Decent Mexican restaurant for the area. Atmosphere is pretty common for most Mexican places I've been to. Nothing astounding or poor quality here.

I had high hopes while being back in Michigan on vacation - I've been living in Texas for 4 years so I know what legitimate Mexican is like. First off - I went in understanding I'm not down in the Rio Grande Valley. Home of the best Mexican food this side of the border. Putting that aside I asked the wait staff if they had Charro beans - any real Mexican place will carry Charro Beans...on to the next thing I asked if they carried Menudo -- no. Again, not surprised. The wait staff was pretty hilarious, and provided great service. Moving on. The selection was amazing -- many items you wouldn't normally find in a Mexican themed Restaurant in Michigan. I am excited again, but remembering we don't have "Wet Burritos" in Texas (because it's a Northern / Mid West thing) . I ordered a "Burrito Grande" - I was impressed with the size, it was a very good size portion. The food was delicious. All in all - considering the location and the majority of the population around here being white -- I give it 4 stars for the portions and the selections. While it's not what I would consider authentic food from Mexico, it is a win for Otsego. Edit: The prices were really reasonable -- a table of 6 only came up to $40. At our Favorite location in Austin we easily spend $40 for two of us.

Poor food. Wrong order of food. Margaritas broader line. Will never go back. Salsa better from the store. Waiter not in English.

Casa Real is very good standard American Mexican. I've been here several times and the service is always incredibly prompt. And yes, the food does come out amazingly fast, so fast that you know it's pre prepared - while that's not my favorite part I think it's very common, especially for Mexican food. The complimentary homemade salsa is yummy and they usually have a very reasonably priced lunch special that includes beans and rice. Today I had the Chicken Burrito Real which was delicious. I've only been for lunch, but it's a great choice for a quick, delicious and reasonably priced meal.

I've been there a few times now and there has only been one time when there was an issue with the food. The staff made it right and also gave us a discount so it worked out ok. The food is good. The chips and salsa that they bring to the table when arrive are awesome. Great salsa. The service is good. The staff is always friendly. Tonight our meal was at our table in about 5 mins! We always have left overs, so portions are good. We like it!

Have been coming here since they opened. The Mexican pizza is the best :-) large shrimp, steak and chicken all mixed on a large flour tortilla smothered with cheese and sauteed onions and peppers then topped with second tortilla to create best pizza ever!!!! :-) Can have drinks now as well

Friendly Staff and great service. Food was fresh. I had trouble ordering food because of my diet restrictions and when I got my plate all I could think was I'm going to need a box to take this entire plate of food home. The prices are average prices and the food tasted good

Nice place to eat if you want a step up from Taco Bell. Not the greatest but not the worst. You get what you pay for here.

I have worked in restaurants half of my life and that being said, I am usually very understanding. This experience held no reason for my being understanding. The food arrived 2 minutes after we ordered it. This is not good and you know this if you have ever worked in the food industry. The food was very under-seasoned. My taco salad was not the right order either, but I ate it and survived. They closed at 10 pm. We walked out, tipping generously for no reason, and they basically told us to eff off as we left at 10:02. I will not be back and I was soooooo excited for this place. We live right down the street, told our server this was our first time here and we were extra excited, and then left feeling kicked out with a gross taste (literally) in our mouths.

Don't call an order into this place. They forgot a lot of our food and would not reimburse our money. Food was mediocre and the customer service was poor.

Amazing, authentic restaurant. Grat service. Can't wait for them to get their liquor license. They need a bigger parking lot.

This new place came with high hopes and ratings! In fact we drove over an hour to try it! We have been hunting for an authentic Mexican restaurant since we were spoiled after living for ten years in TN and experiencing the best American Mexican food! We've had 4 trips to Mexico to compare it too! This place was Disappointing. The "entrees" were actually quite good. I had "The Grande Wet Burrito" w/ gr. beef and my husband had the chicken taco/combo dinner. What was really disappointing was the "purchased' chips and "tomato sauce" based salsa served as a beginning dish. Tasteless. I ordered a side of "pico de gallo" and a side of re-fried beans. The tomatoes in the pico didn't taste like tomatoes and the cilantro had no taste. It was a side of "bland". Meanwhile the re-fried beans had a strange taste, perhaps of "bacon" grease? I'm not sure, maybe they were sour?..but it didn't taste like normal re-fried beans. As I said, our entrees were quite good and they were also very large...we both took boxes home. My recommendation would be to order entrees and forget the price adding Ala-carts or sides. The service is quite good, er fast...means it is pre cooked. The restaurant is very clean, at least in the dining and restroom areas. The music is way too loud and I saw people refusing to set under the very loud speakers. Ask for a place to sit that isn't directly under a ceiling speaker. They do serve Alcohol if you are interested in that and Coke products.

This place is awesome! Looking through the past reviews is what actually inspired me to post my own - I live in Otsego and there just are not a lot of nice choices for sit down restaurants. My wife and I recently moved from Kzoo and LOVE some good Mexican food! This place is FAST, hot and very tasty! The chips n' salsa are pretty good and every entree I've had has always been very good. Sometimes it can get crowded but don't let the parking lot fool you, there's more than enough seating inside.

Their parking lot is always packed, so Four of us went to eat here, and 3 of us left half our food on the plate, refusing to eat anymore because it was so horrible. All our plates had lukewarm food, 1 of us sent our order back because it not being right, and I didnt get my chalupa, unless they think a tostada is a chalupa. And it was so poorly spiced, that Taco Bell will seem like a real mexican food experience. I wont be back. If you folks think this is good food, I feel sorry for you. Not worth the money or time

Generic menu and food. I have been to 5 or 6 restaurants in Michigan with this same exact menu. This isn't "real" Mexican food. It is Americanized. That being said, it is far better than Taco Bell or La Señiorita.

I had avoided this place because my son had been there soon after they opened and said the food was crap. He gave it another try recently, and liked it. Apparently, they have hired a new chef and he came to our table on this visit and was eager to please. The food came out amazingly fast, and tasted fresh. We were in for a late lunch on a Saturday, so the place wasn't packed, but it wasn't empty, either. I would compare the food, prices and service with the Maya restaurant on South Westnedge. Since Casa Real is so much closer to home, I will probably be back. I would encourage people who didn't like it a while back to give them another try.

PROS: Quick service, unlimited chips and salsa are free, guacamole is made with real avocados, didn't have to wait for a table, prices are low, food is filling, quantities are large. CONS: Bland, most food appears to be from a pre-mix, far cry from authentic Mexican. We will not be back. Rather, we will be happy to join Anne W. and Jason W. (previous reviewers) on their next trip to Taco Bell.

This is a good choice for good tex-mex food for a good price, with generous portions, served by friendly staff and made amazingly quickly. I am giving it five stars due to it's great value.

Went here for the first time this last Saturday. I'm a fan! The service was fast and friendly. We got our food less than 10 minutes after ordering. Let me tell you, the food was fantastic! My daughter needed to go to a Mexican restaurant for a Spanish class assignment. I'm glad we chose this place. I can't wait to go back!

We have passed by here several times on our way to Grand Haven from Richland and decided to give it a try today. We were there about 4:30 on a Saturday and it was fairly quiet. It was a beautiful day so we took advantage of their outside seating. Immediately after we sat down we had a plate of chips and salsa in front of us. Our server (wish I got his name) was very attentive. The food arrived quickly, was generous in proportion, and delicious! I am from Michigan, so I can't vouch for the authenticity, but we ordered a variety of dishes (family of 4) and all were good. We drove by a little later (about 6:30) and the parking lot was packed. Hopefully the service is as good when they are busy. We will try again!

My S/O and I eat here all the time. The customer service is good the food is even better. I order a meal a certain way and I have never had to send my food back to the kitchen, they get it right the first time. I recommend the Molcajete. And as always my food was steaming hot and flavorful. We love Casa Real.

Certainly not "authentic" but continues to please, Fast service, whether you eat in or take out. Portions still big, staff pleasant, prices reasonable. A dinner order feeds me for at least 2 meals.

We arrived on a Sunday, late afternoon. They were not busy. We were seated at a booth across from a long table celebrating a family birthday. There were 3 children ranging in ages of apx. 4-8. When entering the restaurant the first thing I heard were children screeching and running around the entire dining room. The manager ignored the situation and never addressed the issue. She sat mostly at the front desk reading. Our waitress was much less than attentive. The food came out separately, and COLD, and tasteless. I will not be back and would NEVER recommend.

The service is alright. You're always seated quickly and given homemade chips & salsa once your seated. Once you order it's usually 10 mins to get your food. I'm pretty sure everything is cooked in the morning and assembled and heated to order. My favorite two dishes are the Fajita Quesadilla and the Burrito Real. It's pretty inexpensive to eat there, especially for lunch!

Flavorless ground beef, dull tasteless salsa, brown guacamole, non-existent customer service. I am from Southern California, I lived 15 minutes from Mexico, I know what Mexican food is supposed to taste like, this wasn't it by a long shot. I would rather go to Taco Bell than this place.

Good Mexican food at good prices. The staff are friendly and the food comes out quickly. We have been there several times and only once had sub par food: our fajitas tasted as if they were left over and rewarmed so they had a kind of refrigerator taste to them. Oh, sometimes the guacamole is dark in color but some lime juice will help prevent that. Otsego seriously needs greater variety in eateries, among other things. It's bad enough this town is virtually dead so far as ANYthing to do or decent places to eat. Casa Real is a welcomed addition to the community. Maybe next, we can get a bookstore, or something other than Meijer and Wal-Mart. EDIT: My wife and I stopped in for what we thought would be another good meal. I ordered ground beer enchiladas and they came with pieces of chicken in them. The waiter said. "Oh, the other ones will be just beef." I asked him how he could be sure because I had not cut into them yet. He said "Well, the meat all sits next to each other and when they make them sometimes the meats get mixed." I told him I didn't want them and he took the plate away. My wife and I went to speak to the woman at the counter, who had always been pleasant to us in the past, and told her about the issue. She said the same thing as the waiter had told us. I said that was cross contamination; what if someone is allergic to chicken or see seafood? She said well they get really busy and sometimes the other meats can get dropped into an order. I told her I had worked in several restaraunts in the past, one of which was a Mexican restaraunt, and we always made certain we weren't cross contaminating food so no one ended up with an allergic reaction. She rolled her eyes at me and sighed sarcastically "I'll tell them in the kitchen." We won't be going back there.

Everything arrived within one or two minutes of ordering. I like quick service, but it was so fast that everything had to be prepared ahead. Not fresh at all and the food tastes like it. My wife had a cheese enchilada and didn't finish it...the cheese was very odd tasting. I had very bland tamales. We won't waste our money here again.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
