was just ok. I think next time I would get the baked potato. We also saved a little room for dessert, I left it up to our server to choose. He brought us the brownie sundae. Delicious! We will definitely be back next time we are in the mood for a crab dinner. For steak we will probably stick to our go to spots. But I think one of the best crab dinners, and the price was very reasonable.

My husband, my youngest daughter, and I decided to come here for our sweetest day dinner. Our first time here. We loved the atmosphere and decor. Staff was attentive and courteous. Since it was a Friday night, we knew we would wait a bit longer than a weekday for our food, which we didn't mind. My husband ordered a lobster tail with a NY strip steak. My daughter ordered a kid's cheeseburger. I had ordered scallops and prime rib. My husband and I both ordered a cup of prime rib and mushroom bisque. Our food was cooked just as we ordered. I ate all but the fat on my prime rib. My little girl loved her burger. It was very very flavorful. Only gripe is they could alter the seasoning on the prime rib and offer a horseradish creme sauce. The sweet potato fries were delicious, served with honey. The soup, oh my god, the soup, was delicious. So good that I'd go back just for that. We will be back, but when we are financially able to drop a hundred plus on dinner.

I have been coming here for many years and decided it was time to review. We have never been disappointed with our food and service, in both the lounge and restaurant. The lounge is a cozy bar with a wood burning fireplace. You can also order food but from a different menu than the dining room. The burgers are outstanding. They have daily food specials as well. My favorite is Wednesday's. 1.00 shrimp..fried, cocktail or scampi. I order the scampi and they serve it over rice. The dining room menu is quite varied offering chicken, seafood and beef. We always order the same dishes though. Prime rib for my husband and top sirloin for me. Both dishes are amazing. Always cooked as ordered. Rare for me and medium for my husband. The rare is very rare with a warning in the menu. The French onion soup is always good too, just very filling to have as an appetizer. The fresh salad bar and bread is great..always chilled, fresh and the marinated mushrooms are wonderful. I don't even bother with the lettuces they offer, too many other choices. The servers are busy, but do their jobs well and are always pleasant. Highly recommend this restaurant.

I came here for the first time in August, 1982. It was my first date with my now ex-husband. This Buffalo institution lasted longer than my marriage. Our "formula" didn't work. Scotch and Sirloin's does. I've been here many times over the decades and I've never been disappointed. The service is always good. The menu never changes (sometimes that's a good thing). And, the salad bar is terrific. Nothing fancy. Just good food. I ate here tonight with my teen-aged son who was in a "meat mood". We both enjoyed two huge plates of salad (we're those kind of people). He then had the Petite New York Strip Steak... which was cooked perfectly. I had the Chicken Cordon Blue (which I must say was the BEST I've ever had!) Both of us had the curried rice. Yum! Just as delicious as always.

I use to be a patron approximately 16 years ago, and thought I would give it another chance. We went on 8/31/2014 around 6 pm and we were seated after a short wait of 10 minutes to a dark, hot outdated dining room. Our party of four was greeted by our waiter after 15 minutes of waiting we received our drinks (diet pop and water for the kids) and then waited another 20 minutes before our waiter came over to take our order. We ordered two filet mignon with a side of mushrooms, top sirloin steak and a parmesan and panko crusted haddock. We proceeded to the salad bar, which I remembered having a wide variety of items, which was very disappointing to see a skeleton of a salad bar, that was not well stocked. The salad bar did not have basic items that are in a typical salad (no cheese, no onions or basic vegetables you would expect at a salad bar). We received our food and the two filets and top sirloin was not even seasoned with salt. The haddock was dry and my son said the fish I prepare put this one to shame, he made me try it, and it was horrible. The side of sweet potato fries were not cooked all the way through, they were hard, soaked in grease and semi fried. The order of mushrooms was never brought to the table and the waiter never came by to ask how our food was or offer us a drink refill. I had to season my filet with a broken salt shaker. I took a few bites of a potato that was cold and two bites of a filet that was seriously underseasoned. We did not finish our food, due to flavor, being under seasoned and cooked, I lost my appetite, and the numerous flies did not help either. We waited 15 minutes after we finished our meal for our check to a waiter who did not ever check on his patrons. I finally asked another server for a box and for our check. Our waiter came over with the check and I made him aware that we never received our order of mushrooms, it was taken off the bill. We proceeded to leave, I was outraged at that point for the horrible experience and food, I told the hostess that I use to be a customer and I will never return due to horrible service, food and bugs. She did offer to call the manager for me, but at that point (over two hours of poor service, food and flies) I had enough and just wanted to leave. I could have made a wonderful meal at home for half the cost and been in a clean atmosphere.

Came with 8 other friends. They said the escargot was good! I had the 8oz sirloin with a baked potato and my other friends had the steak teriyaki, chicken Marsala and clams. I thought the steak was good, I enjoy it medium rare. Our meal also came with soup, the unlimited salad bar, a piece of chocolate cake or a hot fudge Sunday! It was so worth the $20.14 promotion! I really liked everything. Like, just everything. Our server was very attentive and came to refill our waters and pitchers oh so very often. He would also say, "excuse my reach" when he was serving us the food or taking away the plates. I have actually never heard anyone say that so I was pretty amazed at the courtesy? I suppose.. But yeah... I really wanted to try the lemonade but realize I was full by the end of the meal. I think I ate too much and died. I wanna come again next time and have some chicken Marsala, it looked good. I also wanna try the other things on the menu!

Meh. I have been here a few times before and it has been pretty good but I came here with my girlfriend last night and it was ok. It wasn't bad by any means but nothing really stood out. And if it wasn't for the coupon that we had it would've been a lot worse. The salad bar is a nice touch that a lot of other restaurants don't do. We each made a pretty beefy salad consisting of a lot of items which you don't normally find on your regular dinner salad. Artichokes, mushrooms, radishes, banana peppers etc. They also have a few different types of bread that you can choose from (also included in the salad bar). I ordered the pork chops and the vegetable, which was snow peas, and my girlfriend ordered the tilapia and the same vegetable. My pork chops were pretty good. Two beefy chops for $18. They weren't really that flavorful and I was expecting the bone in chops which usually pack more flavor. My girlfriend's tilapia was very bland (that's what he said.. zing!). No seriously, it didn't have much flavor and she had to ask for some tartar sauce just so she could somewhat enjoy it. Overall, this place isn't bad. We had a buy 1 get 1 entree coupon so our bill was only around $20 which was a good deal for 2 dinners. If we paid full price and it was actually $40 it would've been a letdown. The service was good and the food was mediocre. They do have a great bar area too. I'll be back again one day.

Looks the same as it did 30 years ago. Whole place could go for an overhaul. Lacks ambiance, especially since it is relatively expensive. Dinner came with one side, rice, potato or veggie, salad bar is included. Would not recommend this for any kind of a romantic dinner. Lights bright, loud, tables close My cedar planked salmon was delicious (23), petite steak was very petite (19)', tilapia only so so (19) Drinks were costly .... $9.00 for a glass of Sangria !!!! That's insane

Place to get a really good steak without spending a fortune, it'll likely be between $50 and $75 for a couple, so not cheap either. The salad bar that many complain about is a nice touch in my opinion. I have been there several times and still I am shocked by the "barn" decor.

Did not enjoy my meal there at all...the steak came way too overcooked, asked for a replacement and they gave me the same steak back after taking it in, very upset for the price I paid I should've gotten a much higher quality steak.

Went for restaurant week and was pretty disappointed. Clams casino came out so burnt that it was actually black on top. I peeled off the charcoal bacon on top to find a mushy, stinky clam which was obviously not fresh. My wife's salmon was dry and you could tell it was in the freezer for several weeks, if not months. My steak was cooked perfectly med rare, but they didn't put any sort of steak seasoning on it whatsoever, it just tasted like bland meat. Maybe it's because I have dined at Hutches, Left Bank and Bistro Europa in the past six months, all of which had in incredible steak, but I thought Scotch & Sirloin was supposed to be a nice place to. The service was good however, if that's any consolation.

This was recommended to us by Buffalo natives as we were moving our daughter for her 1st year at SUNY at Buffalo and wanted to have a nice family dinner. Unfortunately the dark outdated decor, no one to greet us, as well as an unkept salad bar made us turn around and walk out.Right as I was about to sit down I happened to look at glasses on the table and they were filthy. This looked like the perfect Robert Irvine " Mission Impossible" make over special.

This review is solely on the bar and not the restaurant. It's a great place for any group as it rarely gets crowded and the service is impeccable. The bartenders are really nice and the free popcorn helps out a bunch. They have huge TVs to watch any game and a great hangout for a few or a large group. Some specials include all you can eat tacos. Well worth it

Good food and the salad bar is pretty nice. Service isn't great and the drink refill system is horrific. They have one person in charge of drink refills and she circulates through the restaurant about every 20 minutes. Don't hope for a 2nd glass of water, soda , or yea.

The decor could use a little help, but hey, I'm there for the food! I order the fixed meal of shrimp scampi with curried rice, it was very good. The shrimp was done in a unique way, split in the shell, which I think helped retain the flavor. The rice could use a little more seasoning, but overall very good. My kids ordered their colossal steak and it was cooked beautifully. Our waiter, Michael (pls forgive me if I got the name wrong), is wonderful, alway attentive and eager to help in anyway. The only thing I can think of that was not at par would be their bread. If warm bread was served, this would be a truly exquisite.

After passing by this place forever, we finally decided to give it a try. The outside looks like it is a big cube of sugar. The inside is done in an old western theme with a lot of old wood and texture. Very nice. My suspicions that this was an older crowd place were pretty much right on. Nevertheless, the food here was excellent and the servers were attentive, outgoing and professional. In our group we had prime rib which was as good as it gets, a chicken and a fish dish. Everyone loved their entree and loved the reasonable priced deserts just as much. The salad bar was good and one of us got seconds. S&S is a well established mid to higher end restaurant and a great place to go when you want everything to go right.

Kitschy decor, bad service, sorry salad bar, tiny shrimp cocktail and a good steak. Definitely better steak houses in Buffalo, just sorry I didn't find one. Maybe coming from Chicago I have high expectations, but I cannot imagine the bar is that low in Buffalo.

I gave it three stars because my steak was cooked perfect and tasted good. The service was not all there. It took forever to get our drink order. They do have a good selection of Scotch, they should its part of there name right! I got a Balvenie 12 Year, which I have had before. Very good. Went up to the salad bar and was less than impressed. Lettuce was fresh, but not much attention was given to the rest of the salad bar. Just was not fresh and I never saw anyone go and change things out in the hour we ate. Got the 12 oz Filet and it was cooked perfect to medium. Not much of a seasoning on it, but lots of steak flavor. Baked potato side was cooked very well, soft and easy to eat. It has a real casual feel, customers are mostly in jeans and collared shirts. But the staff is all in the usual steak house attire, so it is a little odd, but works I guess. It does seem to attract more families and the older crowd.

We had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant tonight. I came with my boyfriend, his mother and sister. This is a restaurant that his family has been going to for more than 40 years and they were excited to share this local, family eatery with me. The food was mediocre and over-priced, but the worst part was the service. The waitress was not friendly or helpful or knowledgeable about the menu offerings. At the end of the evening, we presented a discount coupon. It turned out that our coupon had expired 6 days ago and the waitress refused to take it. Upon our request, she begrudgingly had the manager come to our table. We pointed out that coupons were available online and after a mildly heated discussion, she finally relented and allowed us to get the discount (which amounted to barely more than $20). In an economic environment where we're very thoughtful about how we spend any discretionary income, we walked away feeling as though our patronage was not at all valued. It left such a sour taste in our mouth that we'll think twice now about going back....

I have been coming here since I was little. I love this place. I always get the steak teriyaki. They have a salad bar that is really good too. You have to get the raspberry sorbet for dessert. It is a very cozy place.

This place served the worst steak in Buffalo. It had no flavor whatsoever. I asked the manager and she said they don't season the meat in any way because some people don't like it. Even basic salt and pepper would have helped. I knew something was wrong when I noticed everyone pouring A1 all over their meals that it was needed to cover up an atrocious over prices steak.
