I have always wanted to try this shop. Now I am sorry I did. It is worse then hospital food! The Meatloaf/Mashed Potatoes was Dry With No flavor. And such a small size for the price. I will not recommend this at all, yuck!

This place is decent. It's cute, with its decor and bright environment. The ingredients taste fresh. However, it is quite pricy. It was around $7 for half of a sandwich. That's normally what I would pay for a whole sandwich. But, the place isn't bad.

It is nice to have a place right downtown to get soups, sandwiches, deserts and to be able to buy bread, cold cuts, pasta salads and cheese. Nice atmospher and not too expensive. Earlier and later hours would be nice. I have not had their specialty coffee yet. I a looking forward to exploring the menu.

Good - very tasty food! I love their homemade chips, and the herb sauce they make in house definitely adds the zip to the sandwich. I usually get sourdough and the two times I have eaten here I got a salad - chicken and tuna sandwiches - and both were a bit annoying to eat, and would have been embarrassing if I hadn't gotten them to go. So I understand what some others are saying, but I guess I am more about taste. They don't use a ton of salt, they use actual seasoning/herbs, so possibly a person would find some things bland because they are really wanting salt rather than flavor. I will get a 'normal' sandwich when I eat in next time, and I am sure that will be easier to eat. Most salad-based sandwiches are a bit goopy - lets you know they piled it on, haha! OH! - The PICKLES ARE DELICIOUS!

Even though Scratch is right across the street from where I work, both of my experiences have been outside the restaurant via delivered catering. Both of my sandwiches were great, due to the high quality ingredients. One sandwich was a build your own turkey and the other was the Bacon Chicken Scratch. The accompanying chips and pickles were excellent. I've had a good cookie as well and look forward to trying all of the other sweets they carry. You should really stop into Scratch someday and check out the baked goods, sandwich/salads/soups, and the deli counter options. This new restaurant is really a nice addition to this block on Broadway.

My wife and I were... interested. We visited Scratch the night of the Fargo-Moorhead Christmas light parade and sampled a few different offerings while we waited for the show to start (and to pay to have a place to hide from the cold). The chicken rice soup was AMAZING. Sadly, nothing else was. The chili was weirdly sweet and we quit eating it. Too bizarre. Everything else was just kind of bland. Ham, green beans... I don't remember what else we had and I should have taken notes to remind myself. They make a big deal out of offering French pressed coffee, but that's just a brewing method. It doesn't mean anything if you're not using good beans. I'm a coffee-holic, but even with as cold as it was outside it wasn't worth drinking. I need to stress that it's not a *bad* place... it's just not very good, either. It tastes like food from an average home cook that has a little difficulty in scaling up for restaurant levels. If my wife and I had made food like at home, that would be fine. But when I'm paying for the experience, I'm looking for a little bit more.

Sandwhiches are great if you get one, chili has a sweetness to it which is different but does have spice. Definitely a midwest mild chili also sweet taste. Specials are ok stuff you could make at home. My suggestion to this place become a breakfast sandwich open a bit earlier and make scratch biscuits and gravy as a specialty

Meh. I had chicken salad sandwich and soup. Sandwich was impossible to pick up and eat because the bread was so small, soft and thick and chicken was in big square pieces. My friend had the same problem with her sandwich and she didn't eat her pesto noodle salad saying it was bland and funny tasting. Nicole's is a better option!

It was okay. Not bad, not great, just average. I had the Italian Stallion sandwich and Pesto Pasta. Service was fast. Meats and cheeses tasted fresh, but the bread was a little too thick and slightly dry. I probably won't be back, but if someone I was with suggested it I would try it again.

Delicious. Had the tuna salad salad and a broccoli salad. The tuna had little perks (like freshly grated romano and real pieces of veggies). The broccoli salad was fresh and tasty. it had all the little extras -- red onion, sunflower seeds, etc. The sweet/sour pickles...mmmmmm. We'll totally come back. I want to try some of the baked goods; I just didn't have room today. Everything was fresh and high quality. The building used to have a different sandwich place, which I was not impressed with. I was a little hesitant to come. This is 100% a different place, it was updated, busy, clean, and actually looked much trendier. A lot of work went into this. I hope they stay like this. Scratch, please be consistent. That's always my fear with a new restaurant.

In Fargo for business, I came to Scratch on the recommendation of a vendor. The interior is cafe trendy and the large print words wallpaper is a little much for me, thank god there wasn't portraits of veggies or meat. However when you walk in, the aroma from the food totally diverts you to the counter to check out the goods. Down to business. I had the Italian stallion on a Black Forest rye, delicious. Bread was pillow soft, meat tastes fresh, and a very hardy portion. The Vegetable beef soup broth was perfectly savory. Only trouble are the larger than bite size chunks of potato and only two wee pieces of beef. That said, I wasn't disappointed. It definitely had a hand crafted flavor and was welcome on a windy cool day. Now the rhubarb pie. Don't mess around. Get it. I ended up eating it before my lunch, when I intended to only taste it. I was actually a little miffed I shared it with my peer. Overall, a clean shop, with friendly service, great aromas and unpretentious, honest food. Perfect lunch spot.

I liked this place, although there is room for improvement. The chili had a sweet & spicy taste as other reviews mentioned, but I thought it was delicious! The chicken salad sandwich was hard to eat, the bread crust was chewy & chicken chunks large, so the whole thing fell apart. The carrot cake was very good, tasted fresh, and had the perfect amount of frosting. For a lunch spot, this place is a bit pricer. I'll be back but this won't be a go-to spot.

I have eaten here a couple times. I really wanted to like it as it is one of only a handful of establishments in the Fargo/Moorhead that ISN'T a franchise or chain. The first time I went I got the turkey and mashed potato special. The food was good but the woman that handled my food and the slice of bread also rung me up and handled money with gloves on, then asked what the next person behind me wanted while still wearing the same pair of gloves. I did not eat my piece of bread as I have no idea how long she had handled food and money with the same pair of gloves previous to me coming in. Second time I got the lasagna special and a bowl of chili and the total was over $12 (!!). The lasagna was not cut fresh for my order, but was instead picked from a bunch of pre-prepared plastic to go containers that were sitting in a heat display. As a result, the lasagna was dry around most of the edges. As a previous review states, the chili is weirdly sweet and just did not taste good. I ended up finishing halfway before I gave up on it and threw the rest away. Chili should not be sweet, it should have a hot kick to it. Not very impressed...was going to give it 2 stars, but I'm giving them 3 because they are not a chain and are still relatively new so maybe haven't worked out all the kinks yet. Might return a 3rd time to give them a chance before 3 strikes your out, but I don't know...

Their food is soooooo good. My only complaint is their salads; I've tried 3 of them and they were all way too vinegary for my taste, but that could just be my preference. Otherwise, all of their food is great and their staff is friendly and helpful.
