This used to be one of my favorite places. They have gone downhill for some time now. I went today because I had a gift certificate and figured I might as well use. I ordered the "chicken" Alfredo. 12.95 for the noodles and $2.00 extra if you want chicken. It was a small bowl of barely warm noodles with strips of parts of parts chicken that was COLD. Cold bread sticks and wilted salad!! I hope I don't have any friends that want to go there because I never want to eat there again!!! And by the way....this is no longer an Italian Restaurant!!

I was going to try Vines tonight at the recommendation of the hotel clerk. Walked in and there was only one customer at 7pm. No staff to be found. Poked around a few moments. No one showed up. Walked out. Wasn't looking very promising!

We moved to Portales for work, and we go out every Friday. This was a nice change. We walked in and two men greeted us right away. Our waiter was Robert, if I remember correctly. He was so very nice! And helped us with the menu. We all could not decide what to order because everything sounded so wonderful. This has to be the nicest restaurant in Portales. We will definitely be going back, we haven't found a restaurant here that we liked as much as Vines.

Great decor and good ambiance. I think this is the nicest restaurant in Portales. If you like craft beer you might be surprised. They carry this IPA from Albuquerque that was phenomenal. Good wine list with good prices. The best part of the night was the bread they bring out with balsamic vinaigrette. It was so good. My meal wasn't good. I ordered the chicken parm and it was just so dry. Save the $15 and come for drinks and bread.

It looks nice. That's about all I can give this place. Overpriced, small portions. Husband had cold food, mine was so salty I almost couldn't eat it. Ice water tasted like it came from an old dusty barrel. And to top it off, the waiters were just awkward. Won't be returning. We live in Clovis and have had better dining experiences in Portales. This was not one of those better experiences, unfortunately.

The service was great and meal way pretty good. Fairly expensive for the town, but it was good for a date night. It also had a decent wine list for drinks.

The chicken parmesan is probably the best I've ever eaten. The service was top notch. A good find for just passing through town.

Service was non- existent. I felt sorry for the wait staff because the entire restaurant is obviously mis-managed. We sat 40 min before they took our order for entree. Ordered water when we first sat down, but it never came. Our waiter was a nice guy, but couldn't tend to us because he was too busy tending bar! There was no bar tender. The waitstaff had to make their own drinks. I ordered shrimp and scallop scampi. What I got was wet noodles, with a few cold shrimp covered in salt and pepper. No scallops as advertised. My husband's order of chicken carbonara was absolutely inedible. Chicken was dry and over cooked, and the sauce had no flavoring. Wait staff kept apologizing and offered to give us free dessert, but we were hungry for a real meal, so we got the check and left. It's so sad and it says a lot about the quality of life around here, that this is considered the nicest restaurant in town.

Bland tomato sauce, use way to much oregano. good service from waiters, little too expensive. Breadsticks were good. The ranch salad did not taste like ranch. Dessert menu was fun and delicious.

It's not the best restaurant, but it's OUR restaurant. I have had service that was merely acceptable ranging all the way exceptional. The food is good enough, and the place is easily the nicest we have in town. The wine list is also quite limited. Overall, I enjoy my time there whenever I go. Don't go expecting authenticity, but for a small town in wont of Olive Garden, we do very well with the Vines.

Went here for my b-day and could not have been more dissapointed. The place was pretty much deserted and between the two servers, there were four tables being used and it was some of the worst service I've ever experienced. We ordered our app and proceeded to wait over 30 min, when I asked our server to cancel the order he said he was just about to bring it out and that if we still wanted it there would be no charge; after 10 more minutes, our extremely lack-luster bismati showed up consisting of canned pesto on un-toasted bread with a side of marinara. Reviews from some other sites said the breadsticks were the best part of the meal, but we wouldn't know, we never got any. It's hard to mess up a caesar salad, so I give them credit for pulling it off and finding the saltiest dressing I've ever tasted. Our meals showed up and I ate about a 1/4 of my $14 lasagna before giving up. The menu description was something like "overflowing with meat" but there may have been almost two tablespoons of flavorless ground beef. My girlfriend got the shells and didn't even finish one of the three before giving up as well. Writing this review has actually made me regret not asking to speak to a manager and trying to get the meal comped. The chianti wasn't terrible but it would have been nice to have had the wine poured for us from the $22 bottle. They offered a birthday dessert but I turned it down.

The restaurant itself is unassumingly cute based on the decor on the outside of the building. The decorated ceilings and somewhat dim lighting make for a good date night or girls night spot. However; both times I have eaten here, the restaurant has been quite empty and the service has been incredibly slow. So far, the only thing keeping me from rating this place 2-stars is the fact that they don't ever have a wait (unlike the restaurant across the parking lot) and they serve tasty half-price appetizers during happy hour. My favorites so far have been the stuffed mushrooms and the fried cheese ravioli. At around $4.00 a plate (originally $8 or $9) these could easily be a meal. The ravioli is crispy on the outside, and has a nice warm cheese stuffing. The marinara sauce isn't anything special but it complements the cheese ravioli well. The stuffed mushrooms are decent sized (not too small/big) and the spinach and cheese stuffing is nice and savory. Yum. Onto the food... their steak and mushroom pizza is pretty good, however, at around $12.00 its a little on the small side. The restaurant across the street serves excellent pizzas for about the same price and they are much bigger. Flavor-wise, the flank steak served on the steak and mushroom pizza is super tender and savory and the mushrooms are fresh. I'd come back to order this again. For an Italian restaurant... the pasta dishes such as the veal marsala and the chicken fettuccine alfredo were pretty disappointing. Both dishes could have used more salt or seasoning as the sauces were quite bland. In addition, both the veal and the chicken were dry. I did enjoy the complimentary breadsticks and side salad that accompanied the meal so let's hope that the dry/bland pasta dishes were just a one-time thing. The wine list and beers offered at Vine's encompass a variety of beverages. I ordered the Hefeweizen and my significant other ordered a pinot noir. Service was quite slow even though there were only 4 tables with patrons in the main dining area. I'm not quite sure how many waiters/waitresses work one area but we waited for a while for our water to be refilled as well as for our check. Overall, I'd stick with the pizzas and half-price appetizers if you do decide to come here for a meal. It's definitely one of the nicer places to eat at in Portales.

Moved to Portales a year ago. First visit here the food was okay, service slow, and the live band was to loud to hear what my now, fiance was saying. Today, we decided to try Vines again. There was no wait. Like many reviews the place looms nice well kept. Upon receiving our food, the soups were room temperature. My order was chicken parmesan but I got chicken Alfredo. Both these issues were brought up to our server Knight. He did his best to fix the problems. After my fiance and daughter finished eating I got my order. the chicken breast was huge and rough. The butter knife I had to cut it with struggled until I finally tore the chicken apart with my fingers and fork. It was really salty...the best part of the meal was the bread sticks and the loaded potato soup...once they had rewarmed it up. My impression is this place is under staffed our server kept running through the place trying to accommodate guests. Twice I spoke to him while he was out of breath. It wasn't until we were leaving did I see another server. The recipes need alterations or change the designer plates and silverware they come out with. I dont believe I will be eating here again. One star for the environment and one star because I feel as though our server was sincere when fixing the mistakes made.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
