I've been coming here for fifty years and it's still my favorite Chinese restaurant of all time. Why?? It's all about the egg rolls and plum sauce for me - simply the best I've ever had. The rest of the food is good and it's consistent! I assure you I have fifty years of experience here. The ambience is still the same and I remember the waitresses even if they don't seem to remember me! and since I always remind them for my fortune cookie they should! See you next time I'm in town from Texas!

This restaurant has been there since 1963! The food is really good, depending on what you order. They don't have fried noodles, just fried rice. Their fried rice is not bad. Their Wonton Soup is amazing. Ask for extra chards in it! Their orange sweet sauce is amazing. Both chicken and beef are good. The only thing I don't like (and I don't expect it to change) is the customer service. They're rude and they ask for tips if you dine in, and they yell at you if you don't tip them. Overall, I'd just get take-out so I only have to deal with the rudeness over the phone and when I pick up the food.

TERRIBLE SERVICE. Food is mediocre at best. Skip it not worth the price or enduring the terrible terrible service.

Very very good fried rice, sweet and sour chicken, egg foo young. The best Chinese food I've ever had and they said my food would be ready in 15 minutes and it was ready in less time than that.

I have been going to Wing Hong since I was 5. I'm 46 now. I grew up here. It was the only Chinese restaurant near my house for ages. My mom and I still love coming here. Not because it's the best, but because it's familiar to us. That said...this place has not changes one BIT in over 40 years! It really needs a facelift. If you want to see what a Chinese restaurant looked like in 1979, then look no further. That said, they still have great food. My fav, General Tso's is always good, and I love their chicken and shrimp fried rices. Staff is always friendly and helpful. If they were to just repaint, and ditch the 50 year old kitschy decor, this place could really take off again.

Relied on the rating for this place, it's alright. Definitely not 4 stars!! I ordered schezuan chicken, it wasn't spicy but also the chicken tasted like it was about to turn. I had two other people try it and they agreed. However everyone else got fried or breaded chicken dish and they didn't have complaints about theirs, except that the sauce was sweet on the general tso's chicken. The prices for lunch combinations were pretty reasonable and the portions were pretty large. $50 for five lunch combinations and one dinner order with a large fried rice.

Okay. Ummm I have seen the good reviews on here about this place. I am sad to say however that it was not even remotely okay to me. So first off. The place just seems out right dingy. Like it has not been cleaned for a while and that was evident due to the dust that was laying around on all the surfaces. The waitress got my food order totally wrong a number of times. Oh and I also saw some insects walking around.

My husband always took us there to dine when we dated and he orders the HarKow consistently. It all but one time in all these years has been less than "Good eating". I have ordered occasionally saucy dishes and not been been as pleased. The shrimp fried rice is good as well. They are very consistent with healthy versions of Chinese cuisine. Great for those of us who can not indulge in way too many calories. It is not a place that I or my husband will replace, old chairs, tables, carpet and all....It's Wing Hong!

Sunday Evening. 3 Tables filled. 4 People came in for takeout. Service slow. Wonton Soup Good. Egg Roll Good. Scheszwan Shrimp not as spicy as I like. I do like thinner sauces cause I'm not a sauce obsessed American. I'd go back. Sure.

Wing Hong Restaurant is one of those places where time has stood still. To me that makes it quaint, to you maybe outdated. I like the original paintings on the walls that speak of a time in China when men wore pigtails and women delicate silk gowns, and where transportation took place by rickshaw. Those days are gone, but Wing Hong, which has served Detroit families since the Sixties is still here and is still being operated by the same family of Chinese immigrants. Sadly, with Detroit's demise came an exodus of customers and so Wing Hong became a frozen gem. A gem? Really? The carpet is old and so are the tables and chairs and the help are no spring chickens either, BUT, speaking of chickens, the almond boneless chicken is still to die for, the pepper steak has remained everyone's favorite, and the egg rolls are still a staple starter of every meal. Now, not everyone can be expected to be familiar with real Chinese food, so the menu lists time-honored standbys like egg foo young, but look for french fries and you won't find it, and that is because the menu lists genuine Chinese dishes and they are worthy of your dollar. Speaking of dollars, this is a value restaurant. Portions are large and prices are low, but I wouldn't return here from time to time if the quality of the food wasn't first rate. The meats are succulent, seasoned right, and the vegetables arrive sizzling hot and crisp. And to me, you recognize a good Chinese restaurant by the freshness of its produce. That means the owners still go to the market every morning to get you what they eat themselves. Chinese eat well and are rarely obese, so if you care about your health you may want to look into making this restaurant a regular destination. I think it wholly deserves it.

I used to go to this place as a kid all the time and always got the almond boneless chicken. I now live at the other end of the country, but when I was in town visiting, I decided to check out my family's old favorite Chinese restaurant. The decor didn't look like it had changed since the 70's, which was hilarious. I ordered exactly what I always used to order -- eggrolls, wonton soup, and almond boneless chicken. Everything was exactly as I remember it tasting. I have never found that almond boneless chicken any where else. Wing Hong is the only business at that busy intersection that has survived for the last forty-plus years. That's gotta mean something.

I love Wing Hong! Every time I visit Detroit stopping here is a must. The food is delicious and the owner, Patrick is very friendly and accommodating. My last experience was definitely 5 star worthy!! Can't wait to go back.

If you're looking for standard fare American Chinese food, you'll find it here. Large portions and prompt service with predictable menu. Hot and Sour soup was pretty robust. Egg Rolls were the typical shredded cabbage style. Entrees were good but a bit salty. Overall what I would expect at this price.

Stopped here for weekday lunch - totally solid mainstay dishes, well executed. My choice was Szechuan shrimp, with vegetable soup and hot tea, priced under $8. Generous portions.

There was something swimming in my wong tong soup and wasn't no crackers. There really isn't much for me to say except that the experiece scarred me for life. I haven't had any wong tong soup and I won't ever eat at this restaurant again. I know all places that store and prepare food have some sort of issues but this was a straight disgrace and then the waiter tried to play it off like there wasn't anything wrong. Disguisting!

My family has been going to this place since way before I was born, and for as long as I can remember we would get take out from Wing Hong. Any time I am within 50 miles of it, I'm there. The food is always consistently excellent, and has been every single time I have gone. I highly recommend the almond boneless chicken, which it seems is a dish proprietary to the Detroit area. I've been all over the country and haven't found anything like it anywhere else. I actually flew home to LA with some last time I was there. Patrick and everyone there are always very friendly. I hope they stay around long enough so that I can one day take my kids here.

Wing Hong is a nice dine-in Chinese food option. Typically I always get my Chinese food take-out, but at this restaurant I actually don't mind sitting down and eating in their establishment. The service here is pretty quick. I don't venture too far into the "different' things on the menu, and am usually comfortable and satisfied ordering the Sweet & Sour Chicken meal. They come with a great-tasting dinner roll (I don't know too many Chinese food places that serve dinner rolls). The prices are pretty cheap as well, with the average meal being $7.

This is a great little place serving standard American Chinese food dishes. I work nearby and find it is very convenient to go here for lunch -- the service is prompt and courteous. The food is much better than the many other Chinese places in the area and is usually less expensive.

I can't begin to explain how good the service is. They even brought my carryout to my car because I have 9 month old twins that would've been a project to get in and out of the car. The steak kow had fresh veggies and a light sauce (the perfect stir fry) & the chicken sizzle soup was the best comfort soup I've had in a long time. I will definitely go back.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
