After a long drive we needed a little break and found this place entirely by accident. The door was opened and we walked right in. Margrit, the proprietor, said they were closed but was gracious enough to let us get a cup of (delicious!) coffee and come sit on the gorgeous balcony overlooking the lake. It was lovely and peaceful, and if we didn't have a place booked we would have loved to stay there (it is VERY charming).

This restaurant has the best view in Big Fork. We Had a lovely desert on the terrace and watched the crescent moon set along with the sunset. Never saw that before The the owner was our server and was gracious, very kind and helpful. we are also staying here at the Inn of the same name and our room is lovely. A very special place. I would return in a minute!

Do you have a lot of time on your hands? Do you like slow and indifferent service? If so, then this place is for you. We (a party of 7) arrived for brunch on Sunday afternoon. The restaurant was only about 25% full. We should have known there would be a problem when we arrived and people were leaving and said they hand't received their food 45 minutes after they ordered it. In order to bridget the gap from the time we ordered until we received our food, we had to ask for bread at least several times.

This place is horrible! We arrived and asked for a table and were told by one (of the two) hostesses to step aside and would be helped as soon as the couple behind us were seated. At 2 different times we were approached...first by a second hostess that asked us if we'd been helped and promised to get us a table asap (after we had explained we'd been waiting for awhile and had been neglected) and a second time by the hostess that we originally talked to that had TOTALLY forgotten she had promised us a table 45 minutes earlier. While we waited for 45 minutes we heard at least 5 complaints from customers who we're waiting on a glass of wine, salads or simply someone to take their order. The place wasn't even busy. After waiting for a table for 45 minute we decided to leave. We walked right past the two hostesses and they looked up at us, but it never once registered in their brain that we had waited so long for a table and had finally given up. They didn't even acknowledge us or apologize for our waste of time.

Unfortunately, I experienced the same poor service over the 4th of July weekend. I live in Bigfork and had company from out of town. I took two of them to Bigfork to shop and we wanted a late lunch. We went to Swan River Cafe. Even though the restaurant was open, the waitress acted like she didn't know what to do with us because we came at the end of the buffet hours and we just wanted a light lunch. We waited a long time and didn't get a real menu. The cooks threw together an impromptu lunch of soup and salad, but we felt like we were intruding. The food was OK, but the bill was outrageous. I won't go back.
