Hitch-N-Post BBQ Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

The BBQ was moist and flavorful, the menu is kinda short. Maybe it's grown since we were there. But my wife and I won't be returning. It's not the food, it's the people, or perhaps, a person. When we went to place our order, a man made a highly inappropriate comment about the writing on my wife's shirt, which I won't get in to. We almost walked out. The man apologized for his attempt at a joke which had fallen so badly flat, so we went ahead and ate there. But since then, we'll probably stick with Sunset Run for BBQ for their more diverse menu and less offensive staff.

This is a good basic quick-service barbecue restaurant. The choices are brisket, pulled pork, and sausage, offered as sandwiches or combo plates, with one side (potato salad, beans, or cole slaw). The meat is smoky and moist. At each table you get a choice of Sissy Sauce (extremely mild) or Boss Sauce (still mild, but with a lot of ground black pepper mixed in). The place has a cowboy motif, with pine paneling and lots of knick-knacks along the walls, and the menu is chalked on a large blackboard mounted next to the order window.

On several previous visits to New Mexico I never timed it right to have lunch at the Hitch-N-Post. But on my recent visit I finally made it. The menu is not extensive but more than adequate to provide variety. The food was very good! And I must confess I was partial to the Sissy Sauce! Will definitely try stop by on return visits.

Not really good We like southern style sweet sauce cooked on moist brisket. This was smoked, tough and not good.

Decent BBQ. Not the best, but definitely decent. Standard BBQ joint menu, three meats - brisket, pulled pork and sausage - sides - including a tasty green chile stew - but this place will wrap your meat in a tortilla and call it a burrito. The BBQ sauce on the table is good. The boss spicy sauce is pretty mild, so I can only imagine how wimpy the "sissy" sauce is. But still good. And not that it really matters, but the staff is pretty friendly and seem genuinely glad you stopped by. I don't care too much about that stuff, but some people do. As far as I care, I could be greeted by the surliest waitress that would obviously rather be making out with her boyfriend in the alley behind the dumpster, as long as the food is decent and I don't have to wait all night.

Decent BBQ. I like places with small menus because it means they spend more time on less food items. Divvy but good overall!

Everything was pretty overall decent. Kind of a dive type of establishment. The food was okay though, the meat was pretty dry and not really flavorful. We had to soak it in the sauce (which isn't bad, not really spicy, but that's okay) and when combined, it allowed a nice complement. There are better ones around town, in my opinion, so...*sorry*

Normally pretty good barbeque. Today the sausage tasted old/leftover. Be careful what you order!

This is really good BBQ. Meat is moist and flavorful. Sauce is house-made. Potato salad is fresh. And don't forget the house-made ice cream. We asked for a mixed bowl so we could try all the flavors. I wish it stayed open just a little bit later for that after dinner sweet tooth. We will definitely make this our regular spot for BBQ.

Great BBQ! My hubby and I have eaten at the Hitch-N-Post several times since it opened, and couldn't be more impressed with the quality meat, tasty BBQ sauces, great sides, and friendly staff. Open for lunch and dinner, the staff shared that homemade ice cream will be joining the menu soon!

Overall this was a pretty disappointing trip to a Barbecue restaurant. While it has a great rating on yelp, the food was just ok. It's always disappointing when you know you could have made the food better than restaurant. One of my biggest issues was the meat plates, in theory it seems like a decent idea, you have the ability to get both brisket and pulled pork on the same plate and a side, etc. The problem is the servings are incredibly small. I got the medium and I'm not sure how they could have actually put less on the plate for the small. In addition to which, why does it come with a tortilla? It serves no purpose and you immediately just throw it to the side. The sides are just... meh. The meat itself was ok, but not in any way spectacular. The brisket was fairly dry with enormous globs of fat mixed into it. The pulled pork was much better, but still mediocre in my opinion. Surprisingly the only meat I didn't care about at all was the sausage, and it ended up being the tastiest of the meats. The problem with that is I was looking forward to barbecue, not sausage. The sauces: The Pork sauce is just disgustingly sweet pineapple sauce. The Boss Sauce is bland and tasteless with no spice at all to it, despite the name. The Sissy Sauce at least has some flavor to it. All in all, it's decent food, it's not disgusting by any stretch, but it's not impressive either.

When I walked in the Smoke smell hit me hard. Beautifully decorated, great service, but the chicken plate was a bit too dry and way over smoked. It upset my stomach. Instant bathroom trip. If I went again all I would order would be the apple cobbler. It was delicious.

Tasty barbeque. Green chili stew side was awesome. Very good and unique sauce. Owner and locals were nice and engaging. I will return my next time through Alamagordo

Overall tasty good BBQ, on par with Can't Stop Smoking. The interior is very interesting with all kinds of country adornments. The potato salad was fresh made and is as good as any I've had. Service was quick and polite. The spicy hot BBQ sauce was too sweet for my taste, but I know some people like this. Also on the con side is their limited menu. They have something I haven't seen before; 'Pork Sauce' which was good. For around $8 I got a large pulled pork sandwich, a side (you can also choose beans or slaw) and what I think was a 42 oz drink. I finished the other half of the pulled pork this morning. My stomach is happy...

I can't give this restaurant a star rating because we didn't actually eat here. While driving there my 2-year old son said he wanted corn and rolls, and I was sure they would have those items - it was a BBQ place after all - so I told him he could have them. I then looked for a website on my phone to find some kind of menu to confirm, but couldn't find anything online - pretty standard for Alamogordo restaurants. When we got there, we didn't see those items on the menu at all. I was going to order the pulled pork, and we were informed they were out of pork. My husband and I looked at each other and we walked out. The BBQ here might be amazing, but they didn't have any of the items we specifically wanted. We are moving out of town this week, so there's a good chance we'll never know!
