    Three words: canned green beans.

This is the best place to eat breakfast in Missoula. It may not be the best food (though it's pretty darn good), but the outstanding service and atmosphere are totally worth it. Basically anything on the breakfast menu is worth ordering, but I especially recommend a simple meal of eggs, hashbrowns, and toast. The oatmeal is also really good and comes with brown sugar and milk.

Ruby's has taken a turn for the worse since it changed hands a year ago. They used to have decent food, but the quality overall isn't as it used to be. The fried potatoes aren't fresh, the chili is canned and the gravy is bland. There's plenty of restaurants that serve a better meal in Missoula. The only reason that this rates 1 star is because of the wait staff.

Took a friend there for her birthday (her choice), ordered the corned beef and hash... It was canned. Don't understand why people like this place, I've gotten sick twice, the food is canned and bland. Maybe it's the service, they are hard working and very friendly.

We love this place! Old fashioned good food Most of the waitresses are older and very secure with their personalities !! We love them! It's bombed at lunch so wait awhile, you will be very happy u did !

The higher rating is due almost exclusively to the staff. The food is mediocre, but the prices are low. The environment and the staff are so pleasantly blue collar casual; it would be hard not to enjoy a coffee and eggs benedict in this 'Old Missoula' Diner.

Local hole in the wall that does a fine job on the basics. Has a decent Chicken Fried Steak made from scratch.

Not the highest quality food around, but it's cheap and it fills you up. The staff is very friendly and the food arrived quickly. It's a nice, locally owned restaurant that you should check out.

Well things have definitely changed at Ruby's. I started eating here over 10 years ago, and would have put their burgers and fries up against any other restaurant in Missoula (well the Missoula Club has the best burger in town, but I like my burgers with fries, and they do not do fries there). Great food, generous helpings. The good news about the new, smaller helpings is that it is for the best- it is virtually inedible. Once upon a time you would get a juicy, tasty burger on a toasted bun, fresh lettuce and tomatoes, and a pile of steaming delicious semi-thick fries that had the right amount of crisp but steamy and tender in the middle. Now the patty is some sort of mystery meat that escaped the glue factory, and the fries have been upgraded to those disgusting starch-coated pre-cooked "things" that almost sank Burger King. You know the ones, they look like they have lumps attached to them... I had not been in for 2 months (used to go 3-4 times a month) and went today for lunch. As I already knew the burger and fries were not an option, I ordered the corned beef hash with eggs. The hash here was always from a can (it is the rare diner that makes it from scratch) but it was a pretty generous helping cooked just right, with a little crunch on the outside. I was amazed at the thin layer of almost black, crispy corned beef hash I was served. My eggs over-easy were fine, apart from being almost completely raw. The entire yolk was still liquid. The hash browns tasted like the artificially-flavored oil they were cooked in. Luckily the toast was ok, but then again it is pretty hard to screw up wheat toast. Although considering the rest of the meal, I was surprised... At least the soda was good. But the meal was definitely not worth the new higher prices. That is twice I have been in since the new owners started improving things, and I won't be back.

A classic Missoula hangout. Have come here for 20+ years and has changed little over the years. A consistently great choice for any meal of the day. I'd highly recommend giving it a try!

Nice and clean but understaffed when we arrived at 11:15. Food preparation was fine, but creativity was lacking. I won't be back.

In short. If you stick to the breakfast menu you will not be disappointed, unless you are against America. In long. Everything on the breakfast menu is the best in the area. Yes, even better than your moms (I would know I just had breakfast at your moms house, she told me to tell you hi). My personal favorites are the omelets, followed by the biscuits and gravy. P.S. Stick to the breakfast menu.

Hard to believe but we had not been to Ruby's Cafe for about 5 years. The last time we went they had mashed potatoes out of a bag! That is pretty much sacrilege to a gal who grew up in Idaho. So we have been punishing them (darn it, they didn't even notice) and took our $9.99 elsewhere. However, we decided to try them for breakfast since my husband loves biscuits and gravy. The food was fairly priced but not out of this world good. I ordered vegi-browns and they didn't even put cheese on top, nor add vegetables except peppers and onions. However, everyone else must have better taste buds, because we had to stand in line. At least until we caught on that it is "seat yourself." The best part of the experience was seeing lots of friends there and joining a couple from church in sharing a booth. Will we got back? Probably. That many locals can't be wrong. But I won't order anything that has potatoes and expect it to be fresh and homemade. Judy Helm Wright aka "Auntie Artihcoke" Best selling author and international speaker

The first time we came here it was during lunch. We both ordered the roast beef, gravy potatoes and veggie. When it came out it was basically a giant plate of shoe leather with a can of corn and some instant mashed potatoes covered in some brown gloopy gravy. It was so bland and disgusting. My husband vowed to never go there again and I agreed, except I always give things a second chance and all the locals told us, that breakfast was the time to go. The next time we went I didnt expect much but they really showed me that I should have expected much much less! We waited nearly 15 minutes to be acknowledged at our table and then when we got our drinks it took them about 15 minutes to do so. The coffee was cold and bitter and my water glass had lipstick marks on it. No one apologized at all for the wait or anything. We finally ordered and half an hour later our order came. My eggs were under cooked, the hashbrowns were soft and greasy and the pancakes werent even cooked through! It was so gross. Then we had to wait up at the counter for another 10 minutes to pay while our waitress was out back having a smoke. One other waitress had to out and get her and she was pissed we ruined her smoke break. She also came back reeking like an ashtray and her hands were dirty. I dont know how these people stay in business

Two words..... PRIME RIB! FRI and SAT. The best priced and tasting prime rib in the valley. If you want food that will stick to your ribs you need to go here. I think one thing that stands out about Ruby's is that the owner makes it a point to work hand in hand with the staff. I have spotted him every time I have been in there.

Definitely no frills. You won't find anything fancy here. If you're looking for a diner, however, it's not a bad place to stop. The food is pretty good and definitely affordable. Overall, it's a pretty good place to grab some diner food.

Good burgers, great breakfasts...nothing fancy. A real diner, very laid back and casual. Many long-time regulars, almost a cult following.
