We had reservations for our family dinner out at Umi Japanese Steakhouse and Sushi Bar last Thursday and I have to tell you it was a really fun experience. It was our first time patronizing their restaurant. Upon arriving, there was a slight wait but since we had reservations, we were sat right away. Once we all took our seats, Skye introduced herself, made us feel welcome and turned out to be an amazing hostess! Our host Skye was friendly and amazing and our chef Leonard made us feel right at home as well as putting on an amazing show of culinary talents. Leonard was funny and had an amazing personality which really contributed to our experience that evening. It was even more special when we found out Leonard is from the Big island. Their steak was melt in your mouth delicious (my favorite part!), their shrimp was ono and their chicken was good. We loved their fried rice too! Everyone had a great time ~ some caught the shrimp in their mouths while others did not but it was all in the name of fun! We will definitely be eating here again and recommending this restaurant to family and friends. After our meal, I spoke with the manager to let her know that we appreciate and loved Skye and Leonard that evening and that they made our first experience at their restaurant so wonderful.

Went here last night for my cousins 16th birthday. They went above and beyond for him with the singing and dessert for him. Also accommodating 12 of us I know must have been overwhelming . Our server Rico was awesome and very friendly. He definitely knew how to make our experience as enjoyable as he could. Also Max our cook was awesome. He's one of the best cooks there and he is hilarious.

Service was good as was the atmosphere. That's about it. Food was mediocre at the very best. Salad dressing was cheap, quality of the meat, both dipping sauces, cheap and seemed watered down. If you've been to any quality hibachi restaurant you'll be sorely disappointed. They serve noodles on all plates, and also have NO garlic butter, again, if you've been to a hibachi, they All have garlic butter. I've been in hibachi grills/steakhouses from the east coast to the west and the quality of this, apart from the service, was terrible.

Very fun experience. Servers that took people's drink and meal orders were a bit impersonal. Chf was entertaining. Most of us all had steak with our combos. Was supposed to be New York strips, kinda question the quality of those. Pricing was not to bad. Some people that were a bit dressed up did not care to much for the tossing of the egg and shrimp you were supposed to catch with your mouth.

The only reason I gave this establishment 4 stars was because it was not very busy and the sushi chefs took almost twenty minutes to make one roll. That's all I ordered was a roll, and a glass of water. My server was on top of it and reassuring. If I were the owners there is no way in hell I would let the bartender work there unless they are ok with him openly giving customers free drinks and also telling customers to sit at his bar because he'll give you free drinks..... as he takes shots with you. So for all of you who want free drinks and great sushi... Go here.

Amazing food and entertaining chefs . The presentation was top notch and the ambience is like none other. Just take my money now because I will be back.

Disappointed that there is no dressing choice for the salad except for a mayonnaise ginger type dressing. I had the fillet and lobster, no seasoning, over cooked, chewy lobster, and they pour more of their mayo ginger concoction for you to dip your food in. What about us who don't eat mayo? Definitely a gimmicky hibachi. I don't recommend the blended margarita either, it was as bland as the fillet. Not a fan!

There are few restaurants in billings that can offer dinner and a show, but Umi surely can! They have two seating choices, dining for those who want a quieter more intimate experience, or hibachi, where you enjoy a fun, loud group experience where your food is prepared in front of you with style! The chefs are enthusiastic, the venue is beautiful, music is nice, the food is incredible (I recommend the fillet mignon), and the staff is even better. They have tons of guests to take care of, but they hurry themselves, and always deliver service with a smile. We love the restaraunt! Especially on the weekends when it turns into a night club! Beers are $1! It definelty gets people dancing. You can also tell they've invested a pretty penny in their lighting systems. 5 stars from my wife and I all around.

Had a great dinner last night! Very entertaining chefs on the grill! They toss food from the grill to your mouth to catch. That was pretty fun. Must have been a off night for me because I didn't catch any food! SMH. Make reservations or go early on the weekends. It gets crowded quickly. Will be back!

Nothing to write home about. The food was flavorless, everything tasted the same. The vegetables were overcooked and the rice was undercooked. The environment was unpleasant and loud. We won't be returning.

Very nice decor, wait staff needs lots of training and supervision. Cooks very very good. Jeff stood out as the most talented. They have only been open a few weeks and 6 months will be the best in Billings.

Diverse menu, very tasty, ambience can't be beat. Service needs improvement (have dined there three times thus far and two of three waitstaff still unfamiliar with the menu).

Ate at Umi steak and sushi today for the first time. Very nice. The interior is inviting, our waiter was great and the food was very good. We had a few rolls and hibachi chicken. The chicken and accompanying vegetables were awesome. Fresh, tasty and an eatable portion. Will definitely go back.

first off I have no idea why the big jay show on the radio can say this place is 5 star minus he is getting paid too . it is far from it. ok now I will give it to them there restaurant looks great inside. but clearly that's where the money stopped cuz there serves and food if half a star at best. I have gone a few times to give them a chance to redeem there self and the fail horribly time and time again I will not be returning even if someone paid me too. the meats were under cooked the rice was over cooked the sushi was lame. flavor less chewy. the appetizer of the jalapenos poppers I guess or whatever they call them were the best they had to offer. for the chefs they have I know two people that they have got burned and one guy got hit in the head while the chefs were doing there tricks these are the ones I know of hell there probably more occasions this has happen. when I was there the guy hit me and my buddys kid with a raw egg that's gross and while your out in good clothes that's always the best thing to happen to you right. everyone I know that as gone has not had a good time... it is loud as hell in there they bang on there hood units . so if you wish to dine here bring a fire suit ear muffs first aid box and peto for your stomach.

Great place! The food was good, the entertainment was even better. Our hibachi griller made sure our kids had a great time which is always important. Our server seemed very nervous but did a great job. We went a few nights after the official opening and it was still great. No huge hiccups at all. I was even impressed with how cheap it was after seven people had huge meals. I highly recommend this place. Beautiful atmosphere and great service.

To start I ordered the Fried Calamari, this appetizer had great presentation but absolutely horrible taste and every piece was dried out. I also ordered the Boston Roll and the Spider Roll. I would rate the Boston Roll 2/10 and the Spider Roll 1/10. The Spider Roll had a funny taste and smell, I could not finish. I would call this the worst sushi I have had in Billings. Not a fan and I do not intend to eat Sushi here again.

Went a few weeks ago with a friend during a shopping trip to Billings. Mid-afternoon on a Sunday means we got in quickly. More staff standing around then the number of customers. Diverse menu with many options. We are sushi eater so we decided to stick with that side of life. Nice, thick cuts of fresh fish of the sushi but you have to order it by the piece (I am use to one order is 2 pieces). Had the freshwater eel and could taste something dirty in it - like it was not cleaned completely. Ordered some funky rolls that they had on the menu to try something different and they were good to a point. Had asked the server what he thought about some of the funky rolls and he suggested one. We ordered the Green Hulk and would not suggest getting it. Said so to the server and he said that he had not gotten a good review from costumers about that one....so why didn't he say something to us about it after we had asked about the rolls and had ordered it?? Took a long time to get our food. I know they are new but only one sushi chef working and they were taking pictures of everything that was coming out of the sushi bar. A little disappointed.

Great place! We've been waiting forever for this place to open, and the interior is just gorgeous! We had the grill, the chef was amazing and the food was just delicious! Great atmosphere! We had sushi as appetizer, me and my husband are from the west coast, and never thought we would have such amazing sushi here in town! The tuna was absolutely fresh! Would definitely go back!

i don't normally leave bad reviews of a restaurant, but i want others to avoid having an evening that could be best described as how that college student felt trapped in buffalo bill's well, in silence of the lambs. this journey through hell, started with me naively getting a reservation for valentines day. i arrived at the hellbachi on time for my appointed torture session, but being as there were only 5 victims and not the full 6 victims i had slotted out for this night of terror, our hostess wouldn't sit us because "it's a show and everyone has to be there". this is when i realized i was dealing with the most incompetent people in the world and it could only get worse. what our 19 year old genius of restaurant management didn't realize is every restaurant works the same , you place orders, and the food arrives at the table at the same time, it's pretty simple just sit us and wait the 5 minutes for the last person to show up then take our orders, then the guy comes out does the show, you eat, and leave. that's too simple though. anyway, i kept silent and waited for the predictable outcome of our table being sat with other people and them having to put us somewhere else, anyway we were in the special party room, great. these places have the grills on and hot so the guy can come and cook the food, so the temperature in this little enclosed room with 2 grills on was , somewhere slightly north of the temperatures in hell. they waited a good 30-45 minutes, to bring us water or take our orders, good thing we waited for everyone to come to be seated. when one our drinks came the wine glass had lip marks on it from the previous patron , so we sent that back, then the next one came out with lip marks on it too, apparently they had to really search to find an actual clean glass, my order was wrong of course, the hibachi chef was drunk off sake , giving us shots, playing with raw eggs everywhere cross contaminating the food left and right w chicken and seafood. the food tasted bad, it was tough and overcooked. we sat there looking at the heaping pile of regret and shame they served on us, trying to stomach some of it, finally once everyone resigned to our fate, we decided to leave, big mistake, the takeout box they gave us was the size of a mcdonald's big mac box, for 800 pounds of rice and overcooked seafood. umi wasn't done yet, not by a long shot, like a girl in a hardcore gangbang , it wasn't enough to penetrate me once, i had to be penetrated in all holes until i was air tight. the moron waiter, ran my credit card 10 times, how do i know? because it locked it out the rest of the night, and i called my credit card company the next day and they told me he ran it so many times it placed a lock on the card. i came into this experience like a virgin on prom night, i left feeling like jenna jameson after anal sluts volume 9.
