For me, the meal turned out to be all about the chili. Nothing else mattered and the rest being very good. Service from the waitress was acceptable and friendly. If I come back, this joint is my first stop. This chili recipe hit me square on the head as it reminded me of my favorite chili from the Matador in Dearborn Heights, MI. I tasted the cocoa bitterness and my taste buds awakened to an old passion. The light portion of beans aside, five stars for nailing the chili. Granted, not everyone likes a bitter chili.

Went there on Tuesday night because like most other reviewers, it was right across the street from the hospital. The Alpine burger was really good, surprisingly good. Hell yeah good. But I have to lower the score due to the soggy fries and the surly, scowling counter woman. Bleach.

Great food and great service. The owner and staff are very friendly and always remember who I am. I have never had a bad thing on the menu!

I went in around lunch time and stood at the counter for a while (like 4 minutes) not sure what to do- if they seat me or I seat myself (?) and they weren't greeting me. So I asked a woman sitting if she seated herself and she said yes and I asked if they served her and she said yes. So I sat down but no one ever served me. I saw multiple waitresses go by and saw them casually cleaning silverware at the counter (seriously like 3 waitresses cleaning silverware). I felt ignored. I waited about 15-20 minutes and decided I had enough. I grabbed my stuff and left almost in tears. Spending a lot of time at the hospital gets to you and I just wanted to enjoy a carefree lunch instead of hospital food but that's not what I got. Not sure how the food is as they never asked if I wanted any. For me it was a negative experience.

Waiting for fried ice cream to go for 15 mins with only few customers in the restaurant. But tasted very good. You should check it out.

They have made significant improvements in speed and service. The food is great, and the prices are more than fair. So they have earned my good review.

I had the quarter chicken with the lemon garlic sauce and the rice. It was fantastic. Neither item was dry and I even poured a little of my extra sauce on the rice! I definitely recommend the place!

Decent little cafe close to the Mayo. My greek salad for the price hit the spot. Coffee was decent too. Def go back when at the Mayo. Beats hospital food for sure.

The souvlaki was cooked perfectly and seasoned well. They had really fast service and the Greek salad was perfect. We went there a few times while staying in Rochester, they were very quick to refresh our drinks and accommodate requests and actually took the time between guests to make some pretty good conversation. Definitely has a great vibe and atmosphere and they work very hard to keep everyone pleased.

We were just passing through and wanted to grab some breakfast food. We happened to find this place and gave it a try, but we should've looked harder, I suppose. You have to worry when most of the reviews for a place say it's conveniently located near the hospital. The decor of Presto is cheap and bland, but not offensively so. The servers were OK, though they did that thing wherein our original waitress disappeared for a while and someone else came around, and it's like 'Uh, who are you now? What happened to the waitress?' She then returns later, when she's done with her phone call or smoke out back or whatever. Anyway, the menu had me puzzled because they have a breadth of offerings but probably need to cut about half of it and really focus on doing some things well. I got the breakfast/morning sampler, which was dirt cheap ($3.25 or so) for two eggs, hash browns and toast. I then added a side of bacon ($2.25) to that and had some coffee. The coffee was watery and kind of like gas station coffee. The only reason I continued with it was that I needed a coffee boost and it was hot and refreshing. The eggs were OK, they did that fairly well. But the hash browns were probably the worst I've had in a long time: greasy, stringy and slimy. The toast had weird char marks like the one someone submitted in a picture for Presto here, and it was chewy and had a funky taste to it. I don't know how you end up with chewy toast, but they've managed it here. Then, to top things off, they provided only two bacon strips, though the side is advertised as three. The bacon tasted OK, but it was the most pitiful-looking bacon...tiny, paper thin and practically invisible. There must be better places in Rochester. I would recommend you go elsewhere; Presto has a lot to improve upon before anyone should eat there ever again. Yes, it's cheaply priced, but at what cost?

We sre staying at Courtyard Marriott and wanted a place that was within walking distance. Cafe Presto fit the bill. The staff were friendly. To split between two of us we ordered 1/2 chicken with a honey-Thai-chili glaze, homemade mashed potatoes with gravy and Latino Corn (fire roasted corn in a lime cream sauce). The chicken was tasty and juicy. We didn't care for the Thai sauce and traded it for Vesuvius (a garlicky sauce) and that really added to the chicken. The corn was a delight and the mashed were tasty.

Nice place on 2nd street opposite St Mary's hospital - excellent for a quick bite of delicious and affordable food. Their gyros and fries are very good. Lots of options in terms of sandwiches, salad and pita. They have a small sit down area where you can sit and dine but I usually carry out. All in all a good place to go to for a quick lunch.

We went here for breakfast at about 10 in the morning on a weekday and were seated promptly because it wasn't very busy at all. This place just happened to be near a meeting spot so we decided to dine here. We waited for a few minutes before we were approached for drinks (coffee), perhaps they were short staffed that day. It took so long for our order to arrive we contemplated leaving. When it did come there was a curly hair on my girlfriends plate as she began eating her eggs. They re made her dish but did not comp it. I won't be returning to this place for breakfast.

Café Presto at first looks as though it could be passed off as a Kitchen Nightmare - with anachronistic wood paneling and walls adorned canvas paintings from your senior neighbor's garage sale, Gordon Ramsay would be in fits over the interior. But the slightly old décor is the only thing awry with Presto. It's clean as a shiny new whistle and the owner is as friendly as your senior neighbor, only he's not nearly senior enough, and is definitely far too kind. Admittedly, I was skeptical about dining at this sort of hole-in-the-wall-almost-underground diner. With an eclectic menu touting crepes, egg sandwiches and kebabs, I wondered if this weren't just a "heat up some Jimmy Deans" joint...especially since the prices were so low. Ten bucks for breakfast for two people? There's no way that could be freshly made food...right? Wrong. While our food took a little bit of time to come out, rendering me slightly irritated and a bit impatient, the owner and waitress kept offering to refill my quickly disappearing diet Pepsi. With a disarming smile and an equally loving comment, "my only goal is to make sure you're happy right now," there was nothing not to love about the service. And my patience was well worth it - forgive me if this sounds peculiar, but I had the best bowl of oatmeal I've ever ordered at any breakfast restaurant in my life at Café Presto. Served with whole-wheat toast, this filling bowl was cooked to perfect medium thickness perfection, and accompanied by brown sugar, raisins and milk on the side. Never before have I been presented with a bowl of cooked oats so perfect as to make Mr. Quaker himself super proud. Dad's eggs were at the perfect "over medium" temperature he requested. Again, it sounds silly, but cooking eggs to "medium" is as difficult as cooking a steak to the perfect med-rare (if you don't believe me, ask chowhound). It's unusual for a chef to so accurately flip eggs such that the yolk is thick, golden and yellow, unbroken until the knife slices down. In short, if you don't visit Café Presto, then you're not heeding your old librarian's advice. Judging this book by its cover will leave you without the best traditional American breakfast you've ever had...and excellent, empathetic service to boot!

This is a great little place to grab breakfast or lunch. They do the standard eggs, toast very well and for a fair price. Lunch time---I enjoy the greek inspired dishes....saffron lemon rice is delicious and they often run out.....as apparently i am not the only one that loves this. I like the pitas and the chicken also..The staff is always friendly and chatty. The place is clean cozy and in a convenient location close to st mary's hosp. one of my preferred places to grab breakfast when in rochester.

Basic diner fare. The food was ok, well-priced and the service was friendly. They made a mistake on my wife's order and were quick to correct it. Very convenient to St. Mary's. Ok, but I'm not hurrying to return.

The owner is very nice and accomodating. The selection is traditional american cafe food with a greek flair. The suvlaki is grilled skewered meat with the skewer removed served with pita bread and some sort of cucumber sauce. Although the name is not familiar, it is quite tasty. The burgers are quite good too. I don't think I've had a time where I've enjoyed the fries since they get limp quickly. I usually get a side salad or rice instead. The waitstaff can be young and not very friendly, but not always. I haven't tried the breakfast but i've heard good things about it.

Great place to grab a bite when you're near St Mary's. My breakfast of two eggs, hash browns, toast and choice of meat came to a whopping $3.25. I splurged on some coffee and the total was under $5.50. Thought places like this were long gone. Great little gem in Rochester.

I've eaten breakfast here the past two mornings and I am growing to like it. When I travel, I really enjoy "old school" breakfasts and will seek out just this type restaurant. To sit at a diner-style stool and counter reading the paper and looking out the window while enjoying coffee and a meal makes me happy. Quaint, no frills and very reasonable. Very friendly and attentive service. The coffee is good and stays full. Ham&Cheese crepe is good but a bit heavy. The vegetable beef soup was great. The high-volume dish is the traditional eggs, meat choice, hash browns and toast. It's good and a steal at $3.25.

This cafe is located immediately opposite St. Mary's Hospital on second street. They have a nice, modest breakfast fare for reasonable prices and an exceptional selection of lunch menu selections. I particularly like the sandwiches. If you happen to work at the clinic, this is a great getaway from the usual cafeteria meals. if you are visiting a loved one or are a visitor to the hospital it is a nice stop to getaway but not too far. By the way they have wireless internet which can be nice if you need to do some work too.

Disclaimer: this review is written based on 2 visits to Cafe Presto - both times I ordered crepes. Service is good, atmosphere is fine, dishes are cheap, food (and by that I mean crepes - see above) is okay. Nothing to write home about. I've had the banana and chocolate crepe a few times. The crepe itself is very tasty. The fillings could use some work. The banana was good (how can you mess that up, really?) but I am fairly certain that the chocolate was just Hershey's syrup drizzled on top. Trade it out for Nutella and it'd be 5x better... but knowing that I am probably eating Hershey's syrup on a dish that I ordered at a restaurant (that was not an ice cream sundae) just makes me unexcited. I've also had the ham and cheese crepe. Again, solid crepe. Ham and cheese were fine... ham was basically sliced up lunch meat. But for some reason they feel the need to slather the thing with honey mustard which just over powers the whole meal. Cut the honey mustard in half and it'd be fine. All in all, I am not sure if I'll be back. I may have to try the lunch/dinner options at some point since those seem to get pretty good reviews but I will not be making a special trip down 2nd for their crepes.

Right across the street from St. Mary's. Great food at reasonable prices. Peter & his staff are amazingly accommodating & friendly. He is originally from Chicago so he knows his way around a recipe. Fresh vegetables in the salads. LOVE the chicken fajitas. Fast take out service if you're loved one isn't too keen on the menu across the street. (Like our Mom).

Decent turkey sandwiches on tasty ciabatta bread. Fries are also good. Coffee was a bit watery, but overall not bad. Service = A+! Nice, friendly service on a slow Sunday afternoon. Really, for Rochester, this place is pretty awesome. Next time I'm at St Marys I may stop on by, which is high praise for a little cafe on 2nd street. Bonus: Cafe Presto is incredibly convenient when visiting the hospital, and most certainly better than the nearby competition (Canadian Honker, Caribou Coffee, and McDonalds).

Great service and food. Breakfast special for $3.25. If only there was a place like this right across the street from every hospital I go to! Owner is very friendly and keeps the coffee coming.

Sorry, not impressed. Food is not much different or better than McDonald's. you'd be better off going down the street to Canadian Honker..

My experience was not good at all. The service was slow and rude. The breakfast selection was limited, especially for vegetarians. There was maybe one healthy option which I found quite interesting it being right across the street from St. Mary's Hospital and all. If you like unhealthy breakfast food (too large of portions, unhealthy meats, too much fake butter, too much salt, too much sugar, too much cream) at a decent price then you might enjoy this place. Just be careful how often or you may end up a patient across the street. Sorry, that was mean. But seriously...you would think they'd have a better and healthier selection. There is a cute little patio to sit on in the back. It definitely has a diner feel to it on the inside which I quite like. Maybe lunch is better? I don't know that I will ever be desperate enough to go back to try it.

Nice get away from the St Mary's Hospital. It's just across the street. Good service and great tasty food all reasonably priced. Great fresh brewed ice tea. I had the Solvak (I think it's called). It comes in chicken or pork, I had the pork. It's like a gyro. Don't forget to add a side of the grilled chili lime corn. It's like Mexican elote, yummy. I'll be back next time I'm in town!

I have been to Rochester for 4 years now on diff rent occasion in order to get my sister and mom treatments. Every time I come here I have to stop in to Cafe Presto before I head back home to Miami. The Pros to this place make up a long list and I have yet to find any cons. Great prices, (Sometimes I feel I want to tell the owner he is charging way to little for some items, but I don't). The food is top notch especially their signature things like there Gyros and great salads. Service is fast and friendly. Your not going to get five star restaurant treatment when your paying around 6 dollars for a gyro and french fries but you well get fast and courteous service and what more can you ask for. If your in Rochester and want a good quick bite to eat and don't want to spend quadruple the money at one of there nicer eateries like Chester's or Pescara you got to try this place it doesn't disappoint.

Loved it! If you want a hole in the wall this is the place to be. Looks like a small cafe shop from the outside but I think they have grandma in the back cooking the delicious food! And the prices! Wow wow, so affordable. What's amazing is why folks continue going to Canadian Honker which is no comparison to the delicious food they are serving at Cafe Presto. My girlfriend and I ordered the gyros and the bread wrap was so tasty and the marinated chicken it came wrapped in, I'm looking forward to going again! Staff is friendly and the venue is small.

Understated and easy to overlook on the outside, but their food was sooooooooo delicious!!! Went there for dinner tonight - convenient to where we are staying at Aspen Suites. Just a few steps away. I got the lemon-garlic chicken (quarter, white meat) with a side salad and their lemon rice. It is obvious that their food is homemade and very fresh. The chicken came with the skin on and bits of garlic on the outside. Perfectly cooked, steaming hot and tender, and it tasted so delicious. It came with pita bread and an olive oil/garlic dipping sauce. The side of rice was a small bowl - not a measly side amount. It tasted like homemade rice cooked in chicken base. Very good. My husband had the half portion of BBQ chicken as well as the lemon garlic rice and a side salad. His order came with pita bread, too, as well as a portion of BBQ sauce for dipping. I prefer bbq sauce that isn't sweet so I wasn't a huge fan - theirs is very sweet, but it was still good. This place is awesome. We've decided that we're going back for dinner tomorrow night. I'm planning on trying their suvlaki. Oh, my husband got their baklava and said it was the best he's ever had. For both of our meals (that we couldn't even finish) was $20.17. Pretty dang good, especially for such delicious and high quality food.
