This place offers some pretty solid, though not spectacular, Mexican food - well, more Tex-Mex than anything else. The location is in a small, worn strip center, but the interior of the restaurant is bright, clean, and well decorated. We tried the Carnitas Fijitas ($7.89), a lunch special combo ($6.49) with a ground beef burrito and a chicken enchilada, rice & beans. Also ordered a Beef Chili Relleno ($3.49), a little pricey but a very, very good version. Everything was solid, though the carnitas were not cooked as well as some others we've had. The salsa here is just ok, there is no real kick to it, at all. The service was outstanding - friendly and efficient. Not exactly a destination place for Mexican food, but would stop in again if in the area.

Mexican food is one of my favorite. So I did really enjoy my time spent there!!! They got really professional service. Waiters are polite and always know what to advice to the customers. And of course the main reason I am giving this place five stars is their delicious food:)) P.S. their cooks might be magicians to make the food so tasty.

Delicious enchiladas! Fresh ingredients and friendly staff. Tons of families come here after church on Sunday. Really kind atmosphere. Great stop for lunch if you're driving west from the GSO airport! We have made it a tradition. :)

I like Mexican food so I have ordered from here several times. I really enjoy the Xango dessert and would recommend it. The fish taco isn't what I expected. It's merely some fish in soft taco with nothing else. It's bland and nothing much to it. I like the fajitas however they are very stingy with the shrimp and usually only give you a few. In addition they mix the hot and cold toppings in one container which isn't helpful if you have any leftovers and want to heat them up. This food is okay for Mexican food but definitely not authentic.

Ok, I know I've reviewed them before but you have to give them credit for consistency. Our food was great, served quickly, the waitress was super friendly. Our whole family loves this place. We drive by 6-10 other Mexican places that are closer to go to Pelenque and will continue to do so.

My wife and I were brought here by a friend who kept telling us, "It's better than Don Juan's" (it's not), so we finally came with him. We both got the equivalent of the food we get at other Mexican restaurants - I got the chicken chimichanga, she got the veggie ACP. She was extremely disappointed in hers - it was loaded with just onions and peppers, with only a few slivers of mushrooms & zucchini, while at other restaurants, there tends to be a more equal distribution of the veggies. The chicken chimichanga was not bad at all, but it was more a lot more bread and a lot less cheese than I prefer in these. The tea was good though - I've found most Mexican restaurants have good tea. Overall, it was just "okay," and I would rather go back to Don Juan's.

If you rate this low, then you don't know what to order. ACP is top notch and pico digio is best around. I lived in AZ for a while and have had a lot to choose from. This topssssss

This place is miles ahead of where it once was... It's clean and has an inviting atmosphere. The service is great and the food is reasonably priced... It is the best Mexican restaurant between Kernersville and walkertown... Oh, and a nice little side note... Their margaritas will knock you down :)

Outstanding food and top-notch service. A great casual dining experience. Family friendly and extensive menu to choose from. Plus Marguerita, Pina Colada, Beer and more... Yummy!

This would be a 4 star rating if not for a couple of bad experiences. COLD food last time! Waiter looked at us like we were nuts, but both my wife and I were served cold food. It came out in like 5 minutes. I'm not here for fast food! Yet I still keep coming back because when they get it right this place is very good. They rush you too much and the counter can be a mad house. Good beer specials. Overall a 3 1/2 star review.

Excellent food - I always have liked the menu at El Maguey and this is the same. Try the Pollo Jalisco or Pollo Sinaloense. Ask for Oscar to be your waiter.

This is a great "formula-type" Mexican food place. They are charming, friendly, hospitable and the food is good. I love the new management and the decor is always an important part of my dining experience. There's is not cliche Mexican decor, which I love. My suggestion to all those who had a bad experience, with perhaps dishes like ACP is... try something else. Go back this winter and have their chicken soup. It is like grandma used to make. It will cure your cold and tantilize your taste buds. Heck, I have had it when it wasn't winter. Be bold. Experiment... ACP is... not a real dish anyway.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
