This is a gem of restaurant I cannot give it five stars only because of the waiting time to get your food. Let me get on with my review. This is the second time I have eaten dinner here. The space is large but spare. The large glass windows facing east have incredible views of the Sandias. But the actual restaurant has little decor. There is an enormous buffet that seems to go for days (lunch only--guessing they pull out all the stops at lunch time) which occupies a large portion of the dining area. The menu has a nice variety of menu items-beef, goat, chicken, shrimp, fish, and numerous vegetarian and vegan. Tonight I ordered the vegetarian dumplings in an almond cream sauce. Creamy and delicious. Mom ordered the chicken Korma Kashmir...bascially the same sauce. Dad order the goat..the sauce was tomato based with onions and peppers...his had some heat All of our food came with basmati rice and peas. We also ordered a flatbread filled with potatoes and spices. I love the food here, but if you are in a hurry, this is not the place for you. Everything is made fresh...so it takes time...so as I wrote above...is is the only reason to not give five stars. They do offer beer and wine plus soft drinks and lassi. I plan on finding my way here for the lunch buffet..only to try more food. Namaste

Based on other reviews, I decided to try this spot for my Friday night dinner. Good choice! I ordered the masala chai tea and they keep the mug filled with the delicious beverage the entire dinner. The meal was Paneer Tikka Masala and plain Naan bread. There was enough for me to have a second meal another day.

I haven't been to all of ABQ's Indian restaurants (there aren't very many) but this one is very good. Great service, good menu, ability to regulate the heat. They have a good sampler selection if you're just starting out. Their samosas, nan and saag paneer are all good and I also usually get the navratan korma. Great sauce. They're not stingy with the rice or servings. They also have a raspberry tea there that I suck down like three glasses of every time I go.

Food was good, service was very meh. Waiter seemed patronizing but I can chalk that up to cultural differences. One of our orders came out wrong (chicken instead of fish), but that's not a reason for two stars in my book. My main problem with the place was the rice. We got three large entrees for the extremely fair price of around $50, usual Indian food. These entrees advertise that they come with rice. They came with an absolutely paltry amount of rice, enough for maybe one person. I asked for more and received a hesitant, reluctant yes as a reply. Another small platter of rice came out about 15 minutes later. Note that we were demolishing these small plates of rice literally the second they were placed on the table. I didn't ask for another plate as we were able to at least eat comfortably enough at this point. The real kicker was when we were ready to leave and still had a fair amount of food left sans rice. I politely asked for a third small portion of rice to add to our to-go boxes. I was flat out refused. They saved 10c worth of rice, but lost any future business I would take there. I will gladly make the trip across town to Taj Mahal to avoid this place in the future. Unlimited rice for days

I don't have much luck with Indian restaurants in Albuquerque... Indian food is my favorite so when we decided to eat here I was excited like Cartman going to Bennigans. Understandably there was a concern that I might pitch a fit like Cartman if the food was bad.... It wasn't and I didn't. We will definitely come here again! Staff were really nice. Service a little slow especially because there weren't that many people. The food more than made up for this.

We arrived at India Grill for lunch and were surprised it was a buffet. There was no option to order off the menu. The food on the buffet was tasty, but part of the fun of Indian food is ordering the food personalized to your spice preference. All of the food was super mild. The naan was empty more often then full. The restaurant was clean as was the bathroom. The sink in the bathroom gave me a giggle and took me a minute to figure out. Price was fair for a buffet but nothing was good enough to go back to the buffet for. I will give India Grill another shot for dinner when we can order from a menu to see if the flavor is better then.

Amazing food! Being Indian, I am very picky, and this place definitely was authentic. Service was excellent and everything was very clean and quick. Would definitely come back again! We got the tandoori chicken and lamb vindaloo- well spiced but not over the top spicy.

Solidly delicious lunch buffet (even on weekends), with many yummy choices! Including goat curry! One thing I love (and judge a restaurant by) is the number of people of that ethnicity eating there. There were any Indian and Pakistani enjoying lunch with us. Service was great, and the food was surprisingly fresh for our late 130pm lunch!

Since Albuquerque doesn't have a viable all-vegetarian restaurant yet (Am didn't impress), I had to stick to one side of the buffet- but the veg side at India Grill is pretty stunner. The dal always gives a warm hug to the palate, pakoras are crispy (!!), and the chai is served just hot enough to ensure you don't throw it immediately down one's gullet. Dinner was more lovingly prepared than lunch. On food quality alone, India Grill earns an Albuquerque 4-star. The friendly service, however, bumps it up to 5. Some buffets feature automatronic workers who are always there for a refill or clearing an empty plate, but don't engage in any sort of niceties. India Grill's staff (particularly the woman who welcomes each guest) are warm and helpful.

Awsome food here! Their lunch buffet has an excellent selection of vegetarian items, and they keep it physically separate from the meat items. Their sag paneer is so smooth and creamy, it just flows down your mouth. Their tandoori chicken is moist, most places it's very dry. I didn't try their salad bar, but it looked appealing. The mango custard and the rice pudding were the perfect finish to a great meal.

One thing I don't appreciate is being served old food. My boyfriend and I ordered the chicken pakora as an appetizer. The moment I bit into the chicken, I knew it was old and refried. You know deep fried chicken is old when it looks brown and has a tough/dry texture. I couldn't let it pass me so when our server came by to ask how we liked our food, I asked him if the pakoras are supposed to have that texture just to see what he would say. I didn't complain nor did I ask for new pakoras and even told him I don't want to waste food. The server was nice enough and told the cook. The cook made a new batch and you can definitely tell the difference. The new batch was soft and had a nice texture. I posted it on my pictures. While I appreciate the gesture of making a fresh batch to keep customers happy, it should have been done to begin with so that there wouldn't be any issues. As paying customers, we deserve freshly made food. This place serves probably one of the best chicken tikka masala I've ever tasted. I cannot rave about that enough. Our garlic naan was delicious and so was the mango lassi. We're still exploring and giving all the other indian restaurants in Albuquerque a chance. I wouldn't return here for the pakoras, but I would return for the chicken tikka masala. They're amazing. The service was friendly. Our server checked on us and was nice. The chef however, needs to be spoken to for trying to pull one on customers. The reason why this place is getting 3 stars is because the chicken tikka masala was out of this world and our server was nice. Otherwise I would give 1 star for the unpleasant appetizer.

Wow! This place is great! Five of us went there for dinner and we all loved it it! The food was prepared exceptionally, presented professionally and tasted fabulous. I don't think it matters what you order, these people know how to make food taste delicious! We'll be back again and again!

I would say food wise maybe the best Indian food experience I have ever had. If I am ever back in ABQ, I will visit again.

  • Arash M.

Very nice buffet. They have a ton of authentic Indian food dishes, and a ton of side dishes that I've never had before. The garlic nan is AMAZING. I had three huge plates and ate until I was hurting. It was that good. Although I wish they offered more spicy dishes, they have a hot chili sauce but it takes away from the flavor of the food. I also got take out and asked them to make it as spicy as humanly possible but it still wasn't spicy enough. I'll still be going back though. Btw, starve yourself before you come here, because you will want to eat a lotttt.

If you love Indian cuisine and live in the far Northeast Heights, you don't need to travel far to have great Indian food anymore. India Grill is on Wyoming, north of Academy. Well, barely north of Burlison. Take the short journey to your new favorite Indian restaurant, because it is so worth it. Some of my favorites here are their Dal Whalla Lamb, Vegetable Korma, Tandoori Chicken, Saag Paneer. Of course, if I had my druthers, I'd snarf down every single dish on their entire menu and top them off with a wafer-thin mint. :: kaboom :: All their dishes are prepared to perfection, and as you would expect from an excellent Indian restaurant. India Grill is one of the top three Indian restaurants in the area. Check it out.

Service was great. Environment/ambiance was standard Indian tackiness. The samosas were bomb. Chicken tikka was great. Best Indian food in the state and I've had them all. This place gets 5 stars for the food quality and service. NOT the ambiance.

Great Indian food! We arrived at dinner time after a 13 hour drive from Los Angeles and needed a place close to our hotel. Typically we go for New Mexican fare when in town, but opted for a different kind of spice and were not disappointed. The style of the food is a little more rustic--sauces are a little chunkier then I'm used to--but they were extremely flavorful. One of my dining companions wanted to order mild, which I usually avoid because it tends to make the food less tasty, but here that was definitely not an issue. Lots of flavor even with a less spicy dish. I also had a vegetarian diner in my party, and while Indian restaurants always have great options, this place had some great combo plates that were a big hit. If only we lived locally!

Being a connoisseur of Indian food I can say with conviction that this is the best masala chicken I've ever experienced. But the restaurant speaks for itself with its multitude of awards on the wall. The Sunday lunch buffet is well worth the investment at just under $14. Well laid out seating with ample booths, clean modern bathrooms and friendly and attentive staff. Feels family run even though it's in a strip mall. Easy to find. Highly recommended.

This was my first introduction to Indian food, as I hear this is where folks from India go for authentic food. Can't get more of a referral than that, right? Started with the vegetable pakora, which were (maybe curried?) cauliflower and potatoes in a garbanzo bean butter plus a little garlic (delicious) naan. Sampled a delicious saag paneer for a vegetarian option (there were many) and tried a few traditional chicken dishes. Caveat: I went on a Sunday so there was only a limited item buffet. My well-versed Indian foodie friend was sad there was not lamb (he goes there a lot) but swore to me the goat curry was delicious. I had zero idea what I was eating or expecting, but everything was delicious. I look forward to going back for a more broad Indian food experience, but this nicely presented buffet gave me the basics and confidence to come back.

Found this place while passing through ABQ. It was a good buffet with good amount of tasty items. Loved their Chicken Tikka Masala and Goat Curry. The dessert was good too..the Gulab Jamuns were freshly made and huge. Would love to come here again sometime when I'm in ABQ!

I am 100% indian.. gujarati.. this was the first time i had eaten here, and it was awesome, truly great. Normally "indian" food is something i run from, it is something i eat everyday... but i was dropping my father off at the airport and i needed a place where he could eat veg. Soooooo i rolled the dice and said screw it lets go. This place was fantastic. Ive had the standard chicken tikka masala.. it was the best ive had to date. He had the began bartha and was very pleased as well.. we did start with samosas and they were great. My only dislike or complaint is the chai was weak. Being indian i have been raised on it and love it.. this tea definitely needs more garam masala and maybe some ginger.. but this is my only complaint.. if you are on the fence give it a try.

Great food and fast service. The food was mild as opposed to hot but had wonderful flavor. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a good Indian restaurant in the area

I've been exposed to "Americanized" versions of ethnic cuisine but it doesn't usually come with such high ratings on Yelp. Placed an order for pick up, there was some confusion on whether I was ordering the appetizer tandoori chicken (wings) or the entree...felt I was clear enough on my order when I explained it twice, that I wanted the appetizer and not the entree, that they were wings. So, they just put both on the tab to cover all bases. Lamb Saag, well let's put it this way; dry meat. Tastes great after I added the following: Garam Masala Cardamom Clove Nutmeg Allspice Cayenne pepper ...because everyone stocks those spices in their arsenal. It's a CURRY!!!!! It should have more than ghee and cream! I hope they consider adding some flavor. Saw the rave reviews on the garlic naan, but I can't see the major surcharge for pickled, jar-bought minced garlic spread. Couldn't eat it. Room for improvement for sure. Can't believe anyone from India who's had mom's cooking could frequent this place. Unless, like here in the U.S. when your mom can't cook - you like McDonald's.

Came in for lunch, which was buffet. $7.99 each It was very tasty and had a wide variety of offerings. There was a n extensive vegetarian section and a good omnivore section. My favorites were the saag paneer, curry chicken and the butter chicken, the veggie jalfrezie, tandoori chicken, and the galab jamun was off the hook. The decor was nice and the restaurant was clean, inviting and the staff was legit. Would return for dinner. Their menu looked extensive. And writing this review is making my mouth water. The end.

My favorite here is the goat curry. Although they serve goat curry on the buffet on the weekends, I strongly recommend ordering it cooked to order. --I especially like the bone pieces where you can suck out the bone marrow out like a straw. The goat meat and sauce is amazing too! add a side of garlic naan and i'm set.....

Delicious lunch buffet! I liked every single dish that I tried, and the staff we extremely attentive. A great place! I LOVE the rice pudding. Yum! The prices are also super affordable.

Where's the flavor? Maybe Indian spices don't make it to the hinterlands? We always try to avoid buffets, but that seems to be the only lunch option here so we went along. All of the food seems to serve the literary common denominator. You would think meatballs would be in a curry... no luck, tge sause has more Italian than Indian influence. The curries on offer have little flavor and the nan was tough. Really a sad lunch.

Had lunch buffet recently and wife and I ate dinner a couple months ago. The dinner was very enjoyable! My wife ordered the Tandoori Chicken and I ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala. Both entrees were very tasty. The sides of rice and Naan bread also met our expectations. The buffet was good but I have never been a big fan of buffets because you can never control the freshness of what you are eating. They had a good selection and for the price I will definitely return. Overall, I am pleased with this restaurant and will considered this my go to restaurant when I am craving Indian food.

It was that time, time to go binge eat Indian food= this happens a couple times a month. People have said I can not eat 20$ worth of Sushi well fooey to them, I can pack away the chow when it calls to me. For a shockingly low 8.99$ or 19.17 with tax for two to glut out The buildings decor may be a bit outdated, but the service is not. As others have said the interior is very salmon pink- I am guessing it must have been a Chinese restaurant at one point. We managed to put back two plates of food each and a Galub Jambon before rolling ourselves back out to the car. Highlights were the Butter Chicken made with yesterdays tandoori- I am guessing. Using the day old Tandoori is somewhat common and genius, as it imparts extra layer of smokey flavor and any dryness is whisked away by the glory of the fatty sauce. The eggplant potato dish, was very good. Naan was some of the best in town. The Saag Paneer was exceptional, with the added surprise of having mushroom mingled within. It gave it another layer of umami meatiness. The Pakoras were okay- a little dry. THey also had Jalfreezi, Meatballs, the dark Daal dish, a potato cauliflower curry, and two kind of Tandoori chicken. Nothing was over salted, and unlike some other buffet experiences nothing was bland. For the value we are certainly returning. I left bloated and no longer craving sopping up various pools of curry with Naan.

One of the best Indian restaurants I've been to in Albuquerque. We were seated promptly on a Friday night around 6 PM. The restaurant was moderately full with four waitstaff. The waitress took our order quickly and politely. We ordered the Tandoori Chicken, Keesh Naan and Chicken Vindaloo with one each of the mango and sweet Lassi (a yoghurt based drink). The food arrived quickly and steaming hot. Everything was absolutely delicious! The Tandoori Chicken was orange from the yoghurt marinade and had a mild smokey flavor imparted by the tandoor grill. The Chicken Vindaloo had a bit of heat, but wasn't rediculously over the top (fair warning, I'm a heat fiend, so it may be hotter for some folks). The basmati rice had a very delicate, but yummy flavor and went well with the vindaloo sauce. The Keesh Naan was a bit greasy, but I guess that's hard to get away from with lamb, it still tasted great. The Lassi were very good, but filling. Just enough sweetness in both the mango flavor and the sweet to offset the sour yoghurt taste. A very nice evening out, the only thing that would make it better would be some Indian folk music playing softly in the background.

Came here for a late lunch with the family and the food here is very delicious. I would have given 5 stars, but there was a mistake/miscommunication to where I mistakenly got a buffet before we found out there were menus. All is well though because I ended up trying the butter chicken with rice and it was amazing. My wife went ahead and ordered from the menu what we normally get at an Indian cuisine establishment to test for likeness, which is the Tikka masala. It came in at the second best we have ever had...the first is in L.A. at East India Grill :) None the less, super amazing food. On a side note, children are welcome, but the ambience definitely feels more that of a grown-up restaurant...just check out the picks of the table setups...also, I believe the Chai could be a little stronger. Highly recommend, and thank you for the good eats.

I go here with one friend or another at least once a week. Go at 11:30, when restaurant first opens, if you want an even more special experience! Lots of vegetarian options! I love all the vegetarian options and especially LOVE the home made chai! Service is exceptional. My very favorite Indian restaurant of all time!

Had some food here for the first time. My husband can't stand Indian food, so I always get "take out" (even the smell makes him sick). I got my usual favorites, Aloo Mutter, Biryani Rice, Aloo Paratha, and Vegetable Pakora. All were really good. I must say that usually I don't like the "authentic" aromatic dishes (the ones that smell and taste like incense), although I love the Americanized versions of Indian food. However, the Aloo Mutter was aromatic, yet, not overly so. Also, I usually find cilantro and mint chutneys to be overly minty... but again, India Grill's was just a perfect blend of cilantro and mint to give flavor without tasting like an ice cream topping. I also tried something new (for me) for dessert, ...Kheer, which was really good. A little more milky than I expected, but very tasty. After some research, I found that the owners of India Grill were the owners of India Palace. They have changed their recipes and also their menu a bit - which is somewhat refreshing, even if the food was excellent the way it was. Very glad to have found this and will enjoy whenever we are in town.

Walked into a buffet was really surprised but to my delight the food hadn't been sitting out very long and was very fresh. Not sure if that was just because it was a Sunday or if they do the buffet daily I highly recommend the buffet allows you to try multiple different things all very good. Was also very impressed with how clean and updated the facilities were. The waitstaff also did an excellent job every time we turned around they were asking to refill our glasses very attentive to detail

We had the lunch buffet which was delicious! The service staff was friendly and on point with refills. There was a great selection that is labeled so if you're not familiar with every Indian dish you can identify what you'd like to try. I'll be back for sure.

We came here for a late weekend lunch. I noticed the buffet as we were seated in a booth of our choosing. The server did not hand us any menus, even after bringing our drink order. We had the iced Chai tea and both found it pretty weak, but not bad. After drinks were brought the server told us to serve ourselves and I assumed that meant that they only had the buffet. It was not until after my husband went to serve himself from the buffet that another employee came over to ask if we wanted to order from the menu. I ordered the chicken Tikka masala with the kashmiri naan. We were very disappointed that we had gotten a buffet without knowing we could in fact ordered from the menu. I wish we had asked, but it all could have been avoided if we had been given menus upon being seated. This was our first visit to this restaurant so we has no way of knowing and I have been to Indian restaurants before that do only buffet at lunch. The food was all wonderful, very close to the best Tikka Masala I have ever had. My kids loved the rice. The butter chicken from the buffet was even delicious. I highly recommend you try the kashmiri naan with cherries and nuts. We devoured that! We will be back (maybe for date night instead of bringing the kids next time).

Amazing service, and great food. I had a wonderful dinner here, and I like how they have indian music playing in the background, and Bollywood films on the TVs. The place is clean, and not to loud ( you can have a nice conversation without yelling).

One of the very few Indian restaurants in New Mexico to offer authentic Indian food. The lunch buffet on weekends has got a lot to offer catering to all your taste buds. All the Indian breads offered in their dinner menu are too good. Don't miss out the gulab jamun for dessert, was too good.

I have been a long-time fan of India Palace and was thrilled to discover the owners have opened this new restaurant. Went with my son today for the lunch buffet and it was wonderful. The restaurant is a little tricky to find, straight across from Albuquerque Academy on Wyoming Blvd. NE near a street called Burlison. The food was terrific, the restaurant clean and attractive, and the service was excellent. I also noticed the owners and staff eating the food as the lunch hour was coming to a close. I HIGHLY recommend this wonderful new Indian restaurant!

I definitely think this is the best Indian restaurant in town. We are always pleased with the flavors and preparation of our dishes. Absolutely love the Chicken Tikka with vegetable biryani and garlic naan. I'd give it 5 stars if they' change the wall colors to something other than pink and salmon.

Over the last 10 years I have gone to various Indian restaurants in ABQ and this is as good as it gets! This is Indian cuisine made in the traditional way and it was phenomenal. The butter chicken was amazing, and the vindaloo lamb was tender with a perfect amount of spice . The garlic naan was incredible and the wait staff are attentive enough to make sure you get it fresh out of the oven. The staff are very polite and attentive without being overbearing. Although the peachy decor looks a little like a late 90s flashback, the restaurant is open, inviting and clean. With a lunch buffet under $10 we will definitely return! But, just to be clear the regular entrees are worth every penny!!

Quite good Indian food. Nicely seasoned, not too spicy or sweet or sour on the sauces, but a flavorful experience. Nice selection of naan breads and all the standard fare you expect in a big well lit room.

My parents have been living in Albuquerque for a while. I got my first chance to visit Dec 13. My parents kept telling me about this great Indian Restaurant that closed down and want to try India Grill. To their surprise the owners just moved the restaurant to this location after taking a rest. My parents were right, this place has incredible food. The staff is great as well. I have a lot of good Indian food in Chicago but this place was simply amazing. We all tasted each other's stuff, the Chicken Tikka Massala, the Shrimp Vindaloo, and the lentil soup were superb. This is going to be a regular haunt for my family and whenever I am in town as well. Bonus: They had a Bollywood music channel playing on the TV with some really cool choreography that ads to the ambiance.

I went back again and got samosas and Lamb Biryani. The Lamb Biryani was so good I ate it directly out of the take out dish without any cutlery! I eventually slowed down and found a fork in my Nissan Versa. It was Delicious! It was so fresh. I can still taste the sweetness of the sautéed onion. The take out plastic dish was a good quality unlike the cheap styrofoam that Taj Mahal uses. This food is head and shoulders above the non fresh Taj Mahal!

Pleasantly surprised! We were just stopping by on our way to Colorado and needed a good dinner. India Grill blew us away - by far the best Indian food we have had, perhaps ever. The food was phenomenal - the garlic naan is to die for - and the service was top notch. I can't wait to pass that way again!

Great Buffett! One of the top two Indian restaurants in ABQ. They have a great beer selection too which is a rarity at most Indian Restaurants. The Tvs play fun bollywood shows while you eat which is always fun. The drink refills come really fast too which is a must when eating spicy food.
