I've been a few times and have never been disappointed. Today I stopped in this afternoon to enjoy their hamburger steak which is charbroiled. I love the actual grilled taste. Comes with a choice of vegetables, dinner roll, and potatoes of your style. They had some really good ice tea today too. For dessert I had the Zebra bar which is a brownie bar with cream cheese topping and slivered almonds and crystallized sugar. One slice will do you in, but its oh so good! Come hungry, you'll leave happy!

I ate here yesterday morning for breakfast. It was basic and good. I had their speical "county style scramble" with wheat toast. The gravy probably came from a can, but the eggs were very nice a fluffy. I really enjoyed the wheat toast, but thought for a place that sells homeade jams in jars at the front counter, that they should do better than smuckers jelly squares on the table. Don't go here looking for an exciting breakfast, but it is good for the price.

I've lived in Bellevue for 30+ years and have been a long time customer of Summer Kitchen. I have to say that the food is generally good (although sometimes it arrives cold) but what has prompted the rating is is the atmosphere...it's gone down the tubes. The last 3 times we've gone there, there have been families with younger children that were simply allowed to be 'out of control'. I am a mother of 3 so I understand that kids can be challenging sometimes but the SK staff allows this chaos to occur and does nothing to stop the madness. The time of day or day of the week doesn't seem to impact the lack of interest that the staff has in making 'all' their guests comfortable. If we wanted to enjoy our meal within the atmosphere more closely associated with Ch**ky Cheeze then we'd go there. But, when you go to a restaurant like Summer Kitchen and pay an above average amount for average quality food one might expect that you could carry on a conversation without shrieking children that are running through the place. Behavior like this does not seem to bother the wait staff as these hooligans almost tripped several of them. Since this is the 3rd time this has happened one can only assume that the management has instructed the wait staff to ignore this type of behavior. Well, from my perspective...there's other places not far away that have better atmosphere and have 'as good' or better food. So, I will get take out bakery items but I won't be dining in again. As my multiple conversations on separate occasions with SK staff were disregarded I find it necessary to provide this review to alert those who prefer a more civil dining experience to what they might expect. So, enter this place at your own risk. Or, if you're in the mood to enjoy a mostly average meal with the unruly breeders...enjoy!

I have been a long time customer of many years of Summer Kitchen, we just don't get to them all that often. I was a bit surprised that they were so slow. We both went for breakfast. I had a Chicken omelette and a pancake, Jonny had a ham/eggs benedict dish. Very hot, fresh food. I am a stubborn pancake man, hard to please. Although the food was hot and fresh and I LOVED my omelette, the pancake was just blah. Very unremarkable. The service was very as efficient and astute. I don't know why I get so wired up when we are asked (when sitting next to each other) if our bill is together or separate. I guess it is because I don't see or hear them asking that question to male/female customers. Prices were good, food was great and service was good. I will come back for sure and would send friends, family there and know they would be good. The restaurant was very clean and in good condition. Good job!

ONLY ONE STAR DUE TO THE AWFUL SERVICE WE REC'D!! My spouse ordered a side salad with his Reuben and the waitress brought french fries on his plate. We alerted her to the mistake. She came out with the side salad and an empty plate. She then began to scoop the french fries off his plate onto the empty plate with her bare hands & return to the kitchen. WE WERE APPALLED she did this!! My only mistake was NOT telling the mgmt. WE'LL NEVER GO BACK because of the service...too bad, too, because the food was good.

I've only eaten the breakfast foods and bakery items. Breakfast is amazing, great hash browns. Service here was not so friendly in the past, but it seems their servers have improved. Great server's lately.

We've been to Summer Kitchen about five times over four years of visits to Bellevue, always for breakfast, and it's always good. This place has the best hash browns I've ever eaten, and it's the reason we keep coming back. My sister-in-law loves the pecan rolls. My only crit is that they don't have "real" link sausage.

Good place for breakfast. Food is fresh, friendly staff and clean, pleasant atmosphere. Popular with families, so be prepared for noise.

We tried this place for breakfast and were very satisfied with the meal. I'd describe it as a step or two up from Denny's and IHOP. The menu is extensive and the serving sizes are not too big, not too small. Summer Kitchen is a "Cafe and Bakery" and make most of the breads they serve--my toast was excellent, and the array of cookies and desserts at the entrance very enticing. I had over-easy eggs (fried perfectly), hash browns (I like them browner, but they were real potatoes, not pre-formed slabs), and bacon (thin and crisp). They do serve espresso drinks (a Scooter's is attached); we had regular coffee and while it wasn't great, the wait staff kept the mugs full. All the staff were very friendly and accommodating. They obviously have lots of regulars. Overall, a good place for a casual meal. I'd like to go back and try the homemade raisin bread french toast.

I've only been through the drive-thru a couple times, but I have to say this place has one of the best tuna melts i've ever had. If you are a tuna melt connoisseur like me, than you know they are pretty rare to find in the Midwest. This one is loaded with egg, cheddar cheese, and served on marble rye. Tuna melt is best served on marble rye. If you get the fresh fruit, it served on the rind. Their crinkle cut french fries get a tad soggy from being inside the styrofoam box. If you are using the drive-thru, be aware that it may take longer to get food, as it's being prepared fresh. My only gripe about this place is that there delicious bakery case is not on the drive-thru menu. It's well worth it to go inside and look at all the goodies. Their large iced sugar cookies are to die for.

It's a Village Inn or Denny's, but locally owned and operated. Food is mostly "comfort food" and as a result attracts an older crowd. Nothing here is going to win an award for culinary excellence or originality, but it is solid food at a fair price. Service is always friendly if not particularly attentive. They do have a nice selection of baked goods as well. So, be sure to try one of their muffins, rolls, bars, cookies, or cakes. This location also has a Scooter's Coffeehouse in it. (as well as a drive-thru).

Some of their food is great and other items suck. Their breakfast in the drive thru... pretty much sucks. But they have a good menu inside. The breakfast.... is about $3 more expensive than other breakfast places but their dinners or lunches are averaged priced... and they have pretty good portions. As stated above... some of the food items are great! So, when I go- I pretty much stick to the handful of items that I enjoy rather than explore with this place.

Have been here many many times and never bad service or bad food. The cherry almond muffin should be tried by everyone. Have had many things in their menu and enjoyed all of them.

I have visited this restaurant several times and have been pleased until recently. My last couple of visits have been disappointing. Two weeks ago potato casserole was loaded with burnt dried out potatoes but I have given them another try and it was good, everyone's entitled to a bad day.

This place is very good. I ordered the Omaha Potato Casserole because I haven't had one for a while and while I was visiting Omaha and not able to make it to the "other" cafe that serves them up, it sounded like a good idea. And It was. It was very tasty, well cooked, just could have used a little more seasoning. I ordered it with a cherry almond muffin on the side and that muffin was heavenly. The tartness of the cherries was a perfect complement to the sugar granuled topping and crunchy almonds. I would recommend that one 100% of the time. My friend ordered the chicken fried steak (she said that's what she always orders) and it looked pretty good too.

Perfect place in the area to get breakfast. I don't think anything we ordered made us go "wow this is the best xyz we have ever had." But everything was completely satisfying and no one in my party of 12 left complaining. The waitress was great despite her broken leg (yes she was hobbling around on a brace and still did better than a lot of area waitresses I have experienced). One person in our group had a baked casserole breakfast dish that was fantastic. My family was passing through town on another occasion and it was the perfect location for a long pre-departure breakfast for 8 people. We didn't feel rushed or that we were a burden for being there so long. I really appreciated that and made sure the tip reflected the fact that we knew we over stayed but you know how family can get. It's easy to find, easy to park and even when its busy its fairly brisk service. You won't be blown away but you'll also never be disappointed in the breakfast food. A solid choice on any morning when you are waffling.

One thing I will say about this place, the service is outstanding. Every server I've experienced has been knowledgeable, personable, and attentive. They offer a wide variety of items on their menu including breakfast, sandwiches/salads, to hearty comfort food dinners (meatloaf, hot turkey sandwich, chicken fried steak, etc). Some of their food is pretty lackluster. I find their biscuits are gravy to be pretty bland and their potatoes to be overcooked in oil. One thing they do extremely well is their huge selection on bakery items. Their cherry almond muffin is one of the best I've ever had and is a must every time I stop in. If you're looking for a delicious reasonably priced bakery, then check them out. If you're looking for a great brunch, there are lots of other places I would rather go.

I am obsessed with breakfast food so I am a pretty hard critic, otherwise this would have probably gotten five stars. I have only eaten here once, so I haven't been able to form much of an opinion at this point. But the experience I did have was great. The atmosphere was quiet, much quieter than you usually encounter in brunch restaurants. The service was great and the server really seemed to know the menu inside and out. I got the Quiche which is only available Tuesdays and Thursdays it is served with a muffin and a cup of soup. I tried the blueberry muffin and the clam chowder soup. The quiche was delicious! I have never had a quiche that I didn't like, so that probably isn't saying much. It was topped with hollandaise sauce, so that was a plus. I will definitely go back again!

I've seen this place several times before and finally decided to try it out. I'm glad I did. The place is clean, the staff is friendly, and the food is good. I had a club sandwich with a bowl of chili and both were great. They also serve breakfast food, and this place would be a much more comfortable alternative to IHOP.

This is a solid breakfast place. Recommended to me by some local coworkers, I made sure to visit when I was in town. Freshly made breakfast entrees were better than the nearby IHOP I went to on the first day, and the portions were more than generous. Eggs tasted farm fresh, and the pancakes were delicious. The server I had both days, Tracy, was absolutely delightful, very prompt, and ensured everything was to our liking.

Dropped in to get a couple muffins for my daughter. The low fat angel food cake and the raspberry. Both of them were awesome! Good work.

My wife and I tried out the Summer Kitchen after a day exploring apple country (Nebraska City). We were ready for authentic Midwest cuisine. I had the fried fish, she had one of their potato casseroles (which I sampled). The potato casserole rates a "fantastic." The blend of ingredients work well, and the medium size is plenty for a good appetite. It's cooked just long enough to keep cheese melted without anything getting overdone or soggy. The fried fish was pretty standard and reliable for a family style restaurant -- a step above Mrs. Paul's, but nothing exceptional. Our concern with any restaurant is how vegetarian-friendly it is. Summer Kitchen does well in that regard, with plenty of options including potato casserole possibilities.

Good food, good service, reasonable prices & excellent bakery items. There is a Scooter's within the restaurant so excellent coffee is always available too!

Authentic home-cooked-style food. Pancakes were irregularly shaped, and contained blueberries the size of my thumb. Real food, cooked by real people, not pre-formed frozen stuff heated up in a pan. Potatoes taste potato-y, and everything's made from scratch. Service was good, in spite of it being crowded when we went. Clean, comfortable atmosphere, great for families. Prices were in line with nearby sit-down chain restaurants like IHOP, and a good value.

Great place for any of the three meals of the day. Breakfast is straightforward and reasonably priced. The grilled cheese was actually too cheesy, if that's possible. But I'm in love with their Balsamic chicken salad. Perfect for a summer day. And their dinner rolls are rich, buttery, and slightly sweet, very addictive. And the bread pudding with cream is the best.

Went here after the Veterans Day parade with a bunch of biker buddies. They were busy, but we didn't have to wait forever for a table to open up. Everyone was extremely friendly. The food was great, and reasonably priced. The service was also very good. There's lot of variety on the menu, so it's probably a good place to bring kids or a group of people with different tastes.
