Best Green Chile on the planet. It's even vegetarian! My goodness, it's so good I've gone out, purchased four or five different types of New Mexican Chili powder, scoured the internet on a variety of sites purporting to come close to the recipe, spent hours tinkering in my kitchen, and have finally, only just recently, managed to come anywhere near close enough to this amazing creation. If you're in Taos, and you haven't been to Bent Street Cafe for the Green Chile, you don't know Taos very well. I've gone back to New Mexico two or three times just to get some. This is genre defining stuff, my fellow Chile heads. It should be required eating in culinary school.

We ate here Saturday for lunch. we didn't get greeted for about 15 minutes. But once we did, the staff was nice. Our server was sweet. The food and environment are great. All the sandwiches come with tortilla chips, which I could have done with out. Rather have lays. But I didn't need the chips anyways. Got full off the sandwich. The long john Dunn is great!!!

You can get lost in Taos just looking through all the art shops and nick-nack places and not realize how much time has elapsed. That sort of happened to me. But in my wanderings I took a right down a side street and ended up at Bent Street Cafe within the John Dunn shopping area. Lucky me. I took a look at the menu outside and saw a good mix of food. But what brought me in were the two specials. Tortilla crusted green chile mac and cheese and Mexican hot chocolate ice cream pie. Just rolling off your tongue, they sound good. And they were. Once I got in, I took notice that I think I was one of the youngest people there, that included the staff, with the exception of the busser. Not sure if a younger crowd comes here or not, but they need to check out the food. The mac and cheese came with a house salad. A variety of lettuce with cucumbers, sunflower seeds and other veggies for crunch. The vinaigrette was good as well. They also gave me a piece of some warm brown bread with butter. The mac and cheese came out in a large bowl. The green chilies were in evidence throughout the plate and in the sauce that also had chunks of potatoes. The mac and cheese was creamy and the tortillas added a different texture to the meal. It was good and it was gone quickly. Then came the Mexican hot chocolate ice cream pie. The smell of cinnamon, the fresh whipped cream, the hard chocolate topping. It looked too good to eat. (see the pic I posted) It was amazing! Funny thing was, is that I had had an actual Mexican hot chocolate (with added alcohol) version two nights earlier in Denton. They both had the same smells and both were excellent. The staff was very friendly and was quick to fill water and remove plates when needed. If you are in Taos, please search out this place. I found it by accident, and I'm glad I did. Enjoy!

Had a great Tamale and eggs with Pintos and Green Chili breakfast special. Coffee is weak, staff is pretty good. Serves Beer-Wine only including Mimosas. Middle of the week so it was easy to get in and get waited on.

My family and I ate here twice while we were visiting Taos for a long weekend. My mom and sister are gluten intolerant and vegetarian, so it was refreshing to find a spot we could all agree on for lunch! There guac and salsa is a great way to start the meal. The first day I ordered the mediterranean salad which was light and hit the spot. My Dad and sister ordered the quiche of the day and it was awesome! The next day I ordered the veggie sandwich with gluten free bread, it was pretty bland but next time I would just ask that they put some mustard on it. I'd give this place a try, it's also affordable and in a great spot downtown.

The #7 Roast beef (Long John Dunn) served on French bread was pretty close to perfect. The #10 Turkey sandwich ( Zesty Breast) was not bad either. Fresh lemonade and hummus with pita bread went great with the meal. Enjoyed the friendly service and patio seating (with music playing that fits the people watching scene). This was a good choice for a lunch pit stop.

Great outdoor terrace for your meal. You can also dine on their heated patio or indoors. We stopped in for lunch and enjoyed the soup and salad. New Mexico green chile soup is delicious. From looking at those around us, the sandwiches are all popular and looked good as well. They also have a decent selection of beers and wines. Great place to eat then walk around bent street

Whoa! I've always liked this place for lunch but had never been for breakfast. Only tried it b/c Michael's Kitchen was closed. Well, well, well. The corned-beef hash was great and the green chili is much better than I expected. Everyone else's breakfast looked real good too.

My husband and I stopped in for lunch last September when we were in Taos. Love the location. Perfect to be hanging and shopping in Taos. Attractive spot, too. Very casual in a great lunch-y and if you want a drink, too, way. Frankly, I don't remember what we ordered, but what I do remember is that it was tasty and good. We were happy to have chosen this spot--enjoyed being and eating there--and would be happy to come back again. Doesn't that say it all.

Good food reasonable prices. Had the Prime Rib sandwich which was delicious. Enjoy sitting on the patio & people watching . The service was good too.

Food was fine and prices were fair....until I ordered a latte! $11 for a latte and mocha! Weak coffee and expensive. Won't be back.

We have been coming to Taos for 25 years from Houston and no trip is complete without Green chile stew at Bent Street cafe! My husband will take a day off skiing just to eat here! I love the sea bass Reuben!! The service is good- friendly and everything is fresh! Our only negative: they stopped serving dinner a few years ago

Good sausage, choice of organic free range eggs was a nice touch as was offering gluten-free whole grain bread. I enjoyed their tamale breakfast special, and we topped off our meal with expresso drinks. Nice people. Highly recommend.

Just had breakfast at this cute little place. We split the morning special which was a green chilie tamale with spinach and cheese. It was very good. The staff were great. They split the plate for us in the kitchen which was going that extra step that makes a restaurant staff stand out.

Had lunch twice in a week at this deli and found it quite satisfying. Salads were very good and tasty and the portion size was ample without being over the top. The sandwich (turkey and swiss) was tasty and again the portion size was fine. The vegetable quiche was very good - fresh, hot and tasty. Service was poilte, prompt and professional. drinks kept replenished throughout.

Bent Street Cafe & Deli. The name can't get much more simple than that and in need of a quick lunch, it sounded like the place that would fit the bill. On a Saturday afternoon turns out lots of other people agreed and we had a slim pick of tables. We were seated at a table in the noisier section inside since the patio was all full, but the sound was not as bad as I previously worried. I usually don't like to give advice as to how to run a restaurant because let's face it, what do I know? But in this case, I do know that I am right when I say that Bent Street could use one very large organizational meeting. Why am I so sure of this? Maybe because in the course of our 15 minutes of sitting down we had four different staff members come and ask if we had our drink orders taken. Why not just have one waiter assigned to each table and rest assured that they will take care of it? Not only will these lessen the confusion, it will make your customers a lot less annoyed and also speed up the process. Eventually we stopped getting asked what we wanted to drink and could move onto the food. After getting passed between a couple of serves to get this order taken, I went with the simple green chile and salad combo, while my dining companion opted for the turkey, cranberry and cream cheese sandwich on a croissant. Ever heard the saying "Too many cooks in the kitchen"? I wouldn't be surprised if that gets tossed around a lot here because that's just what I saw. For better or worse the kitchen was in my direct view and never before have I seen so many people running around attempting to get food onto plates. You might think this would mean more was getting done in less time, but that's not the case. In fact, our waitress was too busy worrying about what was going on in the kitchen, that she didn't notice our food was ready and waiting to be served for quite some time. Once it did come everything was actually quite tasty but was it worth the stress? Probably not. Until the service gets a makeover, I'll go for one of the other restaurants around the plaza. Thankfully, there's plenty.

Drove in from Angel Fire to visit Taos and had lunch here. Great food! If you can, make sure you get Kristy as your server. She was awesome. Highly recommend.

Tucked into the corner of the John Dunn complex amongst tiny interesting shops with more character in their little finger than any chain store East or West of the Rio Grande stands a refreshing respite from shopping. I had the most outstanding chile laced with smoked green chili's to die for which I paired with a local brew. if I am blessed to return to the area I would directly return Taos & Bent Street to recapture this experience.

Amazingly delicious, freshly prepared food! We ate here twice during our 5-day stay in Taos. They really know what they're doing in the kitchen and the service is super warm & friendly. I had the best huevos rancheros with the red AND green chile sauce (christmas-style). I choose the eggs benedict on my next visit, also very good. Hubby had the housemade chicken sausage, which was out of this world! Eat here!!!

Great outdoor patio seating. Great food. Chicken salad sandwich and California turkey sandwich on a croissant were both delish. Key lime pie was really really good! A tad pricey, but good food and great location.

My partner and I took an impromptu trip to Taos from Santa Fe last weekend and had one of the best meals we've EVER been served here at Bent Street Cafe & Deli. The staff was warm and catered to our Vegan dietary requests with outstanding results. The red and green chile sauces are lovingly crafted and are perhaps the best in New Mexico. We will definately drive back for more wonderful food and friendly service. We actually asked to speak with the owner so we could express our gratitude and hug his neck! Thanks again.

Great location; crummy restaurant. It's a perfect outdoor spot with a really nice garden feel. The lunch menu looks great but the actuall food is mediocre at best. My hamburger was cooked rare but had almost no flavor. The service was pretty bad too. The waitress offered to bring me mayo for the burger and after I finally gave up waiting and was more than half finished she finally showed up with it. It's not always just "location. location. location."

Huevos rancheros red over easy with blue corn. Very good, as expected but with that little something different that is Taos. Tough to give 4 stars to a restaurant I've only been to once, but who knows when I'll be back up here again. Bonus for free wi-fi too.

Great location in the center of Taos. Near good shopping and galleries. Food is ok. Prices a bit high for what you get. You can eat in or take it out. You can do better.

Nice solid lunch place if you need a gluten free option. They now carry gluten free bread. I had a salad special which was good and fresh, though nothing outstanding. They were very sweet and brought butcher paper and crayons for the kids. I imagine it'd be even better if there had been room out on the patio!

Awful food. Nice service but terrible dining experience. Do not order macaroni and cheese, was covered in disgusting American cheese or velveta. Salads bad as well. Merp!!

Good breakfast burrito, good service. My husband has a the lox and bagel, just ok,. The heaters on the porch in the winter are a bit much though, they were so hot we had to move inside just to breathe. The patio outside though is in a great location on the plaza and I bet it would be much nicer than inside the restaurant on a summer day.

This is my favorite restaurant on the plaza. Food is good. The cinnamon roll is rich and buttery. The red chile is tasty and not too hot. The veggie tamale is always fresh and delicious. All sandwiches are made with fresh baked bread too. Fresh ingredients, which is just a standard at most the plaza restaurants, is extra fresh here. This establishments has a great patio to eat and visit. One never feels rushed while dining at Bent Street Cafe. The wait staff is attentive and go above and beyond to please customers. I have watched some difficult customers come in and act grumpy. The wait staff takes it all in stride and make their stay as enjoyable as possible. The best thing I like about this cafe is that my dog can dine with us. They even have dog bowls for water and will add ice on warm days. My dog loves this place as well! Check it out, eat on the patio and enjoy the hospitality of Taos.

Located just north of the plaza, this has been a place we like to stop and grab lunch as we shop the plaza and the shops north of the plaza. The service is great and the food is fantastic! It's not your run of the mill restaurant, the dishes are all made fresh and well though out.

Great food but very understaffed when we popped in after the lunch rush was over. Our waitress was harried and a little forgetful, though she tried hard. It was clear that she had too many tables and not enough help. My mom opted for the quiche of the day, which came with a salad that was delivered a full ten minutes after her quiche. She enjoyed it, but the timing was off. I had a ham and cheese sandwich, which was tasty with a hot dijon mustard and chips on the side. The chips were forgettable and probably came out of a large bag. For a change, the pickle wasn't too be ignored. It was quite crisp and delicious. Bent Street Cafe was good but it could be better.

The quirky staff made excellent recommendations Ina delightful lunch! Hummus and fresh pitas started our encounter while a berry turkey sandwich and the ham on rye were next. We finished with the Mexican pie ice cream which was excellent!

3.5 - Nothing was wrong really, just not a four. The food was good and the staff were good also. The menu is mostly sandwiches, the guac and salsa were good. I don't know what else to say.

I had a bowl of good green chili with beef as recommended by the server, wife had some sort of a wrap that she liked as well. I'd say a solid lunch experience.

Pretty great overall. Had tamales and they were really good. Tons of meat. Everyone was happy with their meals. Long John Dunn seemed to be a favorite and the quiche was outstanding. Will be back.

We're in Taos about once every couple of years -- escaping the dust and heat of West Texas -- and the Bent St. Cafe is our favorite and most reliable lunch spot. First -- they have all my favorite Blue Sky sodas -- no caffeine, lot's of ice. Second -- they do a breakfast/brunch fruit bowl that will roll your socks down. Great fresh fruit in season, and plenty of it. Third -- a really yummy (and messy) reuben sandwich. Okay -- actually, I've never ordered anything there that wasn't good -- but those are the things that call to me.... Across 300 miles of mountains and hot wind they call to me. Bent does a really good bean soup, my husband's favorite "just a ham sandwich" is reliably excellent. We have only been there once at dinner -- I had an excellent Caesar Salad with roasted chicken -- again, Bent has never disappointed. Love the outdoor seating in the cool morning -- a great place to watch the town come to life and make a plan of which galleries to visit!

This is a dependable, delicious breakfast place in Taos. Something wonderful for everyone! I thoroughly enjoyed the corned beef hash with just the right amount of tasty potatoes, hubby and one teenager loved their croissant breakfast sandwiches, the other teen inhaled his cinnamon roll french toast!

Hands down, Bent Street Deli has got the best Reuben sandwich in Taos! You can't go wrong with anything that you order on their menu... a few favorites besides the Reuben, are.. their California Chicken Salad (with feta & dried cranberries!) , the Long John Dunn (a warm roast beef sandwich with horseradish and muenster cheese), their salmon cakes (served on a bed of spinach with balsamic vinaigrette reduction), or their Babaganouj plate, yum. They also cater for events and deliver to the downtown area!

  • TK B.

I love this place! They have the best eggs benedict on the entire planet. Just the right amount of butter and lemon. Yum! All other eggs benedicts are unfortunately ruined because of this gem. The sandwiches are also pretty tasty. I'm one for The Taos or The Long John Dunn. All the soups are homemade and always delicious. The vegetarian green chile stew?! Did I already say yum? Well, I have to say it again. Yum! In the summer this place is slammed almost the whole time they're open, but the turnover is pretty fast. So, the wait isn't usually too bad. The inside seating portion of the restaurant is a little small and get kind of loud, but the enclosed patio or the outdoor tables are just lovely.
