Nice Place, Good Staff, Quality Food. Went here for the 1st time the other day and sat at the bar. The place seemed clean and well run. The bartenders and waitstaff were all very friendly and attentive. The food came out quickly, was tasty, seemed very authentic, and was very reasonably priced. I'll definitely go back next time I'm out that way.

I'll start by saying it was late (9:00pm) on a Monday so I'll cut them a little slack (they don't close until 10:00pm though). They had already done a lot of pre-closing, although there were still about 6-7 people in the restaurant, and a party of 6 joined while I was eating. The Salsa was from the fridge and cold, but the chips has been in the warms, so not too bad. I order the $3.95 bowl of queso and chili, which was HUGE, but the meat had not been drained... the HUGE puddle of grease sitting on top was a bit unappetizing. Of course, it was served about about 10,000 degrees = NUKED. I also tried the Stuffed Jalepeno's. I prefer them with cream cheese like these, and they were breaded... but obviously cooked much earlier. Warm cream cheese interior, cold gooey outside breading=precooked, frozen, microwaved. My Entree arrived iterally 45 seconds after appetizers. It was literally the time it took myserver to return to the kitchen and pick it up... I had not even taken a bit of the queso and chili yet! The chicken fajitas... the chicken was okay. A little dry, but nothing unexpected. I was excited there was jalepenos in the fajita vegetables (red and green peppers, tomatoes, and onions) but it was an accident... but I still enjoyed it :) The refried beans were a weird color... canned? By no means is this a great Tex-Mex restaurant. For the food, it was a little pricey. The Margaritas are served in schooners. However, they make their living off customers from the surrounding hotels, when no one else is open. If you want some very average mexican food, and are willing to kill a little tequila... this place isn't the worst option you can find. Although I'm stiting at a 2.5, this place rounds to a 3. Will try them again when they are busier, to see if everything normalizes!

We've been coming here once a week for at least a year. There's a variety of vegetarian options as well as authentic Mexican fare. My favorite is the vegetarian combo #8: Vegetable burrito, spinach enchilada, and rice. Also love the tilapia tacos, tilapia fajitas, carne asada tacos and burrito Guadalajara (according to husband). You can request hot hot sauce with your complimentary chips (some review griped about the mild salsa). They're under new ownership who is sourcing from different food suppliers. Some things are better, some are worse. The new chips are so disappointing. The new enchilada/red sauce is fantastic- it's spicier. We'll probably keep coming even though some kid at the counter promised (lied) they were going back to the old chip.

This is tough. Good for hotel locations. Good price on margarita special, but too bad they were very sweet and not strong at all. Good food, bit tough chicken in the pollo fundido. Horrible, inattentive service. I'm going with 2 stars on this one. Better service would make me almost forget about the other stuff.

Mi Zarape is the best use of an Applebees ever! The husband and I ventured to Mi Zarape on one of our latest Taco Tuesday adventures. After eating tacos every Tuesday this year, I am proud to say Mi Zarape is our reigning champ. The salsa was full of flavor, the $6 margarita was larger than my burrito, and the server was entertaining. After receiving our bill, Mi Zarape was also the cheapest Tuesday I've had in a while. What a great restaurant! Ole!

I'm happy that Mi Zarape is relatively close to me! I wish they gave you mild and spicy salsa, because the only kind they give you is REALLY mild. Good, but too mild for me. I ordered a combo plate with 1 taco, 2 enchiladas, and rice. They have among the best enchiladas and best Mexican rice I've ever had, but I was disappointed that when I got home and opened the bag, I found that they didn't give me the taco. They're relatively close, but not close enough to warrant me driving back for 1 taco. Fabulous standard Mexican food, but make sure you double-check your bags before you leave to make sure they gave you everything!

Me gusta! Couldn't be more conveniently located for weary and hungry travelers in the Pontiac/Bloomfield Hills area. Good menu selection with good salsa, which is how I judge Mexican restaurants from the start. Surprisingly good chimis and chorizo con huevos that really hit the spot for a cold night dinner.

Food was not tasty, service was grumpy (and they botched our order). Nobody in our party of 4 enjoyed their lunch.

Solid food better service. Close to home. Never had a bad experience. But I've never had my socks blown off either. Good prices and fast for pick up.

I have been coming here for quite some time only for location. Service is great and so are prices. I must say food is average. I hate giving bad reviews but my review is strictly on service and prices for this one.

Please understand that I love Mexican food and I'm usually not that picky about it. I even like those Mexican restaurants in Royal Oak that tend to get bad reviews. (I wonder if Royal Oak just doesn't like Mexican food.). Pretty much anywhere I can get a cheese enchilada, I'm happy. So, I was amazed at how horrible bad this place is. I never knew Mexican food could be that bad. Watery salsa and some sort of weird, runny cheese. I tried it a second time in case it was an off day, but no. Still, no. My first choice for Mexican is Mexican Village in Utica. It's a branch of their Mexicantown restaurant and so good. I just wish there could be a good Mexican restaurant closer to me.

Sorry. I don't get it. I see all those positive Yelp reviews. But this place was at or certainly very near the bottom of the barrel. There is not much to say about this place that is positive. The chips were not home made. They were out of the bag and not a particularly good bag at that. And this was the best part of the meal. The salsa was really without any body, texture or taste. The jarred stuff at the Kroger is better. I ordered a # 1 lunch which includes a chili relejno, a taco, some "salad" and some refritos. The chili relejno was stringy and breaded soggy. Yuck. And I usually love these. The taco was one step below a cheap taco stand. The beans were greasy and tasteless. and the salad was just some shredded brown lettuce. Not going back.

Pretty good food, good drink prices, open pretty late, friendly servers etc.. I have had the Nacho's and the Carnitas. Not too shabby. This place isn't necessarily authentic or anything like that but it's a friendly place to drop in for a late dinner or for some drinks. This is an Sombrero friendly establishment, so feel free to let your freak flag fly.

I went back because some friends wanted to go, and had a better experience. This time I had the enchiladas rojas, and they were tasty. Spice: yes, it was there, and the beef was flavorful. Maybe they have good nights and bad nights (as we all do).

I've returned to Mi Zarape a few times since and find myself liking it more and more. Service was slow only that one time, thankfully. The carnitas tacos are still my favorite so far. The other day I tried the chicken fajitas, which were decent. The sizzling plate contained tender chicken, green peppers, onions, and tomatoes. On the side were guacamole salad, a slice of tomato, sour cream, rice, and beans. I am always tempted to get dessert but never have room. The dessert menu has all the usual suspects - flan, sopapillas, fried ice cream, xango (fried cheesecake). Drink specials: Tuesday and Thursday 4-9 pm 16 oz margaritas $3.50, 27 oz margaritas $5.00 16 oz Texas margaritas $5.00, 27 oz Texas margaritas $6.50 imported beer $2.50, domestic $2.00 Draft special Monday through Wednesday 2-6 pm 16 oz draft $1.50, 30 oz draft $2.50 (Miller Lite, Bud Light, Coors Light, Dos Equis) Oh! And there's a coupon on their website. Wish I had seen that earlier!

I don't know what other people had that was so good, but this place was downright gross. I got some cheese nachos that looked like they came straight out of a bag with some canned liquid cheese poured on top. Everyone else that I ate with had no words of praise either. The place itself is quite dumpy, but I guess it is a cheap restaurant so maybe that part fits the price.

I only had one 2 star review in my first 100 but I was generous (especially with some of the Mexican places I reviewed) and I think I'm getting pickier. I'm putting in more 2 star reviews because I expect more for what I'm paying. I had two visits far apart (a year apart) at Mi Zarape. The place was empty on both occasions but it took so long to get our food. I had the veggie fajitas on my first visit and it was not really filing at all. The vegetables had no flavor to them either. The salsa was decent so luckily I could add that to the fajitas and there was free guac with the fajitas. The guac wasn't really flavorful either. The server was friendly but didn't really give me an answer that made sense when I asked if the beans and rice were cooked in chicken stock or lard so I skipped them (my friend had them and said they were ok, a little salty). My second visit I kept it simple and just had a guacamole salad and some of the chips and salsa. This was actually better but that's mostly from a cost perspective ($11 for the fajitas versus $3 for the salad) because the guacamole salad really didn't have much flavor either. I really wish they had more that was clearly labeled as vegetarian or their staff would help me with substitutions. I love Mexican food and wish this place did much more. I'd be back in no time if it did.

Awesome food! I'm not sure how "authentic" the food is but its very tasty and filling. I have ordered carry out a few times. The food is always ready by the time I get there within 5 minutes. The lunch specials are priced fairly and are enough to fill me up. Lunch carryout orders include a bag of tortilla chips and salsa....makes for a great mid day snack. I strongly recommend this place!

Best Mexican in the Bloomfield Hills area! Don't miss Thursday's half off margarita night. These are not the bad tequila too much sour mix margaritas that you usually get!! The fajitas for two are awesome a mixture of shrimp, chicken, steak, and pork-a little something for everyone. Great food, super reasonable prices!! dinner and cocktails for a family of four under $40 (and the food is good!) this is a must visit.

Well, my definition of good Mexican food is really hard to find on the side of the country. I have had a few really bad experiences. Fortunately for me this was decent! It's nice to have a few options when the mood for Mexican food strikes. We started with drinks. Dustin had one of the margarita specials, and I had a virgin strawberry daiquiri. Dustin liked his margarita, and it was enormous! My daiquiri being non-alcoholic was a lot like a sweet fruit smoothie. I thought it was great! For dinner I got a combo plate, since I wanted to be able to try everything! The chicken taco was really good. The flavor of the chicken was spot on. I also had the cheese enchilada. Now a cheese enchilada is my litmus test for all Mexican restaurants. You can tell a lot by such a simple dish. The cheese and red sauce need to be just right to make a perfect enchilada. This cheese enchilada was just ok. The cheese was good, but the red sauce was a little too sweet and had a little too much cinnamon in it. I was excited to see sopapillas on the menu, as I used to eat these all the time as a kid. Now I did not realize that there were two schools of sopapillas, soft and chewy or crispy. I grew up on the crispy, and therefore better version. This restaurant has the not as great but still delicious soft and chewy sopapillas. As the quest for good Mexican food continues, it's always exciting to find a reliable option that's not a far commute.

I have been to Mi Zarape several times and have yet to walk away anything but stuffed and happy. The service is good. The chips and salsa hit the table as soon as you sit down and are tasty. The food comes out within minutes of being ordered. I have tried many different items on the menu and all were delicious. I would recommend doing some of their combos to try a variety of items. I'll go back when ever I have a craving for Mexican!

Man, I hope this place survives. If it doesn't, it wasn't because of the food. They have a wide variety of all the standard Americanized Mexican fare, and do it up pretty tasty. Drink specials are common and menu prices are reasonable. If you're not sure where to start, pick the burrito zarape with your choice of meat and plan on being full. The ingredients taste fresh and boast nice flavors, and the best part is that there is a nice light guacamole salad along side instead of the usual "rice and refried beans" which can get pretty boring. The reason I'm concerned they might not survive...they are tucked away on Centerpoint Parkway, fairly well hidden and in a general area where employers have done a mass exodus. However, they've been there going on almost 2 years as of this writing so there is hope yet.

I knew it was a bad idea to go to a Mexican restaurant in Michigan but the group chose this. Very bland salsa and I couldn't finish my meal. Service was good but doors out matter?

Very reasonable and yummy! I love to get out of the office for lunch and now there's a yummy Mexican restaurant only seconds away, hooray! I have eaten at Mi Zarape twice now, both times for lunch. During prime lunch time (around noon) they had a few tables full, but majority of tables open. The decor is kinda silly, the walls are full Mexican goods like wooden parrots and pots. The waitstaff is friendly and attentive. The menu is extensive and they have awesome "meals" that allow you to have a variety of different items in one dish. I always have trouble deciding between multiple things, so I love that I can order up a combination plate. So far I have tried the Burrito Loco (burrito stuffed with tons of veggies) and vegetarian meal #2 - a cheese enchilada, chalupa and beans. The Burrito Loco was yummy, but didn't fill me up completely. I would order again, but with a side. The vegetarian meal was the perfect amount of food and I will prob stick to the veggie meal options for my next lunch too. I look forward to going back.

Went here once for lunch from work, then took the family there after a couple of hours walking around Great Lakes Crossings. We were there on Tuesday evening, with my 3 kids 12 thru 3. Wife had fajitas, I had combination, kids had tacos, and burritos, everything was so good. Margaritas (Texas)were half price and very good. Service was so great and with a smile. All 5 of us ate for a great price. Use your gps and find this place no signs anywhere.

It wasn't too special, yet the food is fresh. I had the shrimp quesadilla and was happy with my order. Chip was stale though. Service was attentive too. Overall it was okay.

I left before I was even seated. I was disgusted. My 2 friends and I walked in during prime dinner hours hoping to get some authentic Mexican food. When we entered the whole staff was seated at the bar drinking while no one was there to greet us and take us to our seats. The place was basically empty. After standing there waiting to be noticed for a good 2 minutes we left. Bad experience and we didn't even get food.

Gave this place another try. Still good not great. All sauces are from a can or a jar. Meat in my enchiladas was bland and dry. Only margarita offered is with Cuervo. Just not impressed. Not disgusted just not wowed.

I found this place on Yelp on a business trip and decided to try it. This place has the best service and the Enchiladas Verdes totally rocks.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
