Oh my word, this place cracks me up. Seriously, though. We call it "The Hat", and go there about every chance we get. The food's not that good, the servers are all Hispanic and speak about no English what-so-ever, but it's got that aura. Plus, every week day from two to five you can get small margaritas (that are not that small) for two dollars. Frozen or on the rocks, salted or unsalted. It's a great deal.

We enjoy eating here. It has always been clean. The servers are very friendly. They speak little English, but we enjoy that since it is a Mexican restaurant. Our chips are always warm and fresh. We get the Queso dip with them. One could get better salsa, but we enjoy it. Our sodas are always tastey. We do not venture out too much on our order. I always get a shrimp quesadilla with grilled veggies (onions, peppers, tomatoes) with a side salad. My husband gets chicken tacos and sometimes the chicken taquitos. Our food always comes out quickly, and is always very fresh and hot. It usually comes out so fast, we like to eat our chips and dip before ordering our meal. As for the other items on the menu, I can't really help you with. We prefer to eat here over the two other Mexican restaurants in town.

Well, I've been back 2-3 more times because the first time was great... since then... not so much. went there in the middle of the buffett and even though the place isn't really busy... they're VERY SLACK on keeping the buffett stocked. I asked THREE TIMES to have the buffet stocked with things that were empty and they looked at me like I had lost my mind. I WON'T GO BACK AGAIN!!!

Yes, it's true that some of the servers will probably not understand your order or requests but they are very friendly and try their best to assist you. We ordered the quail and it was cooked to a crisp, unfortunately. The best part of our dinner was the $2 margaritas...Excellent.

In a town inundated with chain restaurants & fast food, El Sombrero is a gem! The decor is simply beautiful- colorful & festive. The service was prompt, friendly, & efficient. The food was as authentic & flavorful as you are going to get for small Southern town. I enjoyed El Cameron Diablo (shrimp in a spicy sauce) & found it to be fresh & zippy. Don't pass on the Queso Fundido which is served, unexpectedly, with grilled chorizo, tomatoes, & peppers. I'm from Chicago & would certainly make El Sombrero my "regular spot" if I lived in town

The food used to be so good. Years ago. Then something happened. I don't know what but it wasn't good. The place is dirty and the food is no good.

Seriously, this is probably the worst restaurant I've ever eaten at. On the real. First of all, it didn't smell great when we walked in, which is a bit of a turnoff. When our party ordered our food, our non-English speaking waiter appeared to have understood and taken our orders. Unfortunately for him, he understood none of what we had said but he was wise enough to send over another waiter to ask us to repeat our order. That, and the general amiability of the waitstaff were the only plusses. On to the food, my friends. Well, let's just say that it was awful. God awful. I'd rather eat dogfood mixed with Waffle House scraps in a bowl of old milk awful. Refried beans were right out of the can, the food didn't even look that appealing, and the taste matched. Bland, cheap, unpalatable. Also, the food prep was downright lazy. Upon ordering a nachos supreme, we were served some subpar-looking nachos that had a tomato slice on it. Really dudes? You aren't going to dice the freaking tomatoes for nachos? What am I supposed to do with the slice, whip it across the unnecessarily large restaurant at the two other customers for a friendly tomato frisbee toss? Yeah right. Also, they ran out of guacamole. THAT should not happen at a Mexican restaurant, especially on a Saturday night that is not at all busy. We didn't order any alcohol, which is really unfortunate considering how much more bearable the situation could have been if a few tequila shots were in our systems. I will give them the benefit of the doubt though and assume their refrigerators were functioning and that their beers would have probably been served cold. So yeah, don't eat here. Make your own Mexican food, find another place, or just go ahead and skip dinner tonight as a self-punishment for even considering this restaurant.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
