1,242 Miles from L.A. in Billings MT. This is a good find. Located on the western edge of "town" Guadalajara's is the best Mexican themed restaurant in Montana - that I've found. They have a large and varied menu that covers all the basics and quite a few combinations of dishes. This is more Tex-Mex than Mexican but the ingredients are fresh and the serving size is large - which is to be expected from cattle/oil country. I got the typical gringo grub: chicken enchilada in mole sauce and washed it down with a couple of Dos Equis Amber beers. It comes with rice and beans. I was very satisfied. They take Visa, MC, Discover, and AmEx - which means that it's a good place to use your corporate per-diem. I just wish there was a feisty little Mexican lady running around making sure everything is the way it's supposed to be... one of the things I actually miss about LA.

One thing Billings isn't known for is Mexican food and there is a reason for that! I'm from the south & eat in Houston several times a year. That is where I get my Mexian food; not here. The fajita meat was tough and without seasoning. The margaritas were strong but not great. Just not impresseed all the way around. Sorry...there is still no great Mexican food in Billings.

First thing you see when you walk in is dirty carpet, with broken chips and straw wrappers all over. Not a good start. Then, a small party of three, we waited for some time to be acknowledged, and even longer to be seated. The place was on the tail end the lunch rush, so they were a little busy, but after the second time hearing "we'll be right with you", we were a little impatient. We received our drinks fairly promptly, but our food took forever. People seated after us receives their food before us. Considering we only ordered a taco salad and an enchilada tostada combo plate, the wait was ridiculous. It took more than forty-five minutes to receive our food. Finally, the food. Our dishes were decently good, with everything being fresh and relatively tasty. Was it worth the wait? No. It's sad because I used to come here a lot when I lived in eastern Montana, and never had such a crappy experience.

My first impression was the vomit just outside the front door. Out of respect for my party's appetite I chose not to mention it. The service from the water / bus boys was the most laughable I've ever had. We had a party of 8 and the just plopped down a pile of 10 menus and 4 place settings at one end of the table for us to fend for ourselves. After a lengthy wait for drinks the server quite grumpily tossed down a pile of straws for us to divvy out for kids and waters. After requesting more chips, said bus boy brought out one dish of chips - for a party of 8. The food was fair. The overflowing urinal in the men's room really capped off the experience. Based on how untrained and apathetic the staff are, I'm guessing the owners simply don't care.

The service was ok up to the wait for food. We waited over an hour for our food. I ordered fajitas, I wouldn't do that again, the green peppers and onions were cold and uncooked and only 3 very small pieces of beef on top. Not very impressed and I don't think I will be back. 6 of us ordered the fajitas and they were all the same uncooked. Per our waiter the cooks were pissed that they had to cook that many fajitas, very uncool. Again don't waist your money!

Bland food. Margaritas were also bland. They try really hard to get you to take more chips but don't tell you that after the first bowl they charge you for the rest. Not the worst mexican food I've had but not the best by far. It was just ok. Nothing fantastic. Service was slow and filled with screaming little kids that were running around all over. The bar was neat looking but that was about it.

Good enough food, but super bland. One of the better Mexican Restaurants in Billings, but that doesn't say much.

There are several Guadalajara's throughout the area, but yelp only had one listed and everyone kept writing reviews for the various locations. This particular restaurant was connected to the casino. This place was awesome. We got chicken nachos and two cheese enchiladas, we added onion and it was awesome! Initially we were the first people eating here. The customer service was great too.

I had the El pollo la creme and the flavor of the creme is just as good as any Mexican restaurant I have eaten at in California.

Address is not correct on App unless they updated it to 32nd St. Waitress was excellent. Food was good. I had chicken and steak fajita. Nice place but would not put in my top ten Mexican restaurants.

I was very surprised we had a Mexican restaurant that knew what complimentary chips and salsa and the salsa having a bite good job. Yes I've caught on you play to your custom base and ketchup sauce seems to fit taste buds here. But the salsa here had a bit of a kick the portions were large and flavorful. Done dusty the old place was better sorry missed it bit this was a great find hope they don't change not a 5 but a solid 4

This particular restaurant is no longer on 24th St. West. It has moved to 32nd St. West just south of King Avenue. It's a fairly large restaurant, well appointed, bright, with "newer" feeling chairs/tables. The tables are too small. My family of four along with our meals and drinks were having problems finding a location to put everything. They really need to be larger. The chairs are "Southwesterny", made of wood, but uncomfortable. The best "looking" Mexican restaurant in Billings is still Santa Fe Red's. Too bad their food is so poor. This place has probably some of the best authentic Mexican food in Billings. At least that I've found. I'll post a photo of the burrito I was served (Super Macho Burrito). Without a doubt, the best burrito I've every had (not just in Billings, MT). My wife ordered the Steak Picado and we both thought it was absolutely outstanding. I would also like to comment on their sauce. I asked our server if they make their own Hot Sauce in "house". He assured me that everything they made was in house so I asked for their hottest sauce, on the side, to add to my burrito. It was simply fantastic. A little sweet flavor to start followed by some intense heat. Outstanding! It's called "El Diablo" Sauce. If you like hot, get some. At first sight, the staff would appear to be substandard. Don't judge a book by it's cover! The people here enjoy their jobs and have fun. Everyone was so very nice and polite. I was almost taken back by it. Not used to this in Billings. Our server, a nice young man with exposed tattoos and an earring, did an outstanding job while not "hovering". We wanted for nothing. They have a full bar but are limited on wine. Stick to beer, cocktails, or soda. The Sutter Home Cab is just barely drinkable. We now have our "go to" location for Mexican food and I plan to plow my way through the entire menu. Very good Guadalajara! Thank you!!!

Drinks: Pamarita, pretty good, $7.25 Service: Not terrible. The guy was nice enough and I'll give him the benefit of the doubt that it wasn't his fault but rather the kitchens that the guacamole took almost 45 minutes to come out and the entrees over 30 when there were maybe 5-6 other tables on a quiet Monday night, but come on I expect at least a bs explanation and received none. Food: Bland and the biggest reason for the low score. Plates were hot, food was cold. Don't know how they managed that. No seasoning and an undercooked chimichanga, way over cooked beef in buddy's burrito, everything tasted like a Sysco canned product. The salsa and chips were good but even Sysco can't mess that up.

Moved from Texas to Montana in October, and we finally did it -- we tried a Mexican restaurant in Billings. We chose Guadalajara based on Yelp reviews. I think a "myth busters" moment is warranted. Oh -- and it is truly on 32nd (thank you previous reviewer Buzz M. for mentioning that, or we would have gone to 24th St. :D). Love the location -- right next to the famously low priced gas station, which is handy. MYTH #1: Chairs are Heavy and Seating Weird I'm guessing that the "new" location may have solved it, but the seating was fine and the chairs seemed good. There are also a few booths. We felt the decor and atmosphere was actually pretty cool. It was a really clean place -- it was pretty nice. MYTH #2: Extra Chips cost More My husband prodded this one. We read Sam C's review (and I think one other) that expressed alarm over charging for additional chips and salsa. When the first tiny bowl of chips arrived (which were actually warm -- another myth buster), and I mean one of those little tiny woven wood bowls like my grandma used to have -- my husband got a look on his face that said, "Oh, yeah, I dare them to charge me for the second bowl." We knocked out that first bowl in no time, asked for another, for which we were not charged. Maybe they changed policy after complaints? MYTH #3: Service is not great (although most reviews say the service is excellent, one said it was not, so I decided to add this). We thought the service was great. MYTH #4: Authentic Mexican Can I please suggest that this term is a bit of an exaggeration here? The salsa was, in fact, spicier than most food we've found in Montana -- great job. However, I would be so bold as to assert that a Texan or Mexican would not find the salsa spicy. I love, love, love Mexican food. I love Mexican people. I miss Tex-Mex and my friend's mom, Aidi's, tamales and sopa. It is very difficult to think the food we ate here was authentic Mexican fare. But, we appreciated the fact we didn't have to add Chalupa to the salsa, so kudos to that, Guadalajara. MYTH #5: Good Margaritas Ok, this is really only a matter of opinion, so it's not entirely fair to include it as a full-on "myth buster," so, sorry. I'm gonna. You can decide for yourself. The bartender was awesome, and the tequila was good. I get a bit concerned, though, when the margaritas come out the color of Mountain Dew. My fears were realized with slight aftertaste of gummy bears and the salt was infused to the glass. So, if you dig that sort of thing, you may just LOVE the margaritas. So, overall, it was fine. I appreciated the effort. I also liked hearing Mexican music - I think it was even a tuner set to a hispanic radio station. The rice and beans were cooked and seasoned well, too. Oh - and the water tasted clean! I do really appreciate that. MEXICAN FOOD TIPS FOR MONTANA RESTAURANTS Unsolicited, I know. Sorry again. This is from my perspective, anyway .... maybe a restaurant that heeds this might flop in this area, but this is the type of food we're looking for -- at minimum: 1. Salsa should not look like tomato soup. Good salsa is our #1 impression of how good a restaurant is. The better the salsa, the more margaritas we usually will stop in for. A pico de gallo option is always good, too. 2. Mole should have a bit of bitterness. It should be dark and a bit matte - not glossy and taste like Hershey sauce. 3. A bit of fresh lettuce and tomatoes (or I've even had sauteed bell peppers and onions, which is fine) on every plate that comes with a side of tortillas is greatly appreciated. Having a plate with only meat, beans and rice leaves a ton to be desired. I had a terrible stomach ache after dinner -- a bit of iceberg goes a long way. A couple wedges of lime doesn't hurt, either. 4. Warm the tortillas, please. 5. There is a fantastic tortilleria in Billings (Trevino's Tortillas). Maybe consider getting yummier corn tortillas -- I am pretty sure they are not more expensive and make all the difference in the world. 6. Toooooo many choices on a menu can be a dangerous thing. 7. Simple taco options are always a safe bet. (Again, a bit of vegetables, please). I would like to apologize to readers and the Guadalajara restaurant for the fact we did not try the Chile Verde. We almost did because reviewers seemed to love it -- but I asked if it came with lettuce or anything, and the server said, "no." So, we opted for the mole, which really is hard to get right (and very, very few restaurants do) -- and as it turned out, mole does not come with lettuce and tomatoes or any kind of vegetables at all either. I love the decor and the servers. I wanted to like the food.

Its been a couple weeks since I ate here. New location on west side of town was less than easy to find. Service was quick. Checked with me often. Chips & salsa could use help. Burrito was plenty & worth giving it a try.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
