The Beach Cruiser American Wheat is delicious! My husband got the Mikes Camaro California Common Ale and said it was a good solid beer. The beer cheese soup was nice & creamy, but watch out for the jalapeños because they are HOT! I ordered the Grilled Chicken Club with a side the Mac & Cheese. The sandwich had a nice smokey flavored, and was perfect for a lighter meal option. The Mac & cheese was more noodle than cheese, but was nice because it didn't give me a heavy feeling. The husband got the salmon burger with sweet potato fries. The burger was good, but needed a little more sauce (the waitress brought out a little cup for him). The sweet potato fries looked over-cooked, but the middle was nice & tender. Going to give the Lil' Sunshine Golden Ale and the I.P.EH! a try before we hit the road.

Great food and beer. They really seem to have got it right great selection of beers and food. The double chocolate oatmeal stout is amazing. We're visitors to Kalamazoo visiting Michigan family so we had to buy a Growler to take with us back to Texas - it does travel Ok Our only complaint on the menu was the Turkey bacon Brie sandwich it had so much potential But ours was relatively dry sliced turkey very small piece of bacon and hardly noticeable Brie. This could be so much better with a thick piece of applewood smoked bacon and a piece of goey Brie.

Fantastic food and good beer! We sat out on the patio, which was nice. I ordered their grilled chicken lettuce wrap and sweet potato fries - SO good! The beer I ordered was the lilikoi wheat! Perfect for a hot day - very light and crisp and served with an orange slice! Our waitress was very attentive and took great care of us! Latitude 42 is definitely back on my list of great local options!

Where do I start? Truffles fries as an app were tasty. I make a great Tomato Basil soup, but I think their's may be better. Fun atmosphere, good service. I enjoyed the 6 beer sampler as a way to try a few of the approx. 15 offerings. None of them were overdone - koudos to the brewmaster for some restraint. Prime Rib sandwich was a 4 out of 5. Daughter really likes the Black Bean / Quinoa Burger, finishing every bite. Jerk Chicken Tacos were okay. Seemed like every platter being brought out had at least one order of Tacos. The topping tonight - Wing's playoff game in TV. Bottom line - I wish this was close to home so I could be a regular. I am waffling on whether to give the 5th star - need to come back to study.

Tonight they are getting 2 stars because Matt and Melissa are so kind, but I hope you don't encounter bad food because Sue the manager will make you feel like an idiot. She was so condescending. I don't think I have ever sent food back but I sent the turkey Brie sandwich back. It was super dry, the turkey didn't even span across the sandwich . One slice of apple and not even a full slice of bacon. I know things happen and all I asked is that the cook knows, but then I had to encounter Sue. So not worth the hassle. She's horrible to say the least. Matt gave us a six pack of the beer we were drinking. Thank you Matt and Melissa for the excellent service.

Insanely good food, good beers and worth the stop! Top notch service in a rather large building with space for all. Short rib sandwich is a winner as are the pretzels!

Beer was good and food was good too! Neat concept on pairing food with the beer. Price is right for the ingredients they use for their food. Beer is similar to the bigger breweries around Kalamazoo and Battle Creek areas. The atmosphere was great. Definitely try this place out!

Latitude 42 is one of the many local breweries in the Kalamazoo and Portage region. This brewery does both beer and food and has a very elaborate menu with beers that are frequently added and removed. They have some very good standbys, I am quite fond of porter-style and their Powerline Porter is quite a competent porter beer. Their food items are very good for the price and the flavors are spot on. The style is casual, and the atmosphere is relaxed. The servers are very friendly and quite knowledgable about both the food items and the beer selections. The bar servers have even more experience with their beers and are very good when trying to figure out what you might like that they have available. Parking is never a problem, however the entrance is on Portage Ave, and if you miss it, you have to turn around - that's the only little bit of advice that's a trick with Latitude 42.

I don't give out 5 very often, but this has become my favorite hang out spot! I'm chilling here, hanging out with friends and even doing homework! They have great beer!! I would really try the schoolhouse honey if you like ambers. The staff is friendly and kind, they are willing to go above and beyond to make you happy. They have good food, iv only had a few things, but what I have had I really like. The atmosphere is chill and you can sit at the bar and meet someone new, which is a huge plus for me! Honestly this is my new favorite bar!! I plan on coming here quite often, so if you ever wanna have a drink I may see you here Cheers!!

From the begining we were experience a great treatment and very serviceable staff. Everyone was always eager to make you feel like a family member. Food was so delicious and not expensive, outstanding ribbon for the Chef. Our evening was taking care by Kelsey, who did above and beyond service with a smile, thanks Kelsey. TVs were all around the bar to see all sports, super...! I recommend Latitude 42 Brewing Company to everyone who visit the area, you will be for an awesome and an a happy evening...! Thanks again: Ms. Sue, Ms. Hannah and Ms. Kelsey...God Bless You... I am definitely coming back...

Happy hour on a Sunday afternoon is definitely the time to visit. On top of that the music playing is a bit quieter and the bartender is extremely friendly and willing to spend time sharing some samples of the crisp cold beer. We have been here several times and I think we have found the sweet spot for day and time. There is an added bonus from 2-5 when they run happy hour pricing on small plates and beer pints. For starters we ordered crab dip, which comes with a small loaf of crostini which is served in a small cast iron skillet. It was served bubbly hot and has the taste of the sea which is what I expect in a crab dip. We tried a few samples of beer and then chose pints of school house honey which is a local honey amber and is 5%. This is a beer that you could have all the time and is smooth and really honey tasting which makes it an easy drinker. I had a pint of doggie fresh, which is a wet hopped pale ale at 6% and is as smooth as a babies bottom! Overall I changed my initial review of Latitude 42 from 3 stars to 4 stars because of the experience we had today, however, they still miss a star because the hostess had no idea there was a happy hour and was clueless. The saving grace was our bartender! Keep it up Latitude and you'll get there!

The Island fever coconut milk stout is one of the better milk stouts I've had, probably beating out Left Hand (which I feel has gotten worse in the last year or so). Just what it advertises and super smooth.

Great service, great food, great atmosphere!! A manager of some sort, came over to check on our dinner experience. He informed us that they serve Michigan sourced ingredients! Sweet!!! They change menu every 6 months. I really like supporting local farms. I had the French dip, a few different beers, and German chocolate cake. Holy shhh--crap! That was so good!! I mean, REALLY good! French dip was perfect, the dessert was even better. The chocolate was drizzling off the top. Very decadent! I'm obsessed with the fact that 1.00 of the proceeds goes to ALS foundation if you order the IPA Wanda. So, do yourself a favor and order one for the night. It's damn good too! The story behind that is very compelling. The brewers grandmother died of ALS so he came up with a beer in her honor and they the company decided to donate a dollar for every beer sold. I'm so happy I decided to come here tonight. It was a great experience. Great for kids too! I forgot to mention.

The food here never disappoints! The blackened shrimp tacos - divine! Beer cheese soup is a must have. Sometimes the service is a little slow, but the food is always worth the wait. Oh, and they have great beer!

Solid spot for dinner. We had the pizza an it was good. The bartender and our waitresses were friendly and did a nice job.

My husband and I visited for the first time over the weekend. First impression, great atmosphere and great food menu. We only had a few apps (which were really good), but all of the food coming out looked fantastic. Neither of us were huge fans of the beer. We visit a lot of breweries, so maybe we've gotten a little too picky. It was good, but nothing that really blew us away.

Latitude 42 is another up and coming brewery in our lovely area and the long waitlist during the dinner rush proved the awesome support they are receiving from our community! Luckily, there were 2 open seats at the bar that my person and I ninja'd Moral of the story: It gets crowded- get there early! The food was good, but somewhat lacked creativity and I felt the menu was a little pricey. I like to be considered somewhat of a craft connoisseur so I was very excited to try their brews. Alas, I forgot my license, so I was a sad panda sitting on a stool that day. My person, however, thought their beer was alright. The cool part was that the bar manager came up and talked to us to see how we were doing; we actually ended up having quite a lengthy convo about the brewery as a whole. Keep in mind that I've only been here once, I am definitely planning to check in again!

  • Dede L.

Definitely make reservations. We got there with a party of 5 and the wait was about 45 minutes, there is not really a waiting area or a place to sit but I don't think we actually waited for 45 minutes. They sat us at the hightop with another couple who asked to be moved after we sat down. The waitress came quickly with water and for our drink order. We ordered the spinach dip appetizer, I ordered the braised beef tacos with a side of their macaroni and cheese. I know it's an odd combo but my husband and I are sort of cheese connoisseurs. The spinach dip was very good and so was the beer cheese soup. The tacos were by the far the best though. I loved them. The Mac and cheese was just mac and cheese nothing to special it was good but not above average. 3 stars for being a good restaraunt but nothing that I would say "oh my gosh we are definitely coming back here" for.

  • Nicholas K.

We made reservations on a Saturday night and had a large group. The service was slow and the food took an hour to get to us but it was really good and the beer was great too. It was worth the wait. The waiter was really friendly and seemed to know the beer and menu well.

Pho-Nom-I-Nall!!!! We were traveling from Detroit, back home to Indiana and we wanted to find a place that wasn't too far off the beaten path. I, being the navigator, selected a Brewery because I love beer. This place had great beer and awesome food. Foster was cool, kept calling me Jive Turkey, and Christina was was super chill, she was funny and knew the menu inside and out. We felt like family. And though we live over an hour away, we will be back!

    (5)
  • Jeremy L.

Love this place even to the extent that I drove 45 mins to have the tacos and get there in plenty of time before they said they close at 9 and Yelp says they close at 9. Got there at 8:31 (no joke) and they said they only serve pizza after 8:30. It says that no where and when I called to make sure they were open until 9 they never said that either. Really sucks sitting around everyone else eating the menu including the tacos that you drove 45 mins for and you can only get pizza.

Still amazing 2 years later!!! I would recommend the Diablo or Honey beer. The Craft2Lunch menu is a great addition since I was last here.

Visiting my boyfriend's family in Kalamazoo / Vicksburg ... Ate here as a family the first night. I'm not a big fan of beer so I drank a few sangria's. For an appetizer we ordered wings, fried calamari and edamame. (they were all good but the calamari was my favorite). Everybody liked what they ordered for dinner... I loved my steak sandwich with au jus... And I tried one of my boyfriend's shrimp tacos. It was good. If I ever come back I might try the macaroni and cheese.

The ambience & layout of this brewery is spectacular. It's very unique in that way, I've seen more families here at a brewery than I've seen at any other. It gives it that very "homey" feeling. At the same time though the excellent food & large selection of beer to choose from will keep the most ardent craft beer drinker happy.

I'm surprised this place has taken a few unworthy beatings on yelp. I think Latitude 42 is excellent. Restaurants are a tough business especially in these parts. With a lot of mainstream tastes the businesses that step away from a TGIF/Main St Pub type menu are often punished. This restaurant is the result of millions of dollars invested to round up some serious talent and create a new brand from the ground up. A local gentleman stepped up to build this place and I hope to see everyone get behind this restaurant. From a beermaster moved in from Hawaii, to the former manager of Bravo, to key employees from Zazio's this is a conglomeration of talent and experience. Cost was not spared here. Growing pains. This isn't a prepackaged franchise nor the 4th in a series of pubs so they have to cut their teeth a bit. At first the lines were long and it could take hours to get a table. And yeah, occasionally they got it wrong. But they're working out the kinks and fine tuning the program to deliver top notch food and excellent beer. Stuff I like: Brick ovens pizzas rock. I like the smoked chicken but be ready for a different taste due to the honey BBQ sauce. They also cook some righteous wings in those ovens. Lat 42 serves one of the best burgers in town. This burger isn't your basic Gordon's Food patty. It's made of beef brisket, short rib and black angus. I'd be surprised the price point leaves much room for profit. The grilled avocado chicken club is also a favorite. The appetizer menu has a huge selection though I usually get the tune tartare. Of the salads the Latitude 42 Salad gets my thumbs up (real original name guys). The 50th Anniversary is my favorite beer and it's not hard to ask for a second round. The Milk of Amnesia also tastes great if you're looking for something darker. The beermaster works with the flavors and will occasionally put something together that really hits the spot. The bartenders are hard working, personable and fun to talk to. I'm proud to have a restaurant like this close by. It wish it well and hope to see Latitude 42 become the Portage home town brand!

Goat cheese shrimp pizza is phenomenal! Have had it a hand full of times and never disappoints! The Island Fever (toasted coconut milk stout on Nitro) is my new favorite & I usually don't like stouts! Live their creative water/soda glasses (hey! It's the small details) & they have these amazing locally made six pack holders that are two (lower) Michigan blocks & the handle is the upper peninsula! So fantastic! Plus they highlight all the local farms & companies that are used in their production. Love local support!

  • Debbie M.

Cool place. We were there during happy hour. I got the braised beef sliders. They were fantastic! The others in our party got burgers which they said were very good. My husband had chili also, which I thought was very good. Service was decent also.

  • Darin D.

Jambalaya was AMAZING! Live the beer sweet Lou's stout rocked, and the red beard ale kicked ass as well! I'd defiantly weigh 300lbs if I lived nearby!

  • Aly O.

Pizza was good, but pretty overpriced. All the food seems to be. Pretty good beer. Our bartender seemed pretty preoccupied with her friends on the other side. Another gal ended up helping us more and was much friendlier. I'd come back if I had money to spare but my first stop here, I wasn't blown away.

  • Radon V.

Seating could be a problem, but food arrived promptly and was pretty delicious. Their beer is enough reason to come. It's loud tho - no sound damping and a high ceiling - similar to Founders, so bring your hearing aid or signing skills. Service is great ...friendly and professional.

This was hands down the best place we ate at during our trip to the K-Zoo area. The service was excellent and the food was top notch. I decided to get the Beer Cheese Soup to start and it didn't disappoint. It was super smooth and not gritty like a lot of other places I have tried and it had tons of flavor. The Smoked Chicken Tacos were slammin', bro! They had the perfect amount of smoke flavor and the cheese between shells was a nice touch. They were hands down one of the best non traditional tacos I've ever had. As for beers, the wifey and I split a flight to try out a few and all were good. I was really digging their Hard Cider. It had a nice crisp flavor and was on the sweeter end, but was not overpowering. It was very drinkable (as in the ability to have more than one without having a heavy sugar belly). I also enjoyed the Mango Mama which was a very refreshing light Summery Ale with a hint of fruity flavors on the back end. The Powerline Porter was my favorite amongst the darker heavier beers we tried. You had that pop of coffee/chocolate flavors, but it had a nice clean finish to it. Lastly if you like IPAs give the Red Beards India Red Ale a try. It's not a standard IPA, more of a hybrid between that and a Red Ale, but it was good. Nice hoppy notes you'd expect from an IPA, but it had some malty tones you'd get from a Red Ale too. I am not a huge IPA fan, but it was not bad. I will definitely be going back the next time I take a trip out that way.

Great brewery with great food! I tried several beers before dinner and was very impressed. I really thought they balanced the flavor with the alcohol very well with neither overpowering the other. The food was wonderful and the truffle fries...awesome. The canned beers were wonderful and big hit back home in Tennessee!

  • Henry H.

Consistent good beers and a good selection. The food is also very good. It's a little loud in there, not the best place for conversation, but the prices are pretty good for the upgraded quality. I like the burgers and the pizza and the charcuterie board. That beer cheese spread is good, and it's on the shrimp tacos too. Definitely worth trying.

  • Matthew Z.

Unbelievably large selection of delicious beers. The food is right on par to complement the high quality of beer. This brewery is highly recommended! Make it a point to hit this Michigan brewery from near or far. The beer is too good not to be going regional very soon! Thanks to the fine ownership and management for taking extra care of my wife and I. 10 stars!

    (5)
  • Sam T.

They added sound absorbers throughout, so the noise is much better. They are also starting to come out with new beers. Mostly limited time batches but, hey, that's what's awesome about having four seasons. Get it while it's good.

Unexpected find! This place surprised us in good ways. We wandered in by accident for a beer and ended up deciding to stay and eat. I'm not that much into the craft beers but our excellent bartender (Danny?) greeted us and offered suggestions. I was happy with my lil' sunshine while my husband went for a nice stout. Somehow one beer became two and we stayed for lunch. Good edamame with a twist and we split tasty chicken tacos. We'll be back!

We stop at one of the Michigan breweries almost every time we drive up to Michigan, and last night we tried Latitude 42. It was hard to pass up Bell's, Arcadia, and Dark Horse (well, Dark Horse is closed on Sunday, so that made it easier), but thought something new was in order. We are glad we stopped, as the beer was good, the food decent, but it wasn't good enough to get us to detour from Bell's or Arcadia. The service was a bit off - eager, but not informed, and an order was screwed up due to unfamiliarity with their own menu with no apology (though they did fix it). This place is more Midwestern Family than Hipster in terms of market position. Those with kids should feel comfortable here.

Outstanding and personal service, delicious food and great beer. Can't get much better than that. Thanks for bringing such a great option to Portage diners!

  • Michelle O.

Every time we visit we must get the truffle fries, they are amazing! The beer selection is good. We particularly like the Beach Cruiser and Schoolhouse Honey Amber Ale. Today we had the white truffle mushroom pizza and would definitely order it again.

  • Rachel M.

What a gift this place is to Portage! This is not your average "4-cheese everything" Michigan restaurant. This place is about quality ingredients. They offer sustainable, local and house-made ingredients whenever possible. Their brick oven pizzas are delicious and definitely won't break the bank. Their craft beers are fun! Employees are friendly and attentive. My only suggestion is to incorporate more vegetarian options into the menu.

  • Luke B.

The Reuban is great! So far my favorite beers here are: Red Beards (IRA) and Lucifers Cuvée (a double chocolate rye stout)

  • Daniel D.

If the prices weren't so high I wouldn't expect so much but the food quality is very poor in relation to the food quality and service. The beer sampler was okay. I liked the Diablo beer, very spicy. Not as crazy about the coffee, chocolate beer. Seemed more about the gimmick than the execution. The food is decidedly mediocre. The steak tacos are about the same as Chipotle for double the price. Many menu items seemed poorly conceived and executed. For example, the Chimichurri steak tacos with no actual chimichurri. I think they just picked the name to sound foodie. Or the chicken sandwich wedged between two huge slices if focaccia. It looked like a tie fighter tipped on its side. The service was also very poor. Glasses not cleared away. Repeated requests for items. Pleasant, but very inattentive. Would not return again.

Love the food... haven't had a bad meal here yet. Most every beer has been good as well. My only complaint would be the noise. The fact that it's an actual brewery might be the reason, but it's typically difficult to carry on a conversation here. It's beautiful inside, but I wish the acoustics weren't so terrible

I like this place for several reasons...they have a GF menu for the Hubs and a play area for the kids...and phenomenal beer. My favorite is Island Fever. I could go for one right now...

Very good food! Highly recommend the pretzels and bar cheese dip and the Mac and cheese! We sat at the bar because there is what appeared to be a play corner for kids and we did not want to sit near it. Will definitely make the trip to eat here again.

Love Latitude 42, great food for the foodies, and great beer to go with it. I had a business meeting at this establishment and so glad we went. I did the Monday night pairing, which was an awesome salad, yes I said awesome salad. Herb encrusted whitefish and a orange cake for dessert. Others had burgers which looked good, another had a beef and pasta dish. Which I also tried. Delish. We had great service, but it was a Monday. I did sneak a few sweet potato fries, best I have ever had.

  • Sha N.

The beer is fantastic and the food is great! It can get quite crowded on the weekends but we always managed to find a spot at the bar. The pizzas were good and it was my favorite brewery in the Kzoo area! Can't wait to get back!

  • Marino C.

Great beer and amazing food. I go here very often and always get the portage prime rib and the quality never changes, by far my favorite plate. Pizza is really good and burgers too as well. If you are a beer lover then you must go and the bar is really cool if you just want to get a beer and watch a game. Staff is really friendly too.

The long wait on a Saturday night ended up being a blessing in disguise. After hunting for a bar seat, my boyfriend and I found a pair of stools by the brewery section. We were greeted immediately and our server was extremely friendly. She knew her beers and was very relatable. Our drinks came out quickly, an I-P-Eh and Lil' Sunshine and they were great. We ordered the beer cheese soup, Jerk chicken tacos and Bleu Chip Cheese burger. Our food came out very fast- despite it being so busy. Everything tasted GREAT! The soup was delicious and full of bacon. The tacos were topped with fresh pineapple and came with a generous helping of guacamole. The burger was cooked perfectly, and was devoured quickly. We had the house chips for a side, next time we would probably get fries. I cannot wait to visit again. We had a moment to talk to the manager and she was awesome and very helpful. We can't wait to go back again!

Excellent beer! Get the 6 beer flight to try many. Charcuterie app was delish, especially the beer cheese dip. Salad was yummy too! Good ranch dressing. Open atmosphere. Good service. Would come again!

We visit L42 every chance we get and I tell everyone I know they have the best French dip in town [Portage Prime Rib Sandwich]. I've even converted to drinking Lil Sunshine at home as it is available at my local convenience stores [if yours doesn't carry, just ask them to get it in]. The friend loves the new Doggie Fresh [fresh-hopped Spank Dog] and even though neither of us typically care for stouts, they new Hippie Speed Ball on nitro is delightful! Keep up the good work L42, we'll keep supporting you!

  • Andrew D.

Latitude 42 was pretty good, but nothing special. The overall vibe of the place was forgettable. They had a lot of different beers, but the quality was all over the place. They had a couple that looked like they would be interesting, but just ended up bland. Quite frankly in Kalamazoo I don't think I'll be back. The other options are just too good.

    (3)
  • Terry V.

The beers were quite good, the food was also very good. Burgers were made with excellent quality beef. One of our party thought the olive burger needed a bit more olive...a pretty minor complaint. The beef tacos were 5/5. The deserts were amazing. The Beeramisu was a real surprise...a nearly perfect desert. Nice people, great service (thank you, Kelsey!). Great stop in Kazoo.

One day they take reservations for group of 3, another day they don't. Really disappointing.

  • Gabe S.

I have been here numerous times and have yet to be disappointed. The beer selection changes with the seasons except for a few year-round staples. Every food item I have tried has been delicious, but I think my favorite is the smoked wings. They have a delicious flavor without being drenched in sauce. The burgers are all amazing and cooked to perfection. The entrees are a bit pricey, but well worth it because they are so tasty. The beer flight is a great because you can taste 6 different beers without having to buy a pint. I really love having a place like this nearby!

Good atmosphere but small beer selection. Would highly recommend checking this place out! Service was good and bar area is comfortable and large.

I've had Latitude 42 bookmarked since the second i heard of it and finally was able to plan a trip home to Michigan and visit. Out of our 3.5 day with half to the time in the Detroit area or traveling between the two, we still made a point to visit twice. The first was at night just for beer and my husband and i each got a sampler so we could try almost all of the beers. The sampler sizes are pretty much the size of a shot glass...maybe a few ounces larger but it worked out since we had ordered so many. There is a great range of flavors and I honestly don't know which one I liked the most/least because they were all good in their own respect. Service was alright, the bartender the first visit was good and social but overly so but the waitress for the second visit (lunchtime) forgot some of my order requests which i wasn't too upset over but attention to details in food orders shouldn't be taken lightly. I ordered one of the flatbread/pizzas and it was good, not great, but not terrible either. the dough is on the thinner side and the portion size was good for me, maybe a little bigger than i could eat at once but I tend to eat smaller portions so it would probably be just right for most. Noise wasn't an issue as mentioned in some other posts...seems whatever they added to make it quiet has worked. The building is beautiful and if i lived in Portage/kalamazoo still I'd probably become a regular.

In our recent visit to the tundra that is Michigan this Christmas, Jon and I were treated to a few tasty beers and some yummy apps at the Latitude 42 Brewing Company. First impression, great location, very nice look outside and nice parking lot/entrance. Inside, it was a bit dull and cold. It doesn't "feel" like a brewery in the comfortable sense of the word. The TVs have major glare on them from light outside and they aren't many of them. Other than that the food was amazing and the beers were so good! I had the LIl' Sunshine Golden Ale, and it was very yummy. It takes like sunshine pretty much. I had a few tastes of everyone else's beer as well: Powerline Porter - great!, and I think the Beach Cruiser - very tasty, lots of flavors going on. We also shared a few appetizers, the Tuna Tartar and the Spicy Crab Dip. Bother excellent. The Tuna was gone in an instant, we all scarfed it down quickly. I would recommend either of them for sure! I also had a cup of their White Turkey Chili, wow! So good! I wish I lived closer so I could eat this every day. Great little place with some good beers. Their patio looks nice too, it was way too freakin' cold to sit out there when we visited but the summer I bet is awesome out there! Cheers!

Great brewery! This place has great food- pub food with a solid taco menu. Awesome. My husband and I both got tacos. Can't beat a hard taco wrapped in a soft taco with the inner connecting layer beer cheese. Gimmesumadat! We also got the truffle fries for an appetizer. Awesome portion for $4. It took two flights to taste all the stouts/porters/IPAs. Yeah, they had a ton on tap with beers to spare. Can't wait to hit up this place again!!

The service is always amazing. The food is so delicious. There are so many different types of beer you are bound to find one you love. And the Apple Crumb cake is to die for!! It is one of my absolute favorite places.

A great combination of good micro beer and good food. They make approx 12-15 beers (with good variety), and the menu is varied to most any taste. I like the Beach Cruiser wheat beer and the Ruben sandwich. Not low cal but they have good salads as well !!

Had a really great time here. The beers were terrific across the board and there was a very good variety. The food was also excellent - the beer cheese is the best I've had. Great environment and very nice waitstaff. Looking forward to visiting again.

Been here three times and plan on being a repeat customer. I'm no beer connoisseur but I do know what I like and what I don't. I am definitely partial to any beers that are on nitro and all the times I've been here, they've had several different stouts (on nitro) and were all equally delicious. Their food isn't bad and the menu has several options ranging from burgers, to tacos, to full on entrees. The prices are on the higher side but the food is better than some breweries I've been to. Pizzas aren't bad, burgers are good, and the calamari is decent. I'd recommending passing on the brownie as I didn't find it very special and a little dry. Service has been helpful and friendly. Also, if you don't have reservations, be prepared to wait as this place always seems packed. Only complaint I have is that their beer names are ridiculously long and while it's unique and cool, I won't remember it.

Cool place! Service and food was excellent. We had the Prime Rib sandwich and the Apple Bacon Brie sandwich with truffle fries. Both were delish and we'd order the same again. Beers were good - order a couple flights and try them all!!!

Want so much to like them more than I do. Their truffle fries are delicious, the El Diablo is my favorite local brew, and I had a perfect pasta dish here on Mother's Day, with asparagus and pork belly...which is no longer on the menu. That said, last night we waited a half-hour for a table with our two kids as table after table without children were seated before us. After debating (loudly, in full view of the hostess stand) about leaving and going to Centre Street Taphouse, a hostess finally cleared a table that had been sitting empty for 10 minutes and sat us. Our server was perfectly lovely, kind and attentive. We ordered the calamari and rock shrimp, which was $10 and consisted of about a half a cup of underseasoned, mostly not-very-good breading--we found one tiny shrimp and three pieces of calamari and the rest was fried breading. My 9-year-old devoured his chicken kebab kids meal in one swallow--again, not a very generous portion, although he had plenty of fries. My 5-year-old had ordered a kids meal burger which the server misheard as mac and cheese. She quickly reordered the kids meal and left the mac and cheese at the table for her to nibble on--very mature-tasting mac and cheese which she wanted no part of. Her burger, or two slider-style mini burgers, made it out to the table quickly. My husband and I both ordered burgers as well--the blue-cheese-bacon-haystack onion things, both medium rare. They were cooked to order, the thick-cut bacon was a nice complement, but really, not at all well seasoned or flavorful. The bun was the standout, and that was a real shame. My husband also had the cheddar-ale soup which was very good. An app, two kids meals, two burgers, a beer and a coffee ran us $70 with tip for food that wasn't overall much better than we'd get at a chain. Excellent service from the waitstaff, but pick up your game when it comes to value for your money and flavor.

We have eaten here a few times. The food has always been good, service friendly and the beer is tasty. Our wait times have been decent every time were go here and the staff is friendly and helpful. I would suggest the pizza for sure as it is delicious. They have a decent selection of beers and everyone should be able to find something to suite their tastes. It can be a little busy at times but I would suggest it for sure. Families would probably also like it if they go early enough.

The beer was okay. We stood around the bar long enough that we were able to grab 2 seats when people left. Other wise the waiting list was really long. They acoustics in there are AWFUL! The food was alright. This was my first experience and they had only been open a couple weeks. The manager was kind and asked our opinion. We will try it again in the future and hopefully some bugs have been worked out.

Wow. Wow! In town for just a few days and tried this out on recommendation of the hotel receptionist. Do not miss this place! Food and beer fantastic, service was quick, friendly and fun. Great selection of beers, and food is way above par for your typical brew pub. Ambiance a touch industrial but adds to the simple focus of the place. Highly recommended!

Starting with the ambience. It's a big roomy place yet the booth seating is arranged so that the customers are literally back-to-back and feels crowded. It's a noisy place to be sure. Waitstaff seemed friendly but our waiter was not very efficient and a bit surly. Not even close to helpful when I asked about the beer choices. Still, not what I would consider 'bad' service. Now the food. I ordered Otto's Fried Chicken. The waiter said they were out of chicken. This was at 4:00pm on a Wednesday. Thus I settled for a $10 Chicken Wing appetizer and my wife two salmon patties @$10 and a side of truffle fries. The fries were pretty good but didn't compare to the basil & olive oil Smashfries from Smashburger which is now out of business. Wings were okay...nothing special and not a lot of flavor. Smokey Bones puts them to shame but of course Lansing MI is the closest location. My wife said the Salmon patties were mushy and she left half on her plate. The patties she buys at Earth Fare and panfries on the stovetop are 10 times better. I ordered a 16oz draft beer and being unfamiliar with their brewpub it was one that had a 'funny' odor. I forced down half of it and left the rest. The iced tea was average. The check was $32 for two appetizers, fries, Ice tea, and a beer. Not really excessive but you can do better - a lot better at nearby restaurants. We had to eat at Latitude at least once and we did...once. And that was enough for us. Latitude 42 is just average and a bit pricey. There are many better alternatives locally.

I have never had a bad meal here. Stopped in today and tried the Bavaria pretzel and cheese appetizer and it was delicious. Had the wheat beach beer and really enjoyed it. I had the Portage Prime Rib sandwich and it was so good. The horseradish mayo and the au jus were perfect together. Wish I had one now. As always, it was nice and clean and the staff was great. We sat outside and could smell the smoker which just added to the awesomeness. I have tried their turkey bacon brie sandwich, sweet potato fries, truffle fries, crap cakes, chicken tacos, coconut shrimp, the blue chip burger and my daughter had a customized vegan pizza. I would recommend any of these.

Although the food is good, I cannot come here without being asked to wait, even when tables are empty. I've also found that they often (almost always) are out of some of their featured beers.

Beyond the very original selection of homemade beers, including some unusual combinations such as spicy chipotle, the food is great. Not far from the typical American brewery restaurant menu but with higher standard ingredients and variants. Combined with a relaxed ambiance and super friendly staff, it is one of the best restaurant I have visited in the area so far. A must try for beer lovers.

Fantastic place. More beer choices than one liver can keep up with. Knowledgeable staff. Manager Brad will treat you like a lifelong friend the first time you meet him. Mug Club is a good deal.

After coming here in September of 2013 and not being overly impressed, I stopped back a few weeks ago for a going away party. As this place has been getting decent reviews, I figured maybe something has changed. I went in with an open mind ready to give Lat42 another chance. Food....I can't for the life of me figure out why everyone loves the pizza so much. It wasn't necessarily bad, but it wasn't good either. I'd rate it a step above frozen pizza. Not much flavor at all. Just because you throw the moniker "wood fired" on a lot of people seem to think that it MUST be good. The other appetizers I had were okay but overall nothing to write home about. Sad to think that the food was the BEST part of my visit! The beer....While I like a good craft beer, I would not classify myself into the "beer snob" category. I also enjoy a good mass produced beer or two. What I look for in a microbrewery is something they do well. Any other craft brewery in Kalamazoo, I have a "go to" beer. Something that keeps me coming back again and again. Sadly, Lat42 doesn't have that. For the second time I couldn't even tell you the name of what I had. It was an Octoberfest brew that was very forgettable. I give them credit though for seemingly finding their niche. Very much caters to the craft beer novice who comes in and immediately asks the bartender "what do you have that tastes like Bud Light?" Sorry Lat42, for me now that's two strikes and your out. Not with so many other great craft breweries in town.

  • Terry D.

With the craft boom in Western MI, they have some tough competition. But this place isn't that great. The beer is fair - it seems to have a off flavor or a little watery and the food is average - small portions with high prices. It's definitely got the hipster feels to it. But wasn't worth the extra effort to get to it.

Come for the beer, stay for the appetizers. I had a Latitude 42 Powerline Porter at a different restaurant so I was eager to come here an order a flight of ftheir other beers. There were about 12+ beers on tap. Not all of the beer on their web site was available the night I came. Besides the Powerline Porter (my favorite) I'd also recommend including Barley Wine in your sample selection. I'm glad I had this unusual drink. It really added to the novelty of the night. My favorite food selection was the soft pretzel appetizer. A warm soft pretzel cut into pieces making easy to share with a bowl of melted dipping cheese. Fantastic. My entree was jambalaya which was good but a bit of a let down since it wasn't traditional jambalaya but rather a modification with less cajun seasoning and the addition of brown beans giving it a kind of tex-mex jambalaya taste. I would suggest passing on the German Chocolate cake.

Just came to try the beers which were pretty good. Tried a few appetizers, good also. As a family with a 19 month old though, the jackpot came when they had an area for kids to play with, seriously, can we stay? Will definitely keep coming again. Decor is nice also, nice concept.

I have been going here consistently for the last 2 years and I have never been disappointed. It's usually busy, even on week day nights so plan accordingly or grab a spot at the bar. The place is decorated nicely, with plenty of TVs available. The food is above average, the fried chicken, Mac n Cheese and burgers are outstanding. Pizza is just ok, but I'm from Chicagoland so I don't come to Michigan for the pizza. Service is always top notch, every time we are there the manager checks in with us which is something is extra impressive. For the beer, I would say that there are a few that stand out specifically the melon head, I.P.Eh and honey Amber for me. I do appreciate how there's always something new to try when I'm there. The overall combination of great service, quality food and good beer makes this one of my favorite places.

Latitude 42 was a random stop on our way from one brewery to the next. Being a new brewery, I didn't expect much, but the place was REALLY NICE. It's got a good vibe and seems like a decent place to hang out and grab a bite to eat in Portage. We were hoping to get a flight here to check out all of their beers but, alas, they apparently tried flights in the opening days and it was just too crazy so they don't offer them at the moment. We settled for some samples and a 10 oz. beer each instead (they also come in pints, but we had a long day of drinking behind AND ahead of us...). I ended up getting the I.P.EH. (bonus for the name!) and it was a nice drinkable IPA. Not too hoppy for the average drinker but still hoppy enough to make my taste bud scorched mouth happy. The other IPAs that I tried were decent too. I don't know that anything here would blow your mind, at least from the small amount that I tried, but it certainly was good. Give them some time and this place may surprise you. It's worth a stop if you're in the area so get your butt over there and check it out.

This place is great! The cider is very refreshing. The oatmeal stout is awesome- my husband gets it every time we go there. Their gluten free pizza crust is great too. Good GF pizza crust is hard to find so I'm glad we found theirs! The patio is great for summer nights with friends.

Beer all tastes the same. Not Midwest style brewing. Hard to even tell the difference between like a stout and a porter. the food is good though. Friendly staff! I gave it two stars because if you are opening as a brewery make sure you have good beer

Stopped here for lunch today. We aren't beer drinkers, but we enjoy good pub food, and we were definitely impressed. We did have a small wait (but really, it was a Saturday around lunch), but were seated in a nice booth and given reverse-osmosis filtered water in some unique glasses. If you've ever ordered tap water at a restaurant (especially in Portage/Kalamazoo), you know how gross it usually is, but their water is good. Weird, right? But good water leads to good other things--the Pepsi is fantastic because of it, and I assume their beer and teas are the same. The four of us each ordered something different--beer cheese soup, reuben, prime rib sandwich, classic cheeseburger, and a blue chip burger. Everything was phenomenal. The regular fries are great, as are the truffle fries (though I'm not sure if they're worth the extra $2). Our friend said that his reuben was amazing, husband and mother in law loved their burgers, and my prime rib sandwich was so, so good. Normally I find those types of sandwiches dry and/or salty, but this was moist and delicious--the smoked gouda is a great choice (and make sure to put the creamy horseradish sauce on it!). I've heard that the service isn't great, but we got fantastic service from the employees we encountered.

We have had this place on a radar since it opened, the wife and I are Micro Brew fans. We went there on a Saturday Night very busy. We were told it could be an hour to and hour and a half wait, OK. We managed to get to the bar and low and behold seats at the bar. Because they were busy the service was really marginal but I did mind having to waive my hands and speak up. Side note it got better when the crowd dwindled, but still not outstanding. OK for the food and the beer! Some beers that were on the web site were not available, my suggestion is an on tap page. I try three of the porters beer and decided that the Powerline was what I felt was the best for me. I saw nothing outstanding about the beer and was disappointed that a beer that I really wanted to try was not available. I order the Reuben with salad $10 for the sandwich and $2 for the salad. The sandwich was good and so was the salad, but for $2 extra was not worth the price. The wife ordered and Olive Burger again $10 for a hamburg? Since Olive Burgers is something that she order quite often she would be a good judge. She said the burger was OK but the Olive part was lacking. Overall a new facility and nice place. I might try it again sometime in the future to see if they get better but I would NOT make a special trip there.

After watching the build from the ground up, I could not wait to try Latitude 42. In a rapidly expanding craft brew scene, I assumed Latitutde knew they would have to present a wow factor on every angle, and not just a place to serve beer. This was their public opening day, and we got there about 2:30pm(post lunch rush, pre dinner rush) and the parking lot was full. While we expected a 10-20 minute wait, we(my wife and I) were greeted and seated immediately. Prior to this day, I had already tried the Powerline Porter, Red Beard Ale and Lil Sunshine, favorites in that order for me. Light beer drinkers would probably prefer those in the opposite order. With 12 beers on tap, I was super excited to try them all, but living so close I knew I didn't have to try them all at once. I started with the IP'eh', seemed like a nice tribute to our UP dialect. Nice hoppy flavor, if you like Bells Two Hearted or Founders Centennial, this is for you. I got out of my comfort zone on the next beer and tried 'El Diablo', a chipotle pepper infused beer. Not spicy, but you can definitely taste the peppers, almost as if it was directly out of my garden and into the beer. Very good switch from my usual taste. The menu was not typical bar/pub food, which was very refreshing. Starters included items like a sausage/cheese platter, duck tenders, calamari, tuna tartar, tacos, or even mac & cheese. Entrees start at 5pm(can't wait to go back for these, great variety, jambalaya to fried chicken, everything in between) We had the Olive Burger and Prime Rib sandwich. Great presentation, the olive burger even had a '42' char branded on the bun. Both sandwiches were delicious. My wife is expecting our second child, so dessert was her 'beer' for the meal, and the chocolate stout cake was phenomenal. They even have an area for kids to play, parents, how awesome is that?!!! Prices were very fair and reasonable, the food and bev was spot on, definitely didn't feel like this was there first public run at it. The owners/staff showed their concern for customer service by stopping by each table to make sure everybody was satisfied. And they did it with great enthusiasm. Our waitress was prompt, efficient and did everything with a smile. Very happy to have Latitude 42 in the neighborhood, and can't wait to go back to try more.

First off, I would like to say that it's not often that I review a place. Though, stand out experiences deserve some attention. I have been fortunate enough to visit this place twice now. On both occasions I experienced top notch service, dedicated, exuberant, and attentive management, top notch fare, and phenomenal craft beer. This place will go far! Food - My first visit was met with Tuna Tartar for a small plate and the Ribeye entrée. The Tuna Tartar was fantastic. The presentation was very aesthetically pleasing and the flavors popped. This small plate comes with a flat bread that is made fresh daily from the breweries spent grains and is covered in melted asiago, placed around a generous mixture of chunk sashimi grade Ahi Tuna, diced tomato, avocado, and what appeared to be and tasted like pineapple. The flavors, coupled with the asiago flatbread, explode! My entree, the Ribeye, was just as phenomenal. Presentation, again, was top notch with a generous portion of horseradish mashed potatoes, steamed green beans, and covered with a gorgeous ribeye. I first took a bite of the horseradish mashed potatoes. I had neglected to read the horseradish part on the menu and upon putting the spoon into my mouth, I was blown away. I had never had mashed potatoes with horseradish but it is a great replacement for garlic. I actually think even better. The green beans were fresh and the ribeye was done exactly to my liking and how it was ordered. My second visit I again had the Tuna Tartar to start with. It was that good! This was followed by The Latitude 42 Burger. All of Latitude's burgers are the famed Pat Lafrieda burgers. I had never had one but now know why they are so good! This burger was topped with french brie, a Marsala mushroom ragu, lettuce, tomato, and red onion. All the buns for their burgers are made in-house, fresh daily, were very tasty, and had a branded "42º" on the top of the burger which was a really cool touch! The attention to detail is fantastic with this place! I never specifically got a dessert either time I was there but all their desserts are made in-house. Though, both times I did try my wife's dessert. The firs time was a smoked pineapple cheesecake, WOW, and the second was a chocolate stout cake, PHENOMENAL which is made with their Milk Of Amnesia milk stout. Service - Not much to say here aside from exceptional. Both times our servers were very knowledgable, attentive, and available. Drinks remained filled as did our needs. Management was very available as well and continually made their way around the restaurant checking with guests and always with a smile and good attitude. Our meals were very timely as well. Decor - The inside of Latitude 42 is just as gorgeous as the outside. The entire u-shaped bar is topped with what appears to be a very sparkly dark granite. The handcrafted wood through out the restaurant is a gorgeous touch and just adds to the wow effect one gets when stepping through the door. The entire north wall is filled with glass windows that look into the gorgeous stainless steel brewery beyond. One look and all you want to do is dive into one of their great craft beers. Beer - Last, but most importantly, not least is their craft beer. There were 12 on tap. Between their growler sales and both my experiences, I have tried all 12. I honestly can not list a favorite. I can only list favorites. One of their flagships, Red Beard's India Red ale is one of them. This ale is a gorgeous cross between an IPA and a Red Ale. There is a wonderful malt presence up front followed by a very pleasant but not overpowering hop presence. Both are equally balanced causing this wonderful brew to go down extremely easy, and quick! Spank Dog Pale Ale is another favorite. This is a slightly more hopped unfiltered pale ale. It as well goes down very easy and is very refreshing. After the first drink it indeed almost makes you want to spank your dog, maybe even smack your grandma, and say, "WOW, that's GOOD!" Powerline Porter is another. This is a robust porter with definite notes of coffee and slight chocolate. Roasted malt comes through nicely and the balance of malt and hops are again done well. Another is Beach Cruiser. This is their American wheat beer and dare I say it runs some circles around another extremely popular, local American wheat that will go unnamed. Lastly, and I use lastly loosely because they are all good, is Mike's Camaro. This is a steam beer. I had never had a steam beer until now and it's great! This brew has an amber ale feel with a nice malt and hop balance rounded out by an intriguing fruity sweetness. Latitude 42 is superbly top notch! When the opportunity arises, I implore you to check them out. You'll not be disppointed and you'll leave full in belly, spirit, and unable to wait for your next visit. Heck, become a regular!

Customer Service often can make or break a restaurant. Couple great customer service with good food and you have a winner; add good beer and it's a home-run. Being in Portage, MI my guess is only the locals and passers-by will get to experience this place but whatever circumstances get you here; I highly recommend it. The food was excellent; I recommend the jambalaya. I'm not much of a beer aficionado but the ones in my party were very complimentary of the beer and selections. What sealed the deal for me and earned the 5th star was when we asked the owner about a dessert that no longer appeared on the menu. He explained the menu recently changed and though that item was no longer available he would see what he could do. We let him know the graduate we were celebrating came for that dessert. The owner came back from the kitchen and let us know the chef would make a similar dessert from scratch. Not only did the chef do so but he personally delivered it and explained it's preparation. Great customer service, great food, great beer and very reasonable prices (party of nine and our check was less than $200).

I was less then impressed with the food at this establishment. The draft beer is great but if you are going to charge 20-30 for a meal please tell me you have cooks who know how to prepare the food. Ahi Tuna was cooked like a medium steak. Pizza is very sub par along with the Calamari tasting like paper. Please do yourself a favor and do not eat here.

I'd been looking forward to going to Latitude 42 since they opened. Been talking it up to my family. So we went. It was a busy Saturday night. We walked in, and it took a few minutes for the staff at the counter to even look up and greet us. That's not a good sign already, when the hostess won't even make eye contact with you. Service was incredibly slow, food was good but not great, menu was not very large. We started with the Coconut Shrimp. Had I know ahead of time how tiny it would be, we would have gotten one for each of us. The BBQ Chicken Pizza was actually pretty good, wasn't dripping in Bbq sauce like a lot of those kinds of pizzas can be, and the pork belly bacon that was on it was delicious. I can't speak too much to the beer, as I only had the oatmeal stout (what? no flights? boo!), and it was just okay. ambience was, again, okay. it's just a big open room with a concrete floor and high ceilings. Even the booths do not offer much privacy. The atmosphere just wasn't very friendly, it did not feel very welcoming. If this place is going to survive, their management may want to promote a friendlier demeanor to the staff.

Not a fan. I'm so happy I waited so long to go here, at least there was no wait. I ordered crab cakes and they were very bready and weird tasting. The truffle fries were so so. The Caesar salad was ok. No rush to go back again. Very noisy too!!

This is a really fun new restaurant in Kzoo. This restaurant is pub food with a twist. We got the crab cheese dip, a burger, and the taco appetizer. The tacos were incredible. The burger came out under done, but they fixed it incredibly quickly and cheerfully. The atmosphere is fun and the service was very personal and friendly. We would definitely return!

Great brewery. Lots of beer, good food and a children's play area. I do t know what else I could ask for. I did go at 1200 on a Sunday, so time of day may play into it. However I look forward to another drive from Grand Rapids for a sot at this fine establishment.

Had my husband's 30th birthday here and it was just so-so. Made a reservation for the private room with over 30 guests and we were only given ONE server. I had 3 drinks in the 4 hours I was there because the poor girl was so overwhelmed and I don't blame her in the least. Also, for the price we paid for food, there was hardly enough. I dont know how a veggie plate, a fruit plate, and beer cheese equals $100 especially in the portions they were given.

It's really exciting to have a new place in town. First of all the beer is really great and the best part of this place. It's their own beers. You're not getting any other kinds of beer. They have growlers! Another bonus, a big bar and plenty of parking. I hate tv's but they have tons if you like that. And they have a small stage. The sound is terrible and the place is loud and then add tv's visually. It's a lot. I love music and that is totally lost. You can't hear the music at all. We did not try the food so I have no comment. But we weren't offered food menu's? We ordered a tasting menu which is 6 beers. Our bartender never talked about the beer or offered any suggestions. She gave us a list and said she would be back in a bit. We were never once given any information about the bar or the beers. Service was sketchy overall. Lots of people behind the bar who never look up to even say hello. And if you like lots of lighting.... This is a bonus! I'm not rushing back..

With so many tentative breweries set to open in the Kalamazoo/Portage area in next few months (Tibbs, Ruberts, Gonzo, Arcadia), Latitude seems to be the most organized and well funded. They're dreaming big and appear to have goals well beyond their own location. For this reason, I was eager to check it out and see how the first of the new crop of breweries would fair. We stopped by at 8:30pm on a Wednesday and were meeting old friends to catch up. Immediately the first thing you notice is how LOUD the space is. It wasn't overly crowded, full but not busting from the seems, and we have to yell just to talk with the hostess. Our party of four was hoping for a spot where we could chat over a brew but we got saddled with a corner booth which made conversation very difficult. Communicating with our waitress and other servers required shouting into ears. Besides the noise, there was little else to the ambiance. A couple of mural sized paintings weren't enough to cover up concrete floors and ceilings and bare walls that made up the bulk of the look-and-feel of the dining and bar areas. The only thing left was gobs of distracting TVs. Don't get me wrong; I love a good sports bar. But I was more focused on the beer, food and service. It would also be less of an issue if there was a more clear distinction between the bar area and "dining" area. It's really all just mixed together. This isn't unique but as we were there during the "cutoff" period between dinner and after hours, you can tell there might be issues down the road of people looking to eat versus those looking drink and/or watch sports. I also imagine the space getting very crowded if they are successful and able to draw patrons from Portage, Kalamazoo and the surrounding areas. It appears the brewhouse is making up the bulk of the footprint of the building. We had already eaten so we were mostly sticking to drinks and small plates. Service was slow as we each only had 2 drinks over the course of the 90 minutes we were there. No one was aiming to get drunk but if he had hoped to sample more of the homemade beers rapid fire, it would have been difficult. We did put in for one small plate that came out quickly enough but we were in no hurry for it to arrive. Perhaps my biggest gripe is that the beer is not being showcased nearly enough. In my opinion, this is a brewery first and restaurant second but that might be because that's more of my focus. They tote having 14 unique taps of beer but if you go up to the bar, it's impossible to tell one from the other. The food menu mentions their three primary "flagships" but makes no mention of the rotating taps. The only way to "research" is to peruse the placards on the table. If you're at the bar, that's means reaching over the shoulder of the person next to you. The easiest and most obvious way to remedy this would be a large board listing all beers, their style, alcohol content and price. Nearly all microbreweries do this, at least the successful and most trusted ones do. I should be overwhelmed by the choices, not confused and lost. A more clever solution might be to leverage one of the TVs showing Shark Week with an either static or updating digital menu describing all the brews available. I'm here to enjoy craft beer, sell me on what you have. The quality of beer was average. I had their El Diablo (pepper ale) which had a professional finish and the spice wasn't over-the-top (that's a good thing). I followed that with a Beach Cruiser (American wheat) which really had no hopes over being better than a B- given the limited style. The one small plate I tried was the truffle fries which were good but nothing I hadn't had before. I'm fully expecting to visit L42 again. I love craft beer and I want all that Kalalamzoo/Portage has to offer to succeed so there are numerous choices. This first experience wasn't enough to sour me on the idea and they still have plenty of beers I want to try so I can get a full spectrum of what their team is capable of. I'm just worried that longer stays will result in me waking up the following morning not hungover but hoarse from trying to keep a conversation with friends.

Yet another new brewery to the area. Beer itself was very drinkable but lacked everlasting impressions. Atmosphere was very nice despite the inability to knock down any noise. Food was good, upscale bar food. Service was ok, increased wait for parties over 4 people ;( Overall a good addition to the area should continue to improve over time.

Took my wife and in laws here for dinner. The food and drink menu was very limited, and we could barely hear each other talking because of the noise. I had the fried chicken dinner which was ok but the portions for the price was way too expensive. $15 for a small glass of wine and two pieces of chicken with a few undercooked green beans, very disappointing. In my opinion this is a yuppy hangout trying to be a sports bar. Nothing special here.

I really, really want to love this place. The location is a perfect midpoint between work and home for me and I can see the happy hour potential. However, my first visit was a little disappointing. My husband had stopped in for the grand opening and was pretty excited about the place, so we went in together with our 2 kids on a Saturday for lunch. The service was great, and they hooked us up with a prime corner booth - much larger than we needed but perfect to accommodate a sleeping two year old. There's a broad beer selection and no one should have a problem finding something that they like. Only problem though is they've stopped doing samplers (apparently it was backing up the bartenders and slowing down service), so it's tough to select from a completely unknown beer list. I was impressed by the variety on the menu, including small plates, sandwiches, pizzas, entrees, and an above average kids menu. We opted to try a couple of apps - the truffle fries, tuna tartare, and steak tacos. The tacos were fantastic, with a great smoky char on the tortillas and the meat cooked to a perfect temperature. But... Things went downhill from there. The fries were clearly of the frozen bagged variety, and a bit of melted cheese and garlic aioli weren't enough to hide that. The tuna was just wrong, literally. The menu suggested it was served with avocado and cilantro, ours came without either of those, but with a bunch of pineapple instead. My husband hates pineapple. When we asked our waitress about it she was quick to return it to the kitchen, but unfortunately the way they "fixed" it was to throw some chopped avocado on top if the bowl and send it back out (with pineapple still included.) The chunks of tuna were much too large and overall it was just not good - bland and weird. I'll definitely be back for the beer, and to give them a second chance on the food once they gain a little experience.

Service was fine. Beer was tasty. Food was terrible and overpriced. Tuna tartare small plate was slimey and tasted like it had been sitting prepped for a while. They use processed turkey loaf in their turkey chili. They ask you how you want your burger cooked, but they might as well skip this part because both of ours were over charred and well done. Over all a big disappointment. The food would be adequate if the prices were about half what they are. Too bad.

ok, I like Latitude 42 there are a ton of different beers to choose from and the atmosphere is really cool, I'm a little afraid to say this but my experience with the staff were not friendly, it took a long time to order drinks (wasn't that busy) either. There was no greeting the customers, from what I saw and the staff seemed a little unhappy being there....... Overall, I like this bar and would go back again for a second time around...maybe they were just having a bad day?

I was so excited to try out this new place to see what everyone has been talking about. I was underwhelmed to say the least. They beer was just Ok and the chicken tacos were boring and expensive. It was so loud that instead of ordering a full meal, my husband and I decided to go eat somewhere we could actually have a conversation. This is after waiting 2 hours for a table.

Great new place, good food & drink. Fast service. Noisy but should quiet down in a few weeks.

Overall the meal, beer and service was excellent. It his was our first visit. I had the "smoked" corned beef reuben that was extremely tasty. I have never had smoked corned beef before. Our server told us they have their own smoker . My wife had their Grilled avocado chicken club which she thought was very good and would order again. The menu has many non-typical brew pub items. Also the two different beers I tried were very good

My friends and neighbors went there as soon as they opened and were extremely busy. Their reaction was good enough to give it a try sooner than I normally do for a new establishment. I took my son for lunch on a Monday about 2:00. They were about 20-30% capacity. We seated quick and drink orders taken after a few questions about the various offerings. Staff was knowledgeable. I suggest you get samplers. I took a few swallows of the IPeh and ordered the lite. The ruben was tasty but sparse the prime rib sandwich was good. The house fries were reheated and were awful. The Hideaway and Chop House have much better values for both though. I saw a fair number of other diners pushing plates aside or sending dishes back. I will give them another try in a couple of months.

Taking a good friend out on a date. Thought she would like to try the brews (I am anxious for the other breweries around town to open also). Called to make reservations and was told I had to give two days notice (I was giving one day notice) and no reservations for less than six. That's fine, but as a single man in Kalamazoo who goes out to dinner often - I don't usually eat with other couples. I don't think I'll try this anytime soon, off to Bravo's.
