Went here last Friday for a nice lunch with my mother. The service was great, but the food was seriously lacking. The bread at the beginning of the meal was the best part. I had French onion soup to start, and it was below average. Very little cheese, and a few croutons floating around. For my main course I had the green chile chicken Alfredo. The green chiles were practically non existent. The Alfredo sauce had very little flavor, and the penne pasta was definitely over cooked. My entree was not hot when it was brought out. The chicken seemed to be a tad over seasoned. My mother had the linguini with tilapia. It was served hot, and the pasta was a nice al dente. The fish was seasoned far too much. There was also no salt or pepper on the tables, which is a huge turn off for me. I had a nice glass of Argentine Malbec, but the wine glass was so big my "glass" looked like a sample. I would say this place is about as good as a Chili's or Applebees, which isn't saying much. The ambiance is very nice; the dining room is very nicely appointed. Somewhat out of place in Alamogordo. I will give it another chance before I leave town and review again.

Truly great restaurant! I have been on several occasions. And, never once was I disappointed. The Steak Oscar was fantastic! The lunch prices are affordable!!! The only thing that could make this restaurant even bette would be daily or weekly chef's special. I love being surprised by things that aren't on the menu.

Great food and service! In Alamogordo, this is the BEST place for romantic evenings out. The soups, appetizers, and entrees are all delicious. My favorite is the Steak Oscar! Stella Vita is somewhat pricey, and is worth every penny! Don't miss it!

We both had a really nice lunch experience here. The Sirloin Steak was really good as where the mashed potatoes , salad and lightly sautéed vegetables , the creme brûlée was creamy with a prefect crust. The muted decor added to a relaxing lunch.Service was excellent . Highly Recommended!

This place is a super gourmet restaurant. It's a diamond in the desert. Although it's expensive its a great place to go to celebrate or just to treat yourself.

LOVE this place for both dinner and lunch. The atmosphere is classy, the wait staff professional and the food is excellent. True that it's hard to believe Alamogordo could have such a classy place...but it does and we're thankful. Love the bread, the wine list is excellent and everything we've ever had on the menu has been fantastic.

Excellent food, excellent service! We got into town late, and were very happy to be seated 15-20 minutes before closing. Our waiter, Matt (I believe, I'm horrible with names), was very helpful with the wine list, offering to let us try anything before deciding. The same went for the meal selection, offering to test sauces to see if they would work for us. Everyone was very friendly, our waiter was personable and professional without being stuffy or pretentious, great attention to detail. The food was fresh, perfectly prepared and looked tantalizing on the plates. Bottom line - this place is a gem in New Mexico, excellent place for a nice meal, either a special occasion or just to treat yourself. Whatever excuse you need, just go! You won't be sorry! I don't normally go all gourmand "I want to tell you every minute detail of my meal"... But this'll was worth it!! So if you want the details... Meal rundown: focaccia with red sauce - sauce was a bit spicy and tangy, with a touch of fruity sweetness, and focaccia was fresh baked. Chicken green chile - flavorful without being too spicy, I could have had a little more heat, but I didn't miss it in here. Pork chop with peach habanero glaze - juicy, tender, cooked to perfection, sauce was flavorful but not overly spicy... this chop was extra thick, so i got to take some home for leftovers - yay! Filet of beef - good size portion, cooked exactly to order, yummy thyme, rosemary reduction complemented the cut of meat very nicely. And the best part -- fudge torte - rich dark chocolate baked confection (it had the texture of some of the better baked fudge I've had in the past), served with vanilla ice cream that tasted like it was home made or at least small batch, and strawberries. It was divine!

I was so impressed with our dinner here, I and my husband came from CA to see White Sands. I checked with yelp, saw good review. So I called restaurant to make a reservation, restaurant closed at 9 pm. I asked if they can take us at 8:15 pm. They said OK. When we arrived at restaurant no one is inside restaurant. They didn't have alcohol at that night. We figure maybe this is the reason.. We ordered appetizer mushrooms, steak, duck, etc.. surprised all food was great !! Everything is absolutely enjoyable, even bill was good surprise too. We need to pay more than triple if we eat same quality in LA. We love to come back next visit in White Sands.

Likely the best restaurant in Alamogordo. Beautiful ambiance, excellent service, fantastic food. Lunch was very reasonable at $8-$12 per plate with a nice selection of specials. I highly recommend this restaurant for someone who wants a better dining experience than the quick-dining Chilis type restaurants that dominate the town. We will be back guaranteed.

Stella Vita is by far the best fine dining restaurant I have ever been to in the region. I do not say that lightly. I went there for dinner a few weeks ago with my parents and each different item we ordered was well-prepared with delicious sides and unique sauces and seasonings. The chicken cordon bleu was tender and perfect. The side vegetables were aromatic, fresh, perfectly cooked, and the green chile stew was fantastic. I was very very impressed. Further, each of the wines the table ordered was delicious and reasonably priced. The server was very knowledgable about both the wine and the menu and gave our table the right amount of attention. I highly recommend this restaurant. It was clean and comfortable. We were there on a Thursday night (perhaps a slow night in Alamogordo) and I was confused why Stella Vita was almost empty. Be warned that this is a fancier/more expensive restaurant than is common in the region but the food I ate during our visit was as good as I've had at fine dining big city restaurants. I will return.

The male host was the best part of the restaurant for me, he was friendly and personable. Our waitress did everything right but was so... Cold and withheld and it was just blah. Made our experience not as enjoyable because she was so stiff. My husband had the duck and loved it, I tried it and have had way better in Alaska. And I really like duck. My creamy tomato soup was not hot and I hated the taste. I couldn't eat it and the waitress ignored the fact that I sent it back full. She also tried to make us think ice cream wasn't included until one of our people said something and kept prying. Their ice cream was small, tasteless and foamy. I would go back and hope for a different waitress and try a steak or special. I had the cordon blue and the veggies tasted all like tomatoes and the sauces were good but the chicken was dry as was the ham. Thank god for the sauce!!! Based on how my hubby was happy with his is getting them more stars than I would usually give.

Great food! I went for lunch, so I can't really speak on dinner, which based on the look of the place, is what they're known for. The menu is smaller, but still has plenty of options. I find that to be great, because it means they focus their attention on fewer items, making them the best that they can. The food was delicious, no complaints in that department, and lunch was a fair and reasonable price. The only slight issue I saw, was there was only one waitress taking care of everyone, and there was 7-8 tables to accommodate. This led to slightly behind service, but, I wasn't in any rush, so it didn't affect me...this time.

Completely overrated due to lack of competition. The service here has been consistently poor (received wrong items, missing items, slow, and rude) and the food is average at best. I understand this is small town NM but that should not mean there should be a lack of floor or incomplete flavor profiles and charge at a rate closer to haute cuisine. The only reason I gave an extra star is because they do seem to use fresh ingredients and seem to somewhat care about their product. It just isn't as good as they want your wallet to believe.

Very good for special occasions. Service is brisk and polite. Although there were way too many forks, knives and spoons, even a low brow guy like me was made to feel comfortable. I've been three times now and I can safely say they are consistently excellent. This is the place for your romantic encounter...

SUCKS!! I get it. I get it. We are in small town NM, but give me a break. If you want to charge fine restaurant prices maybe you could have remotely decent service and food. Our steaks were over cooked by 2 full temps and the service was poor and slow. No wonder the place was empty. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY.

Friends tried it, said it was OK but WAY too expensive! Cost them $75 for dinner for the two of them. Brought me doggie bag; good but not great, and nowhere near worth the price.

After a outing to the Cherry Festival in High Rolls and sometime spent walking around the town of Cloudcroft, we stopped at Stella Vita for dinner before continuing home. Our stop for dinner was an excellent choice. The waiter/waitress staff was friendly and definitely on the ball. We started our dinner with an order of homemade breadsticks served with marinara sauce. They were very tasty. Our meals, one crab cake entree and two sirloin steak entrees. The crab cakes were delicious and the sirloins were both cooked as ordered and served with an excellent rosemary, thyme, and peppercorn sauce. All three entrees had a appealing presentation. We will definitely keep them in mind when choosing dining in Alamagordo.

The interior design is very nice - modern and spartan. Service is outstanding. Steaks are good, but stay away from the seafood!!!! One person in our party had the salmon and got serious food poisoning. Within 12 hours he got intense diarrhea which lasted five days. He lost his job in the oil fields because he was too weak to work. The kitchen is clearly not following adequate food safety guidelines. Even though no one got sick from the steak, I'm never going back.

Very nice addition to Alamogordo for a nice dinner. Can't even tell you are IN Alamogordo once inside. Feels upscale and warm. Alamogordo def needs more places like this! The only criticisms by myself and husband were that we were asked if we were ready to order before ever being offered anything from the wine list, which seemed odd since they have an outstanding variety of local and international wines. Secondly, the salmon was a tad overdone and, no fault of theirs, used a fish rub that had something in it that I'm allergic to. The waitress offered to have another cooked without seasoning so that was impressive.

I love to find this kind of gem hidden in small towns. My traveling companions and I all enjoyed our meal. Stella Vita compares well to restaurants in much bigger towns and cities, and considering the remote location deserves five stars. Interesting and delicious menu choices--try the stuffed mushrooms and the duck, both were yummy--and a good wine selection, including several interesting choices by the glass. Service was friendly and competent, decor somewhat spartan but ambiance nevertheless new, crisp and refined. Alamogordo, you have a real winner here, I hope you support it so it will continue to thrive.

We ate here yesterday for Valentine's Day and I have to say, for the price I was pretty disappointed. Since it was a holiday the restaurant was operating off of a menu that was condensed so the options were limited. Our bruschetta duo with spinach and artichoke dip as well as shrimp bruschetta was ok, but cold. Even though there was barely anyone in the restaurant during our 8:30pm reservation, the service was incredibly slow. Our dinner salads were very basic and lacked flavor, and we were told about 30 minutes after ordering that the kitchen ran out of mashed potatoes. We picked a different side and I was surprised to see that we were not compensated somehow on our bill for that inconvenience. I ordered the Chicken Marsala and it was far too sweet and was seriously overdone. My husband ordered a steak which he said was fantastic and I would have to agree. Dessert was fantastic, however, which was the redeeming aspect of the night. About an hour prior to leaving the staff became pretty laid back and unprofessional, dancing around, huddled around talking, and not paying much attention to their customers. I was very surprised to see this kind of behavior at a nice(r) restaurant and am surprised a manager wasn't there to intervene. All and all I'd go back when they have their full menu, but I certainly wouldn't make this a frequent date night stop.

Great food that is made FRESH daily. Just an awesome experience, and the one bright spot in this crap hole of a town! If you want something different than the usual chain and fast food places, try this.

Nice place in the old business district. Came for lunch on Tuesday and the place was full by 11:30, so get there early. Service was great, very friendly staff. I had the green chili soup, which was very bland and wife had side salad that was supposed to come with the dressing on the side (it didn't). Those are the reasons for one less star. The sirloin steak with Merlot reduction was fantastic, wife's Chicken Marsala was also great. We would have liked to try the dinner menu, but I guess that will be next trip. In Alamogordo, this is THE top fancy restaurant.

In any large city this would be a very good restaurant. In a town like Alamogordo it's astonishing.

Over Thanksgiving 2011 we came from California and stayed in Alamogordo for 2 nights and had dinner here. What a great experience! We enjoyed everything from the bread with olive oil & balsamic vinegar to start with, to the server who was very accommodating and polite, to the entree and the dessert. Our daughter is a vegetarian, so the chef fixed a wonderful vegetarian pasta off the menu for her. I had a pork chop and my husband had rib eye. Both the pork chop and rib eye were flavorful and very tasty, and the garlic mashed potato were to die for. Our daughter got so full, but she wanted to try their dessert because everything we had was delicious, so she got chocolate cake. She loved it and finished it all. The ambiance is really nice with high ceiling and beautiful autumn flower decorations. The bathroom was so clean & smelled good. (that's very important!) We just loved our experience here and definitely would come back if we visit again.

This restaurant would hold up to anything in NY. Food was excellent. You would never know you were in a tiny town until you walk outside.
