Yum Yum! Took the whole team to lunch! Had a blast at hibachi .... From veggi offerings to steak and shrimp! Spicy miso soup - to die for! It's hot and delicious. We enjoyed our chef - great sense of humor and good cooking and juggling skills! Plenty of parking. Easy for us to find. The wait staff are vey attentive - we will be back. The lunch menu is well priced. Waiting for he next tables show - before posting pic! I got so caught up I forgot to take one!

In many ways, I feel Minnesota is a sushi desert; in that there isn't a super solid sushi joint, where it is always consistent. There are places I usually frequent, but it can be hit or miss! Knowing this, I walked into Shogun with little to no expectations. Here's what we got...as always, way more than necessary... *Agedashi Tofu *Vegetable Tempura Appetizer *Hamachi Kama (ordered, but they ran out!) *Mushroom Avocado Roll *Scorpion Roll *Winter Roll *Spider Roll *Several adult beverages :-) Aside from not having hamachi kama available, the appetizers were decent. The tofu was especially tasty with sweet soy, and not over cooked to a crisp; like some places. The tempura was also good, large pieces of veggies and light tempura batter. As for the sushi, it wasn't bad, but on par with most decent sushi places in the Twin Cities. The ingredients were fresh, made with care and presently well; but it looked like one of the rolls we got was pre-made and sitting around for a bit (the rice was really hard). The raw fish and tempura was great, but the rice needed help - hey, rice is important when it comes to sushi!!! I would definitely give it a go again when I have a sushi hankering!

Christmas Day night and we felt lazy and jumped in the car to head out to dinner and 99% of everything is closed (no surprise). Shogun is open and we swing in with no expectations of anything just happy not to cook. We get seated along with another family and let the show begin! Our hibachi chef is great, put on a show and delivered great food with a nice portion size that left us full but not stuffed. I'm looking forward to returning with the wife just to sit at the sushi bar and write another review!!!!

We've dined in 3 times and ordered out once before when they first open. The service and food was great then. Friday night I called to place an order for pick up, the guy put me on hold for almost 10 mins, I finally just hung up and ordered out somewhere else. Saturday night my husband and I decided to dine in for dinner because we still wanted sushi and Hibachi. It was busy but not packed. After we sat down we waited almost 20 mins before our server finally came over and took our drink orders. (Was so close to just getting up and walking out.) The food was slow to come to the table as well. There was also 2 things we ask for which I thought was simple enough but our waiter had to be reminded. First request was that we wanted 2 shrimp sauce instead of getting the ginger sauce. The 2nd one was to get regular soy sauce instead of the low sodium one. The guy never came back to refill our drinks and was also slow to bringing us the bill. Needless to say, with Kyoto and other good Hibachi/Sushi close by, I don't think we'll be coming back due to the awful service.

We stopped by around 9 pm on a Friday night after running errands. Our service was phenomenal from the second we walked in the door. I had the Scorpion roll and my husband had the shrimp and steak hibachi dinner. Both were fantastic. Considering that we hadn't planned on stopping, I think we were both pleasantly surprised to have such a great experience.

We took our family to Shogun on Saturday, February 21st with reservations at 6:15. We were there a bit early and seated about 6:30 pm for Hibachi. A Hibachi chef showed up to our table about 7:45 which I took as very slow, it only takes about 10 minutes to eat the salad and soup they serve so we awkwardly sat there staring at other tables as they were doing the same thing. We were not out of there until 8:40pm and we were not lingering as we had children with us. In the past I have been to Shogun and every other Hibachi restaurant in the Twin Cities and have never experienced such slow wait times. I was told that there were only 3 chefs on duty and it was a full house. The food was great and the staff was very apologetic however, clearly management is lacking and they are overbooking a restaurant without properly staffing. It was a very frustrating experience.

The hibachi angus filet, shrimp and lobster was phenomenal! Our chef was awesome and very entertaining with the kids. Ambiance is great as well. This is our families new favorite for hibachi.

Parking: easy! We always get a front row spot right in front of the entrance. Service: the hostess, servers, and sushi chefs are always very polite. Customer service is excellent! Anis is our favorite server =). The food: the portions are very generous for the price. We always choose Shogun over Benihanas because of this. Usually when I leave benihanas, I am still hungry. When I leave here, I usually have some leftovers. Great food, great service. What we recommend ordering: they have a shogun special for two. It's a surf and turf combo that includes: noodles, rice, soup, veggies and the steak and lobster for roughly $60. Well worth it!

The atmosphere here is crazy. Throw on a dress or some slacks, grab some friends and spend a few hours here at the hibachi sipping on cocktails and having a grand ole time. The performance is fun and interactive in the best of ways. If you're more of a wallflower then dine near the sushi bar. You can still watch the hibachi like a peeping tom and still have wonderful service and food. The menu is large and reminded me of Haiku, which was an epic failure, but the sushi we ordered at Shogun was absolutely perfect and put my apprehensions at ease. Haiku was the polished Wal*Mart turd of Japanese cuisine. The Alaskan roll - the fresh salmon was not the least bit fishy, the rice was perfectly sticky but not mush. The flavors were very light and fresh and worked great as a palate cleanser with our other rolls. The Spicy snow crab roll - Literally a roll packed with flavorful, spicy crab. The Crispy tempura shrimp roll - This thing was stuffed with crispy shrimp that remained crispy the entire time. Three hand rolls and a beer cost me $27, which was well worth it for the fresh food and service we received. Aside from the master entertainer behind the hibachi and the outstanding fresh seafood, the interior here is what makes this feel like a hot stop. When you enter through the grand doors, you walk across a koi pond with a clear bridge. The fiery orange walls, fun and appropriate but toned down music gives it an outgoing vibe. We only stopped here to curb a hunger pang before dinner time but we will be back for an evening out.

Ate at Shogun Sushi and Hibachi with my severely disabled son, my wife and my 11 mo old daughter. The staff went out of their way to make sure we felt comfortable. The filet was top notch. One word review: Frequent

Food/Drink: Well shucks, who'd of thunk a good hibachi place in Burnsville. We came a little early on Saturday, but it was pretty empty (good for us). The relatives wanted hibachi and we did it. I also ordered a chefs plate of sushi. First let's talk Sushi, wowzers. I was impressed by that alone. The sashimi tuna and salmon where both very good and the rest of the sushi tasted super fresh with just the right amount of sauce. We didn't do any rolls, but not afraid of that next time. The hibachi was good, but you have to really be into it. Let's just say the sauces on the side make everything better if you're of the mindset that it's just a stir fry. It's basically a one plate meal, but it's a pretty full plate (starters of salad, soup ,etc). It's good to see your food freshly cooked (and to order) and if you want it spicy, just ask. Ambiance: Here's where this place gets me (as well as many others like it). They're huge, mostly because of the open fire and ventilation necessary making it seem super dead when they're dead. It's also a little dark for my tastes, but then again come for dinner and drinks and this'll be the perfect joint. The bar on the right side when you enter just screams dive bar with a note of cool (you can get sushi there after all). Service: Hibachi chefs are the king here. Remember, they're doing the "show" all the time and it can drag on. That being said, ours entertained us, played some tricks, engaged us in conversation, everything they're supposed to do to make sure the whole table is having fun while they're cooking. So yes, if you need a little extra "show" and "service", this works great and they know their tricks (you can always ask for ones if you'd like). Overall: So here's the thing. Shogun as a Sushi place in Burnsville, yes please. Shogun as a Hibachi place in Burnsville, I wouldn't even know where else to send you. So if you're hankering for a little show with dinner, this is the place to do it. Reasonably priced, good food and great for large groups.

I like this place. Yes, I do. It's by my house, it has a koi pond a bridge over the koi pond and nice decor and last but not the least, food is awesome and very reasonably priced. Now the review. This restaurant is at a highly visible place and well decorated from outside. You walk in and you find yourself walking over a koi pond over the bridge towards the hostess. The hostess was very professional and courteous. I was here before but left the phone in the car, so didn't take any pics, so today I made sure to take some. I sat at the sushi bar for lunch. This place was pretty empty on a Monday. The sushi chef is not a conversation starter type, but once you start talking to him, he opens up and he has a lot to say too. Very pleasant conversation. He suggested that I try the chef's special today. I agreed. He gave me a octopus salad on the house (SCORE!!!), it was amazing!!! I can go back just to have that again. Chef's choice had sushi, nigiri and sashimi combination of Tuna, Salmon, Yellow tail and I forgot the last one. They were all great. I definitely enjoyed my lunch. I will return with hunger again

A good place to have hibachi in Burnsville. Large enough to accommodate parties with no notice. Small parties can be accommodated in the dining section that has a nice ambiance. Kids meals are huge! But be aware that it can be loud if there are hibachi tables in use.

Prompt and friendly service. We had hibachi. Good prices! Especially for a Sunday. Tasty salmon, fried rice, soup, salad, and yum yum sauce. I'd go back just for the Yum Yum and to try their sushi. Very pleased.

I've always had a stellar experience here. I can honestly say that I'm a sushi snob and to know that there's a gem of a sushi joint right here in Burnsville is unbelievable!!! The staff is so kind, the food is so good, and the service is always top notch. Give this place a try and you won't be disappointed.

This restaurants food was so good. I tried it for lunch once. Ordered the Chicken Hibachi lunch special and it came with the perfect amount of everything. The shrimp sauce is better than Benihana's. I ended up going back for dinner that same day.

Love this place! Quality is the same as other local Japanese restaurants, but it's a little more inexpensive- and fried rice is free with hibachi (not an extra charge) Great happy hour specials and lunch menu. I haven't gotten sushi there yet, but have tried several of the hibachi options (shrimp, lobster, steak, chicken) and all were good.

Shogun Sushi and Hibachi just opened up about 2 days ago. I've been driving by almost everyday driving on 42 now let me tell you this place has been a miss for the previous 3-4 business that have failed to remain open. Walking into the restaurant you are crossing over a small pond its actually pretty neat no fish but still cool. Then you are greeted by a hostess they offer either the seated dining area for sushi and the sushi bar, bar or the hibachi tables. We originally came in for sushi and after looking at the menu decided to go with the Hibachi they kindly moved us without giving us any grief. It looked like they had 8 hibachi tables and private one in the back. Our chef of the night was Tom he was very entertaining and offered the usual sake in the mouth fun and singing/volcano moves while cooking. We ordered the Shogun Special for 2 $60.00 It included Lobster, filet mignon, shrimps, fried rice, noodles, veggies and shrimp apps, soup, and salad WHEW! Needless to say I have plenty leftover for lunch. They also offer the typical sauces the white sauce and the ginger. Everything was cooked perfectly and tasted great. Also the tuna tataki which was ok probably wouldn't order again for $10.00 Having Shogun so close to home i will for sure visit once more and especially for lunch the prices seemed very good!

This review is for the dining area, not the hibachi. We wanted some sushi and decided to give this relatively new spot a try. It was pretty slow on a weekday evening, just a few tables in the spacious dining area. It was apparent that the place was entirely managed and staffed by mainland Chinese, since some us happen to speak mandarin. We had a couple of rolls, some udon noodle, and some nigiri sushi and sashimi. The salmon roll was decent and tasty, the BMW roll was not bad but nothing special and forgettable. The udon noodles were firm and chewy, unfortunately the broth was mediocre. Most of the sushi and sashimi were actually pretty decent, except a couple of them were apparently not fresh and of subpar quality. When brought up to the waitress, who has been very friendly and courteous the entire night, nothing was said except "oh you don't like it?". We couldn't even finish it. Overall, some of us were not too happy with the food we received while others are willing to give it another try. However how they handled the incident with the "not so fresh" sashimi left a bad taste on most of our mouth. For what we spent for the night, we could easily gotten a decent meal at other fine establishments in town. We want to give their hibachi another try but unsure based on how they treat their customers. We shall see.

My daughter and i ate at the sushi bar and were very happy with the service and quality of sushi. Was a cool environment too and the host/manager (contrary to previous reviews) was super friendly and accommodating. I cant wait to bring my whole family here!

The two of us went on a Friday night around 5:30, and we were seated right away. We sat at the regular tables rather than the hibachi grill, because we didn't have a lot of time. We did both order from the hibachi menu though, the chicken and the steak. Our waitress was attentive, and accommodating of our request to skip the included shrimp due to allergies. Our food came surprisingly quickly, and was delicious! I didn't notice a spicy chicken option like Benihana has, but I amped up my plain chicken with the ginger sauce and shrimp sauce, and I was satisfied. I ate the leftovers the day after, and it all tasted just as good! I'm excited to try their other menu offerings!

Conveniently located, with easy parking. Not a bad spot for Hibachi and sushi in the suburbs. I'm a bigger fan of the sushi than their Hibachi. Fircreacker roll is my favorite, sumo roll was okay. Maki combos are great because they give you 6 peices of my favorite "basic" sushi types (salmon, tuna, and yellowtail rolls). Hibachi is fun too-- great family spot to celebrate birthdays. They make you don the mask as corny music plays. Complimentary fried ice cream for your birthday is delicious too, that comes with a candle. They even take a picture of your party, which you can choose to either keep or sign and hang in their front entrance!

This place just opened a month ago, service is good, and we love that you can order meals from the hibachi grill without having to actually sit at the grill. Sushi is really good. My husband has also gotten a bento box and it came with so much food! When you order a hibachi meal you get a ginger dressing salad, soup, fried rice (can substitute brown rice or white rice) Japanese noodles, and a heaping portion of delicious vegetables along with whichever meat/seafood you order with it. Haven't sat at the grill but there are often families with kids sitting in the grill area having fun so it's definitely kid friendly.

My husband and I a big sushi fans, so we were extremely happy when Shogun opened in Burnsville. The restaurant did not disappoint. We ordered a Sushi and Sashimi for 2 and not only the fish was fresh and tasty, but the presentation was beautiful. They brought to the table a big sushi boat filled with yummy variety and decorated with flowers. Such a creativity! The restaurant space is pretty big, and they have a special area for hibachi. As you enter, you will step over a pond with koi fish, which is nice touch. Atmosphere is comforting and inviting, so we will be back many times.

Fresh and delicious! The shrimp sauce is my favorite and the price is super reasonable. I got the chicken and shrimp hibachi dinner for 22$ which also came with a large portion of rice with shrimp sauce, veggies, noodles, soup and salad. I got this order to go, but I will definitely be back to dine in!

Food was good service was good but was harassed about not giving enough for a tap and had to write a letter saying why I didn't give a larger tip The management actually walked me out the door and made me write it

Hi Shogun. Nice to meet you. I sincerely hope you don't fall victim to location like those before you in this building. You've done some renovations. I like them. We came here for lunch one day and it was a shame we were the only customers. This place rocks it in the ambiance, service and food departments. The first thing you will notice is the fish pond below your feet when you walk in. The bar area looks fantastic with the dim lighting. The hibachi areas are large, clean and inviting. We chose hibachi for lunch and we still got a show even though it was just two of us. The food quality was apparent and on par with other hibachi joints. I tried the filet mignon and shrimp. Both were fresh and tasty. I do really think this place has the ability to be great with a little word of mouth advertising. It'll be a great night time hangout and a place to bring the family for hibachi. Get there!

  • Rebekah W.

Yay for hibachi veggies! When you walk in, there is a clear walkway with water on either side and underneath with some koi fish. The decor is clean and the staff was very nice. My gentleman and our children all sat at the hibachi tables and ordered a variety of seafood and steak. The hibachi chef was hilarious and gave some extra attention to our little girls (not in a creepy way!). We really enjoyed his hibachi show. The food was pretty good; standard hibachi fare. We also ordered a sushi roll that was pretty tasty. Overall, it was a good experience and we will be back. We are happy to have a nice hibachi place in Burnsville.

The food was good like the other all u can eat sushi places but the service really sucks.. I ordered fried scallops and a few dishes when the waiter first came but I never got them. The waiter never came to check on us and ask how we were doing, I had to flag him down to inquire about the rest of my food. When I did, he promised to check on it. I flagged him him down three times for my food, some of my dishes never made it to my table. I have to say other koyoto places have great services but not this one. I left home unhappy because the service sucks

  • Gary R.

We tried a good enough variety of the menu to make a good assessment. The raw items everyone likes. Everything cook was far below desired expectations. The edamame needed seasoning, the pork cutlet was overcooked and needed salt and the katsu sauce taste like A1 steak sauce. The fried rice was greasy and also lakes flavor. The chicken yakitory was not seasoned and didn't have any char which is part of the reason to get yakitory. Just a lame experience.

This place has two other locations, Mankato, Alaska somewhere, and now Burnsville. When I first walked in, I thought "too good for the burbs, will never last." I guess I will have to wait and see on that. You open the doors to go inside and you walk over a koi pond with four fountains on each side of the glass walkway....wow! They have plenty of staff on the floor, both times here there was no waiting on ordering more dishes. The food was very good. Flavorful and as fresh as you can get in Minnesota, everything I ordered was on par with the sushi establishments in the city. From the unagi and madai to the winter rolls and salmon, everything was too notch. I enjoy my salmon with a sliver of mayo and lightly torched. Both meals here were sushi, maybe next time I will try the hibachi.

Had a great time! Upon entering this restaurant you walk over a little pond with fish in it--I found this pretty cool. We had made a reservation so we did not have a wait time to be seated. Our hostess was very nice and attentive. We did not have to wait long periods of time for drinks or refills or to just be asked how everything was going. Our chef lacked the showmanship Ive seen at other hibachi places which was slightly disappointing because it was my boyfriends first time at a hibachi restaurant but where he lacked in putting on a show he made up for in the taste of the food! We ordered the steak, lobster and shrimp and everything was made perfectly! Everything was mouth-wateringly delicious! We also ordered sushi and it was honestly the best Ive had , and Im not a nice sushi critic ;p For dessert we had deep fried cheesecake and it was just as great as everything else we ordered. All in all, it was a great visit and we WILL be returning!

This place made some of the best sushi I've ever had in Minnesota. The Chef's special rolls are fantastic. The koi pond in the entrance is also a nice touch.

I cannot understand how this place isn't busy!! I have now been here twice and think that I can now give a qualified review. The environment is breathtaking, the service is impeccable (possibly due to low cust volume), and the sushi is fresh and delicious. If you're at the sushi bar, the chefs will prepare a beautiful little appetizer to get you started, which is complimentary and won't be the same twice....well from what I've seen sitting at the bar. I would certainly reccomend!

My husband and I are big fan with Benihana or Osaka food. We decide to try shogun last night since we both work close by and very disappoint of the food. Sushi are good but when we order the dinner for 2 come with file migon, lobster and shrimp. That whole meal were terrible. We both ask for medium steak and they came well done. The food the so cold when they brought to us. We came with another couple friend and their food were the same way. Our bill were over $100 which that normal price but for cold food and burn steak are absolutely not coming back

Outstanding! Great hibachi, tender filet, my husband and son loved their scallops and lobster. The sheer amount of food is a fantastic deal. The noodles are wonderful, and so is the fried rice! Give this place a try, because the food is fresh quality, the atmosphere is great, and the drinks are prime.

I have been here at least 4/5 times since they opened and each time I was treated very well and the food and drink came quickly whether I was seated at a table or at the bar or whether I was dining in or doing takeout. I recently brought my parents to try it while they were visiting me from out of town. We had the beef negimai as an appetizer which was very good. Then I had the pork katsu which they give 3 generous cutlets of pork. They changed the katsu sauce from other times I had been-it was more spicy and tangy than what katsu normally tastes like but I really liked that. My mother had the shrimp tempura with assorted veggies. They gave her 3/4 LARGE shrimp and lots of veggies. My father had the sirloin teriyaki which had a ton of veggies in which he loved. Plus of course you get a salad with yummy ginger dressing, miso soup(even takeout they give you a container) and white rice. So while its a bit pricy its worth it with the amount of food and serving size you are given. Def give it a try!

Just finished a hibachi dinner there. Everything we had was great. I am glad to have a hibachi place close to home. Taste, quality and value comparable to other similar restaurants.
