I thought I would give my dietary track another asian infusion. It's well documented in my reviews that I am partial to the meat and potatoe. My asian prowess leaves a lot to be desired. This restaurant is your expected chinese restaurant in a strip mall. Not very fancy, decent food for a decent price. I had my usual ABC(Almond Boneless Chicken). The brown gravy was decent. Food was very hot. Egg rolls very egg rollyish. As is always, too much to eat. In the mood for chinese food, this will be my go to when at work.

Decided to go after reading the reviews. The food was pretty much awful. Ordered several things since I haven't been there before. Almost everything went into the trash after the first bite. Pork chow mein: Came in a puddle of grey gelantinous sauce. No flavor and very mushy. The entire container went in the trash Beef with broccoli: About 50% of the container was onions and so everything tasted like onions. Beef was grey and fairly tasteless. Broccoli was horribly overcooked and mushy. Went in the garbage. Eggrolls: Completely awful! The filling literally was 100% bean sprouts....I pulled it out and checked after the first gross bite. No carrots, scallions, proteins...Just ate the wrapper. Thew them away. Crab rangoons: Basically all cream cheese without any noticeable crab. Threw most of them away. Sweet and sour pork: My daughters like it. Nice and crunchy. Sauce was so so. Pork fried rice: Pretty tasty. This and the s/s pork were the only things not thrown in the trash. Will not go again. Save your money and try someplace else!!!

HI was a regular part of my diet when I was a younger lad, living in metro Detroit. I've since developed my palate significantly since then, but this place has the Sweet and Sour dishes MASTERED. Just go there and order a combination special. It's portioned to feed a small army, so bring a friend. The decor is questionable, but I enjoy that about the place (it reminds me of my youth). I'm not sure if HI offers brown rice - if not, they need to.

Hawaiian Island has lost it's greatness, which is a shame. I grew up on HI and after entering college and trying other chinese restaurants i considered myself very lucky. Hawaiian Island used to have the hands down best egg rolls, the meat was never "mystery" and the sauces were top notch. Also since leaving home for college every time I have come back I make it my business to eat at HI-I even once flew with 4 egg rolls to Seattle where I lived for friends to try. Within the last year or so I have eaten HI 6-8 times-each time has been a case of giving it one more shot. I will not be giving it another. The egg rolls now are GREASY-bad greasy. Like after a bite your lips feel waxy and your stomach feels bad. They are no longer crunchy but soggy and hard to bite into. The rice kind of tasted like bad breath, seriously, and the meat has turned somewhat into mystery. My family had sweet and sour chicken-and that is still pretty good, but also very greasy. The only thing I still think is top notch is the egg drop soup. So as much as it pains me to say, Hawaiian Island has lost it and here's my plea to the universe-Please restore the HI to their former glory!!!

Hawaiian Island is our favorite Chinese restaurant downriver. Have been going there for years & it has consistantly good food. The prices especially for lunch with their combo meals are fantastic. The place is super fast too in & out in no time for those on a tight schedule.

Went on the recommendation of a former boss and must say I enjoyed it. Helpings were big enough and the food was good... Except the Crab Rangoon which was way too sweet for my taste.

Love this place, but it is definitely an acquired taste, because I hated it the 1st time I went nearly 20 years ago. Shrimp &/or chicken fried rice & egg rolls "BEST EVER!" Sweet & sour chicken & wonton soup are really good. Their hot mustard sauce & hot oil are "GREAT" condiments! Sunday buffet is pretty good as well. Service is acceptable, but the restaurant is not the cleanest, especially the restrooms :-)

It's not the best I have ever had but it has always been decent or better. Large portions, quick carry out. This place is always slammed on the weekends.

This is a great place to get your fill of fatty Chinese food if that's what you're craving! We did a take-out order and it was ready very quickly. The chicken had a ton of batter on it which tastes great but left me feeling sick for about an hour after. The sauces were good (normal Chinese stuff). The crab rangoon was above average in my book, really creamy. Eggrolls were gross. All that said, if you're craving some greasy Chinese food, hit up Hawaiian Island. If you're looking for something quick that won't make you feel sick, better look elsewhere.

My family and I have been going here over fifteen years and their food is great food for a great price. My family gatherings can get pretty large and the waitstaff have always been able to handle the large group quite well. The egg drop soup is second to none, and I've been to many, many Chinese food places. Their Sweet & Sour anything is delicious (I prefer chicken) and in spite of a large appetite or sharing with a young niece or nephew, I always have leftovers that are just as good for a leftovers lunch the next day. Yes, the decor is dated and hasn't changed in over 15 years (except for a renovation of the bathrooms). Yes, the shopping center it's located in is nearly deserted (largely the fault of the management company). Yes, the whole neighborhood is run down (auto industry slow-down). But the fact that the same restaurant has survived when so many aren't speaks for itself.

I've been coming here for the past couple of years since I moved to the downriver area. The food is very good. Egg drop soup is the best I've had. I'm more of a picky eater so simple things like, fried rice, are more of what I enjoy eating. I've tried their steak and mushrooms dish with white rice and it's very flavorful. I recently moved from the area, and I find myself craving this place! I highly recommend it for your fatty Chinese goodness!

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
