Guess what, there's no ocean next to Montana! I usually stop eating sushi the farther away from the coast I get. This should have been one of the times I listened to my gut instinct. A family member took me out to lunch here so not entirely disappointing. I was seated quickly. Water brought to us along with menus. I've been eating Sushi for more than half of my life and definitely know the difference between Sashimi and Sushi. The waitress was condescending. Maybe my dark almond shaped eyes, raven black hair and olive skin didn't radiate enough Asian genes to her or something. She felt it necessary to ask me if I wanted rice or no rice. Maybe saying smoked salmon sashimi was the incorrect way to order two slices of salmon meat on their own. This led to her telling me the difference like she was annoyed I was going to spend my money there. I simply gave up and just pointed to the menu like some of my American friends do. My platter showed up quickly and the presentation was great. Even the salmon sashimi looked like it was cut with care and artfully laid. Spider rolls, Unagi , Ameebi, and Sashimi are what I base my opinions of a sushi joint on. 1. Spider roll was ok. Wasn't dripping with Unagi sauce, but I was disappointed to not get the crazy deep fried crab legs sticking up as an edible garnish on the end piece 2. Unagi nigiri was great. The eel tasted fresh and again, not sopping wet with eel sauce. 4. Smoked Salmon sashimi. This was not what I expected it to be. If I don't feel like I am taking a deep fresh breath of Alaska on my taste buds- this is where things fall apart. The smoke flavor was there, however my mouth was assaulted by what tasted like ammonium chloride. 5. Did not see the sweet shrimp option. This would have saved the sashimi experience, especially if they deep fried the heads and served them alongside the sushi. I did get a small bite of fried rice and it was typical fried rice. Not too oily and it tasted like...well fried rice. All in all, would I go back? No. I have come to the point that if a sushi joint wants to be a good sushi joint- that's all they can do, just sushi. Forget all the fusion crap, drop off the pseudo Thai food and just do your sushi right. This was the only sushi place I have ever been to that gave me a case of flatulence 30 minutes later. Bad sushi.

Great sushi, great atmosphere. Spicy girl roll was off the chain and split orange was pretty fancy. I would definitely come here again when im in Billings

This is a really "good" restaurant. The food is "good", the service is "good", the prices are "good", and ambiance is "good". It's just not great. We went for lunch and I ordered their "box". You wind up receiving an enormous amount of food. Not quite enough for two, but enough to ask for a to-go box. There are a few "boxes" to choose from. I chose the Teriyaki chicken box which first comes with miso soup, followed by your "box" which has the chicken, rice, salad, two little mini pot stickers, and three pieces of California Roll. It's a delicious combination of food where everything is pretty good but nothing is outstanding. It's $10.50 for the box and $2.50 for a drink. Add in tip and it's $30 for two. I may go back. There's just nothing remarkable going on here.

I wish I could give this NO stars!! Where do i start?.... First they served me 2 dishes with mushrooms in it, which I am deadly allergic to. When I saw the mushrooms, thank God, I informed a waiter of it. And asked for a replacement meal. He argued with me for about 15 mins. Then finally he replaced my meal. How does the food taste??... The cashew chicken is literally a beef stew!!!! It looks like, taste like, and smells like beef stew with chicken in it. And it was gross. The Pham Thai had no sauce on it!! It was literally dry!! It was just cooked noodles, with some cabbage, and peanuts sprinkled on top. We also ordered a cucumber avocado roll.... It fell apart as soon as we attempted to pick up a piece to eat it. So... Then we just had a rice and soy sauce mess. We paid over $40 for this nasty beef stew crap, plain dry noodles, and a rice soy sauce mess..... Pretty annoyed. And I will never eat there ever again. Save yourself the headache, and just don't even try them.

Having lived in Miami, LA and NYC, this place was not too bad. Sushi appetizer was very fresh and special rolls were delish. Friends had non-sushi entrees and they loved their choices. Dinner for 4 was less than $100.....can't beat that with a stick!

Outstanding food quality and service. We have been weekly customers for two years. Consistent and never varies. The owner Jimmy, the owner caters to each customer as they are his only patron. Reasonable prices. When our grand kids come from Singapore they want to go see Jimmy

Very small, inexpensive sushi rolls that are great for a quick bite. The lack of booze doesn't help, and bringing my own bottle of wine is annoying. They need a licence. The "spicy" dishes (both sushi rolls and prepared hot plates) were completely mild. The desserts are delicious - but how can you mess up fried ice cream? The owners are always there with a smile, so it is clear they are eager to make it compare to other outstanding sushi restaurants in town (namely Asian Sea Grill), but they have some work to do. At best... it's fast food sushi. Just OK.

surprisingly good! We had the sashimi lunch special and the tempura lunch box. the miso soup was exactly what we expected and didn't dispoint! the salad wasn't impressive and the tempura was a little greasy but everything else was amazing. the shumai was hands down the best thing! overall an amazing finding with a nice atmosphere

I can't believe that the highest reviewed place in Billings, MT is the "Fancy Sushi Asian Fusion" but after taking the suggestions of yelpers and having dinner here on my way back to the airport, I have to agree! I was in the area for work and thought we'd take a risk on land-locked, strip mall sushi! I would be a regular if I lived in town! They have a huge menu of chinese, japanese, thai, sushi, and other options. The genmai-cha (rice tea) is flowing once you sit down and I must have had about 8 cups of it. We had an amazing soup (ugh forgot the name) but its a shrimp soup that has a good kick to it. I was traveling with New Yorkers, one who'd been craving the stuff for months and was elated both to see it and then in the quality of the soup that arrived. We had the chicken lettuce wraps (basically licked the bowl clean), vegetarian rolls (cucumber and asparagus), and the soup to start. Even though we were almost full we shared a tuna roll and an eel roll. I can't say enough good things. The staff was extremely pleasant and the inside is amazingly cool - with comfortable booths, colorful lighting, and cool decorations. Overall a must visit and if I'm ever back in town you'll find me here!

Really?! More like Fancy Panda Express. For Montana standards, I guess it would be good, but its not.

Easily the best cheaper sushi place in town. When I want sushi and it's not an event I go here. Where this town gets all these Asians that barely speak English, I'll never know. The place kind of has this urban but not kitchy vibe. Like a little piece of a NYC in a stripmall. Go figure. For a while you were able to bring your own wine, not sure if that's the case anymore. Anyway, hit it.

I think I'm in love! Fancy Sushi is an awesome restaurant in every aspect: service, atmosphere, and most importantly, food. I went with some friends for lunch, and we were amazed at the variety of the menu - I just had the teriyaki chicken, one of my friends had curry chicken, and my other two friends had sushi (of course). After sampling each other's dishes, we concluded we were excited to try other dishes that the restaurant offered. Another great aspect of Fancy Sushi is the price. The lunch special left me stuffed with delicious goodness for only $8 - much better than Fancy Sushi's competition. I am very excited to return to Fancy Sushi and try something new from their awesomely huge menu. Definitely stop here and prepare to have your mind blown with Fancy Sushi's greatness!

So good!!! Definitely the best sushi place in town. My boyfriend and I are from Washington and we were always missing the sushi from the west coast but not anymore! We have been many times and have tried a variety of things on the menu and the food is always really good. There is a wide range of rolls and prices so you can have sushi on a budget or you can go all out. The food presentation is pretty, the atmosphere is fun, and the people are really nice.

This place is awesome! I go about once or twice a month and have NEVER had a poor experience. The sushi is fresh, the atmosphere comfortable, the price is right and the employees are amazing. This place is exactly what a restaurant should be! I love Fancy Sushi!

  • Kolbi F.

My husband and I love Fancy Sushi! We have been there more times than we can count, so I think we can give a accurate and fair review. To start things off - to all those who didn't want to go here because they didn't have wine or beer - THEY FINALLY GOT THEIR BEER AND WINE!! We have eaten at all of the sushi places around town - more than a few times even. Fancy Sushi does seem to be the best and the freshest. We have also had sushi in California and in Las Vegas. I used to be of the opinion that you cannot get fresh fish anywhere that's not near the coast. But a lot of places all over Montana get fresh stuff flown in all the time, so I changed my mind on that years ago. The 2 things I like best about Fancy Sushi - the customer service and their unique rolls. From the time this place opened, the owner (or manager) and the hosts and servers have been super friendly. And not in an obnoxious way either. Like others have said, the language barrier is tough sometimes, but after going there a few times you get used to their accent. They really do attend to your every need. Drinks get re-filled quickly, food comes out quickly, used dishes get cleared away quickly - and they check on you often. Now, we have been in a couple times when they've been super busy or had an "off-night" and things weren't done perfectly, but they're entitled. Again, we have been here so many times - and 95% of the time, they are excellent. Speaking of customer service, the place is spotless. The bathrooms are very clean and smell good, and are nicely decorated. In fact, the last time we were there, we saw the owner/manager (not sure which) cleaning the bathrooms HIMSELF! One other example of the attentiveness - one time I opened my chopstick package and broke them apart, and they didn't break very cleanly at the top. (for some reason) It didn't affect the usefulness; the wood was just broken oddly. The server NOTICED this, came right over, opened some new chopsticks for me and took my old ones! You just can't beat the customer service here. The food is great. We've had sushi, sashimi, all kinds of rolls, stuff off their regular menu, and desserts. I, myself, am pretty lame and usually get boring, basic rolls, with or without raw fish. My husband, however, always gets their special rolls. He's had quite a few of them on the menu. The plate and roll presentation are amazing! They are very creative artists. And everything tastes as good as it looks. His favorite special roll is the Yummy Roll (yes, that's the name). The last time we were there we had the Fuji Roll and it was awesome too. I order items off the regular menu as well - I like the Teriyaki Salmon and the Triple Delight. The soups are ok, but nothing special. The food is NOT like your typical Chinese/Japanese/Asian food around Billings or Montana. It actually tastes good and is good quality. For dessert, we've had their ice creams, the fried banana, and the fried cheesecake. Our kids especially love the fried banana and the fried cheesecake. (of course!) As for the price - I guess it gets kinda spendy when you're ordering the sushi and sashimi and different rolls. But I don't know if they're any more expensive than other places that serve the same thing.

THE FOOD: They have a pretty extensive menu with a bit of Japanese, Thai, and Chinese cuisine. It is definitely fusion food and I'm glad it's advertised as such. I had the Fuji roll and it was pretty good. I also tried the thai spicy chicken and lettuce appetizer which I thought was so-so. Overall, the food was pretty good. THE RESTAURANT APPEARANCE: I have to admit, this place surprised me. It's in a stripe mall but when you go inside the restaurant, the decor was pretty nice. It's a nice place to go with friends. Very casual vibe so no need to dress up. THE SERVICE: The staff was pretty friendly. There was a little bit of a language barrier but we were able to communicate reasonably enough. Overall, I had a wonderful experience here. It's worth a try.

They sent us a menu in the mail so we went and tried it. The menu is pretty vast, but the staff was extremely eager to help. We had the pork dumpling appetizer as per a recommendation from our waitress, and it was delicious. The sushi rolls we had (dragon roll and angel roll) were superb. The sauces that went along with everything were excellent. We also tried the pad thai, which was delicious. I think next time I will ask them to make it a little more spicy, but that's just personal preference. I was especially impressed with the quality if the fish. It was all very fresh and delicious. I was especially exited about the price. Other sushi places in the area are significantly more expensive for a product that is of lesser or equal quality. And, for the price at this restaurant, you get more food than the other billings sushi places (like asian sea grille). I will be going back to try the lunch specials soon. I can't wait to work my way through their extensive menu. It all looks amazing.

May be sushi for the area but this place wouldnt compete in OC or LA with someone that really knows fresh fish. I had the yellowfin, salmon, and spicy tuna cut roll. All were mediocre at best.

All I can say is WOW!!! I've had sushi in Both LA and Seattle and I can say that this was a real treat. Their fish was fresh and the presentation was great! They have a real sushi chef that knows what he's doing. The waitress, hosts were polite and very nice. They were nice enough to give us dessert for free. I'll always come back when visiting Billings again. You can't go wrong.

The fish was very fresh and the rolls were well prepared. The service staff is extremely friendly and accommodating. There was also something on the menu for the non-sushi eaters. We will be returning.

Hidden treasure tucked away in strip mall. but walk in the door, and lovely, peaceful ambiance. Quick, friendly service. Great lunch specials - just $7.95 for soup (the hot and sour was spicy and delicious), entree and rice. I tried my standby, Thai basil w/ chicken and veggies, and it was really good. Bonus - they have brown rice. They have sushi lunch specials and bento box specials, $11.95 - $13.95. Very pleasant lunch!

I know it has nothing to do with the food...but if the restrooms are clean...well they are spotless at Fancy Sushi Asian Fusion. Now for the food. The shrimp vegetable tempura has been consistently the best. When I want great shrimp and veggies, this is it. We invited some friends from Canada to have lunch with us knowing it would be a great meal, and we were right. Everyone had a great meal and the rest of our visit with them followed suite. Hats off to the staff and management for keeping your standards high and prices reasonable.

So welcoming. Everyone looks out for each others customers as well. Which, is the way it should be. The sushi was do fresh. The fallen city roll is the example of quality in the raw. The ginger sauce makes the roll. The cilantro compliments the tuna. I found a new favorite place. The dynamite roll is great too! I am very proud to give this place 5 stars.

Horribly service, I think we had three different servers in one night. I had to ask for waiter to take my order, after waiting 15min. I then had to ask for my sushi which I saw was sitting on the counter and they never brought to me. My friend got her food before my sushi came out! Then as we had finished our meal and the bus boy brought us our boxes, we still had to ask to get our check!

Went there because it was one of very few Asian restaurants still open after 9pm on a Sunday night with four stars on Yelp. We had been craving for spicy Asian food for a wk and the food hit the spot! We got Singaporean Fried Rice Noodle with chicken and Thai Curry with chicken. Both dishes were slightly spicy and loaded with fresh veggies and meat. The service was friendly and quick. The décor was a bid strange. A lot of neon lights. Reminded me of vegas ;)

Dang...what a delight! Tried the red snapper and white tuna for an app and Bang!!!! Powerful flavors just dominated my mouth! So delicious, very fresh! Had some Generals T's for lunch and it was a nice portion and very tasty. The sauce was spot on. Came with broccoli and rice, very nice! The menu is very extensive and I cannot wait to come back to Dominate the sushi menu. Best in town!! Staff is very nice and accommodating A+++ in my book

Great sushi the rolls are pretty large and I love the option of soy bean paper instead of sea weed. They have a huge selection of rolls. Lost one start because their service is usually good but if it's particularly busy it can be lacking.

  • Erin O.

Ok, so I have to say... when I first moved to Billings, I was a little nervous that a landlocked state would never have good sushi. This place is a little like a nightclub and a sushi bar all rolled into one. The service is super fast, the sushi chef prepares rolls right in front of the dining room, its super clean... and everything is fresh and delicious. Also to note: the pad thai is really good! Think of this place as a bit of an Asian Fusion restaurant but more authentic than a chain place. I'm a big fan.

Gross. So it may have been a Friday night but it was late in the evening and my date and I waited at the door for 5-6 minutes, we were passed by 3 different employees without acknowledgement. There were four empty tables ready to go in plain view but luckily our waiting was long enough to notice the finger smudges on the black shiny tables and food and trash all over the floor. We moved on to Asian sea grill instead and had a great meal.

as far as a sushi place this is one of the better, you have fresh seafood, great staff who are knowledgeable on each dish to help those wanting to try it the first time. Im one of those that have it with friends who want it, or not have it and my world keeps turning. So try it, and see what you think

Can't say enough about the sushi at Fancy Sushi. We ordered 3 of the higher end rolls, and all 3 were really great. Everything tastes really fresh, and the rolls are very creative. The service & atmosphere are good, as well. I've been there twice now, and it's taken over as my favorite sushi in Billings. Okay, that doesn't say much... but it's easily in my top 5 I've been to anywhere.

Overall the city of Billings is not a great place for eating out. In a town with limited competition for diverse restaurants the pickings are often between just ok and bad. This restaurant is one of the former. We went on a Saturday night, ordered three appetizers, and two main dishes. Seaweed salad was good, spicy tuna roll and yellowtail rolls were ok. The fish didn't taste bad nor did it taste particularly fresh either. It was nothing to write home about. I ordered the birds-nest dish and all the vegetables were overcooked as was most of the seafood. Not horribly, inedibly overcooked but enough to make the food just ok. The other main dish was a steak stir-fry from the grill and it also wasn't bad. For three appetizers, two main dishes, and two drinks the total was $90 without tip. The service was steady, glasses were kept full, and food was brought in a timely manner even though the place was packed that Saturday night. One server spilled a tray of water glasses on a group she was serving but that was it. The previous reviewer from Huntington Beach who was blown away by the fish must have been living here too long because I remember what incredible sushi tastes like and this is not it. Overall the place was okay. I would go back considering the limited selection of food in town because it wasn't BAD, but I'd try other dishes than what we got. For the quality I would definitely recommend coming during Happy Hour if possible. Many items on the menu are offered at a discount and I think this more accurately represents their middle-of-the-road food.

Was apprehensive when I walked in and looked at the menu. I've eaten at a lot of sushi places all over the country. Sushi was pricey and I was afraid the quality wouldn't live up to the price. Don't get me wrong - I will happily pay premium prices for premium sushi. I was immediately impressed with the size of the seaweed salad, which I order at every sushi restaurant I go to. It was more expensive than I usually pay, but it was also the biggest and tastiest I've ever had. We ordered 3 big rolls, which ranged from $13-$22. Yes, quite pricey, but also the biggest rolls I've ever gotten. The Sweet Heart Roll was to die for. Probably the yummiest roll I've ever had. 8 HUGE pieces with a delicious sweet chili sauce on top. My husband and I fought over it! The small rolls (yellowtail and scallion, tuna, salmon) we ordered were also HUGE. The biggest of these rolls I've EVER had anywhere - literally stuffed with beautiful raw fish. We were in sushi heaven! The servers were attentive and friendly, but we were there at lunch and they had about 8-10 tables full. We will definitely be going back next time we're in Billings and are looking to splurge on a good meal. Side note: if you order their lunch specials, the prices are VERY reasonable, I just don't know if they serve the same sizes of the rolls.

I don't buy the whole landlocked reason for high prices. Billings has an airport. That's how everyone else gets their sushi. That's how I get my quality sushi in Colorado Springs. Reputable restaurants get their fish flown in 1-2 times a week. This is standard practice in the US. Nothing special going on with this construct. The sushi here was very fresh just as it should be. Dishes are inventive, but they are fleecing this city with their exorbitant prices. Ultimately, where else are you going to get your sushi fix? $3.25 for one piece of nigiri is a 100% markup over regular prices across the nation. For 3-4 dollars, you should absolutely get the standard 2 pcs of nigiri. Especially when the fish is cut thinner than normal. 4 stars for the fresh sushi and excellent tuna jalapeno appetizer. Also, their service was prompt & friendly and the interior decorating is top notch. They also gave us a free "chef special" to try. A nice touch. Bumped down a star for the ridiculous price for their nigiri and sashimi. I can stand paying 2-3 dollars over what I'm used to for rolls. No problem. But if you want raw fish here, you better be ready to pay the premium... Also, you can BYOB here.

Shrimp tempura has no daikon oroshi. Out of yakisoba. Tempura udon soup has no taste. Like chicken broth? Tempura udon had asparagus, green peppers, mushrooms, and green beans... No green onions... First time I saw Inari "sashimi". Lots of kampyo in maki- not sure if I like or dislike. Out of mango mochi ice cream. Gyoza was great. Angry bird roll was gross.

This is a good lunch spot for sushi eaters, they have a great lunch deal. Is it the best sushi ever...No this is billings we are talking about. It is reliable and friendly.

Absolutely amazing food and service! Bring your own wine, friends and appetite, you will have a fantastic night! The menu is enormous, with a very wide selection of asian dishes.

  • Cheryl J.

Sushi is not our delight, but we do love a few things on the dinner menu at this authentic Asian restaurant. My husband can not stop ordering Shrimp and Vegetable Tempura. This is the only thing he orders. It is delicious panko fried shrimp prawns and fresh fried garden vegetables, usually zucchini. It comes with a side of the most irresistible miso (nori seaweed) soup. My entrée is Vegetable Shrimp lately which is meticulously prepared with a perimeter of fancy sliced cucumber, filled in the center of the dish is stir fried veggies and plump shrimp. I have tried the Szechuan veggies and shrimp, also delicious but spicy. The Asian waiters are politely accommodating with impeccable service. We love this place and we were proud to bring our Canadian friends here as well!
