Great food, service and atmosphere. We started with the calamari. It was lightly breaded with a great flavor. My entree was the Scallops Carbonara. 3 large scallops on a bed of egg noodles with a tasty cream sauce. My wife had the Salted Salmon which she enjoyed. Our waitress, Julie, was friendly and attentive. We really enjoyed our outdoor table as well as the live music.

Let me preface my review by saying that we went on a Monday night after a busy August weekend. The two entre's we wanted.... we not available. My companion ordered the three day brined chicken touted as moist and fall off the bone good. It was neither. It was dry, tough and tasteless. Because nothing on the main course menu interested me when my two preferred options were not available, I opted for fish chowder and a salad. To get any flavor from the chowder I had to add about a tsp. of salt. When we noted these issues to the manager, he graciously removed the charge for the chicken. Yet another event... we had ordered a very nice $55 wine (reasonably priced, I might add) and our waitress poured about $15 worth on the table. Can't say I would give this place another try.

We had been 2 other times and I reordered the scallops which I had liked before. They were served with green peas that were obviously leftover as they were all wrinkled and Dried out. The rice was leftover too as it was Not sticky rice but was reheated and dry. Our guests ordered the special salmon and one got the wrong order so we had to wait while it was made. Both guests said it wS only " so so" and dried out salmon. We won't go back.

OK, so I am always leery when I go to a seafood place that is 1000 miles from the ocean.... I went here with two other friends from Whitefish looking for fish options. We started with the Crabby Green Tomatoes which were quite tasty!! For mains we found the Salmon and the Miso Butterfish where excellent..... We also tried the Grilled Pork Chop which was nice and moist and good with the BBQ sauce. They have a decent wine list. .... I missed out on the chocolate cake because it was all sold out 8-(. There are several other fish options on the menu including Maine lobster and oysters....... hope to check these out in the future. (still a bit leery about these? but our first experience was good!) The space is open and loud ... many hard surfaces. They have an outside patio which would be good in the summer. Seems like the place would be cold in the Winter...... needs something to soften the interior to make it more pleasant. Overall a good experience was had ...... check it out!!

They must have had an off night because we cannot remember having a worse experience in a restaurant. We were a large party with 5 children and lots of adults. They did not even take our order or bring by hush puppies (their version of a bread basket) for almost an hour. For some reason, the waiter put the kids order in way before the adults and their food arrived 45 minutes later. None of the kids liked their food - 2 greasy fish sticks on top of a handful of French fries. By the time they got their food, they were all ready to leave. Our food finally arrived 20-30 minutes later (at 9pm for a 6:45pm reservation!). The food was cold and the fish universally overlooked. The waiter NEVER offered the kids an ice cream or any dessert while we, out of sheer hunger, threw back our food in a hurry. In addition, they did not discount the outrageously expensive and decidedly awful meal. We were guests of a Montana resident who frequents this restaurant - too bad he couldn't been given better service for his family and friends. They were even out of their signature dish, the butterfish. The only reason they even got one star is for the glass of Pinot I nursed for 2.5 hours...I knew he'd never ask if I wanted another, but it was a good glass of wine!

Had the sun in my eyes cause they have no drapes. It's a garage. Lobster was $145 and was chewy and not tasty. I have been to nice restaurants in NYC and spent half that for better. Also need vegetarian options on the menu. Can't even get in your chair tables are so close together. Yikes.

Ate outside on the side patio, which is the way to go for sure. Inside looked crowded and bustling. Two of us only and we dropped $100 easy with only 1 round of drinks and a few apps and a seafood salad, but we knew that going in. We're in Montana for crying out loud of course seafood is going to be expensive. The oysters were great! Service was friendly, but nothing to write home to Mom about. Opted out of the $45 lobster. A little spoiled from having just eaten at Conti's in Maine the month before. I don't envy them their location, but their good word of mouth may help. Will be going there as much as the wallet allows.

I have now been to this place three times and each time is gets worse. Salads are way overdressed. For goodness sake not everyone wants the same amount of dressing. Common sense tells you to put it on the side. The Hush puppy things they bring are greasy and dry. Coffee is dreadful. I like strong coffee, but when the spoon can stand up in the cup on its own, need I say more. The cod and shrimp chowder was missing all the shrimp. No raw brown sugar of any kind for the coffee. Even starbucks have that. The Chocolate mousse was nice. Also just about every item on the menu is served with sticky rice or mash. neither of which we eat. Nothing healthier was offered instead of these two . The sun was shining right in our eyes and the tables are so close together you find yourself apologising to the poor guy behind when you try to move your chair. I am happy to pay a good price for good food, but this does not reach the standard of even good. I have eaten in local tiny cafes where the food is better. This place needs a good shake up. Will not be returning. You want good food try the Golf Club in Whitefish.

I was here visiting my family for the week and we were excited to try a delicious fish dinner. Once sat the waiter came up to us and told us about her specials for the night, All oysters specials. She then proceed to tell us about all the menu items they were out of because the seafood truck did not show up until the middle of service on Tuesday nights. She proceed to say she was embarrassed by how many items they did not have . So there was no lobster, scallops, crab cakes, crab legs and mussels and steamers. Well that was the majority of the menu. We ended up settling for items we did not want. The food was under seasoned. Rice was dry and old tasting. Rock fish was bland with no flavor. The shrimp also had no flavor. I have had some superb fish in Colorado and that is no where near the ocean. I figured since we were a bit closer I would get some superb items. I was wrong. Also, I am a chef for a company in Denver and know that if you are open for service you damn well better order enough food to get you through your next order or make sure to get those trucks to not come in the middle of your service. Talk to your suppliers..

Very sadly disappointed. Seating was problematic even though I had a reservation. I ordered 3 oysters to begin the meal; 4 came because "the chef shucked one too many." Fine, but they charged me for all four. I ordered an appetizer, but my entrée was delivered first. The miso butter fish--the house specialty--was mediocre at best. Don't come here expecting great; It's average at best.

Fine dining prices without a fine dining experience. We ate there last night; our second time there. Just like the first time, which was about a year ago, the service was a really big problem. Our waitress, Angelique, was too friendly at first. She tried too hard to sell us oysters. Two of the four of us said they did not like raw oysters and she actually said that they "weren't that kind of oyster." Her timing was bad throughout the meal. For example, she didn't give us enough time with the menu. Then she arrived at the table at one point, in the middle of us talking, and attempted to interject a joke or something. We all just awkwardly stopped talking for a few seconds, looked up and she said something like, "nothing like jumping into the middle of a story," as if she were seated with us and had just returned from the restroom. We had to ask repeatedly for bread ("hush puppies"). Lots of other tables had them -- where the other waiters were working. She explained the bread as if we were paying for it. I then asked the host to get us some and he had to help make it happen. The bread arrived in the middle of the appetizers. She poured the entire bottle of wine at one time, into 4 glasses. Never saw that before. She did it again with the second bottle but the wine was not poured evenly. Then she tried to grab an appetizer plate that still had food on it. She's like "Still working on this"? She again jumped into a story as she stood there. We were talking about a beach in Mexico and she walked up and said, "oh you can't go on the beach at night." She meant Whitefish City Beach. I said, "we are talking about a beach in Mexico." Awkward silence. We were halfway through our salads when she arrived with the entrees. The table was full, and we were still eating our salads, and she started grabbing the salad plates -- almost forcing us to stop eating our salads, which were overdressed. Then one of us didn't have a fork to eat his entree and we asked her twice for a new fork, and a couple minutes went by, she passed our table again and two of us loudly said, "fork"! No fork. Then I stood up and walked toward the staff, then asked our waiter if it was okay to just take a fork off another table. Kind of painful at that point and I think she started to see my frustration (we were all waiting on this fork to start our entrees). She never filled our waters without asking (well over half way through the entrees -- again, had to ask). The food was good. The hamachi crudo is delicious; my halibut was really good. The restaurant is loud. The acoustics are no good. Would give it 4 stars with better service. I paid $240 for this meal, and I expect much, much better service. At these prices, the staff should be much better trained at very basic service skills. I do not see us returning.

Not very good. Over priced. Cup of coffee was $3.50. The salmon was over-cooked. Small portions. They should stick to the real estate business. Won' t be going back or recommending this restaurant.

This is our favorite restaurant in the Flathead Valley. Great food - just pricey... Otherwise would get 5 stars. Appetizer - I don't usually like calamari - but this was stellar! Definitely start here. The coconut shrimp was also good. Entrees- The Miso Butterfish is delicious. Expensive, but freaking good. Also great was the Thai halibut. The Summer Scallops were also beautifully seared! This is another example of food I don't usually like, but here I really like it. Best is still the Butterfish.

Took a customer there Friday evening. The atmosphere, service and food were impeccable. I started off with a selection of oysters on the half shell followed by a steamed curry halibut and finishing with a chocolate mousse dessert. Others at my table enjoyed the lobster and Miso Butterfish. All of us raving about the food. Our waitress was professional and knew the menu inside out. This is where I will dine the next time I am in Whitefish, hands down it is top shelf.

It's a fancy restaurant with $25 entree average, $15 appetizer average. I tried halibut, black cod and Thai seafood. Miso butterfly cod is awesome! It's so fresh and melted in my mouth.

Great! Black cod was unbelievable & the calamari was the best I have ever had & I'm fro California.

Being from New England where seafood is plentiful I am picky about it. The menu is not large so they can concentrate on everything being fresh. our party had the butterfish which is incredibly flavor full, oysters were plump and juicy. as was the calamari. The snow crab was great tasting but far too much work for me.The crab cakes and stew were a meal... We only had room for 1 dessert and the key lime pie was perfect for 4 of us... our server Marco was well informed and a great salesman... We went on a Wednesday night in February. ..no crowds, no waiting. great seafood. ..great service...

This is definitely one of the top restaurants in Whitefish. The food is absolutely incredible, the service is impeccable and the atmosphere and decor is very styly. Its the kind of place you want to go back to and explore the menu because they have so many things the specialize in and do really, really well. For an appetizer I can't recommend the calimari enough - they marinate it in buttermilk for 48 hours and its some of the most tender, delicious calimari you'll ever have. That with the hush puppies with a side of honey butter was pretty amazing. I'm a huge oyster fan so I followed that up with a couple of Sake Oyster Shooters. Sake. Oyster. Shooters...so tasty, fresh, smooth = epic. Entrees consisted of fish tacos and their specialty Miso Butterfish, both with a side of lobster tails. You can pair your entrees with a selection of seafood such as lobster tail, king crab legs, and other goods. The fish tacos were super legit but the Butterfish stole the show. Its a Black cod marinated in a miso served over jasmine rice and a cold edamame salad. The fish was absolutely incredible, rich and flavorful yet light and tender. For dessert we were served huckleberry chreme brule that was just the cherry on top of an incredible dinner. Huckleberries are pretty much the bacon of berries and the kitchen at Stillwater are true artists and craftsman with these local berries as well as with their fish. This place is perfect for date night (get those oyster shooters!) or a family outing. The servers were really nice and very entertaining. I forgot the name of our server but he was doing these awesome napkin tricks that were hilarious.

Food is pretty good but overpriced...nothing original and the service has been terrible the three times I've been in. With all the great choices in the valley these days do yourself a favor and pick somewhere else.

We were referred here as we were just staying in Whitefish a few days. Restaurant was fun looking, hostess was friendly. Order taken promptly, drinks too. Then the nearly hour wait started. Halibut good...mash potatoes & summer squash sides were not. House salad good... Entree salad was marginal. Onion rings greasy and over cooked. Over all, not a great experience. Staff over worked and kitchen needs help in so many ways. If we lived here, would not return. Yes, we did speak with waitress and hostess re: concerns. Took rings off bill... I would say that manager needs to make some better decisions if this place wants to continue to do well. One hour is too long for anyone to wait for one fish plate and an entree salad that had little to recommend it.

So I at first excited to dine there, interesting dining room, big menus that you can see all of there choice offerings without turning a page. And a clean interesting to look at venue. And I can't say enough about this the plush padding under the table really got me going this restaurant really appeared, to pay attention to details..... So I had the crudo yellow tail that was not fresh and swimming in a noxious broth with jalapeño and pickled onions that obviously was there to confuses the dinner to the quality of this dish. least a total weights of an anorexic 2 oz portion, was given for about 15. The ahi poke was just plain old and prepared way ahead of time with slightly mushy fish cubes of fish lacking of at least the ginger juice, shoyu ,and fire water one expects from this fresh snack. sesame was in over drive with the seaweed salad .placed there to confuse the guest as if it was fresh and that the he just paid 18 bucks for tuna I would not feed the cat. The bumbling waiter was sorry that I did not like it left it for me till he brought another menu. The manger explained to me that the chef had made it today, and it would be taken from the bill, I told him it should be taken off the menu! So this really ruined my apatite and I had a bite of the carb cake, I tried to not spit it out, over breaded terrible texture and had the aroma that it should have been tossed a day earlier . The key lime pie was good though standard nelly and joe out the box recipe but. The French chocolate mousse had a niffty presentation if you where in the 90,s and it lacked the most important part the French ! The texture was worse that a first time box mix. I guess dining 7 times this week in whitefish someone had to be the loser and it was this evening.

Even though my review life is fairly new, I'm throwing a full 5 stars at this not so common seafood haunt in Montana. The Calamari was tender and truly great! If you like curry, this yellow seafood curry was also very tasty! Attentive and super friendly staff. Not a busy night. We were very happy we chose this spot.

Awesome restaurant just outside of whitefish. I'm a sucker for fish tacos and have to try them pretty much anywhere where they are on the menu. These did not disappoint. Fish was super fresh and the sauce had a nice kick. Creme brûlée for desert was amazing as well. If you like seafood, check this place out.

Mediocre review predominantly for not having their act together in the kitchen, and then handling somewhat poorly. Any couple items listed below would not be a big deal, but collectively left a sour taste. Keep in mind Stillwater is targeting the higher end and charging big boy prices (many $14-$17 apps). My biggest wag of the finger I'll list first, which is that as part of the make-good the manager removed the automatic gratuity for 6 or more. This unfairly places all blame and penalty on the server because we naturally added a decent tip back in. I've tried to be fair and give plenty of context. Here is the list of grievances: - Apps came out over 40 minutes after we ordered, and we had to ask their whereabouts. --- At this point the manager did apologize for the delay and say he would comp us some dessert "or something." But he also made a point of saying, when we mentioned we'd sat down an hour ago, that "after the wine service and ordering, it's only been about 40 minutes since the ticket went in (long pause) but you're right, that's not acceptable." --- Now, someone may have said we'd ordered an hour ago vs sat down, but, still, that kind of "let me correct you on that point" tone, however slight, is not what a table full of hungry diners wants in return. --- my hamachi crudo app was quite nice. - When the entrees arrived they hadn't cleared most of the starter plates yet, resulting in a kind of odd plate switching maneuver that only reinforced the notion they just didn't quite have it together on this particular night (a Monday). - Two of us ordered the same thing (salmon with smoked sea salt), yet the two dishes tasted completely different. --- One was drenched in honey, an ingredient not listed on the menu (nbd unless you're allergic, so that's not an official part of this complaint just maybe something they should think about including*). Also, the person who ordered it hates honey; so just a bad coincidence there assuming they normally put a lot of honey on the dish. The other had no honey (or very little; the preparation was sufficiently different that each thought the other had ordered something different), but was terribly overcooked. * The point is, if it has a lot of some ingredient, list that in the description. If it's just a minor accent on the dish, then don't drown the whole plate in it. --- They offered to recook the overdone salmon; but we've all been there - you get a plate when everyone else is on their last bites and it's already late. Nobody wins. - One salad with salmon also had terribly overcooked salmon. They brought a new salmon fillet (the replacement arrived magically fast) but it, too, was overcooked. - Our food had taken a while, so we ordered more wine. They informed us they were out of the wine we were drinking. Again, it's targeting a higher end clientele - if you sell your last bottle to a table of 7, tell them at the time they order it. Most tables with that many folks will probably consider a second bottle. (I will retract this if they can demonstrate they sold out of the wine during the considerable time that passed after we ordered bottle #1, which is entirely plausible given the glacial pace of the meal). - Water refills were few and far between. - They have 4 desserts; they were out of two of these by the time we ordered, somewhat diminishing the value of the dessert comp. They did remove two items from the bill, one salmon entree and then the side salmon that went with the salad. - Overall, they probably had the B or C team in the kitchen, and they just weren't on top of things. The dishes that came out fine (4 of 7 entrees) were pretty good (quality ingredients prepared as described and expected given the price). But that's not a strong ratio; it was our first experience, but and impression simply wasn't very favorable.

Great girls night out!! I sat at the oyster bar with my sister and my 9 yr old daughter who LOVES seafood. We shared everything and sitting at the Oyster Bar makes you feel like you have a personal server that talks you through everything on the menu. Good prices and free samples of wine and hush puppies flowed! They have 3 fryers and keep one designated for gluten free- big bonus. We had a dozen oysters and tried all their home made salsas and sauces- including a lemon and chive olive oil that helped those babies slide right outta the shell! It was my daughter's first time with oysters and she loved them. We had the Tuna Pokey, a side of crab cluster (like $8!) and the steamer sampler (the broth is to die for and I could have drank it with a straw). I topped it off with a sake oyster shooter and am now addicted. The key lime pie is a must and the Sauvignon Blanc is the perfect wine with it all! I'll definately be back every time we go to Whitefish MT. I give it 4 stars and not 5 just because it was a Sunday and not the fly-in day for fresh fish so I think it can be better but for Montana it was great and I had no qualms about anything raw for myself or my daughter.

Our first trip to Montana from L.A. We are used to very good cuisine living in WeHo. This place definately holds its own to any place at come. Ordered the black cod grilled, friends ordered halibut and salmon (blackened) ..All the fish was delightfully fresh and delicious served with "fresh" grilled veggies and carbs if desired. The calamari was the freshest and most tender I have ever tasted!! Service was wonderfully attentive filling up our on the house homemade hush puppies as necessary. The ambiance is delightfully casual yet sophisticated which lends to a wonderful meal. This is definately a Montana gem highly recommmended!!!

Although Stillwater is a new restaurant I have to say they offer a great menu and pretty darn good food. I may have given Stillwater 5-stars if our server wasn't struggling BIG TIME. The owner was on it and the chefs prepare and present wonderful food. The restaurant is noisy so if you're looking for a quiet dinner you may want to go somewhere else. However, if you're dining with a group of friends it's a great spot and they have fabulous deck seating if the weather permits.

Wow! What a great place. Whitefish has some great places and it's nice that this one can be included among the better restaurants in town, Great oysters, solid wines, and just a fun place to enjoy a good dinner on a warm summer night.

Fresh Kumomoto oysters, ahi poke', wonderful Hamachi appetizer consisting of amberjack yellowtail in Ponzu. The Oyster bar is the best seat in the house where you are able be served the full menu and view it's preparation. Ask Marco @ the oyster bar about the fleshly shucked oyster/sake shooter menu, "SHOYSTERS" There is an extensive wine menu, by the glass selections, great draft/bottle beer and sake!
